I loooove listening to Ruze yap about worldbuilding
it scratches that certain itch in my brain
like yes, please do talk more about how dwarves function biologically
please tell me more about how languages change depending on the different races living around and with each other
give me the explanations for how dwarves have mines without actual wood
explain to me how each mascot fits realistically into this world(they all came out incredibly cool btw)
menshi is so worth it man

"I remember it clear as the South Sellish waters; it's not a day that any of us could forget. It was like any other, 'side from the ominous storm blown' in to port. All started with that ship and 'er damn cargo; "we can control it" they said, "impossible for it to escape the cage." They lied, though, that should be obvious to you. 'Twas one of them abominations of Geldan. One of the biggest I've seen, with claws long and sharp as a dagger, and wings as wide as a person is tall, and an oily hide of leather… Still haunts us who saw it to this day…"
A distant look fell across the Portmaster's face as he uttered those last words. "How did the Geld-Beast escape?" I asked, "I've read through all the available reports, but they're all vague and don't mention much."
The Portmaster jumped, as if he forgot I was there. "I was getting to that part lass, be patient." He shook his head, "youngins these days, always in a rush" he mutters. "I was close when it happened, though I still don't rightly know what 'appened. One moment the beast was snug in the cage, the next it was standing tall and free and releasing a soul chilling screech towards the 'eavens, already covered in the blood of the sailors moving the cage. That's when the rain and thunder started. All I could do was scramble away and scream for help. Not my proudest moment, but what else could I do?" He looked down, ashamed, before his face turned grave and serious. "The port guard arrived first, but were useless. None lasted three seconds" he whispered. Turning to look at me, he continued "The port archers atop the walls were next. They sighted the threat quick, but were of no help either. Best they could do was sound the alarm before dying. The rest of the port garrison was not much better, but least they kept the devil from attacking us citizens and bystanders. Didn't last long though; had no way to defend against impalement from that cursed beast. All that could be 'eard was the ungodly screeches of the creature and the screams of the dying. All that could be seen was corpses brutally ripped apart and half dead men with their guts spilling out and laying in large pools of blood and viscera. 'Least the heavy rain washed away some of the sight, and the strong thunder covered some screams… Course, things did change for the better eventually, else we wouldn't be 'ere now. SHE turned the tide single handedly. Took 'er damned time, but the Fortress Commander finally showed 'er face. Commander Zephyr emerged from the portcullis, and it seems as everything froze, and everyone stared at her. Even the devil paused. She walked down the road clad in 'er customary deep blue brigandage, giving the demon a glare that could freeze the sun. Brimming with visible, barely contained wrath, she wordlessly summoned 'er rapier and slowly raised it up to the demon in challenge. The beast screeched in response, but as fast as lightning, the Commander launched 'erselfe into the sky and sheared off one wing. The devil 'ad no time to react before it was sent to the ground, screaming in pain. Zephyr landed smoothly and gracefully, having summoned her greaves and boots while in the air. The two stood there then, staring and sizing the other up. The beast let loose another fell scream and charged, aiming a slash at the Commander's sword arm, but she effortlessly parried and dodged away. The beast gave chase and kept slashing and kicking and jumping at 'er, but she was always a step ahead blocking and dodging out of 'arms way. Thunder clapping each time blade and claw clashed. Before I knew it, the Commander had danced in a large circle around the beast, while it ended up in the same place it crashed, having gained no ground. Looking closely, I could see thin lines cut into the stones; she must 'ave cut them faster than the eye can see while dodging around. The demon took a quick step, as if to start charging again, but stopped and tilted it's 'ead curiously. Zephyr 'ad dropped 'er blade and let it melt to mist. Arcs of lightning started dancing quickly 'round the Commander's body as she addressed the beast."
"You have killed my soldiers. You have killed my friends." Zephyr said, filled with rage, "You have killed my pupils. And you have spilt all of their blood right in front of me, in the doorway of my own fortress. I demand retribution, and I WILL have it. May the gods judge you harshly and cast you back to Geldan's domain."
The Portmaster continued, with a wicked grin on his face. "After those words, the lightning flickering around 'er grew strong and bright. The Commander stomped a foot down on the lines she cut, and the gods threw down a massive bolt of lightning on the demon, at least fifteen feet wide and strong enough to melt the stone. The clap of thunder was strong 'nough to nearly deafen the entire island. Needless to say, the gods were as harsh as expected, and nothing of that foul beast was left, save the wing our Commander cut off. If you're lucky enough to get an appointment, you can find it mounted in 'er office, behind 'er desk and just to the side. Makes it seem that the wing is 'ers, and is a mighty intimidating sight."

