MUSIC TASTES AND GUILTY PLEASURE SONGS bros + undateables

Lucifer

Jazz, classical music, if he has to choose a modern artist then aurora or Videoclub, he vibes with French music a lot of the time. He also likes Piano and violin covers of more popular songs but cannot stand the originals. Satan and belphie are aware of this and take full advantage, much to his chagrin.

Guilty pleasure: mamamoo, hwasa specifically radiates Lucifer energy and I can 100 percent see him vibing with it. Levi swears he once saw him at a concert but would never say so, he gets a death glare from Lucifer every time he brings up mamamoo in conversation so he knows he saw correct but also he *doesn't want to die*.

Mammon

90s hip hop jams, queen, classic rock, overall has pretty good taste in music, adores abba

Guilty pleasure: he cries at the shrek soundtrack and he doesn't know why. Just straight up starts bawling to all star. Also romantic songs get him crying. He just can't. He has a playlist named 'MC' that's full of romantic songs he wants to dance with them to, but any time any of the songs plays he starts crying.

Levi

K-pop and jpop, he stans Loona. Listens to a mix of male, female and mixed groups and artists. surprisingly enough he goes to the most concerts out of all of the brothers, even beating Asmo out (since he tends to go clubbing instead). It's the only time he voluntarilly goes into such an enviroment. When he goes to a concert he doesn't mess about, VIP tickets and gets the best merch. He loves anime themes, also see him liking anything 'niche' so is a bit of a hipster and a massive music snob. Likes things like horrible histories songs and asap science elements song where he can study without studying if ya get me. Deffo can name every Pokémon. Pfft you like the original poke rap? Catch this boi listening to BDG's better pokerap and reciting every word, also rocks out to Richie Branson.

Guilty pleasure: Ariana Grande but hates that he likes it cos it's 'normie music'

Satan

Studio Ghibli soundtracks, heavy metal, baby queen, MCR, AKMU, Triple H, Gang of Youths, Paramore, good taste but very varied so his playlists are always jumping between genres.

Guilty pleasure: the front bottoms, esp. the song 'father' for obvious reasons, also likes Videoclub but knows that Lucifer also likes it so adamantly denies he likes it. Catch him alone in the library jamming out to 'En nuit' tho I dare ya

Asmo

Techno and clubbing music, as well as anything on a girls night playlist, you kno he knows all the words and has definitely sung every song while crying at 3am on a karaoke machine, also the Orion experience and anything normally played at a pride parade or rave

Guilty pleasure: babymetal. He knows it's not the vibe he gives off but he finds them adorable, deffo attends every concert but will deny it. Levi saw him at one once and it was the Spiderman meme. He swore him to secrecy.

Beel

Happy upbeat music he can work out to, modern pop works but really anything with a rhythm. Likes African drums because of this, can play the djembe drum. Probably attends a Zumba class and makes all the fellow demons drool, from his abs and the fact hes eating a 30 course meal while he does it

Guilty pleasure: Shakira? I'm gonna say Shakira. Beels hips don't lie but catch him dancing and he'll get embarrased.

Belphie

Green Day and anything anti-authority, MCR, bmth, he is vibing to emo bops and you know it.

Guilty pleasure: country esp. dolly parton cos he's a cow boi.

Diavolo

He loves country music and because of this he plays it on repeat in the castle and Lucifer cannot stand it. If only belphie knew his guilty pleasure songs would drive Lucifer insane, he would play them full blast every day just to piss him off. Yeah maybe it's good he doesn't know.

Guilty pleasure: Explicit rap music. He know it's not good for his royal image to swear but man, he loves it so much. Got a sweet spot for Nicki Minaj but only Barbs knows about it.

Barbatos

I can really see him liking Bollywood dance and music for some reason? I feel like his favourite instrument is the sitar. He definitely watches Bollywood dramas in his offtime and gets very invested. Will do the same with Kdramas, Jdramas, Mdramas, a secret drama hoe. Only a dramatic bish would !!!SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 20!!! ((get the bros watch MC die only to turn around and be like 'well actually' he loves drama he's just *subtle* about it))!!!SPOILERS END!!!

Guilty pleasure: Nicky Minaj, who do you think introduced Dia to her huh? Also weak to kidzbop but don't you dare call him out on it. It's one of the reasons he and Luke get along so well. They vibe to kidzbop while they bake.

Simeon

Hymns I don't know what to tell ya, but also MUSICALS, Boi is a massive musical nerd and knows all the words. Luke once make the mistake of bringing up Hamilton and had to sit through him singing the entire soundtrack. It was good, don't get me wrong, but he was trying to do his human history class hw..

Guilty pleasure: lil naz x and Beyonce, but he blushed bright red the WHOLE TIME and prays for forgiveness after. Has definitely danced drunk to single ladies tho. Probably with mammon or Asmo.

Solomon

SALSA MUSIC this man can DANCE and dance he shall. Bachata all the way. But also shamelessly loves Nickelback. I'm sorry. I know. I can see him liking fall out boy, and purposely playing songs that reference angels and demons to get a rise out of them. He is the one that showed Simeon Lil Naz X.

Guilty pleasure: the spice girls. When Asmo found out they both had a mini concert in his room.

Luke

Kidzbop and hymns, but mostly kidzbop. He also likes studio Ghibli music, he listens to it while cooking, but he hates that satan likes it because *demon prejudice*.

Guilty pleasure: Avril Lavigne, more specifically girlfriend and skaterboi. Also likes Ariana Grande and Cardi B but has only heard their kidzbop versions and not the originals.

What do you mean when you say ‘tame birds’? Are some of your peahens not tame?

Correct!

Artemis (and to a degree Stan) is an imprinted peahen, which means that when she was very little she was raised by me in a way that she doesn't necessarily know that she is a peahen, or perhaps it's that she doesn't necessarily know that I'm NOT a peafowl. She allows me to handle her because I've done so since she was little and she's comfortable with it.

Whereas Eris allows me to interact closely with her because she is tame. Her previous owners did not imprint her, but they did interact often, which acclimated her to human interaction. The same goes for Aurora and Aris, both of whom I interacted with regularly when they were young, to the point where they don't really care if I come close to them. Arcana I did not have, nor did her breeder interact closely, but she has learned that I'm not a threat to her by watching the others. I have literally had to step over her like a cat that won't move out of the way of where you're walking.

Corona, on the other hand, I did work with SOME as a baby, to the point where she will not freak out if I am in the pen or walking around her and she will allow herself to be herded some, but if I were to try to pick her up she would get very stressed and struggle excessively. She's domesticated but not tame.

Then there's Major, Minor, and (especially) Eclipse. Major and Minor will eventually come up and can be convinced to eat a few treats from my hands, but they prefer to get them off the ground. Eclipse... she won't come anywhere near me for any reason. I ONLY get to touch her if I am catching her for NPIP testing or if she's on a nest I am checking. She's the wildest of my birds, the least tame of them, and I have to be careful when I am dealing with her because if she ever got out there's a good chance I would never see her again. I don't know how her previous owners raised her, but it was not well.

My arguments are that is a mediocre artist that got stan more than she deserves, she doesn’t show a minimum of appreciation to the fandom that gives her support and keeps whining to us and actually her content got stereotypical and lame with the passing time, drawing Paul as the usual girly fairy and John as buff and big as a mountain, I thought you had more taste than that

jfc are you hearing yourself? who decides what makes a good artist? I see her doing correct anatomy, good colouring skills, her linework is real good, honestly nothing to complain about there. she's more careful with her lines and colours than fionafu????? who deserves more stan? YOU???

also from what I've seen (from having followed her for years), she has a hard time mentally. why are you getting irritated by that? her blog is her safe space. she has all the rights to say whatever she wants over there, and it's your responsibility, anon, to choose whether you want to see her posts or not. not hers

as for the body size thing, nope. haven't seen anything of that sort, where'd you get that idea? even in her abo comic Paul was depicted as fairly equal sized with John, and that's bloody ABO! that's better than can be said for most of the abo art.

all of this seems to be your subjective beef with things that have nothing to do with her actual talents. by purely technical standpoint she's very skilled indeed.

also, my "taste"? as in, that I should do what you do, try to belittle and bully the creators whose work I don't fancy? you realise you're saying that to the one person who literally created the JP library and the MclennonBB to get more creators into the fandom, not caring about their skill level or what they do - and is currently working on making us all a community to bring more conversation about, and to give more visibility to our creators. my thing is and has been for years to support and advocate for our creators, nvm the stuff they do. do I personally like the recent necrophilia fics? no. do I need to read them? NO. do I need to bash the author for writing them? NO, NO.

