🕯On All Hallows’ Eve when the moon is round, a virgin will summon us from under the ground… 🕯

Hello Salem! This year for Halloween I wanted to get a Hocus Pocus painting done to celebrate the sequel premiering and the 29th anniversary of the original film. The basis for this piece was a series of sketches I did in 2018 which you can view in a saved story on my page! The sisters mostly stayed the same but I updated a few details since four years is a long time and my design style changed has slightly. In 2018 I was imagining what the sisters would wear if they had new outfits made in purgatory, so this is a continuation of that idea.

🕷 Sarah’s design is pretty straightforward. I was inspired by Mary E Vogt’s original concept which featured layers of silk scraps and beads to create something really ethereal. Basically it’s her costume from the first film but totally ripped to shreds, a little more revealing and sexy.

📖 Winnie’s dress is influenced by her Queen Elizabeth I hairstyle. I gave her an Elizabethan silhouette complete with collar, but of course kept her long “wizard sleeves.” My favorite detail of Mary Vogt’s original design is Winnie’s red petticoat, so I made her base skirt entirely red. The red color actually ties all three sisters together, since each features red somewhere in their design.

🧪 Mary’s design was the biggest departure from my original 2018 sketch. In the years since, she has become my favorite sister so I wanted to give her a dress that was really gorgeous. As @theaustinjayshow has pointed out, no design series from me would be complete without a tiered skirt, with either pointed or rounded petals, so that’s how Mary manifested this time. Each of the scarves reflects the patterned fabric of her original costume.

I'd say... a solid 7? I usually edit a bit as I go, simply because I might come up with something that impacts a situation that happened earlier and I need to go back and change that while I remember it. I also edit once I'm done to try and catch any left behind half-finished sentences. It's good, it meeds to be done, but sometimes I feel like I need to know when to stop before I veer off and edit things into oblivion.

Run, don't walk, SPRINT LIKE USAIN BOLT TO THIS SERIES. Had me from the first sentence of the first part until the very last sentence of the second part, at which point I had cried more times than I care to admit. Gorgeous prose, continuously makes you sit back and have an existential crisis. 10/10 would be destroyed again.

AYCF: Chapter 15's first draft is roughly 75 % done, and I started outlining Chapter 16. Thank you all for voting so far in the poll of how the Chapter is going to end ~ also, Chapter 15 got a bit angstier than intended, not including the ending, so I low-key kind of hope the non angst option wins. 😅 Chapter 16 will be much lighter though ~

Secret Thoughts on Parchment: Still working on some of the journal entries, but I am up to where Cecilia comes in.

(I finally learned how to open asks and such, and I'm enjoying it a lot! And to be honest, the reason I started posting here, was because I had ideas for platonic yans that I never saw others do, or if they were done, were romantically inclined, and I don't do romance. 🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would take you?

The hardest fic on my page that I've written was as we circle the moon because like !!!!!! I signed up to write it for the Femsheith exchange and then like, my grandma was sick and I was doing a lot of family shit and didn't have a ton of time to work on it, and originally I wanted it to be a one shot but I felt bad that I was gonna miss the posting deadline so I split it into chapters and at least posted a chapter, and then my grandma died, and then like, no one really responded to that fic so I was having a really hard time working on it.

I'll preach till I'm blue in the face that like, we have to be able to write for US because relying on external validation is such a motivation killer, but like, I was just not feeling myself and had no inspiration to write for me, and then like, usually for my Sheith fics I have a cheerleader who can read my WIP and encourage me when I think I'm being boring but my go-to Sheith cheerleaders don't like Femsheith so I had no one to help me with this, and then like, it got two comments so I just felt like it wasn't a good fic and no one liked it, and so I didn't feel motivated to update it for the readers either, and the fact that no one responded to it made me think it was poorly written and didn't make sense, and then I was convinced that all my ideas for it were stupid and didn't make sense, and I thought the gender studying in it didn't make sense, and basically, it was torture trying to finish that one but I'm traumatized by my FFnet page when I was a teenager that had like 35 unfinished fics posted, so I refused to leave fics unfinished, and I forced myself to get it done.

Whew. LOL.

And anyway that's a lot of technical stuff but also since the fic is about grief and I was writing it during the death of a family member it got a little spicy on my feelings. LOL. And it's a fic that like, in the end, I'm not sure if the meta makes sense, but I was juggling a lot of messy feelings so I decided it's okay if the fic was also about messy feelings with no real conclusion.

