Nobody knows why it’s so hard to make eye contact with the Princess. Perhaps its because she’s royalty. Perhaps its something else….
I’ve always been taken with the idea that Zelda/Hylia is a very eldritch-type being; a favorite hc of mine is that after Link acquires the Sword he is able to see the divinity that envelopes Zelda’s every move. He is dutiful not because of his orders but because of her divine nature. It’s hard to disobey someone when you can see the presence of a god lingering around them always.
*DO NOT TAG AS ZELINK.

Why am I such a sucker for occult and religious themes in media?
I'm a big fan of Pokémon, which has like 50-90 literal gods in it (I stopped keeping count)
My favorite game of all time, Hollow Knight, has a massive religious theme on display.
My third favorite game, the one this blog is about, is based around running a cult and murdering the followers of immoral gods.
My favorite horror franchise, Bendy, has a massive occult theme. Also, my favorite character from said franchise is Sammy Lawrence, A character who treats the main antagonist, who is a demon, as a god to be worshipped, (He also says my favorite line in anything ever "I said, can I get an amen.") And two of the characters are in the forms of angels, only one of which actually being worthy of said title though.
I adore The Legend of Zelda, and BOY do they mention The Godess Hylia a lot.
My favorite show pilot is Ramshackle (major spoilers btw) which has a literal BIBLICALLY ACCURATE ANGEL at the end.
I'm a ginormous fan of Spooky Month, which has a cult that worships a giant tentacle monster that works as the shows looming threat
And my only fictional crush used to worship the god of chaos and is named after an ars goetia demon.
Speaking of ars goetia, Helluva Boss is one of my favorite shows of all time (so far) and so is Hazbin Hotel
Why am I like this

I really really think the big bad in this game is gonna be Demise. Starting with the strongest points:
1. Demise was sealed inside the Master Sword, which is now destroyed.
2. Demise is Ganon’s source in the same way that Hylia is Zelda and Link’s, so he’s the next in the evil chain of command so to speak.
3. Demise is supposedly the source of all monsters, which makes the power of the blood moon make a lot more narrative sense.
4. The endless cycle in the series is, at its core, the conflict between Hylia and Demise and seems to be the theme of this game based on the not-quite-ouroboros symbol.
5. Typically, Ganon loses some amount of cognizance/sentience every time he’s resurrected and devolves further into his rage, so it’s incredibly unlikely that he would be resurrected into a form that could be fully aware and speaking.
Also I think it would be spooky and cool if he was the big bad and was possessing Ganon’s body

Ruminations on the Sheikah
I think the Sheikah are really cool and I love that they've been expanding on the concept since Ocarina of Time.
Tumblr media
So, at first we had Impa, and we get the impression that she's just Princess Zelda's nanny, but they tell us that she's part of the shadowy group that protects the Royal Family. In OoT, it feels like a tacked on background.
Tumblr media
"Sure! You're a badass ninja, or whatever! You totally torture people and this isn't just Nintendo making a spooky dungeon full of zombies. It TOTALLY fits, blah blah blah."
Obviously, I'm being disingenuous. But Nintendo DID build it up.
In Twilight Princess, we see that they DO have a Hidden Village (a la Naruto) for themselves. And basically, the whole village of ninja disappear when their location has been exposed.
Tumblr media
Next we have Impa in Skyward Sword. The Goddess Hylia rose up most of the people into the Sky to protect them. It's possible that the Sheikah also had a village in the sky, but we know that this Impa was tasked with protecting Zelda because she is the reincarnation of Goddess Hylia.
(I know that's technically just a theory... but it would make the most sense.)
So, this clearly establishes the origin of the relationship between the Sheikah and the Hyrule Royal Family. The Sheikah see themselves as the servants of Hylia, so serving the Royal Family is a central point of their culture. In the darkest times, like in the time of Demise, Hylia tasked them to be protectors, and they've been carrying that task forward.
Tumblr media
Finally, in Breath of the Wild, we get to see a whole village of Sheikah. And we get to see their normal cultural style leans very Japanese. That's how much dedication they have for their roles as hidden protectors. They only wear Kimonos amongst themselves. They adopt "Western style" clothing to blend in with the other Hylians.
(Btw, did you ever notice Impaz from TP also wears a Kimono? Some should draw Impa from Oracle of Ages and Ocarina of Time wearing the white Kimonos like Breath of the Wild.)
Tumblr media
Finally, I should mention the Yiga.
I think it's fascinating to think that Sheikah had a schism. As part of their devotion to Goddess Hylia and the Royal Family, they were asked to abandon the Advanced Technology that the Sheikah used. (Remember that there were Robots as far back as Skyward Sword). And some of them thought this was asking too much, so they abandoned their faith, and started acting like swords for hire.

