I had a hard time choosing between these because I am so proud of them both. The past few months I have been honing in on my alignment both in my body and with myself. I observed my thoughts over a period of time and I noticed to either stuck in the past or rush into the future. Do you know thoughts like 'if I had done this in the past I now have made better progress' for instance. Or "I hope to be x in x years'. Very little I appreciated the present moment, the now. . Warrior pose represents this issue. Your back leg and arm point into the past. Your front arm points into the future. Your center stays in the present. While practicing Virabhadrasana II we can train to mindfully appreciate past, present and future as it was, is or will be. We can analyze our past to understand our present being. . We can analyze and understand our present being to be able to develop trust. Trust and letting go of the past is necessary in order to enjoy our lives and live the present moment. The Future is a present of the universe to us, we develop our future now. That's why the present is called present :) We get what we deserve and if we now act mindfully we'll have a future we always dreamed of. Do you have similar thoughts? We’ve put together 16 yoga poses to expand and release — two major cosmic themes under any given full moon. With today's full moon (April 11) rising in Libra, it’s also a time to bring alignment to your heart and mind to gain greater consciousness of the fine balance of self and others with all relationships in our lives. To put ourselves in a state of transformation through compassion, peace, and love. Yoga helps to release tension stored in the subtle, energetic body, so that you can open yourself up to receive all the celestial gifts the full moon has to offer. You can perform these poses as a sequence, or on their own as part of your own practice. Just be sure to warm up your spine each day with Cat/Cow postures and Sun Salutations before you begin — many of these poses are big heart openers and lengthening backbends to help you create space. Day 1 of #CrazySexyYoga with the #yogabums is Standing Backbend Pose | Anuvittasana and here are instructions: Begin in Mountain Pose (Tadasana), rooting the tailbone down and pressing through the soles of your feet. Release your shoulders as you reach palms to sacrum, fingertips pointing downward. Draw your elbows together and use your hands to press your hips forward, bending through the thoracic spine. Allow your head to gently drop back, lengthening through your Throat Chakra as you breathe deeply. Continue pressing the hips forward as you bend back, only going as far as what feels good. Hold for 3 deep breaths and press into your sacrum to come back to Tadasana. Fold forward to relieve any compression in the lumbar spine. Repeat again, this time if it feels good, raise your arms overhead one arm at a time. Feel free to take it deeper walking your way down a wall or in my case a palm tree! #WeAreAnusara - Day 4 - #FourthPrinciple #ContractingSpiral #OuterSpiral ... Activating Outer/Contracting Spiral in the legs results in several characteristic shifts in the body, including a decrease in lordosis in the lower back, the tailbone scooping down away from the sacrum and forward toward the pubis, and a contraction of the lower abdominals. Too much Outer Spiral will overpower the actions of Inner/Expanding Spiral and potentially prevent the femur heads from setting back into the center of the hip sockets and close off the back and floor of the pelvis. This could result in rounding and/or tightness in the low back and/or bind the hip flexors. The muscles that contribute to Outer Spiral are big and strong. The actions of Outer Spiral must be applied in a way that balances but does not overpower Inner Spiral. ... Outer Spiral must be applied carefully, but it can also be a very powerful force within the body and within a pose. In #ardhachandrasana, I focus on Outer Spiral in my standing leg. I tack my hip and outer thigh back toward my lifted foot and squeeze the glute underneath the top hip. This creates an outer rotation in the thigh, pulls the bottom hip under the top hip, stabilizes the hips, and helps to lift the top hip. Then I can stretch long in every direction! ... I saw several others choose half moon pose or a variation of it for Outer/Contracting Spiral. For me, it is a key element to making the pose full. ... Do you twist daily? Twisting might be one of my favorite things in the world. I love wobbling and moving my spine in all directions. I feel blessed to be able to do so I definitely twist every day and I encourage my students to as well. On a tangentially related note. One of my kids asked me about breath work the other day. She asked why we don't always take deep breaths. I was surprised by the question ( I usually am. Kids have great questions) I explained that there are lots of reasons people take to shallow breathing. I also encouraged her to take more time to practice her breathing and that she could take deep breaths whenever she wanted.
