Losing Control (A Carlisle x BOC) -Chapter 3: Ripples of Doubt (part 2 of 2)
[Zuri's POV]
A fresh week dawned, bringing with it the usual rush of students hurrying across campus, clutching textbooks and coffee cups as if their lives depended on it. The autumn air was crisp, a sharp contrast to the soft warmth of the sun that kissed Zuri's deep brown skin as she made her way to meet Savani. They had a lot to discuss, and she was eager to get started.
When Zuri reached their usual spot beneath the large oak tree, Savani was already there, a grin plastered across her face. She waved her over, her notebook open on her lap.
"Hey, Z! I've been thinking," she began, barely giving Zuri time to settle down beside her. "What if we tie our paper into something bigger, like a philosophical concept? You know, to make it more intriguing."
Zuri raised a brow, intrigued despite herself. "Go on..."
"Okay, so hear me out," she said, leaning in conspiratorially. "You know how Dr. Cullen's seminar is all about cellular regeneration? Like, how the cells can potentially regenerate indefinitely under the right circumstances?"
"No, actually, I didn't know what his class was about. How did you- " Zuri is about to ask.
"I did some research this morning," Savani said with a quick dismissive wave of her hand. "What if we connect that idea to the concept of eternal love? Love that defies time and even death itself."
Zuri blinked, taken aback by the depth of her suggestion. "Eternal love... connected to cellular regeneration?"
"Exactly!" Savani's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Think about it, Z. What if love, real love, has the power to sustain life, to keep it going beyond the limits of our physical bodies? Maybe that's why some people seem to have these unexplainable connections like their souls are linked across lifetimes. It's like a biological phenomenon with a twist of the supernatural."
The idea struck a chord within Zuri, resonating in ways she hadn't expected. There was something poetic about it—love as the ultimate force, strong enough to transcend the mortal coil.
"So? What do you think?" Savani pressed impatiently.
"I love it," Zuri finally said, a smile creeping onto her face. "It's different, and it'll definitely stand out. Plus, it ties in perfectly with the themes of the literature we've been studying."
"Right? I knew you'd get it." Savani grinned triumphantly. "We'll blow everyone else's projects out of the water with this."
"You did your big one with this, girl." Zuri gave her friend a tight squeeze.
They spent the next hour brainstorming, jotting down notes and ideas for how to structure their paper. However, the more they discussed it, the more the concept seemed to branch out and lead them away from their main objective. They tried new angles and different perspectives but each lead to a brick wall or a neverending journey.
" Damn it!" Savani groaned in irritation. " Why the hell is this not working?!"
"It was YOUR idea." Zuri told her, rubbing circles into her temples.
"I know that, genius!" Savani snapped, throwing a frown her way.
"Ok, ok chill. Why don't we... take a break? We've been at it for almost, " Zuri looked at her watch. " Three hours. Let's get some food, some drink, and some air."
Savani nodded her agreement and they went to find somewhere to eat.
Time Skip
"Alright, let's try this again," Zuri said as they sat down to pick up where they left off.
"Wait, what time is it?" Savani asked. She rummaged through her bag to find her phone.
"1:30, why?" Zuri asked, beating her to it.
" Dr. Cullen's having a lecture in a little. I was thinking maybe we could pop in and ask for some help."
"Are we allowed to do that?"
"I don't see why not. It's not like he's doing the project for us." Savani shrugged.
"Well, what time does it start?"
"In about 3 minutes. We can make it if we run like really, really fast."
"What? Let's hurry then!" Zuri scrambled to clean up their stuff and soon they were dashing across campus to Dr. Cullen's lecture.
[Carlisle's POV]
Carlisle was more than surprised to see an out-of-breath Zuri and Savani crouching by the entrance of his lecture hall. Zuri's scent began flooding the room causing him to hyperfocus on her bent form. Why is she here? he thought to himself. As he stood at the front of the lecture hall, his hands clasped behind his back, but his focus was only on her. Zuri. The steady hum of student chatter filled the room as they settled in, but he hardly heard it. His mind fixated on the rhythm of Zuri's heartbeat and her sweet scent. He couldn't look away—her dark eyes widened as they met his intense gaze and she looked away quickly. She whispered to her friend before they sat down in the middle row.
This attraction was unsettling. It had been so long since he'd felt anything like this. Carlisle had spent centuries mastering control, distancing himself from human desires, but she was different. There was something about her, something that called to him on a primal level. His mind knew it was dangerous, irrational even, but his body—his very instincts—seemed determined to betray him.
He exhaled softly, forcing his focus back to the task at hand. Today's lecture was critical, an in-depth look at cellular regeneration and its implications for medical science. But even as he spoke, describing the complex mechanisms by which cells could potentially rejuvenate indefinitely, part of hi, was aware of how Zuri's presence lingered in his thoughts.
Carlisle couldn't ignore it—the way his senses heightened when she was near, the overpowering scent of her even as she just sat there unawares. The connection he felt was unlike anything he'd experienced in a very long time. It wasn't just physical attraction; it was something deeper, more consuming. And it terrified him.
