right a week or so ago i saw a post re: trans masculinity about how it's silly to say the queer community doesn't devalue men cos gay men are often the centre of attention and the main 'representation' of the community, and i hear that, acknowledge it, whatever
but you acknowledge that's a specific type of gay man, right? usually skinny, white, a 'twink', if you will - effeminate if not outright femmy, heavily embellished in drag culture and 'the scene'. rarely (and mostly online, maybe different outside the UK) does it include black men too though they are usually also skinny and 'twinks' (and obviously in different countries this will also centre/include different races. don't be obtuse with me here. they're still usually skinny and ablebodied still).
meanwhile bears are viewed as a rarity, 'actually they're so masculine but they're very nice!' which is backhanded lol; whenever a 'masculine' looking [straight] man is a little bit effeminate they get assumed to be gay, but masculine looking masculine acting men don't get this assumption; masculine presenting and acting trans men (and neither are trans women or nonbinary people who fit this bill) aren't included in so-called 'safe spaces' for cis women, trans people, nonbinary people; any masculine looking guy in a gay space is assumed to be a threat first; every masculine gay guy i know feels a little bit annoyed/irritated that they have to fem themselves up to fit in to the point they reject calling themselves 'gay' and opt for 'queer' cos they aren't effeminate
like, yeah, sure, men are the face of the queer community when they're effeminate, usually white, ablebodied, perisex, and skinny but not when they're masculine, fat, disabled, intersex or of colour. anti-masculinity is fucking rife in the queer community at large, the only places i really see it openly accepted and celebrated IRL and online is in kink and fetish spaces (where they're also presumed to be tops, dominating, aggressors until they prove otherwise - usually by making themselves act more effeminate as mentioned previously - and then society at large considers these types of men predators and pedophiles etc for daring to express their kinks in spaces made for them in a safe-for-work manner)
then older men are better at accepting masculine men, also, but the queer community especially online doesn't acknowledge older people ever. so
no, actually, i do think the queer community has a problem with men, but more specifically masculinity (which isn't limited to men of course). so the moment trans men dare to dip their toes into masculinity, embrace body hair, beards, embrace 'men' mannerisms, to take up space, to be loud, to have masculine-associated hobbies, they're not considered trans anymore. and you barely like trans men when they're more feminine, anyway.

People be like "afab transfems(not even correct label use should be transfems afab) aren't valid why aren't there amab transmascs?"
Like, there are, but I'll do yall one better, I'm a cis man afab. If you can't handle intersex people being "technically cis" and identifying as trans I can't *wait* to see your reactions to us being "technically trans" but identifying as cis.
Like honey, it's not that simple. I wasn't even fucking raised as one gender or another, and I consider myself CTM, so guess what? Cistransinator 3000.
There are people assigned male who get raised female, assigned female who get raised male, people who don't get raised as or assigned as either, and hell, even people who get *reassigned* later in life. Some people have the opposite letter on their birth certificate their entire lives and never find out until they need their own legal documentation.
Also, yall's definition of being trans? Intersex exclusionary and based on a form of oppression. Drop AGAB, leave that shit in the past people.

If anyone's wondering why I haven't bothered to debate with those terfs on my post, it's because of a saying that I love to quote.
"Never play chess with pigeons. They'll just knock over all your pieces and shit all over the board."
I know that these people are not engaging with the post in good faith. They're not interested in discussion or debate. They're bigots. Never give them the time of day, because all it does is frustrate you and waste your time.

I love when the terfs get triggered by basic feminism </3
Under cisheteropatriarchy which is in turn inherently white supremacist, men— especially “deviant” (that is to say divergent from the expected performance of maleness and masculinity) men such as men of color and men of gender and sex variance— are oppressed. Unequivocally and demonstrably.

