Ok, disclaimer that I'm not vagueing @ anyone specific with this, just a general trend I've noticed.

The TLDR is that Jamie gets the over-the-top woobie treatment, an old fandom tradition wherein you have a special guy and he HAS to be the saddest guy ever. This is fine! It's yummy! BUT it's a very liberal interpretation of what we're actually shown in canon, and I hate that it's treated like the assumed default.

This goes for a lot of things—for example: nobody around Jamie thinks that he’s thick or slow and Jamie sure as hell doesn’t think so!—but the biggest offender TO ME is that Jamie’s dad wasn’t around during Jamie’s childhood. Period. We’ve known this since S1! His dad left when he was very young and only showed up once Jamie “got good” enough that he was a serious prospect for a professional career and gave James clout and bragging rights and access to his favourite club. (So, not as soon as he got scouted, because so many boys get cut. We're talking England U16 at the earliest.)

Broadly… there’s kind of a tendency in fandom to give Jamie, like, some kind of Dickensian orphan backstory. Like James should define him, when he's just one (1) piece of a much broader mosaic.

Jamie is so many things. He’s remarkably well-adjusted, emotionally open, he IS a prick, he has a very healthy self-esteem and a very solid perception of his own self-worth. He is a hard worker who enjoys a good night out, he's a competitive elite athlete who doesn't wallow in self-pity (cough. Roy)—and he also has a shit dad, but it isn't THE thing that defines him. He's much more complicated than that! There were many more influences in his life than just his dad’s sporadic presence!

Again we’ve known since S1 that his mother was the one who got him into football! I guarantee that he's had some good coaches before Ted, as well as a normal amount of mediocre ones. He’s had friends before Richmond and girlfriends before Keeley, even if it wasn't serious. He's had teammates he liked and a team he was happy to be on. He just… had a more varied life than just overwhelming misery.

Personally, I find all of this way more compelling than if he’d “just” had a sadfest sort of background. Some people don’t, and that’s great! Some people like different things for their faves. Some people project a lot on their blorbos. All of this is fine and it can be super fun, but it bugs the hell out of me when it’s treated like a general assumption— again, it’s totally cool if you want it to be like this! We all let headcanons colour an interpretation, I sure as hell do that. Buuut there's a difference between "this interpretation is a bit far fetched but I don't care because it's fun TO ME" and "no actually THIS is how it is even if canon disagrees".

I like to think that after that time he was kind enough to help me look for you when I was lost, I just couldn’t stop thinking about him. I could be doing just the most mundane thing and he will pop into my head. Even more so than before when I was simply crushing from afar.

AUGH and when you let me know and you Byakuya have noticed my fondness for him I am lowkey bashful when I’m with you guys going around campus. Cus I feel like y’all are always looking and me and wondering if I am looking to see Ichigo (which I might be sometimes, but y’all don’t have to know!!).

Now I am just casually hanging around the school even though I haven’t started attending yet. But! With you and Byakkun’s help I have started the process of applying. Because it’s a little late, I’m unsure if I’ll make it in but my fingers are crossed! Would be cool to graduate the same year as (what is hopefully) my college sweetheart like the bestie and her Byakkun 🫶🏾.

Ichigo also thinks about our first time meeting from time to time, though nowhere near as much as me since he actually has stuff to focus on with his internship and prepping for his first grad year starting soon.

He hopes if he does that I’m not so upset.

He doesn’t like to see anyone sad, but he felt something a little different when he thought about me specifically. He wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was because I was your friend? And you were sort of an extension of his mentor Byakuya to him?

One time he’s working with Byakuya on something. And it’s on something a little more to do with your expertise. As you’re drafting up a little paper to help Byakuya you realize because of my Psych degree I might be able to help with a part you’re a little unsure about. We were hanging out at your house at the time having a little sleepover, so I was also able to write some notes of my own on the sheet.

Byakuya brought it with for the project. Ichi knows Byakuya’s handwriting, so he figures he didn’t write this reference page they were both looking at from time to time. He asks who did, to be told that the purple ink is in your handwriting, and that the pink ink is mine.

