i always think crazy hard about cutie marks they are like my #1 stressor when it comes to ponies……. so here’s why i chose certain cutie mark designs !!

also i tried really hard to make sure they all shared some colours , especially making sure to include each others’ colours !! i wanted to have the original masked circle all have a star somewhere (BC.astrology or something…) LOL , maya sort of stands out both in colours and cutie mark , but that was on purpose !!

tatsuya: his was 100% the easiest to come up with . it’s gotta be his lighter !!! not only is it like His Thing but also very much representative of the bonds with his friends , as well as everything that got them into the events of IS … both in the game and here , the lighter is a symbol of both destruction/power and connection/creation !! which really fits tatsuya :] you can also think of it being like he “lights the way” !! the little teal star is in lieu of the little prince quote , and it’s kinda clear who this star is meant to represent ;U

jun: THIS ONE TOOK FOREVER TO DRAW . my issue was i had an idea , but couldn’t figure out how to make it work !! i wanted to include both flowers and a shooting star and fought 1 million battles trying to figure it out….

i wanted to include a shooting star for many reasons !! stars obviously for jun’s love of stars , but also because the shooting star is a symbol of something to follow (like Jun making himself a leader/savior as joker) as well as being representative of wishes and dreams (which is joker’s whole thing !!) !!! i wanted to add 4 forget-me-nots for both the obvious meaning of memory and his love of flowers , but also to mimic other stars and represent both masked circles he was involved in ! i love jun if you can’t tell

lisa: though this one looks simple it actually was pretty thought-out !! i wanted to figure out a way to both have her love of kung fu and role as an idol represented , which led me to these sort of boom-flash symbols ! these symbols are meant to be representative of her personality (feisty and explosive, but also fascinating and even lovely !) as well as what i said earlier , both of her paths~ they can be read as punch SFX , as well as the flash of cameras/lights on stage !! they’re pretty simple , but i feel like they pack a lot of punch (LOL)~!!

maya: the standout girlie of the whole bunch !! i immediately had the sort of idea for an intersection of heart/moon , and came up with this ! the heart is for ahh.. reasons most people know , but also she’s just associated with hearts in general (think mr bunbun) !! they obviously are related to her compassion and big heart , and if we want to have a sort of more darker and serious inspection of it.. how she’s the heart of her friend group and the loss of that heart (literal and figurative , in many instances) makes everything fall apart .. i also wanted to include the moon for her association with the moon (and Artemis !) , which also serve to show her duality and antithesis to the heat and light of the tatsuyas ! i like to think the EP cast’s colours would be more based around her cutie mark colours , like how IS were all based around each others’ !!

eikichi: i struggled with this one the most & i think it’s obvious.. U~U; .. i wanted to , again , make a symbol that’s not too complex , but is able to encapsulate so many different elements of a character ?! i ended up coming up with this skull (for his association with death/self proclaimed title as the “death boss”) and rocker/vkei/darker alternative aesthetics in general~ the starry eyes are BC welll…! star ! and also because it’s like he’s “starry-eyed” and looking towards the future :] the little glowy shine thing is meant tp be a spotlight , like he’s in the spotlight ! maybe one day I’ll come up with soemthing better , sorry eikichi , i love you ! 😞💦

The moon was high and a cold wind blew through the lonely streets of the city; the noise of the crickets and the soft sound of the leaves moving on the trees were all that could be heard. Despite the calm atmosphere, Michael Goatherd was grumbling as he walked; he would occasionally kick a stone or a can to release some of his frustration. He had had a horrible day: a college classmate had insulted him regarding his sexuality, a police officer had searched him for no reason "suspecting" that he might be carrying illicit substances, and other people who mistook him for a criminal.

"Darn it!" he thought kicking the rock harder, and he's ended up crashing into his car, leaving a slight dent. "Shit". He was a bit frustrated and wanted to get even, maybe a little practical prank would suffice.

He walked over to his beige car, got into it and drove to his house. From time to time he heard a screeching sound, as if a rough material was moving, but when he turned to see, there was nothing strange. After a few minutes he arrived at his house; He didn't have a garage, so he parked outside, turned off the car and took out the key. Then, He quickly glanced up and seemed to see a green glow, which he instantly ignored.

"Wait…" he looked up and noticed a strange object. An enormous substance shaped and textured like a mask seen from behind with outstretched tendrils clinging to the ceiling was directly above his head.

"What the fuck.." he whispered and *smack* the mask mercilessly launched itself at his face, causing immense pain, and extended its tendrils to cover his head.

Michael was shaking and screaming nonstop; it was too painful an experience for him. The car was emitting a flickering green glow and the mask seemed to have more control of Michael's body than Michael himself had.

In a few minutes, a tornado formed inside the car that shot towards the house, destroying and shaking all the utensils and furniture until it reached the room, when it stopped, revealing a young man with a green face and a somewhat wicked smile.

"Bloody brilliant!!" he yelled excitedly heading to a closer mirror. "It's time for this cutie to commit some mischief" he exclaimed smiling and was thrown through the wall, breaking it in the process.

He took out of his pockets a jumper, a pot of green paint and a huge brush and, jumping on the jumper, he painted the houses. He then created a bazooka from the canister and threw it endlessly at the cars on the street.

"I do feel sorry for whoever has to clean up this mess" he said before making a funny face. "What am I saying?! Of course not!!" he added before shooting again.

Masked Michael was dancing on top of a car in a deplorable state while shooting uncontrollably. The building gave off an intense yellowish and reddish flame. Noticing the sound of sirens, he feigns desperation.

"Oh holy universe, they already caught me!" he looks at the sides of him. A spotlight goes on above his head. "I got it!!". From his pocket he pulls out a small button marked Delete.

He squeezes it, and a pink eraser runs through the entire image. Now, the scenario was different: the street was clean, the building was impeccable; even if there were any casualties not mentioned, they were healed or revived in an immense stupor, but who would not be stunned after returning from the dead? Unless it's an everyday thing.

"Great, the one who ended up cleaning was me… I'm so clean!!!" He congratulates himself.

Officers' cars pull up to the scene, and as they exit they are surprised to see everything clean and new. The police chief, surnamed Canary, a man in his forties, gets out of the car he was driving, taking out his gun. He looks at everything, turning his blue gaze, until he meets the man with the green face and blood eyes, with a strange dress that implied the most childish innocence.

"Hello officer, what's going on?" asks the man in green who was wearing a white shirt with a sun in the center, a hat with a propeller, dark blue shorts and light blue shoes.

"Nothing" The officer was surprised at this character's attitude "Haven't you heard about a chaotic situation around this area?"

"Not really, although the only chaotic thing here is your existence" he joked.

"This is weird, I got an emergency call just a few minutes ago…"

"Maybe it was a prank call" he answered quickly. He wanted to burst out laughing, but he controlled himself.

"Okay, if anything weird happens let us know, okay?"

"Understood, cop."

The chief Canary began to walk back to the car with his colleagues and subordinates.

"How stupid..." Masked Michael whispers.

"Said something?" the chief turned confused.

"No, nothing" he answered quickly.

Canary keeps walking until he turns around, but as he takes another step, all the policemen, about ten in all, trip and fall. It turns out that Michael tied the laces of his shoes. He gives himself away laughing at the result of his prank.

"You'll see" threatened the boss getting up. He took another step when he fell again and crawled on the ground. Standing up for the third time, he had no belt and his pants fell off, revealing his cyan hamster-print boxers, making him the laughing stock of his official peers. "You'll see when I catch you…".

"I can already see, Mr. Canary, although thinking about it, you are only a bird as a name, rather you are homo idiotus... For that reason, I will make all of you real birds!". Michael ended the joke of him pouring glue on the policemen and later feathers, making them look like a bunch of anthropomorphic chickens.

He recorded a video and anonymously uploaded it to the internet.

"Enjoy your prestige, chickens" his face took the shape of a chicken and imitated the sound of this animal to taunt them, and he went to his house. "What a rewarding experience, I hope to have fun like this again..." he said going to sleep.

