Growing up in school there were two groups you could fit into; the 'neeks' (nerds) or the 'cool kids'. However, in my case, I didn't completely fit in with either; a somewhat 'neeky' young boy who was considered good at MCing... I was too cool for the nerds and too nerdy for the cool kids. I was different. With ties to both groups I came and went as I pleased, but it meant that I never truly belonged anywhere, a feeling that many of us experience at some point during our lives - especially in our youth when we aren't always equipped to handle not fitting in. I decided to write 'Quite Misfitting' to empower children everywhere across the world who feel, or have ever felt out of place. This is a poem about me and my bredrin doubt. We grew up together, had our first fight together, hell even shared the first sensual experience with a woman together.. But of late I've found him to be a thorn in my side. It's funny because nobody else sees him except me. At times I tell people about my old friend doubt and they accuse him of being some imaginary figment of mine. I've told him to leave me alone recently, I think we've grown apart over the years. I still see him from time to time though, lurking in the shadows, begging me to let him back in my life.. You again. My old friend, though friend is hardly a term I'd use to describe you. You've existed for as long as i can remember. Some phantom from a long forgotten tragedy, haunting my potential and greying my confidence. Failure, fear, confusion, inadequacy; these are also names you tend to sport guise underneath, vanishing just as the mask is unveiled...

But we know who you are, what you are...

A parasite that continues to feast on the aspirations of the innovative, claiming their brightly sparked ideas for yourself to add to your collection of waste.

No more doubt. Doubt no more.

And though i have had this conversation with myself an uncountable amount of times, you pop up again and again with a different face, smell, shape or demeanor... And i fall fool for you.

(MEMOIRS OF A LONDONER; part 3) He sipped at his green tea then abruptly stopped and placed it back on down the plastic table as the scalding liquid burnt his lips. It was a cold Tuesday morning and Adaran had been waiting for his friend in the complex of Liverpool Street station for approximately 40 minutes, though to say it was their fault would be a bold lie. He'd taken it upon himself to arrive extremely early, so instead sat outside the Starbucks next a set of station escalators to pass the time, watching pigeons strut around the brown-grey speckled flooring. The station was alive as it always was, people were busy chatting as they sat in the more cosy interior of the coffee shop, beeping train barriers singing songs of entry and decline in the distance, whilst commuters swiped their oysters. A young couple pulled up to the table next to him, each accompanied by luggage trolleys. He was distracted by the sound of a huge rattling cage that a man wheeled into the WH Smith bookstore adjacent to where he was sitting. Adaran pulled his phone out of his pocket and tried again to sip at his beverage. It was more tepid this time round and filled the pit of his belly with warmth. He smiled as the sensation spread throughout his body and put in his earphones, catching the last of the overhead speakers blaring announcement about platform 11... It was a quiet evening on a residential street in Pimlico. Not long before the 11th hour, clicking heels could be heard making contact with the ground. The occasional purr of car engines and a flash of their headlights would catch his attention, as they disappeared into the mid of the night. As Adaran sat in his vehicle, he gazed lazily into his phone screen, busy typing away at its screen as the low audio of a radio talkshow played in the background. He sat up suddenly from his slouched position, stared to the right of his car window and sighed. "I wonder what the world will think of my writing efforts" he pondered "... a man can dream".