Personal thoughts on Open Heart Second Year, Chapter 20

Note: As the title says, these are just personal opinions on Choices books and chapters. Of course, you may agree or disagree with them, I only use this platform to express my thoughts on what I read every week and what I’d like to see in the next chapters, because none of my friends play Choices so I have no one to comment the books with.

That’s a wrap! I can’t believe Book 2 is over. And just like everyone, I didn’t know how I felt about the final chapter of the book… until I started writing this… and I had a realization just as our MC did (of course, this led me to write this post from scratch like three times!). You know… it wasn’t brilliant, but it wasn’t a bad ending… I’d say it was pretty correct… and maybe even better than we think it was. Let me show you why:

At the very beginning, I had this kind of bittersweet feeling, just like everyone else. But then I replayed the chapter a few times to try different options and routes, and I started noticing that the writers made some amazing job paying attention to many of the little details we got to see throughout the book and finding a way to put them all into the final chapter. Everything was a lesson, everything made sense and everything almost everything got a closure… and that’s just some awesome writing, guys. Trust me, I had a long list of complaints, but by now, my only complaint is that the chapter was way too short.

Let’s begin with the main issue of this chapter: Leland Bloom and the check. I had the same question as the MC for a whole week. Why would the man give a billion dollar check to a second year resident? And with the sneak peek it kind of hit me: Leland not only was trying to buy Edenbrook, he was also trying to buy us… because for him, it’s always about money. I could even see our MC going through the same dilemma that Jackie faced with Panacea. And I have this gut feeling that what we decided to do with the check may have an impact in Book 3.

To be honest, at first I didn’t pay much attention to the scenes with Sienna, Aurora and Elijah. Even though I have to admit I missed Kyra on this set of dialogs, I was glad to see that the writers gave us some time alone with them and I loved how different their answers were. However, I saw them as some kind of filler content… like “oh, we need to add an extra conversation with our friends because it’s the final chapter”.

The same applies to our LIs. At first, I didn’t know if asking our LIs for advice was a good idea unless you’re romancing Ethan (based on the fact that he’s also our mentor and the only person who knows Leland Bloom as much as we do). I would have even added Naveen and Harper to this set of dialogs, as this was more a professional thing than a personal issue and they would have surely given our MC a great piece of advice (especially Naveen!).

But then, it hit me. This wasn’t just a set of random conversations. Instead, the writers made an amazing job mixing the storylines of every one of our friends and LIs with the conversation about the check and Leland Bloom, and that led to different realizations based on who you chose to talk to. That was simply brilliant and it reminded me why I love this series so much… nothing on these books is written at random. Everything has a purpose and sooner or later, it always clicks.

Based on the same premise, can we talk about how our story with Esme seemed to be coming full circle? No matter how your relationship with her ended (at least not yet), we finished our story with her right where we started: healing her wounds. However, there is something that is kind of bothering me. During our conversation, Esme told us that Leland had reached an agreement with Levi’s family, so the lawsuit wasn’t a problem anymore. And here we go again. We know that Leland isn’t the type of person who does things just to help people… and now I can’t help wondering if he may have found a new ally in Esme. Will she keep the secondary role she got in Book 2 or will she become a more important character in Book 3?

Another cycle that was closed during this chapter was Kyra’s. I’m so glad that she was finally declared cancer-free (can we just stop for a moment and give Bryce the credit he deserves for this? PB didn’t do it, so we should!), but it kind of shocked me to see her go and realize we won’t be seeing her in Book 3, especially because she is part of our gang now. Her departure really got me wondering if this is PB’s way to prepare us for the final goodbye in Book 3. I’m also wondering what the writers have planned for Rafael. After all he went through, I’d really like to see him back in Edenbrook… but not as a paramedic. I know he said he wouldn’t go back to hospital life, but after all the physical therapy he got, I think this would actually be a great job for him. He loves to help people (and that’s something he won’t get rid of easily because it’s his nature), he loves exercising and, at the same time, he needs to calm down and take life slowly. I don’t know about you guys, but after all the complaints to have him back, and now that he’s finally fine, I need to have him around!

As per the romance with our LIs, please don’t laugh at me, but I think PB decided to ground us all. For a whole book this fandom has been so focused on “fighting” over LIs, that I can imagine the OH writers saying something like “You know what? Enough! Let’s remind them who is in charge of the narrative here!”… and that’s how they fooled us all.

However, if you’re romancing Bryce, Ethan or Rafael (sorry Jackie stans, maybe it’s because of the path I read, but I don’t feel the same about that relationship), they certainly gave us all those “we’re in a real relationship” vibes at the party… and at the private party as well. By now, I think there are some things that go without saying, and even though we’re probably not getting the content we thought we would have, things look very official to me. Sometimes you just don’t need words, you need actions, and those three guys have shown our MC all their love through them. Every piece of advice, every conversation, every small detail, even in the sex scenes you may see there has been an evolution… and I’m not talking about how kinky things became, but about what’s behind it… you can definitely see two people who trust each other, who feel confident about what they have, and who look like people in love. But of course, they won’t say those three words yet. I’ve always felt like PB is very respectful of the timing (not only in OH, but in their books in general), so I wouldn’t imagine them saying “ILY” right now, especially because after all the ups and downs of the plot, things are just starting to take their final shape for Book 3. But if I go back to the final 30 diamond scenes in Book 1 and compare them to the ones we got in Book 2, Chapter 20, you can safely say the relationships with all three male LIs are at a whole new level now.

Finally, one of the things that worried us the most was the insane amount of subplots this book had. Did they manage to give closure to all of them? Let’s see:

Aurora Emery: For a whole book, Aurora felt like she was “the lesser Emery”. We went back to college with her and we got to know about her struggles to make friends. Finally, she found her own closure in Chapter 17, after having an amazing heart to heart conversation with her aunt. So yes, her subplot did have a closure.

Sienna Trinh: Our sweetheart spent two whole books involved in toxic relationships: first, with her boyfriend, and then, with Mitch, her intern. Even though she only recognized the toxicity of her second relationship, I’m glad that she’s finding peace after losing Danny and I’m hoping for her to have an awesome Book 3 just because she deserves it. But yes, her subplot did have a closure.

Elijah Greene: Our boy was the first character who made it safe to Book 3. He had some issues when trying to keep boundaries with Sothy, his intern, and it seems our choice to help him or not, actually had an impact on the relationship between them both and in Sothy’s performance as an intern. So yes, his subplot definitely did have a closure.

Jackie Varma: Her conflict with Panacea was fully addressed in the Vegas chapter. However, we still don’t know if having her name in the list of doctors who received money will have some long-term effect. Will this be a topic they’ll rekindle in Book 3? I have a gut feeling that this might be one of the subplots that was carried to Book 3. So no, I’d say her subplot didn’t have a closure.

Bryce Lahela: The Lahela siblings subplot was one of my favorites of Book 2. Keiki is an awesome teenager, and seeing Bryce growing so much as a character was a delight and it made me really proud. He sacrificed everything for his sister, to the point he even swallowed his pride and talked to his parents to ask for help. So I’m glad to say that yes, this subplot had its happy ending and found its proper closure.

Rafael Aveiro: Book 2 was a such a self-discovery journey for Rafael. As I said last week, I think he was a mess the whole book, and I don’t think this had to do with the writing, but actually with the fact that, before the incident, he was questioning his life and everything he loved (even his feelings for our MC). The incident not only was a “rebirth” for him, it gave him a whole new perspective on life and it challenged him through his recovery process. Did he find closure? I don’t think so. Only the incident had a closure, his existential problems still have a long way to go.

Ethan Ramsey: Ethan had two face not only one, but two conflicts. The first one was personal: not only his mom returned after abandoning him 25 years ago… he had to deal with the fact that she was an addict. So even though it seems like everything was solved after he left her at the rehab center, I don’t think this is the last time we’ll see Louise, as there are some things that were left like hanging (for example, who was she talking on the phone when we first met her?). So… did this subplot have a closure? Probably yes, but I’m not a 100% sure. Then we had his professional conflict: the money problems were never about the money, but about being loyal to Naveen’s mission. Was this solved? Absolutely yes! It only took him a conversation with Naveen to realize that he could carry his mission wherever he goes.