As he continued the lecture, he noticed a few students exchanging glances, clearly absorbed in the discussion. But it was Zuri's face he kept searching for within the crowd. As he spoke, Carlisle noticed that Zuri was paying close attention, her eyes sharp and focused. He could almost feel her mind working, piecing together ideas. The thought of her delving deeper into the topic, combining it with her ideas, intrigued him more than he cared to admit.
Halfway through the lecture, Carlisle opened the floor to questions. To his mild surprise, it was Zuri who raised her hand first. He called on her, careful to keep his tone neutral.
"Dr. Cullen, your discussion on extending cellular regeneration made me think about the concept of eternal love. If we could halt the aging process, as you mentioned, could that also mean preserving someone's love indefinitely? Could love, like cells, be regenerated endlessly?"
Carlisle's breath caught for a moment at the unexpected depth of her question. It was a concept that had crossed his mind before, in different contexts. His immortal existence had often led him to ponder the sustainability of emotions, particularly love, across the endless years.
"That's an interesting question, Miss. Anders," he responded, carefully choosing his words. "In theory, if we were to extend cellular regeneration indefinitely, the body would maintain its youthful state, potentially allowing love—an emotion deeply tied to the physical and mental state—to endure as well. But love is complex, influenced not just by biology but by experience, memory, and the ever-changing self. While the physical form may be preserved, the question remains whether the essence of love can truly remain unchanged."
Zuri nodded thoughtfully, her expression unreadable. The class discussion soon moved on to other topics, but Carlisle couldn't shake the impact of her words. The idea of eternal love, inextricably linked to the concept of immortality, resonated deeply with him. It reminded him of his own existence, the eternal nature of his life, and the fleeting connections he'd made with others over time.
As the seminar came to a close, Carlisle found himself lingering, his gaze once again drawn to Zuri as she packed up her things. He could see her speaking to Savani, who looked equally engaged. Does she also think about me as much as I think about her?
Carlisle tried to shake off the thought but the tension remained, coiled tight within him. He couldn't afford to let this go further. He had a responsibility—to Esme, to his family, to the life he'd built over centuries. This infatuation, whatever it was, could only lead to ruin.
As the students began to file out, Zuri and Savani approached him, and Carlisle straightened, slipping back into his professional demeanor.
"Dr. Cullen," Savani began with her usual bright smile, "we've decided on our concept for the assignment. We're going to explore the idea of eternal love and how it ties in with the science of cellular regeneration. We think it'll make for an interesting paper."
Carlisle nodded, maintaining his calm exterior. "That's a fascinating approach. There's a lot of potential in that concept. I look forward to seeing how you develop it."
Zuri met his gaze again, her expression soft but determined. "We were wondering if we could discuss our ideas with you further sometime this week, outside of class. We want to make sure we're on the right track."
There it was—the opportunity he had been both dreading and yearning for. The chance to spend more time with her, to delve deeper into a subject that held both scientific and personal significance.
"Of course," Carlisle replied, his voice betraying none of the internal conflict he felt. "We can arrange a time to meet later this week. Just send me an email, and we'll figure out a schedule."
Savani thanked him enthusiastically, while Zuri simply smiled, a gesture that somehow managed to unravel him further. As they left, Carlisle stood alone in the empty lecture hall, his thoughts racing. The tension within him was growing, his attraction to Zuri becoming harder to ignore. Yet, he knew he had to maintain his distance, for both their sakes.
But as the door closed behind them, Carlisle couldn't help but wonder how long he could keep this delicate balance before everything crashed. Still, even knowing that didn't make it any easier to resist.

Losing Control (A Carlisle x BOC) - Chapter 3: Ripples of Doubt (part 1 of 2)
**[Zuri's POV]**
The fluorescent lights of the dorm hallway flickered overhead as Savani and Zuri trudged back from class. The day had been long, and she was ready to collapse on her bed, maybe binge-watch something mindless to unwind. But Savani had other plans. She practically skipped beside Zuri, her excitement palpable, and she knew exactly what—or who—was on her mind.
"Dr. Cullen is *fine*," Savani exclaimed, drawing out the word as she pushed open the door to their shared dorm room. "Like, it's not fair he gets the brains and the looks."
Zuri rolled her eyes, tossing her backpack onto her bed. "He's just a professor, Savani."
"And a surgeon," Savani added.
"And rich."
"Well... maybe." Savani paused and gave Zuri a pointed look. " Fine, that too. Still, you're acting like he's some movie star or something."
"Well. He IS famous..."
"Locally."
"So?"
Zuri shook her head.
Flopping onto her bed with a dramatic sigh, Savani added, "And did you see the way he was looking at you earlier?"
Zuri felt her cheeks warm at the memory, though she quickly shook shook head. "He wasn't looking at me any kind of way. He was just lost, and we helped him find his classroom. That's it."
Savani sat up, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Oh, come on, Z. He was totally checking you out. I mean, I wouldn't blame him—look at you."
"Stop it," Zuri said, trying to sound stern, but the heat in her cheeks betrayed her. "Dr. Cullen is a professional. He's not interested in some undergrad who happened to cross his path."
But Savani wasn't having it. She grinned, waggling her eyebrows at Zuri. "You never know, Z. Stranger things have happened. Maybe he's got a thing for smart, beautiful girls with a passion for literature."
She groaned, pulling a pillow over her face to block out her teasing. "You're ridiculous, you know that?"