LINKED UNIVERSE HEADCANONS BECAUSE FUCK YOU
(mostly wild, time, twilight, sky, and wind centric cuz those are the main games i've played)
they're all trans
people think that time is the dad of the group but nah. it's twilight
four uses "we/us" pronouns (they/them but actually plural)
wild will either cook the most delicious fucking food you've ever seen in your goddamn life or a pile of rocks (canon)
wind can see ghosts. they all know this. however, sometimes he'll say that there's a spooky ghost when there's not just to freak them out (wild knows. he doesn't say shit bc it's funny)
sky can cook one (1) dish and it's pumpkin soup (he learned after he had to work at the lumpy pumpkin to repay them for breaking shit) (everything else he makes is inedible)
most of them are nonverbal (bc autism and also ptsd)
you'd think that time knows sign language but NO because he grew up in a forest around fairies who don't have? visible hands?? i think?? (he learns sign from wild)
also i've seen people say that time Doesn't Cuss which is simply Not True. let him say fuck. he deserves to say fuck.
the only one of them who doesn't cuss is probably sky. but there are exceptions
actually no i take it back. that fucker says fuck too
All Of Them Should Say Swear Words
please they're so tired just let them say fuck
the ones who have a hookshot are ecstatic to tell the ones without a hookshot about the joys of using it (ex: sky showing it off to wild, who has stars in his eyes, talking about how it'd make climbing in the rain so much easier)
speaking of sky and wild- the realize that there's a merchant named beetle in both of their eras. weird as shit. sky is like "wtf" but wild kinda just nods and goes "yeah okay why not sounds about right tbh"
nightmares
nightmares
have i mentioned nightmares? because they all have nightmares
also nearly all of them have had Queer Encounters and they vent about it!!
sky talking about how ghiriham was UNFAIRLY hot
twilight still sad over midna :( (they're gay btw don't question it they just are)
(wind is an exception bc. he's a fuckin child)
wild lowkey bein like "yeah tbh.... ganondorf before he was mummified?"
time has a wife. time loves his wife
wasn't there that one ship with hyrule/ravio?? haven't played that game so idk but they seem gay (edit: oop it was legend/ravio not hyrule/ravio lololol)
fuck what was this post about again?
they all sleep with a weapon under their pillow (or with no pillow!! just weapon! :] )
some of them (sky) are very heavy sleepers while others (time) are very light sleepers
it's a nice balance because twilight and wild will wake up at the ass crack of dawn and then wind won't wake up until noon. they make a schedule
people also portray them as being So Fucking Awkward but i disagree. have you PLAYED a zelda game? these fuckers will waltz into town, fix every single person's problems, and become the new village icon in the span of two hours. they're so fucking friendly omfg
like these fuckers have fought MONSTERS they've fought DRAGONS and CORPSES and the KING OF EVIL they ain't afraid of a little human interaction (except when they are)
hylia will throw them in a room together and they'll all be like "hi!! :] am link i go hyah" "omg no way me too!! :0 look at my shiny sword and my bag of bombs" "sick"
sky would be like so fucking guilty like "im sorry i failed and got cursed by a demon king guys :(((" and everyone else would be like "oh nah don't even worry about it lmao happens to all of us"
maybe i'll make a pt 2 once i finish my homework who knows

