I feel like this has probably already been pointed out, but, let's talk about the difference in the re-recording of Simple & Clean:

I specifically want to talk about the Outro of each song and how they differ. I've gotten the lyrics for both versions from a lyrics website called Genius and will provide links in the comments below.

So, looking at this outro verse we can see some differences between the original Simple & Clean and this new re-recording. Rather than repeating "hold me [...] nothing's like before" twice like the original, the re-recording only does this once. Then instead of just saying "oh, oh" and "I, I" like in the original, the re-recording states:

"hold on, hold on, hold on, oh yeah" then includes the Japanese phrase 真夜中に (mayonaka ni or In the middle of the night). The "hold on" phrase never appears in the original Simple & Clean the "In the middle of the night" Japanese phrase comes directly from Hikari, the Japanese version of the song. In Hikari, that phrase is used when directly talking about the light:

In the original version of Simple & Clean we have the POV character ending the song by saying "I...I..." but we don't know what it is that they will actually be doing going forward. That character likely doesn't even know yet, since the whole song is about wanting to keep things as they were, to make things simple and clean, and not make things complicated.

Now, here we are in 2024 with a re-recording for a series that has now spawned a bunch of games and has a very convoluted and messy storyline. We also have Sora essentially lost and needing to be found. A year passes without any luck in Remind (with only a breakthrough really happening in MoM), and we see the talk of characters being lights to each other in games like DDD and KH3.

So the phrase "hold on, hold on, hold, oh yeah" definitely feels like it is meant to be directed at Sora (hold on, we'll find you - that sort of sentiment) and the "in the middle of the night" of course can connect Hikari and Simple & Clean to each other as songs, connect to the whole concept of characters being each other's lights, while also building off of the older version of Simple & Clean to fit the newer stage and situation of the series. That line also fits in with the whole concept behind Yozora (Night Sky) and Sora (Sky) meeting "in the middle of the night."

Edit: This also ties back to the return of the KH1 opening words of "I've been having these weird thoughts lately. Like is any of this for real...or not." in regards to the Yozora and Sora connection and the re-recording of Simple & Clean.

There are so many little hints that it’s actually Riku who is the Child of Destiny. Yes, the audience is supposed to immediately assume it’s Sora. And in a way it is because Riku chose to pass the Keyblade (and his heart) to Sora. Like “the Child of Destiny will combine his heart with another”

They do that. They do that with the Gayblade. That suspiciously still don’t have a name. Riku is Sora’s Dreameater. We have Yozora. This weird mish-mash of things and traits combining Sora and Riku (but mostly looks like Riku)

And then there’s just the fact that Sora is a “dull, ordinary boy”. Throughout Sora’s journey, this has always been who he is. How he’s described by anyone who has a 6th sense about this stuff. By Nomura. And it wouldn’t be the first time Nomura has only answered with what is present knowledge. But with Riku, Nomura has said “I haven’t revealed what Riku really is yet” and has taken SO. Much. Time. Showing over and over again the Riku has a heart full of Light. Zexion ponders “What is he? No one has worn the darkness like him before.” Terra and Aqua saw so much Light in Riku and were drawn into Destiny Islands just because of how much of a Special Boy tm Riku is.

And like my last reblog mentions, Riku is capable of holding his darkness without succumbing to it. (I wonder if the Dark Road line was changed because Nomura was like “Hm, maybe this is making it too obvious” lol)

The only, and I mean ONLY thing holding me back from 1000% believing this theory and keeping me at %99 sure is the whole empathy powers thing. Both Sora and Riku have shown capabilities for this, with Sora’s being more noticeable, like opening his heart to Ventus as a child, and like, that scene in the Frozen world where Sora feels Anna’s heart get blasted by Elsa’s magic. While Riku’s empathy powers seem zero focused on Sora. Noticing Sora crying before he cries in bbs, feeling Sora’s distress in the Keyblade Graveyard before he even sees Sora, and so on. But! At the same time, Sora’s empathy link with Ventus can be explained by what happens early in bbs, with baby Sora sharing his heart with Ven. My only working theory for explaining the Elsa/Anna/Heart blast thing is that either Riku’s powers are rubbing off on Sora, which would make enough sense, if Sora gets the Keyblade then it makes sense other abilities might transfer over as well. Or because Sora related so much to Anna/Elsa’s struggles to his own conflict with Riku, it opened his heart to feeling Anna’s pain or some kind of heart connection thing like that, y’know?