"And you're in denial," she shot back, laughing. "But seriously, did you feel something when he looked at you? Like, anything?"
Zuri hesitated, the memory of his piercing gaze flashing through her mind. There had been something—some kind of spark that she couldn't quite explain. But she pushed the thought aside, shaking her head even though she couldn't see it.
"No," she replied firmly, pulling the pillow down to look at her. "I didn't feel anything. He's just... intense, I guess. Probably because he's so passionate about his work."
Savani gave her a look that said she didn't believe her for a second, but thankfully, she didn't press the issue. Instead, she flopped back onto her bed, staring up at the ceiling with a dreamy sigh.
"Well, if you're not interested, I might just have to shoot my shot," she teased. "I mean, who wouldn't want to be on Dr. Cullen's radar?"
Zuri laughed and shook her head. "Good luck with that. I'm sure he's way too focused on his research to notice anything else."
"Hmm," she hummed noncommittally, her expression thoughtful. "Maybe. But a girl can dream, right?"
Zuri smiled, but as Savani's teasing subsided, her thoughts drifted back to Dr. Cullen. There had been something in the way he looked at her, something that sent a strange shiver down her spine. But it was probably just her imagination running wild. He was a doctor, a man with a serious career and more important things on his mind than some random English major.
Still, as Zuri got ready for bed and settled under the covers, she couldn't help but wonder. Was there really something in his gaze, or was she just letting Savani's fantasies get to her? She told herself it didn't matter, that she had more important things to focus on—like her upcoming project and classes.
But as she drifted off to sleep, Dr. Cullen's face lingered in Zuri's mind, his honey-golden eyes watching her from the shadows of her dreams.

Losing Control ( A Carlisle Cullen x BOC Story (Chapter 2: The Struggle Begins (Part 2 of 2)
[Carlisle's POV]
The sun had long since dipped below the horizon, casting the university campus in shadow. Carlisle's lecture had ended hours ago, but he lingered in the empty classroom, his thoughts a tangled web of memories and emotions. He should have felt satisfaction after a successful first day, but instead, a strange disquiet gnawed at him.
Zuri.
Her name whispered through his mind, as persistent as the hunger that simmered just beneath the surface. He had tried to ignore it, to push it aside, but she had taken root in his thoughts, a constant presence that he couldn't shake. And it wasn't just her blood that called to him—it was something more, something deeper.
*This isn't right.*
He exhaled slowly, gathered his things and left the classroom. The campus was quiet now, the usual hustle and bustle replaced by the soft rustle of leaves in the evening breeze. As Carlisle walked, he pulled out his phone, his fingers moving instinctively to call home. It had become a ritual of sorts—these nightly calls to check in with his family, to remind himself of who he was and what mattered.
The phone rang only once before Alice's bright voice answered, "Carlisle! I was just thinking about you."
A small smile tugged at his lips. "Is that so? Or did you see me calling in one of your visions?"
"Both," she replied, her tone playful. "How's Georgia treating you?"
"Well enough," he answered, though his voice was laced with a tinge of doubt that didn't go unnoticed by Alice. "The seminar is going smoothly, and the students are eager to learn. It's... different, being away from home, but I'm managing."
Alice was silent for a moment, and he could almost picture her brow furrowing in concern. "You don't sound like yourself, Carlisle. Is something wrong?"
He hesitated, unsure how to answer. How could he explain what he was feeling when he himself barely understood it? The pull toward Zuri, the way her presence lingered in hid mind even now—it was all so unprecedented, so unsettling.
Before he could respond, Alice spoke again, her voice softer now. "Whatever it is, you know we're here for you. Esme misses you terribly, you know."
A pang of guilt shot through him at the mention of Esme. She had always been his anchor, his unwavering support through centuries of turmoil. But since meeting Zuri, he wasn't sure about telling her about Zuri or the strange and powerful connection he felt, even though the omission weighed heavily on him.
"I miss her too," Carlisle said quietly, though the words felt hollow. He did miss Esme—more than he could express—but there was an undeniable rift forming between them, one that would grow bigger as time passed, especially now with Zuri in the mix.
"You should call her," Alice suggested gently. "It might help."
"Yes, I will," he promised, though a part of him dreaded the conversation. "How is everyone else? How are things in Forks?"
"Oh, the usual," Alice said with a lightness that made him smile. "Edward and Bella have been homeschooling Renesmee, Jasper's been reading a lot lately, and Emmett's causing mischief wherever he can. And Rosalie... well, she's Rosalie."
Carlisle chuckled softly, the familiar banter easing some of the tension in his chest. "And you? How are you, Alice? Is there anything on the horizon I should be on the lookout for?"
"I'm fine. Everything is.. fine," she said, though there was a hint of something in her voice that made him wonder if she was holding something back. But before he could ask, she added, "Just promise me you'll take care of yourself, Carlisle. We all need you."
The sincerity in her voice struck a chord within him, and he nodded, though she couldn't see it. "I will. Thank you, Alice."
They exchanged a few more pleasantries before hanging up, and as he slipped the phone back into his pocket, he found himself standing outside his apartment building. The night air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of pine and earth. He stood there for a moment, staring up at the darkened windows, trying to gather the courage to make the next call. Finally, he dialed Esme's number, the familiar sound of her voice greeting him after a few rings.