That person is right on the money with how southern accent are treated poorly, but they’re certainly correct on Louisiana accent are especially poorly. I’m Cajun/Louisiana Creole, and I learn at a very young age what the rest the of the country thought about my accent/dialect, my people, languages. I was really shocked when I saw some people say they actually like gambit’s accent in recent portrayals of the character. Tho, did see a lot of other people being weird to, so, ehh. Let’s just say in combination with my accent in my autism and language and mathematic disabilities when I used Cajun English the amount of times I got called the r slur drastically increased comparative when I tried to use proper English, which is what we call standard south English.
Like I said, I want to add some context on kind of why that is. A lot of what people associate with a Louisiana accent, is actually its own form of vernacular English. There’s two primary ones being Cajun vernacular English(what is just called Cajun English) more associated with the Bayous and prairies of Louisiana what is sometimes known as Cajun country or Acadiana, and Yat (New Orleans English), which is mainly spoken in Metropolitan areas of New Orleans. These dialects and accents formed out of the Americanization of the Louisiana people Through the time of American ownership of Louisiana. Straight up the reason why Louisiana doesn’t speak LA French or LA Creole anymore is because it was illegal made by the state constitution like the 70s, and it was violently punished in school. (CW child abuse) My great grandparents grew up having to write lines saying “I will not speak French in the classroom” over and over again if they slipped up and spoke French, and if they did it repetitively, they would be physically punished (TW end). The general sentiment basically from the English population was “don’t speak Cajun, don’t speak Creole, speak white”. Because of this and other discrimination against French and Creole speaking people (to be honest with you it was everybody that just didn’t speak English primarily, it wasn’t like Spanish and the languages of the indigenous people of Louisiana weren’t also violently discriminated against). There’s also a lot of racial stuff there, but there’s too much history that I would have to explain and I’ve already infodumped you enough.
So you already have this on top of the reason why people are weird about a southern accent. It’s double because you also sometimes get it from others southerners. I would also get shit from other people from the south, primarily my family from Texas and also Tennessee, which was surprising. So basically by the time I was 11 I learned how to code switch between academic standard English, Southern English, and Cajun English, and at some point code switching became actual switching between alters with our system.
TBH, I think at the end of the day most people just need to realize you just shouldn’t make fun of the way people speak, there are so many reason why you shouldn’t. The way and forms on how people communicate shouldn’t be mocked full stop, this goes for accents, for different languages, this goes for alternative ways of communication, not listening to them when you immediately are thinking about making fun of their accent or a joke about their accent, is not going to do anything for you or for them.
Again, sorry for the infodump, I just try to spread information about my ethnicity any chance, so I get to people to stop calling me a spices when I say my ethnicity. That happens every once and awhile, and I still don’t know how to feel about it.
Oh, wow. Yeah, I had some vague knowledge about the way Louisianan accents and especially Creole/Cajun accents and vernacular are treated but I'm really glad to have more information about it. Thank you so much for sharing, I really appreciate it. And don't ever apologise for infodumping, I LOVE being infodumped on. Please, come infodump on me about anything at any time, I am ALWAYS willing to learn new stuff. Especially if political or historical in nature!!

Look at you popping up with the receipts! Thanks for the addition!
youre asking americans (people historically oppressed by the british) to actually care about the tiny nuances in your shitty accents and not make fun of you despite the fact that yall are, historically, the most oppressive people on the planet. do you hear yourself?
Hey so fun fact, classism isn’t okay no matter who you point it at ! I never said that the British Empire or the English royal family were not horrific colonial bloodthirsty pieces of shit. They are. Believe me, most English folk hate our own govt and royals just as much as the rest of you.
But there’s a difference between mocking the systems of power and the people in charge in this country who have colonized almost the entire planet and oppressed literally everyone they came into contact with and being a fucking asshole and punching at people who are ALSO being oppressed.
That’s the whole fucking point of the post! Do YOU hear yourself? Pull your head out of your ass and get some class consciousness maybe
Also “tiny nuances” mate, the nuances are fucking massive. You’re just an ignorant cunt.
@velvetvexations you’re an American, care to comment?