Hyrule first contact
So I just had a brainwave about an idea I've had on the backburner for a while now: a Star trek/Zelda crossover heavily inspired by the TNG episode First Contact.
(The basic plot of the episode is: a race of humanoids have developed warp-capable technology. The federation shows up to them as a courtesy gesture, basically going "hey, you've got warp! Nice! Just a heads up that there's a lot of stuff out there and we are one of the nicer groups you're going to encounter. Here's a heads up about a bunch of things you should maybe be aware of". And of course, shenanigans ensue)
My thought is: The planet Hyrule is on is in the Gamma quadrant. Sometime post-tears of the kingdom, Zelda and the research teams have developed warp-capacity travel. (Maybe through the rediscovery of some ancient zonai or sheikah tech) (I haven't finished the game yet so please don't mention spoilers I will be very sad!!)
Throughout the development of this warp capacity travel, the Federation takes notice. There's some weird-ass energy signals coming from this planet near the wormhole between the alpha and gamma quadrants, and so they do some covert research. Eventually they reveal themselves, cue many excited technobabble conversations between Zelda and the Federation teams.
Fun things about this: Hylia and the Golden Three could be the very same entities as the Prophets. Because the prophets exist outside of time, it would lend itself well to all the time travel shenanigans and strange devices that the gods have left Hyrule (just like Bajor gets the Orbs, Hyrule has Tears, the master sword, etc). Also, could help explain the fractured timeline - the prophets just being like "a linear temporal existence? what is this?"
I also like the idea that they're blissfully ignorant of the Dominion, because the Founders took one look at the cursed shit going down in Hyrule and went "fuck nope. We're the only spooky goop that we want to deal with. DNI with that planet."
Is Demise a pah-wraith??
Think of the shenanigans that could ensue if Gul Dukat ever met Ganondorf.
Bashir and Jadzia getting up to incredible mischief.
Sisko panicking because oh my GOD am I now the Emissary to these people too???? And Zelda being like nah I think that's my job, you're good man.
I might loop in some TNG characters as well just because I wanna see Purah and Robbie losing their entire shit over Data.
Garak being generally impressed by the Sheikah, especially some of the nastier stuff in their history.
Setting would be pre-dominion war.
Anyways that's all I've got for now, we'll see if this thing gets written someday! If you have any ideas I would love to hear them.

okay so if i make myself a Dink (dark Link) i would want to make him a version of one of the links that doesn't have a Dink (so not Hero or Gish, or even Huntress or General/ Linkle, or Guardian (maiiced Guaridan counts as a dark link in my eyes))
My first instinct is to give the dink to Sage, not just because they are my blorbo but bc it's easy for my to come up with an idea as to how the dink was made. So maybe Rauru actually removed Links arm (implied to be the case as he mentioned that he had to 'replace' it in his dialogue) and that arm fell into the depths. So all that gloom with the DNA of the hero grew into something that woke up thinking it was the hero (maybe it had made it's way to the secret underground springs under the shrine of resurrection where it was reborn), so in the depths, there's this being that thinks it's the hero just trying to find Zelda and a way out. I could see Sage coming across them while doing the stuff for the spirit temple or even in the depths below the lost woods. (bc it's made of Gloom it may not even be able to leave the depths... who knows I'm just brainstorming lol)
But if I really wanted to lean into the whole 'made to protect the triforce' thing, I could have it be something that King or Queen (sksw Zelink) made after their adventures as a way to protect both the triforce and the Master Sword. That would give my Dink a reason to even have a 'dark' Master Sword that isn't really dark. (It's not evil, just in a different color palette to match Dink's vibe) It likely would know that it's not the same person as Link, and is a creature made by Hylia, likely out of the remnants of dark magic that either Girahim left behind or pieces of the imprisoned that were shed. I love the whole vibe of making something good out of something pure evil. (It's aesthetic would likely include some gold/light/prismatic elements rather than just black gray and red, due to being a creation of Hylia)
I could also have the Dink from the child timeline who has been waiting in the water temple for a hero that would never come, so eventually, he just leaves, and as he's still connected to Hero, he has the same yearning for a normal life but he's also too spooky to be seen around so he's just sadly walking around the woods being all soggy. (I'm gonna be honest here idk if it has lore in tp and I'm thinking about putting some distance between those two stories anyway aka the Heroes Shade is not the Hero of Time, she's just a badass who is in between the family line at some point who had a bad time)
Or I could always just make a guy that I can drop anywhere in the timeline and fuck around and do whatever I want with.