Whereas Riku’s instances doing this are played a lot more subtly with with no explanation (other than Riku just having the same kind of heart connection with Sora I was just talking about) so it certainly leads me to believe with my full chest that Sora is a red herring as the Child of Destiny, while it’s actually Riku. (But then y’know, also Sora cause Riku chose Sora. :V)

And then when you add on the whole “We haven’t completed the whole “Thank Namine” plotline yet” and the Necklace Theory., and the symbolism of, if the Necklace theory holds true, Riku giving Sora a *crown* necklace. Like, I’d say I just have a hunch about all this, but it’s more like a mountain.

And yeah, definitely not the first person to point all of this out, I just needed to write some of my own thoughts down.

I think Yozoras appearance is actually MoMs. I think Yozora may ACTUALLY look more like Sora, Ana sort of “terranort thing” happened where his hair almost want to change color to match his original form, but never quite got there. When Yozora meets Sora, I don’t think he’s so much confused by Soras name as he is his apprance. Yozora looked more like Sora, but lost his body, and now someone shows up looking strikingly similar to how he looks and calls himself Sora. I’d have conflicting reactions too. Should I fight him and see if I can get me body back? I haven’t seen my real body I quite some time so this must be it even if it’s not how I remembered.

Moving on

I’m not sure how or why or if it was intentional, but I think MoM body swapped with Yozora when he jumped realities to end up in quadratum. But why would I think tha-

Now, how the heck are MoM and Riku connected? MoMs personality is almost the opposite of Riku. MoM is outwardly extroverted, boisterous, and playful. Yet, he’s had darker, more serious, moments to himself. Riku is more introverted but has been shown to be more playful and snarky by himself or one- on- one. They are almost reflections.

Kinda like what we saw with Sora and Roxas. Not direct opposites, but inverted personalities.

And you’re right. I don’t think MoM is Rikus Nobody.

I think Riku may be MoMs Nobody.

Nobodies can grow hearts. Especially once close to Sora.

MoM has always had a bit of a “chaotic experimenter” side to him. Why wouldn’t he have pulled a Xemnas/Ansem ?

MoM gave the Foretellers their keyblades, and wait… Doesn’t Riku give Sora his? And summon Kairi’s for her?

MoM gave the wielders Chirithys- Dream Eaters. Who also was able to manifest a Dream Eater (albeit himself as one) ?

Rikus Soul Eater and Way to Dawn have the Gazing Eye. Those weren’t given to him. He summoned them himself.

Now, there are a LOT of questions that I don't even have speculative answers to- namely how Riku ended up as a smol baby with parents on Destiny Islands, or whether or not MoM is even human.

There was nothing Akashi valued more then his family. He was a very blessed man, in that regard. He had found himself the loveliest wife, and you had given him three beautiful children. There was nothing more he could wish for (though sometimes, he did dreamt of even more kids). Your firstborn had been a girl, much to the disappointment of his father. Not that it had mattered to Akashi, he had been overjoyed at the sight of his child, regardless of gender. Umi was perfect, with her long h/c twin tails and her big red eyes, the way her hair drifted as she walked and giggled, she was like a mini-you, yet also so very clearly his own. The 9 year old used to be his only princess, until the birth of Rine, last year. Shio was the name of his 5 year old prince and heir, who very much could have been his twin, except for the fact he had your eyes and the shape of your mouth. Rine's hair colour was a mixture of yours and Akashi's, and she had the orange golden eyes of his other personality. It was amusing, to see him in the face of his youngest daughter. So as he sat at the breakfast table, he wore his usualy serene smile as he beheld his family eating. You were feeding little Rine her baby food, as a 1 year old it was time for her to quit the breastfeeding and start eating real food. Shio's napkin was already covered with eating spots within the first few minutes of breakfast, whereas Umi at this point had mastered table etiquette and was the only one other then himself who wasn't covered in food by the end of the meal. You groaned at the babyfood in your hair, after you had finished whiping little Rine's face. Sighing, you itched to touch it. Akashi smiled as he scooped up Rine, "Hey my babiest princess, do you want to spend some time with daddy so mommy can take a shower?" He was cooing nonsense, and with an adoring smile on your face, you left your husband by himself to handle the kids. Rine stirred in Akashi's arms, and his eyes lit up as he saw her attempting to reach for his face. "Aren't you the tiniest of sweethearts?" The words would just always keep coming when it came to his family. The silliest, the corniest and most vulnerable of words that oozed straight out of his heart and passed through his mouth without his brains properly sorting them through and putting them eloquently. Because that is how much he loved them. Without reserve or restraint. "Hey dad, can I try to teach Rine again?" Shio asked, it had became a pastime of his, to educate his younger sister. His son loved being a big brother after years of teasing by Umi for being the younger one and he enjoyed teaching Rine many things, from colours to animals. It made Akashi warm to know, his son was such a sweet gentleman already. He would have no worries in that departement, at least. "Oh! Can we ride the horses then dad?" Umi pleaded, as she attempted her best puppy look. Akashi melted. "Fine, let me ask Tamamura-san to keep an eye on Shio and Rine for if they need anything first."

