#inktober day 8 is star! So I decided to illustrate Evening Star by Edgar Allan Poe. And I have no idea why the hell my brain got this idea... but this poem reminded me of the famous photography of Marlene Dietrich. And I though the butterfly lighting came from a star above her. And then I decided to put illuminati eye in the star because... I really don't know! Edgar Allan Poe must be turning over in his grave with indignation so much he must be dizzy. But I quite like it! . 'Twas noontide of summer, And mid-time of night; And stars, in their orbits, Shone pale, thro' the light Of the brighter, cold moon, 'Mid planets her slaves, Herself in the Heavens, Her beam on the waves. #inktober day three is roasting! And I was slightly uninspired today so I inked a bonfire. But I do love this poem by Emily Dickinson, especially the allegory about folding a flood in a drawer. But my test sketches weren't very good when it came to illustrating that image! . I had fun working with opposite colours. And then setting it in opposites with Photoshop. I felt that gave the transparency of the flames a truthful aspect! #inktober second entry is tranquil! Does it still count even though it's passed midnight? I didn't take into account the time it took for the ink to dry before scanning it! . The poem I illustrated this week is by my awesome friend @distancemeansolittle . It felt like a personification for night was fitting. Instead of the terrifying figure she's usually represented as, I imagined her as a motherly figure, in a nightgown and hot chocolate, accompanying the world as it goes off to sleep! . Welp! I'm not great shakes at drawing water it seems! Or maybe I wasn't patient enough with it! Okay... so here's my first ink illustration for #inktober2018 on the theme of poisonous. TW: Anorexia. . I want each of my illustrations for Inktober to be an illustration of a poem I am very fond of! With poisonous, the poem that immediately came to my mind is "Skinny Girls Bleed Flowers" by @savbrown. I'm not starting off the month with one of the most upbeat illustration possible. But it's a subject very close to home, as I know many people who have struggled with it! I didn't know how far I should push the illustration seeing how delicate of a subject this is. But Savannah Brown's poem captures the struggles and complexities of that eating disorder perfectly. I abridged Savannah Brown's poem on my drawing, and inserted only the first and last verse of it mostly for it to fit in the instagram aspect ratio. . . But Inktober is also about illustration, and whereas I'm not necessarily 100% convinced by my ink drawing (I had a few other research sketches that could've made a better illustration), I am aware it's just the start of the challenge. And I'd like to try out as many styles as possible to work on my personal style through this challenge. So my page is going to be quite muddled and without structure for this month! Any advice on how I could improve it? I'm telling myself a background would help make the drawing float less on the page? Oh and the legs are a mess on their own. . @phildelofficial is one of my favourite artists to listen to; her music has carried me through a lot of dark times, inspired so many aspects of my current novel. So I don't know if you guys knew this but I had created another Instagram specific to my design endeavours!
