On ai- I think one of the main distinctions between editing something and having ai produce it is one requires. Effort, and actual time/thought behind it. Spending a minute feeding a database prompts until you get something you want is nothing compared to the countless hours put into a piece, be it writing/art/etc
You could argue that by virtue of posting something online, people sort of sign away on what people do with their art, but even in such cases you cannot deny that ai companies went about collecting data in malicious and deceptive ways- often without any time to genuinely revoke consent.
With ai art, people can replicate someone's style, which can then threaten their own personal brand/livelihood. This becomes more apparent when you know that a major part of the actors strike was specifically against ai owning the rights to people's image/voice indefinitely. An actors entire workplace existence hinges upon the fact that they will be paid to be somewhere and say and do something- this gives them the security of an income, but it also gives them the right to turn down any works they don't agree with/don't want to be a part of. By removing the actual *actor* from acting, the company can get away with not having to actually pay someone, let alone pay someone a living wage
I think the biggest reason I, and many others, are against ai, is for the same exact reason people would be against reposting art instead of reblogging, or the reason we used to get all the warnings against online piracy: it will directly hurt the creators that spent countless hours working on something. The difference between piracy and ai, however, is ai hurts creators that are just like you, and your community, and it will continue to do so if left unchecked
It is a very big win that ai generated works cannot be copywrited, bc it means that people will not be able to profit off of something they did not truly make. It would be unreasonable for someone to launch a TV show where the premise was ai, or the script itself, or the actors, and then try to claim ownership over it, and insist that they make a profit off of it, that no one else can use it, when in truth they had no part in the actual creating of the show
This is kinda a mess, and im open to more discussion/providing links to stuff mentioned later, but hopefully this is kind of an insight into why ai isn't. The best
Yes! Thanks for the discussion!
I think you’re responding to my previous post: https://www.tumblr.com/oo0-will-of-the-wisp-0oo/748487000957550592/any-of-my-people-interested-in-discussing-ai
If I were to use AI, I would be 100% honest about. Also I would charge less in most cases.
The reason being is it feels to me like it is providing me with images/information, and therefore helps me save time. I prefer to use it as a tool, though rather than use it as a means to an end. At least with the few AI I’ve experimented with, I’ve noticed that the program/algorithm kind of does a half-ass job on it’s own and the final piece would need to be edited to my satisfaction - especially text prompts. Using only text-prompts produces pretty substandard results. I find whatever the AI spits out usually needs to be edited, sometimes rather extensively, or else it’s unusable. And it takes up more time than I like for the program to process. I don’t just want to text-prompt and keep whatever gets developed.
There are some AI that you can use a photo or drawing of your own as reference. AI Arta is one of these. I’m playing around with Bing and Picsart, too. And of course EVERY app seems to be providing its users with its own AI (although usually using original products such as Dall-E or Midjourney, is what I find)…
Also, my original link on my blog said AI can’t be copyrighted… However I’ve found at least Dall-E allows you to make a profit: “Subject to the Content Policy and Terms, you own the images you create with DALL·E, including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise — regardless of whether an image was generated through a free or paid credit. Oct 29, 2023” - although perhaps this still doesn’t mean it’s under your own copyright… I’m not sure about that.
I’ll just finish this reply to you saying I think everyone should keep discussing AI. Thanks again for your own input. I figure the more it’s talked about, the more we’ll figure out how to use it. I don’t want to snub people who are completely for or against it. I WANT to hear what people think about it. If I learn something I didn’t know before because of keeping an open mind, that’s a good thing.
Hope what I’m writing is comprehensible, it’s after 5am. I should get to sleep! lol
Here’s a website where the opinion is that AI won’t “take over” people’s jobs/artistry, but it will make their jobs more efficient for them.

Laura Cantrell: Nashville-born, New York-based, Acclaimed Country Singer-Songwriter & DJ (& Kitty Wells Fanatic)
This post is a near- transcript of the Broken Buttons: Buried Treasure Music podcast (episode 2, side B). Here you’ll find the narration from the segment featuring the pioneering rock band Fanny, along with links, videos, photos and references for the episode.
Listen to the full episode on Spotify, Anchor or Mixcloud.
Tumblr media
Music blog Stereogum used to have a running feature called “Quit Your Day Job” where they interviewed indie musicians about their current or former jobs. There was one with Marty and Drew from the band Blitzen Trapper. The two discussed being torn about walking away from teaching as their third album, Wild Mountain Nation, was starting to blow up. There was another where the lead singer of War on Drugs detailed some of the disgusting things he had to clean up while working as an apartment property manager. Mostly dead rats and clogged toilet stuff, but he did walk into an apartment that had been converted into a porno set. I remembered this discontinued “musician day job” feature while reading up on my next featured artist and it got me thinking.
How many professional musicians do you think have a full time day job? How many juggle multiple side gigs and still manage to tour and put out records regularly? How many have really successful careers all while trying to make it as a musician?
Tumblr media
I don’t actually know. I did some research and there aren’t any reliable stats that I could find. There is a lot of anecdotal discussion on the topic. The consensus seems to be that most musicians are not getting by with music as their only, or even their primary source of income. I don’t think anyone is surprised by that.
One Reddit user said less than 5% of musicians derive all or most of their income from music. He didn’t offer a source or anything, but he seemed very authoritative in his post. And then after a few more Google searches I lost interest and listened to more Laura Cantrell.
Laura Cantrell’s story is what got me pondering how indie musicians go about juggling making art with the necessity of, you know, making a living to survive. In 2003, after two critically acclaimed albums, including a tour opening for Elvis Costello all across the United States and Europe, Cantrell was at a similar crossroads. Laura had risen to the position of Vice President of Equity Research at Bank of America in New York. Yes, you heard me right. Laura Cantrell was working as a corporate executive and touring with Elvis Costello at the same time. She actively worked on the road during the day and then performed for thousands of people each night.
Before we get further into what led up to this point and what came after, let’s hear a song from Laura Cantrell’s debut album, Not the Tremblin’ Kind. Here’s the title track.
youtube
That was Not the Tremblin’ Kind from Laura Cantrell’s first album back in the year 2000.
Laura grew up in Nashville. She played a little bit of piano and sang in the church choir, but did not get into performing music and playing out until her college years. As a teenager she worked at the Country Music Hall of Fame as a tour guide. This job, in addition to the influence of the diverse musical tastes of her parents, sparked an interest in traditional music, particularly classic country. She also became somewhat of an aficionado in this area.
This love and knowledge of the early days of country music would help differentiate Laura as she honed her sound and selected her songs while developing as a performer down the road. Before that, however, it would make her an excellent college radio DJ and later an even more excellent DJ at WFMU, one of the best and longest running free-form radio stations in the country. Out of the New Jersey/New York area, WFMU is awesome to this day, with a wide array of programming where DJs still get to play whatever they want.
Laura is my favorite kind of DJ, and the kind that has been dwindling in numbers since the rise of music downloads, which then gave way to streaming and endless algorithms. First off, she’s knows her stuff. She carefully curates each shows, and thoughtfully sequences each set within every episode. She packs in history, context and story to create something that transcends your typical weekend-afternoon-background-radio-soundtrack. I know this show is about under appreciated bands and artists, but Laura Cantrell’s contributions to radio deserve to be heard by more people. You can find her past WFMU shows, called The Radio Thrift Shop, archived on the WFMU website. You can hear her present day on her “States of Country” radio show on the Gimmie Country radio app, or on her SiriusXM George Harrison themed show “Dark House Radio,” on The Beatles station.
Tumblr media
This concludes the part of the show where I babble my enthusiastic endorsement of Laura Cantrell’s past and present radio career.
Laura began playing music with others in college at Columbia University. Her jam pals included Andrew Webster, future member of Tsunami Bomb and Mac McCaughan, who would go on to form Superchunk and Portastatic + found Merge Records. The friends would call their band Bricks. A lo-fi, mostly apartment recording projects that played sporadic gigs over the years.
Here’s the Brick’s song, The Girl with the Carrot Skin.
Living in New York, Laura began playing guitar and writing her own songs. She also plucked some choice classic country finds and incorporated them into her own performance catalog. One day she met a guy named John who asked her to sing on a song that would appear on his band’s next major label release for Elektra.
youtube
That’s The Guitar from They Might Be Giant’s 1992 album, Apollo 18. John Flansburgh asked Laura to sing on that recording. It was the first time Laura recorded in a professional studio. John Flansburgh became a fan of Laura’s music and released her first recorded material as part of his Hello CD of the Month Club, an EP called The Hello Recordings in 1996.
Let’s hear another Laura Cantrell song. This time one that she wrote with Amy Allison. From Laura Cantrell’s 2014 album, No Way There From Here, this is All the Girls are Complicated.
youtube
That was Laura Cantrell with All the Girls Are Complicated from her last full length release, No Way There From Here. Actually, that was her last full album of new material, but Laura did release an album a few years back of her BBC recordings on John Peel’s radio show. That album is called At the BBC: On Air Performances and Recordings 2000-2005.
I mentioned earlier that Peel was a big fan. Again, here’s John Peel’s full quote about Laura’s first album, Not the Tremblin’ Kind: "[It is] my favourite record of the last ten years and possibly my life.” Having the endorsement of the legendary English disc jockey was enough to give Cantrell wider exposer throughout the UK. She developed a loyal fanbase through regular appearances on Peel’s show, as well as US and European tours, including the opening slot for Elvis Costello. Which brings us back to Laura’s fork in the road. Before her third album, Laura decided to walk away from the corporate gig. She was excited to focus on music full time, but a little worried about walking away from the security of a successful career she liked and position she was good at.
From a spotlight CNN Business did on Cantrell in 2004:
“For several months until she finally quit, Cantrell balanced her day job with a growing schedule of rehearsals, gigs, recordings and publicity. On the day she appeared on the Conan O'Brien show she was at her desk until lunchtime.”
“And while life as a professional musician is a dream come true, Cantrell still looks back with fondness on more than a decade on Wall Street.”
“‘I came into Wall Street with a very typical kind of stereotype that it was all going to be people just obsessed with money. What I found was that there were just loads of interesting people who were a lot like myself, just doing it as a job and who had lives that were full of other things.’
‘So I miss some of the contact with people I met. Ironically it was a very supportive environment for me as an artist.’”
Tumblr media
Laura’s first two albums were released on the the indie label Diesel Only, which was founded by her husband, Jeremey Tepper. Her third album was released by Matador Records, also an indie label, but with an impressive roster that included Liz Phair, Modest Mouse, Pavement and Sleater-Kinney. Released in 2005, Humming By the Flowered Vine continues Cantrell’s classic country sound, but with some evolved production and arrangements. Laura’s mastery as a song selector gets more and more impressive. This album includes a cover of a rare, unreleased Lucinda Williams song form 1975 called, “Letters.”
In fact, Lucinda Williams herself was thoroughly impressed with Laura’s cover of “Letters.” She attributes the cover to bolstering her confidence to go back through her earlier material and look for her own buried treasures.