ok im playing more zelda!! i feel awful this is literally all i can do rn
you know i miss the match over bell from botw. it was so good
FAIRIES IN THIS CAVE...thank god
i fucking hate this place btw. rauru's settlement or whatever. i hate bottomless bogs
i guess in regards to gameplay it's not that different than lava - more forgiving, even! lava kills you instantly and sometimes you can fight your way out of a bog! - but it FEELS worse. it's uglier for one thing
i'm really close to the lost woods so i'm gonna see if i can navigate it without a torch! since i can see the wind blowing. i have so many korok seeds to trade in lol
took me one false start but i made it! i just had to walk veeery slowly lol
MAXED OUT my weapon storage already. damn.
going to check out a tiny chasm i've been eyeballing forever. i deserve a break
i used to feel so nervous being this close to hyrule castle in botw...the hills between it and the lost woods...it's not as bad in totk although i am still hugging the water. i don't want the music to play lol
fucking korok seed i was supposed to get by starting a fire and using a pinecone to go straight up. it was raining. i had to make the most convoluted structure out of dead trees it took FOREVERRR
how exciting!! after awhile away from the depths i land right on top of a yiga camp AND i can see an easy lightroot from here. a gentle reintroduction
ooh, this book talks about lights that appear and then vanish....that's fucking spooky. i hope they dont mean hands lol
ive been wanting to try "hoverbikes" that ive heard about and theres some fans here, so
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OH THIS IS THE MOST FUN IVE EVER HAD. WOW
ok my bike died but for a test run that was NOT bad
this area is all explored except this one dark spot that i've just now lit up...i'll grab a few poes and go somewhere else
i'm gonna go to goron city and buy my stupid fire helmet. i swear if i don't kill that gleeok on lake hylia i'll die
oh! i found the goron brothers house! kabetta's diary...
uh oh, it's his marbled rock roast descent
ooh, i found the sidequest to get a boulder breaker!!
where tf do i get a cobble crusher these days i wonder...
god i forgot how fun minecarts are. i saw one of the oldstyle ones on my way by...
kilton's balloon! or um. whoever he is lol <3 i have TOOOONS of gems to trade
it's not the same here without the lava, but at least there's lava in the caves...
these mine cart tracks were RIDICLOUS. i got SO STUCK lol
i see dinraAl but im too close to the ground 😭
OOOOHHHHH maybe i can use a hoverbike.....i gotta finish this fight first lol
GOT A COBBLE CRUSHER.....oh man i almost LEFT these guys to go chase dinraal!!!
ok ok gotta hurry
so, this bike doesn't control as well as i';'d like...maybe i need practice...and of course i wish it was faster...but it's still REALLY cool
my battery keeps dying/my bike keeps falling :( i give up
ugh i have so much anxiety about dragon parts.
VAH RUDANIA HELM??????? HELLOOOOOO
oh my god...i didnt even have this in botw, i dont have the amiibo card....................
aw i found some monster forces guys. of COURSE im gonna help them
OH we still get the bell after monster forces battles...good
NO FUCK AND THEY JUST LEFT. AND THERE'S ABOUT TO BE A BLOOD MOON LOL
i didnt get all my loot yet!! no one to help me when they come back!! im gonna die!!!
im not leaving w/o my Loot. i'll just have to do it on my own. thank god i have muddlebuds
GEEZ i did it. double loot
i can see the edge of the map! that sort of thing always did fascinate me...some of the textures are warped here lol that's creepy
ok, i looked it up and apparently i made my hoverbike wrong. im gonna try again w proper instruction!!
ok, new bike got me up to the top of gut check rock...it still has too much forward momentum for me, but i've seen a couple of different designs i wanna experiment with when i have more fans (currently only have 2 left in inventory)
i miss the goron blood brothers :( i mean it's so depressing that there's nothing up here but a korok seed...
ANOTHER EVENTIDE SHRINE. FUCK ME SIDEWAYS i hate this bs!!!
ok fine that wasnt that bad. STILL
bike is LOTS harder to control with a korok on the back. i like of like the counterweight though to help with too much momentum...
the bike lists to one side! i definitely just need to improve my fan placement
woke up the horse god. JUST as unsettling as i remember.
omg the yiga hideouts REFILL after long enough. rip!
decided to fight the pirates while i was here. "monster forces"...hope i'm not supposed to be teaming up with anyone for this lol
i accidentally hit my bike during combat and it went over the side of the boat 😭 i can make another and i was gonna fast travel after this anyway but STILL......
AUGH it's dinraal again and once again i can't chase her...i know how to do the bike now but i don't have it and also i'm busy!!!!! ugh
248 korok seeds!! officially time for bed - when i started today i was somewhere in the mid 100s lol
i thought i wouldn't play enough tonight to need to make multiple posts but i guess i should have broken this one up, huh? whoops!