This is such a fun and cute question- we've been enjoying these a lot. I personally think I'd be a pegasus and my cutie mark would be a golden heart with purple headphones on it, 💋 would be a unicorn and his cutiemark would be a tube of lipstick with a spider web design on it, 🎮 is an earth Pony and his cutie mark would be a NES controller probably, and 🎵 would be a Unicorn and her cutie mark would be a spotlight with stars. Chapter 3: Settling In And Soaring High

At Ramone’s Fashion and Paint Shop

“Alright they’re ready!” Sally shouted from the dressing room.

She had just finished helping the girls get dressed in their new clothes that Ramone had made for them. After him and the others had gotten a chance to get to know the girls and decided to make something that best fits the crusaders’ personalities.

“Well then.. What are you waiting for let’s see them.” Lightning shouted back into the closed curtains.

Seconds later Applebloom stepped out first. Wearing a sleeveless blue plaid shirt, blue jean shorts, and brown faux leather material stitched design casual knee high cowboy boots, and a M&F western twister wool cowboy hat. Good thing her mother’s ribbon hadn’t fallen off when they entered this world so Sally had tied it into a tails down bow.

“What da ya’ll think?”

Applebloom did a pose with her hand on her hip while the other holding up her hat.

“You look ok.”

Sarge gave a small shrug, while everyone else applauded her.

“Thanks ya’ll!”

She stepped off to the side giving Sweetie Belle her time in the spotlight she stepped out the dressing room. Wearing a white sleeveless mini dress with a lime green bow, light purple leggings, light purple zip side wedge boots, and a lime green glitter headband.

“How do I look?”

Sweetie Belle shyly gave a small pose holding her hands behind her back.

“You look fabulous.”

Ramone and the others applauded her and Sweetie Belle smiled moving next to Applebloom,

“Alright Scootaloo you're up! Let's see what you got!”

Lightning shouts into the dressing room and Scootaloo steps out. She's wearing an orange sleeveless T-shirt that Ramona had also cut holes in the backs for Scootaloo’s wings, a mid wash contrast jersey sleeve denim jacket to hide her wings, blue jeans, converse black classic high top sneakers, and a grey slouchy beanie.

“Well. What do ya say?”

Scootaloo gives a pose her fist up in the air and her other on her hip.

“You look awesome Scootaloo.”

Lightning and the others applauded them as they show of their new looks one more time.

All that left is to decide who the girls will be staying. It took a while but Doc had decided that the girls should stay with him the first night just to get settled in. Then Applebloom will be staying with Sarge, much to his dislike, Sweetie Belle with Ramone, and Scootaloo with Lightning. So far everything looked all good, they’ve taken care of everything that needed to be done...That is...until Scootaloo asked one little question that caught everyone off guard.

“So..This is all cool and stuff. But when can I get started on my flying practice?”

Scootaloo was sitting at a table inside Flo’s V8 Cafe giving Lightning and Doc a bored look. At a loss for words they haven't even given the thought that a pegasus would not want to be stuck on the ground all day.

“Well..Scootaloo ya see we have a lot of people that visit own town quite often. And we don’t think it’s a good idea for you to be flying around. The wrong person might see you.”

Doc and the others have already explained to them what might happen if more people find out that they’re magical, talking, multi-colored ponies from an alternate world. And the thought of being taken off to some lab and experimented on...didn’t sound to fun in the girl's mind. But still Scootaloo didn't like the thought of being grounded during their entire stay here, especially for who knows how long they’ll even be here. And Scootaloo needed to practice her flying or else she’ll go stir crazy. Everyone paused to think for a moment...suddenly an idea popped into Lightning’s head.

“I got the an idea! What if Scoots goes flying at night around Willy’s Butte. It’s the perfect place and no one else will be able to see her because it’s so dark. And if they do they’ll think she’s a bird flying around. And I’ll be there to keep an eye on her to make sure nothing bad happens.”

Doc put a hand to his chin in thought.

His plan sounds possible, the fact no one will be able to she her, and Lightning standing guard keeping watch. It seems like the a pretty solid plan.

Doc was instantly snapped out of his thoughts when he found Scootaloo kneeling down in front of him, hands out front in a begging manner, and giving him the biggest puppy dog eyes imaginable. Unable to resist the sheer cuteness of it all smiled

“Sounds like the perfect plan…”

Doc was stopped mid sentence when Scootaloo jumped in his arms giving him a great big hug.

“Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!"

. . .

The sun set and the moon's now high in the sky. An excited Scootaloo cannot wait to get out, stretch her wings and finally teach herself how to fly.

“ Come on come on hurry up! I wanna get all the time I can flying!”

“Alright alright. Just let me get my jacket.”

Lightning grabbed his jacket from the bed and slipped it on, locked his door and the two head off to Willy’s Butte.

It’s been three hours already and Scootaloo still could not get herself off the ground. Lightning had automatically assumed that she already knew how to fly...Boy was he wrong. For the past three hours Scootaloo had done nothing but fall flat on her face..quite literally. Covered in cuts and bruises Scootaloo was stomping the ground, kicking dirt and rocks everywhere, pretty much throwing a tantrum right there in front of him. Then she plopped down next to a rock pulled her legs up close and started crying.

That’s it!

Lightning got up from his spot and walked over to Scootaloo kneeling down in front of her

“ Hey there Scoots you ok?”

Sob Sob…

“Aw Come on Scoots you’re not giving up are you? I thought you wanted to fly? Do you really think you’ll achieve anything by giving up every time you get frustrated?”

“...”

“You can do it if you really try.”

She looked up at him and he held out both hands

“Come on squirt. Give it another go.”

She took his hands and he lifted her up, wiping away her tears she put on a determined face and took a deep breath, opening up her wings at first getting nowhere.

“You got this Scoots! Don’t give up!”

Scootaloo looks back at him for a second she could of swore she saw Rainbow Dash standing right there turning back looking up at the sky.

This is what I want. I can’t give up,opening up her wings.

I won’t give up.flapping hard.

I won’t give in, floating off the ground.

I won’t back down, closing her eyes.

Not now. Not when I’m so close. I can’t stop. I won’t stop. I can do this. I believe in myself. I have faith in myself. I trust in myself. I trust in my heart. I’ve got the power. This is it. This is my goal. This is my dream. Everything I’ve worked so hard for. Is all for this.

Scootaloo slowly opened her eyes, looking down at Lightning she was at least 30 feet high in the sky.

“YAY! ALRIGHT SCOOTALOO YA DID IT!!!”

Lightning shouted high in the sky cheering on Scootaloo eyes widen beaming with pride Scootaloo exploded

“AWWWW YEAAAAH!!!”

shooting through the sky, and soaring up higher. Feeling that she’s finally broken free from her cage. Spreading her wings out wide and soaring, finally flying.

I’ve done it. I’ve finally done it. Lightning if it wasn’t for you I would have given up..

As much as you find the certain white haired but quiet ball of sunshine, there was one thing that sometimes bothered you. It wasn't major— Inumaki was alright as he is now. If not, perfect you would say. The only thing you don't comprehend is that he kept wearing that long sleeved, collar that reached his mouth. Even you find your annoying teacher was wearing the same thing as your boyfriend after yelling hysterically how he's found his long lost twin while poor Inumaki was dragged out of the blue.

You get it's for hiding the tattoos on the corners of his lips. Maybe there was more to it, but Inumaki wrote it on a paper; a way of communicating, that it wasn't at all that sacred or anything to hide. He just grew fond of hiding his mouth for a long period of time. Though he admits it does kind of make him insecure of the times people saw him in person while walking down the streets with a normal attire. All you could ever have in order to read his emotions were his eyes. There were moments you'd catch a peek of his full features during missions. But it hasn't even reached a minute or so he's already hidden himself like a turtle.

