Headcannon

What if Percy had a goldfish when he was younger because Sally didn't want him to ask questions about his dad (imagine that five year old who asks, "but why?" To everything...I'm certain Percy was one of them) bc she figured maybe he'd feel a connection to it being the son of Poseidon. Percy loved that fish, he would "bloop bloop" to it everyday, and it was called like Rodney or Guppy or something I reckon. When that fish died, he cried so hard for a week that Sally only fed him blue food in any means to chear him up, even made a blue cake with icing shaping Guppy(yeah I'm going with Guppy, even though Rodney is like a direct fishing pun) but he refused to eat any of the yellow, simply because "I will NOT eat Guppy!"

i think that percy and annabeth's relationship is so healing for both of them. like, our girl has severe abandonment issues but managed to pull the guy whose fatal flaw is unwavering loyalty. and our boy has severe self-esteem issues but managed to pull the girl who consistently chooses him. i love these two so much.

but have you considered that watching over time as the two most broken souls you know finally finding love in the form of each other and healing and growing as individuals and ultimately getting out of the their toxic insecurities and surroundings to have a happy and peaceful future together might be.....beautiful?

so something I've noticed within a lot of fandoms is that people will post their "neurodivergent" headcanons. which is fine ofc, however when they say "neurodivergent" they are typically only referring to autism or ADHD. maaaayybbee ptsd if the character(s) are "traumatized enough" (by that I mean, there's typically one who everyone uwuifies and infantilizes because their trauma is most prominently on display within the media). a common headcanon that often fails to address the trauma of other characters, or that trauma doesn't always manifest itself as PTSD/C-PTSD.

point being, while there's nothing wrong with headcanoning characters with these (autism, adhd, ptsd), maybe...do research? branch out more? imagine how nice it would be if suddenly large amounts of people were not only educated about other lesser-known forms of neurodivergence (ocd, did, npd, bpd, aspd, schizotypal disorders, etc.) but destigmatized them by giving these headcanons to well-loved, popular characters (rather than the villains or antagonists, or even just less popular or even hated characters). (and hey, if you didn't know, schizophrenia and autism can present similarly)

(that being said please do research before you head canon something stigmatizing or ableist.)

it could pave the way for real, genuine, non-stigmatizing or demonizing representation.

and this could probably be a separate post but I wanted to include it here as well:

POC CHARACTERS CAN BE NEURODIVERGENT. POC CHARACTERS ARE ALSO AUTISTIC, ALSO HAVE ADHD, OCD, AND MORE!! STOP LEAVING THEM OUT, STOP ONLY HEADCANONING THE WHITE PROTAGONISTS AS AUTISTIC.

i think that scene in botl when annabeth sits at the poseidon table and percy is quaking in his boots is an accurate representation of how they value following the rules. if you think about it, the only time percy purposefully breaks a rule is when he absolutely has to. like, when he illegally joined a quest to save his best friend who was held hostage...twice. otherwise, percy tries his best to behave. annabeth, on the other hand, will commit arson for fun. and we love them both equally.