Incubus/Succubus Thrall
Something Zephyr's mom Lorelei made very clear to him early on was that lust is earned. Incubi and succubi feed on a person's sexual energy; the stronger that person's desire is, the more energy there is to feed on. Incubi and succubi can technically use their thrall to force that attraction so they can feed, but Lorelei told him only the weak had to resort to such measures, and it was a poor supply of energy anyway. His mother's motto: it's either enthusiastic consent or it's a bold no.
On a base level, there's an aura around them that draws people in--but only people who would already find them attractive. There's a step up from this, where an incubus or succubus could nudge someone who's obviously interested to actually follow through on their desires. Then, there's the intentional manipulation; this can either be used to simply make a person do whatever the incubus/succubus wants, or it can be used to force that person into bed with them. Zephyr generally relies on his natural aura and personal charm, but every now and then he uses his thrall to give someone the final push they need to sleep with him. He only ever uses the full force of his thrall to get out of risky situations--or manipulate assholes--but he will never ever use it to force sex.

#blessed ocs
Hi. Welcome to everything you need to know about my batch of ocs I lovingly refer to as the #blessed group. For good reason, as you will soon find. These are ocs I care about dearly so yeah here we go
Apologies if some things don’t make sense; I’m tired and a lot of this was copy pasted from my messages to friends. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I would be happy to answer
Worldbuilding
First off, you need to understand the world.
The world they live in has gods. Like the kind of world where being atheistic would be akin to being a flat earther.
Gods like to bestow gifts upon mortals sometimes, said mortals being known as the blessed.
The gods:
As for which gods there are, they are still in development. These are the ones I know so far (none have names except one, who you will know soon): god of weather/skies, god of winds (a minor god, under the domain of god of weather), god of sun, god of moon, god of death and magic, god of love, god of earth, god of home and hearth, god of intelligence, god of sleep, god of luck, god of light, god of monsters, etc (think Greek gods like Morpheus and Zephyrus)
The main pantheon is the god of weather/skies, god of sun, god of moon, god of death and magic, god of love, god of earth, god of home and hearth, and god of intelligence (maybe some others, like I said, it’s murky)
Minor gods are the god of sleep, god of luck, god of light, god of monsters, god of winds, etc
Names:
Parents tend to name their children names that lend themselves to certain gods in hopes that that god blesses them. The god might, if they wanted to bless them in the first place, but sometimes they all just mess around and like to play with the mortals (eg. parents name their child Luna and they’re blessed by the sun god)
Characters
Faye:
Pronouns: he/they
Blessed?: no, but they’re a descendant of faeries, so they have powers from their lineage.
Status in the story: main character
Description: beanpole, he’s tall, not athletic, but pretty strong and fast nonetheless. They have like, shimmery light brown skin? Not as if it’s covered in glitter or anything, just a subtle shimmer to it. His natural hair is a dark “chocolatey” colour, but I feel like he dyes it pinks or other soft colours. (After Eclipse fully takes over their body for a while, it’s a deep black shade.) His eyes are a dark brown as well. Style wise they wear a lot of hoodies (this is because of trauma I may touch up on later) and jeans. At the time of the snippet, it’s a fancy party thing, so he can be found wearing a suit there. Painted nails in blacks, typically painted by Sol or Cirrus. Oh! And he just, always looks anxious. Constantly preparing for an attack.
Cirrus:
Pronouns: she/her
Blessed?: yes, and by the wind/weather god
Status in the story: deuteragonist
Description: shorter and rounder, she’s a great hugger (not for the reasons just mentioned, she just is). Like I said, she has cloud hair that reflects her feelings. Unlike her name, it’s cumulus clouds that are pulled into her ponytail. Sisters with Zephyr. Her and Zephyr are black. She wears a thin, soft blue hoodie and is more of a mom friend. Tbh, that’s most of her description!