From Blurt Magazine:
“The inspiration for her journey through the past struck when she heard Laura Cantrell’s version of her song ‘Letters,’ which Williams wrote around 1975 and recorded on a demo but never officially released. Explains Williams, ‘She got a copy from a mutual friend and did a beautiful, really sweet version of it that made me think wow, she brought this early song back to life, maybe I should go back and review some of my old stuff. I’ve got all these tapes of old little songs, but I never thought they were good enough to do anything with.’”
You know you’re an ace at finding under appreciated gems when you surprise Lucinda Williams by helping her discover one of her own songs. Let’s hear Laura Cantrell’s version of Letters.
youtube
That was Laura Cantrell with Letters from her 2005 release Humming by the Flowered Vine.
In 2008, Laura returned with an EP called, Trains and Boats and Planes with 9 songs about… trains, and boats and planes. It’s very good and it includes a fun cover of New Order’s Love Vigilantes.
Throughout this time, Laura continued her radio show. She also started a family and became co-owner and co-operator of Diesel Only Records.
In this clip from an interview with Face Culture, you can really hear Laura’s passion for country music and its roots. She talks about the importance of country’s influence on rock n’ roll, and how each artist is inspired by something great that came before.
And Laura continuously pays tribute to the greats that came before through her radio show and on her own records. In 2011, Laura released a tribute to Kitty Wells called “Kitty Wells Dresses: Songs of the Queen of Country Music.” The collection includes nine Kitty Wells covers and one original, the title track, Kitty Wells Dresses.
From the Washington Post:
Here’s Laura talking about the inspiration for the album.
“Kitty wore very typical stage clothes for women who performed at barn dances and in early country music shows,” says Cantrell, a Nashville-born, New York-based country singer and host of an old-time music show on the legendary radio station WFMU.
“They were these frilly gingham dresses, non-threatening and cutesy. It became this uniform that all the women of the era wore, and I always thought it was a great metaphor for how you can underestimate the strength of the person or the value of the artist underneath.”
youtube
That was the song Kitty Wells Dresses from Laura Cantrell’s tribute album of the same name, released in 2011. Wells was the oldest living member of the Country Music Hall of Fame upon its release. She was also the first woman inducted into the hall. Cantrell met and talked to Kitty about her album. She said that Kitty asked which songs were selected and as Laura began calling them out, Kitty would sing each one.
I’ve mentioned all of Laura’s past and present DJ efforts, all of which I’ll link to on my website, brokenbuttons.com. Laura also continues to release music. She had planned a host of special activities for the 20th anniversary of Not the Tremblin’ Kind, which had to be put on hold due to all things 2020.
You can contribute to Laura’s IndigGoGo campaign to help fund her new digital singles collection that she’s already started releasing. The plan is to release six singles with an A and a B side, all working with different musicians and producers. I’d recommend the $50 Kitty Wells Dresses Pack, which gets you access to the digital singles as their released, a signed CD copy of both the singles collection and the Kitty Wells Dresses album, as well as a copy of Laura's essay on Kitty and Patsy Cline from the book "Rock and Roll Cage Match: Music's Greatest Rivalries"
Tumblr media
Laura Cantrell is the rare performer whose work is deeply rooted in its original source material while still feeling fresh and exciting. Laura’s radio shows can be described the same way. A buried treasure unearthing buried treasure and taking the old and classic and making it new and lasting and so much sweeter. Laura Cantrell.

Anonymous said: You don’t seem to think Superman’s public rep will take another beating from the Snyder Cut coming out. Honestly I thought you’d be way more upset than you seemed on Twitter.
Anonymous said: So uhh, against all thoughts and logic the Snyder cut is being released? Maybe as a mini series? Thoughts?
Anonymous said: SNYDER CUT!
Bullies. Jocks. Guys angrily asking if we know who their father is. Assorted dudebro nerd-oppressors of America:
You have failed us. You have failed us so hard. What else do we even keep you around for if not to head this shit off at the pass? Shame on you.
Tumblr media
Okay, so seriously: I’m actually gonna put most bitching and moaning under a cut, because I know firsthand there are as many as several non-slavering maniacs out there who dug Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and who are simply and entirely reasonably excited that they’re getting this movie after all. I don’t feel like throwing a wall of text at them shitting all over this, so I’ll lead off with I think some fairly even-handed commentary on the real-world circumstances here, rambling speculation regarding the production, and some cautious optimism about the actual movie/s. THEN I’ll get to what I imagine most of you are here to see.
So totally in a vacuum: this is a cool, good thing. I’m the notorious theatrical Justice League-liker, but at best it was a compromised product due to the original creator - who like it or not clearly had an incredibly ambitious personal vision for these characters and their world - suffering a horrific tragedy forcing him off the project, and leaving his final stamp on blockbuster culture and a world he’d devoted years of his life to a flop with his name on it when he couldn’t even truly call it his own anymore. At worst, said tragedy was taken advantage of by suits to ditch him in the home stretch so as to try and shove out something ostensibly more marketable. But now because of a...very loyal fanbase, the man’s getting the opportunity and resources to rise like a phoenix and see at least some of his vision through in a huge way. That’s pretty remarkable.
Not in a vacuum this is fucking horrifying. I’ve already seen folks poo-poohing the reflexive fears that this will ‘set a precedent’, and they were right enough that I deleted my initial tweet on the subject because I didn’t think I could express my own opinion with any nuance in the space of 280 characters. Yeah, nerd whining definitely shaped Rise of Skywalker (another movie I enjoyed in spite of the circumstances of its creation). Hell, Sonic the Hedgehog crunched its CGI team prior to unceremoniously firing them to redesign his model thanks to outcry. That’s already a market force, and just to be clear upfront, if we can’t agree the predominant mode of operation for #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a toxic nerd harassment campaign when they spammed posts memorializing deceased actors and chased Diane Nelson off Twitter, we’re not gonna be able to have this conversation. And director’s cuts are you may have noticed also already a thing. But this isn’t changing direction on a project that’s already going to exist no matter what, this is turning back 3 years later on a commercial flop and dumping tens of millions of dollars into it, explicitly in response to that harassment campaign. It’s not *actually* going back and, say, remaking The Last Jedi, but by god to the naked eye it’s gonna be as good as for plenty of fanboys, and probably to some shortsighted execs as well. This is a new thing, and in this context it is a very, very bad one. Hopefully one that won’t amount to anything.
Tumblr media
As for the movie itself: what the hell is this thing going to end up being? I assume with this sort of cashola being pumped into it we’re not getting any slapdash greenscreen or storyboarded sequences, but four hours? Is it really just going to be an expanded and revised version of what we saw in theaters, or is this including content that would have been in the originally planned Justice Leagues 2 and 3? My understanding is that those were already compressed into a single Justice League 2 before plans collapsed altogether, were they maybe filming side-by-side and this’ll be the whole shebang? If not is Snyder going to hedge his bets and end this on a clean note, or keep it ending on a cliffhanger in hopes HBO will throw another $250 million his way to keep going? Does DC want to keep going? Would they give into fan pressure on releasing after all what was widely publicized as the first film of a duology or trilogy with dangling threads if they weren’t going to be at least watching the numbers to see the feasibility of returning to this in a bigger way? Not that I think WB execs would piss into Snyder’s mouth if he were dying of thirst at this point if he simply asked to be able to do Justice League 2, but if he floated that if they instead just give him a liiiiiiiitle more money he can finally deliver unto them their very own Avengers - one that they can work on even during quarantine since it’s mostly just VFX work left - and hey if it works out he’s got a sequel or two cued up and ready to go? Maybe they look at their scattered plans and say the hell with it and end up giving this a theatrical release and sequel with Snyder holding the reigns again if this ends up a killer app; stranger things have happened, if not many, and somehow this is already happening in the first place after all. Alternatively, if this succeeds, could they go “thanks and good on ya, totally do another, but it’s gonna be an HBO exclusive so you’re only getting a hundred million, figure it out”? Would Ben Affleck return? How much reshooting will he be willing to commit to even for this? And most importantly, since this is potentially going to be serialized as six ‘episodes’, will We Got This Covered count this as another ‘win’ since their bullshit rumor mill algorithm spit out “Justice League HBO TV show” recently?
As for the project itself: I ain’t subscribing to HBOMax for this bad boy, but once it becomes more widely available I can’t claim I won’t probably watch it. It’s basically a new movie about the Justice League, and if there’s anything I WOULD wanna see Zack Snyder do in the DCU, it’s the movie finally moving past pseudo-realism (aside from some of those dopey costumes) and leaning all the way into godlike superbeings bludgeoning each other through continents. I absolutely wanna see his aesthetic take on the Green Lantern Corps, and New Genesis, and time travel, and all the other weird promises of where his movies were going to go climaxing in a ridiculous super-war across all spacetime. It’s the same reason J.G. Jones was an exciting choice for Final Crisis before he had to leave, seeing a guy known for his work in an ultra-real grungy superhero style starting there and building up to seeing his version of absolutely wild cosmic spectacle. And no, to respond to one of the initial asks, I’m not worried about the impact on Superman. Everyone seems to have accepted this is its own distinct thing whether they like it or not, I think him getting to complete his ‘arc’ will quiet down many of the folks who like to yell at every other version as retro nonsense since now they’ll be able to be smug about having had the best take rather than pining for a lost finale, and I’m not interested in further Superman movies at the moment anyway with Superman & Lois in the pipe (which I was originally paranoid would be endangered by this when rumors first started floating, but if it’s been brewing since November then if they wanted to strike that down to ‘make room’ according to their Byzantine ever-shifting rules, they would have by now). Far as I’m concerned, as long as the other DC movies get to keep doing what they’re doing during and past this - even Pattinson in his corner, however that works - then totally let Snyder work out all his Wagnerian superhero bullshit for another flick or two. If nothing else, maybe we’ll learn what the hell that diagram up there is supposed to mean. And a plea I want to clarify upfront is wholeheartedly sincere: we’re already down the rabbit hole, so let Snyder to literally whatever he wants with his non-theatrically released Justice League. Zero input or veto power from outside parties. If he wants Flash to hang dong or Superman to say fuck or Batman to learn he’s Steppenwolf’s secret dad or Cyborg to learn he needs to eat babies to fuel his machine parts, let him go for it. Whole point is this is now his thing for people who want his thing.
Okay, beneath the cut the filter comes off, so go ahead if that’s your jam.
Hahahahahahaha this is gonna be such a fuckin’ shitshow you guys, Jesus Christ.
Tumblr media
They’re giving the dude who did BvS and wants to make an Ayn Rand adaptation someday $30 million to take another crack at this monstrosity! 30 goddamn million smackaroos for four fucking hours of by many accounts roughly the same basic movie, except now presumably with what little coherency, fun, and clean character work the theatrical cut managed to pull off excised in return for weighty staring, ponderous pseudo-philosophical musings, hackneyed symbolism, aimless mythology teasing, and Steppenwolf I understand being decapitated by Wonder Woman at the end rather than taken back to Apokolips. I didn’t even spoiler mark that shit because don’t you dare pretend you care about the fate of Steppenwolf. I won’t have it.