Byakkun goes back to working but Ichigo is looking at the paper for a moment, blinking to himself. When Byakkun steps away, Ichi is lightly stroking places where my handwriting is. He thought my writing was pretty…

Lmao also thinking about if something goes wrong with Ichi’s car, so you end up volunteering me as his ride and i wanna KILL U CUS HOW COULD U DO THIS TO ME!! IM NOT MENTALLY PREPARED FOR THIS PLS 😭. At first it’s a lot of the three of us (me, you, n Ichi in the back). But then you start making moves. Insisting Ichi sits in the front with me (“Oh I just need to go through my bag and it might get messy!”). Final Ep. Thoughts: Kdeoksjdjsjs, this one really needed to be thirty minutes long, but my god, did they pull off a perfect last few minutes. 

Final Future Thoughts: I might write more on this later, but overall, not only do I think Future was an amazing installment in the series, but it was essential for the incredible work it did in showing the consequences of deep, lasting childhood trauma. That’s not a storyline you often see in media, especially as laid bare as the Crewniverse did with Steven’s story. I think it was a little rushed at times—I would have loved to see some more fallout from the bigger arcs (the shattering/Greg and Steven’s fight/more of Steven’s recovery), but I absolutely understand that the Crewniverse was working with time constraints. It’s an imperfect work, but as our very own Greg Universe said, if every porkchop were perfect... then we wouldn’t have hot dogs.

I am dead with you IT WAS SO GOOD AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.  My sister and I were literally bouncing on the couch and screaming at the tv.

Okay this is what I have wanted THE ENTIRE TIME.  Din & Baby bonding time, plot stuff is centered around Din & the baby, cameos are super cool but don’t overwhelm Din being the main character, preestablished characters unique to the show being used.  This.  Not Filoni making Yet Another Version Of His TCW Stuff.

The opening scene of Din and Baby was PRECIOUS.  They’re both clearly so reluctant to do this but Din has Promised and more importantly, he wants to do what’s best for his kid even if it means separating from him.  Prioritizing someone else’s needs over your wants is true love HE’S SUCH A GOOD DAD

Din being such a fucking dumbass in this episode damn.  Din ilu but where is your jetpack???  Why did you try to get through the Force barrier the exact same way THREE TIMES when you knew it wouldn’t work and after it had knocked you unconscious???

Like the SHEER GALL from a meta perspective of looking at Boba Fett, the Orignial Mandalorian of all of Star Wars, and saying “Yeah I’m not sure if you should have that armor”

Like Din will happily be chill with anyone he meets who doesn’t immediately kill him but if you have Mandalorian armor you need to bring out your receipts immediately lmao

This is what I wanted with other Mandalorian characters coming in though.  Contrasting and comparing others’ Mandalorian cultures/sects/whatever with his and Din having to reexamine his own beliefs with it.  With Bo-Katan we got like two lines about it but here it’s A Thing that’s discussed, plus some Boba background, and Din comes to face his own biases and ultimately decide that yes, Boba should get the armor even if he doesn’t follow the Creed the same way Din does.  Plus the contrast between Din and Boba’s Mandalorian Experiences but also the uniting thread of Mandalorians Really Love Dads.

Anyway the Fetts are Real Mandalorians again as far as I’m concerned.  I have spoken.

Fennec Shand!!  I couldn’t believe they WASTED Mulan herself in The Gunslinger and this made me so happy!!  She’s such a badass and an excellent side character and I loved seeing her again, and it’s really cool that she and Boba teamed up?  That’s a backstory I wouldn’t mind seeing in a tie-in comic or novel or something.

As a SWTOR fan I loved seeing Tython brought to life.  Since SWTOR was 3000 years ago it makes sense there’s little left, but the stone thing was cool.  I wonder what the runes mean?  Although my sister and I were laughing over how much Tython apparently looks like California.

I know I already said it but Din getting yeeted and trying to get through the barrier three times was great

Also why tf aren’t you shouting “Grogu!” instead of just “kid” after we know Grogu likes hearing his name???

