It’s been awhile since I’ve done a drawing for myself so here’s a profile of Scud the Disposable Assassin, one of the first characters I put in in my I Wish I Thought of It First folio.

I’d like to see some right-wing chowderhead try to correct Batman with a snarky, “ALL lives matter.”

“The More Editing You Need, The Less You Make” is Not How It Works
Part of my day involves combing through social media and email newsletters for job ads. One made me so mad, I didn’t need my morning coffee to get me going.  The ad offered “$.015 cents per word.” I incorrectly assumed this stood for “less than a penny” because, well, I’m a writer. If I could do math, I would understand things like odds and budget sheets just by looking at them. It’s a penny and a half, which didn’t make me feel any better.
I did what I usually do in this sheltered age when I’m mad about something: I write a post on my social media pages. A follower who I like responded that they did the math and if I just wrote one word a second for an entire hour, I could make $60, which they thought was a fair trade.  “The more editing you need, the less you make.”
I didn’t think I could be angrier but they pushed through that barrier of rage and found a way to my fluster button (I just like the word “fluster” and wish I could use it more).
A writer doesn’t just get paid to write. They get paid to re-read, re-write, edit, then re-read and re-write it again, most times from scratch. Then they get paid to re-read and re-write and edit down to the smallest detail again and over and over and over until it’s right. Any writer who turns in a first draft is not a writer. They are at best a transcriber and that’s being generous because even they have to re-read, re-listen and re-write what they write even though it isn’t their words.  Writers should not just be paid by the word. They should be paid for the time it takes to find the right word.

I'm gonna say something I've been wanting to say for a long time and I don't care what anyone says: I LOVE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS. I watched it with my brother and sister all the time. I still sing along to the theme song. I giggle like a child when SpongeBob and Patrick say hi over and over while Squidward rues the day he moved in between them. Song is Lake Than Jake's cover of the SpongeBob theme, which (warning to anyone in a car with me where I control the music) I also love singing to at the top of my lungs. NOTE: My color merging needs more work or better markers. I'm gonna blame the markers.

The return of Animaniacs reminded me of another great cartoon from my childhood that I hope will make a bigger comeback soon. I found Freakazoid around the same time I found MST3K and well...I would not stop making funny comments on everything. Eventually, I learned the appropriate times to do them and realized they could actually be funny.   Song is Freak Flag Fly by The Womb.