LoZ - Library of Nayru Dungeon Idea
Honestly? Why don't we see many grand, outstanding libraries in Zelda?
I actually kinda wanna see a massive library for a dungeon, but more of an unconventional one as there might be npcs milling about. At least, in the earlier sections. Sort of a Library of Alexandra thing. Or Wan Shi Tong's from AtLA.
OR, being the Goddess of Wisdom, the Library of Nayru? Possibly even built or simply blessed by the goddess herself? A means for all of Hyrule's history to never be truly forgotten as knowledge is something she values highly.
Perhaps it's part dungeon, part place you have to return to repeatedly to search for new information? Like, you keep unlocking new sections of the Library as you go.
Imagine secret passages with book-based puzzles. Like having to figure out where certain books or scrolls go or having to arrange the books/scrolls in a shelf in just such a way as to reveal a hidden message on the spines or something. And riddles. So many riddles!
Maybe even some cipher puzzles. Also, having to learn to read each of the many different alphabets & languages of Hyrule throughout history.
What if anything beyond a certain point requires a mastery of the Mind's Eye? Specifically, the Mind's Eye. Neither the Mask of Truth nor the Lense of Truth will work.
Perhaps they figure this out by Purah's new invention? A pair of Goggles of Truth. It works for a couple parts of the Library, but after a point, Link & Zelda can go no further. Thus leading to Link having to learn the actual technique.
Maybe the Link of this one could specifically be part Sheikah for this reason?!
Anyway, it'd be a sort of ancient library that started as something small, but as time passed & more of the games passed, more was added, becoming bigger & bigger...
What if it was located beneath the Ruins of the Temple of Time?
I also really want a scene where Link & Zelda find this huge book titled "The Second Coming of Hyrule" or something. And as they read more, they realize that they are reading about how the Zonai King, Rauru, founded Hyrule, but as they read it, they realize that instead of "founded," the book uses the word "refounded." Which causes Zelda to put together that there was another Hyrule before theirs & that this meant that at least some of the old myths might be true. Then she speculates on which ones.
However, she then seems to realize something else & flips the book to the final page to find it all blank, then turns back until she finds that there is a half-filled page describing this exact scene & that, as she read the words aloud, the book was filling out with shinning ink as if being written by an invisible quill.
Which was spooky, yet incredible at the same time.
And what if we see a large number of references to books & accounts from old games via the books & pictures?
Sometimes just as passages in said books, but others as actual books from previous games.
And not just featuring them in a historical way, but also in the forms of poetry & epics much like the Odyssey. Even weapons & shields & armor on pedestals & stands.
Also, every section of the Library features one of the games as the central focus. Eventually ending, not with Skyward Sword, but even before that. No, not even the story of Demise's original sealing (which we still haven't gotten yet). Books being replaced with scrolls, then later tablets & tapestries. As well as murals of epic battles. Even the windows display images of the past. Even little statues & busts of important figures from certain time periods. Not to mention pottery.
With even an entire Gerudo dictionary. Though, not as something you could actually read in the game. Just as a description of a book with maybe some new words.
Finally, at the end of it all. A depiction of the story of the 3 golden goddesses creating Hyrule, followed by the stories of their 3 (4 if you go by my hc) respective children.
Of how Demise came to be. Of Hylia taking on the responsibility of patron. Of a mysterious 3rd deity only ever seen hint of once before.
Of a cocky young god, son of Din, raised by his father in a land in a constant state of war, given the role of patron that resulted in him being corrupted by his own thirst for power; losing his godhood by falling from grace to become a fearsome arch-demon. Of a young, gentle, golden-hearted god, son of Farore, who was tasked with replacing the previous failed patron, but realized that some people will simply not be reasoned with without force; at times, not even then. Thus, he solemnly took up arms to protect the people under his care. Now a god of divine retribution.
And of the young, scholarly goddess, daughter of Nayru, who was horrified by the dark & fearsome being that the golden-hearted had become, tasked with being his replacement, only for the son of Farore to continue to protect the land & it's people regardless.
The 2's subsequent marriage, then finally, the tragic god's sacrifice for the sake of all in order to stop the Son of Din in order to provide a hero who could use the Triforce to defeat the Fallen God, the Demon King, followed closely by his wife.

