Hey so I just found your account and omg?? it's literally so amazing 😭✋
Anyways-I was just looking through a bunch of the twist monster au headcannons/stories, and I thought of a scenario that could be done!
Basically the cast reacting to gender neutral or female reader/yuu acting stuff out in their book they are reading like poses, dialogue, just genuine reactions to the text itself
ex. Throwing the book across the room and them being genuinely concerned that something happened bc reader is just staring off into space or cursing but what actually happened was either a character died/did something embarrassing/the mc and love interest finally kiss
Anyways that's all I had in mind hope you have a good day/night! <3
Omg thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the content! QvQ
Ah, books. Such a wonderful creation humans made to fill us with raw, pure emotion or shattering our hearts and souls into a million tiny pieces—only for us to read it again and again! Don’t you just love those moments as a reader? UvU
Except for cliffhangers. Readers have a love/hate relationship with it, writers adore cliffhangers! ÒvÓ
So, what happens if we take a bookreader!Yuu (they/them) and throw them into Twisted Monsterland where even the history books read like a world guide/omnibus to a game or TV series? Oh, and I took a bit of inspiration from a Disney princess comic and a Bill Watterson “Calvin and Hobbes” comic for two of these scenarios. 😂
/-----------/
“Jeez, you sure you’ve got enough books, Yuu?”
“The librarian wouldn’t let me check out more than ten at a time,” Yuu replied, their backpack and arms filled with thick books. “Wish I could’ve gotten ten more at least, but this’ll do for now.”
“Are you sure you can even read all those before next semester?” Deuce asked in concern. “Those look pretty…dense.”
“Oh, I’ll be done in a week. Maybe a week and a half if we get a lot of homework.”
“Funya?! You gotta be kidding me!” Grim said. “Can humans read that fast?”
“Not everyone. Some people are slow readers, but that’s okay since they enjoy it at their own pace while I enjoy it at mine. Only problem for me is choosing which one of these I want to read first!”
/Later that night/
“Yuu? It’s time to eat!” Grim called out. Silence greeted him as he stared at Yuu, who was sitting on the couch with their face practically buried in a book. Frowning, the chimera padded over to the couch and repeated, “Yuu! I’m hungry!”
Still the human didn’t seem to respond, their shoulders hunching as they turned the page.
“Yuu? Yuu!” Huffing, Grim crossed his arms as he glared up at them. “You’ve been reading for the past three hours! How much longer are you gonna read that book?”
“What’s going on, pal?” one of the ghosts asked as the trio appeared.
Gesturing his paws at Yuu, he said, “They’ve been reading ever since we got back from the library today, and now they’re not reactin’ to me. It’s dinner time and they haven’t made any food yet!”
Before anyone could even think of what to say, a loud, shrill squeal filled the dorm.
“Eeeeeee!!!” Yuu squealed, a huge grin on their face as they flopped to the side and kicked their legs like a nervous rabbit while holding the book against their chest. “Omg it happened, it happened!!”
“Mrah!? What?! What happened?!” Grim yelled, wings flared out defensively while his fur bristled. “Why are you yelling!”
“My new OTP!! They finally kissed!!” Yuu said, their eyes wide as they rocked from side to side. “They kissed!! Yes!! Yesyesyesyesyessssss!!!”
“OTP? What’s an OTP??” one of the other ghosts asked.
“It’s what we like to call the ‘one true pairing’ in a story,” Yuu explained, a positively giddy expression on their face with eyes shining brighter than the stars as they struck a dramatic pose. “It’s two characters who vibe with each other on a level that you just can’t help but want them to be together—and the author brought these two together!! Yeeeeeeeee, I’m so happy!!”
“And loud,” Grim grumbled, paws clamped over his ears. “Why are you standing like that?”
“It’s how the main character professed their love for the other!”
“…are all humans as weird as you?”
“Trust me, there are people out there that are way crazier in their excitement than I am right now.”
“Really?!”
“Oh yeah. Don’t even get me started on the fanfics people write.”
“Fan…fics?”
“Oh, you sweet summer child…”
/Two days later/
“Heeeey, lil’ Shrimpy~!”
“Mm…”
“Eh…? Hey, Shrimp…why are you ignorin’ us? It’s not very nice.”
“Now, now, Floyd. One mustn’t interrupt a reader when they’re indulging in such a riveting story.”
