In today’s time, most amateur writers are finding it extremely difficult to get their work noticed by the right audience due to the plethora of online writing platforms and thousands of posts being posted every minute. And as a writing platform, we not only understand this problem but also realise that it is our responsibility to notice, identify and promote exceptional writers and poets on our app and take their work to the world.
And this is exactly why we came up with the idea of releasing series of our poetry collections.

Written by users of the WriteSome App, this poetry collection has 20 poems divided into 4 parts — Talk, Wait, Leave and Go. Each part with poems about that phase/ element of human connection.
Part 1- Talk: Deep feelings, heartfelt, exhilarating, romantic love.
Part 2: Wait — Overpowering and emotional poems on Love.
Part 3 — Leave: Overwhelming cravings for deep love, beautiful flow of emotions.
Part 4 — Go: inspiring, moving and touching poems.

How to add a post on the WriteSome App?
Open the App and you shall see the feed

When you open the app, you’ll see five icons at the bottom app bar. And the 3rd icon in the bar is called the ‘Write Post’ button which opens the ‘post writing’ screen.
There are 4 fields in the ‘Write Post’ screen:
Category: To choose if you want to write Poetry or Story
Title: Title of the poem/ story
One line description: This is the summary of the poem/ story. It makes it easy for the reader to know what your post is about
Writing screen: This is where you write your story
Now that you’re familiar with the screen, you can follow these five steps to write a post:
Step one: Choose a category. WriteSome App gives you two choices.
When you tap on ‘category’, you can see two categories on posts you can write: Poetry and Story. Then, choose the category depending on the type of post you’re going to write.
Step two: Write the title
Then, make sure the title is short, to the point, and easy to understand. Such titles make it easy for people to discover your content and it’ll be more popular. This is a mandatory field and cannot be left blank. After that, you can tap on ‘One line description’.
Step three: Write the one-line description
‘One line description‘ is basically the summary of your post. It will tell the reader what your poetry or story is about. That’s why it’s the best way to make a reader interested in your content and grab eyeballs. Just like the title, keep it short and to the point. This too is a mandatory field and you can’t leave it blank. After that, you can tap on the ‘writing screen’ area.
Step Four: Write the poetry/ story

You can write your poetry/ story here and tap on the ‘next’ button on the top right-hand corner. Which will then take you to the ‘choose cover’ screen.
Step five: Choose a cover for your post

WriteSome App will give you a wide range of cover posts to choose from. These posts are designed by some of the best artists in the world and you will fall in love with them. So try and go through all of them first and then choose the best one and tap on the “Post” button. And aha, you have posted your writing.
So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and start posting your poetry and stories today.

Writing Tips - How to involve the 5five senses
We’re sure if you’ve ever asked for writing tips, you’ve been told that the most important part of writing a story or a poem is to make the reader feel involved with the characters and the plot. A very important and interesting way to do this is by involving your readers’ five senses. This can be done by laying stress upon details related to sight, smell, hearing, touch, and tasting. The use of sensory language connects your writing to your audience on a very deep level and engages the reader into your story.
Here are some tips on writing with respect to each sense:
Sight Sight or visual description of the sitting is probably the easiest to write about. It also concisely conveys to your reader as what your character sees or where the character is. You could talk about colour, texture, size, shape and so much more. Once you start with the ‘obvious’ descriptions, go into more depth: how does your character walk, their mannerisms, and any change in their appearance or facial expressions throughout the plot. Your goal is to make the reader think and imagine if they were there living in the setting or seeing the way the characters move or talk.
Smell You can do wonders if you can make your readers imagine what your characters smell at some point in your story. Or how a place in your story smells like. Smells are usually split into two simple categories: pleasant or unpleasant. And unfortunately, most people think describing the category of smell stops at this point. But if described the write way, it can enable your reader to experience the setting in a much better way. Think often how the smell would be at important places in the story. And remember, the smell doesn’t just mean your new perfume or the food cooking across the street; smells can describe the weather, conflict, a room, anything.
Hearing There are a number of techniques for using sound in your writing. There is also no limit to the range of sounds you can write about and make your reader imagine in your writing. Even if your character is sitting in an empty room with no clear source of a sound, you can describe the deafening and eerie or awkward silence. Writing about sound almost always add to the beauty of the setting. E.g. From where I am right now I hear the clicking of phone keyboards, the barks of dogs outside, the deep murmur of the air conditioning, and food cooking in the kitchen. You really want the readers to picture your characters’ environment and what unnoticeable sounds there will be. This will ensure they are submerged in the setting.
Touch This is usually when writing can be a bit difficult with the number of adjectives you can use to describe the physicality of one’s story. Your character can touch and feel almost everything, even temperature, humidity, and the weather. The important part of writing about this sense is to not just discuss the physical touch your character experiences; but about how it makes your character feel, their emotions, pain and even that sinking feeling in your stomach of guilt! Using the right words to describe touch can make your readers fall in love with your story.
Taste Usually, with this sense, writers go into various details. And they do it to try and accurately describe what something tastes like to the character, typically through the use of metaphors. Metaphors make it easier for the reader to understand the experience of the character. It also lets them relate to something through their own memories or experiences. When using this, remember the sense of taste is one of the most subjective experiences. So you may want to use words that precisely explain the taste your character is feeling.
Once you’ve written your first extract focusing on a sense, show it to test readers, who can be friends or family members, or even other online platforms where you ask for a review. However, the problem that arises from this is the potential for a biased view that hides the truth from you. Or, for online platforms, they might charge you large sums of money for not much in return. This is where a strong community of writers and readers on WriteSome can help you.
WriteSome is a platform for passionate writers, who want to work together to make each other better through frequent reviews. If you want to improve your writing, or even want to just read something for leisure, you should download the WriteSome app today.

