Goodreads 1 star reviews complaining about how the book was trying to be "edgy". Babes you picked up a book about sci-fi necromancers with a cover of an aviator-wearing skull-painted lesbian and you weren't expecting to run into any edge lords or emos? That's not the book's fault, that's a skill issue

Yeah, maybe that character is the worst, but you don’t have all the facts, which are: I love h—

ow a character doesn’t have to be quote unquote “good” in order to be well written, multi-faceted and interesting to watch or read about, and someone can be given all these seemingly “irredeemable” traits and morals you don’t necessarily agree with but you can still in other ways analyze, connect to or empathize with regardless because time and skill has been taken to craft them into more than a 2D cutout, and being able to capture both that conflict of ideals and yet desire to understand is simultaneously a mark of great writing and of the human condition.

Also, I love them.

Yes the Darkling is a bad guy for a lot of reasons, but up there for me is him asking Vladim if he helped his town and then interrupted Vladim saying how he helped his town by saying he wasn't asking for his life story.

My guy, what? You were just asking him about where he came from and what he was able to do. What?!