I used to wonder if I was indeed missing the forest for the trees with these movies, that I was so inflexible in my personal image of these characters - even though I appreciate plenty of alternate takes on them and even some stories that bend or break what I consider their ‘rules’, just not these - that I was incapable of grasping or appreciating these films on their own merits as works of art using those archetypes in wildly different ways; even I could see there were good moments and interesting ideas on display despite seemingly failing to come together. No matter how much I personally deconstructed how and why it wasn’t working, I couldn’t do it to my own satisfaction to the point of stamping out that niggling little worry with how many folks whose opinions I respect love ‘em. Until I finally remembered that the Cadmus arc of Justice League Unlimited is totally the same basic story as BvS, centrally driven by an even worse take on Superman, and that’s still one of the best superhero stories of all time. These just stink by any merits, and while I think Justice League absolutely has the potential to be the most *entertaining* of the bunch, it’s not going to magically become *good* in the eleventh hour. Not to lift up Joss Whedon of all people as some kind of savior, I’m on the record that my love for Justice League as-is is some kind of inexplicable alchemical accident, but I promise that there is not going to be one single addition to this movie that’s going to make up for the removal of “Just save one person”.
Also I’m already not looking forward to dudes tweeting “whoa, he’s splitting it up into a serialized narrative, reflective of the sequential nature of the characters’ primitive native pictorial medium! Or mayhap in ode to the pulp film adventure serials which inspired those in turn! Even the Justice League children’s cartoon for dumb babies, which was itself...made up of episodes! That’s three references in the structure of the thing alone! The man’s operating on an entirely different level!” “God, isn’t it amazing how much better he understands the source material than you”, they shall say, about a man who I understand just very confidently referred to Doomsday in his livestream as having destroyed Krypton in the comics. Again, don’t you say they won’t, just the other day I saw folks tweeting they just realized that since Jor-El wears armor over his bodysuit that technically means Superman’s whole costume is underwear which means Snyder’s totally honoring that without putting him in ugly dumb red panties so checkmate, dorks.
(Okay, in fairness, I know Snyder was saying that’s his take on what happened to the moon in the past of the movies and maybe I only misheard that he thought that also happened in the comics, and it’s trivial information anyway. Still sucks though, that seeming out-of-nowhere Jax-Ur shoutout was like the one thing I liked about that otherwise interminable Krypton sequence. And why is there a second Doomsday? You did Death of Superman already!)
And further SPOILER thoughts below on the reported plots of 2 and 3:
It’s also an amazing, perfect sort of narrative synchronicity that the hypocrisy of Man of Steel in presenting Superman as a savior would (will?) be matched by the movies also rejecting that promise long-term. In there, Jor-El’s musings on the capacity of every living thing being capable of good, the closest the film has to a singular moral statement, are proven wrong when Zod has to be put down like a mad dog, and rather than the one who’ll bring us into the sun, Kal-El’s presence draws ruin from beyond the stars to our world. And again in BvS with Doomsday. And again in Justice League 1-3, where in spite of claims by Snydercutters that it’s okay for Superman to be a really lousy take on Superman because it’s totally supposed to take several movies after putting on the costume and calling himself Superman, including his own death and resurrection, for him to really, like, become Superman, man, he remains a liability to the end. His death lures in Steppenwolf, the Kryponian matrix in his genes is Darkseid’s goal, he becomes the villain of the first act of Justice League 3 - possibly of his own free will depending on which version you’ve heard about - and at the final showdown, it’s Batman who sacrifices himself to stop Darkseid and save the world and inspire the rise of superheroism, because Batman, you see, rules, whereas Superman, stay with me here, drools. A letdown given BvS was just about the one major story of the last 30 years to unambiguously conclude Superman is better than Batman, but not a shocker. None of what I understand goes down in these - iconography from the likes of Fourth World, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Death and Return of Superman, Rock of Ages, Final Crisis, and Injustice reused but stripped of all context and thematic weight that gives it meaning (even Injustice is built on the premise of having a ‘good’ Superman to contrast the dictator); Lois being the ‘key’ because of her connections to two men, one she married and one she bears; time travel that even by the very generous suspension of disbelief applied to it in a genre like this operates by two obviously completely different sets of rules in its only two uses, and is then used to write the entire second movie of the trilogy out of continuity in the first act of the third, making one and a half of these movies pointless - is shocking. It’s just more empty notions and unfulfilled promises offered up to a fanbase staking everything on the idea that all the tampering, all the wild swings, all the meandering, it’s all building UP to something, not possibly just a dude who doesn’t understand these characters but wanting to look very clever with them before building up to one more rad punch-up. So yes, make these movies. Let what can be gleaned from them as worthwhile be revealed, leave the rest of it up for examination to be judged as it deserves and let it, finally. Finally. Be done.

Eddie Kaspbrak and Richie Tozier had been college roommates for five months and counting. Their first year at college, Eddie lived with a randomly selected student named Stanley Uris; a tall Jewish boy with cleaning habits that were happily on par with Eddie’s standards. They were a good fit, and soon became good friends as well. They would probably still be rooming together if it weren’t for Richie’s roommate, Bill Denbrough. Richie had been lucky enough to get paired up with one of their oldest friends, but after Eddie introduced his roommate to the pair, any hope of living with Stan for an extra year went out the window. Stan and Bill began dating and got serious pretty quickly. So when second year came around, they decided to live together, leaving Richie and Eddie to either fend for themselves in the roommate system or move in together.
They, of course, chose the later. Despite having glaringly different personalities and hygiene habits, they were best friends, and figured that could carry them through any bumps they might have while living together. One bump that neither of them anticipated, however, was years of sexual tension coming to a head. It became increasingly harder for Eddie to ignore when Richie pranced around their room in low slung sweat pants, the clear outline of something tantalizingly off-limits staring Eddie down. Likewise, Richie had to suffer watching Eddie’s toned thighs squeezed into shorts so short it should be illegal, forcing himself to shut his eyes anytime Eddie bent over, for fear of combusting on the spot.
This unspoken tension led them both to seek release elsewhere. Richie began going to parties more frequently, often sleeping over at whoever’s house he’d slept with that night. Eddie preferred a more controlled approach, downloading Grindr and spending most nights teasing whatever poor sap popped into his inbox.
Eddie had met a few interesting guys on the app, going as far as to meet two of them in person, but nothing much came of the encounters. He stayed in touch with one of them, a tall slender boy named Ricky. The two of them would call on each other when they got too pent up.
Tonight was one of those nights. It was nearly the end of the semester and Eddie had just finished writing a paper and sending it off to his professor. He felt the familiar restless stir of exhaustion clouding his judgement just slightly, just enough to make the idea of putting on whatever movie he could find and cuddling up to Richie sound like a good one.
He glanced over at his clock, which indicated that Richie wouldn’t be home from his class for an hour. Eddie groaned, irritated that he wouldn’t be able to torment his love-struck brain for another 60 minutes. So, to kill the time, Eddie did what any horny young adult would do.
He began palming himself through the stiff jeans he’d been wearing all day, quickly shucking them to the ground and ridding himself of his pink polo as well. Once more comfortable, he was able to get a better grip on his length through the thin fabric of his boxer briefs, starting with teasingly slow movements that set his nerve endings on fire.
Once he’d stroked himself to full hardness, he got an idea. Reaching for his phone, he opened a conversation with Ricky and started typing out a message.
Thinking of you. Pretending your huge hands are wrapped around me, your warm mouth taking me apart.
He opened the camera and snapped a quick picture of his erection straining against his briefs, a noticeable wet spot front and center where his head was leaking pre-cum against the fabric.
After attaching the picture, he sent the message, setting his phone aside so he could pull his briefs off and finally get a hand on his aching cock.
It took less than a minute for him to receive a reply.
fuck fuck fuck holy fuck
Eddie should have noticed that Ricky wasn’t typing the way he usually did. He also should have noticed that the contact name said “Richie”, and not Ricky”… But he was too fatigued, his tired inhibitions lowered just enough to make the conscious mistake and ignore it.
Stroking himself with one hand, he fumbled to type with his other.
That all you have to say? He taunted, following up with another two messages. You don’t want to tell me what to do with myself? He sent, followed by another picture, this one much less restricted.
jesus fucking christ eddie don’t stop touching that gorgeous cock of yours. show me a little more. have you stretched yourself out? The reply read.
Eddie flushed as his arousal took over. Keeping one hand glued to his phone, the hand stroking him ventured lower to his puckered hole. He fingered himself regularly, so pushing one digit in to the knuckle right away was easy. He worked himself for a while before finally being able to push in a second finger. After that he wasted no time in angling his camera to snap a picture of his filled asshole, sending it off as requested.
The reply came immediately, as if Ricky had been watching his phone intently. oh baby, that’s cute but you’re gonna need to add a couple more fingers to take me.
Eddie remembered Ricky being about average size, so he chuckled to himself at the boy’s cockiness but chalked it up to dirty talk. And besides, it was working. Eddie’s cock twitched at the idea of being filled with something so big he’d need four fingers just to get himself ready. He decided to play along.
Why don’t you come over here and stretch me out yourself?
The reply took longer this time. In the meanwhile, Eddie grabbed the lube from his dresser, retracting his hand to coat his fingers generously before lining himself back up and plunging those same two fingers deep into himself. He fucked down onto his hand, picturing himself bouncing on Ricky’s cock. Lacing his fingers into that long black hair, staring into those deep blue eyes that reminded him so much of-
His phone buzzed with an incoming message, and Eddie nearly knocked it off the bed as he scrambled to grab it.
fuck i’ll be there in 5 i’m leaving class early
Eddie stared down at his phone with confusion. Ricky didn’t go to the same college as Eddie, how was he going to get to him so fast? He was at least a fifteen-minute drive away. He shrugged it off, not really caring how long it took him to get there as long as it meant Eddie was getting laid.
With the promise of sex in his near future, Eddie slowed his mannerisms, opting for measured, languid strokes on his cock and teasing twists of his fingers. He’d brush his prostate every so often, hissing at the contact, but forcing himself to ease off.
Suddenly he heard a key in his door. He frantically began grasping for his sheets in a desperate attempt to at least cover himself up before Richie came barging in. “Holy fuck, spaghetti man! Were you trying to give me a heart attack in class?” Richie barreled through the door, tripping as he struggled to get his jacket and his shoulder bag off at the same time. He was completely out of breath, his curls falling into his eyes but also sticking up in dishevelment as if he had been touching it too much.
Eddie stared at him bewildered, clutching his sheets to his body in a vice grip as his brain swam to try and piece things together.