Umi was proudly galloping around the field behind their home with her young, noble steed Akatsuki. He was pretending to be her royal bodyguard as she was on a quest to find a magical flower that would lift the spirit of the poor queen who had been attacked by poisonous goo. In other words, a flower for you after the babyfood incident earlier at breakfast. Akashi truly felt blessed to have such sweet kids. Whilst he liked to think he contributed to some of that, they were undoubtedly shaped by your kind love. As he rode Yozora, the mare he had gotten after Yukimaru's death, he watched as his daughter stop all of a sudden. "There!" She pointed with her finger, at rosebush that was particularly vibrant of your f/c. "The magical joyleaf has been found!" She declared proudly, and he got off Yozora. He assisted Umi off of her horse and allowed her to pick the prettiest one. "That one dad!" She tugged his sleeve, pointing at one which was practically perfect in condition, not a petal out of place. With a bit of effort to avoid the thorns, he plucked the flower. "Let us bring it back to the castle, milady." "Yes we shall!" His daughter cheered excitedly, and Akashi felt like the heavens had blessed him. He was a fortunate man, but not because of his riches. The Akashi family loved one another withour reserve, or restraint. Their love was absolute.

There were many things that Yozora expected when he woke up that morning. Training with his dads, maybe going off world with either of them or Aegis and Magia or maybe it would’ve been a quiet day! Just a day for himself to wander around Quadratum. That was thrown out the window when he saw a news broadcast of a monster, looking eerily similar to the heartless his dads talked about fighting, and then the headline stated, “Young man with a giant key fights off the monster that appears in downtown Quadratum!”

So… yeah he was with a younger version of his dad now. Sora was staying with Strelitzia and they were working on a way to get him back to his own world. That he could do. Sure a wrench or two were consistently being thrown into that plan when the younger version of Riku then showed up followed by his actual dads coming back from where they were off world! But that he could handle! Kind of! He was handling it just fine. What he could not handle… was the younger version of Riku in his spirit form.

Now… his pa (Sora) had told him that dad (Riku) had some trouble controlling the form when they were younger. He wasn’t sure when his dad had gotten a better grasp on it so the few times he’d seen the form growing up, he was in control of his actions for the most part, there were few things that he’d do that pa would embarrass him about later (though he would still find a way to without a doubt)

He’d woken up like normal, after that mess had been settled, terrible bedhead and all that caused it to spike up in random directions. Noise from outside had caught his attention and upon exiting he saw the younger Riku in his spirit form. Again not a big deal but the second Riku’s star-shaped eyes locked with him, Yozora felt the deep rooted instinct of fight-or-flight flare up and he turned to run back inside because where was Sora, why was Riku in his spirit form- he was bowled over none too gently by the giant komory bat dream eater.

He felt the rumbling in Riku’s throat as he nuzzled his back and let out a pained huff, “Okay, Riku I get it, you’re happy to see me, which… better than the alternative… but can you please get off me you’re so much heavier than Meow Mori!” he groaned.

Riku, to absolutely no one’s surprise, did not listen to him. Because why would he like this, Sora was the only one who he’d listen to and Sora was still no where to be seen! A chuff of air further mussed his hair and he rolled his eyes, twisting his body to say something else when a tongue dragged across his forehead up to his hair. Wha… oh hell no, don’t tell him…!

