the cringiest most annoying thing about being czech and studying linguistics here is that there will always be a person in our strictly english-taught classes whose father founded cambridge or they’ve lived in america up until two minutes before attending the class or something and they will get such a fucking kick out of having a perfectly flawless accent and pronunciation in a lecture hall full of people who considering the fact they’re studying a second or sometimes third language have honestly incredibly native sounding accents as well and they will constantly interrupt the lesson and pose these verbose fucking questions about meaningless page 2 of the textbook things and the professors of course love listening to them and watching them apply themselves so they’re always smiling from ear to ear the entire 20 minutes it takes for the student to give their performance plus they encourage them to do it more by being like ‘ohhhhh we’ve got a native speaker perspective here!!!!’ and taking the time to pick apart and discuss whatever they said so it goes on for like an hour and wastes everyone’s time and every time literally every single time they finally thank the professor and sit down and the lesson can resume again you can see like the ukrainians and the spanish exchange students and the normal people who just come to the class to learn shit all like shift in their seats and take a look at each other judging them silently and it’s so fucking funny but i always think yeah great. you just went and took away the confidence to say something out loud from literally everyone in this room

when writing for characters always take a bit of extra time to ensure they sound good? thinking about having an actual conversation with them for a minute and what they’d do! ♧ personally a big fan of viginettes since that reveals a lot of a character more than mainstory.

thinking about even and jack meeting, because i think it would be hilarious. it’s not that flirtation goes completely over their head, it’s that anything that’s even slightly more complicated than ‘you’re pretty’ misses it’s mark because there are context clues they are not picking up on (autism) and innuendo they aren’t versed in at all (spaceship). which jack could obviously adapt to very quickly, i just think it would be funny for him to throw out something charming and just get sort of. squinted at.