"Carlisle," she breathed, and the warmth in her voice was like a balm to his soul. "I'm so glad you called."
"I'm sorry I took so long. It's been a whirlwind of a day." He began, but she cut him off gently.
"It's okay," she said. "I know you're busy, and I understand. How are you holding up?"
He hesitated, the words catching in his throat. How could he tell her about the turmoil inside of him, about the inexplicable connection he felt to another woman? He couldn't—*wouldn't*—hurt her like that. But the silence stretched on, and he knew she could sense his unease.
"Carlisle," she said softly, her voice tinged with worry. "Is everything all right?"
"I... I'm fine, Esme," he lied, forcing a smile that she couldn't see. "It's just... different here. Being away from you, from the family, it's harder than I expected."
There was a pause, and when she spoke again, her voice was barely above a whisper. "I miss you too, Carlisle. More than you know."
The guilt gnawed at him, a heavyweight in his chest. "I'll be home soon," I promised, though the words felt uncertain. "This seminar won't last forever."
"I know," she replied, and he could hear the smile in her voice.
He loved Esme with all his heart, and he would do anything to protect what they had. But the doubts lingered, shadowing his thoughts, and he knew that things between them were not as simple as they once were. At least he could pretend until he could no longer. They talked a little longer, exchanging stories and updates, but the conversation felt strained, the unspoken tension hanging between them.
When they finally said their goodbyes, Carlisle felt more alone than ever, the quiet of the night pressing in around him. As he made his way up to his apartment, the weight of the day settled heavily on his shoulders. He couldn't deny that things were changing, that his feelings for Zuri—however inexplicable—were complicating everything. But he didn't know how to stop it, how to return to the life he had known before. And so, he was left with nothing but questions, doubts, and the faintest hint of hope that somehow, he would find his way through the darkness.

Losing Control ( A Carlisle Cullen x BOC Story (Chapter 2: The Struggle Begins (Part 1 of 2)
Thanks for reading! Please let me know your thoughts in the comments. Thanks!
[Zuri's POV]
The buzz of the campus faded as Zuri stepped into the cool, quiet sanctuary of the English literature classroom. The familiar scent of old books and ink greeted her, a comforting contrast to the chaos of the day. She took her usual seat near the window, pulling out her notebook and pens, ready to immerse herself in the world of words and stories. Savani had been full of chatter as they walked to class, still gushing about Dr. Cullen. Zuri couldn't deny that he was... intriguing. There was something about him, something in the way he carried himself, that was different from anyone she'd ever met. But as soon as she sat down, she pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. She needed to focus. Professor Andrews entered the room with his usual air of scholarly authority, setting his briefcase on the desk with a soft thud. He was a middle-aged man with salt-and-pepper hair and a penchant for tweed jackets. His lectures were always engaging, and filled with passion for the subject that made even the driest topics come alive.
"Good afternoon, everyone," he began, his voice carrying easily across the room. "I trust you've all been keeping up with the reading?"
A murmur of agreement rippled through the class, and Zuri nodded along. They had been delving into the Romantic poets lately—Byron, Keats, Shelley—and she had found herself captivated by their exploration of emotion, nature, and the sublime.
"Excellent," Professor Andrews continued, glancing around the room. "Today, however, I want to introduce you to a different kind of assignment."
Her curiosity piqued, Zuri leaned forward slightly, eager to hear more.
"As many of you know, our university is hosting a special seminar series this year, led by visiting scholars from various fields," Professor Andrews explained. " Your assignment is to attend one of the seminars and analyze the parallels between the works of mentioned scholars and themes from the literature we've been studying."
A ripple of excitement passed through the room, and she couldn't help but feel a thrill of anticipation. This was different from their usual assignments—more challenging, and more engaging.
"You'll be working in pairs for this assignment," Professor Andrews added, looking around the room. "I'll let you choose your partners, but remember, this will require a great deal of collaboration, so choose wisely."
Savani, who was seated across the room, immediately caught Zuri's eye and grinned. She knew she'd be keen to partner with her. And Zuri couldn't think of anyone else she'd rather work with. They'd done group projects together before, and their dynamic always worked well—her outgoing nature balanced out Zuri's more reserved approach. As soon as Professor Andrews gave the nod, Savani was at her side, sliding into the seat next to Zuri with a wide grin.
"So, partner? You know we'll totally ace this assignment."
Zuri laughed softly, nodding. " Well, normally, I would have agreed but... I have a feeling you'll be more focused on a certain doctor rather than the actual assignment."
"Can you blame me?" Savani replied, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Besides, you can handle the writing stuff. I'll take care of getting us all the inside info from Dr. Hotstuff."
Zuri rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a smile. Savani's enthusiasm was infectious, and despite the teasing, she knew she would put in the effort where it mattered. As Professor Andrews continued outlining the details of the assignment, her mind drifted back to the brief encounter with Dr. Cullen. There was something about him—something beyond his looks and reputation—that had stuck with her. Maybe it was the way he had looked at her, like he was seeing something beyond the surface. But whatever it was, she couldn't let it distract her. This assignment was important, and she was determined to give it her all. Analyzing the intersection of literature and medicine wasn't exactly in Zuri's wheelhouse, but that was part of what made it exciting. Not to mention, she knew she wouldn't hear the end of it from Savani for choosing another guest over Dr. Cullen.
