It is self reflective selfie Sunday once again. To say that I'm interested in the vastness of human potential, my own and that of others, would be an understatement. It's much more of an obsession. There is however, a dark side to this obsession. Goals that call upon your potential are essential to feel a sense of purpose, of moving forward, learn lessons, experience life and self actualize. However, in the one track single lane highway to success, it's easy to become so focused that you ignore everything unrelated to your goals...and I mean everything, from Family to friends and hours of time that could have been appreciated for the value they contain simply because they are hours alive here and now. The opposite is also problematic, giving too much time to other things as an excuse to not execute on your goals. It's a balance. If you're always too caught up in that next goal, you may miss all the little moments on the journey there...those moments that add up to be your one short life. This is no easy task, and I'm still working on the balance myself, but it's worth taking some time out to consider where you fall on this scale of goal orientation and presence to the moment. Treating the process as the roses instead of stopping to smell the roses is one helpful mindset that I learned from @garyvee . That being said, if you like actual roses as well, as you pass them by, take in a whiff and savor that moment too. I'll leave you with a few words from Marcus Aurelius that hammer the point home, "Live each day as if it were your last, without frenzy, without apathy, without pretence."
