So I've officially been off of Proactiv for about 2-3 weeks now, and my skin is finally starting to maintain some normalcy. Proactiv literally makes your skin dependent/addicted to the system itself, and can leave your skin dull and dry. My skin has been going through its "detox" period and let me tell you what: it's been SO fun. So I started doing research on ways in which people have slowly started backing off of Proactiv, hopefully this benefits somebody out there! I've begun washing my face with Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap, I have been using the peppermint and tea tree oil soaps for their acne fighting capabilities. The soap itself is vegetarian friendly, and I have been lead to believe that the bar version is vegan friendly. Many of us are unaware of what we are putting into our body by way of our skin! If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them!

Umm this looks INSANE, and pretty much like what I have been missing in life...

CHAKCHOUKA
Chakchouka (also spelled Shakshouka) is a dish of eggs that have been poached in a tomato-based stew, all spiced up with peppers, onions, and cumin. It’s a traditional dish of Tunisian, Libyan, Algerian, and Moroccan cuisines, but I first read about it in a Moosewood Restaurant cookbook. It’s a great vegetarian meal, is easy and quick to prepare (about 20 minutes). I made it and served it along side my Mizuna Citrus Salad, which was a nice pairing. Be sure to serve it with a big hunk of crusty bread too, so as to sop up all yumminess.
Ingredients:
* 2 Tablespoons olive oil
* 1 cup chopped onion
* 1 bell pepper (green, red, whatever color you have)
* 3 garlic cloves, diced finely
* 1 teaspoon ground coriander
* 1 teaspoon ground cumin
* 1 fresh cayenne pepper, de-seeded and chopped finely (or use any other hot pepper of your choice)
* 2 cups (or one large can) of crushed tomatoes
* salt and pepper, to taste
* 4 eggs
In a large skillet, heat the oil and saute the onions for about 5 minutes. Add the bell pepper, garlic, coriander, cumin, and hot pepper and cook about 5 minutes more, until the peppers begin to soften. Add in the crushed tomatoes. Salt and pepper to your liking. Once the veggies are hot and simmering, make four evenly spaced indentations in the stew and carefully crack one egg into each hollow. Lower the heat, cover the skillet (a glass lid really helps with this part!), and gently cook for several minutes until the whites are set and the yolks are soft-cooked. Serve in shallow bowls.

Woooof.
Hey, all y'all.
Sickness is over, two more days of antibiotics. Could REALLY use a cider right about now, though.
So I had really wanted to do something special for my readers... and myself. This would be the Oil Cleansing Method (maybe you guys have read about it on Pinterest, or just heard about it via word of mouth... if not, then check it out)
From my understanding, the Oil Cleansing Method can work because of the idea that like causes/cures like (very anthropological concept). So far... my face has freaked the fuuuuck out (excuse me.), and I'm not entirely sure if I should attribute that to starting birth control again almost simultaneously, or 2-3 days of really shoddy cleansing while I was sick.... I freaked out and started back on ProActiv.
Let's just say that as a newly single lady, I'm feeling REALLY hot and confident lately. I played "who's in control" today and dyed my hair dark, again. Ugh. EMOtions.
Maybe I'll try again. Anybody have any really awesome stories about success/failures with the OCM? ANYBODY A MIRACLE WORKER? ANYBODY WANNA GIMME A SELF-ESTEEM BOOST (an honest one)?

Here's an old post for you, circa April 2012
"I made this little beauty today after taking notes from Giada. The goal, as always, was to find a recipe and hopefully add components I already have in my fridge.
This flatbread breakfast recipe is actually light enough to eat as a snack, but making it heartier wouldn’t be an issue either.
What you need:
flatbread like pita (I had whole wheat fajita tortillas that I wanted to use up, they don’t necessarily give the desired crunchy texture, but it DOES make it easier to roll up your meal as it gets messy at the end)
marscapone
arugula
avocado (her recipe called for proscuitto, but I’m a vegetarian so I added a component that would still have some substance, but that would also give me the nutrients I needed later on)
an egg
salt, pepper, and lemon juice
To begin…
I toasted the tortilla in a skillet, you could also coat your base with olive oil and grill it if desired, it’s all about texture and taste
Take about 2-4 spoonfuls (depending on the size of your base) of marscapone and to it add lemon juice (as much as desired), a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper… after the bread is done, spread the marscapone out evenly across it
I used a little less than a 1/2 of the avocado at this point; I simply diced it and smashed/spread it around the marscapone, and then placed the arugula on top of it.
Finally, I cooked an egg for about 4 minutes in the already hot skillet, flipped it once, and added salt and pepper to both sides (next time I plan on poaching the egg!)
nom.
If you’re feeling crazy, throw some feta on it. "

Dear Sweet Readers,
I am currently battling the SICK. Almost better, though. This afternoon I received such an unexpected, yet encouraging message about this blog. Though, this project has made no large leaps and bounds in the way of healthy eating, it sincerely makes me feel like I've made a difference when I get such positive feedback.
Thanks y'all.

Hello, Secretary of Snacks here. Avocados are coming, and you should be ready. Dice one avocado, drizzle your favorite form of citrus on top, use some salt, pepper, or even sriracha, and add sprouts (these are radish sprouts). YUM! Avocado and vitamin C are really key when it comes to melt belly fat, ESPECIALLY fat coming from stress/anxiety/depression.