As the class ended, Savani and Zuri gathered their things, already discussing their plan of action. They had decided to attend one of Dr. Cullen's upcoming lectures together, take notes, and then brainstorm ideas over coffee afterward. It would be the perfect blend of business and pleasure—or so Savani assured her. But as they stepped out into the bustling corridor, she couldn't shake the indescribable feeling that came over her. She glanced at Savani, who was still chatting excitedly about their plans and allowed herself a small smile. Whatever was coming, she knew she'd face it together. And as for Dr. Cullen... well, she'd just have to see where that path would lead.

Losing Control ( A Carlisle Cullen x BOC Story (Chapter 1: The Meeting)
The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue over the campus of Southern University. Students were scattered across the quad, some lounging on the grass with textbooks, others hurrying to their next class. Among them was Zuri, a 19-year-old English major with a passion for literature that was only matched by her curiosity about the world. Walking beside her was her best friend, Savani, who had a knack for making even the most mundane days exciting.
"Seriously, Zuri, how can you be this calm about today?" Savani teased, nudging Zuri's arm. "You're about to meet *the* Dr. Cullen. He's practically a legend!"
Zuri shrugged, adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder. "He's just a doctor, Savani. And I'm an English major, remember? I'm not even in his seminar."
"Yeah, but you have to admit, the man is hot. I'm tempted to fake being pre-med just to get a chance to be in the same room with him." Savani grinned, tossing her braids over her shoulder with a playful flick.
Zuri rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips. Savani's antics never failed to amuse her. "I'm sure you're not the only one thinking that. But let's not get lost in daydreams. We've got ten minutes to get to class, and you know Professor Andrews hates tardiness."
They rounded a corner, the old brick buildings of the university towering above them. Zuri was lost in thought about the paper she needed to finish when she suddenly collided with something—or rather, someone. A soft gasp escaped her lips as she stumbled back, only to be steadied by a pair of strong hands.
"I'm terribly sorry," a deep, smooth voice said. Zuri looked up, her breath catching in her throat as she met the gaze of a tall, strikingly handsome man. His golden eyes held a warmth she hadn't expected, and his presence seemed to command the air around him.
"It's—it's okay," Zuri stammered, feeling heat rise to her cheeks. She quickly stepped back, realizing she had been holding her breath. Savani, ever the bold one, immediately jumped in.
"No harm done! You're Dr. Cullen, right? The new professor everyone's been talking about?"
Carlisle Cullen offered a polite smile, inclining his head slightly. "Yes, that would be me. I'm afraid I've gotten a bit turned around. This campus is larger than I anticipated. I'm looking for Lecture Hall C."
Zuri blinked, still trying to process how she had literally run into one of the most talked-about professors on campus. Savani, however, was already in full flirtation mode.
"Lecture Hall C? You're in luck because we were just heading that way," Savani said with a wink. "We can show you around if you'd like."
Carlisle smiled graciously, though there was a subtle tension in his expression that Zuri couldn't quite place. "That would be very kind of you, thank you."
As they walked, Zuri noticed the strange way the doctor looked in her direction, and0b. L her heart skipped a beat. It was unnerving, yet oddly thrilling.
"So, Dr. Cullen," Savani began, her voice dripping with playful charm, "I hear you're quite the expert in your field. What made you decide to leave Forks and come all the way to Georgia?"
Carlisle glanced at Savani, his smile polite, but Zuri caught the brief flicker of something in his eyes when they shifted to her.
"I've always believed in the importance of sharing knowledge, especially with young minds eager to make a difference in the world. This opportunity seemed like the perfect way to do that."
Savani leaned a little closer to him as they walked, her voice lowering conspiratorially. "Well, you're certainly going to make an impression here. A lot of students are already talking about you."
Zuri bit her lip to keep from laughing. Savani was laying it on thick, and she could see that while Carlisle was polite, he wasn't exactly taking the bait. But then, something unexpected happened. Carlisle's eyes met Zuri's again, and she felt a strange pull, like something deep inside her was responding to him in a way she couldn't understand. Carlisle, on the other hand, was struggling with something far more intense. The moment Zuri had collided with him, something inside him had shifted. His body had reacted—his heart, long thought still, had given a single, potent thump. It wasn't just an attraction. It was more primal, more profound. His blood felt like it was rushing in his veins, a sensation he hadn't experienced in centuries. He was a doctor, a man of science, well, a vampire actually... a husband and father. And yet, he couldn't deny how every fiber of his being was screaming at him for this young woman he'd just barely met a few minutes earlier. Zuri, with eyes big and brown and bright, seemed to pierce through his very soul, shedding light on the deepest, darkest, coldest parts he tried hard to push down. He felt vulnerable under her gaze and yet he wanted her to only look at him.
"I... I believe we're here," Carlisle said, his voice slightly strained as he forced his attention back to their surroundings. They had arrived at the entrance to Lecture Hall C.
"Right on time," Zuri said, trying to sound casual, though her heart was still racing. "Well, Dr. Cullen, I guess this is where we part ways."
