Underskirt is done!
Not much to see, opted for a basic black skirt. There’s an opening in the left side back that I might use for a hanging pocket. We’ll see how accessible it’ll be once the other two pieces are done tho.
Now to start the over skirt!
Edit: before I cut into it, look at how pretty my bodice/overskirt fabric looks 😍

if a whole july writing challenge wasn't enough i decided i was going to undertake a huge gif project for no other reason than to see if i could do it. and you know what, it's sort of looking like it's possible - we've got the ugliest rough draft idea going but once i get all the moving parts and gifs set that i like (that first one especially needs to be changed/fixed hnnnnn don't even talk to me about the rest of it. tbd on if i keep the little selection boxes as they are) we'll be in business

Doctor Brown was sent back into the old west to the year 1885 when the time machine he was in was struck by lightening. Brown was enjoying the simpler life, although that didn’t stop him from inventing things to make his life easier and was surprised when Marty McFly, his friend from the future, showed up. Marty explained he had come back to rescue the Doc from being murdered in this past. (Back to the Future III, Flm)

what i say: i'm fine
what i mean: in the back to the future telltale game in episode 1 doc was talking about how jules and verne were already getting ready to go to college. and its just not brought up again. what the fuck. at that point marty hadnt seen him since october 1985 and it's may 1986 now. and this was before the idw comics so there was nothing to fill that gap yet. marty's best friend has been gone for so long his own kids are around marty's age now. i love the game and it's my favorite extension to bttf but holy shit why did they do that. i know in the end the timeline gets so changed around that the browns have been living in hill valley since the end of part 3 but marty wasnt around for that. this is another whole new doc he has to get to know now. how many times must marty lose his best friend to time travel

This is a head empty take but for the local legends au, it would be cool if the whole “Marty being called a chicken” thing got integrated into the local mythology.
Like historians start theorizing that perhaps Marty was a chicken farmer, or wore feathered clothing, or resembled a chicken in some way.
And Marty is of course deeply annoyed by all of this when he comes across it in the local history books/historical society.
So he resolves to fight it and set the record straight. And accidentally gains fame and prestige from the Hill Valley Historical Society.
Bonus points if the society gets super amped about Marty’s career as a rock star later in life and starts promoting him around town.

Who was your most influential teacher? Why? I’ve been here before. I have sat in this same dust covered, mildew eaten chair. I have gazed out across this same room with its piles of magazine and newspaper stacks. I have taken pride in the organized rows of books that younger hands once carefully placed upon now collapsing shelves. My dry blood shot eyes watch as the dust falls. Layer upon layer…

Clara was no stranger to the deep hours of the night.
She fell in love with stars at a young age, when her thready breaths and chest pains kept her awake.
She fell in love with the writings of Jules Verne soon after she recovered, retreating into his fantastic worlds until the sun warmed the horizon. She pretended that if she looked close enough, she might see The Baltimore Gun Club’s projectile streaking against the current of falling stars on its way to the moon.
And when her beloved stars paled around him, she fell in love with Emmett Brown.

7th Grade Science
In the 7th Grade I had a teacher named Mr. Armstrong. He was my Science teacher. He gave us a project assignment. Our instructions were to create a diagram of a cell. We were allowed to use any material as long as we demonstrated we understood the parts of the cell. I didn’t know what I was going to do at first but a friend of my then stepfather helped me with an idea. Rest his soul but my…

MYCROFT INTERLUDE - an imagined conversation between Holmes and Mycroft in 1888, after the events of the Greek Interpreter, when Watson and Mycroft meet for the first time. I was thinking about the 1885 Labouchere Amendment and Mycroft being protective of his younger brother.
(this is a part of the Watson's Sketchbook series)

hi if you want me to be insane for a sec i wanna talk about what environment re: homosexuality edwin was raised in
there was, at the time of edwin's birth, a national panic about the decline of masculinity in the UK. there was an idea that the uncontrollable sexual appetites of gay men would erode the moral foundation of the country and destroy it.
gay men, especially effeminate gay men, were seen as morally insane, degenerate, and as sexual criminals on par with child abusers. being gay was a criminal offense seen as contributing to social collapse. it was further criminalized under the labouchere amendment in 1885. gay sex was banned, but so was something as innocent as kissing. even, in some cases, just smiling or talking to other men in places suspected of being gay hotspots could be punished with imprisonment and hard labor.
edwin was born about 5 years after oscar wilde was imprisoned for "gross indecency" with other men, and about 50 years BEFORE alan turing was chemically castrated for the same crime. following wilde's highly publicized prosecution, there emerged a culture of hunting down, ratting out, and blackmailing gay men under threat of arrest. i'd go so far as to say edwin was becoming a teenager at the HEIGHT of the gay panic that emerged after wilde's trial - arrest rates had ballooned by 1912, and edwin was in school from 1913 to 1916.
it would have been rough, looking and acting the way he does.