Zephyr:
Pronouns: she/they/em
Blessed?: yes, by the air god
Status in the story: deuteragonist
Description: height wise e’s taller than Cirrus, while being shorter than Faye and Sol. It’s hard to tell when looking (because Cirrus’s hair floats), but Zephyr’s hair is longer than her sister’s. The hair’s ends are dyed bright pink (omb what if Zephyr and Faye got their hair dyed together…).They are more outgoing than the others in the group (think the extrovert and their adopted introverts), and was the first one Faye met. As for style, em has a chill but colourful look, and the clothes can often be just as “outgoing” as her personality. Just the vibes of wanting to be seen. A lot of purples in their wardrobe. Bright eyeshadow and funky earrings!
Sol:
Pronouns: they/xem
Blessed?: yes, by the sun god
Status in the story: deuteragonist
Description: as tall as Faye, but likes to say they’re taller. Xey have darker skin than Faye, but lighter than Cirrus and Zephyr. Fluffy, shorter, blondish hair. Okay look, Faye shimmers, Sol *glows*. Sun gods, amiright? Soft flowy tshirts and a generally “campy “ look, completed with a wide array of friendship bracelets. Socially anxious ambivert, they have a friendly demeanour with awkward mannerisms. Zephyr will do their makeup sometimes, and at the time of the snippet, they had golden eyeshadow (and a beautiful dress might I add). Xey present very masculine, and xey have top scars!
Eclipse:
Pronouns: she/it
Blessed?: nope. It’s a fucking god.
Status in the story: antagonist
Description: classic villain. Tall, dark hair, etc. God of death and magic, specifically dark magic. Capable of possession, and possesses Faye on multiple occasions. Kicked out of the pantheon for her power hungry behaviour, but seeks out getting back, and tries to uses its powers along with Faye’s to do so.
Picrews:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re in order of how they were presented <3
Link to picrew
That’s all for now!!
((The snippet that was referenced multiple times will be shared soon))
((As in like later tonight probably))

ZVA worldbuilding
just some world building for my ghibli-inspired-twst school, zephyr valley academy! this'll all be in a similar order to the one of the wiki page for night raven college
enrollment:
you can definitely apply to get in but i do think some students are handpicked for different reasons!
i think one of the best parts of ghibli films are the walking shots. moments in which characters are just walking to their next destination and you get to see the environment and detailing in the background... i think hayao miyazaki called them something, but i cant remember what it is.
the reason i bring this up is because i think when students are enrolled in ZVA, since the academy is in such a remote and rural area, they're dropped off at a certain point and then have to travel on foot to the building for the entrance ceremony. i dont think it's a long walk by any means: maybe like 30 minutes max and that's pushing it.
but i do think there are a lot of sights the students get to see while walking there. mountainsides, fields, lakes, undisturbed by society.. it's a very peaceful place. i also think maybe the walk should be timed with the sunrise? just cus its cool
during the entrance ceremony each student will receive a broach with their magestone, in which the color matches their dorm (link in next point!)
i mentioned this in my original uniform post, but also during the entrance ceremony, incoming first years recieve an enchanted leaf laurel and boa (shown here) that doesn't have any flowers. throughout their time at the academy, flowers representing them will sprout from the leaves. here's a timeline of the progression of the flowers:
first year: pretty much empty at the start of the year. little sprouts may begin to grow throughout their first year, and most have 2-5 small flowers. especially exceptional students may already have one or two bigger flower buds
second year: more sprouts start to grow, lots of wild variants; i think the second year is where students begin to experiment a little. by the end of the year, most have bigger flowers waiting to bloom. some exceptional students will have fully bloomed flowers already
third year: big flower buds begin to bloom throughout the year. many have grown a lot as mages over their time. by the end of the year, third year students will have rows of flowers around their shoulders and head.
fourth year: fully bloomed. students enter internships and graduate :]
ALSO the boa and laurel change colors with the seasons until it goes into full bloom where its enchanted to always be healthy and bloomed
i think itd make sense for ZVA to have a large (at least larger than usual) fae population considering how nature-connected it is...