Esme Ortega: Esme probably got the worst part when it comes to subplots. She actually had two of them and I don’t think any of them was properly solved. The first one was the harassment she suffered when we first met her. The “closure” was treating the guy for a serious illness, talking to him and then leaving the incident behind… or diagnosing him with dementia so he had to quit his job? I mean… really? And then we have Levi’s case. Sure, everything was properly solved after Leland Bloom and Levi’s family reached an understanding and avoided the lawsuit… but we’ll never know if she actually did it, won’t we? Where is the “resident-intern” confidentiality we talked about in Chapter 7? Sorry, but this is a HUGE NO for me.

I know there are some things I might be missing now, but I’m actually saving them for a future post. As per Book 3, my bet is that we’ll be having a new release in February, just to keep in line with the releases of the first two books. Will Book 3 be the last one of the series? Honestly… I don’t know. I know the series is supposed to be about our three-year residency, but now I have some doubts. First of all, medical drama is a topic where you can constantly add new content without necessarily repeating the formula. Also, the fact that was mentioned that Bryce’s residency lasts 4 years instead of three is kind of giving me some hope of a fourth book. Finally, let’s face it: Open Heart and The Royal Romance/The Royal Heir are currently the most successful series for PB. And after seven books, it’s time for the TRR gang to take a break. Maybe it’s time for Open Heart to pick up the slack.

Our MC: Even though I don’t think our MC had a plot that needed to find closure, the book certainly left us some uncertainties about their story. And the most important one is the lack of PTSD after the incident. Well… let me tell you that maybe not everything is lost. I was so curious about it that I actually did some research. And guess what? There is something called “delayed-onset PTSD”. This form of PTSD appears at least six months after a traumatic event, and in some cases, it even takes years to appear. However, this does not mean that an affected person has no PTSD symptoms prior to this six months period. This would match exactly with our MC’s behavior after the incident. So now that our friends issues seem to be mostly solved… maybe it’s time for our MC to face their own problems?

Marrying a Muggle-Born for the Privilged’s Own Benefit

I want to express a difficulty I’ve come across during my time as a Snape Stan sometimes defending him on the subject of how James is supposed to be ‘superior’ concerning Lily.

Let’s take an example.

See, I’m trying to write a fic where Snape is the main character. He gains a superpower that allows him to access everything he wants. Anything. Drunk with this power, he one night parties with his colleagues and dances with Aurora Sinistra, whom I intended to be a beautiful Black woman with whom Snape was friend.

And there came a problem.

I wanted to show that Snape liked Sinistra, whatever her skin colour was: he wasn’t racist, but he’d fight against it if he stumbled upon an unacceptable remark about POCs.

But I didn’t like using Sinistra as a love interest to confer a ‘superior moral value’ to Snape.

She’s not a tool. She, as a Black woman, and a way for me to say Black women must have every human right, had too little importance in the story, and if I went through a relationship between her and Snape, she’d be more likely a pedestal for him than anything else. To be honest, she was portrayed as a friend before, and only when Snape receives his superpower and starts to party does he consider her as a potential date.

But the image of Sinistra accepting Snape as a lover on the first try, in a party where both were more or less drunk, just because it’d ‘prove’ Snape was accepting of POCs… it really stunk. That wasn’t an idea I wanted to convey.

And curiously I find the same thing with the Jily couple, as well as those who try to give moral superiority to James for marrying a Muggle-Born.

Marrying a Muggle-Born isn’t the problem. It’s using that marriage to give the privileged the excuse of moral superiority. As if Lily was just a tool, a trophy for James to show around (like a Snitch). ‘Look! I’m marrying someone who’s inferior to me in blood status! I’m better than you all!’

(Which can too easily devolve into ‘You should be grateful I put myself on your level to marry you.’)

It’s as if Lily was just reduced to a tool to polish James’ image even more. It’s not about her: it’s again about the privileged.

I find it disturbing because it’s like trying to get POC friends and dates to use them for your own benefit, as excuses to say ‘Hey, you can’t call be racist, I’m better than you because as a privileged person I’m close to POCs, and see how even more superior that makes me? I have great politically correct image that I can show around for my own benefit thanks to this marriage!’

Do you get what I mean?

And so, to get back on the struggle I had with Sinistra, I spent a long time on my message, especially as I prefer queer Snape (usually gay, but I’ll try asexual and trans later). Finally I came to a decision: Snape and Sinistra would start kissing in the Astronomy Tower, but after a while, Sinistra reconsiders and she refuses him. He’s mortified, and wonders ‘Is it bad or not to use my superpower to manipulate events so I can continue, pulling consent from her?’ But then he lets her go.

And I think this message is way better.

I got the part about Snape liking Sinistra to that point, whether she was POC or not.

But I also gave Sinistra the right to refuse.

I think it’s important, when we deal with issues about Black, women, and Black women rights.

I’m not impressed at all when I see James harassing Lily to get her to date him, and then lying about having changed. Consider the discrimination/privilege filter: it’s about a pureblood harassing a Muggle-born to date him, rejecting her refusals. Imagine if a white man harassed a POC woman to force her to date him?

And not only does the story follow with that POC ‘forgiving’ that white man for his bullshit, but their fans start to praise the white man for deigning to marry her.

Instead, I appreciate way more that message that when a Muggle-Born (or any discriminated person) tells someone with privilege to stop… that person actually considers it, and accepts her refusal. Otherwise it’s using your own privilege to force them to date you, partly because you see them as an opportunity to improve your own image.

I seriously need to hear your take on the mess with Aurora. I don't know if they are trying to demonize her or to dumb her down. I don’t even know what the writers expect us to think about this situation. Are we supposed to be mad at Aurora? I agreed I’d do the same and the writing still made it look like Aurora was a snake. They have created a great female rival who had nothing to be redeemed for, so they thought 'we should give her Landry's story.'

TW: discussions on racism in PB’s books

I'm sorry it took me such a long time to answer this, anon, but this question sparked a LOT of thoughts that I wanted to sort out and make sense of before I could present them as a response! Some of these were thoughts that I had for a long time but never really got to talk in detail about, and I'm happy I can expand on those thoughts through this ask. Thank you so much for this question because it's one I've myself had been thinking about often before I deleted the game.

In my mind, the hate towards Aurora had always exceeded her perceived crime. Aurora is viewed with scorn and suspicion pretty much for minding her own fucking business and not liking the MC (ultimate crime right there). Even though the narrative does mark her as innocent in the end, show Landry as the culprit and eventually integrate her into the friend group - it is done in such a way that Aurora is

Not allowed much opportunity for pushback even after being suspected. For instance, Aurora is so aware of the extent of the MC's dislike that she spells it out to them that they were suspecting her. Yet the MC doesn't exactly apologise to her and Aurora is instead expected to be grateful for the small kindness of allowing Aurora room in their flat later on.

Sympathized with only by option rather than default, even when it's obvious we were wrong about her. Even Landry is given better - he has the upper hand in the conversation where we confront him, and we behave civilly to him during the time we have to help Banerji (as opposed to Aurora, who the MC could choose to blame for her very legitimate reasons for keeping a distance. The MC also has the option in the closet scene to tell her to "suck it up" and minimize her negative previous experiences as well). In this way the treatment reminds me most of Kiara because Kiara, too, has to jump through hoops to get the tiniest crumb of sympathy from the MC and Drake, with zero remorse for putting her through that...while women who have behaved worse than her can demand 5-star treatment. So the MC is allowed to only optionally sympathize with her in the closet scene, still allowed to accuse her of being a jerk in the best option, and never really has to apologize for their misconceptions about her. In both cases the MCs are viewed as ultimately right in their treatment of these characters.

Still disrespected, even after the narrative shift that marks her as innocent. Not only does Jackie still make snide remarks on her nepotism - the MC who is aware that Aurora is practically blameless and in fact is under immense pressure from her aunt Harper doesn't bother to correct her. The words "Princess Nepotism" are still used against her as well.

Still subject to what could become a future pattern of behaviour from the MC's side, where they're allowed to shit on her even when it's clear she's innocent or didn't intentionally cause harm. Many many Open Heart stans have pointed out by now how we're given practically no options to fully have her back and show her sympathy that isn't rooted in blame. And this is not a pattern we even see in ALL people who embody the love-hate or even antagonist trope - but I will discuss that later.