Staring longer at him while laying down on bed bored, it dawned to you how you've never caught on what he'd look like if he smiles underneath that suit he wore. This made you tempted to zip down the little zipper in display, but you know better than to pry in his comfort zone. But oh, can you imagine, just a cute kitten like smile. Or even a pout when he's clinging onto your waist during mornings for more over time cuddles. You needed to see that.

"Hey, Toge."

Fingers tugging down the hem of his suit, Inumaki's attention drifts off of his phone from what Yuta was sending and peered at you, "Shake?" he starts, fiddling with your fingers with his. He does this a lot even in public, so intrigued at how much it has an affect to make his insides all giddy and warm from the playful gesture.

"Can I please see you?"

He snorts a little as he types something on his phone. Lucky you, yours happened to be right next to you. The screen lightening, pinging a notification coming from him,

You already are, you dummy.

Inumaki chuckles a bit when he earned himself a pout and a huff from you. Pinching your cheeks gently in a way of saying sorry and waits for you to explain, "I mean, I want to see you. You know," widening your palm a bit, facing it near your own mouth and began waving up and down at him. "Without the thingy in the way."

He messages again,

Thingy? Really? Aren't you cute.

Sitting up from your position, you waddled closer to his body. Inumaki shifts himself to sit comfortably at the edge of the bed for you to settle yourself on his lap. His hands roamed for a good seconds behind your back, occasionally trying to be sneaky once he's reached a bit lower, but settles nonetheless on your hips.

"I wanna see you smile." while playing with the dangling zipper, "I've never really seen you take this off whenever we're together. Don't get me wrong! It's not ugly! I just, you know."

It startled you when he coos quietly. Squinting his eyes and booping your nose softly. If you weren't mistaken, did he just wiggled himself? He resumes to typing once again something quickly and flashes his screen towards you.

You're just precious.

But I'm not gonna do it.

Kind of bummed from what he said. Then again worried you may have been pushing him on, but then you see his index scroll up from his notepad to reveal the other, large bolded text underneath his last reply,

You do it for me.

"Are you sure? I don't mean to sound pushy."

He types again,

You're not. It's nice to hear that someone can't resist my charms.

Gasping dramatically, you slapped his chest with the back of your hand softly. His shoulders jolting from stifled laughter before grabbing your wrist up to the zipper. It was stupid to have your breath held in. What can you say, it was anticipating really. Giving you a firm nod that it was very much okay for him, you slowly zipped down the collar to unravel half of his face. Your smile was wobbly from failing to hide the embarrassment, more now because he kept arching his brows as if he was teasing you.

When it came to a stop at his chest, your hand automatically reaches out for his jaw. Thumb tracing over the swirly marks now that it was up close and woah, do you want to know if he uses some kind of lip balm or lip gloss. They were so pretty! Probably near as the blubbering blindfolded male.

If you could only see yourself so dazed at him, like any other guy, the corners of his lips rose a tiny bit from all the attention he was gaining from you. He could feel his naked soul burn from the sparkles of admiration through your eyes as you stared at him agape, "You're really handsome."

And like any other guy, to be called handsome hasn't occurred in his book until now. Of course, it's a bit more different if someone you love says it, right? Suddenly feeling quite hot underneath your gaze and comment, his fingers threaded through his bangs to push away from his sweaty forehead. Looking away when he feels the blood in his face circulate to paint his cheeks.

No different than he is, you quickly slapped a palm on your mouth, "I-I mean, you're always handsome! It's just, wow." unable to keep your eyes out of his face, so close you could count the lashes on his eyes, "You're wow. Like, wow. You're with me?"

Couldn't you stop already? It's not often he gets someone praising him. It's always Maki and Yuta that gets the spotlight, occasionally Panda if he's down in the dumps. But couldn't you tell by the way he's suddenly the one who's nervous because of you? It felt too good to hear, he had to gulp down the butterflies that were prying his lips into a large grin. Boy, does he want to hide himself as he lowered his hand from holding his bangs up to cup his mouth. Upon witnessing that, you shake your head with a smile,

"No, don't cover your smile." pinning his hand down, planted on his sides as you leaned closer, "I love your smile."

Nothing but pure sincerity came out from you. What choice does he have to deny you when the reason why he can't even contain himself from smiling was because of you? Shyly tapping on his revealed chest random patterns and scanning each part your eyes could reach, he takes advantage of the closeness you two shared just by the lips. Squeaking between the kisses, his arms circles to your middle to pull you in deeper, your hands acting as a support that held onto his shoulders. Unlike the quick pecks that go by in a flash, he savors this one the most knowing he's got nothing to hide from anything or anyone. No one would've guessed he'd kiss as if it was full of raw, hungry emotions.

Even when you pull away to breathe, he still sneaks more littered kisses on your lips until he was satisfied witha goofy smile on his flushed face. Fumbling to grab his phone open for the prepared text he's put in earlier and pushing it between your faces, "Oh, sorry. You were so cute I had to kiss you."

"You planned this from the start didn't you, you jerk." scoffing playfully to mask your own lovey dovey state from floating to the clouds. He shows you another text briefly before throwing his phone out of the way, resuming back to business in a more intimate position feeling himself become in much need.

NCT Male OC (Ace) Drabble #1

Just though I'd drop by to write about a scenario that been heavy on my mind recently.

So, an NCT OC, whose stage name is Ace.

Hear me out.

Ace is an added member, and has been with the group since the debut of NCT 127. He's basically Mark 2.0 in the sense that he's in all the subunits, but that's really the only similarity.

He is that type of natural cute. Doesn't do aegyo often. Well, that's not really true. He's often cornered by the other members (in a nonaggressive and loving way, of course), to act cute, but his interpretation of "aegyo" is a little more tame than the standard. Like, he'll scrunch up his nose, fidget with fingers, and even use a higher pitched voice (all aegyo staples) but in a barely noticeable, hardly trying way, because honestly, it's not something he's invested in. He does it mainly to humor those around him.

Which leads us to another point, he never does anything exciting out of his own desire to do so. Ace has a very relaxed personality. He's the definition of endearing introvert and would just be sitting quietly in a corner for most of his life if it weren't for the other members constantly pushing him forward and putting him in the spotlight.

Another thing about him; he NEVER gets angry. Like never. But that isn't as frustrating as how hard it is to get him to give a genuine laugh. It not something he does naturally, but the poor boy has been exposed to so much at such a young that he's become desensitized to pretty much everything. Need some emotional support during a horror move -- he's your guy; and for most of the NCT guys he already is.

As for the laughing thing, after it was noted a couple of times, he really did make an effort to laugh more in front of the camera, if only to appease and reassure the fans (cutie). Here's the thing though, he's a smiler NOT a laugher. If he finds something amusing or funny he'll smile widely (btw HE HAS DIMPLES). Rarely does he laugh, and even when he makes a conscious effort to laugh, he ends up forgetting about it and will stop his little giggles ten minutes into the episodes. Fans and members have accepted this long ago, and its nothing more than just another endearing quirk. However, the members still like to poke fun at our little non-laugher by making a competition out of who would be able to get a chuckle or giggle from him. Jungwoo was the latest winner, his legendary spelling of BBQ managing to draw out a stifled laugh from Ace; something Jungwoo has taken great pride in and makes sure to bring up often, despite the fact that nearly all the other members had also collapsed, clutching their stomach and weeping with unbridled joy because of his little joke -- though that reaction seems insignificant in comparison to Ace's barely audible "haha." At least in Jungwoo's mind.