ZVA is a co-ed school!!! both girls and boys attend!!!
history:
i feel like ZVA is younger than NRC and RSA but not by very much! where NRC and RSA are 500 years old (i'm saying 500 for simplicity sake; according to the wiki, it's AT LEAST 500), ZVA would probably be 400-300 years old.
here are the figures each dorm is based on, in no particular order (some of these are undecided and will be added later!)
the wizard of ingary (howl from howl's moving castle)
totoro
i cant decided between kaonashi (no face) or haku for spirited away... maybe i'll do a special case where the dorm itself is split into two?
undecided (ponyo)
undecided but im considering doing an offshoot dorm/group based around that boar thing from the start of the movie.. (princess mononoke)
castle in the sky (undecided)
undecided (kiki's delivery service... it might just be kiki but i need to watch the movie before i decide)
i dont have any values for them for now (like how heartslabyul is based on queen of hearts and her severity, savanaclaw is based on king of beasts and tenacity, etc) but i think ill come up with them after some watching...
i also want to add traces of other movies that arent dorms! maybe in events or classes? speaking of events...
traditions and events:
VDC/SDC is definitely one of them! i think they get pretty far in the competition for the cute peaceful vibes but then i think they get beat out by nrc and rsa LOL
interdorm magift/spelldrive: i dont think theyre like SUPER GOOD but also i do think they've won a couple of times
i mentioned this as a serencor (howl dorm) tradition but wouldnt it be so cute if there was a hat-making event honoring sophie... LIKE IMAGINING HOWL MAKING IT A THING JUST FOR HER... AUGUHGJHGJ
halloween: i think itd be interesting if some of the creepier stuff from ghibli films popped up here (say, no face/kaonashi and the boar worm god thing from princess mononoke)
something spirited away related. i DONT KNOW WHAT but its spirited away related.
reputation:
ZVA is known for its nature and being super duper peaceful!! it has a really good reputation among the public and its up there with RSA and NRC!
but at the same time i think itd be so funny if some of the other magic schools made fun of them for being hippies or something LMFAO
uniforms: (i WILL draw all these ideas i PROMISE)
i already did the normal school uniform (here) but i do think there are variations to it for summer and winter! like NRC, ZVA provides a winter coat and has an alternate summer uniform (it's pretty much just the same but short silk socks instead of stockings or kneesocks and short sleeved shirts)
ceremonial robes: i have no idea yet but im so excited to design them... im thinking going in the direction of a kimono or yukata as a homage to ghibli being based in japan
pe uniform: im sorry but nrc's PE uniforms are so. ugly. i think maybe a t-shirt and some shorts + socks? classic
labwear: pretty much the same as nrc's tbh. lab safety is important chat (IM LOOKING AT YOU 90% OF TWST CAST. PUT YOUR FUCKIN HAIR UP)
that's all i have for now! but i will make another one continuing on this tomorrow probably! as always, feel free to give me input!

where should i start reading your Rain World stuff about your OCs and such?
i don't really have any order in it so just jumpin into the oc tag n readin thru it would do, i guess?? though yeah,, tumblr isn't nice with the tags i won't lie, so i'mma compile some stuff for ya
there Are something of intro posts for the characters, though they've evolved a lot over time (originally the Anemoi Iterators were just not a thing, the only one i was meant to have was Fish with Zephyr serving only as a little neat backstory for one of the scugs connected to Fish. so Zeph especially has had a lot of evolution done to her character)
here are the posts: • Intro for Fish Inside a Birdcage, the Seafarer, the Tinkerer and the rest of their little family (x) (out of this Fish and Tinktink are most important n developed, with Seafarer bein a char i wanna work on a bit at some point) • Intro for Murder of Crows (she's a bg character for Moon's group, I rarely actually do stuff with her), Abet Zephyr, the Pan Wielder and few of the Scavs living in Fish's facilities (x) (this is also where The Children of Eo group is first mentioned) • Intro for the rest of Anemoi Iterators of The Children of Eo group, voice claims (Zephyr's is outdated) and the first look at world map, which i'm updating for myself as i'm workin on this stuff and will repost at some point so y'all can see the updates too (x) • List of Iterator City names (x) • Voice claim for Three Sparrows and updated one for Zephyr (x) • Spotto™ Ancients design reference post (x) • -sigh- "Who's Beppi?" (x) (here's him as a baby) • quick off the string in Ancient times AU designs for Euros 'n Boreas (x) • Sparrows' quickly put together art ref (proper one pending) (x)