“Riku! I don’t need a bath!” his petulant protests went unnoticed as Riku continued grooming his future child.

The only saving grace was that Aegis and Magia weren’t present because they’d never hear the end of it and then he’d be minus two friends. He continued trying to get out of Riku’s grip, only freezing when he heard muffled giggles from behind him. He craned his head backwards and was greeted with the sight of the older Sora, pa, trying and failing to contain the snickers escaping from his mouth.

“Not… a word.”

“But Zozo!”

“But nothing pa!”

Pa covered his mouth, more muffled giggles coming out at the sight of the predicament Yozora was in as Riku’s tongue made his hair, arguably worse honestly, “Riku! You’re messing up my hair!” he groaned. Pa’s laughs were finally too much and he doubled over, holding his stomach. His dad laughing was fine, this was still better than-

“Aww baby dream eater’s bath time by daddy dream eater~!”

Two sets of laughter joined pa’s and Magia’s voice rang out clear, Yozora briefly wondering if he could suffocate himself in Riku’s mane. Finally he got one arm free and he frantically pat at Riku’s arm, “Okay, okay I’m clean! I’m clean!” he wriggled the rest of his body free and made to smooth his hair out. Once that was done he took a quick calming breath, spun on his heels and materialized his sword and crossbow, aiming them at his two, soon to be, ex-friends. Aegis and Magia both froze, wide grins still on their faces.

“Run.” all three said simultaneously, Aegis and Magia to each other and Yozora’s only warning before he ran after them. Pa could handle Riku’s spirit form for the time being, he had two friends to kill.

KH4(ish) wants and hopes

The following are just things I want and hope for in the future of KH and maybe others want and hope for similar and if not that's super valid.

More realistic wants

Sora to start unpacking all of his trauma This sweet baby boy has been through so much since the beginning of the franchise, but between back-to-back endless drama and constantly putting his own feelings aside for the sake of his friends, along with Donald and Goofy unintentionally instilling toxic positivity into him, he hasn't had ANY time to process any of it. Not to mention all the memories that have been buried down, during both CoM and even towards the end of KH3. He still genuinely believes that without his friends he's weak, so now that he's forced into Quadratum away from everyone, he'll get the chance to see how incorrect that is, which would then lead to him questioning more of his beliefs. I would say he'd see the truth in what Riku said to him before his sacrifice at the tear in KH3, but those are some of the memories he's lost. Essentially, what CoM was for Riku's growth, I want KH4 to be for Sora.

X-blade drama Sora was bequeathed the X-blade, his first formal bequeathment and now an actual keyblade of his own that wasn't meant for someone else. Now that it's in an "other side" I want to see literally any sufficient drama to happen involving the x-blade with Sora. Even if it's just him angsting over having it.

Potential ally Luxord At this point, it's all but confirmed that at the end of Re:Mind, Luxord's recompleted self is the one driving Yozora in the car. Now... I'll freely admit I just love Luxord and wanna see more of him. But knowing that he's also in Quadratum, and given his cryptic words upon his defeat in KH3, I don't think it's out of the question for him to help Sora out at some point. Considering Yozora's behavior thus far, I could see Luxord's recompleted self being another antagonistic force early on, turned ally.

Elrena and Lauriam reconnecting with Ven, and Namine is there Now that Larxene and Marluxia are recompleted, and given that Lauriam and Ven were vaguely close to each other in a coworker sense in Ux, I want them involved in bringing Ven's memories back. Naturally with Namine's help. I want Elrena to STILL be the girl that isn't overly sweet, since she's literally the only one, because that's something I love about her. But I also want them to give her stuff to do that isn't completely tied to Lauriam. Maybe even make it so Ven's memories hold some kind of key involving the foretellers so the drama on "this" side can continue to some degree without Sora.

More prevalent Namine Honestly, considering how strongly linked her powers have been to Sora, it seems silly that she hasn't been utilized in the search for him, as far as we know. Plus I'm sure she has more capabilities beyond that. Not to mention the amount of times Nomura has reiterated that the "Thank Namine" plotline is still incomplete. So I just need her to come back to being a primary character. I don't want her to be passive. And I JUST WANT HER TO BE HAPPY, OKAY!? She really deserves it.