"Yes, thank you both for your help." Carlisle's gaze lingered on Zuri a moment longer, a silent question in his eyes that he couldn't answer just yet. " I don't think I ever got a name, though."
"Savani Mikellson and Zuri Anders." Savani answered, flashing him one last flirtatious smile. "And if you ever need anything else—directions or otherwise—you can find us in Lecture Hall B, room 302."
Carlisle nodded politely, but as he turned to enter the lecture hall, his thoughts were far from focused on his upcoming class. Zuri Anders ... What had fate just dropped into his path?
Zuri and Savani watched as he disappeared into the building, and then Savani let out a low whistle. "Well, that was... something. Did you see the way he kept looking at you? I think someone's got a crush."
Zuri shook her head, trying to dismiss the fluttering in her chest. "He was just being nice, Savani. Nothing more." But even as she said it, she knew she didn't quite believe it. There had been something in his eyes. Something she couldn't quite put into words.
"Come on, we're going to be late," Zuri said, trying to shake off the strange feeling as she tugged Savani along.

Fresh In Love- A Loki FanFic
Chapter 1: Issues
Cheyenne was the "new kid" at her school as she had just recently transferred from her old one. Immediately, she could tell she didn't fit in with everyone else. Feather Heights High was a prestigeous school for the rich and Cheyenne was nothing of the sort. When the other students dug up some information on her, as she didn't talk much about herself or at all, they found out the only reason she was even attending the school was because her mother was the headmaster's new "plaything". That began the torture of her last year of high school. She figured afterwards, she'd move to another quieter place where she didn't have to talk to anyone. The worst of the bullying came from the girls in the Honors classes. Oh they hated her guts, not just because of her status, but because she seemed to attract the attention of the hottest guy in the school, Loki. Oh, he was definitely the heartstopper that everyone made him out to be but Cheyenne did everything in her power to stay away. Not because the other girls wanted her to, but because she never wanted to get involved with guys romantically. She never wanted to fall in love. Not after what it did to her family. However, it seemed Loki had other plans as he would never let her be. He'd tease her, give her surprise hugs, play with her hair, try to feed her... basically anything to get a reaction out of her but she wouldn't fold. At first, it was very annoying, especially after the bullying worsened from the Honors girls. But when Loki found out she was being bullied by a group of Honors girls and a few boys, he made a public show of mocking each of them rather harshly. Ever since, he stuck by her side more so than before, daring anyone to step out of line while he was there. No one did. Deep down she appreciated his looking out for her but she knew it could never go beyond that. Or can it?
"Hey there, Shyness," Loki greets her as usual, calling her by his nickname for her. She gives him a small wave. " Thought I might have to come to your house and drag you out."She shakes her head. "Well, now that you're here, we can go to class." And right on cue, the bell starts to ring. He grabs her hand and interlocks his fingers with hers. She looks down wide-eyed at their joined hands and make to move away. However his grip on her hand tightens slightly so she can't move it away. Her panicked eyes reach his and he looks at her with that devilish grin that makes her face burn and stomach flutter. No, she scolds herself."Come, we'll be late. " He says, gesturing towards the class. She sighs and nods. His grin stretches to a full on smile as they start walking. He swings their hands between them happily until they reach the door. Once again she tries to break away before entering, but his grip is strong as he pulls her into the classroom. He leads her through a sea of seething girls towards two empty seats. One girl kicks her foot out, tripping Cheyenne so she falls forward. Luckily, Loki catches ber before she fell to the ground. After making sure she is okay, he turns to the girl and gives her a deadly glare. "Try that again, Jenny, and I'll-" " You'll what? Hit me?" she taunts. flirtatiously. " Yes, please, Daddy."The other students laugh and whistle at her comment.Loki just sighs. " Don't you have an ounce of decency and respect for yourself?"Jenny huffs. " What's your deal with her anyway?" " That's none of your concern."" Yeah, Loki, just fuck her already. She won't say no. " A boy in the back interjects, earning high fives from his buddies.Cheyenne sees the way Loki's body tenses up. "Raymond, I suggest you not speak of Cheyenne that way. I can ruin the reputation of Jenny and any other girl in this room... well what little they haven't tainted already. However, I will not hesitate to set you straight with my fists. That goes for any guy in this room."Cheyenne keeps her head down throughout the class and when the first bell rings, she darts out of the class. Unfortunately, Loki is close behind. " Cheyenne! Wait up for me!" With his long legs, it didn't take long for him to catch up. " What's the rush, Shyness?" She only shakes her head and keeps walking. " Did I do something?" he asks, grabbing her arm and yanking her to a stop. Again, she just shakes her head. "Well, what's wrong?"" Have to get to class. Bye."" We'll talk after."Cheyenne goes to the only class she doesn't have with Loki, and quickly walks to her seat at the back of the class. Instantly, she sees a rather descriptive drawing of what appears to be her cut up inside a trash bag. Underneath the picture, it reads in cursive letters, " Give him up or there will be consequences."Cheyenne looks around, hands trembling and lip quivering in fear. No one seems to be looking at her though she can swear they all have knowing smirks on their faces. She can hardly focus on the lecture as the beat of her racing heart drums in her ears. " Miss Reese. Miss Reese. Hello? Class is dismissed." Cheyenne blinks, then slowly starts to gather her things. Instead of going to her next class, she goes to the nurses office and tells the nice nurse that she's not feeling well. Afterwards, she's sent home where she hides in her room for the rest of the day.