Three Sparrows' lore is scattered basically all over over the place n she doesn't have a proper intro post yet
Some direct links for the convenience: • How the Great Cycle works in the Serotonin Take (a little add-on to it)
• Iterator anatomy lesson (mostly about the puppets) • Iterator anatomy lesson: detailing of the Hivemind that makes them up • Iterator anatomy lesson: personality development • Rambling about worldbuilding, mostly the Folk Gods (quite disorganized, explains The Saint though) • Ancients' hand mutilation in the name of the Global Religion • Ancients' mask culture • Ancients and their feeding face tentacles • Ancients' "hair" • Ancients and water habitats • Ancients, their venom and Also The Cleaning Slugs • Ancients' gills and some stuff with breathing • Three Sparrows character notes • Little drabble thing for Three Sparrows, though some things might not hold up • "Has Sparrows made any connections while in school?" • Three Sparrows and her slugcat reincarnation (lil continuations of it x, x) • "The Eo Iterators get off the string, who dies who thrives?" (not canon, except the Haboob comic at the beginning) • Zephyr and Moon swap as a characterization exercise that got a lil outta hand (not canon, but neat either way) • A continuation of the above, with Looks to the Moon in the Eo group + some talking about Abet Zephyr as a person • Fooling around with the concept of Zephyr knowing Pebbles, but then big explanation of Mission Self-preservation aka the biggest thing happening in the OC lore • "Can Euros run Doom?" • How did Caper of Euros and Three Sparrows get together romantically • Caper of Euros' priorities the lil comic • "What is Euros like during a Hivemind unsync?" + Three Sparrows the treasured component • Euros and Sparrows married?? • Caper of Euros' first case of the Rot • post 1st Rot reconcilation between the lovebirds • "Did Euros' entire Lab have to be rebuilt after the eradication of the 1st Rot?" • Sparrows' deathbed • Sparrows' Memory Crypt beef (x)• "Who's older? Notos or Haboob?" + Euros 'n Haboob's relationship • Gushing about the ending of the playlist for the group (link to the playlist itself here) • some Tinkerer and the Scavs fooling around content • tiny Seafarer post • what happened between Seafarer and Artificer? why were they separated?
(new text block cuz apparently tumblr has a character limit for that) • Iterator anatomy lesson: the antennas • Iterator anatomy lesson: sexuality and desire for pleasure • Ancients' blood • Ancients' skin texture • "How are Ancient's born?" • "Did Ancients' ancestors have even bigger teeth?" • Farmer Ancients weaponry and tools + Sparrows' encounter with a Red Centipede • "How'd Zephyr end up like that?" • "What are some of Zephyr's happiest memories?" • "Did any other continent have a bootleg Iterator situation like Zephyr?" • What was young Boreas like • Boreas, his batflies and what Desaevio was like • "Very beautiful, very powerful." Boreas animatic made by me sister • Angry Boreas? Let's try to fix him with a controlled shock • Filler Iterators stuff, especially introduction of Orion's Pathway • designing filler stuff a lil: NAE, Gem, high circle Sparrows outfit, first look at the Preacher, Expiation and Spore • Orion's helmet and RW constellations • some lore stuff for Orion • Orion's General • more on the Polar War • Fish and Pigeon Drones • Fish Inside a Birdcage Daycare for scav kits • "What is stored on Caper of Euros' puppet chamber pearls?" • How Boreas and Zephyr took Euros' romantic relationship with Sparrows the comic • Sparrows' daily routine • "Has Sparrows ever seen Euros without his faceplate?" • Iterator baby photos and first appearance of Sparrows' mom, Inkling of an Inbound Daybreak • "Does Sparrows hide her tail in her high circle outfit?" • Movement within an Iterator • "How does it feel like to respawn?"/Sparrows' first death described a little • How did that wedding of Euros n Sparrows' looked • "Does the Rot smell bad?" • "How did Boreas bail Sparrows out of getting fired after the 1st Rot case?" • Grandmama Sparrows • some stuff on Euros' 3rd Mechanic • Euros and his relationship to his memories of Sparrows • "Why do Biting Notos' colony worships teeth and the mouth?" • "Did Notos know something was wrong with its puppet?" • "What does Orion think about Notos' puppet design?" • Biting Notos' sins against its own kind • Inhale in Haboob colony (and herself) notes and ideas • some things on the relationship between Euros 'n Haboob • the Anemoi + Fish as slugcats • Fate of Boreas' Blessing in Saint Time • Ascending Biting Notos comic

I need to know everything about them but I dont know where to start,,, what bout like, a small introduction? For the main ones?
i can put down basic info that may or maynot raise more question...
Leo is the main guy. He's an old priest in a small town, and he has a really deep secret. Everyone wants to know the secret!!!