“I mean, listen I’m all about public sex, but public boners are another thing.” Richie continued as his breath evened out. He hopped side to side while trying to get his shoes off and nearly fell over himself in the process.
“Ask me to bend you over a desk in the middle of class, I’m there for ya babe. But jacking one out by myself under a desk? Definitely not as sexy.”
Richie had gotten himself down to his boxers in an impressive amount of time, the grin never leaving his face even as he rambled through his nerves.
Finally, the pieces fell into place. Eddie glanced at his phone, still face up and open to his conversation with, yep there it was, Richie.
At Eddie’s obvious hesitation, Richie’s face became somber.
“Do you not want to do this anymore? Fuck - did I - was it something- god one sec, I can just put my pants back on and-” Richie’s voice had gone back to frantic, but what had been excitement had now shifted to guilt. Eddie found his chest clenching at the idea that Richie might think Eddie didn’t want to sleep with him, because, god that was absolutely not the case. It may not have been the plan from the start, but seeing Richie in his underwear, thinking back to the texts that he now knew were sent by Richie, it had him speaking before he could think twice.
“No! No, I- I want to. I just needed a minute.”
Richie turned back around from where he’d been leaning down to gather his clothes, his shoulders visibly loosened but he stayed in place, wanting to give Eddie his space.
After a few deep breaths, Eddie was able to fully grasp the situation unfolding before him. And instead of the intense panic he thought he’d be feeling, he felt overwhelming exhilaration at the prospect of what was about to happen. With one last shaky breath, he spoke. “So, you wanna put that trash mouth to good use or what?”
Richie shot over to him in an instant, hovering over him so nothing but the thin sheet and Richie’s boxers separated them. Eddie could feel the heat from Richie’s body, feel the tickle of his breath against his skin, but nothing compared to the look in Richie’s eyes as he gazed down at him. Eddie could feel it in his bones.
Richie seemed to be feeling the same excited thrum, glancing from Eddie’s deep eyes to his plush lips and back again. It was clear he wasn’t sure how to approach this, I mean, is there an algorithm for kissing your best friend for the first time?
Eddie took pity on Richie’s obvious hesitation, reaching his hands out and fisting them in Richie’s hair to pull him forward. Their lips slotted together eagerly, and any lingering reservations melted away.
Their mouths opened to one another welcomingly, encouraging a deepening of the kiss with tongues and teeth.
Richie settled his hands on Eddie’s chest, just above the edge of the sheet that Eddie had used to cover himself. His fingers grazed at hardened nipples and Eddie keened in response.
“You like that?” Richie inquired between kisses, repeating his movements on both of Eddie’s pink buds.
“Hnnnng- yes, fuck.” Eddie moaned, grabbing Richie’s lower lip between his teeth and nibbling.
Their actions were playful, a lead up to the main event, but they indulged in the feeling of one another for as long as they could. They explored new expanses of body, got to know one another in the most intimate of ways, until Eddie could describe exactly how Richie tasted and Richie could recreate the sounds of Eddie’s moans perfectly.
Wriggling bodies had led to Eddie’s sheet moving downwards, inch by inch, letting their warm bodies connected in new places over and over. It was when it finally lowered that last inch, and Richie felt warm wetness smear on his stomach, that he finally let out his first groan.
It was guttural, filling the room with desire. He peered down the length of their torsos, seeing just the tip of Eddie’s pink cock peeking out at him. Pre-cum was smeared across the head, and it stretched across to Richie's own stomach in a thin line.
Richie threw his head back, an intentional whine leaving his lips to convey just what Eddie was doing to him.
“Good god Kaspbrak, I’m about three seconds away from cumming in my pants like a middle schooler.”
Eddie’s face flushed, the idea of Richie cumming in his pants not all that unenticing. But he also wanted to get fucked, get to see and feel that infamous cock Richie always boasted about.
As if reading Eddie’s mind, Richie began switching their positions.
“I’ve got an idea.”
Eddie went along with it, leaving himself pliant so Richie could adjust him however he’d like.
They ended up sprawled across the bed, Richie on his back, pulling Eddie up over his chest with his legs spread on either side of his head. Eddie was facing away from him, having to crane his neck to look over his shoulder just to watch the way Richie took him in. With slow, steady hands, Richie parted Eddie’s cheeks, a groan leaving his throat as he let his head drop back against his pillow.
“Do you know how many times I’ve pictured this?” Richie punctuated his thought by kneading Eddie’s cheeks. “Every time you wear those tight little red shorts, it’s like you’re on full display for me but I can’t touch you. I’d lay awake at night, fantasizing about what you’d taste like, how you’d feel clenching around my tongue, writhing above my body.”
Eddie’s body responded to the words like a command, beginning to writhe in his spot on its own accord.
“Mmm Richie…” Eddie’s hands tried to find purchase, desperate to center himself before Richie’s words alone took him away. He settled for leaning forward slightly and bracing himself against Richie’s chest, strong and stable and grounding. That feeling was fleeting as Richie began placing open mouthed kisses across Eddie’s thighs, cheeks, and then settling over his heat. The first flick of his tongue sent Eddie soaring, unimaginable warmth spreading through his body.
Eddie ground down involuntarily, chasing the fire that was igniting his bones. He received enthusiastic licks in return, and the feeling of Richie humming in delirium beneath him.
“You taste just as sweet as I imagined.” Richie purred.
Eddie decided he also wanted to taste Richie. In fact, he wanted so much more than that; he wanted to absolutely devour him, strip him of everything he was until all Eddie could taste, see, hear, feel was RichieRichieRichie.
He knew Richie had meant for this to be a cool down period, so he could catch his bearings before fucking Eddie as mind-numbingly as he’d promised. But Eddie was so close, just a thin layer of fabric separating him from what he wanted.
Eddie reached forward and palmed at the bulge straining for freedom. He felt bad for it, all it wanted to do was play, and Eddie was so willing to indulge it.
“Eddie…” Richie warned from behind him.
Eddie didn’t listen. He slipped Richie’s cock out of hole of his boxers, ignoring the barrage of cautions from Richie.
Eddie regarded Richie’s cock, veins straining against flushed skin, head beading with pre-cum, bobbing against his stomach every time Eddie did something that particularly wound him up. It was right there, a mere three feet away. All Eddie had to do was lower his head, reach out and lick a hot stripe against it…
“Oh fuuuuuck-” Richie growl rang through the room as Eddie enveloped him in his warm mouth. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, Eds.”
Richie had stilled his movements in favor of recalling every swear word he’d ever learned, but Eddie didn’t mind. The interruption gave him time to focus, swirling his tongue around the head of Richie’s cock tantalizingly. Emboldened by Richie’s vocal praise, Eddie sunk down as far as he could, letting his chin rest against Richie’s abdomen for a moment before pulling back up and then repeating the action. After a while of deep-throating him, Eddie felt Richie’s tongue prodding back at his hole. His moan was muffled by the intrusion in his throat, but it only aided the vigor with which Richie began attacking him.
What had been languid licks before had now turned into determined laps, as if Richie was searching for treasure and it was buried inside Eddie. Richie introduced a finger easily, slipping into the last knuckle and crooking it upwards as he licked around his digit. Eddie’s knees buckled as Richie found the treasure he was looking for and began stroking it mercilessly.
“Richieeee!” Eddie wailed as he pulled away from his cock, a line of spit connecting the two.
He heard a dark chuckle escape Richie, but otherwise there was no indication he’d even heard Eddie’s cry. He continued to rub at the spot that made Eddie see stars, only stopping momentarily to add another finger. Richie’s fingers were bigger than Eddie’s, longer too. They were able to reach places inside him that Eddie simply couldn’t. Two of Richie’s fingers easily felt like three of Eddie’s, stretching him open with a delicious burn only soothed by Richie’s tongue.
He felt himself quickly approaching the point of release and tried to pull away. “Stop, ‘Chee, I-I’m gonna, an’ I don’t wan’to yet- Richie p-please.” Eddie slurred, trying to get the message across through the frenzy of his mind.
Thankfully Richie stopped a moment later, keeping his lips moving down Eddie’s thighs while stilling his fingers completely.
“Not so fun when you’re on the receiving end, huh?” Richie teased.
Eddie was panting heavily enough to warrant a soothing hand down his back. Memories of Richie using that same tactic to soothe Eddie during Freshman year when he’d have panic attacks flooded his mind. Even back then Eddie wanted him so badly, but he was so quick to push away his desires before even acknowledging them.
“Richie, I want you.” Eddie said, voicing his thoughts. “I need you.” He was scrambling around now, trying to face Richie as his heart led his limbs. “I need you, I need you, I need you.” Eddie’s voice was insistent, it held desperation and lust, but they both heard the longing in there too.
“Hey, hey.” Richie grabbed Eddie’s face, stopping his near frantic movements. “You have me.”
Their eyes bore into each other, mapping years of untold confessions.
“Then prove it.” Eddie begged.
It took a beat for Richie to nod, but then he was peppering kisses all over Eddie’s chest, flipping them over so Eddie was the one with his back flush against the mattress. Eddie wasted no time before running his fingers through Richie’s mop of hair, combing it back from his face so he could watch as he gazed up at him with fire burning in his eyes. When Richie reached Eddie’s hips, he began leaving love bites in his trail, moving lower until he had Eddie’s legs thrown over his shoulders and two fingers deep inside him, repeating their ministrations from before. He took Eddie’s cock into his mouth as he pushed a third finger in, trying to distract Eddie from the mild stretch. He worked Eddie open while exploring his cock with his mouth, finding out that Eddie would jump a little every time he flicked his tongue against his frenulum.
When Richie finally deemed Eddie stretched enough to take him, his actions slowed down. He climbed up Eddie’s body with intent, stopping only to push his boxers down his legs and kick them off the bed. Fixing his eyes on Eddie’s, he lined himself up with Eddie’s heat, the head of his cock receiving kisses from Eddie’s hole trying to clench around nothing. Suddenly the fever they’d been working through had dropped and Richie found himself flooded with nerves.
What if he wasn’t good enough? What if he couldn’t please Eddie? What if it all went to shit, and he not only lost any chance he had with Eddie, but their friendship too? Years of emotions came crashing into his chest like a sinking ship against the storm’s eye, his mind spiraling.
The feeling of Eddie’s hand on his brought him back to the moment. He realized with a frown that his hands were shaking. Eddie was gazing at him with an unreadable expression.
“Sorry partner,” Richie tried to joke, taking on an awful rendition of a southern accent. “Got distracted by this here beautiful behind!” He tried to smack Eddie’s ass but Eddie’s hold on his hand held him back.
Eddie sighed as he propped himself up on his elbows. “What’s wrong, Richie?” He asked in a voice that’s intimacy sent another pang straight to Richie’s heart.
“Whaddayamean?” Richie shot back with a shrug and a grin that didn’t meet his eyes.
They held each other’s gaze for a few challenging moments before Richie let his posture fall, along with his façade.