🪄what is your post-writing/sharing aftercare? How do you take care of yourself or celebrate yourself when you've finished a fic?

hajslgd dsjakg so usually when I'm in the zone I write EVERY NIGHT (but I'm having an ADHD burnout crisis at the moment so I havent written in weeks lol RIP i hate myself) and like it's a thing where I feel bad if I take a night off? But whenever I finish a fic I like, allow myself a night off, and I just kinda chill out and daydream about the next thing I wanna write. It's so fun! It's so relaxing!!! :D Sometimes when I've spent months on a fic I like, feel empty and miss spending time with it, so it helps me to immediately jump to the next project and start daydreaming about a new idea so that I can stay excited.

This sunday is the 3rd Advent 🕯🎄 and I am working on something special.

Everyone knows this famous potrait right? And well, this is your clue! No it's not about Héctor and Imelda this time (🤭 as much as I love drawing those cutesies, there are 2 babes I love just as much 🥺 my besties know!) It's going to be something that happened at the very same time/day. If you look at the charro suit Héctor is wearing here, you see it is a creamy white one. Not the rusty pink one he wore on tour.

Now, if you're reading my book, you might remember that small convo Ernesto and Ceci had after he'd asked her for help with his iconic white and silver charro suit. Ceci instantly knows he is referrencing to a white charro he'd worn before! So 😗

And oh! Since I haven't done an UPDATE post in FOREVER! I am just throwing that in here as well!

I am working on a few chapters! Meaning I am jumping back and forth because my brain keeps storming me and I am like "ey, that's chapter 10, hold on, that's chapter 15! 17 ... oookay back to chapter 10. 11! Oh and now 12!"

And I am proud to say, Ernestos whole past will be broken down into a seperate book part "so to say" meaning it will be a Part 1 and Part 2 and each part will be more than just 1 chapter. The chapters however will not start with 1, 2, 3, they will continue normally. I tell you, piecing his past together was an emotional rollercoaster and a journey that isn't quite done yet!

And while I LOVED Héctor from second 1. I gratually fell in love with Ernesto too. I am dang proud of myself and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for everyone who's been loving my book so far!

Oh yeah and of course there will be a multiple part backstory thing for Héctor too! 😙 duh!

🕯️ ⇢ on a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy editing? why is that?

I LOVE editing. (Sometimes. Most of the time.) 10/10.

Editing and revising (I consider them one-in-the-same) is the time for me to take my writing from "shitty first draft" to "piece I'm proud of."

However, I am very critical of my writing. I go through at least three stages of editing for a single chapter (and it's usually more in the 5-stage range). Sometimes, when I'm editing, I want to give up on whatever I'm writing. I feel like an imposter; I feel like my writing is terrible; I feel like it's not even worth it because reading my first draft makes me cringe.

But then I remember this quote by William Matthews: "Revision isn't cleaning up after the party, revision is the party."

I love editing/revising because I get to see my writing improve within a chapter. I get to take my initial idea and expand on it. Develop it. Insert some magic and bring the story to life. I can't do that when I'm just word vomiting in my first draft.

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

I'm afraid I'm going to be quite dull: I have no idea. I can't even remember the last thing I researched for a writing project 😅 Honestly, I usually "research" Star Wars galactic maps because I never remember where any of the planets are located.

I have done some "research" about dragons across different cultures to inspire some of the myths in my WIP I Yearn, and so I Fear. But I doubt that constitutes as weird haha.

It dropped 18 inches of snow last week and now I have a handful of videos of my puppy bouncing through the snow. They make me so happy.

My sister will be visiting me from college in two weeks and I'm excited to hang out with her! It's been a few months since I last saw her.

I commissioned an artwork for my fanfic and the artist has been the loveliest. I've been adoring the progress updates she's sent me and the artwork is nearing completion, so I'm stoked to share it with people on here!

~20/10/2021~ Today started off very slowly and not so good - physically wasn't on good form - had an extreme fatigue and dizziness episode while I was waiting for meds to kick in - was worrying that I might not be up to work. Not sure what my body is doing - feels like it can't decide if it's unwell - had a borderline temp in the morning but it quickly went back down. Had major itchy skin issues so looks like it's an MCAS flare up 🤒🤦‍♀️ Thankfully I improved by midday, but was slow getting up and going, so ended up having to work solidly from 10:30 am - 6:30 pm 😮 It was a heavier day in terms of scheduled meetings and appointments - had team meeting, a first appointment with someone, a project meeting, and a peer support appointment late afternoon. But all were pretty good, and managed to get most of what I needed to get done ticked off, which is pretty good going given how I was this morning ✅😊 Got an ocado delivery - the delivery guy was rather jolly - either high on drugs or high on life (hopefully the latter) - he was singing musical theatre songs in the street 😮🙈 Had dinner. Went for a walk in the dark and pouring rain 🌧👣 W came in the evening - we had a good chat - feeling much more alive and awake this evening, though as usual not the best timing in the world with an early start tomorrow!