I guess that it for drabble 1 for my (NCT Oc). Maybe the next one will be less of idea vomit and a more structured telling of his background...we'll see.

majorly impacted by his kids. protective and the mediator of his kids. he will love being a dad. jinyoung’s kids will always look up to him, they will know their dad is very wise and fair. they will respect him a lot.

is this a surprise??? i mean come on..... we’ve all seen it. jackson will definitely be 100% involved and be very tending to his kids. very nurturing. definitely the type of dad to bawl when he sends his kids to kindergarten. will take elementary graduation very seriously. 😂

🔮 youngjae: the star.

another forever impact type thing with this cutie. this will forever change his life. it will be like younjae opened the door and there was the light; his baby crying when they come into the world. it’s like an event where youngjae didn’t know he needed to experience until it happened. being a father will open up a new world to him, and he will embrace the father role with open arms. this was so cute and fitting to write and think about.

bambam will be the type of dad to celebrate ANYTHING his kids do. ultimate hype dad. very supportive of his kids! this card also points to large families, gatherings, etc. you pick up what i’m putting down? 🤨

Animation Night 62: early Yoshinori Kanada

Hello friends! It’s that time of the week.

This week it’s time to go a little oldschool, shine our spotlight on someone who is widely hailed as the most influential Japanese animator in the whole history of our medium: Yoshinori Kanada! (Apologies anyone who wanted a weeb break. I’ll try and give you one next week.)

Kanada was born in 1953, and rose to prominence in the 70s as one of the first animators to get an individual reputation as a distinctive ‘charisma animator’, earning him magazine interviews and inspiring fans to seek out his cuts across different productions.

(For this post I’m going to be leaning heavily on the research of Matteo Watzky, who just concluded a long series on Kanada and his successors. Big thanks to that guy!)

But he didn’t come out of nowhere. One of his major influences is the work of A Pro, one of the first major offshoots of Toei Animation back in the 1960s led by Daikichirō Kusube and Yasuo Otsuka. In contrast to Toei, who at the time tended to emphasise realism on films like Horus: Prince of the Sun, Otsuka’s style emphasised energetic comedy, doing everything they could to overcome the restrictions of limited animation with secondary action, irregular rhythms and strong poses. Matteo writes:

it’s important to note that Kanada could be considered one of their students: it’s on (partly) A Pro shows like Akado Suzunosuke (1972-1974), Dokonjô Gaeru (1972-1974) and Kôya no Shônen Isamu (1973-1974) that he did some of his first in-betweening work, and even some key animation.

but he advised me on Twitter that Kanada didn’t actually work directly at A Pro, so my bad there!

Another major influence on Kanada can be traced to late 60s gekiga anime aimed at a slightly older audience like Star of the Giants, Ashita no Joe and Tiger Mask, whose animators started experimenting with photocopying drawings directly onto cels to create a much more rough, textured look, and layouts emphasising 3D motion and complex camerawork. Both would become a hallmark of Kanada’s style, and the recognition of their distinctive creators like Shingo Araki and Keiichirō Kimura helped lay the groundwork for the role of ‘charisma animator’.

So what of Kanada himself? He started, like pretty much all animators of the time, as an inbetweener (dougaman), drawing the final lineart and inbetweens prior to colouring. Apparently he despised this work, finding it tedious and repetitive, and part of the reason for his idiosyncratic timings when he became a key animator was to spare his inbetweeners the same fate.

Kanada’s early work was considered unremarkable and even unskilled by his peers like Takuo Noda, but he very rapidly rose to prominence around 1974, marked by his animation on a half-episode of Cutie Honey in which most of his stylistic flairs were present, at least in early form.

So what is this Kanada style, or Kanada school? It’s hard to describe a graphic style in words, but if you wanted to point to a few elements associated with Kanada...

extreme poses, designed more for drama than naturalistic motion

highly varied frame timings, combined with big changes of pose to create really sharp, snappy movements

impact frames and speed lines

elaborate background animation sequences where the camera flies along tunnels or corridors

shiny surfaces with complex specular highlight shapes

bright lens flares

complex fire effects with ropes and coils of flame (especially in the signature Kanada dragon, since homaged by of animators)

Of course, these didn’t appear as a package of course, but took time to develop. Kanada was not yet the star of the industry in 74 - that took a few more years, during which time Kanada worked at Toei, and then went to their major subcontractor No. 1 along with others in the aftermath of the strike, before finally founding his own studio Z2 with Shin’ya Sadamitsu and Kazuo Tomizawa in 1977. Z2 quickly gave way to Z3, and then that too folded Kanada returned to No. 1. Somewhere in this time, he did some of his definitive work on Galaxy Express 999, defining those ‘liquid fire’ explosions and creating all kinds of characterful mecha animation.

These years are notable mostly for the rapid evolution in the ‘Kanada school’ style. By this point this was not just one animator’s idiosyncratic style, but increasingly a movement of other ambitious young animators who’d been influenced by Kanada such as Masahito Yamashita, as they animated projects like Urusei Yatsura...

By the 80s, Kanada and a number of his proteges once again formed a studio of their own in the form of Kaname Pro, and it’s here that one of Kanada’s best known works, the Birth OVA, was made. Combining some absolutely astonishing animation with a chaotic, hard to understand sci-fi story about a girl on a hovering platform in a post-apocalyptic wasteland (notably very little of the writing on Birth bothers to say what it’s about!), it was very much an animator-first project... which means, however flawed, it should be a fascinating and unique artefact.

And...  I’m out of time! Very frustrating; there are a million more things to say about Kanada’s later career and the million people he influenced since (not just in anime: he was also one of the inspirations for the superflat art movement), but the hour is upon us, so let’s get on and watch some films. Tonight our main features are going to be Birth and Galaxy Express 999, which showcase some of Kanada’s best known animation. If we end up with a surplus of time, I might yet put in some other Kanada stuff, we’ll play it a bit by ear.

“Aviva-yah,” Yoongi called. Aviva looked up with her camera, only to be faced with Yoongi snapping a picture of her with his. He looked down at his camera and grinned. “Looks good.”

Aviva looked him over. “So do you. I really like the skirt.”

Yoongi did a little twirl. “Hip hop!”

“Ah… I’m so nervous, I’m stiff as a board,” Jin muttered.

“Want a massage, hyung?” Jungkook offered. Jin blinked at him.

“Seriously? Yeah, that would be great.” Jin sighed happily as Jungkook massaged his shoulders. Aviva walked over, getting a shot of them. “You’re good at this. How come you don’t do it more often?”

“Cause this is a special occasion,” Jungkook told him. “Don’t get used to it, hyung.”

“…I’ll pay you in food,” Jin offered.

“…I’ll consider it,” Jungkook said. Aviva laughed. They glanced at her.

“Yah, go away, camera-ninja,” Jin said.

The boys preformed Bulletproof Pt. 2, No More Dream, and Like to round it out. In-between changing their outfits, Aviva got a quick word with Yoongi and Hoseok.

“How’s it going out there?” She asked them. Yoongi and Hoseok looked at each other.

“Good~?” Hoseok said.

“Good~” Yoongi agreed. Namjoon stepped up behind them, putting his hands on their shoulders. Hoseok clutched his chest as Yoongi plastered on an overly surprised face.

“What’re you guys doing?” Namjoon asked.

“Talking about how great you guys are,” Aviva told him.

“Yah!” Namjoon flushed. “It’s time to get back on stage!” He pointed his finger in the air. “Let’s go!”

Afterwards, Aviva stood off to the side, watching the boys get interviewed about their first performances.

Yoongi spoke about how they were more authentic than other idol groups doing hip hop. Namjoon spoke about wanting to reach out to teenagers and get them to think about what their dreams were, and wanting to win a Best New Artist Award.

At the end of the night Aviva presented them with a custom-made cake. “Sorry I didn’t bake this one,” she said. “But I saw an ad for this bakery, and I thought it could be cool.”

“It is!” Jimin assured her. “Your cakes are probably the tastiest, but this one is very pretty.” Aviva clenched her fist.

“I’m going to improve my cake decorating skills.”

“Ah, that’s not what I…” Jimin smiled at her determined expression. “Okay, I can’t wait to see what you come up with—shall we eat?”

M!Countdown Debut! June 13th 2013

At their debut M!Countdown stage, Aviva was carrying around her camera again, to get behind the scenes footage.