“I’m scared I won’t be enough for you.” He whispered, heart clenching around his vulnerability. They both knew Richie wasn’t just referring to this moment, the promise of more an underlying theme in everything they’d been doing.
Eddie lifted his hand to Richie’s cheek, cradling his world in his palm. His smile was warm and gentle, nonthreatening in its existence, an immediate cure to Richie’s hammering heartbeat.
“You’ll always be enough...” Eddie murmured, matching Richie’s quiet tone. “Always have been enough.” He added calculatingly, watching Richie’s face for signs that he’d said too much, gone too deep, despite them both knowing how true the sentiment was. Eddie Kaspbrak was in love with Richie Tozier, and Richie Tozier was in love with Eddie Kaspbrak. It was a certainty the universe had known for years.
Eddie thought he saw a glisten in Richie’s eyes, but it was blinked away swiftly. Richie leaned in, capturing Eddie’s lips in a tender lock.
“Thanks Eds.” Richie whispered against his mouth before pushing forward just slightly, letting the head of his cock breach Eddie’s opening.
Eddie’s responding moan was unexpected, surprising them both. Eddie couldn’t remember the last time, or any time, that he’d felt like this. He could feel Richie pulsing inside him, warmth just beginning to fill his channel, and already it was overwhelmingly comforting.
Sex had been a lot of things for Eddie; pleasure, relief, a means to pass the time. Never had it been soothing, like a breath of fresh air, like a warm hug from your best friend.
Eddie instinctively wrapped himself around Richie, ankles locking behind his back and arms behind his neck. He couldn’t let Richie pull out, couldn’t let him leave Eddie feeling empty again now that he knew what it meant to feel whole.
“More.” Eddie begged, trying to pull Richie closer with all his limbs.
“Okay, okay I’ve got you, don’t worry.” Richie tried soothingly, noticing the change in Eddie’s composure. Richie let himself be led by the pull, sinking deeper into Eddie until he was seated fully inside.
A sudden puff of air against the crown of his head signaled that Eddie had been holding his breath.
“Hey,” Richie pulled back slightly, cupping Eddie’s cheek so he could keep his gaze fixed. “I need you to breath for me.”
Eddie nodded compliantly, taking in a few steady breaths and relaxing around Richie. His arms and legs still clung to him like a koala, but the grip was loosening, becoming less frantic.
“I’m gonna start moving now, okay?”
Eddie nodded, adjusting himself on the bed so Richie had a better angle to pull back from.
And just like that, a languid rhythm was set.
Every drag of Richie’s cock made Eddie’s heart race, his belly filling with lava that threatened to overflow.
Richie was bigger than anyone Eddie had ever been with, and he hated to admit that he knew he’d feel an ache in his muscles tomorrow, even with Richie’s attempted softness.
So, if he was going to feel it regardless…
“Come on Richie, that all you got?” Eddie prodded, swiveling his hips for emphasis.
Richie’s eyes flashed with determination, always one to be easily provoked with a challenge.
“You want more?” Richie’s voice was lower suddenly, the kind of low that gritted through his throat and right into the twitch of Eddie’s cock.
Richie grabbed Eddie’s legs, unhooking them from around his waist and pinning them next to Eddie’s head in an instant. The result had Eddie folded in half, his lower back no longer touching the mattress. He thanked whatever god blessed him with such flexibility because if it was any other person in his position, he thinks they might’ve snapped.
The new position gave Richie full control over Eddie, holding him in place and pulling out slowly, watching as his cock stretched the skin of Eddie’s tight hole before thrusting back in roughly.
Eddie screamed as Richie hit his prostate dead on.
“This what you want?” Richie asked, repeating the slow pull and hard thrust.
“Faster.” Eddie begged, letting his eyes shut as tears collected in the corners.
Richie obliged, but only marginally, the pace still not fast enough.
“Richie, faster.” Eddie insisted.
Once again, Richie picked up his pace just slightly, leaving Eddie scrambling for more.
“Richie, please, I need-” Eddie couldn’t finish his sentence, the wind knocked out of him as Richie began ramming into him in earnest.
“Hmm, this what you want baby? You want to be fucked?”
Eddie felt his eyes rolling to the back of his head, the tears spilling freely now that Richie was hitting his prostate with every thrust. The moans were being knocked out of him consistently now, getting increasingly louder as Eddie approached the edge.
Richie had already been ready to combust the moment he’d felt Eddie’s cock against his skin, had been even closer when Eddie had introduced the warmth of his mouth, and now he was tight rope walking above his release, one wrong move and he’d be cutting things short.
But his resolve to make this good for Eddie kept him going, kept his muscles clenched and his mind focused. However even the most determined individuals have their breaking point, so when Eddie began whimpering that he was close, Richie almost cried in relief.
He was quick to grasp Eddie’s cock, pumping it in succession with his thrusts. The combination of stimulation left Eddie no time before he was cumming in streaks across both their chests, his mouth forming a little O as all noise was knocked from his lungs.
Richie came along with him, spilling into Eddie in quick bursts that left his legs trembling.
Their bodies deflated along with their cocks, softening into one another as their breaths evened out. Richie pulled out eventually, watching a trail of cum follow him out of Eddie’s body.
Richie was tempted to lick him clean, but if he was honest, he was far too spent to be instigating any more activity. So instead he opted to grab a tissue and wipe them up as best he could, deciding they would shower off the rest later.
Eddie watched him with smile crinkled eyes as he crawled back into bed, turning to face Eddie with a matching smile of his own.
“So uh, any time you wanna sext me again, you know, feel free to.” Richie joked through a dry throat, his words cracking slightly.
Eddie snuggled in closer, resting his head on Richie’s bicep and letting his eyes close from fatigue.
“Mmm.” He hummed sleepily.
“Unless, you know, you’ve got other options.” Richie added, the joke falling flat as the insecurity eased into his voice.
“No one else comes to mind.” Eddie promised sincerely.
And it was true, now that he had what he’d always wanted, no one else would ever compare.

What is the best/most effective way to learn new vocabulary? How do you learn new vocab?
As far as I know, the most effective way to learn vocabulary, that science has discovered so far, is spaced repetition.
Using spaced repetition means you take a Korean word or sentence, learn it for the first time, then let short amount of time pass and review it. Then:
if you know the answer you increase the amount of time before you review it again
if you don’t know the answer you shorten the amount of time before you review it again
This way you don’t waste time on Korean vocabulary you know well, and instead review vocabulary you started to forget. It prevents the word from disappearing from your memory and you having to reforge brain connections. Instead, you keep refreshing already existing connections until they become permanent.
You can do this by yourself with paper flashcards, creating piles and keeping track of time - which is way too complicated for my taste because there is software today that does all this for you.
The most popular ones are Anki and Memrise. They have built-in algorithms for spaced repetition.
I use Memrise.
My process of learning Korean vocabulary is basically this:
get a Korean word I want to learn (I have several self-created courses, one for vocabulary from my Korean textbook, one for a webtoon I am reading, one for honorific versions of words I come across, one for random words I find interesting etc.)
get the definition, Hanja (if it exists), and pronunciation (if it’s complicated) from Naver dictionary
put all of that into Memrise
if the word is abstract or difficult to remember, also add sample sentences. (This helps me see the word more times, and also helps me learn context in which the word is used.)
learn, review, review, review, learn, review, learn, review, review….
This is what my Memrise courses look like
Tumblr media
Bonus Vocabulary Learning Tips:
Don’t expect vocabulary learning to be quick and easy. To speak a language you will need to know thousands and thousands of words. It’s not unusual for this to take several years (or longer).
Make sure to learn an even mix of vocabulary from sources that interest you and vocabulary you have to learn. If it’s just beginner vocabulary from textbooks or courses you might get bored. Do you like Korean history? Kpop? Kdrama? Korean movies? Korean games? Makes sure to include that vocabulary as well. It will help keep you reminded why you’re learning Korean and make studying more exciting.
Courses I create myself are way more effective than using premade courses from other people. I learn while creating them, I know why each word is included, and I know the context for each word.
Context is even more important when learning vocabulary for language such as Korean, which is so different (unless you speak Japanese). For example, no use knowing the word for “sorry” in Korean if you don’t know “I am sorry” is not the way to show empathy for someone’s misfortune.
Don’t learn words in logical groups. This one may sound counterintuitive, but I read research that said if you learn, for example, all the synonyms for “cold”, or all vocabulary related to one topic such as weather, that ayou will learn slower, mix up words more often, and forget quicker.
Try choosing shorter sentences if you’re adding sample sentences, especially into apps that require typing like Memrise. One small typo is enough to make you retype that sentence over and over again in short intervals of time, and it gets old real soon.
Learn managable amount of words per day. It might feel exciting, when you have more time, to quickly increase the number of Korean words you know but you will also forget them quickly which means you will have to review them often. When you suddenly have hundreds or even thousand of words to review and you’re busy with life it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and quit.
In short, whatever you do, make sure to keep it as manageable and as fun as possible. The most effective way to learn vocabulary is to keep learning it.

Free Tinder Gold And Tinder Plus 2020
Free Tinder Hack No Human Verification 2020:
While you’re out mining dating apps for love this Valentine’s Day, these platforms are doing the same to your data. That’s because these apps and sites’ business models rely on the information you provide, to determine things like the matches they suggest and the ads they show you as you swipe.
GET FREE GOLD HERE
FREE TINDER PLUS HERE
But in a sea of strangers’ profile pictures, it can be hard to tell how, exactly, services like Tinder and OkCupid choose the suggested matches for you that they do. After all, the algorithms that power these platforms are proprietary, and companies have no interest in dishing out intimate details about how they work, neither to us nor their competitors.
Still, the information these companies have volunteered (and what they’ve disclosed thanks to data privacy laws like the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation) can give us a good idea of how they generally work. As to whether these algorithms are actually better than the real world for finding love? That’s still up for debate, though that hasn’t stopped 30 percent of US adults from trying one of these platforms at least once in their lives.
How To Get Free Tinder Gold 2020:
What types of data do dating sites track, and who can get it? Join the Open Sourced Reporting Network
Tumblr media
Christina Animashaun/Vox Open Sourced is Recode by Vox’s year-long reporting project to demystify the world of data, personal privacy, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. And we need your help. Fill out this form to contribute to our reporting.
First and foremost, whatever data you explicitly share with a dating app or site, the platform now has it. Depending on the platform you’re using, that can mean your gender, sexual orientation, location data, political affiliation, and religion. If you’re sharing photos or videos through a dating app, yes, the company has access to those. And they might be screening them with AI too; Bumble uses such tech to preemptively screen and block images that might be lewd.
But a dating platform can also have access to data about your activity on social media platforms if you connect them to your dating profile. As journalist Judith Duportail recounted in the Guardian, the dating app platform Tinder had maintained at least 800 pages worth of information on her that included info from her Facebook and Instagram accounts (including her “Likes” and the number of Facebook friends she had) and the text of conversations she had with every single one of her matches on the app. (You too can try requesting some of your Tinder dating app data, if you’re curious.)