Earl is second to this as these two are the reason why I have expanded the worldbuild so much. He's a 300~ yr old lich who wants knowledge. He wants to know Leo's secret (and Leo carnally)
Zephyr knows the secret. he's a merchant (as far as anyone else knows) and a #real yearner for Leo
Arthur is a
Briar is a mercenary/hunter of sorts. he's bad for Leo. don't listen to anything I say about him. I was under a lustful spell making briar
I hope that's a good basic start. you can also find the main summed up like this

Bracket C Round 1
Poll 9
Wasabi Enchips (@sillyfunny) vs. Gobi (@prince-zephyr)
145. Wasabi Enchips (@sillyfunny)
He/him
HE DOESNT BELIEVE BIRDS EXIST HES A CONSPIRACY THEORIST HE HAS MOMMY ISSUES HE HAS DADDY ISSUES HE HAS AN ARC HES TUMBLR SEXYMAN MATERIAL AND MOST IMPORTANTLY HES GAY
146. Gobi (@prince-zephyr)
She/they
They are inspired by the Mongolian death worm! They are a sassy princex of the Gobi desert and keep mostly to themself and their pet companion, who is a grey panther. They enjoy eating whoppers, shopping, giving gifts to their close friends, playing games, and reading. They do not like spending time with others but to appreciate a few select friends who sometimes swing by the palace to spend time with the reclusive worm princex. They enjoy luxury and using tax dollars to improve their own quality of life, since they were chosen as the princex under somewhat unethical terms (an unfairly balanced fight to the death between civilians since the royal family was infertile) and they know nothing about ruling, yet in general their people trust her judgement and are satisfied with her choices and progress as a ruler.
They have short brown hair and snakelike yellow eyes, as well as 2 twin horns on their temples and 3 tusks on either side of their jawline. They take great pride in wearing cute and fashionable clothes and have a very large bubble tail that they often fashion in extra large thigh highs.

havent really had more indepth thoughts since than the posts i made last night but i just got to the "my name is zephyr" line again
like it's meant to be heavy bc we knows names are Sacred (<- lots of worldbuilding questions there forever to remain unanswered) and so yes theres the trust in penance, but it's also like, to claim a name, "my", is to claim an identity. it's an expression that there is something more to you than just your role, your function, the cause youre in service of.
and if transition is the only thing shes ever done for herself, right? and all the rest has been in Service. what shes called at any point is just the title of her function in the circumstances. but to say My Name is to claim an identity, that exists for its own sake. as is. not for anything. just is.
and if she chose the name herself, it's like an expression of a Want. which is what i was talking abt with the joy/pleasure thing. she doesnt Want anything, really, except maybe just for "this to be over". she starts out, in this story, at like the most Unwanting state you can have. being suicidal, most of the time, rather than a positive wanting to be dead, usually it's more a negative not wanting to be alive, you know what i mean?
and she remains in that state for all of the story we get. she doesnt really Want anything in a positive sense, mostly just wants like, things not to be like this. the world not to be like this. and not to be in the position shes in. but shes stuck in that position bc the world is like this. so the only way out is to try and make it,,,not like this. which is the main thing driving her for the whole season i think.
to say "my name is zephyr" i think is an expression of a positive desire. it's i want to be zephyr. it's, maybe, i want to just live. i want to just live instead of i want to stop fighting.

What's the kind of region/world/land look like for your dragon ocs universe? Generally speaking. 'Cause I've seen some talk about mountain, reef, ocean areas, etc, but nothing really about what that means to the world or how it works. :o
Okay so!! At some point I’m gonna (try to) make a map but!! The story and characters are all on one big landmass! Idk if I’m wanting it to be a supercontinent sorta thing or what but! That is where everything takes place :D
There are also lots of ocean-based towns and buildings and whatnot bc there are sea dragons like Cove and Kelp! The sea dragons have lots of variety in different areas! With the examples of Cove and Kelp, Cove came from a more open-ocean type region and is bigger because of it, whereas Kelp would be from a coral reef, and is smaller and brighter colored!!
Wish lived in an area of tall mountains that get a lot of fog throughout the year, so her town was pretty remote because of it being a bit dangerous and difficult to travel the majority of the time!
Moss is from a more foresty area, which is why he’s colored how he is! Camouflage babyyy
Dustbowl is from a mesa/desert type area
Zephyr is from a different mountain range than Wish is, the one he’s from is less rocky and has more greenery :D
Hopefully this is what you were asking for!! I admittedly don’t know much about the landscapes aspect of worldbuilding sadly :/

ive recently properly got into the hunger games, and me being me one of the things that interests me most is the names and worldbuilding! so here's some quick thoughts on why foxface being called Finch can or does make sense.