won't somebody help me come and dig up a grave 👀
hehe this one is the title of my Frankenstein AU! i've talked about this one a bit before, but as a refresher:
Zelda, a college dropout who had almost completed her biology major before her abrupt exit, is now working towards bigger and better goals: building her own family from scratch. Literally. With the gravedigging assistance of her himbo lover, Link, Zelda is stitching together the body parts and preparing the procedure that will bring Terrako back to life.
this one was originally for the Hateno Hideout October prompt "Spellbound", repurposed for the prompt "the Witching Hour" when i realized i would not be able to complete it in time, and is now waiting for next spooky season!
a cheeky sneak peek:
It was those times that she ran to meet Link that she most regretted the elaborate system of concealment she’d built for herself. Any second added to her mad dash was a second she wanted no part of. She simply wanted to be by his side.…And also to collect the parcel that would be waiting there.  Eleventh step cleared with a strategic hop on the very front left corner, Zelda launched herself with abandon down the last three. Shock rippled in her knees from the impact but she paid it no mind. She was young and spry and her joints, unlike Terrako’s, were in perfect condition. The wind of her passage set the sheet protecting Terrako’s dignity aflutter as she passed his table, and she skittered to a halt in front of the cellar door before throwing it open. And there Link stood, blinking owlishly at the suddenness of her appearance.  Hylia, but he was beautiful. The amount of time she spent scrutinizing corpses had given Zelda quite the eye for the human form, and Link was the most perfect specimen that she would never, ever dare to ruin. She loved his compact, strong frame, his capable hands, his perpetually messy ponytail. She loved the dirt stuck under his square nails. “Link,” she sighed, and leaned forward for a kiss. His lips met hers enthusiastically, and when their mouths parted with a wet sound he smiled giddily in a way that made her heartbeat pick up even beyond the speed her midnight sprint had raised it to.

And voilà! Here's my second contribution for @atelierhylia , my study of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's Portrait de Mademoiselle Marcelle Lender, starring the one and only Great Fairy from Ocarina of Time! I chose her because her flamboyance is the only that can parallel a star of the Moulin Rouge (Mlle. Lender was a singer and dancer there). Just like the previous study, I made this illustration in mixed media.

Happy Halloween everyone!
I was honored to take part in @atelierhylia 's spooky special, The Blood Moon Tomes, with this piece, based in one of Ray Frederick Coyle's illustrations for the novel 'Jurgen: A Comedy of Justice' by James Branch Cabell (the illustrations were made in 1919, but the novel faced legal issues and was published later, in 1929, four years after Coyle's death).
I decided to choose Zelda and Ghirahim as subjects for this study because only the Demon Lord can pull the drama of the original image! It was fun to work with silhouettes and small details (I particularly loved drawing the details in Zelda's dress and the stained glass windows!)
Remember to download your free copy here, and enjoy every contributor's pieces!

Here is my first of the two contributions I made for @atelierhylia , a free zine devoted to Master studies!
My choice for this study was Picasso's Girl Before A Mirror. It was a good challenge to ditch proportions and formal training to pursue more abstract, geometric shapes, plus adapting the color palette to fit the characters.
Hilda and Zelda from a Link Between Worlds were a perfect choice, since paintings and parallels are themes in the game.
Check my Instagram for steps and process reels!

My #1 post of 2022
Tumblr media
I've been working on a more painterly way to digitally color my drawings (this one is a traditional one I already shared), and I feel I'm getting somewhere, yay!
This is Hylia, Golden Chain AU version - a more warlike iteration/redesign, considering she canonically went to battle as it was told in Skyward Sword!

