Only Friends Character Rankings Pre-Air

Jojo, Ninew, Ninepinta and Vivienne have now presented their stable of hoes to us, y'all have chosen your fighters, and I am gnawing on concrete in anticipation of August 12. Since I'm gonna be doing weekly character rankings, I wanted to set up a pre-air Clown Checkpoint so I can look back later and see how wrong I was. Until that YouTube premiere countdown hits zero, we know exactly nothing, but I'm ready to predict whose gay wrongs I will most support! Here we go!

1. Nick

I just want you to love only me!

Ever since Mark Pakin showed up in that pilot trailer scheming and sex-taping, Nick has been MY DUDE. I want him to be the most manclown character of all time. I want him to be DESPERATE AND PATHETIC for Boston's dick. ANSWER EVERY BOOTY CALL NICK, I BELIEVE IN YOU. HE WANTS YOU TO DO A THREESOME? NO PROBLEM, WHATEVER YOU WANT BABE. I want Nick to call his bestie (Sand?) crying because Boston came over at 3:02 a.m. and left at 4:37 a.m. and 15 minutes of that was him taking a post-coital shower. I want crying and begging and clinging and devious acts. Khun Pakin has the chops to make my dreams come alive, make it happen boo!

2. Mew

My type is pretty simple. I'm not a picky kind of guy.

Right up until time of posting I thought my #2 seed would be Boston, but something is telling me that when it comes to manipulation and making grown men cry, Mew will emerge the champion. Something in this butter-wouldn't-melt expression is telling me this man is the true demon from hell whereas Boston is merely a top-tier-yet-still-garden-variety slut. Him shit-kicking Boston into the pool and then jumping in himself to finish the job is the kinda deranged shit I respect immensely. Kill them all Mew. You deserve.

3. Boston

You should be glad to be my favourite.

I may have called this man a garden variety slut, but I love a good slut though! Especially one who will lend his toys to help out a friend. And then almost instantly regret it. And then cause chaos and problems for himself as a result. And then make it everybody else's chaos and problems. Basically, I expect Boston's job to be throwing hole around Bangkok and ruining lives, and I expect him to do it WELL, and I expect him to do it in the sluttiest rent boy outfits I've ever seen.

4. Ray

You think my life will be better with you? It's only fucking going down to hell.

Speaking of chaos and problems, OUR BI DISASTER IS HERE GUYS! Bisexual? Bipolar? Why not both? The trailer is letting us know from jump that Ray is A Mess With Money and happy to use that money to buy himself some company, but also not able to keep those lines from getting blurred. I’m expecting this character to make me fall in love with him but also want to strangle him, Teh Krittikorn Saetun-style, so expect this ranking to go up until he is somehow my fave.

5. Sand

Friends don't charge friends. Besides, you should save your money for a shrink.

First Kanaphan’s job at GMMTV is to rip our hearts out roughly twice a year, and he’s right on schedule. It seems like Sand never learned not to fall for poor little rich boys, so we will all have to suffer with him. Honestly his ranking is this low right now because I see these guitars and microphones and I want no part of them. There is a short list of GMMTV boys allowed to sing at me and as much as I love First he is not on it. Ditch the microphone and bring back the baseball bat bb, I’m ready to see you bust some heads, kneecaps, car windows, whatever in pursuit of your love.

Ling Chan-The Diviners

Qualifications:

Canonically, she is an asexual lesbian who is partially paralyzed in her legs. She uses crutches for her mobility aids. For her queerness, discovering that part of herself is a major part of her journey, first realizing slowly that she loves women, and then realizing the challenges of being ace in a queer relationship at a time when asexuality isn't widely understood.

Ling contracted "infantile paralysis" (polio) as a child, being that she was born in 1920s New York City before a vaccine was available. As such, she uses crutches and leg braces in order to walk. She is explicitly an asexual lesbian who struggles to balance both of these when neither is well-understood in her time, on top of being Chinese during the period of exclusion.

