I love how Barney and Robin are together because of Ted and Tracy (Ted made them meet, Tracy basically convinced them to get married), while Ted and Tracy are together because of Barney and Robin (met at their wedding)

if I don’t like the ending of a show I’ll convince myself something else happened.
How I Met Your Mother? Ted and Tracy raised their children happily and retired together sitting on a porch with Marshall and Lily. Robin and Barney are still married and travelling the world together. (They did, however, adopt a daughter as Barney still needs to learn the lesson he learned when he had one.)
Veronica Mars? Logan and Veronica are happily married and they had fun on their honeymoon.
B99? No one quit. They all still work there.
Idc about “what makes sense” or “what’s more interesting” or “character growth”. Different doesn’t mean better.

Shouldn't we hold out for the person who doesn't just tolerate our little quirks but actually kind of likes them?

life lessons from himym
"time will heal a broken heart, but not that bitch's window" 💋
nothing good ever happens after 2 am
don't chase after what doesn't work, let the universe take over
things happen for a reason
don’t ever give up crazy times with your friends
miracles happen
things you may not have liked before may not be that bad later on
perfect isn't always perfect
some people have expiration dates
wait for it
don’t postpone joy
the important moments shouldn't be wasted, because you can't get them back
be clear about the things you say
the most important people in your life are the ones you can picture sitting on the porch with
the talk is one of the worst things ever, but it is important
you're not looking for someone who accepts your quirks, you're looking for someone who loves them, cherishes them, and loves you more as a person because of them
some people are worth a lot of work to keep around
get out of the house, go for a walk, get a bagel
sometimes, all you need is a nap
you need to accept when to move on
ask for help

My favorite sitcom dynamic is when the main group of friends are seen by everyone else as the most selfish people in the universe. Or at least when everyone in the group is a horrible or questionable person, bonus points if they don't realize it.

the six types of friends within found family tropes (according to me)
I came up with this in bed at 2 am... enjoy(?)
the gay one
the “I know this plan is gonna turn out bad but i’m still gonna go through with it”
the “if i don’t have a sip of alcohol in five minutes i’m gonna kill myself”
the “i swear guys THEY'RE the one...”
the “i have underlying mommy/daddy issues and i need to see someone about it”
the “how can i scam my way out of this”
(these can overlap)

It's been like twelve years since I binged all of How I Met Your Mother, and most of the show has like left my brain… but every time I remember the show it feels less like a sitcom and more like psychological horror. A friend deliberately stabs another friend with a sword in a display of toxic masculinity. Barney never says what he does for a living but alludes to it being horrible. There's that guy screaming about all songs needing to be uppers while people cower in the corner of a limo, except fucking 'don't ask about my job' Barney looking gleefully at the terrifying man and agreeing. Fuck Friends secretly being horror, I think HIMYM might actually be the TRUE horror show.