Less Realistic Wants

Kairi growth game From the first game, Kairi has made it clear how averse to change she is, and that has been the biggest constant in what little character she's been given. My own belief is that's the reason she hyperfixates on Sora so much. Not because it's a crush, but just because holding onto this idea of how close they were before all the adventures started is easier than moving on and accepting all the changes for her. And honestly, she deserves better than that. So, this would ideally be an entire non-numbered game, but as part of her training under Aqua, I want her, Xion, and Namine (balanced, strength, and magic) to do their own journey through Disney worlds where a recurring theme in each world is accepting that change is inevitable and that it's okay. Along with varying bits to further Xion and Namine's own stories. And like how KH3 had moments where it would turn to Riku's perspective and let him be playable, Aqua would have that in this game. Aqua's side would be more about figuring things out about the foretellers. During these adventures, Kairi being a Princess of Heart would come back into play over the course of the story and give her more unique abilities, considering she's the only one of those princesses with a keyblade. After all that journeying, Aqua's Angels would end up actually helping Lea and Isa find that mysterious girl (Skuld) and it would not only be a step toward furthering the foreteller plot, but it would be a "oh, another person that's going to make things interesting for Ven when they meet" moment, given Ux.

Sora growth (cont'd) Okay, here's where I know I'll lose some people's interests... So, a lot of Riku's growth early on was accepting just how important Sora is to him and coming to grips with his jealousy and feelings. And he deserves major props for going through that. Sora, alongside canonically bisexual icon Strelitzia, is going to learn to admit similar things with regards to Riku. I don't think he's jealous of Riku, but he sure does care about him a lot. More than I think he realizes that would be on par with how much Riku cares for him. Instead of facing jealousy, though, while unpacking all of his traumas, he's finally going to have to come to grips with everything Riku did in KH1. Because he literally has not done that. I don't think it's going to be some over-dramatic angsty thing, I think it'll be more of a "Yeah... what he did really was messed up and I still don't know why. When I see him I'll wanna talk about it, but at least I know he's not like that anymore so that we can talk about it." And yes, I do firmly believe Soriku is going to be one of the ultimate plot points of the series and I'm not going to tackle why that is here. I just feel like Strelitzia is going to be pushing them together when she sees them.

I do have more wants, but I can't really think of how to expand on them, so I guess I'll just briefly list them here:

Either confirmation or further evidence to the necklace theory, ideally intertwined with the "Thank Namine" plotline.

Tied to above, I'd love if somehow the necklace is an emblem of the "Child of Destiny" brought up in Dark Road.

Kairi and Lea develop a friendly rivalry, constantly motivating each other to be better.

I do NOT want Hayner, Pence, and Olette to get keyblades and I'll honestly be super annoyed if they do. In my mind, it would be as foolish as giving Donald and Goofy keyblades, because these three have other strengths I'd love to see expanded upon.

Terra gets another Mark of Mastery exam, probably alongside any other characters that want it, but I'd want it from his perspective so we see him tackle more of his internal struggle with darkness and his time serving Xehanort.

Aqua with PTSD from her time in the Realm of Darkness. We already saw a glimpse of it in Re:Mind and I don't want it to get dropped.

Strelitzia actually fights and maybe even playable Strelitzia segments. We never actually saw her in combat in Ux, just saw her with her keyblade out. I can easily see her filling a similar role to Aerith in FFVIIR.

Ava. ...I just want something with Ava. Confirmation that she was Kairi's grandma, a mention of where she is now, anything. Literally I just want to know what's going on with her. Because unless she was Kairi's grandma, Luxu was the last one to see her, and that was FOREVER ago.

While Mickey's in Scala ad Caelum, there is confirmation that Riku, and possibly Kairi, originate from Scala ad Caelum. Or at least in Riku's case that his family originated from there, which leads to...

Riku is Ephemer's descendent, which I'm not going to go super into, but it would feed further into the necklace theory and would explain a LOT about him.

Ven and Roxas interactions... more than just a head nod at each other, please!

Xion and Namine friendship and I WANT TO SEE THEM BOTH HAPPY. Tie this into my Kairi growth game!

Utada makes another song based on Sora and Riku. We have confirmation Sanctuary/Passion is about them and their reunion in KH2, and analyzing the lyrics to Chikai/Don't Think Twice fits more with them than anyone else. So, more, please!