WHEN THE BABY WAS KIDNAPPED I TOTALLY DIED THE CONCEPT ART EVEN HAS HIM CRYING OH MY GOD

Gideon is SUCH a good slimy villain, so creepy and chilling (and he got STYLE), I absolutely loved his villain monologue even if it’s delivered to.....a baby.  Even if we’re getting some hints that Grogu is possibly more developed than previously indicated by his behavior, Gideon’s still delivering his Evil Speech to a toddler which is amazing

Like usually he just has A Big Moment but this time he just goes buck wild with those poor troopers.  Plus we’re so used to seeing him little and innocent and cute so it was very jarring (in the best way)

Despite the seriousness of the situation I fucking lost it at the Baby Handcuffs.  Like who had to order those?  Which poor peon was ordered by Gideon CRAFT ME BABY HANDCUFFS?  Were they custom made?  They’re so tiny!!  Baby commits Baby Crimes and goes to Baby Jail

THEY SHOT THE BABY.  I DON’T CARE IF IT WAS A STUN BLAST THEY SHOT HIM

Mayfeld?????  Why?????  I really hope Din takes Cara along too.  I’m loving this Avengers Assemble thing again, although I definitely want Greef and Cara along as opposed to any of the other Guest Stars we met this season

Maybe Cara’s New Republic ties will help?  Not quite sure how but that’s a cool thread they could use.  Again since she’s a big secondary character on the show, and unique to the Mandalorian, she’s one I’d love to see more development with as well - what made her decide to rejoin the New Republic?  Will this cause conflict between her and Din in the future?  etc.

Like this is what I’ve been craving, it was so suspenseful and good, I cannot WAIT for what’s next!!!

Thoughts on the character: In terms of a Oc goes- Ren is amazing, she fits so well with in the bleach universe and its a interesting concept to explore to be trapped in Muken and to be a prison guard of Muken as well.

Favorite part of portrayal: All of it??? I mean you know the bleach canon and lore really well. So you do an amazing job keeping everything in most realms of the canon.  So like i said before Ren fits really well in the soul society as a normal shinigami who just happen to get trapped in Muken with the realms most dangerous sociopathic criminal

One piece of advice: uuuh I don’t have any...? Other than maybe getting icons for like dash commentary? But like- getting fc’s and creating icons is difficult so like I completely understand not having it. (I mean it took me like a month to find good icon for my oc blaze xD) It just makes it easier to tell first glance on the dash ^^  But other than that- i have no real advice?? Thoughts on the mun: Ren mun is lovely. I love talking to them ooc . They are one of the most friendlest people i have talked to. THE MUN PLAYS KH3

Here are my notes/comments I made while playing through KH3. The thoughts that went through my head.

***SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. SPOILERS. SPOILERS.***

Tuesday, Jan 29th. 5:00 pm.

-Finally home and ready to play. Colored lights on, fluffy pants on, favorite blanket nearby, cats fed, pizza in oven, cold water in fridge, juice smoothie drink standing by. Waiting on my pizza to finish so I can eat dinner while listening to the title screen music. Have not put game on yet. (Just so happened to get my Marluxia keychain the other day too! Got my game today.)

-Here we goooooOOOOOO.

-OATH ORCHESTRAL IS SO PRETTY. Also expected recap. I bet there will be a lot of flashbacks in the game (update: not at all).

-Cable town seems a precarious place to live- also a pain to get around. Pretty. there’s a LOT of islands. (Update: homeworld of Keyblade wielders? Or base)

-Eraqus playing dumb?  Messing with Xehanort? Or is he actually just like that and doesn’t know.

-Queue intro. Music feels off slightly but that could just be because I saw the trailer one first. Also new Marluxia content, gonna need a gif of that little clip jumping over the scythe.

-Darkside, of course. Nostalgia reasons. Would have been more interesting if they changed up the fight with him, I think. He’s always been a pretty lame fight.

HERCULES WORLD

-Cutscenes feel much more natural (first reaction). Also Donald getting shit on, always fun. (Update: the amount of shitting on each other in this game is unreal)

-Hercules’ new voice… Is it new? IDK, but I find it unnerving.

-The Instagram loading screens are weird? Not a big deal.

-Maleficent’s much needed glow up.

-The graphics are odd because some things look super good and then some things look kinda weird sometimes. IDK I just started. Generally very pretty.

-SORA, DONALD, GOOFY. Is this going to be a thing again? (Update: yes, it is)

-Guess Phil isn’t going to talk at all? Sort of weird (Update: speaking of NOT SPEAKING. Aeleus and Dilan. Not a single peep. Wow.)

-Xigbar’s voice is changing into Xehanort’s now. Someone help him.