Propaganda:

She's a very cool, physically disabled ace lesbian who loves science and magic and learns the joys of friendship. She's a dreamwalker who communicates with (and sometimes fights) ghosts, and when another person with a similar power reaches out to her on that basis, and he tries to befriend her moreso than most anyone had before, they become close companions and her world expands. Also, queer solidarity--he's gay and that helps her realize she is too, since she'd had limited exposure to the idea of queerness before that.

Qualifications:

Canonically bisexual, and, from the end of the first book, deaf in one ear. (More precisely, he only has one ear, there's no other one to be deaf in since it got basically blown off by cannon fire, but regardless he only has functional hearing on one side.)

Propaganda:

Canonically bi, and deaf/hard-of-hearing since near the end of the first book; if I remember correctly, gets more disabled as the series goes on. If you don't know him and you think one of your faves is the ultimate bi disaster, think again. My god is he a loser. And a jerk, at the start. But despite all that, or perhaps through all that, he can be genuinely meaningful representation. Starts out as a miserable nobleman trying to survive his father's homophobic abuse, ends up unattached from his rich parents and living his best queer, disabled life with his boyfriend in freedom.

Saw your post about seeing someone else's insane choice of obscure blorbo and that kinda made me chuckle to think about myself in relation to it. I've seen a lot of people whose LGBT+ icons are all kinds of kind, conventionally pretty characters, and meanwhile my personal bi icons are Yumeko Jabami from Kakegurui and Harry Du Bois from Disco Elysium. Not sure what it says about me that my bi faves are a sociopathic gambling addict and a walking French disaster.

never heard of Kakegurui, but Harry at least is actually extremely popular, if you hang out in the right circles! he may be yucky disgusting, but he's also well-written, has a strong character design, and is thematically interesting! those kinds of characters are common favorites, and they've totally earned it !!

It’s hard to say. Him and Atticus honestly. I think it’s cute how Chazz just. Looks up to him like some sort of god figure because he gets girls like he isn’t gay or some shit. Amazing.

My biggest headcanon about them:

Chazz Princeton is a transgender man, I know it because I made yugioh. He just has. This boymoding energy that makes me think about trans guys… and Chazz is really into scene, Alt, and emo fashion but he never got around to wearing stuff like that until he moved to duel academy!!! Baby goth!!!

He has specific tastes when it comes to guys and girls. Loves blonde girls and adores brunette guys. He has a type can you tell. Gave Syrus a chest binder while changing in the locker room, said it was because “no one wants to see your tits anymore, slacker.” But he did it because he did genuinely care for him. He has to work on that!!

Also smaller headcanons, chazz has self harm scars on his thighs and partially on his arms because life at home was not that good </3 I also like to think that when in relationships, Chazz tends to be emotionally distant. Not on purpose, of course, he’s touch and loved starved to all hell. But that was just how it was when he was a kid. He never got to see his mother that often and when he did his father and her barely spoke. All his father and his brothers desired was for him to be loved. He hasn’t been genuinely told, “I love you, Chazz” in a long time and he almost cried when Jaden told him that for the first time. His puberty depression was only exascerbated by the fact that his home life was so bad. Even when he told his brothers he was trans, they didn’t care, they just got him the surgery and said that just because he was a boy now, didn’t mean he didn’t have to live up to their expectations. SORRY FOR BEING ANGSTY I LIVE FOR IT

favorite character is easy, it’s our golden retriever bi disaster lol. the why is a little trickier maybe? i immediately fell in love with him when i watched the show (how could i not?). as a fellow bisexual it was so lovely to see his journey of self discovery done with such care. then i read the comics and i fell even harder because that boy is fucking amazing. i think he’s sort of a mix of me and my husband (who’s name is also nick i couldn’t make that up if i tried) so maybe that’s why i feel such a connection to him? but i adore him with my whole heart.