Might I add, Landry was allowed to be treated better and he ratted us out. Until the fandom called the team out, the narrative was VERY happy to shoehorn an immediate redemption arc around the same time that the MC's friend was still snarking on Aurora.

I'm not very surprised they went this route with Aurora. Well...maybe a little, because somehow I assumed that her popularity among the fandom would protect her a little more - but I guess when you're a person of colour who has seen story after story after story of characters of colour being repeatedly thrown under the bus, there are certain patterns you learn to expect.

Here's (IMO) the most important one: check out who the narrative rewards you for treating well, as opposed to who will be made to support you either way.

You're allowed to show basic decency to a black or brown woman. But you're expected to show kindness, understanding and empathy to a white woman, and richly rewarded if you do. In some cases you will also face consequences if you don't. (Fandom - take note of the difference, and be sure not to forget it).

The woman of colour can get penalized by the narrative for something as basic as not liking, or not wanting to interact with, the MC. Very often, she is written as an inferior foil to either the MC or to another character (preferably white) and very little effort is made to explore her origins, motivations or backstory. In certain stories we are allowed to speak garbage about her behind her back, we're allowed to say things about her that have no basis in canon. In certain stories (TRR, Open Heart, perhaps Veil of Secrets may apply in this category as well) the narrative encourages us to suspect and blame her, with no consequences to us as such when it's revealed that she was innocent all along. In a lot of cases, she isn't even allowed to call you out on your words or behaviour. It's also interesting to note: a lot of the black female "antagonists'" behaviour (since the trope has been misused often in their case) doesn't even begin to match the way a white woman in the same role is allowed to behave with us.

The white woman's rude behaviour, on the other hand, is often followed up with elaborate backstories, excuses and explanations - often in such a way that their initial crime is forgotten, ignored or retconned and what they do to the MC and/or their friends is almost viewed as secondary. The narrative begins with framing her as an antagonist before using her (sometimes tragic) past to excuse her actions, and you as the MC are expected to be understanding and let her off easily, even when her actions have caused serious damage. In some cases (like Olivia's) she is praised merely for being the "snarky badass" who will make snide remarks and underestimate you/your friend, while you rejoice for even the smallest crumb of acknowledgement for this friendship. In some cases (like Madeleine's or Vanessa's) she does unforgivable things which are then immediately followed by a massive sympathy arc - one that diverts our attention from the previous action...and eventually faces the barest minimum in terms of consequences.

Vanessa Blackwood is an obvious and glaring example of this pattern. She targets our child with the word "guttersnipe" from the moment she meets her. She delivers the papers contesting the MC's custody of the child with a smile, rejoicing over the thought that this child will be ripped away from her impoverished mother. She enables and in some cases even encourages her son August's bullying. She engages in classist, racist and homophobic behaviour. In a bid to make her case in court stronger, she devices the plan to frame the MC for shoplifting at the store she worked in so she would lose her job.

Who faces the (arguably not enough) consequences for this? Tallulah, the brown woman who stole items on Vanessa's say-so, for Guy's benefit (Guy is also her accomplice, which is hardly ever addressed in court). The worst that happens to Vanessa is that she loses her case, but given that she ultimately chooses to do so…is it really that much of a loss after all?

And what does Vanessa get in the end? A nice, cushy little diamond scene where you have to stand patiently, listen to her sob story, and maybe tell Vanessa she was "a little bit racist". This is the story that I had seen some on my dash hail as "the god-tier realistic story that acknowledges racism and sexism". A friend of mine argued once that Tallulah's accusation would probably not work since it would be seen as hearsay, but it's not like PB are powerless puppets in the hands of their own story. They were the ones who created it. They're the ones who encouraged that expectation that they would address sensitive issues like these with sensitivity and respect. They could have found ways to not hide the evidence behind a paywall and to leave solid proof along with that accusation, but in this case Tallulah wasn't even allowed to mention their names.

Constantly, Vanessa was shown in a position of power, and was shown abusing that power then getting away with precious little consequence. Contrast that to Xanthe, who had very little real power in ACOR, could wreck very little real damage in the overall story, yet met a cruel, horrific end that two black people were witness to, and were made (by the narrative. I refuse to believe that Syphax as he was written would NOT be disgusted if he saw/heard about it) to laugh at. I don't recall her ever getting a nice cushy diamond scene aimed at getting us to sympathize with her circumstances (which in fact are pretty tragic if you actually sit down and think about it. She'd be groomed to be a courtesan since she was a literal CHILD!)

And you can see this with so many books that by now I've lost count. A Rowan Thorn can be punished for betraying Kenna (even if, in that playthrough, Kenna is a tyrant who doesn't deserve to rule a can of beans, much less a kingdom) - and it's made easier for her to die even if we've secured her loyalty, whereas Diavolos lives on and can even marry Kenna BECAUSE of said loyalty. A Madeleine will be given a sympathy arc, after which writers will then use her victim to majorly retcon a bullying incident so the writers would never need to address what she'd done, but a Kiara will be hated, treated with scorn and suspected for treason just for being ambitious. An Ellen would only get respect for her hustle towards the tail end of a standalone series about the cutthroat journalistic world, a Scarlett wouldn't even be given a future - even the goddamn bed and breakfast owner gets more importance!! And all of this happens alongside the other characters praising the MC for being an inspiration, or being "different", or being a "trusting kind person". Sometimes even a character from the list I've just named is made to heap those praises on this person.

Within this book itself, Landry the real antagonist is allowed to push a narrative that blames us for not gassing him up to Ethan — even though our very first diamond scene involves him having an opportunity to engage with Ethan but being too nervous to take it and instead passing the task to us. The narrative is written such that it sounds like Landry had a right to be angry with the MC for "not doing enough", and for having the attention from Ethan that he craved. In doing this, the same narrative ignores the positioning of Landry as a mediocre white male armed with privilege that an optional person of colour who is new to the environment, will not have, and ignores that you can't equate the MC not recommending friends to superiors to deliberately sabotaging another person's career. Despite his duplicity, gross entitlement and flimsy excuses, the narrative still jumped on his weaksauce redemption arc faster than you could say 'scalpel'.

Aurora was a character that in some ways could fit Olivia's particular trope very well - the prickly rival who is shocked by your uniqueness and (sometimes) kindness and gradually grows to be your friend. In fact she fit it even better - because she never really knowingly harmed someone or tried to undermine us. This is what a lot of people in the fandom wanted to see as well - an arc that somewhat resembled Olivia's or Becca's (I will always see the fandom as complicit in the way black and brown women in these books are treated, as many in fandom also value said women less. But in this case, Aurora was eventually viewed as an exception and loved). Yet the treatment she is given at this point fits Kiara's more. The character who has potential, has promise, should be respected the way white women in her narrative position already are - yet is never really allowed her own voice against the horrible treatment meted out to her. With such characters, it always makes me severely uncomfortable to see them not address their pain and instead praise the MC, or watch them call them/her a friend. I'm acutely aware of how those MCs (or sometimes, their group as well) do not deserve their loyalty or devotion, or how little they give them in return. I'm aware of how all this will end too: the MC will be "right", again - never have to apologize, again - be treated with a respect they do not deserve, again. In a better book, I'd much rather Aurora or Kiara gave the MC the middle finger and left them for good.