Many hg names (excluding d12) are dependant on their status on the urban-rural scale of things, as well as their industries. A lot of people think district 5 is completely urban - and I get that. when you think power, electricity and all that, yeah you may think hulking, brutalistic architecture and smog and smoke and city. But that's not the only way to harvest power. As the hunger games trilogy takes place at least a couple centuries into the future, its not likely that natural gas and crude oil will be the main sources of energy. While online sources don't agree on a certain time frame for this limit, one thing they do agree is that those reserves (and this is the whole of the us not just one district) won't be lasting to reach a hunger games canon timeline time.
And in the film's there's a dam shown! a hydroelectric dam, showing they use renewable energy as at least part of their power resources. With a dam like that, we can theorise they use other water based types of renewable energy, such as tidal or wave. in addition some places also have wind turbines out at sea instead of on land. so overall this suggests district 5 is by a tidal river and/or the sea.
In addition, other forms of renewable power come from rural areas. Rapeseed and soy are the two main biodiesel fuels used for biofuels, where plants are combusted to produce electricity. that's not exactly urban - far more an 11 or 9 vibe.
So maybe Foxface comes from a rural area, or maybe Finch is a name originally from the biofuel more agricultural areas that was popularised or her parents just liked it.
So it's quite likely that with its likely cities, power plants, dams, wave and tidal energy sources, solar farms, wind turbines and biofuels, five is one of the most diverse human environmental districts. that makes it interesting to me due to how that differs from the straight up yup that's fields or yup that's quarries and a merchant sector that many of the other districts seem to have.
so give me district five characters named Finch, or Tydal or Albert or Joule or Zephyr or geothermal nuclear powerplant the second this place can do so many name vibes compared to a lot of the other districts if you look at how their naming tends to work.

Sea of Sands, Sea of Spores
Originally posted to my Wordpress journal on January 31, 2023
Spoiler warning: The following contains discussion about the world’s explored in Tress of the Emerald Sea and Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere, Dune, Star Wars and Children of the Whales along with the themes of these stories. You have been warned.
Since the start of the new year, no book has perhaps caused quite as much of a stir online as the first of Brandon Sanderson’s Secret Project novels, Tress of the Emerald Sea. Announced last year, Tress is the first of four novels Sanderson fans have to look forward in the coming months.
Tumblr media
The story itself pulls inspiration heavily both from classic fairytales and high seas adventures to regale audiences with the tale of a girl who lived upon a rock in the middle of the titular Emerald Sea. That is until she ventures away from home to rescue her prince (well, technically, he’s the son of a duke) who was kidnapped by an evil sorceress. Of course, this being a Sanderson novel, the story is filled with a litany of literary twists, subtle foreshadowing, and a smattering of Cosmere related Easter eggs thanks to the stories loquacious narrator. But perhaps one of the most unique aspects of the novel is its setting, a planet called Lumar, who’s 12 moons releases a deadly rain of aether’s onto the planets surface.
For a more in depth idea of what aether’s are, check out this entry from the Coppermind wikia. But to explain it simply, within Sanderson’s novels, an aether is an object containing investiture, the Cosmere equivalent of magic. Throughout Sanderson’s works, investiture comes in many varieties and usually requires some form of bond or trade for them to activate or manifest. In the case of Lumar, the aethers rains down on the planet in search of water, creating seas of dangerous spore-like dust upon which people have adapted to sailing on. Though each moon, it’s spores, and the colorful seas that they’ve formed aren’t fully explored during Tress’s adventures, she and her companions sail the Emerald, Crimson and Midnight Seas, and Sunlight, Zephyr and Roseite spores are utilized on board the ship. And while people have been able to find ways to make use of the spores, the story makes it clear that, no matter the variety, spores pose a grave threat to those who meddle with them. When exposed to water, each pose their own unique dangers. For instance, Emerald spores sprout into vines that grow with unnatural speed while Zephyr spores release gusts of air and Crimson spores explode into needle sharp barbs.
When discussing the worldbuilding of Tress of the Emerald Sea, Sanderson has said he’s been inspired for some time to create a world with, “a fantastical ocean, a different kind of place that you can go where people sail in something that isn’t water.” Of course, he had already done this before in creating the Cosmere’s spiritual realm where the ocean is made of glass beads. So what is it about these unnatural oceans, these alien seas, that make for such compelling story telling?
