End of Spring Semester 2017, Campus Activities Board (CAB) Banquet :)
Just looking back...
It’s crazy how you can create a home and a community among strangers. I’m so grateful. Again, honored being on a team of such motivational, devoted, passionate, generous, insightful and super creative members--pulling all nighters and living in the CAB office.
This year I’ve taken a step back from this organization, but just amazed at how many communities can be built on campus.

Inspiration from the wall behind us
For the purpose of respecting privacy,  the person who has an influence on my life name’s will be replaced with the pseudonym ‘Maggie Richards’. I admire Maggie because of her mellifluous, analytical and dedicated character. Not only do I admire her personality, but I also respect her for the number of positions she takes in life.
Maggie Richards is a cheerleader, always right there when you need her. Shes there to motivate with her quirky dance moves and her uplifting personality; she is everything. I met Maggie freshman year in the bathroom after the Freshman Retreat and we bonded over the trip. The bathroom is the place where problems are usually flushed, it’s a personal space, where a lot of students debrief.
At the onset of this fateful encounter, I came into the bathroom crying and she happened to be there too. It was funny because she had just finished crying herself. I was crying because I was under a tremendous amount of stress, wondering about my “purpose in life” and “if I was going to make it” all because of one assignment. On the other hand, Maggie was crying because she had just found out that she was an undocumented student. That was when my heart dropped. After all of the years (three) I’d known her, this was a secret that I never would have expected. Then again, it was a secret to her as well, until earlier on that day.
The adversity of her journey added lens to my perspective because it made me recognize the relativity of my situation in that moment. While I was distraught over a single assignment, she was dealing with the question of whether or not she would be able to even attend college, continue her education and pursue her dreams. I realized in that moment that there are other things in life that are more catastrophic than not having your future planned out or not knowing exactly what one is good at.
How she handles adversity is what inspires me the most because it is something that I have always sought to improve within myself. She continues to add new things to her plate, walking through the buffet of life stronger and hungrier than ever. Before Maggie, I approached life more like a mall Food Court, tasting many opinions but never really committing to a single flavor. Maggie opened my eye to the beauty of the buffet and since then, I have never looked back. These days, I make the intentional decision to take on new commitments in my personal, social, and academic and I have learned that it is not so bad as long as I remember to keep things in perspective and take care of myself first and foremost. Maggie and I always run to each other when our plates get full and start to spill over on our lives. The plates represents a fusion of time and mental energy and each yummy dish added represents one of the many activities that fill up a day, week, or month. As a result of the beautiful friendship we have created, we get to walk through the buffet together, always picking items off of each other's plates.
In addition to the mental strength within that she helped me to discover, Maggie has also influenced the way in which I connect to my family and the community around me. In a generation that lives behind screens and closed doors, Maggie is truly family orientated which has inspired me to spend more time with my family as well. It’s difficult because by the time you reach the later years of High School, it is so easy to have accumulated years worth of annoyance or negative emotion towards your family; emotions that, if unchecked, can place a wedge between you and your loved ones that could last a lifetime.
Maggie is the youngest out of her kin and the amount of love and compassion that she shows every member of her family is truly inspiring. By being witness to what these relationships could look like, I was inspired to bring that same love and energy into my own household and the results have been life changing.
Outside of the household, Maggie continues to inspire me through her ability to do what she loves without needing affirmation from other people or social media. While Maggie feels most alive flying through the air during a halftime show, my stage is behind the debate podium. I feel alive most when I debate with my peers because I am heard. In both of these activities, Maggie and I found communities, where we could be our truest selves and this discovery, has been one the fondest experiences to date of my High School years.

Free food for thought and locks (like Pot Lucks) but locking down the food for hunger??

Community Call [Express Yourself]
In 2014, a group of Fenway High School students gathered together to create an event for the Boston community. These are some of the members that helped organize to bring people together to Express themselves. The theme of the event was anti-bullying because as teenagers living in such a high-pressure environment with negatively we forget to love, embrace our differences and express ourselves.

Bestfriends
Best friends
He makes me laugh effortlessly
He would say hi, and I would be like HA-HA
same goes for her but the difference is she doesn’t say anything
and it kills me
literally, I’m dying in laughter
it’s kinda a disaster
you shouldn’t make me laugh in class
because I’m a stop light
they stop, stare and crash
I’m sorry I’m a distraction,
Best friends
but that’s because all of my friends are comedians
meaning everything they say is funny
and the fun never ends
but they’re not just there for laughs
they’re the ones that you can take serious, like for real
I’m being real, this is real
they’re real
they’re there for vents, venting and to see the tears
she’s seen them at 3am
and was up with me until 7am
on new years, goodbye tears
cheers, Sunday family dinner
without the parents and children
just a group of friends that love each other and want bonding time fun
She always looks for inspiration
on my phone, so do I
we take turns
we’re so alike yet so different
He’s so funny yet serious
and he’s sure different than most
let’s just say all guys I know
he’s soft/gentle, sarcastic
real, not plastic
When it comes to snack time we’re “officially” best friends
and when it comes to money
he has some to lend
just a dollar,
because he has money,
just not like the Carters
Let me upgrade you
but not over pay you
She loves to sing along with me
to the one and only Queen b
and wait for the 55 with me in the morning
from Charlestown and Shawmut
we meet up, it’s great
We’re late
See ya later
Bolocos date?
hmm maybe Chipotle
She likes things spicy
and green tea, yummy
He has a sugar tooth
vanilla waffle straws from CVS
They like sex water
She has flawless skin
Mexican good with cooking tips
thanks mom
He/she puts me in check
Scholar athlete
he’s to the league
BSA
Long handshakes that take up basically all of the hallway space
Thanks for listening to my random stories
Being on the phone for hours
Thanks for telling me what I do wrong when I do, rather than argue and be sour
Hi-goodbyes, don’t forget to take pictures, screen shot messages, somehow to capture these moments
because time flies
These are the types of friends that last you a lifetime
Best friends

It’s Fabulous Friday
On my way to New York about a year ago, I was thinking of Vogue. When I think of Vogue I think of queen Anna Wintour. Within her last name is “tour” and tour sounds like contour, so I threw in shadows for the enhancing of the cheekbone. It kinda looks like Anna but I don’t think enough to call her Anna so I’ll just say she’s a new character by the name of Nena [(Ne)w york+ An(na)].
Doodling a sketch a day, frees the mind like a shave.

What car rides consist of, doodling.
When you run out of space on your phone,
make space on your sketchpad!
Just when you think of deleting a photo,
bring it to life instead with a pencil or pen cos yolo
You are born to create.