-Holy shit an NPC. WTF was that scene??? I think that’s all that needs to be said here. Just, what? How did that even work? No idea where the girl was/how far? Didn’t see any fire? Too slow? Yeeted into the universe. Little girl saved???

-Jumping around when you get hit with fire is annoying.

-Fighting those Titans was a shirt storm. It was soooo janky for me. (update: the combat in this game is incredibly aerial based)

-“May your hear-- ?” Unsure if game bugged or not. (Update: I get it now. Thanks, epilogue.)

-So Axel DOES get an outfit, wonder if we’ll ever see him wear it. (Update: AT THE VERY END

-Phone call. Is it my boy IENZO??? Oh, nope. D: WAIT, there he is.- -MOODY AELEUS??? What does he have against Roxas? Just because he left the Organization? Yeah, like Axel. Stop the bias against the other Org members.

TWILIGHT TOWN

-Seifer and gang left for a “hero’s journey”.

-IENZO SPYING? IENZO CHUCKLE. Ienzo didn’t know= that makes sense. He’s so…happy (Update: he really is chipper in this game) -KIDNAPPED EVEN? -Just get Even to make him a body. -I too could go for some hot wings, little girl -Talking about Sora. I figured, but I hoped.

How handy, wish I could do that to myself. (Also the comment about him being good at sleeping or something? Guess he knows that from DDD? When they were all there at the end. Or upon learning he was in a pod for a year.)

-The bosses thus far have been huge and really annoying to hit/air battles.

-On Marluxia, still looks like they’re just using him for Nort fodder at this point. Even though it still makes no sense at all.

-And I’m sure that’s all I’m gonna get this game for Marluxia.

-ALSO,  Reapers baby. CALLED IT.

-Get Even to make one! Well Goofy’s right, Ienzo might be able to do it. OH MY GOD I CALLED IT. Good job Riku for being smart.

so i ended up talking more on skype about the shakarian soulmate au i talked about in the tags on this post:

#okay but shakarian au where this is a thing #and you get some kind of mark/bruise for any injury #and they can tell from the injury frequency and type that the other's a soldier too #and then the worry when they discover a serious-looking wound/mark and hoping the other is okay and gets through it #and watching their recovery through the mark/bruise healing #and garrus and shep not finding out until garrus takes the rocket to the face :)))))))))) #GARRUS ASSUMED HIS LACK OF MARKS WAS BECAUSE EITHER HIS SOULMATE RETIRED FROM THE MILITARY OR DIED #BUT HE DOESN'T REALLY REGISTER THE LACK UNTIL OVER A YEAR AFTER SHEPARD DIED #also shep being able to follow the healing of garrus's face via her own marks even when he won't say anything about it

