Do fanfic writers realize the HOURS of daydream material they give maladaptive daydreamers? And I’m not talking budget daydreams, these are grade A, gold star types of daydreams. And the craziest thing is it happens when we ‘disagree’ with the story.

When I read a xReader story and reader does something that makes me say ‘no!!!’ I’ll inevitably put my phone on my chest and then my brain kicks into high gear. If I was invested enough in the story to have such a strong reaction, then I’m absolutely invested enough to want to play in that sandbox.

Bc that’s what MD is to me. It’s me playing with the preestablished characters in a sandbox setting where I get to play make believe. I put myself in readers shoes (whether she’s a terrified baker who was just kidnapped or a 141 operative who can scare Ghost) and then I add in my own reactions. And then BOOM it’s been 4 hours and I realized I’ve been staring at the ceiling that whole time

I just think it’s crazy that a disagreement between writer and reader visions can lead to artistic inspiration. Do authors realize they are also a muse?

sanemi and shinobu pretending to hate each other in public but some nights when no one's awake or looking, they'll just tell each other stories about kanae, so they don't forget her

but at the same time it's a little sad bc the more you tell a story, the more it changes in your head and the closer you come to forgetting the real story entirely

they also promise themselves to stop every time it happens but then sanemi can't sleep and finds shinobu sitting in the kitchen or shinobu goes to patch up sanemi and then ends up staying the whole night even tho sanemi should recover, even tho they should sleep, even tho they shouldn't do this.

but it's too... nice. it hurts but it's nice. it's the only time sanemi sees a genuine smile from shinobu, the only time shinobu might get sanemi to shed a tear and not gonna lie, that feels kinda good too, to be the one to see that and to be the one to know about that. (they would never hold it against each other. kanae wouldn't want that.)

and sanemi loves and hates listening to shinobu because it feels like their good sibling relationship is being rubbed in his face but goddamnit she loved her sister and her sister loved her and that's great, that's painful but great. and shinobu loves and hates listening to sanemi because he's not good enough for kanae, no one is ever good enough for kanae but goddamnit he loved her sister and her sister loved him and at the end of the day that's really all that matters.

but sometimes they part ways feeling worse than before. sometimes they can't scrape all the details together, sometimes they disagree about a minor detail. sometimes shinobu recalls an event a little differently than she did last time and she might not be aware of it in the moment but sanemi notices. sometimes sanemi can't remember kanae's smile and he doesn't ever say it, blames it on the medicine but shinobu sees it in his eyes.

and then they get up and say goodnight and go home because when that happens kanae's absence feels too real, too present and once you become more aware of a dead person's absence than whatever you have left of them it's time to take a step back for a moment. and maybe it also feels a bit like losing kanae once more and they can't do that. they just can't.
