Goodcausetv interviews Tricia Zipfel Co Author of ‘Our Lives: Challenging Attitudes to Poverty in 2015′
In 1943 a group of women wrote a report ‘Our Towns’ which documented the problems of urban poverty and the way society made assumptions about those who were poor. The women challenged those assumptions and called for a national response to tackle poverty and called for support for those who were affected by it. Our Towns acted as a wake up call for the nation.
In 2015 another group of nine women authors with deep experience of working in poor communities across the country were prompted to revisit poverty in Britain. Their report published today in Newcastle upon Tyne, insists that the poor should not be blamed for poverty, particularly as many of the poor today have jobs and are doing all they can to support themselves and to contribute positively to society. Society today needs to come together to support those who have fallen on difficult times, not sanction them.......but Tricia explains it much better than me.

Tackling Rape and Sexual Violence in Northumberland, UK
Tumblr media
An organisation in Northumberland is offering positive help and support to victims of sexual violence and rape. However funding, raising their profile amongst health practitioners and ensuring rural victims are given the support that they need is not always easy.
As sexual violence against women in Rotherham in the UK and in other UK towns is raised as a local, national and international issue, Andrea Perrett, of Grace Northumberland Rape Crisis Councelling, talks to goodcausetv about the challenges her orgainsation faces and the importance of the help that they provide to victims.
See the interview here (apologies for some background noise and for the huge guarddog that appears at one point!) Please retweet the link to your networks if you think the message in the interview is valuable to those in Northumberland and elsewhere, Thanks !
