okay back to my winter soldier cass au; captain america steph & black widow tim i'm rotating you in my head

steph comes back from africa and cass is gone and nobody has heard from her or found her for a year

some socialite is assassinated in gotham and tim and steph are searching for the assassin but every trail just leads closer to this assassin nobody has seen clearly before (them dressed + fighting like in red robin #10/ batgirl #8)

maybe onyx is there and helps them out and spots cass fighting and immediately alarm bells are ringing

"seriously? you're telling me you just let her—you just left her?"

"would you be able to find her? would you assume she would want you—us to chase her? blüdhaven is gone. you were gone. she was looking for her blood family. and..."

wait wait wait wait i just realized WHY is tim jason's reverse robin counterpart when STEPH is right there??

you mean there's a girl who has canonically been tortured to 'death' by a gotham rogue, has been told over and over again that she's incompetent, not enough, should put the mask down, that whatever she does is wrong and is narratively victim-blamed/ punished and she's not the mainstream reverse robins counterpart of red hood/ post-death jason?

anyways. i don't typically search out reverse robin stories but i would be really fascinated to see how steph would grapple with a character arc like jason's.

do you think, before ahsoka knew that anakin was vader, that she had nightmares of vader killing anakin? she followed what the naboo thought happened, that anakin died protecting his wife and unborn child(ren) from this menace that massacred the entire jedi temple? do you think she wondered how he'd rush into battle to fight vader only to be outmatched? do you think she thought of his lightsaber reflecting off vader's helmet? what about the look in his eyes? padmé was buried, do you think she wondered about what happened to anakin's body? do you think she looked for him?

i have such an unfortunate fondness for characters that the fandom likes to portray as the most unlikeable people ever. now this would not be a problem because this is not false (for some of them) but this is also coupled with my unfortunate specific want to have their horribleness portrayed in my very specific way that i enjoy it which leads to. problems (i scroll thro twenty pages full of fanfics and then am forced to read the woobified fanonized version of them)