Chapter 2: The Hunt
For the first week in Forks, Talia eagerly explored the small town and made herself familiar with the area. She didn't know how she was going to ease her way in without any money or support but she was determined. Until then, she spent her nights sleeping in the trees and small burrows in the forest. No it wasn't comfortable, far from it actually, and the rain was abysmal. Still she managed to get a few precious moments of sleep. Well, that is when the barking of dogs in the distance and yelling men didn't wake her. She wondered what they were even doing up so late at night. However, her sleepiness wouldn't allow her to dwell on it any further and she'd fall asleep.
One day, as she had settled down in her burrow, she felt a shiver run along her spine, as if her body was warning her of a looming danger. She tried to shake it off but couldn't. Her instincts were never wrong and that's all she had in such an unfamiliar territory. So, with that in mind, she took out a hunting knife that she'd "borrowed" during her trip and layed down with it in her grasp. She positioned her body so that she was able to attack easily. She waited and waited and waited, her eyes squinting in the dark of the night. Every whoosh of wind and crunch of leaf caught her attention. But, after a few hours, her eyes grew heavy and before she knew it, she was fast asleep. Her grip on the knife slackened as she succumbed more and more into her sleepiness and all the sounds around her melted into a soft hum. All was fine until louds whoops and laughter, and the beating of rushed steps jolted her awake. Talia retreated farther back into her burrow, hoping not to be seen, but it was too late.

"Well, well, well... what do we have here?" A smooth yet sinister for questioned. Talia watched as a pair of legs stopped in front of her hiding spot. "You guys smell that?"
The others agreed with a bout of cold snickers and laughs. She could here them audibly sniff the air and desperately hoped they weren't what she thought they were.
" Come on out, bunny." The same voice cooed evilly. " You smell... exquisite. It's driving me crazy!"
Shit, shit, shit! Talia's heart sank. They definitely weren't human and she was in no state to fight Downworlders.
"I can hear your heart pounding, bunny." the man said in a sing-song voice. "All that new blood running through your body. I just want a taste. Pretty please?"
"James, lemme just get them." A woman's voice pleaded.
"No, Victoria. This one's special. " The man, James, asked into the dark. His boots turned to face the opening of Talia's burrow. "You wanna play a game, little bunny?"
"James, the hunters. The dogs are coming closer, from the east." Another male's voice warned.
Ignoring the man, James continues, " How about I count to twenty... very slowly... and you run? Run as far and fast as you can. "
Talia gripped her knife and shifted herself so she could take off.
"James, we don't have time for this."
"Relax, Laurent," James chuckled. " This won't take long. It's dark out."
He backed away from the entrance of the burrow, giving a wide girth for Talia to run.
"Ready, bunny?"
Soon as the first number rested on his lips, Talia shot out of the burrow and raced towards the sound of dogs, fear fueling her legs to pump faster. Twisting and turning through the darkness of the trees, trying not to trip. She just hoped she could get close enough that their presence would scare off the sadistic vampires. Behind her, she could hear their maniacal laughter and James' slow counting. Please, please, please, she chanted in her mind desperately. I can't die like this!
She'd probably gotten a little over 2 miles in before she heard the snapping of branches and laughter gaining on her. What's worse, her lungs were screaming for air, her bones for rest, and her body for nourishment. Talia couldn't keep running for long.
"I'm coming, bunny!" James teased dangerously. "Isn't this fun?!"
I'm not going to make it, she thought even as she pushed her body to keep running. The barking had gotten closer but was still too far away to be a threat to them. She'd be drained and discarded in less than a second before they reached her. Just then, she tripped over a large root and fell face first into the dirt. She scrambled to get her but two large, cold hands twisted her around and she was forced to face her hunter.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Game over, bunny." James said. "I had fun though."
"Please.." Talia whimpered.
James cocked his head. " Don't worry bunny. For you, I'll make it painless."
"No, no, no!" Talia screamed as James slowly loomed closer. " No, no, no, nooooo!!!!"
Still, she couldn't escape. He slowly yet mercilessly sank his fangs into her skin eliciting a ear piercing screech from her lips. Bit by bit, she felt the warmth being sucked from her body as she thrashed and clawed in his grip. No, I can;t go like this. I can't, I can't!
Suddenly, a great force shoved off his massive weight and the sounds of growls, barks, and hisses. From the corner of her eye, Talia could make out the thrashing and wrestling figures. Werewolves, she thought. They're werewolves. Just then, Talia felt herself being lifted and quickly carried away from the scene. Her body was as heavy as lead and racked with shivers. Before she knew it, she'd blacked out.

Run Away Girl
Nothing's ever easy in life but being a Shadowhunter sucked. Talia RiverBane couldn't imagine living out the rest of her life constantly training, fighting with demons, or trying tosomehow maintain the peace between Shadowhunters and Downworlders when they clearly hate each others' guts. There's been so much tension between them that war was just a whisper away from breaking out. However, Talia doesn't plan on sticking around long enough to see it go down or even participate in it. She'd been planning on making her exit for years, and the time had come. That night, she had gathered all of her things from her room, which wasn't much, and packed two separate bags. One was to burn, the other was to take with her on her journey. Shadowhunters could use them to trace back to her and she had no intentions of being found.