So whatever service you’re using, be it an app-based platform like Hinge or a website-based service like Match.com, it likely has a bunch of your data. And these platforms work with third-party services that can also receive information about you.
How To Hack Tinder For Android And IOS 2020:
For instance, a website data tracker can pick up the URLs you visit while you’re on a dating site and use that information to gather analytics or target ads at you, as we explained earlier this week. Your data could also be shared with third-party companies that your dating app might work with for the purpose of studying their site usage and to help target ads.
youtube
Some of these dating-sharing processes are questionable. For instance, back in 2018, Grindr was forced to admit that two companies it had paid to study its app usage were ultimately able to access information about its users’ HIV status (that practice has since been stopped). The Android versions of OkCupid and Tinder, which are both owned by the Match Group — which, yes, also owns Match.com — have reportedly shared users’ data, including information about their political views, ethnicities, and location, with a customer engagement service called Braze, according to research from consumer protection agency the Norwegian Consumer Council earlier this year. (Responding to this report, Match said that it does not use “sensitive personal information whatsoever for advertising purposes,” and that it uses third parties to “assist with technical operations and providing our overall services.”)
Though they share user data with third parties, dating companies generally claim that they’re not selling users’ personal data. But that doesn’t mean they can’t have security vulnerabilities. Here’s just one concerning example: A bug in the chat feature on the dating app Jack’d made it possible to view users’ images sent as “private” on the public internet, as reported by Ars Technica last year. And on Tinder, a security flaw caused by issues on both the Facebook platform and Tinder’s login system allowed researchers to take over accounts on the dating app with just a user’s phone number (the problem, which was raised in 2018, was quickly fixed).
Another privacy consideration: There’s a chance your private communications on these apps might be handed over to the government or law enforcement. Like a lot of other tech platforms, these sites’ privacy policies generally state that they can give your data when facing a legal request like a court order.
RELATED:
Your favorite dating site isn’t as private as you think How do the algorithms use my data to suggest matches? While we don’t know exactly how these different algorithms work, there are a few common themes: It’s likely that most dating apps out there use the information you give them to influence their matching algorithms. Also, who you’ve liked previously (and who has liked you) can shape your future suggested matches. And finally, while these services are often free, their add-on paid features can augment the algorithm’s default results.
Let’s take Tinder, one of the most widely used dating apps in the US. Its algorithms rely not only on information you share with the platform but also data about “your use of the service,” like your activity and location. In a blog post published last year, the company explained that “[each] time your profile is Liked or Noped” is also factored in when matching you with people. That’s similar to how other platforms, like OkCupid, describe their matching algorithms. But on Tinder, you can also buy extra “Super Likes,” which can make it more likely that you actually get a match.
You might be wondering whether there’s a secret score rating your prowess on Tinder. The company used to use a so-called “Elo” rating system, which changed your “score” as people with more right swipes increasingly swiped right on you, as Vox explained last year. While the company has said that’s no longer in use, the Match Group declined Recode’s other questions about its algorithms. (Also, neither Grindr nor Bumble responded to our request for comment by the time of publication.)
Hinge, which is also owned by the Match Group, works similarly: The platform considers who you like, skip, and match with as well as what you specify as your “preferences” and “dealbreakers” and “who you might exchange phone numbers with” to suggest people who could be compatible matches.
Tumblr media
But, interestingly, the company also solicits feedback from users after their dates in order to improve the algorithm. And Hinge suggests a “Most Compatible” match (usually each day), with the help of a type of artificial intelligence called machine learning. Here’s how The Verge’s Ashley Carman explained the method behind that algorithm: “The company’s technology breaks people down based on who has liked them. It then tries to find patterns in those likes. If people like one person, then they might like another based on who other users also liked once they liked this specific person.”
It’s important to note that these platforms also consider preferences that you share with them directly, which can certainly influence your results. (Which factors you should be able to filter by — some platforms allow users to filter or exclude matches based on ethnicity, “body type,” and religious background — is a much-debated and complicated practice).
But even if you’re not explicitly sharing certain preferences with an app, these platforms can still amplify potentially problematic dating preferences.
Get Tinder Unlimited Gold No Survey No Offer 2020:
Last year, a team supported by Mozilla designed a game called MonsterMatch that was meant to demonstrate how biases expressed by your initial swipes can ultimately impact the field of available matches, not only for you but for everyone else. The game’s website describes how this phenomenon, called “collaborative filtering,” works:
Collaborative filtering in dating means that the earliest and most numerous users of the app have outsize influence on the profiles later users see. Some early user says she likes (by swiping right on) some other active dating app user. Then that same early user says she doesn’t like (by swiping left on) a Jewish user’s profile, for whatever reason. As soon as some new person also swipes right on that active dating app user, the algorithm assumes the new person “also” dislikes the Jewish user’s profile, by the definition of collaborative filtering. So the new person never sees the Jewish profile.
Tumblr media
If you want to see that happen in action, you can play the game here.
Will these apps actually help me find love? A couple of respondents to our call-out (you, too, can join our Open Sourced Reporting Network) wanted to know why they weren’t having much luck on these apps. We’re not in a position to give individualized feedback, but it’s worth noting that the efficacy of dating apps isn’t a settled question, and they’ve been the subject of extensive debate.
One study last year found connecting online is now the most popular way to meet for US heterosexual couples, and Pew reports that 57 percent of people who used an online dating app found it to be at least a somewhat positive experience. But these apps can also expose people to online deception and catfishing, and Ohio State researchers suggest that people suffering from loneliness and social anxiety can end up having bad experiences using these platforms. Like so many tech innovations, dating apps have trade-offs, both good and bad.
Still, dating apps are certainly helpful tools for landing a first date, even if their long-term success isn’t clear. And hey, maybe you’ll get lucky.

okay this is probably a romcom plot, but: please imagine Brainy being set up on a dating app by someone, only he uses a fake name so nobody knows he's an alien, and at the same time, Kara gets convinced to join a dating app by Alex. Kara and Brainy end up matched with each other and agree to a date, hilarity ensues.
Are you kidding me? I absolutely love romcom tropes. Give me all the cliches. And the comedic potential of this one? Off the charts. The pining? Unbelievable.  love it.
“This is a terrible idea,” Brainy says, but makes no move to retrieve his phone from Winn’s clutches, only sighing in defeat when it chirps with a notification.
“Excuse me? This is an awesome idea,” Winn calls, not bothering to look up from the screen. There are a lot of fields to fill up and it’s kind of hard when you have to literally make half of it up as he goes. Dating apps were not made for people without a normal, sane, human backstory; for some reason, alien might be kind of a turn off for some people– or the beginning of a Criminal Minds episode, depending on your luck. “Are you sure we’re going with Barney, though? It’s a little too purple dinosaur, isn’t it?”
“But it’s my coffee and pizza name, and since you said my true name might be more of a third date thing,” Brainy makes a face as he recites his early argument. But it’s true, Winn’s right on that, this is a hill is prepared to die on, especially because it is a crucial part of their super secret plan. “It will be easier for me to answer to that, instead of a completely new alias.”
“Fine, fine,” he rolls his eyes. Thank god for mathematical algorithms that don’t take embarrassing names into account. The app promises to match people according to their interests and personality traits, bragging about connecting people with the love of their lives. It’s all very anti-Tinder, and Winn isn’t sure where he’s standing on that, but whatever. Who cares about morals, they have to think of the bigger picture here– the whole thing is useful and that’s what matters. “Here, you’re all set up. Now all you have to do is wait, soon enough the app will match you with a guy, gal, or non-binary pal. If you don’t like ‘em, swipe left and try again.”
“And this is supposed to show me my soulmate?” The disbelief is clear on his voice, matching with the unimpressed look he levels his phone.
“Well, not really, but you know. Someone, mathematically, it thinks would be good with you, someone you match with.” Winn shrugs, dropping his phone on his lap and standing up. He yawns, stretching, and starts slowly backing away to the door, “damn, look at the time, it’s so late, I should get going, but hey– don’t delete the app. Have some patience, ye of little faith.”
“Thank you, I suppose, although I did not ask you to do this,” Brainy pauses, frowning up at Winn. “In fact, you were the one that insisted.”
“And you’re welcome,” Winn salutes him, grinning like the cat who knows he’s got the cream, “I’m just looking out for you, man. That’s what friends are for, right?”
“Yes, indeed,” he agrees, watching him go with suspicion on his eyes and phone on his hand, “how thoughtful.”
“Yup, that’s me, Mr.Thoughtful. See you around, call if you need any help with the app!” Winn holds his breath until the cool, night air hits his face, then he breathes out, pulling up his own phone to text the eagle has landed.
we’re also a go here, is the answer a few seconds later.
great, operation stop the pining before we murder one of them is a go, he sends back.
yeah, we’re not calling it that
Im working on it, dw, Winn grins, already hailing a cab. He’s got some work to do at home.
*
“Alex, why do you hate me so?” Kara asks seriously, pillow hugged angrily to her chest, “this is a terrible idea! It’s literally how dozens of Law & Order episodes start. Or CSI. Or literally any other cop show.”
“Except Brooklyn 99,” Alex answers idly, more worried about setting up Kara’s profile on the app. “And don’t be melodramatic, there was no Tinder at that time.”
“It’s the same thing!” She whines from her side of the couch, “I’m your sister, why are you insisting on being accessory to my murder?”
“That’s incorrect, just because you’ve watched every season of Suits on Netflix, it doesn’t mean you know how to use legal jargon,” Alex types away, cleaning up her sister’s backstory so it fits better, nothing that could raise any potential flags. Just in case. They can never be too careful. “Here, it’s ready.”
Kara picks up her phone with the tip of her fingers as if it would suddenly blow up on their faces. She narrows her eyes, reading her brand new profile with judgemental eyes. “Not bad,” she says loftily, “but I stand by what I said. This is dumb. An algorithm can’t possibly know who I will or will not fall in love with– this is clearly preying on people’s desire to be loved, and on the whole myth created around true love, and–”
“Okay, okay, I get it,” she stops her tirade, easing the pillow from her fingers before Kara could rip something apart. “You don’t think it’s gonna work, that’s fair, I don’t think that either. But this is not about finding your one true love bullshit. It’s about you putting yourself out there and having some fun! And this app? It’s just going to narrow it down, make it a little easier for you, showing you people that share the same interests as you.”
The familiar, telltale crinkle dissolves from her face, but Kara still looks down dubiously at her screen. “Fine, ugh. But I’m giving it one go. If it crashes and burns like I know it will, it’s over. Deal?”
Alex grins, “deal.” She glances at the clock, startling when her own phone buzzes. the eagle has landed, the text reads. Alex bites back an even wider grin, texting back, we’re also a go here. “Hey, Kara? I think I’m heading home now, I need to swing by the grocery store.”