I'm tired. Honestly. Women of colour (men of colour suffer this too, but this is perhaps not the post to address that. It's important to note also that often the men of colour pushed into similar situations are often not even antagonists to begin with, but our own friends and potential partners in the story. Shane Parker of Platinum is a good example of this) in these stories are forever expected to place the comfort of others above their own pain, and I'm done with it.

i don't think i have talked about the graceling realm series and how much i love it on here but here i am.

i loved every book in this series but bitterblue stood out to me because even though it was incredibly long, it kept me gripped throughout. there was an unsolvable mystery (maybe im dense though) that kept me guessing for hundreds of pages and just a glimmer of romance which i usually miss when its not there but this stood on its own without it.

i thought bitterblue was an extremely strong character and it was a great ending to a companion trilogy (before winterkeep was announced and continued it). also, loved seeing all of the characters come together at the end and seeing katsa and po pop in and out.

new release i haven't read yet but want to

the nature of witches by rachel griffin realm breaker by victoria aveyard

something about witches and elemental magic just sounds so awesome to me and i am just so drawn to this book.

and i am currently enjoying the red queen series and love a good found family so im hoping to love realm breaker. ive heard mixed things so im gonna lower my expectations a little but still excited.

idk why i am so excited about these hollow vows but i am and i think it's just gonna be a (hopefully) exciting fantasy romance. im hoping for two sexy men and a bad BITCHHH of a main character.

ive heard only amazing things about six crimson cranes so i am very very excited! i've been waiting for this book i think since january and its almost finally here!

aurora's end (even though the authors are cancelled) i NEED to finish the series then they will officially never receive my money again. the cliffhanger at the end of aurora burning was so incredibly uncool and so now i have no choice but to see what happens in the finale.

the graceling graphic novel. do i need to explain myself?

and the hawthorne legacy is the next installment in the inheritance games series and i really enjoyed the first book! the mystery and the way patterns were worked into it really had me intrigued and i was itching to know what was happening for the entire book. so excited to see what happens in the next one!

ok so. i really did not enjoy throne of glass. after reading the acotar series and then jumping into throne of glass, i hated the love triangle, the intrigue wasnt enough to get me engaged until the last third, etc. sooo i was even considering not reading the rest of the series. but of course like the sjm stan that i am, i had to. and this one was so good. i wrote a review on it so if your interested in more in depth thoughts go take a peak!

the way that she writes political mystery in her world is so good. not a single time did i have a correct guess on what was happening. i also loved how her books had strong woman main characters, but they all had agency in a different way. and how the romance subplots were small but enough to keep the romantic in me satisfied, but also didnt take away from the main heroines story. ugh just so good! love u girly <3

i feel like this series is great for young readers (12-17). it teaches about friendship, sexuality, mental health, asking for help, how to offer help, etc. and tons of really diverse representation throughout. i wish this existed when i was younger.

it made me happy to think about young people reading this series and feeling seen and validated. and about how openly alice oseman illustrates difficult topics and how to deal with them. just made my heart swell.

OPEN HEART : SECOND YEAR CHAPTER 8

SO. MUCH. HAPPENED. I say this every week but I genuinely think this chapter was the most fun to play. I literally had the biggest smile on my face the whole time I was playing it.

Let’s start from the beginning. The first scene reminded me so much of the first book when we spent basically everyday in the bar. I love that it felt like old times and that we got to spend some time with our friends and Elijah as I feel like we really haven’t seen him that much in this book so far. Also Bryce Stans I’m so happy for you! He finally appeared and you got a diamond scene with him and his sister. I didn’t play it but I’m sure it was amazing! I’m so glad that the diamond scenes have become more fair for everyone and I overall just thought this scene was so cute. I like that they talked about his struggles with his sister and that choices didn’t decide to leave that storyline just for the diamond scene after the festival a couple of chapters ago. I love love love that someone who isn’t necessarily a main character has gotten a large storyline.

I thought the little interaction with Aurora at the apartment was really nice and I think that it really showed how much our friendship has developed since the first book. Even though I didn’t buy the Bryce diamond scene I did buy the scene with the boys. And it was so worth the diamonds! The fact that we are slowly getting to know everyone’s backstories is literally amazing as that’s all we wanted from the first book. I’m so not surprised that Bryce was a surfer tbh but I was surprised that Raf was a jock. He striked me more as a quiet type but I guess not. When Elijah said that his coach wouldn’t let him try out for the team because of his chair I literally felt so heartbroken for him. I was seriously ready to kick his coach’s ass but obviously Elijah being the cutest most positive person ever he didn’t care about it. I love his character sooooo much, I honestly hope that we get to have more one to one scenes with him.

One of my favourite moments was when we asked Ethan to be on the team and his first response was ‘NO’. obviously! have you met Ethan Ramsey?! But all MC had to do was look at him and he said yes. It really goes to show that he will do anything for the one he loves. We got so much cute and heartwarming Ethan content today. I literally fall more and more in love with him everyday.

And then the game began. This reminded me so much of the baseball episode in Greys Anatomy. If you’ve watched that show then you will undertstand.I never expected Choices to do something like that in Open Heart but I’m SO glad that they did.

Landry. I can’t believe he had the nerve to even try and speak to us. I was a little bit glad that he decided to though just so we could shout at him again because I love doing that. And obviously Elijah and all our friends stuck up for us and shouted at him aswell. Our friendship group is honestly unbreakable. It’s crazy to think about how different it could have been if he didn’t stab us in the back. Anyway DROP DEAD LANDRY.

I had the BIGGEST smile on my face whilst playing through the game. It was honestly such a good idea. I’m also so glad that Zaid, Baz and Ines were there. We never really get to see Zaid or Ines now that we aren’t interns anymore so it was really nice to see them both. And Baz we all know is one of my favourite people because he’s so adorable so it was also really nice to see him. Zaids lack of enthusiasm and Ines apologising for getting overly aggressive really made me ship them even more. I just want to know if they are together.

I really don’t know what to think about the whole Aurora situation. My MC was quite angry with her and I don’t know if that was the best option. However, I do think it was a bit snakey of her to tell Dr Carrick about our patient because we told her as a friend not a doctor. But then I guess you could argue that she didn’t know that he would take our patient. I really don’t know but it’s going to be interesting seeing how everyone else reacts. I’m seriously not ready to be snaked out by another one of our best friends.

WE WON!!! I mean...duh. Do you really think that I would let Mass Kenmore win. I think not. As soon as I saw the diamond scene to get practise in to increase my chances of winning , I didn’t hesitate. I bought that scene just to see Tobias’ reactionwhen we won. I honestly hate that guy so much. But not as much as Declan Nash and we all know. I really wish we had gotten a picture of the group hug because that was so nice. And then we saw Ethan smiling at us. I don’t know about anyone else but anytime he smiles, I genuinely feel like my heart is melting. No just me. Ok cool. But their relationship is literally so cute. I have said it before but I love that it’s more of an actual relationship now and not just a ‘friends with benefits’ kind of thing. But we are still waiting for that 30 diamond scene. And I thought that today was going to be the day when he said we could go back to his place. But it wasn’t. Unfortunately.

WE FREAKING COOKED TOGETHER. We are actually married. No one can tell me otherwise. Just the thought of MC and Ethan cooking and Ethan teaching us how to cook whilst giving us the occasional smile. Literal heaven.

Choices have done such a good job with Ethans storyline. We were asking for his backstory for soooo long. And I’m so glad they waited because it’s been amazing!I love that MC was there to support him when him and his dad were trying to talk things out. And I’m glad that now MC is around, Ethan knows that he can open up to us and we will understand. I just loved it so much. It felt so genuine. I would add pictures of this moment but I have a 10 picture limit and i NEED to add pictures from the kiss. That’s the most important part.

This kiss was perfect. I just have so much love for this man. We know he’s in love with us and vice versa so why aren’t choices just giving us that 30 diamond scene. It would be much appreciated. Every single week, I’m like ‘this could be the week’. But then it’s not. I know we waited FOREVER to get a 30 diamond scene in the first book so I’m not surprised. And to be honest I am loving the suspense and suspiciousness around their relationship at the moment. But if not a 30 diamond scene what about a wedding, or a holiday together or a date. Just anything really.

I’m so undecided about who’s going to die. I think it may be Kyra but I was also CONVINCED it was Raf because they’ve been giving subtle hints with him throughout the entire book. I really don’t know! I really like Kyra and I hope she’s able to fight the cancer like she did the first time. But honestly I can’t decide if it’s going to be Rafael, Kyra or someone else completely. When she said that line in the picture below, I felt like crying. This death is going to be heartbreaking.

Sorry if I missed anything I tried to cover as much as I could but there was a lot in this chapter. I also found it abit weird that Dr Hirata wasn’t at the baseball game. Correct me if I’m wrong but it seemed to me that all the doctors we have interacted with were there except her. Maybe she was and I missed it. But anyway I also want to say I thought Bruce’s outfit for the game was so funny. I wouldn’t except anything less from him.

Open Heart 2 is really smashing it.

Ateez in Seoul, 8 and 9 February 2020

Olympic Hall at Olympic Park

No one will believe this but I actually had my holiday with @flywithturtles planned before I knew the dates coincided with Ateez's Seoul concert dates. But it's true! I have the WhatsApp conversations to prove it!! Anyway I secured the tickets and all was well.

This is the first concert I've been to where they were handing out masks, making sure everyone had hand sanitizer and checking temperatures as you entered. Haha. Well they also checked our temperature going into the Line Friends store that day so, that's corona virus life. I was actually really worried the concerts would be cancelled, given so many other events have been, so it was a relief that it went ahead.