Joonho and his assistants were working hard to mark sure every item of clothing was perfectly place. Jihye and Eunjung were chatting as they waited for their turn. However, Aviva could see that Eunjung had already gotten to Namjoon earlier this morning with an important addition to his hairstyle.

Aviva laughed, stretching her arm up and tracing the letters RM that had been shaved into the side of his head. “I haven’t seen this yet…”

“What? You don’t like it?” Namjoon said nervously.

“I’m not sure,” she admitted. “It’s just… I wonder what you’ll think about this style when you look back at it. Fashion is so changeable…”

“All the more reason to enjoy it now!” Hoseok said, popping up behind them, wrapping one arm around her shoulders and the other around Namjoon’s back.

“You would say that,” Aviva said, flicking the spiky mask.

He laughed. “You really like this thing, huh?” He struck a dramatic pose. “What I do for the sake of art!” She and Namjoon both laughed along with him.

Jungkook and Jimin walked over. Jimin spotted the camera and swerved slightly to sit on a nearby bench.

“I’m going to practice,” Namjoon said, turning towards the wall and taking a few deep breathes before launching into one of his verses. It was the quick one.

Hoseok mimicked him jokingly. Jungkook watched and then did the same. Hoseok laughed.

Namjoon frowned, pointing at Jungkook. “I hate this kid.”

“No, you don’t, Namjoon-ah,” Aviva said easily.

“If you’re gonna copy me, try and do it properly, at least,” he challenged. Hoseok shrugged. Jungkook tried. “Not similar!”

“He can’t do it so well when he’s under the spotlight like that,” Hoseok told Aviva.

“Well, Namjoon-ah does have his own style of rap,” Aviva thought. “You should rap like yourselves, not like him. That’s what makes you all special.”

“Aw.” Hoseok poked her on the cheek. “Cutie, manager-nim.”

“…Can we move on?” Aviva said. “Your audience doesn’t want to hear about me, they want to hear about you.”

Jimin quickly rapped the verse, blushing when they turned to him.

“Ah, sorry,” Jimin said in English for some reason.

“No, it was cool,” Namjoon told him, patting him on the shoulder. “You’re the coolest.”

Readier, the boys loosened up by seeing who could rap the fastest in English. Then Namjoon moved on to walking through their performance. Aviva could see the maknae line’s eyes glazing over as he spoke. Taehyung spotted her and blew her a kiss. Jimin noticed and laughed quietly. He moved over to her.

“Shouldn’t you be listening to your leader?” Aviva teased.

Jimin grinned sheepishly. “Ah, well… I thought maybe our fans could use an update on what we’re doing? That’s who you’re recording this for, right? Our fans?” He thought. Aviva nodded. “Right now we’re in the waiting room.” Jimin pulled at Jungkook’s arm. “Jungkook-ah.” Jungkook turned around and stepped closer to them. “The camera’s on, see?” Jungkook bent down slightly.

“Yah, you don’t have to bend down,” Aviva said. “I’m not that short…” Jungkook laughed. “What will you do next, Jiminie?”

“Next we will…”

“Lose weight!” Jungkook said. Aviva frowned.

“Eh? Why~”

Jungkook laughed. “Stop with the aegyo, noona, you’re too old for that!” He turned back to Namjoon, walking closer over to him to listen.

“…Jungkookie’s a little grumpy today, isn’t he?” Jimin thought.

“Nervous?” Aviva wondered.

“I am,” Jimin admitted.

“I meant Kook... but, yeah, probably everyone is. I mean, I’m nervous and I’m not even performing!”

Jimin grimaced.

“Namjoon-ah, Jungook-ah, have you changed your socks?” One of the assistants asked. The boys broke up to continue getting ready.

“Well… we’re going to lose weight now, I guess,” Jimin said. “Yes, going to lose weight diligently. So I can show you great abs.” He looked down at himself.

“Your abs are already great,” Aviva told him honestly. Hoseok popped up behind Jimin, his plainer mask hanging over his chin.

“What are you doing?” He wondered.

Jimin blinked at him. “What?”

“Jiminie’s giving the fans an update!” Aviva told Hoseok.

“Right now we’re changing into our cool outfits before rehearsal,” Jimin told her and the camera. He wiggled his many ringed fingers at her.

“Bling~Bling~” Hoseok said. He held up his own gloved hand. “It says Bangtan Sonyeondan on it!”

“They are cool gloves,” Aviva agreed. “But you’re interrupting Jiminie.”

“Yeah, don’t interrupt me while I’m speaking to the camera, hyung!” Jimin said. “I get…” He glanced at Aviva and then looked away from her, staring at his feet. “…Shy.” He laughed nervously.

“Why?” Hoseok wondered. “It’s just Avi-yah.”

“It’s fine.” Aviva switched off her camera. “We can take a break.”

“Thanks, noona.” Jimin smiled at her.

“Cookie?” Yoongi offered, holding a small snack bag out to them.

“Ah, no thanks, hyung,” Jimin said. “I’m still dieting, so…”

Yoongi shrugged, holding it out to Aviva.

She took one. “Thanks.”

“You know, your shyness is cute, but you have to get used to the cameras if we’re going to debut now,” Hoseok said to Jimin.

Jimin frowned. “Yeah, well, how do you suggest I do that, Hobi-hyung?”

“Hmm…” Hoseok grinned. “I dare you to flash your abs to the camera.”

“Eh?” Jimin said. “Why?”

“Why?” Aviva agreed.

“Well, he’s going to be doing it on stage all the time now, so it’d be good practice, right?” He figured.

Jimin’s brow furrowed. “He’s got a point.”

“Yes, but the internet is forever,” Aviva reminded him. “If I post this…”

Jimin let out a breath. “Let’s do it.” He gripped the edge of his shirt. “Film me, noona.”

Soon they moved upstairs to the stage for the rehearsal. She got a shot of them moving up the stairs. Jungkook spotted her and waved.

“Ah, manager-noona, when did you get here?”

The other members shot her peace signs as they passed.

They moved straight from the rehearsal into the pre-recording for No More Dream. Aviva watched from the side and then ran around the corner to meet them as they exited the stage.

Aviva filmed them walking off stage, down the hall. The assistants were waiting with tissues to blot at their sweaty faces.

“This leather…” Namjoon muttered, pulling at his shirt, which was sticking to him with sweat. She switched her camera off, letting it hang off her neck. “Honestly.”

“Bend down.” She motioned at him. He did and she carefully dabbed at his face with a tissue, not wanting to ruin the makeup artist’s hard work. “There’s water and towels in the dressing room.”

“Good,” Yoongi said as he passed her. “It’s hot.”

Aviva froze, spotting Jin crying as he stepped off the stage.

“Oppa…” She frowned, noting one of the other cameramen was following him closer to get a shot. She followed them too. “Yah, give him some space.” The camera man hesitated. Aviva flashed her employee ID, and a glare at him. The camera man waved his hand and retreated out of the room. Jin was surrounded by assistants who were wiping his face and fanning him. Jimin and Namjoon were hovering, watching him concernedly. “Hi, Jinie-oppa. It’s okay to cry, you know.”

“But, I’m the oldest," he choked out. "I'm not supposed to..."

“You may be the oldest, but you also have the most sensitive heart,” she thought. “It’s a curse and a blessing.”

“I need to… get ready… for the… performance.”

She frowned at his ragged breathing.

“Seokjin-oppa.” She leaned up, brushing his hair away from his face. “Can you breath with me? Copy my breathing. Come on, slowly in… and out… good job.”

“Sorry,” he muttered, as his breathing settled.

“Hey, it’s a big moment, it makes sense to have big feelings, you don’t need to apologize, okay?”

“Okay.” He smiled slightly. “Guess I’ll say thank you, then.” He bent and kissed her forehead. “Thank you, manager-nim.”

“You two are being very sweet, but you should know, Avi, that he’s crying because his pants kept falling down,” Namjoon teased.

“Yah!” Jin protested, his face turning pink. Namjoon laughed as Jin got him into a headlock and rubbed roughly at his head.

