Summary:

Clark is happy.

He’s a part of the world and helping it. He’s surrounded by friends and loved ones. And he’s learning more about himself every day. He was truly happy for once in his life, in a way that was fleeting after his powers started coming in.

Clark wouldn’t ask for more, but he can’t deny he still feels alone in the universe.

But the choice to change that is not a choice he’s given. His choice, as always, comes after the fall.

I realize I should have added some tags in the first promo so y’all would’ve had a better picture of what I was writing and so I didn't just dump them all here. I did make sure to extensively tag and add notes to certain chapters. For clarification it is a happy ending and there is a lot of 'team as a family'. I'm too fluffy to not have a brightside to this.

Shondra shrugs off Corben’s hold the moment she’s inside the red lit room. She knows he let her, and that rankles her more than the smarmy grin he gives her. Turning away from the psychotic mercenary, her expression almost breaks. “Does my patient need to be restrained?” Shondra asks blandly, clutching her clipboard tighter as she hides her anger on the hero’s behalf. Abusers thrived on knowing that they had successes in besting you, but if you controlled it, they were the ones annoyed. It never led to anything good, but being able to lord that over them in the relative safety of one’s own mind was sometimes enough to make it through. Superman barely had any decency, only a medium-sized towel over his lower body with his wrists bound to the table at his sides. His legs were up and open in the stirrups, except manacles were latched around his ankles, holding him there. And as if being bound in such a vulnerable position wasn’t bad enough, it was woefully unpleasant to see Luthor stand over him, tapping the table as he just looks down at Superman with a flat smile, the hero steadfastly looking towards the other wall. “Sorry doc, you know how much of a flight risk he is.” Luthor jokes with a nonchalant smile and suddenly Shondra has to hold back tears from welling up at the sick display she’s been forced to play in. “Right.” She whispers to herself. She then forces herself to take a step towards Superman. And another, and another, until she’s in his eyeline, the man’s vacant gaze focusing up at her. It’s barely a thought then as she sinks down to her knees, some light coming back to his eyes at probably seeing someone for the first time since he’s been here not loom over him. “Superman.” She greets him with a half-there smile. “Doctor.” He says back. Inhaling and exhaling sharply through her nose, Shondra rests back on her hunches and focuses solely on her patient that needs her the most right now.

This is a promo for a fic I will be posting January 31 at 12 EST, and it will be an end of the month update. It’s a bit of an epic, but I’m super excited to share this fic I’ve been working on since mid-summer 2024. It’s a bit of a shift from my usual work, but I was inspired and really felt the urge to write this story that takes a more angst bend. It will still have my comfort and introspection, can’t get rid of that 😉, but I wanted to delve deeper into some harder topics and responses to it. I don’t want to give too much away, but have a softish snippet of what I’m writing;

“Taking a break?” Spinning around and looking up, Clark smiles down at him from where he was floating, cross-legged, by the highest curve of the wall. “Something like that. Even computers need to rest.” He huffs self-deprecating, because no matter how human he makes himself look he’ll never be ‘him’ again. Looking up as Clark lands in front of him, he rests a solid hand on his right shoulder, “And people too. Just like you.” The sincerity a little too real for him right now, but Clark doesn’t take offense when Vic shrugs out of the hold. “I liked your choice,” Quirking his one eyebrow, Clark smiles as he walks back over to the console, “Solitude. I think it’s a good descriptor for it now.” His left resting almost comforting on the edge of the console. “Oh… Cool.” Wishing he was wearing his sweats so he could stick his hands into them, feeling more exposed than he already really was. Shutting that thought down immediately, “So what were you doing earlier? Looking at those anatomical models?” Clark turns to him, but stops halfway, staring down the length of it with a flat expression. He lifts the datapad in his right, tapping it lightly against the metal, the two types making a harmonic hum instead of the faint clanging he expects. “I wanted to know,” He settles on, his brow furrowing then, “But now I want to figure out if there was anything special – Physiology-wise – that helped besides the … Beside the Mother Box.” “That it wasn’t a fluke,” Victor answers, words he thought himself finally coming to light, “That it wasn’t just choices made out of your control.” And he got it. He really, unfortunately, did.

So for anyone that doesn’t know, Metropolis has two other heroes and staples of the Superfamily, John Henry Irons and Natasha Irons.

Both go by Steel at different times in the comics, but to stop confusion I’ve named Nat as Titanium in my series, The Superboy Files.

She makes an appearance in the DCAU in STAS ep ‘Heavy Metal’

and in the Justice League Unlimited comic #35

I just took that and made some changes to fit my world. I hope you enjoy her design and the characterization I’m going with ☺️