Structurally this is the same as the show I saw in August last year, after Wave/Illusion: starting hard with pirates, a lighter middle section, and a mythology-heavy last third. And then the encore which went for ages.

What's great to see is that the gaps and pacing downsides of the previous year have been corrected and improved. The pacing has been tightened up, the banter and ments flow much more smoothly and the show just feels very professional and well run.

It's a shock to realise they've only been around one year four months but they were able to fill out a full 2.5 hour set, every song solid. And KQ spent proper money on this, the production was good - it's not like LAVISH but there were good stages and fancy screens and new VCRs and plenty of back up dancers, and it all worked well. There were maybe too many fireworks on the first night (I hate it when it obstructs the choreo) but they'd adjusted well on the second night.

Surprising but welcome - they had English subs for some of the ments. I don't think they were "live" subs because sometimes they'd get ahead of what the members were saying. But it was helpful. Even without them, body language and tone says a lot. Though I'm regretful that I don't understand Seonghwa's acrostic poems or all of their stupid jokes lol.

The show is called Fellowship and they leaned into it hard, asking Atiny to be part of their shared journey and to stick with them forever. It's a familiar refrain from other shows, but each time I find it both surprising and effective - this very overt, explicitly stated entreaty to be a fan, to enter into this imagined relationship, the appeal to reciprocity. "We've made you happy, make us happy too, be with us and we'll be with you."

But you can know a thing and it can still be effective. I did love the shows. I want them to be happy too!

A list of observations and random things:

Spoilers follow, I'd put it behind a cut but I can't figure out how on mobile haha

OK REALLY SPOILERS NOW

-first VCR to open the show expanded on the Treasure theme.

-Desire opens with blindfold choreo. Was this a gift for me? THANK U.

-for Lights, they had cute moments where they held up little speech bubbles over each others heads. They paired up with Hongjoong and Mingi, San and Wooyoung, Seonghwa and Yunho, and Yeosang and Jongho. Both nights, Woosan held hands. On the second night Yunho held Seonghwa's hand and Seonghwa was like a shy maiden. Mingi and Hongjoong had very strong flirty energy. Yeosang and Jongho are cute.

-the VCR in between part 1 pirates and part 2 fun boys showed what felt like a series of different dimensions? An ocean, a mountain, fields of flowers, cosmic surrealism, etc. As though each of them was alone somewhere in time and space.

-During If without you, they threw out balls to the crowd as gifts (mini riots ensued). Mingi put the empty basket on his head both nights, what a beautiful fool.

-Night 1 was the first time with the light stick! Hongjoong announced its official name: Lightiny (light of destiny) but also Tinybong lololol. The light stick is super pretty. I was tempted but didn't have time the first night. The second night it was sold out when I arrived!!!

-The VCR in between parts 2 and 3 is the really intriguing one. It paired them up into the Lights pairs again. Yeosang and Jongho searched for each other in a hall of billowing drapes. Mingi and Hongjoong were rockstars (with great lipstick). San and Wooyoung were mirrorverse versions of each other. Yunho and Seonghwa put together the pieces of a puzzle in a set that reminded me of both Treasure and Wonderland.

-In the intro to Say My Name on the first night, Hongjoong went halfway down the stairs then turned around, went back and grabbed his mic, then went down again lol. The second night he very firmly took his mic before descending the stairs lol.

-The final VCR before the encore showed them uncovering items on pedestals as though in a museum: a camera, a gramophone, a painting, a book of poetry by Yeats... Then they all created a painting together. When viewed through a red screen (like the puzzles in their albums) the pattern revealed a compass. They then all showed their wrists to reveal each had a compass tattoo.... WHAT IS THIS OT8 SOULMARK FIC!!!!!

-They said they had planned for every audience member to have this compass stamp (the Fellowship again) but it was cancelled due to health concerns. But we could see it with our true eyes, right???? On the second night, the 99s swarmed Seonghwa at this point to try to look down his shirt. I see. I see. (Later on Hongjoong also tried to peek into Mingi's shirt also fine just fine.)

-Early in the show Hongjoong said there would be clues through the show about the next steps in their concept/narrative. The hourglass and compass were very recurrent but these are not new. Hmm. I wonder.

-In one ment on night 1, Jongho spoke to all his hyungs informally and it was HILARIOUS. He did something similar on the second night, patting Yunho on the head and pinching Wooyoung's chin etc.

-During Star 1117 on the first night, Hongjoong and San started crying. Then in the following ment, they and Yunho and Wooyoung were crying, and Seonghwa and Jongho were teary. Yunho cried so hard (missing his grandfather!) that during Hongjoong's ment, Mingi quietly went over and gave him a towel. There were like five members in between that he passed to give him the towel, it was so sweet I'll cry. Night 2 felt more joyful and upbeat.

-Some ppl really left way too early like before the encore. The encore is half an hour long omg! You missed out on so many songs!!!!!

-On night 1 between main set and encore the crowd didn't quite know what to do. Huge kudos to the fans who led some cheers otherwise it would have been so quiet. Second night was better and also they kept the light sticks on while we were waiting which added to the atmosphere.

-They didn't sell a couple of sections in the hall at all, they were curtained off. It's interesting to think BTS had their first Muster here at around the same point in their careers. Like BTS, Ateez too are more popular globally than at home. They were beaten quite handily in voting on music shows by SF9 this comeback, who are more popular at home than internationally.

-It is great being in a huge fandom like BTS but also you know this is actually a great time to stan a group like Ateez. They're big enough to be exciting and have good shows, they are interesting and still developing, they're still playing intimate venues... They're good!!!!!

-A few of them had fake neck tattoos. San helpfully labeled himself "San" on the second night lol.

-Hongjoong briefly went off stage during sunrise On night 2. Hopefully just a technical issue.

-Treasure and Precious choreo start and end in the same place, echoing their musical connection.

-They had different encore outfits for Answer each night, before changing into hoodies. On night 2, Yeosang saw some of the others had scarves/banners tucked into their back pockets and was like "where's mine????" Instead of a banner, Yunho had a baseball cap. Seonghwa took his off and Hongjoong tied it around Seonghwa's wrist.

-For Star 1117, everyone held up their mobile phone lights. On night 2, San repeated the request in English too. Very pretty to see all the lights.

-On second night, Seonghwa and San got their mics and necklace tangled up during a ment lol.

Sticky Notes (FriendlyPack Fic)

Title: Sticky Notes

Pairing: Stan Wheeler x Jimmy Bending (FriendlyPack)

Summary: Stan and Jimmy had been boyfriends for a while now and Stan thought of a perfect 1st anniversary date for jimmy. He places sticky notes with clues of where he is. With their friends helping Stan with the idea. At the end of the scavenger hunt, Jimmy finds Stan wearing a blue tuxedo with his signature Fannypack standing on the place where they first met.

“Sunflower?”

He asked as he opened his eyes. The bed was empty and cold, missing a certain person. His eyes wondered around the room he was in, and then he stumbled upon a yellow sticky note on the pillow next to him. He picked it up and already recognized the handwriting that it belongs to his love. He smiled and whispered to himself the words;

“Good Morning, Friendly.

There’s breakfast ready for you in the kitchen!

Drink plenty of water!

Love, Fannypack”

He smiled and went towards their kitchen. He sat down and digs in the wonderful food his sunflower made for him, and of course drank plenty of water. After his stomach was full, he then noticed another yellow note sticking on the flower vase in front of him. It reads:

“A water a day keeps the thirst away!

I know you’re confused right now from all

This notes but don’t freak out! I’m at the

Hospital-“

He didn’t even finish reading the note and quickly dressed up and went running out the apartment. He burst through the door scaring some people next to him. He apologized and ran to his car. Arms fiddling to unlock the car door while cursing out such colorful words. His heart beating fast and his mind thinking all the possible bad things that happened to his sunflower. Snapped out of it Jimmy! His fine.

When the engine is on, he quickly drove towards the hospital. Ignoring the red lights and cars that are honking on his fast driving. He could probably be pulled by a police by speeding but that’s none of his concern at the moment. After what felt like an eternity, -when it was only 4 minutes thanks to his driving-, he finally arrived at the hospital. Bursting through the glass door, shocking some patients and nurses. Brenda, the receptionist, was on her place staring at what was happening. Trying her best to not full on laughing at Jimmy’s full on outburst. The man was yelling his sunflower’s name to people asking where he is and running from A to B. Brenda, with her amusement quenched, called the man over. Not even a second later, his already in front of her.