How to start your poems
Writing poems can be tough and tricky for most writers, especially if they’re just starting to write. While the whole process of writing good poetry is challenging, the most critical part of a poem is the opening line, the hook. This is what pulls the reader in and keeps them engage in your works. In fact, this is the same for all types of writing: songs, novels, short stories. The purpose of the hook is to make sure your reader keeps reading your poem.
You may do this by creating a vivid image in the readers’ mind, truly setting the scene of the poem. If you’re writing a narrative poem, you could start by introducing a character, or the setting the poem is in, or the purpose. Whatever you may choose to start with, all poems should start with a hook, to keep your readers glued and ensure they don’t stop after the first line.
Although there are a variety of ways to start a poem, you must make sure that the reader is engaged and you have their attention. Here are some examples of poems with ambiguous but interesting opening lines.
“I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked” from ‘Howl’ by Allen Ginsberg
“I have gone out, a possessed witch” from ‘Her Kind’, written by Anne Sexton
“He came home. Said nothing.” From ‘Going Home’ by Wislawa Szymborska (Polish translation)
“I wandered lonely as a cloud” by William Wordsworth
All four of these examples show how to create ambiguity and some form of suspense for the reader to be interested in your story.
Here are some tips to give a perfect start to your poems:
Decide what type of poems you want to write Different forms of poems need different techniques to write the opening line and the rest of the poem. An example of this can be Haiku: a short poem in three lines of five, seven, and five syllables, ultimately totalling seventeen syllables. Therefore, you need to pay particular attention to your choice of words and the number of syllables. Compare this to a free verse poem, which doesn’t have many limitations and allows you to express your idea and share your story without needing to worry about the meter or syllable count etc. This is why knowing the type of poem you are writing is crucial to its development.
Brainstorm It can be helpful to write all your ideas down on a piece of paper, not worrying about the technicalities of your poetry. You could place your poem inspiration, be it a picture or a phrase, in the centre of the page and write whatever you feel, without stopping. Even if it does not particularly help you with this poem, it is a very useful and effective exercise that can give ideas for other projects, stories or poems.
Use personal experiences to write poems The best way to write anything is to use something you have experienced or understand personally. This gives you authenticity to your poetry and you are most likely find it easier to write in more detail. This will make it unique to yourself and therefore, make a more interesting read.
Read your first line out loud If you’re having trouble writing your opening line, try reading it out loud and see if it sounds right. The best opening lines in poetry sound as beautiful out loud as they do to read. There are a variety of literary devices you can use to enhance the sound of your poems such as assonance or meter.
You can use these tips to write your next poem. And make sure you share it on WriteSome app with its writer community.
Any form of writing can be hard to do without the correct help and guidance, especially if you are just starting in your writing career. Thankfully, WriteSome’s writer community is here to help you become a better writer. Download the WriteSome app today and start writing your heart out.

How To Overcome Writers’ Block
Writers’ block is a nightmare because it robs writing of its delight. Writing should be a fun and relieving activity. Some are debating whether it is a normal thing or just an excuse to be lazy.
To answer that, Sarah J. Ahmed from The University of North Florida wrote that stress, anxiety, and fatigue maybe some of the causal factors too. So, how do you handle the loss of inspiration to write? 1. Take Off The Pressure on Your First Draft
For writers, it’s difficult to work on the first draft without being a perfectionist. Thinking about the flaws too much. Unfortunately, forgetting to have fun while writing is one of the most popular causes of writing funk. That’s why you need to take off the pressure and work on your first draft freely. Remember, you can always edit it later!
2. Find A Writing Prompt
The internet is a huge storage of writing prompts. These pieces of ideas might help you resume your work. You can pay a visit to websites such as Pinterest to find prompts from different genres too. Also, you can join a community and find inspiration from other authors’ works.
3. Use A “Productivity Timer” To Get Rid of the Writers Block
Another cause of writing funk is a distraction. One of the biggest distractions in today’s world is social media. So, put down your gadget and use a productivity timer. There are a lot of apps that you can download!
4. Declutter Your Workspace
Next, tidy up your workspace and make it into a stress-free zone. As an example, imagine you’re writing on a cluttered desk. It’s stressing you out, isn’t it? The same goes for your workspace. So, declutter now!
5. Do Activities That Don’t Involve Writing
Lastly, if none of the above helps you overcome writers’ block, try doing something else that doesn’t involve typing or holding your pen. You can visit the nearest coffee shop, bookstore, or park. Not a fan of going out? Then, download the WriteSome app and read some works from writers around the globe. It might give you the push you need to break down the block. To sum up, stop giving yourself too much pressure as you write and make writing fun and enjoyable!