As for where she'd go, she'd heard of a small town called Forks in Washington all the way across country. No Shadowhunters, no Downworlders, No demons.. just peace and the promise of a new life. No, she didn't expect things to go right 100% and life wouldn't be perfect... she'd have to figure out what to tell people when they ask about her life. However, that was something she'd have to worry about later. One thing at a time, Lia, she told herself. First things first, covering my tracks. And with that, she set out to find a quiet place to burn her belongings. She even learned how to weaken her runes so she couldn't be tracked using those either.

Talia had the rest of that evening and the coming night to get as far away from the institute as she could... or before they caught on that she was missing. With all the tension, the Clave mandated a curfew for most Shadowhunters. If she were caught... she couldn't even imagine what would happen. She just knew she couldn't let it happen. Talia kept moving, making sure not to stop or talk to anyone. Getting by the humans was easy enough, she just used her glammer and they wouldn't see her coming. This came in handy when she needed to hop a bus or grab a bite to eat, though she did have moments of guilt for doing it. The first day on the road was Hell to say the least. She was wracked with paranoia and stayed awake to watch over her shoulder. The 2nd and 3rd day were no better. After about a week she'd made it to Forks! Finally! Thank you, thank you! She didn't know who she was thanking but she was just so relieved to have made it without interference. However, even as haggard and tired as she was, she couldn't stop just yet. SHe had to figure out how to get settled in. Lucky for her, she was very creative and resourceful. She knew she'd be able to make it work now that the hard part was over.

Unwanted Guests
You had just stepped out of the shower, steam rolled off your body and filled the small space of your bathroom. After a long, nice and hot shower, you felt more than refreshed and ready to start the day. Quickly, you wrapped yourself in your favorite fuzzy mint green towel to try and retain some of the heat from the bath. Just then, you heard a piercing screech from downstairs.
"Loki?!" You called out, voice full of concern. The screams continued and you swung the bathroom door open and raced out of your bedroom. On the way out, you stubbed your toe against the door frame, so as you hobble down the steps you cursed your throbbing toe.
"Loki?!" You called again. " I'm coming!"
But as you reached the bottom step, you're greeted with a hilarious sight. Well, almost anyway. If it weren't for Loki, paled face and perched on top of the table with his eyes gaped open in alert. You immediately wondered what could have him so horrified.
" Stay back!" Loki commanded from his spot on top of the table. " Don't take another step."
" Loki, what- " You tried again, but he interrupted once more.
" There!" He pointed to the floor in front of him.
"What?" You asked, clearly not seeing what he was pointing at.
" Gods above, don't you see it?!" He jabbed his finger in the same direction. " It's moving, for heaven's sake!"
You could feel laughter building up inside you at his growing stress. You knew it wasn't really funny, but seeing him like that just made it so funny. Then you finally saw it. A small dot quickly making its way to the wall. He finally looked at you, momentarily forgetting his fear as he saw you in your towel, water droplets still dotting your skin and dripping from your hair. Just as he was about to say something slick and flirty, you say something first.
"It's a spider." You said blankly. You couldn't believe he was making such a fuss about it. "Wait... you're afraid of a spider?"
It was his turn to blink.
" The thing you were just screeching about?" You reminded him pointedly.
" I was not screeching. I was alarming you of immediate danger very loudly."
" You were definitely screeching. I thought you were dying or something. But, no, it was just a spider. A small one at that. "
"Is that what you call those ghastly creatures?" He asked, raising a slender brow in your direction. Then he shook his head. " More importantly, why aren't you more afraid of them?"
At this, you had to laugh. The entire situation was so ridiculous you could no longer keep it in.
"Why are you laughing, Mortal?" He snapped, reverting back to his usual name for you when he's irritated with you. " Stop it! You should be getting rid of them!"
" I'm sorry. It's just, you know, you're this almighty God and you're afraid of a tiny spider?" You laughed some more.
" A spider? You think I'm afraid of a single spider?"
Your laughter died down. " Uh, what do you mean?"
" Darling, you have an infestation. I think I found the nest underneath the sink in the kitchen. They all started flooding out when I opened it to look for the sugar."
You blinked. " Sugar? Why would you-"
" I don't know my way around your mortal kitchens yet." He said, waving his hand dismissively.
" Who puts sugar underneath the sink?" You asked him.
" That is not important right now."
" You're right, " you said, looking around nervously. " but once I figure this situation out, we're gonna revisit this again."
" With your inferior mortal memory, let us pray you forget soon. " He mumbled under his breath.
" Let's pretend I didn't hear that. " You said, while rolling your eyes. " Anyways, let me go upstairs and call the exterminator."
" You're going to leave me behind to fend myself against these horrid creatures?"
You looked at him confused. "I'm not stopping you from coming along."
" Yes, I'm aware of that, but..." he looked tentively at the ground just as another spider dashed underneath the table." Good heavens just hurry."
You saluted him and ran upstairs to dress and call an exterminator. You also weren't thrilled by the idea of a spider infestation in your cute apartment and wanted to be rid of them as soon as possible.