And then there's things I'd want from Missing Link, but that doesn't fit in here and I don't have enough wants to justify making a list...

yozora doesnt get along well with me or riku, im pretty sure hes a protector type role for my partner’s system, not my own. so he has some beef with us (because we often upset prom/etc even if its not on purpose)

hiccup and i are working on it. i dont know if he would consider us friends yet but i guess im hesitant too. but id love to be his friend and work on making things up to him

Minase glanced sideways at Yozora who was next to him. It must be the first time Yozora has heard Hibiki sing live.

Yozora stared at the stage. The large eyes that were embedded in his handsome face widened further and his pupils shone with illumination. It wasn't just a physical reflection, but it seemed as if Hibiki's song spilled out a glow from Yozora.

Minase remembered the sparkle in Yozora's eyes when he was in contact with the music. The brilliance of enjoying the sound from the bottom of his heart when he danced with his fingers on the keyboard.

It was a brilliance that Minase could never spill.

Hibiki's singing voice echoed within the box that confined the passionate humans.

― You, who was supposed to become someone famous.

― Blessings for a nobody now.

Hibiki's voice sweetly sang forgiveness and blessing in a rock melody. It is one of Hibiki's most popular numbers. The sound is loud and cool, but if you listen carefully you can feel the love in the lyrics.

Before a brilliant presence like Hibiki, the sweet illusion of being recognized and blessed for who you are, permeated the essence through the magical power of melody and voice.

Minase, who had been unable to become anything else, also felt the sensation of Hibiki's singing voice caressing the soft part of his heart.

"Well then, good luck with your live performance!"

"Oh, thanks!"

"Good job."

After the concert, the three of them had a small party at a Chinese restaurant. The beer glasses rattled and rattled.

"How is everyone in the band?"

"All of our members are freelancers, so unless it's a big concert, we don't do things like party together. Yasushi has work tomorrow morning."

Hibiki said that, purring and drinking beer.

"Hibiki's concert was great, right?"

Yozora looked away as Minase smiled at Yozora. He could no longer see the twinkle in Hibiki's eyes that he had when he listened intently to Hibiki's song, but Minase certainly witnessed the moment his heart raced.

"Well, you're a better musician than I thought."

Pretending to say that dryly, Yozora said that, but Hibiki leaned towards Yozora, smiling as expected.

"What? Yozora, did you fall in love again when you saw me sing?"

"I'm not in love in the first place."

"Do you feel like doing a song for me and falling in love again?"

"No, I'm not in love."

"I fell in love with Yozora's song."

Yozora got stuck in the middle of the taunts for a moment as he inserted something that seemed to be his real intention. Thinking that that kind of thing was a cunning kind, Minase watched silently as he licked beer into his mouth.

For Yozora, who probably didn't know what to say, the food was brought out perfectly.

Simple and delicious ramen with the feeling of traditional Chinese noodles and pink fried rice lined up the table. The fried rice is said to be colored by the reddish roast pork with food coloring.

Hibiki, who seemed to be hungry after the concert, yelled

"Itadakimasu!", picked up his chopsticks and slurped his noodles vigorously. Minase followed.

When he drank the amber soup, the clear taste permeated his body and he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Hey, Yozora-kun, aren't you going to eat?"

When he looked to the side of him, Yozora looked at him without touching the food.

"No, I'm going to eat."

Yozora raised his chopsticks as he received Hibiki and Minase's glares. He pinched the noodles with his toothpick and brought them to his mouth. He raised a small voice and covered his mouth.

"Perhaps Yozora has a cat's tongue?"

He said an echo.

Yozora looked at Hibiki with teary eyes, still covering her mouth.

"...It's not a cat's tongue."

Yozora denied it for some reason, and Hibiki smiled happily, like a cat finding its prey.

"Hmm?"

"What's happening?"

"Nothing."

Mindful not to laugh at Minase, he poured cold water and offered it to Yozora. Hibiki enjoyed looking at Yozora with cold water in his mouth as if he was slowly chewing on it.

"Next time, make a proper fufufu before eating."

Hibiki teased Yozora with a sullen look on his face as he fell silent. Minase had loose cheeks.

"Now that I think about it, this is the first time the three of us have come to eat together."

Yozora was always serving behind the counter, so he didn't know he had cat's tongue (although he denies it).

