Hadestown West End Cast for Big Night of Musicals

Hadestown today for Grace and Dónal's final performances was actually insane. The energy was electric, every single performer on stage gave it their fucking all as though it was also their last performance too, right off the bat everyone was already emotional, the crowd was wild and cheering insanely loud at the very beginning, all the emotional moments were 10x more tender. Dónal's last If It's True was actually fucking crazy it was a showstopper to the point that when it ended not only did everyone applaud like usual but everyone stood up for a grand standing ovation. (Also I was sat next to his parents!! When everyone came out on stage at the beginning his mum stood up and waved and clapped for him, I was so emotional!) During Promises when Eurydice says "You finished it" about Orpheus finally completing his song the whole theatre erupted into cheers and applause (that never happens in that moment). When Grace has her big note at the end of Wait for Me (Reprise) the cheering and applause was so loud. The audience was just electric like never before, the cheering and applause for every single song had such a different and more intense feel to it than any other day. When Orpheus turns around and loses Eurydice the whole theatre held its breath and you could hear a pin drop when Hermes starts singing the finale. Melanie started it so so quietly and solemnly and tragically and it was so beautiful. Everyone on stage was crying when they came to take their bows and Madeline got a moment of appreciation since she's taking over as Eurydice. Dónal and Grace had extended applause moments. Everyone was a sobbing mess during We Raise Our Cups, both audience and cast alike AND!! The rest of the cast (swings and understudies) came out during the song to raise their cups as well!! And then Melanie asked everyone to be seated again and called all the tech team out to stage too, taught us a call and response she'd like us to keep in mind from a storytelling tradition back in Trinidad and Tobago (sorry I can't remember it rn I was too much of an emotional wreck!!) And then she gave Grace and Dónal respectively a beautiful heart felt genuine lovely speech and goodbye, there was not a dry eye in the whole place. She asked everyone on stage to create a path and then sent Grace and Dónal off with a rhyme and the call and response she taught us, and they walked off the way Orpheus and Eurydice would have walked out of hell together if he hadn't turned around!!!!!, and they stopped at the top just before the exit to wave bye to everyone and honestly there's probably loads I'm missing out on but I cried too damn much to be able to have the mental capacity to even formulate thoughts so if anyone else was there today and has anything to add please do so!!!! 😭 it was an insane time and I'm so so glad I got to be there and experience it, it was pure magic. I got this vid of the bows and you can see how emotional everyone was but had to cut it off as We Raise Our Cups started because my hands were shaking so much (I have a full vid of the song from months ago tho if anyone wants to see it just search on my blog)

Cassie had already spent a few days in this new place, where Zatanna teleported her, but this place was pretty cool. And she met her half-sister and uncle Hades here. While here, she meets the silver haired boy, Danny, who worked for her uncle. He was pretty cute! She should thank Zatanna later. + Danny liked to spend time and do fighting against Cassie and was interested in the human world around her. He was only on his own, and he didn't have any heroes like hers. It was only him. + And after almost 3 months, it was time for Cassie to leave as the portal opened again. Cassie turned to Danny; he had told her he wanted to see her world. But he was always busy, and she had no idea how to write or contract him if she left. So she did a Greek Mythology thing. Cassie grabbed Danny and took him with her into the portal: "Your boss kidnapped my sister, so it's fair if I kidnap you! I bet you would enjoy the world and being a hero." Danny turned to Hades and his wife and said, " Boss!" Persephone just smiled:" Have fun!" Hades is not even looking up from the paperwork:" Bring back snacks when you return in 6 months." + Zatanna smiled as she looked at the portal. She finally did the right spell. But why is Cassie with a cute boy? Wally asked, " Who is he?" Cassie:" He works for my uncle; I kidnapped him to show him our world. No fear, my uncle said it's okay." Diana looked at her protege and sidekick, who whispered to her mentor, " He is strong; I like to fight him."

Danny looked out of the Window, truly a nice stars to see in this place.

Literally every single way that Dónal Finn says yes: the wee yessSSS? before Hermes warns him not to come on to strong cause he knows his Hermes is gonna warn him not to pull any nonsense. How his voice just cracks in Wedding Song, and in Promises just how proud and excited he is.