“Ah, watch it—Eunjung-ssi is going to yell at you!”

“Eh? I thought it was because he made a mistake?” Jimin said to Aviva. Jin glared at him. Jimin patted him on the arm. “Don’t cry, hyung, it makes me want to cry too.”

Jin rejoined the others to do their huddle and cheer before they stepped back out onto stage to preform Bulletproof Pt. 2.

Jin waved at her as he passed. Yoongi gave her two thumbs up. Namjoon flashed her a peace sign.

After the performance, Aviva was waiting for them again near the door.

“We did well!” Jin said, hugging her. She laughed.

“Ah, oppa, I’m filming!”

“Our first broadcast recording!” Jin hugged Hoseok.

“First success!” Hoseok did a double fist pump.

“Oh yeah!” Namjoon echoed him as Jin moved on to hug Yoongi. “We’ll do even better on tomorrow’s stage.”

“We will do better tomorrow,” Jin agreed, though he was more subdued than the other two. He smiled weakly. “I have confidence for tomorrow.” Aviva couldn’t find the words. Instead she reached up and brushed his hair out of his face again.

Music Bank, No More Dream Debut!- June 14th 2013

The next day during rehearsal, Yoongi showed off his shirt with his stage name on it to the camera.

“I’m Suga, you see that?”

Aviva nodded. “Otherwise I wouldn’t know who you are.”

“Yah, you brat, it’s for the dry rehearsal,” he said. “You know that.”

Taehyung laughed behind them. Yoongi made a silly face at him. He laughed harder.

Aviva went out into the seats out a couple rows away from the stage to film their rehearsal.

“Yah, noona, don’t you have confidence in me?” Jimin whined after they finished the rehearsal and gathered back in the dressing room. “I know I made a small mistake with the kick, but I promise I’ll practice—and I always get the jump right every time. Every time!”

Aviva was taking a break from filming to charge her camera.

“Hmm? What do you mean?”

“The part when I jump over Hobi, I saw how nervous you got!”

Aviva blushed slightly. “It’s not that I don’t trust you, Jiminie, I just… you know I worry.”

“Then don’t watch that part, close your eyes,” Yoongi suggested.

She frowned.

“I can’t do that. I have to support you guys, and get behind the scenes footage, and—“

“Okay, okay.” He waved his hand. “It was just a suggestion.”

She chewed at her lip. “I like the thing with the hat though. It’s cute.”

“I’m not sure cute was what Hobi was aiming for, but I’ll take it!” Jimin said.

Aviva got her camera back in time to film Jimin and Yoongi practicing their dance moves. Taehyung joined them.

“We have to do well,” he told Aviva seriously. “There’s only one chance.” She tilted her head.

“One chance for…?”

He blinked at her. “There’s only, one chance~” He started to sing.

She nodded. “One Shot, B.A.P.”

“Ding, ding, ding—correct!”

Meanwhile, Jungkook trying some of Namjoon’s throat spray.

He coughed. “Are you supposed to drink water with this?”

“Hmmm?” Namjoon looked at him sleepily.

Aviva turned to get shots of the other members. Jin spotted her and waved with the sleeves of his leather jacket, which he was wearing backwards. She laughed.

“Why are you being so cute?”

He pouted at her. “Are you suggesting I’m not usually cute?”

“You’re not usually this shy,” she thought.

“Ah, I did a shy introduction, so I’m still shy now,” he explained.

She nodded. “Well, that’s okay, oppa, I like both the shy and confident versions of you,” she said honestly. He blushed. “Where did Kook go? He was just here...” He laughed.

“Ah, yeah, he’s fallen asleep again.”

Jungkook had almost passed out in his chair.

“Drink,” she ordered him, handing him a water bottle as one of the stagehands fanned him.

“What?” He smiled at her, dazed. “Oh, manager-noona, hi.”

She frowned. “You need to eat something, get your blood sugar up.”

“But I’m on a diet~” Jungkook said. “You can’t make me~”

Aviva sighed. “What about some juice?”

He blinked and nodded. “Yes please.”

“I’ll get it for him,” Jin offered, pulling his jacket on the right way around now. Aviva glanced over at Jimin, who was still practicing.

“Get one for Jiminie too, please.”

Jin nodded.

“One juice for the maknae and one for the Bagel Man, got it.”

Aviva squinted after him.

“Why is Jiminie a bagel?”

“It’s a combo between baby face and glamorous body,” Jungkook explained. He smiled. “Namjoon-hyung told me I’ll probably be like that someday.” His brow furrowed. “Hmm, where did Namjoon-hyung go?”

“I’ll look for him.”

She found him sitting on a chair in the hallway, his head in his hands. He looked like The Thinker, except even stiffer than stone. She switched off her camera, having a feeling he wouldn’t want the fans seeing him like this.

“Namjoon-ah…” Aviva punched lightly at his back. “You’re so tense. Come on, man.”

He squinted at her.

“If that’s an attempt at a massage, you’re failing.”

“No, I’m just hitting you.”

“Oh. You’re doing great then.”

She sighed, laying her hands flat and smoothing them over his shoulders, kneading at the tense muscles.

He made a bit of a happy noise.

“Better?” She asked in his ear. He jolted and then stiffened again. “Sorry.” She withdrew from him.

“No! I…” He turned, his face red. “It’s fine. That was… nice. Thanks. You, ah, weren’t filming that, were you?”

She shook her head. “I do still need some more footage though.”

“You’ll find it,” Namjoon said confidently. “You’re good at this.”

“You’re so amazing, Syub Syub,” Hoseok was saying to Yoongi back inside the room. “You actually danced.” Yoongi turned, spotting Aviva with the camera.

“I usually don’t show off my dancing,” he explained to any future viewers.

“You’re so cool,” Hobi praised. Yoongi smiled awkwardly. Hoseok turned to Tae. “V-ssi, you should show us too.”

Taehyung blinked. “Show what?”

Hoseok hummed one line of the song. “That part.”

Tae did a confused little head wiggle for the camera.

It was cute, but awkward.

“The truth is, V-ah doesn’t do that part,” Yoongi told the camera.

“Oh?” Hoseok smirked.

Yoongi squeezed Taehyung’s shoulder.

“You don’t need to know that part. It’s not yours.”

Hoseok shot an apologetic look at Tae, who was frowning, and then attacked him with a hug, biting his shoulder for some reason.

“Ah, hyung, you’re not a vampire!” Tae said, laughing.

“You’re so cute I just wanna eat you up!” Hoseok told him. Taehyung ran away from him, hiding behind Aviva.

“Yah, leave Taehyung-ah alone,” Jin said, stopping his neck stretches to glare at Hoseok.

“Are you okay?” Aviva asked Yoongi as Tae leaned on her. “How’s your shoulder?” He frowned at the camera. “Ah, sorry, I can edit that out.”

“Please do. The shoulder’s fine,” he told her. “Right now, I’m a little nervous for the pre-recording. I feel dazed, but I’m keeping myself on my toes.” Hoseok and Jin popped in and out from behind him making faces. Tae flashed a peace sign in front of the camera. Yoongi completely ignored them. “We’ll work hard. Please watch over us.” He smiled, just a tinge of annoyance on his face.

“But you’ve been great in front of the camera,” she told him. “I really appreciate it, since it gives me more material to pick from… but don’t force yourself, okay?”

“I’m not,” he told her.

“Swag!” Namjoon called out as he passed the camera, ready to preform. Aviva tried not to laugh. Yoongi bowed slightly. Hoseok and Jimin flashed peace signs.

Aviva watched from the side, grinning as girls shrieked at Jimin’s abs reveal, and cheered at Jimin’s leap.

“We finished it!” Namjoon said as he came off stage, smiling in relief.

“Ah, that was scary!” Yoongi said, rubbing his chest.

Jungkook pronounced it, “So-so.”

“The end!” Hoseok said, flashing a peace sign at the camera.

“Hi.” Jin waved shyly. “We did well, I think.”