“You bitch! Where’s Stan? You stole him from me did you!? Oh my fucking god! When I found him, I’ll kill you and-“

“Jimmy, chill. Your boyfriend is fine. But he told me to give you this.” She then gave him a yellow sticky note. And it read;

“I’m sorry for scaring you! I didn’t mean to give

You a heart attack! But remember all the times

We were put here and waited for each other?

Fun memories, I say!

I’m at the police station! And no I am not in trouble!

He let out a sigh of relief. “Sorry about my sudden outburst, Brenda.” He said embarrassingly. She rolled her eyes and nodded. Pointing at the door and said, “Whatever, just go get your man or something”. Jimmy’s cheeks turn a slight shade of pink. His still not used to hearing someone pointed out that his in a full on relationship. His not thinking it in a bad way! Don’t get him wrong, his so proud that as amazing and handsome as Stan is his boyfriend. Hell, every time he and Stan went out holding hands, they’re not afraid to show it off.

He shook his head, stopping the voices in his head to write a long ass essay of his life. He put on the ignition and head out to the police station. He turned on the radio to engulf the silence and continue driving. When he finally arrived at the front of the police station, he turned off the ignition and step out the car. The blue haired man walked in the door and saw Lieutenant Ziggy on the counter. The policeman waved him over.

“Hey Jimmy, what brings you here-“

“Ziggy, shut up. I know Stan said something for me so just zip it” He said and slammed his hands on the counter. The policeman sighed and gave him another yellow sticky note with the same handwriting. It said:

“To be honest I have no idea why the next location is the police station.

Maybe because it’s the only thing Ziggy would work for me.

Anyway, I’m at the place where we did the you know what.

The cabbage picking. The parmesan. The not so legal.

Okay! The first house we robbed together!

“You didn’t read this, did you?” Jimmy asked nervously. The incident was so long ago but it’s still a crime. The police man chuckled and said, “Even if I did read it or not, I’m not going to bust your ass. Just go and get your man before I change my mind”. He didn’t twice and went directly out the building. Went inside his car and drove the fuck out of there. The man let out a sigh and focuses on the roadway ahead. He noticed that the city is quite silent today, like nothing bad is happening. No cry for help, no ambulance sounds, and no police sirens heard. It’s weird to have a peaceful day in Los Santos. Not that he mind, just weird.

He saw the house ahead and remembered the quite fun memories he and Stan had. Even though he almost traumatized Stan with him allegedly murdering the man who owns the house. It’s fun. He saw someone on the sidewalk and it seems its Eugene and Edna. He parked in front of them and waved.

“Funny seeing you two here. Let me guess, Stan told you to wait here for me to arrive and give me a piece of note” Jimmy said to the two. “Hell no, we’re here because a man who looked like Stan is dead inside the house” Eugene said with glee. Jimmy’s face turned pale and nervously laughed. Edna quickly punched Eugene, “Ey! Don’t scare the poor boy with your shit!” She then looked at Jimmy who is still at the state of shock and slapped him, waking him up. “His just being his shitty self, Stan’s fine. Here” She gave jimmy the paper. “Just get out of here, I don’t want any witness when I kill this bitch” Eugene quickly ran away with Edna on his tail.

“My first time doing something illegal! The adrenaline was

Something! Remember when I yelled ‘Oh my god’ so many times

When you killed a man? Good times. Oh, and you almost selling me crack?

The friendliest crack dealer in Los Santos! I’m at the place where we almost died!

He shivered at the thought of the memory. The time when they turned into hostages. He turned on the ignition and drove to Polido Bank. He turned on the radio to silence the long drive to the bank. To his surprise, he heard Kiki’s voice in the radio.

“Good Afternoon, you mothertruckers! Kiki Chanel in the house for your daily thirst quenching! Queue the applause..... I SAID QUEUE THE APPLAU- yayyyyyy. Okay, okay, okay. Before you get your daily bad choices of song, here’s a special message from Jackie chan himself! He said and i quote with his voice; Better hurry up before this motherfucker is dead!’ And here we have our special sponsors, Kiki’s KOC-“

He suddenly turned down the radio and pressed hard on the paddle, increasing the acceleration of his car. Moving from left to right, avoiding everything that is on his way. Praying that he won’t get pulled over. After what felt like an eternity with his heart beating fast, he can finally see the bank ahead with Buddha or Jackie chan leaning on the side of the bank. With him are two people with a monkey mask and a bandana covering itself. He pulled over and walked hastily to them.

“Where’s Stan-“ he was cut off with a gun on his forehead. The man who has the gun tsked and shook his head. The other two who is with him chuckled, making Jimmy nervous.

“Remember the time when you said they were boyfriends? And they denied?” The man with the monkey mask said to the bandana. He nodded and replied, “And now look at where we are now. The two supposedly not in a relationship are now lovebirds!” The bandana surprisingly shrieked in delight. Following the monkey and Jackie chan. Removing the gun off Jimmy’s forehead.

“We’re just fucking with you, Velvet aurora!” Jimmy shivered at the name and corrected him with “Friendly”. Jackie Chan nodded and gave him the yellow note his been waiting for. Jimmy said his goodbyes and quickly walked towards his car. But not without hearing one of them say, “Go get that Water man D!”. Jimmy’s cheek reddened and drove off the bank. While driving, he swiftly read the note.

“The time when my life flashes before my eyes! In a bad way, i say! Still grumpy about them not buying my water. Anyway, remember when you threatened me? Yeah I’m there!

He checked his watch and saw it’s almost past 4 O’clock. He took off his sunglasses and started rubbing his forehead. “All of this stress better be worth it, Stan” He whispered to himself, but a small smile visible on his lips. He saw the familiar fence and the gate leading to the place where he ‘threatened’ Stan.

He gets out his car and walked down. He saw someone standing near the water, wearing a rather familiar outfit. A female police outfit and its pink hat.

“Sup, bitch” yep, that’s kiki alright.

“Why are you here? And how the fuck do you know this place?” Jimmy asked the gorgeous woman.

“Well nice to see you too, asshole! Such toxic masculinity. At least someone thinks I’m gorgeous.” Kiki smirked at him. He rolled his eyes and put out his hand, gesturing for something them both already knew.

“You’re no fun. I’m planning on like putting it inside a bottle and throwing it in the water and you sacrificing your life to get it or something” She said and simply shrugged at Jimmy’s shocked face.

“Anyway, out of all the places you, Stan, and I went to. Why this place?” Kiki asked. Jimmy shrugged and looked the other way, avoiding her eyes. “How do i know?”

She scoffed at his response and replied, “Because you’re his boyfriend? I can’t even believe Stan choose you over this bomb ass pussy! Huuuuuuuuuuuuuu” Then started dancing seductively. Jimmy pretended to gag and vomit.

“HOOOWWWW DAAAAAARRREEEE YOUUUUUU- here, I’m done with this toxicity of masculinity! This bomb ass pussy is out!” After she thrown the piece of paper to Jimmy, she sashayed away with her hips going left and right with her middle finger in the air. “Don’t forget to use protection and lots of lube!” She yelled. Jimmy quickly grabbed the paper flowing in the air before it hit the wet ground. He fixed his posture and read it out loud;

Jimmy’s chest felt so warm. The feeling is like when they first met. How such a middle aged man that is so naive and innocent ended up with a guy like him. He felt the tears coming up but quickly hold it. It’s not time yet. He pocketed the paper, along with the others, and went to his car. Jimmy started heading to the place he never though a love story would start.

While his driving, he can see the sunset shining through him. Letting the final ray of sunshine warmth him. Remembering the time when he and Stan went out to eat burgers and watched the sunset together. It may not seem like a date but it is to him. Oh how he wished his brave enough to tell Stan his feelings that time. But that doesn’t matter right now, because they’re together and happy. He’ll get even happier when he finally sees his sunflower.

His nearing at the destination and can see what seems like a curtain blocking the parking lot? Is that legal?

He slowly parked near the destination and get out the car. He looked around, trying to find his love but no luck. He sighed and leaned on the side his car. He took out his cigarette and lighter, and was about to light it when he heard a very familiar voice.

“Didn’t you promised you’ll stop smoking?”