Hibiki let out a mocking laugh, then smiled calmly and rested his chin.

"Well, I feel like we're old friends, but there's a lot we don't know about each other."

The feeling of being old acquaintances was nothing more than the illusion of a chance meeting ten years ago. Thinking about it again, he felt strange.

"Hey, why are Minase and Yozora working here?"

It seemed like casual small talk, and it was a pitch that asked him about the inner self of him.

Hibiki's line of sight turned to Minase. Minase picked up the fried rice with his chopsticks and put it in his mouth to gain time to think. Despite its strange pink appearance, it had a very mild flavor.

"At first, I thought that anything would be fine as long as I could become independent as soon as possible. My mother was the type of person who would impose her own ideal path on her children, so I wanted to get out of it and after I graduated from school high school, I thought maybe I should get a job in a proper place."

It was the first time he had told such a story. Both Hibiki and Yozora silently looked at Minase. Yozora, in particular, saw Minase's mother several times when he was a child. He guessed that he had some thoughts about it.

"However, I was discovered by a model after being photographed on the street, I wanted to increase my part-time job, so it seemed perfect, and while in high school, I became a model and admired the skills of a hairdresser and makeup artist I met there."

Minase laughed and looked at his own hands.

He hadn't seen Yozora for ten years until they met again a few months ago. But he had heard rumors about the wind. Yozora Kamijo, a promising young pianist, dropped out of the piano course at the Tokyo University of the Arts and disappeared.

Not that Minase didn't care about Yozora's half-life. But even after they meet again, he didn't ask.

Contrary to Minase's tension, Yozora opened his mouth without changing his expression.

"I think it's cool."

Yozora didn't mention anything about how he left the piano, that's all he said.

"Eh?"

Minase and Hibiki involuntarily raised their voices.

Yozora hesitantly blew on the noodles, which must have cooled by now, then took a sip and continued.

"At a bar in Shibuya that I happened to walk into, there was a bartender who would cater to any customer request. He responded to unreasonable requests like adding red bean paste to cocktails in a familiar way."

"Red bean paste in a cocktail...?"

"The person who ordered the red bean paste cocktail seemed satisfied with it, and I ordered a regular cocktail, which was also extremely delicious. Seeing him shaking the shaker in front of me was great, it felt like magic."

Yozora said that like a child and looked at his hands the same way Minase had before. Hands that are slightly larger than normal and have long, slender fingers that are blessed with the ability to play the piano.

Ten years ago, that day was Christmas. Hibiki, who was still in elementary school, came to eat at a fancy restaurant with his family to celebrate Christmas.

"Hey. Is there something there?"

He showed his back with his chin. There was a grand piano behind a large window. Outside the window, the fir tree was decorated with glowing lights. Poinsettia pots were lined up around the piano, and there was an air that something was about to start.

"I have a piano recital at eight."

The shop clerk who had just come to pour cold water for Hibiki's table answered. It was certainly a restaurant run by a couple, he thought it was his wife.

"Is it played by a famous person?"

At Hibiki's frank question, the store staff chuckled.

"No, but I'm sure he'll be a famous pianist in ten years. He's the son of an acquaintance and he's only fifteen."

"What's wrong, is he a boy?"

"You cannot say that."

Hibiki's father lightly threw a fist on Hibiki's head and apologized to the shopkeeper. Hibiki thought that he would let his friend's son play the piano. Instead of "making him play", he believed it was simply "letting him play".

"What song will he play?"

"It's an original song. He composes it too. I heard it and it was so beautiful that I asked him to play it in our store for Christmas."

"Oh."

For the first time, Hibiki's heart moved a little. There were many people around him who were learning to play the piano, but someone who could compose his own music deserved to be recognized by Hibiki.

At 8:00, Hibiki and his family had finished eating the ice cream for dessert, but since they had a chance to listen to the piano, his parents had another glass of wine and Hibiki and his sister had another glass of juice.

Parents and children were sitting in the seats closest to the piano. A mother and a child of the same age or a little younger than Hibiki, that was Minase in his childhood.

Yozora appeared from the back of the store at the same time as the store clock said eight o'clock. Fifteen-year-old Yozora looked mature compared to Hibiki at the time and had a neat and well-organized face.

When Yozora arrived at the piano, he bowed to the guests and sat down without saying a word.