“The end!” Tae said, flashing a peace sign. Aviva laughed.

“Hobi just did that!”

Tae pouted.

In the dressing room, Aviva looked at Jimin.

“Have you been avoiding me?”

“Not you, necessarily…” He eyed the camera and stepped closer, pointing. “That red light scares me the most. It makes me wonder what I should say.”

“Just be yourself,” Aviva told him. “If I record anything you’re uncomfortable with sharing, I can always edit it out. I promise not to post anything you don’t want me to.”

Jimin smiled, stroking the lens like it was the face of his lover.

“You’re a good girl, huh?”

“I won’t be if you keep touching the lens!”

He laughed.

Across the room, Jin was making faces at Aviva, passing his hand over his face, and changing his expression dramatically. A sleepy Taehyung was sitting next to him as he got his makeup fixed, clearly not amused.

“Wow, I’m so nervous,” Jungkook said as they headed back towards the stage for the live broadcast.

“You got this!” Aviva told him.

During the performance, Aviva was out in the audience again, catching shots of the fans cheering, especially when the boys flashed their abs, and got into their dance solos.

Afterwards, the boys made more faces at her as they came off stage. The photographer had disappeared somewhere, so Aviva was put in charge of taking the after-performance group photos for the fans. Tae and Jimin were reaching across the group to hold hands, as Hoseok bit down on Jimin’s head for some reason.

“Hobi!” Aviva called out to him. “Do I need to get you a teething toy?” The boys laughed, including Hoseok.

“Ah, we are born in the year of the dog, after all! Come play with us!” He walked over and grabbed her hand, waving at one of the assistants. “Hi, hi, noona, can you get a picture of us with our manager too?” He patted Aviva on her head, ignoring her protests. “We won’t post it anywhere, so just stay still and let us commemorate this moment. You’re part of it too, you know.”

Oooh, starting with a tricky one! Nice. The latter two will be short and simple, but I want to dive into Jack’s a little deeper

Jack Manifold is a Unicorn 

Because... I dunno, it looks good with that sweet, sweet Blazeborn aesthetic. Also, he matches well with Niki this way, who gives me mad Pegasus vibes

... Okay, on a more practical note, though, I just think it would work well for his design to have the blue-and-red parts split down the middle, sort of like with Ranboo, but with the horn providing the exact line for that split. His aura has both colors naturally, and they absolutely refuse to blend together, so you get this neat water-and-oil swirl/camo pattern. And while we’re talking about color palettes, I think he’d probably have a light grey coat, so those two main colors can take the spotlight without needing to compete as much. Very simple, but there’s a good reason it’s a classic OC palette. Down the line, after he resurrects himself, he could also have some darker grey splotches to represent burns. Just because they’re not physical wounds, that doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t have a visual mark!... Speaking of which, once he gets them, his Cutie Mark is right in the middle of a grey spot, too.

As for the Blazeborn thing, I think it’d be cool if he was naturally inclined towards fire magic. I’m currently torn between Blazeborn in general being derived from regular Ponies delving into either Crystal Pony or Pheonix magic, or they simply have a Dragon ancestor somewhere down the line. Either way, they don’t have the same flexible magic as “normal” Unicorns, so they have a lot of trouble with complex spells, but, of course, their control over fire magic is remarkably detailed on its own to make up for that, and they usually learn how to hone that magic much faster, too.

Quackity is a Pegasus

This one’s simple. He has wings. They’re not as big as Phil’s, which is why I’m keeping him as Pegasus rather than a Griffon or Hippogriff. Tbh there’s not much to this one, he just is a Pegasus

Okay, um... I don’t want to say he’s a full-on Draconequus, but he definitely has some Draconequus blood. Not Changeling, because they’re a whole different kind of shapeshifter and only really change their appearance, while Quackity has genuine Crimes-Against-Meatspace powers (the “phasing in and out of his clothes without moving” thing, the flat smiley face, and... Y’know... The torture), and I’ve only seen one species capable of that. Probably not directly related to anyone like, say, Discord himself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are still other Draconequus hiding out among various species, and he could be descended from one of them with a similar affinity for chaos. Someone as powerful as Discord is bound to leave a lasting impression as a cultural icon.

Foolish is an Alicorn

... I know, usually you would wait to assign this to someone, but c’mon. He’s Foolish. An actual god. There is nobody - except maybe BBH, but I’m hesitant on that one, and even then, he’d be a lesser alicorn - who would fit in with folks like the good ol’ Solar Lich Queen better than this dude. He’s even specified his divine domains in canon. He’s got the skies, the seas, life and death (more specifically, the transition between them), sharks, deserts, architecture, gold, and the drive to build larger-than-life structures in general. What about that does not scream “greater alicorn”?

Coffee shop AU: I can see it go both ways. To avoid employer harassment, though, I’m going to go with Tugger is the barista who flirts with everything that moves and Plato is the underslept student who comes every day for his dose of caffeine and who can’t take him seriously because “stop it Vic, I’ve seen him flirt with Jenny, for Christ sake, I’m sure he’s not serious now!”.

Highschool/College AU: Is there any doubt? Tugger is the back row slacker who somehow manages to scrap through to the frustration of Munkustrap, Plato is the A+ student who gets asked to tutor him.

Rivals to lovers AU: You mean you don’t think both take it very seriously? Tugger is an attention-whore, anyone who takes away his spotlight is his rival for life. Plato is more level-headed, but he’s very serious and focused; if you endanger his work... This would be a real Slow Burn.

Enemies to lovers AU:  I’m going for a Superhero AU dynamic here. Tugger is the villain who is half in it for the pleasure of pulling at Plato’s strings. Plato is the straight-laced superhero gets just so flustered every time the guy he’s supposed to be fighting starts to whisper dirty things in his ear or talks about what a cutie he is. They end up somewhere in the middle: Tugger turns into more of an anti-hero in that he doesn’t do so many overtly immoral things anymore, Plato learns to turn a blind eye to his partner’s ... night activities. (Yes, this is completely a Spideypool dynamic, I like it)

Soulmate AU: Surprisingly, Tugger wants to find his soulmate. He will take the secret to his grave, though, the only one who knows is his best friend, Bombalurina, because she got it out of him one day they were very very drunk. Plato kind of dreads the day, because his Soulmate mark indicates that his soulmate first comment is going to be complimenting his butt...

Single parent AU: Tugger is a single parent. He adopted George right out of college, and he has never looked back. If Plato wants anything to do with him, he’ll have to get George’s approval first.

Doctor AU: Plato is the long-suffering, sleep-deprived doctor who is convinced Tugger’s flirting is just a sequel of the concussion he came in for. Tugger is the patient who might be exaggerating his own symptoms to see the cute doctor more often.

Bodyguard AU: Is this even a question? Tugger is a rock star (how could he not be?) and Plato is his bodyguard. As for who fell for whom, this is a mutual pining situation. Tugger tried to get into Plato’s pants on the first day, Plato rejected him on principle (he’s his boss!!), and now both of them pine from a distance because they don’t know how to break the status quo.

Pirate AU: It can go both ways. Either Plato is the pirate and Tugger is a royal brat who gets kidnapped, much to the chagrin of Plato, because he’s a pain in the ass (maybe Plato is the second of command for someone else? Macavity? And Tugger is a pain, but he grows on Plato and he ends up helping him escape...). Or Tugger is a pirate, Errol Flynn style, and Plato is a commander for the Marine forces for England.

Childhood best friends AU: This is canon Tuggato for me! Plato has had a crush on Tugger since forever. It took him a while to realize it was a crush and not just a hero worship thing, though. Tugger is completely oblivious and it’s going to take something drastic to make him notice the heart-eyes the other tom is giving him.