Stuff I noticed genshin impact has in common with (mostly) breath of the wild, unsorted and in varying degrees of /srs and /j
Cell-shaded open world with burnable grass (mind you dendro only came out like 2 days ago while this was a thing since the very beginning)
Starting with a shot from a cliff overlooking the world and focusing on the big building in the distance (though that might be a general open world trope? I‘m not sure)
The hilichurl huts originally looked like the stone skulls bokoblins reside in
Hilichurls in general pretty much just being bokoblins minus the oni-based color coding (but + screwed up lore, wth hoyo)
Random instances of coming across NPC’s who have to be saved from monsters (something that, like most similarities, primarily applies to Mondstadt)
You can’t pet the dogs aside from feeding them but they still adorably look at you with their hopeful gaze, showering you with love you know you can never give back ;-;
Why fishing rod when jump in good for catch too
Ancient but advanced civilization that became ruined and forgotten prior to the events of the game due to a calamity, but you still find remnants of, also the mc is somehow connected to it but barely remembers anything aside from a few flashbacks
Protag and the other short blonde with super special powers get separated by the catastrophic event that made the world the way it currently is, protag‘s goal is to find them again and travels though the whole world to do so
Protag and the other short blonde with super special powers get completely screwed over by a deity (you choose if it’s Demise or Hylia seriously I know Zelda not awakening her powers early enough had nothing to do with Hylia but she could at least talk to the girl smh)
Giant ancient robot with a single glowing eye from said ruined civilization roaming the lands and exclusively targeting people to kill (also, ruin guards originally aimed at you with a beam before shooting lasers)
The ancient lost civilization has its own even more ancient lost civilization
Floating elemental wizard monster with a wand that can teleport around and has way too much fun messing with you (and Abyss mages sound similar to wizzrobes too)
The world may or may not be stuck in some sort of time loop
Balloon-like enemy that hides in the ground and pretends to be a plant only to jump out and attack you
Round elemental enemy slime that uses its own element as a semi-shield and basically just attacks by jumping at you (fire/water/ice/electro slimes = red/blue/light blue/green chu) yea I got nothing for anemo slimes
Blue dragon that used to be chill but got corrupted by weird poison goo blood from the monsters, said poison goo leaving the dragon discolored, your goal being to cleanse it from them
Snowy mountain area near start point where everything is super cold and you can practically only survive by lighting fires, drinkeating spicy soup, or eating all your dishes to keep the hp up
Look at Noelle‘s shield, now at Daruk‘s protection, now back to Noelle‘s shield. Her design themes are maid- knight - roses, why does it look like that
Cooking makes you indestructible and is (hilariously) usable mid-fight. Also mc is a cooking god for no reason
They tweaked the cooking animation by the time it launched but the beta one gave off major 2D botw cooking vibes
Monsters wanna kill you but so does the evil organisation from another country with pretty extreme weather, except half of them are kinda dorky when they’re not trying to murder you
The battle music is fire
Mineral that glows turquoise (granted it’s different shades but still-), is considered pretty rare, and is said to have obtained their glow though influences from the world (elements/souls)
Ghosts are real and sometimes they glow blue. The same shade of blue as the spooky glow mineral, no less
The ancient glowy eye robots drop their core as loot (they look a bit similar too)
Praying to statues of deities = upgrading your stamina by giving them enough of a certain collectible
Tiny cute magical wood forest creatures that can‘t be seen by most people who can be randomly found across the land and you get stuff for doing their mini quests
Said forest creatures living in a village in their magical forest that usually can’t be accessed to begin with because magic prevents that (granted the village gives off more Kokiri vibes than Korok but they’re just evolved kokiri anyways so-)
The original animation for climbing was pretty much just Link‘s
Land southwest of the starting area has a (seemingly) bottomless hole that leads into the abyss, literally, in both cases
Lamp grass = Blue nightshade, they look the same and even glow blue at night
Glaze lily = silent princess, white-blue lilies from ancient times that became incredibly rare over time and are now considered practically extinct in canon (but are pretty easy to find in-game)
Ancient structures that have been inaccessible and glowing in warm colors for centuries only turn blue though activation by the protag; they also function as teleport points
ancient structures incorporating star constellations
Ancient instrument used throughout the world to play Magic Songs learned across the land that each interact with designated objects/places in different ways; usually needing around 5-8 notes to play
Playable short king used to be part of a group of 5 with colorcoded powers but all his friends died a long time ago because of evil stuff and he‘s the only survivor ok this one‘s obviously not serious lmao
It ain’t botw but. Small travel companion who does all the talking to fill up the void by the gameplay- silent protag (genshin give Traveler a voice more often smh) and is also probably linked to the major story in some way (really tho, except for Navi every single companion has major ties to the plot in some way). Also I‘m pretty sure Paimon gets called a fairy at least once at one point?
More stuff probably
Interestingly enough, the most noticeably direct similarities can be found in Mondstadt (and Liyue) , aka the region that‘s been here since the very start of the game, and more importantly, before the game was launched.
TLDR it’s doing it’s own thing now for the most part but there’s no way this game didn’t start off "heavily influenced“ at the beginning lol
