The Adventure of Link... my beloved.

I'm playing a fan-made remaster of Zelda 2 and I REALLY like it. Temples are different. Some backtracking involved for heart containers and magic potions (Much like in later zelda games). The world is a lot more fleshed out too.

Last update on the Laios breastplate before I start the long process of painting it! Today I did the most painful and sad step of the whole process - weathering.

You'll remember that throughout this whole build, I stopped myself from adding unnecessary decorations and details because Laios is very utilitarian with his gear and doesn't care much about appearances, especially because he can't afford to replace his armor. This became my chance to add texture where I could.

In short, I always intended to make his armor look like it had been beat to shit. And so, after a month of making sure everything was clean and precisely perfect... I tore it to shreds.

I learned a lot from Laudna in '22, including the fact that you can't half-ass weathering if you want it to read in pictures. I focused on the parts that would be the most likely to catch a sword or a claw, the protruding seams and edges, while trying not to make too many busy little spots.

These cuts and gouges will give me something to highlight with my paint job, improve the overall texture of the armor, and hopefully be a little removed from the shiny, cartoony look of the anime. Now I just have to get the rest of the armor to this point 😓

cw for abusive manipulation tactics. like.. mind games. just in case. this response is a little dark just by merit of it being about psychological manipulation through lying, so take care.

kirby is as affectionate and loving as ever! he actually adores galacta knight, who stole the existing trust and familial affection kirby already felt for meta knight when they switched places.

there's a line in the another dimension fight comic, where galacta knight says "he's my family now, as he could have been yours.", and he means this truly. where meta knight was always a little stoic and guarded with his feelings, galacta knight is quick and easy with affection when it suits him, and reaps the rewards instantly

but what he does is targeted. if he were going after someone else (like bandee or dedede) he'd use a different tactic. kindness only works this well because kirby is so isolated and lonely, and craves it so desperately

this is super important i think; his core traits are the same as always. kirby is a good little guy!

he wants to be a hero. he wants to have friends and have a fun time and keep the people he loves safe. he wants to be good and to do the right thing with all his heart, it's just that what is "good" and "the right thing" is being purposefully warped around him

maybe it's good to act pre-emptively to prevent a war with the nation in the clouds, especially when they acted aggressively first.

maybe it's good to seek out and squash any trace of dark matter before it can infect anyone else, even if it's currently harmless.

maybe it's good to put that clearly possessed person out of their misery on sight, so they don't have to suffer anymore, because you couldn't save them anyway, right?

for bandee, who becomes aware this is happening, it's heart-breaking to watch. but he can't confide in kirby, because galacta knight's claws are too deep in him. also he will not put the pressure on kirby to keep a secret that could get them all killed

all he can do is try to be there to keep kirby safe, and hope he can reverse the wish before kirby crosses a threshold of misery or ruthlessness they cannot get him back from

This stretch of Malevolent (just finished part 37) has really made me notice how much Arthur looks for himself in others. Mostly in bad ways, but it turns out well sometimes, too.

The pretty much back-to-back instances of "we're two cards drawn from the same deck" (calling on Larson's voice in his nightmare) and "it's what I would do" (predicting the Butcher's next move) and then "I'm glad Parker didn't feel the same way" (helping Oscar choose a different path for the night) -- it just keeps cropping up that Arthur's empathy is what allows him to connect to others.

Other instances include freeing the canna and Lily (nobody deserves to be imprisoned), sparing the wraith (giving a failed parent a second chance), even saving the baby (no child should be alone). Of course, this empathy leads him to anger just as easily, as with Larson.

(I imagine this is why the Butcher confused him so much -- he kept looking for a connection but couldn't seem to find one, aside from their investigative habits)

I could try to go in-depth about whether this is self-centerdness or loneliness or just Arthur's self-loathing hating the idea that people would make the same mistakes as him, but that's a thought for another day. Whatever the motivation, empathy moves him. And it often moves him to better the lives of others. And at the end of the day, that's what he cares about.

ive been really tempted for ages to write a fic from mu qingfang's pov about how sqh's injuries gradually get more and worse. trying to subtly approach the subject, leaving certain medicines within easy stealing access. desperately trying to talk about it when he comes in one day with a dislocated shoulder, a shattered elbow, and an arm broken in two places. hes just clumsy! he fell down the stairs! nothing to worry about shidi everythings fine! he said its fine. stop. asking. questions. please.

Mu Qingfang is so worried about him, He's really only trying to help and Shang Qinghua definitely seems the type to just straight up not go to the doctors if he can help it so he probably had WAYY more injuries that he hid

Shang Qinghua definitely would just laugh it off like "I'm fine. Im fine! I do so much work I'm bound to get an injury here and there!" Except he's been continously getting injured and to such a degree it's CONCERNING

I would love to see a fic about a concerned Mu Qingfang trying his best to help the resident god that can't seem to control his shit very well

The return of some old faces

I finally got around to fleshing them out, so here's some more info on them under the cut:

They're all students at New Salem University and share a dorm room together. Demonique and Luci have been longtime friends, attending elementary and middle school in Hell before transferring to Monster High together, while Fangel is newer to the friend group, but feels as though she's always belonged with these ghouls.

Fangel attended Belfry Prep her whole un-life until she was able to escape that stuffy and intolerant environment once she graduated and started college. She never agreed with traditional vampire values, and always kept friends outside of school that were different monster types, and she's absolutely thriving in campus life.

Demonique may or may not have feelings for her vampire friend, but knows that she's already in a happy and committed relationship, and so she keeps her feelings hidden. Aside from that she's super chill and often the voice of reason. She's also incredibly creative, and is apart of all kinda of clubs on campus.

As Lucifer's eldest child, Luci is set to become the new ruler of Hell once her father retires. She's actually pretty hyped about it, and figures a business degree will help her become an effective ruler. She's the campus's resident party girl, and given her popularity, she's known for throwing the biggest college parties around. Given her status, she's able to get away with more than the average student, but she tries not to abuse this power too much.

I’d imagine that pv was always curious about his soulmate, and once he attempted to follow the string only to have to stop because it was going over the ocean. Anyway time skip, the gang is going to Beast-Yeast, and pv notices with growing curiosity that they’re actually going in the direction of his string. More story stuff happens, they get to the village n stuff, and pv is hit with overwhelming dread as he realizes the string leads directly into the tree. The sealed tree. With the Beasts inside of it.

Okay this new picture confused me enough to post about it.

It's lovely, love the cat. But I'm confused, what exactly are they're going for here? I'm supposing this:

But the problem is they didn't bring Saito's arm and the cat actually in front of Okita (btw Okita's referring to this). All three of them are depthwise on different level, though Okita's finger is too perfectly close to look like he's touching the kitten's nose. Yet being on different levels they're all staring at different things!

I mean this is the supposed side view of that picture.