To understand this, it’s worth exploring some other examples of worlds similar to Lumar. In March of 2018, Netflix released season one of the series Children of the Whales, the first episode of which opens on a funeral, immediately painting the story in tones of gloom and mourning. As the deceased is sealed within their coffin, they’re carried off to the edge of their island home, called the Mud Whale, and cast into the seemingly endless sea of sand that surrounds them.
And while it visually resembles a traditional desert, it’s explained that the use of magic is needed in order to keep from being sucked beneath the sandy surface. Only strange fishlike creatures survive within it’s depths. And while life on the Mud Whale at first appears idyllic, if a bit uncivilized by modern comparison, it quickly becomes clear that life on the island isn’t as picturesque as it at first seems. While the inciting incident of the story is centered around them finally making contact with their first outsider in nearly a century, it is later revealed that there exists a whole world that the Mud Whale has not only been lost from but deliberately exiled out of as punishment. And while the majority of the island’s residents have access to a form of magic called thymia which is inextricably tied to the island, the price for this magic is an exceptionally shortened life span for it’s users that in return leaves most of the island’s children as orphans. Although the use of magic allows them to travel short distances from the island, the inhabitants of the Mud Whale have no control over where the currents carry them. In this instance, the unnatural ocean acts as less of a threat then it does in Tress but instead serves as a jailer.
When it comes to similar worlds that pose a more direct threat to their inhabitants, the two most well known examples are also quite similar to one another: the desert planets of Tatoine and Arrakis, of the Star Wars and Dune franchises respectively. Within both universes, finding yourself on either of these planets usually represents a downward turn of fortune. As C-3PO says of Tatooine in A New Hope, “What a desolate place this is,” and it would be hard to argue against the observation. Tatooine is made up almost entirely of an uninhabitable desert waste. And Arrakis’s reputation fairs no better. In the novel Dune, we’re first introduced the very idea of Arrakis as Paul lays in bed contemplating his families upcoming relocation to the planet. “Arrakis — Dune — Desert Planet” refrains ominously through his train of thought narrative like the beat of a distance war drum.

Of both Arrakis and Tatooine, the planets are described as nearly uninhabitable. Though neither ones sandy expanses are technically considered seas or oceans, the magnitude of their size serves to create the same sense of isolation that the vastness of an oceans casts on an island while simultaneously providing all new dangers for their residents. Brutal sand storms, predators evolved to thrive in the waste, “outsiders” who threaten the boundaries of their communities and the constant lack of life sustaining water. And yet on both these planets, humans do persevere and make lives for themselves on these plants. They do not thrive on either planet by any means, struggle and poverty seems to be the norm for inhabitants of both Tatooine and Arrakis, but humans have none the less found ways to survive on both, given enough reason. Tatooine is said to be located along important trading routes while Arrakis provides the invaluable substance called spice to the rest of the universe.

A common building on Tatooine
While the people of Lumar aren’t necessarily forced to confront their seas of spores as directly as the people living on Arrakis or Tatooine, for those who do chose to sail the spores, the danger they present is all the more real. Not only is life sustaining water a limited resource while at sea but as the story’s narrator reminds us, human beings produce plenty of water on their own, “considering the number of wet things that leak from human bodies even when they’re healthy.”
“Breathe in a burst of verdant spores, for example, and your saliva would send vines growing out of your mouth—or in more interesting cases, into your sinuses and out around your eyes.” Read the first 5 Chapters of Tress of the Emerald Sea here.
All of these stories rely heavily on the classic conflict of man versus nature and Tress of the Emerald Sea is no different.  With this story, Brandon Sanderson has created an ocean that defies our normal expectations of a maritime adventure. Sure the spore seas ripple like water and boats can sail upon them, but unlike a traditional ocean, the “water” is a substance far more volatile and each sea presents its own unique challenges to those who sail it. We see this over the course of the novel as Tress learns to face her fear of the spores and in doing so gains access to even greater power and abilities.
No matter the world, the fascination with these desert seas has been rising in popular culture (like with the recent film adaptations of Mad Max and Dune) and after seeing what Sanderson has done in subverting the normal expectations of the “unnatural ocean” trope, it’s easy to see why. On a world like Lumar, Arrakis or Tattoine, characters are forced to confront nature head on in order to survive and in doing so, often achieve far greater feats then they or their audience's ever imagined.