Chewing on the straw of his orange juice, Hibiki glanced at the television that was on aimlessly.

Suddenly, a sound danced in the air.

Hibiki could feel it. Various colorful sounds flew through the air and he thought they were dancing. He opened his mouth and the straw he was chewing fell into the orange juice.

A bit of sadness was suddenly mixed into the upbeat beat that made the listener want to dance. The sadness gradually grew, and suddenly turned into anger, causing Hibiki's body to tremble. The next instant, his anger erupted and glowed, after glowing, vanished.

Hibiki immersed himself wholeheartedly in Yozora's music, heightening his senses to his touch, as if his entire body was listening. Rather than listen to it, he felt that bathing in it would be more appropriate.

Yozora played one song after another, and before he knew it, about 40 minutes had passed. During that time, there was about a third of Hibiki's orange juice left, and the ice had melted and diluted it.

After finishing the last song, Yozora bowed his head in thanks to the loud applause and returned to the back of the store without saying a word until the end.

Hibiki's heart was pounding and it felt like something he didn't know had awakened deep within him.

It was incredible. He guessed that he was a genius. Within ten years, he was sure that he would be a real celebrity.

He felt that he could hear the voices of his family saying that from somewhere far away.

"As expected of Yozora-kun. Minase, do your best not to lose to Yozora-kun."

Only the voice of the woman sitting closest to the piano strangely reached Hibiki. That's right, he found out that the pianist's name was Yozora.

He remembered the starry sky he had seen one night in camp and thought it was an appropriate name.

"Minase?"

The woman said the name of his son. Minase stared at the empty piano with a somewhat distracted face.

"I'm going to say hello to Yozora-kun."

Minase said that and stood up. Seeing his back, Hibiki involuntarily stood up and chased after Minase.

"Hey!"

As he entered the backyard, he caught up with him and Hibiki stopped Minase. Minase tilted his head fully and looked at Hibiki curiously.

"Are you friends with the person who just played the piano?"

"Friends... Yozora-kun and I are taking lessons from the same piano teacher."

"Ah, you also play the piano!"

Hibiki was completely captivated by Yozora's performance, He also respect Minase for being able to play the piano.

"I am Hibiki Aisaka. What is your name?"

"...Minase Rui."

"Rui? It's a cake name. How do you spell it?"

"You have a good eye."

A Kanji came to his mind, but it was a character that was not in the knowledge of a sixth grader.

Minase laughed a little as if he was worried.

"The kanji reads as Minase."

After saying that...

"More importantly, what happened? Do you have something to do with Yozora-kun?"

Hibiki had nothing to do until he asked that. He just chased after Minase with the need to talk to him, who could compose such a great song and really enjoyed playing it.

However, the moment Minase asked, suddenly a determination and a message for Yozora welled up in Hibiki.

"Yes. A matter. So let me see Yozora."

Minase stared at Hibiki for about two seconds, and without hearing anything else, he took Hibiki and knocked on the door that said "STAFF ONLY".

"Yozora-kun."

Opening the door, Minase called out to Yozora, who took off his bow tie and smiled. He was different from the cold face before and after playing the piano, and the lively face while he was playing the piano, it was a natural smile when he pretended to be the older brother of a younger child.

"Minase. Thanks for coming. I played a lot of the songs you said you liked earlier."

"You've improved even more since the last time I heard you. I think it was because you played in front of a lot of people. It sounded like you were really having fun, and the sound was dancing... I was moved."

Minase grabbed his chest tightly and said that. Yozora smiled sheepishly, then noticed Hibiki's presence.

"What about that kid? A friend?"

"Ah. We just met. Yozora-kun, he has something to tell you."

Minase stepped to the side to give Hibiki space. Hibiki puffed out his chest and looked towards Yozora saying…

"I'm going to play music!"

Yozora's eyes widened slightly at Hibiki's statement and nodded slightly.

"Ah. I'm glad you thought so after hearing the piano just now."

"Then that's why! Make a song for me someday!"

Yozora rolled his eyes this time. Looking at Hibiki's face. Hibiki said that as he made eye contact with Yozora.

"Because I really understood that music is fun, that it can entertain people, excite them and make them feel all kinds of things. So I'll make music. Then when I can make music that makes people feel different, make me a song."