Jimmy’s eyes widen and looked up. His cheeks reddened and mouth opened, letting the cigarette fall out his mouth. There in front of him shows Stan Wheeler, wearing a blue tuxedo with a matching blue fanny pack. Some black shorts and black fancy shoes. His blonde hair was gelled back making him look somewhat fancy. His hands behind him fidgeting a bit and his eyes looking around, avoiding Jimmy’s covered eyes. Perfect timing, the final sunrise set on Stan making him shine. Making him looked like a literal sunflower that is blue all over.

“Uh-uhmm.. h-hi ji-jimmy...” Stan let out a genuine smile. Then suddenly the carpet behind Stan fall revealing such a beautiful sight. It was a beautiful sight when it got caught off by Stan screaming “GOD HELP! THE CARPET HAS DEVOURED MY EXISTENCE!!! HELPPPP!!”.

Jimmy chuckled at his clumsiness and helped him get out the carpet monster. -As that Stan called it-. Stan’s head is finally out, so does the rest of his body, and didn’t realize that Jimmy’s face is so near his. It’s so close that them both can feel each other’s breath. Both men has their cheek blushing. Even after a year dating, these two still get flustered over each other.

Jimmy helped Stan up and looked back the beautiful sight. There was Christmas lights attached above lighting over a fancy table with food and of course water. An inflatable balloon on the background spelling “Happy 1st Anniversary Stimmy by Kiki and friends”.

“So that’s why all of them are both so cryptic and extra stupid” Jimmy said to Stan. He nodded and gestured to the fancy table. They sat down and started talking about times they’re together and being themselves to others. They can hear some locals walking passed them but Kiki threatening them out loud outshine it. With Ziggy and Brenda trying to stop her from killing someone, Eugene and Edna film the whole thing, and other of their friends laughing. It may looked like they’re invading both of their privacy but without those people, none of this would’ve happened.

“I’m so lucky to have them, and also you Jimmy” Stan said.

“Don’t be such a sap!” The water man giggled at his response. “Oh! I almost forgot!” Stan then went under the table and let out a present.

“Wait, I didn’t get you anything!” Jimmy started panicking but Stan beat him to it and told him its fine. Stan gave the gift to Jimmy, who’s still sulking over not giving him a gift. Jimmy slowly opened the wrapped gift and saw... a water bottle?

“Uhm, Stan?”

“Look at the brand!” Stan said with excitement. Jimmy raised his eyebrows and looked down. It said, “Friendly Water!”.

“You and I are now business partners for my water business!” Stan said with glee. “Aren’t I already am with me driving you all over town?” Stan shushed him and told him that it’s beside the point. Jimmy chuckled at his silliness and stared at him with so much love. His so lucky to have such a wonderful and handsome man like Stan.

“I’m so lucky to have you too Jimmy” Jimmy laughed and realized he said it out loud. With the stars and moon shining above them, and the chaos happening around them cause by their friends. Nothing would ever ruin such a beautiful night.

A/N: This is part of my Lifelong Love Letter universe. It can be read as a stand alone as always. It’s 2014 on Sebastian’s birthday and he and the reader has a 8 month old daughter Isabella.

Since my Q is being annoying and it’s over midnight here I am posting a bit early so: Happy birthday Sebastian! Sorry my readers decided for me to angst lol

Lifelong Love Letter Masterlist

It was a little over a month since Sebastian had moved out of the apartment. Sure it had been his, before you moved in but that hadn’t mattered to him. It still didn't. He was used to moving around and if staying on couches and in hotel beds were how it had to be for a while so be it.

Logically he knew the two of you needed time apart. He wasn’t sure what happened. Everything had been great and then suddenly it was as if you barely talked. When you did it was to fight. As much as Sebastian hated being apart from you and Isabella at least the fighting had stopped after he moved out. He wasn’t sure he liked what had taken its place though.

Things between you and him were awkward now. It felt as if you couldn’t get away from him fast enough and honestly it was hard to blame you when the time you spend together felt as if you were strangers.

Sebastian took a deep breath leaning back against the tree where he was waiting for the two of you. It had been your idea to meet in the park and to have Isabella spend the day with him. He hadn’t objected of course. There were no other way he’d rather spend his birthday then with his baby girl. Actually there might be one way. He’d spend it with both of his girls, but he had been scared to ask you if you were staying too on the phone last night so now all he could do was hope.

“Hi,” your voice tore him from his thoughts and he stood up, smiling as you came towards him pushing the stroller. “I’m so sorry. I couldn’t get her so sleep last night so now she’s…”

Sebastian looked into the stroller with a grin, gently stroking his daughter’s cheek as you spoke.

“Out cold,” he finished for you, making you laugh. His heart skipped a beat at the sound. God he had missed that.

“Well yeah. She’s your daughter after all,” you sassed, making Sebastian fight a smile. He had missed this too and he wanted to keep it going for as long as possible.

“Hey,” Sebastian tried to sound offended but failed miserably, making you laugh even harder. You smiled softly still when you stopped and Sebastian couldn’t help but return it. His heart twisted when you suddenly cleared your throat pushing your hair away from your face as you looked to the ground.

“So are you dropping her off or do you want me to pick her up somewhere tonight before you’re heading out?” you asked, making Sebastian frown. You weren’t planning on sticking around and he wasn’t sure what to do to change your mind.

“I… erhm. I can drop her off I guess. We’re not going out. It’s just the guys hanging out at Will’s,” Sebastian answered awkwardly shifting on his feet but not taking his eyes off her. How had things gotten to this he wondered. Whatever he did wrong he wanted to take it back. He had always screwed up every relationship he had been in, but he had really thought it would be different with you. He still loved you and he doubted that would ever change.

“Alright. I’ll be home all night so whenever is fine,” you looked up meeting his eyes and smiling softly again. Sebastian’s breath hitched when you suddenly stepped forward throwing your arms around his neck. Even if his mind took a second to catch up, his body reacted on instinct and he wrapped his arms around you pulling you close. His eyes fell shut as he breathed you in. You felt like home to him and he never wanted to let you go.

“Happy birthday Seba,” you whispered, making his hold on you tighten even more.

Seba. He couldn’t remember the last time you’d called him that and he had to fight the tears from spilling down his face. He loved you so much and even of it was nothing to anyone else, to him you using that nickname meant you still loved him too.

He had no idea how long you stayed in his arms, but he was sure it was too long to be appropriate. Yet it didn’t feel long enough at all. His hand slide down your arm, taking a hold of yours before you could pull away completely.

“Stay,” he pleaded with you. He saw the doubt in your eyes. He hated it but he didn’t let go. He had given you space. He would continue too if that’s what you wanted but he had to fight for you. You needed to see how much he still wanted you to be a part of his life and not just as the mother of his daughter.

“Aren’t you going to your mom’s?” you were chewing the inside of you cheek like you always did when you were nervous. At least you were still holding his hand. You weren’t trying to get get away from him.

“Yeah… Not until this afternoon though. We could have brunch or something?” Sebastian offered, giving your hand a squeeze.

“It’s a week day. I’m sure we can get a table at Aurora,” Sebastian knew how much you loved that place. You hadn’t been there since just after Isabella was born.

“You sure? I don’t wanna intrude,” you looked so fragile it took everything he had not to pull you back into his arms and kiss you senseless. He had no idea how he had ever made you feel like you’d ever be an intrusion in his life but he needed to correct that.

“You couldn’t,” he assured you softly, as he pushed your hair away from your face with his free hand, before cupping your cheek. He smiled when you leaned into his touch, wrapping your hand around his wrist as if you were trying to keep his hand in place. You didn’t need too. He brushed his thumb over your cheekbone as he gently repeated his request.

“Stay?”

You took a deep breath looking into his eyes. Sebastian tried hard to read your mind but it was impossible. So he just smile at you hopefully.

“Okay,” you nodded and Sebastian’s face split into a huge grin making you giggle. “Let’s go. I’m starving.”

Sebastian laughed, giving your hand a squeeze, but not letting go as he grabbed the handle of the stroller with his free hand, pushing it in front of you. He felt as if a weight had been lifted of him as you leaned slightly against his arm. He knew this wasn’t a miracle fix and that he wasn’t going home tonight. It was a start though and for the first time in a long time he felt as if you were going to be alright.

IM SCREAMING WTF YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING genuinely can’t believe i have more than 1000 of you actually liking my blog to the point of following me??!!!