“Sure,” Kara replies easily, yawning and falling down on the empty spot on the couch, “I’ll call you if anything exciting happens, like my untimely murder.”
great, operation stop the pining before we murder one of them is a go, comes in the next text and Alex snorts, calling back distractedly, “yeah, yeah, you do that. Lunch tomorrow, don’t forget.”
“You’re way too blasé about this!” is the last thing she hears before the door closes. yeah, we’re not calling it that, she answers, rolling her eyes. Good, step one went down smoothly, now all they have left to do is wait, and hope Winn holds up his end of the plan.
Im working on it, dw
hack away, she sends, pocketing her phone. Step two is a go.

Recent Changes and My Thoughts
Yo what up, it's ya boi, back after years of inactivity and lurking just in time to watch the end of an age as the very definition of what this site is or what is considered "acceptable self-expression" is about to be forever altered, and I'd argue for the worse. I get it, child pornography is a serious issue and an absolutely horrid thing that shouldn't be tolerated anywhere, and it's pretty hard to curate, especially on a site like this. But in the name of fairness and preserving individual freedom and liberty and expression, I think that the only correct thing to do is continue to fight that fight and only punish wrongdoers, not an overkill mass ban on anything that could be potentially harmful, regardless of whether or not it is, removing the burden of curation from the staff at the expense of all of the innocents who've done nothing wrong. I can't help but think of all of the NSFW artists who got as far as they did simply by harmlessly exploring their fascination with sex acts and depicting them that will now be completely shut down and erased. All of the blogs that have gone inactive will have their work erased with no backup or archive available. I can't help but think of all of the sex workers who will have their livelihoods affected by this change. I can't help but think of all of the completely innocent people who have their posts automatically and incorrectly and unjustly censored because of the overkill censorship devices being trained to ban first and fine-tune later. I can't help but think of all of the people that we've ALREADY seen affected by the pre-staging for this change, with informational and helpful and even safety-centric content and even entire tags such as surgery tags for trans folks getting incorrectly getting hit by the filter. I'm absolutely mortified by the precedent that this change sets, that the burden of proof should be on the individual to fight and struggle to prove that their post is innocent rather than it needing to be proved their post is in violation before being censored. Even worse, the precedent that sex acts and adult content are utterly vile and shouldn't be allowed, without taking into account that sex can also be a tender and intimate and healthy thing that is completely natural and has nothing wrong about it, or that exploring it can be entirely innocent, or that it can be a genuine expression of love, not just a lewd and vile topic. It sets a precedent that sex is to be painted in a negative light, rather than a positive one. It sets the precedent that even in cases of people drawing sex acts as a form of self-expression or exploring the topic, or people demonstrating sex acts for safety purposes, or people showing sex acts in a healthy way, that it's not okay. Given that before this whole issue with the app store and sudden pressure by Apple, Tumblr was okay with making adult content 18+ and leaving it at that, punishing unacceptable content on a case by case basis, I'd argue it sets the precedent that eventually, if wrongdoers cause you enough struggle, it's perfectly acceptable to sacrifice your ideals and the liberties of the innocents to ease your own personal burden of fighting them and their heinous actions, which is essentially giving them a massive victory in my eyes, if easing your personal burdens is as pyrrhic a victory as that. And last but certainly not least, by Tumblr changing as radically as this as soon as Apple applied the pressure by removing the app from the app store, this change sets the precedent that it's perfectly acceptable to compromise yourself and change and bow to the will of those stronger than you simply because of their might alone, no matter what you're sacrificing. Tumblr says that they've been thinking about these changes and removing adult content for a long time, but let's be realistic, that's just corporate-speak to save face. No corporation would readily outright admit they're doing something because they feel forced to. The fact that they've been content to keep adult content restricted behind 18+ filters while fighting child porn and the like, as well as the fact that they felt the need to address child pornography in their statement and that this change comes right on the heels of their removal from the app store is all the proof I and I believe anyone should need to see that they're simply lampshading and trying to preserve their image. If simply being removed from the iOS app store, even though their site can still be accessed on Android, computer, and even iPhones that still have the app installed (such as I am doing presently), is all it takes for them to compromise their ideals and sacrifice our ability to express ourselves, explore topics and share information as we please without being harmful, make certain non-harmful professions completely unviable, forcibly define our perception of a completely healthy and natural subject, place the burden of struggle on us, and even go so far as to demonstrate that powerful people can get what they want by bullying other people and applying pressure and that standing up for yourself and the people that trust you and place their faith in you isn't worth it, then I don't believe Tumblr is a platform that deserves the patronage of anyone. Out of respect for oneself, the other members of the community, and a basic set of values and beliefs such as the freedom to act in whatever way one sees fit provided it isn't harmful, I don't believe Tumblr nor the staff that manage it deserve our patronage or support. I do sympathize with their plight. I know it must be difficult to go up against a foe as large as Apple and to ensure that only wrongdoers are punished on such a large scale, but I don't believe compromising yourself and caving to pressure and refusing to fight for what's right is the correct response. To that end, as a form of protest, I can only think of two viable options. One would be to preserve and archive as much of the content that's to be removed as possible, to upload as much content that could get potentially flagged as possible, whether fairly or unfairly flagged, and contest every single claim to drain their resources, and to reupload flagged content but altered and transformed to circumvent the algorithm. The other, which I'm personally going to exercise and would strongly urge everyone else to as well, would be to completely abandon this site. I know, I should probably suggest an alternative place, but with the wide variety of reasons people use Tumblr I don't think one site would fit all. But by abandoning the site due to these changes, it would send a message that this kind of behavior isn't acceptable. If they're so concerned about potentially losing users from their removal from the iOS app store that they'd radically change their site, it shows that maintaining a large userbase is important to them. Let's demonstrate that losing a potential amount of userbase growth and accessibility isn't worth spitting all over the existing and loyal userbase they already have that has placed their trust and faith in them to represent their interests and protect and fight for the community that has formed along with basic fundamental ideals and decency. So with that being said, I don't really have much more to say. I suppose I'll take my leave now. I hope to see things change for the better, but if not, I hope to see you all again somewhere else. Somewhere better. Farewell.

What Happened to Pandora’s “Music Genome Project”?
So remember back in the day, when Pandora was a new thing, they had this thing called the Music Genome Project? If you made a playlist on their site, based on one, or several bands, or one or several songs (or a radio station or w/e they called it), when they added songs to the playlist based on algorithmic suggestions, they would have these traits listed for each song, like ‘so and so type of rhythm’ or like ‘dark female vocals’ or something. (sorry i don’t know music terms lmao, I’m just guessing based on what I remember, they would describe things pretty specifically.) Every song would have a short list of traits and they would basically show the traits to help explain to you how they picked the other songs that would come up in your playlist. Now, at one time, I had made several radio stations, and I’ve always had pretty eclectic music tastes. I was surprised to find a convergence in a couple playlists, where a song by a band would come up in one, that I had never really considered having a related sound to whatever band I had started the station with. This happened to me a lot. And the music descriptions were helpful in seeing how maybe 2 bands I liked, while in completely different genres, had a similar mood, vocal type, rhythmic features, etc. It made me understand my musical tastes better and that while I like a LOT of different things, there are certain musical features that I end up gravitating towards and kind of look for as my favorites across several genres.
I was thinking about this RE: modern music playlist algorithms. Of course Spotify is most notable, I also had Apple Music for a while. And Pandora came “back” at some point, after seeming to fade into obscurity, but it seems as though they just redesigned their algorithm to be similar to Spotify, et al, because that is what is popular now. I don’t see any mention of the Music Genome Project on their site anymore, and you don’t see the listed details on songs. It seemingly works like all the other music apps. Which is a disappointment, because I believe it’s less likely to give “unexpected” suggestions where even though 2 songs aren’t algorithmically similar (whether in genre or part of some trend where 60% of people who listen to x, also listen to y, or whatever), they have similarities in some features or sounds that tie them together.
Now, I don’t know how any of these music app algorithms ACTUALLY work, so maybe I can’t tell & Pandora actually DIDN’T change theirs that much, but it at least SEEMS to be very similar to Spotify et al.
And on Spotify, I do see a lot of recommendations that seem very different at first glance, but I don’t think they’re based on a similarity in sound that is just surprising or unexpected, the way Pandora had been, but rather based on algorithms tracking certain like, genre listening trends. Like nowadays if you’re into certain kinds of alt music and generally informed about music on the internet, there are certain trendy exemplars of certain genres that if you listen to one, you’ll probably listen to another, even if the two things are actually fairly different in genre. So like, when I listen to harsher stuff like Lingua Ignota I’ll get suggestions for ... The Turning Wheel by Spellling for ex, even though the actual sounds are incredibly different. Probably in part bc those are both artists with high ratings from Anthony Fantano, and a lot of like, current alt music acclaim. I do like both of those artists, but there are probably a lot of fans of theatrical, nostalgic, heady, moody music like Spelling who would find Lingua Ignota’s anguished noise music really unpleasant or inaccessible, and there’s also probably people who are fans of lots of hardcore, noise music, black metal, avant garde, and/or screamo(??), who would be really overjoyed to find Lingua Ignota, doing something perhaps interesting and new to them in the realm of like, ‘harsher’ sounding music. Like people who don’t follow these trends or what’s big right now in alt music but just like things that sound like that. Etc. And I do seem to find these feedback loops where I keep getting the same bands suggested from different bands because I may be listening to a lot of things that are big right now, at least in like, alt/ music review kind of circles. But I’d like to see more suggestions come up because something just sounds similar in some way, again, not necessarily OBVIOUSLY but due to sharing certain core musical features. I miss the way Pandora did things before and actually being able to see those similar elements. And I am wondering if Pandora just changed their algorithm bc it was no longer as profitable to carry on this ‘project’ they had.
Would love to hear insights on this. Esp. from people who better understand music, algorithms/suggestion systems, or both!!!

LHR Affects Ravencoin HASHRATE On This 3080 Ti?