Friend: AAA Me: and garrus takes off his helmet and i would think shep would take hers off too but we'll say it's semi-opaque so he can still see her but the scars are hidden Me: so it stays on Me: and shep doesn't really notice the cracks/hasn't been alive/looked at herself long or well enough to connect it to the pattern of her scars Me: and her helmet stays on when they're evac'ing him to the normandy after the rocket Me: and maybe she finally takes it off once she's in the medbay with just chakwas and unconscious garrus Friend: Chakwas just goes :0 and simply stares Me: and chakwas points it out Me: well she's very focused on getting to work on saving garrus Friend: Oh I thought like after garrus was saved fshhdhsa Me: but she mentions it as she's working aka trying to shoo shep out Me: and say there's a mirror in there and shep looks and the whole side of her face and neck are fucked up (i was just imagining bruises instead of like. you suddenly start bleeding externally lmao) and she's like 'wtf' Me: and she's dehydrated and in a bit of a daze and hasn't slept so she just numbly puts her helmet on so that no one will see Me: and goes up to her cabin to shower etc Me: and after/during the shower she can see the marks changing as chakwas proceeds through the surgery Me: fixing parts, making cuts, adding cybernetics Me: the surface/pattern on her skin literally changes right as she watches it in the mirror Me: (hope that's not like.........body horror-y) Friend: Yeah lmao it would be kinda weird if someone suddenly started bleeding Me: the original post mentioned little cuts but.........in this universe we're talking gunshot wounds lmao Me: things could just appear as scabbed-over marks/wounds immediately Friend: Shdhss Me: or the skin could just. change color or bruise or w/e Me: so she watches that for a while but she's barely staying awake so she goes to sleep after checking with edi/chakwas that garrus is still gonna be in surgery for a while Me: actually maybe we'll say this shep managed to disable edi in her cabin Me: so when she gets up and sees that she still has the marks from garrus's injury she doesn't know if it means he's alive or not Me: maybe the soulmate thing isn't like. confirmed? Me: like it's a strong myth based on the idea from the original post but science hasn't confirmed it Me: so people wouldn't know like. if your marks disappeared when your soulmate died or if you kept the marks because they were still on your soulmate's body Me: or if the marks would fade in time after their death (maybe in time with body decomposition/destruction/cremation/whatever they do in the future) or if the mark of what killed your soulmate stays on your body forever Friend: Oooooo Me: so yeah we could have her message chakwas or her getting/having a message from jacob for the comm room thing Me: maybe part of what chakwas said the day before was that they could look at fixing the bruises/whatever on shepard's face that next day once garrus was dealt with so for now shepard covers them with makeup that was already in her room/bathroom when she came (matched to her of course) Me: because holy hell it's weird af and not something she wants other people seeing Friend: Sjhdhsa Me: and maybe when she gets down to the medbay chakwas isn't there (because she's sleeping) and there's just a cerberus nurse monitoring/talking to garrus who's awake Me: about caring for the wound or whatever Me: and after that's done they both leave the medbay together and shep doesn't want to put off talking about the marks so she takes garrus up to her cabin Me: because no bugs Me: and tells garrus to sit/chill while she goes into the bathroom and gets the makeup off Me: and garrus probably hasn't even thought of/made the connection between his cracks and shepard's glowing scars Me: he might not have looked at himself much at all since finding out about them and probably forgot Me: so shepard comes out of the bathroom and garrus sees her face/neck and is like umMMMMMMMM Me: and shepard's like 'this appeared yesterday after the mission' Me: and i want garrus to stand up and go over to her and move the neck of her shirt aside to see that the marks continue down to her shoulder/collarbone like his does Me: BUT IDK IF THAT'S THE RIGHT THING[TM] Friend: BLESS Me: i guess i can say garrus is tired too lmao Me: it'd be a lot easier to figure shit like this out IF I'D FUCKING PLAY ME1 LMAO Me: so shep stays still while garrus does that Me: and that's when she notices the cracks on garrus's face Me: and she got a bit more familiar with her own the night before when watched her reflection for so long Friend: Aaaaa Friend: Yeet yes Me: but she reaches up to touch one of her own scars with her fingers just to be sure Me: and garrus notices and he's like. buffering on something to say when shep says 'your face is cracked' Me: and then garrus laughs because that's a joke/insult for turians Me: maybe shep knows or maybe she doesn't Friend: Sdfghjl Me: either way that breaks the weird tension that had been building and shepard laughs too and runs her fingers through her hair and she and garrus take a step back/go back to normal personal space levels (which is still closer than normal people l m a  o) Me: and shep's like 'guess it's not a myth after all' Me: because soldiers can probably write off a lot of weird bruising lmao Me: and maybe turians have more knowledge of the marks than humans/actually believe in it Me: so garrus is a little ?? at that comment but then they clarify that Me: and then talk about how garrus is glad she's back/she's glad garrus is there Me: PLOT SETUP IS EASY CHARACTERS ARE HARD Me: omg they talk about some of the injuries/marks they've seen from each other Me: like 'wtf was THAT one' or 'my mom saw that one and i got in trouble' Friend: Sdfhk Me: I REACH THE TIME FOR CUTE STUFF BUT THEN................CAN'T COME UP WITH THE CUTE STUFF Me: idk if i want them to kiss now or later Me: like maybe at first they figure they're platonic soulmates and are basically like 'fuck yeah best friends' Me: but then slowly/later on realize 'oh shit do i want more' Me: maybe they both just go with/cling to platonic soulmates or whatever because of what garrus says when explaining turian views on soulmates, that it's not always romantic Me: sorry boy you went fucking crazy with grief when she died that ain't platonic Friend: Sdfhkl Me: GARRUS KNOWING FOR SURE IT'S SHEP BECAUSE OF THE MARKS