That from day one of us talking you just made me feel like a friend rather than someone in their first ever conversation with a writing partner and I really love you for being that way 🥺

I do not follow people unless I’m genuinely interested in their muse but it’s rare I will actually go out of my way to read threads for them that aren’t even my own simply because I can’t get enough of them. Such is the case with ya boi Lance. I mean—- in case I haven’t made that crystal clear with the number of headcanons I’ve already sent and will continue to send cause I ain’t even near finished, I’m not sure I’ll ever be. Because you’ve truly done something with him that is the mark of a good writer. You have given him genuine depth, layers, actual lore worth exploring if one wants to know what all went into making him as he is as an adult. It’s something I look to find especially in the ocs of my mutuals and attempt to do with my own & you make it look effortless in how you write him.

It’s easy to see how much you care about him, how much thought and time and work you’ve poured into your development if him to a point where he’s arguably one of the most genuine feeling ocs ive found on this site. The kind that makes me stop and go, ‘Shit... This muse could literally be the protagonist or at least a fan favorite side character or villian in a movie or tv series and I’d actually pay to see it.” Lance totally gives off that energy and has enough CHARACTER to easily pull it off. It’s honestly something that makes me smile cause I know Lance has a thing about needing attention, needing the spotlight on him and I can only imagine how smug he would be if he knew how easily he steals it each time he graces my dash.

And it’s all very indicative of how much you love him, how devoted you are to the characterization of him and your writing for him. Thoughts and realizations on MLP season 1 and 2

With MLP ending I’ve decided to start watching the series from the beginning. Before I started watching season 3, I wanted to talk about and point out all the things I find interesting about the show early in its early years, things I didn’t realize the first time around, questions I never really thought of until rewatching the first two seasons and how things are different in the show now compared to season one and two.

It’s kind of weird how we don’t see more Luna and Twilight interactions since Twilight helped Luna reconnect with her subjects and how to fit in with modern Equestria. By the end of Luna Eclipse, Luna and Twilight become friends, but not only do we never really see the two interact with each other that much after the episode, there’s also that weird scene in the season 3 premiere in which Luna doesn’t seem to think Twilight is up to task at the Crystal Empire.

I never really realized how weird it was for Luna to not show up again till season 2. Like, the second episode of the series ends with the revelation that the villain was actually Princess Celestia sister, yet she doesn’t make another appearance till season 2.

Luna punishing herself for her actions in Do Princess Dream of Magic Sheep make zero sense when you consider the fact that the whole point of Luna Eclipse was that she wanted to be forgiven by the ponies of Equestria and be friends with them

It’s never explained what Luna did as Nightmare Night or how long she was Nightmare Night. Like she’s regarded as this terrible villain according to myth, but it’s never really explained what terrible things she did. All we know that in the show, Luna grew jealous of Celestia, became Nightmare Moon and was then banished to the moon.

Pinkie Pie Pinkie sense really isn’t utilized that often and is barely even referenced. Like with Pinkie Pie having her own version of spider sense you think the writers would utilize it more, but they don’t. Like there have been numerous times in the show in which Pinkie Pie Pinkie sense would have come in handy but they didn’t since the writers seem to have forgotten about it for the most part.

Despite being capable of speech just like ponies, Cows and Sheep are treated like farm animals even though creatures like Buffalos and Yaks have their own culture

We have no idea what’s the deal with Donkey’s and mules are. Like its never really explained if they are from another country like Zebra’s or if they’ve always been part of Equestria. You got to imagine that Donkey’s would feel jealous of ponies since they don’t seem to have any magic at all and are just plain. Plus, a mule is a combination of a horse and donkey, so it honestly would be interesting to see an interspecies relationship between a horse and donkey on screen.

It's interesting how the Everfree forest became less of a threat as the series went on. Early on its regarded as this scary and dangerous episode but then in season 8, you see the Mane Six and Starlight planning a camping trip in the forest

I find it very weird how despite saving Equestria twice by the end of season 2, barely anyone seems to recognize the heroes of Equestria. In Suite and Elite, you would think the fancy ponies of Canterlot would recognize that Rarity is one of the six ponies that helped saved Equestria from Nightmare Moon and Discord. Like, you would think that the ponies who saved Equestria would be very famous and recognizable yet there have only been a few moments in the series in which a pony will recognize them for that. Rainbow Dash and Rarity seem to be more well known for their respected careers in later seasons than their aid in saving Equestria. This is made even weirder since every time Spike steps foot in the crystal empire, all the ponies treat him like a celebrity due to saving their empire twice. I’m not saying that the mane six need to be treated like celebrities but just like how everyone knows who Kim Possible is because of her exploits, you would think every pony in Equestria would know who the Mane Six are.

The fact that Twilight wasn’t revealed to have a brother until the season 2 finale is comes out of nowhere. I mean yeah, the show goes on later to introduce siblings of other members of the mane six without any notice and other shows have pulled the same thing, but the fact that they never revealed that the main character had a sibling until till the end of the second season is just bizarre.

With the final season approaching, I still can’t believe we don’t nothing about Zebra culture. Like Zecora haven’t talked about her homeland, her homeland hasn’t been shown, why she decided to leave her home is unknown and we haven’t even seen another Zebra at all.

On the topic of Zecora, not only did she get the short end of the stick since the original plan of her becoming a second mentor to Twilight was scrapped, but we also never really see her and Apple Bloom interact anymore. Like the show set up this plot line of Zecora teaching Applebloom how to make potions and such yet that haven’t been referenced since season 4 I believe. Heck, in the season 6 episode, On Your Mark, why didn’t Applebloom just hang out with Zecora and practice potion making when the other CMC was doing their own thing?  

There are some episodes that are much better then I remember them being such as Stare Master, A Dog and Pony Show, The Best Night Ever, Cutie Pox and Hearts and Hooves Day.

For all the worldbuilding that has been done in the show, I find it weird how we haven’t gotten to learn or see more of Buffalos, Diamond Dogs, Minotaur’s or Bat Ponies in the series. Heck, why don’t we see any members from those species attending the school of Friendship?

It's kind of a shame that we don’t really see Spike interact with other members of the Mane six beside Twilight and Rarity. Yeah, there’s some interaction between Spike and other members in the first two seasons but even then, you see him interact with Twilight and Rarity the most. I know one interaction I really enjoy is his and Pinkie and you would think one interaction that would have stayed prominent would be Spike and Fluttershy considering hoe Fluttershy fawned over Spike in the series premiere.

I know the reason Luna wasn’t at the Grand Galloping Gala in season 1 was that she works night’s but this ends up being contradicted when there have been several instances after the season one finale in which we see Luna at night.  I suppose she could be taking a short break but still

It's funny how Celestia was seen as this very incredible powerful character early on but after being defeated by Chrysalis it just started this trend of her and all the other princesses beside Twilight almost always being useless whenever a villain tries taking over/destroying Equestria.

Speaking of uselessness, don’t even get me started on the Royal Guards. Despite being around since season 1, they have never been useful in any situation besides the apprehension of Cozy Glow in the season 8 finale. Heck, they weren’t even around during the Storm King invasion for some reason. Jim Miller, the supervising director of the show, answered my question about why they are never helpful in times of crisis with him explaining that if the guards were competent then the Mane Six wouldn’t be needed which I don’t agree with. You can still have the guards be competent and help out and still have the main characters be the ones to save the day. You see this in stories involving superheroes in which cops and firefighters are competent and helpful while the superhero deals with the major crisis.

Sweetie Belle living situation is confusing and has never really been cleared up. We know she goes to school in Ponyville and she seems to normally live with her parents, so does that mean Rarity parents live in Ponyville? Also, Rarity parents are the only parents of a member of the mane six that haven’t been focused on that much which I think is a shame. Hopefully, they’ll get a moment in the spotlight in the final season

The show can’t seem to figure out what the Wonderbolts. It switches between them being fliers who perform air shows to a military branch that, like the royal guards, are useless during times of crisis or when danger is happening

I find it hard to believe that no one knows anything about Spike origin even though someone must have found the egg, documented it with it then being used for Twilight entrance exam for some reason. Surely Twilight could have asked Twilight where Spike was found at as an egg