Tumblr media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbLH-EavULU   hey guys so what is up my pen mining here how and hope you're all doing really well and have a really great day in this video we're going to be testing out a no3d i chill x3 rtx 3080 ti and yeah this graphics card is quite interesting and anyways in this video we're gonna be trying out the ethereum hash rate ravencoin and ergo and we're gonna see how it's gonna fare in terms of power consumption and uh yeah all that stuff i have a separate power supply to see how much the gpu is taking so we're going to see how that all goes within this video hopefully you guys enjoy and i'll also update the hash rate spreadsheet that i have on google docs so link down below you guys may have saw the video where i already tested out a 3080ti founders edition and so i got a bunch of those hashrates already thank you to techshinji he is another youtuber who let me remote in to test that 3080ti so link down below to tech shinji's channel thank you so much man but anyways guys in this video i received this i chill x3 3080 ti from mineshop.eu and it looks like they got a couple of gpus for sale on their website as we speak looks like they have a 30 80 amp holo for sale i'm not quite sure if that's lhr or non-lhr but guys go check them out link down below mineshop.eu thank you so much all right so before i plug in the gpu i just want to show you guys something when i unboxed it the no3d they said here the product is not designed for crypto mining we reserve the right to void the warranty if there's any damage associated with this application no3d so i found that to be pretty funny it was the anti-static bag around this card and i just had to laugh and i posted it on instagram and a bunch of you guys laughed as well but anyways let me just flip it around here so you guys can see what else is going on with this graphics card it's just it's quite interesting there's a lot going on and uh i'll show you something in a sec here but i'm just showing you the back side of it so you guys can see what this gpu is all about and there's the two eight pins for power and here is the io this thing is extremely heavy it's it's quite amazing and i know this is gonna be lit up in terms of the rgb or the light bar as you guys can see on the box that looks pretty cool and then it also came with this like plastic insert that goes onto the back here i guess this is going to be lit up in terms of there must be rgb on the back here and then i had to screw it in and so there's another insert here it's just clear without the x3 marking so i thought that was pretty interesting pretty interesting anyways guys without further ado let me go ahead i'm going to plug it into my test mining rig here i have two 360s right now so i'm going to remove both and we're going to put the 3080ti on a gpu risers.com riser brand spanking new and also on a hp server psu this is from parallel miner using a 1200 watt psu going into a kilowatt meter that you guys can see right there all right so you guys will see the 3080 ti on there right now oh all right so it's been about about a week now i've been playing around with this 3080 ti and i've been kind of just scratching my head figuring out why i cannot get 80 mega hash or more on this 380 ti specifically and i will show you guys my results right now it's it's pretty sporadic between like 68 69 mega hash to like 73 mega hash and here are my settings so let me just talk with you all and what i've figured out with this card specifically and i know a lot of others have gotten different results out there with the 3080 ti and so here are the settings that i was able to achieve no matter what i did doing minus like 502 you know plus 100 or even like you know going from 100 to 200 300 400 500 600 and so on in terms of the memory as i was going higher in the memory i was losing mega hash alright so i don't know if that happened to you guys but let me know down below what 3080 ti that you guys have and let me know what settings you did in order to achieve whatever mega hash that you are able to get on your 3080 ti and i just want to show you like the id in terms of the tech power app it shows 2208 so i think that's the normal id for this you know this model of 38dti so you know we got we can get 71 now it's only been running for about 30 minutes now but you can look at my also memory temperatures which is 88 degrees celsius so that's totally fine and i'm using the latest version of nb miner 39.2 with the nvidia driver 471. 11 okay and no matter what i've tried so now i'm getting 73 now but then it's gonna go back to like 69 68 mega hash it just goes all over the place so there you go i i've tried even like if i go back to stock actually before i do that i want to show you the power consumption we are at the gpu or at the wall it says it's like you know 298 306 it jumps around but in the software it shows 267 okay or for what i'm able to achieve now if i just put everything back to stock okay and now also if i bring up the fan back up because i don't want it to get too hot so at the stock power now uh yeah it's going to change a bit i want to know from you all like if you guys have tested out the latest version of the nb miner with the dash lhr or even without it because i know nv miner now can do the lhr unlock without adding the dash lhr in the batch file okay so yeah that's something let me know down below what you guys get in terms of the mega hash but yeah maybe specifically this no3d i chill x3 which is really cool by the way i don't know what you guys think about this cooler but man it's got interesting rgb lighting on the back here with the little plastic piece i showed you guys earlier it looks like i can change this out if i wanted but i think i like the x3 logo one on it and then it's got the i chill light bar at the top which seems pretty cool but otherwise i don't really care about that i care about the the silicon i guess on this gpu specifically and i'm curious to know if maybe if there is a possibly another revision of the lhr as i think this 380 ti is maybe really recent in terms of manufacturing and okay so anyways just to show you guys 72 mega hash we got up there at about 267 watts and this is at 100 power this is just stock okay with 80 fan and you can see at the wall nothing has really changed we are still at 300 and around 300 watts for this gpu so i don't know what's going on maybe you guys can let me know if there's anything else i can try i did try doing ddu okay on this whole machine in windows i got rid of the nvidia driver installed brand new i did that reinstalled msi afterburner i even tried the latest nvidia driver just to see if that would unlock it maybe even more but no that didn't help at all i i don't know if i'm doing something wrong i tried dash lhr 68 lhr 69 lhr 70. I even tried 71 72 and so on just to see if i could get any better results and like i said earlier i tried all the different numbers in terms of the core in terms of the memory it seems like as i was getting higher memory it was getting worse mega hash so yeah i i just want to know like this is a really interesting card and i've seen people get 80. and there's someone on my discord that was able to get 85 on an evga for the win 3 edition card so i don't know what's up with that i don't know if that has a specific maybe different lhr method from the manufacturer but i want to know from you guys in terms of the brands in terms of the model in terms of the overclocks that you guys are able to use on your 3080ti let me know down below hopefully that will help others out there and yeah i've seen all different types of reports of different hash rates for these 38 dtis and yeah i'm just totally confused as to why this one whatever settings i try to do it just cannot get to the number that i've seen other people get all right so anyways let me know what you guys think i now want to try ergo and ravencoin so let's do ergo first i'll be right back all right we are mining ergo some of you guys were wondering maybe what the power consumption is of the motherboard and the power supply for the motherboard ssd ram cpu all that it's drawing about 21 20 20 watts right now okay and now we're mining ergo on this 3080 ti we're using about 327 watts at the wall i think this hp server psu is maybe not as efficient at the lower levels of power consumption maybe more towards 50 then we'll get more efficiency there but anyways i want to show you guys the ergo hash rate that i can achieve on this 3080 ti 272.5 mega hash on the auto lycos algorithm and the power consumption according to the software says 289 watts and then the memory temperature that some of you may want to know is about 82 degrees celsius so that's pretty good at 80 fan my ambient temperature right now where i am doing this video is it's pretty cool so this the temperature the memory temperature is on this 380ti it's not bad but i'm assuming once it gets hotter i guess during the summer time and now that fall is coming uh you know i won't know and until it gets hotter during the day but anyways that's the ergo hash rate i mean that's really good honestly i'm gonna take the ethereum hash rate the ergo hash rate and the raven coin hash rate in a second here and see what is the most profitable algorithm on this 380 ti that we achieved today okay and here are my overclock settings just in case some people are curious i was able to do 83 power limit minus 100 on the core and plus 1370 on the memory and 80 fan and that is the mega hash that i'm able to achieve on this card all right guys let's do ravencoin all right i have reason to believe that the no3d i chill x3 3080 ti is also like further lhred and maybe they figured out on the ravencoin algorithm kapow because i know for a fact that these 380 ti's are supposed to get above 50 megahash at stock power limit all right and you can see here i just put plus 150 core zero memory i'll show you guys something funny in a second here to show that when i add more memory the mega hash will start going lower so let me just show you guys that right now let me show you the initial power consumption 328 watts and the tdp of this thing is supposed to be 350 watts so isn't it theoretically supposed to be taking up the full power consumption now i wonder if the lhr is already activated because you can see here the tdp is uh 83.9 83 tdp right now even though i have the 100 power limit set and i have tried uninstalling afterburner clean install twice now with a clean install of the driver as well i did ddu and everything and this gpu cannot get above i can't get past 43 or 44 mega hash on this thing so let me just show you guys something let me put this up to let's just say 1000 memory just a moderate 1000 okay we're going to hit check i'm not going to change anything else and i want to show you guys here the i guess the memory controller load it was at a hundred okay it was at 100 before but when i just changed it to a thousand it's now down to about 87 percent now we're gonna see the hash rate drop all right we were at like 43. 44 now we're going to 42 and 42.8 and it's continuing to go lower 42.67 so like do you guys think that this card is lhred like further on ravencoin is it just me or am i going crazy because i don't know from from what i've been seeing out there i've been seeing that this card is supposed to get about 50 to like 56 mega hash mining ravencoin on a 3080 ti so has no 3d figured out a lhr version like number five or something like just i don't know what's going on this is really weird we're getting limited on mining raven coin on this gpu so we weren't getting limited it seems on ergo you guys saw that earlier right on ergo and then of course on ethereum we were getting limited but i wasn't able to achieve the you know the 80 plus mega hash and i was actually reading online there's other people here that tested the uh the i chill x3 right here okay the inno 3d rtx 3080 i chill x4 actually not the x3 x4 but the same brand no 3d and you can see here that they were only able to achieve about 58 mega hash and uh doing the dash lhr 68 okay and actually if we scroll down they say at the end here they say here note that your results may vary depending on their gpu model overclocking settings and temperatures i mean i've said that before and our case our rtx 3080ti should be getting 82 mega hash but our base hash rate was only around 42 which then improved to 62 after the lhr 68 update so you see that they talk about even 82 mega hash but their inno 3d was only able to get up to about 62 and then i was able to only get it to about 73 max and it was always fluctuating between you know 68 69 to 73. So i think this inno 3d brand they figured out how to like limit ravencoin on this gpu on the 3080 ti i want to know what you guys think let me know if any of you have this no3d model specifically and maybe like another chinese brand perhaps like a gain word card that maybe those also have the lhr maybe just like a further revision of the light hash rate lock on these cards for different algorithms now maybe it's not just ethereum now it's ravencore am i just going crazy i want to know what you guys think down below please post your results of you know what brand gpu you have what overclock settings you guys use power limits memory core clock fan speed what have you but the most important thing is to also put down the model which you guys have a 3080 ti and please let me know what results you guys can get let's say on ethereum ravencoin as well and ergo so that you know other people can see this as well if people are watching this and reading the comments it should help those that are maybe wanting to buy these gpus so would i buy this ino 3d i chill x3 3080ti no at this point no because it looks like in my experience limited on mining ravencoin so actually if i just go back to like 100 memory and gonna hit plus there we should theoretically then see the hash rate start to rise okay so yeah like we're getting limited here and also the memory controller went back up to a hundred all right it was uh it was uh at 80 something 88 87 before you guys can see here but now i just changed it and now the mega hash is going back up alright so tell me are we not limited or lhred on this 3080 ti on ravencoin very strange very strange anyways i just want to end off with profitability here i have the raven coin auto lycos and ethereum entered in here in terms of the hash rate that i can achieve on this 3080 ti i'm gonna hit calculate there and we're gonna go down and it says ergo is the most profitable on this and no 3d 3080 ti and then ethereum is the next one at uh looks like 40 cents 30 cents less than ergo and then ravencoin is a little bit further down at about another dollar less it seems okay anyways guys let me know your thoughts about this no3d 3080 ti and if you guys have seen similar results that i have and i know there are many varying 3080 ti results out there but yeah i've been testing this card for a very long time now and i've tried many different things to make sure that i'm like doing this right and correct and i'm not going crazy it feels like i'm going crazy let me know what you guys think down below i appreciate you all let me know your thoughts i'll see you guys in the next video have a good one and peace out Read the full article