How Dónal forgets his words in Promises. It is very Orpheus and very cute.

All I've Ever Known - when he sings 'suddenly I'm holding the world in my arms'. I like to think about this a lot.

I am a Chant girlie through and through and Gloria and Zach absolutely nailed the assignment. How they are just having the most intense Lovers Quarrell. They are going off on one another and it breaks my heart I never got to see these two together.

The Fates. I love them. They are absolutely amazing in the album. Their taunts and their cackles and how they are always there just teasing everyone. It really just emphasises the part of them always being there.

Wait For Me continues to ruin me. Both versions. I will be forwarding them my therapy bills.

If It's True: Fam, I ain't doing alright. Who gave this man the right.

Road to Hell (Reprise). Gonna be honest, punching me in the face would hurt less and I am someone who speaks from experience.

Every part of this album is perfect and already most of it is in my On Repeat on Spotify. Every single member of this cast deserves a special shout out, along with everyone who worked on this show.

Do you know if there are any official audio recordings of Chant (Reprise) with Persephone's verse included? I rewatched the show recently, and my version of the video has it, and I love it so much :') I don't even know the lore of it, and whether it was added after the cast recording came out or if it was removed from the show entirely, and that's why the audio version doesn't have it. Chants are my favourite from the whole show, and I always miss her verse when listening.

Welcome to the Persephone's Chat II Verse Fanclub!!! The closest to an official recording is the NYTW cast album version, which features a variation with different lyrics. The lore is that Hadestown's songs kept getting reworked right up until the Broadway opening night (and even when it opened on West End it got changed/updated once again) so there is a million variations floating around everywhere. Chant II included a Hades-Persephone-Hades structure (with different lyrics for Persephone's verse and different choruses) for a long time, but when it went to Broadway previews, the show had to be shortened and Persephone's verse ended on the cutting room floor. The video you mentioned was recorded during the Broadway previews, which is why it still features it (in its most brilliant version, imo). It is kind of a running joke at this point that everyone wants it back in the show, including some crew members, but we still haven't gotten it. Let me tell you, the adrenaline of sitting there in the audience at West End and realizing If It's True is different from the OBC recording, hoping so hard I am about to hear Persephone's verse in real life...... AAAUUUGHHHHHHHHH it was SO sad

You were sitting down in the greenhouse slightly off campus. It was your favourite place as you were surrounded by plants. You were watering a tulip when you heard a knock on the greenhouse door.

You walked over and were greeted by a certain blue haired kid who loved fire. You stopped him before he could come in “Sorry, I can’t let you in” He chuckled “Why not?” You held him back as he tried to walk in again “I just can’t have a walking matchstick in my greenhouse”

He stepped back and crossed his arms “A walking matchstick, we’ve never met before how would you know” You roll your eyes “Through the grapevine I guess” He pushed past you and into the greenhouse “Nice plants you got here, don’t worry I’m not going to go fire crazy” He added that last part because you were dragging him out the door.

He swatted you off him and helped you to your feet “I know you and me are alike, I know that your parents are Zeus and Demeter” You stepped back “How do you know? I’ve never told anyone” He chuckles “I’m smart in other ways”

“Why are you even here hades” He smirks “Too see you” You tilt your head “Why me?” He lightly hits you on the arm “Because a you’re the only other celestial being I know” You laugh “You don’t have to put it that way” He grabs your hands “Look I came here to ask you something”

You look up at him “Yeah?” He bites his lip “Will you go to castle-coming with me” You step back almost falling over an empty bucket “What? You’re asking me” He grabs your hand again preventing you from causing more damage “Yes, I want to get to know you better and this seems like the perfect chance” He pulls you into his chest “So uh will you go” You smile “Yes I’ll go with you”

The Greek Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld 💕

I wanted to do a series of the greek gods in my art/interpretation for some fun! (Totally not because Epic the musical brought back my Greek mythology hyper-fixation what who said that) I have some other gods still in the works but let me know if y’all would like to see more of this!
