"Crown Shyness" is a natural phenomenon observed in some tree species, where the upper branches of the crowns avoid touching each other. The visual effect is stunning, forming clearly defined boundaries that look like cracks or rivers in the sky when viewed from below.

This intriguing behavior was first documented in the 1920s, and since then, several hypotheses have been put forward to explain it. Some theories suggest that "Crown Shyness" helps limit the spread of harmful insects among trees. Another hypothesis is that trees avoid contact to protect their branches from cracks and breaks caused by the wind. It is also proposed that this phenomenon allows trees to maximize exposure to light from the wind. Although several theories have been suggested, scientists have not yet reached a consensus on the exact cause of this phenomenon. This phenomenon reminds us how nature is full of mysteries and elegant solutions that reveal the harmony underlying natural ecosystems.