“Shh,” Yuu muttered, their brow furrowed as they hunched closer to the book. “I’m at the best part!”
Floyd frowned as he laid his head on his arms, the basilisk slumping against the table. “Man, this is lame,” he said. “You promised to come play basketball with me today!”
“Once I finish this part, we can go do whatever you want, okay, Floyd?”
Jade hummed in amusement as he said, “A rather daring proposition you just offered, Yuu.”
“We have to do a buncha reading for class anyway,” Floyd said with a bored expression. “And Crabby and Mackerel said you finished two other books already, so what’s the point of thi-”
“AAAAIIIIIEEEEE!!?!?” Yuu shrieked, leaping out of their chair as Jade and Floyd recoiled in shock. Before the twins could react, Yuu had ducked back into their chair and pressed the book even closer to their face than before.
“…lemmie see that,” Floyd said, leaning over the table to grab it.
“No, no! It’s fine, go do something else!” Yuu said all too quickly, sinking even lower and turning away from Floyd’s reaching claws. “I think I heard Riddle in the hallway.”
“Lemmie see it!”
“No! You can’t read it!” Yuu cried out, bolting away from the table holding the book tight to their chest.
“Get back here, Shrimpy!”
“Noooo!!”
“Oh my,” Jade uttered, eyes wide for a moment before he chuckled. “Perhaps I should look into this book when they’ve finished it.”
/The next day/
“Oh no…oooh noooooo, I hate this so much!”
“Then why are you reading it?” Jamil asked, the naga curled around them. “If you don’t like it, just take it back to the library.”
“I can’t! It’s soooooo good!” Yuu said, practically throwing themselves backwards onto Jamil’s snake half with the book pressed against their face.
“Eh? But wait, you just said you hated it,” Kalim said in confusion.
“I hate it, but I love it so much,” Yuu told them with a whine, their head now touching the floor on the other side of Jamil’s snake body yet still draped over him like a cat. “This book will ruin your heart and shatter your soul into a million pieces!...you should read it too!”
“Given how dramatic you’re being, it might not be wise,” Jamil said with a sigh.
“Read it!”
“It’s okay, Yuu. We can read together! It’ll be more fun that way!”
“Kalim, no. You still need to study for the next potions exam.”
“Augh, I need someone to talk about this story with so we can lament in solidarity!”
“…have you been taking lessons from Rook lately?”
/Three days later/
“Um…is Yuu okay? They’re looking a little…tense.”
It had been several days since Yuu borrowed a stack of books, and already they had gone through nearly half of their hoard. Between classes and on breaks or after finishing tests, it wasn’t hard for students to notice the lone human with their nose between the pages of one book after the other. Even the researchers had taken note of Yuu’s behavior in between tests, making note of their expressions and how their body changes with each scene depicting their emotions. It was noteworthy how they reacted when a character in the story did something “cringeworthy and stupid” (as Yuu would explain when asked), it looked as though the human had swallowed a lemon.
At the moment they were sitting in Heartslabyul, yet another book in their arms as they sat on one side of the lounge. Cater had taken progression snapshots of Yuu’s body slowly curling into itself, eyes steadily growing wider and wider to the point it looked as though they’d bolt away in panic.
“They’re fine,” Grim told Trey as he munched on a snack. “They’ve been like this since they got all those books. That’s the pose they had last time when their Ohteevee smooched or somethin’.”
“Oh, you mean ‘OTP’, Grimmy,” Cater corrected with a smile. “That’s so cute! Our human has an OTP already~!”
“I’ve heard of hitting the books, but this is ridiculous,” Ace commented with a sigh. “They’ve been reading so long that I forgot what half their face looks li-”
“GRAAAAH!!!!”
SLAM! Fwump!!
“Gyah!?” the boys yelped, everyone staring at Yuu as they sat on the couch with a dark scowl.
“Yo, what the heck? Why’d you throw the book like that?” Ace asked, pointing at the large tome on the other side of the couch now.
“Um…Yuu?” Deuce began when they didn’t respond. “Are…you okay?”
“……I’m mad,” came the response, Yuu’s expression growing more annoyed as they stared off into space.
“About what?” Riddle asked in surprise.
Yuu’s gaze turned to the discarded book, their expression as though they had been betrayed by a trusted friend as they said, “Because my favorite character died, and I refuse to read how the book ends when there’s literally two freaking pages left! That’s not enough space to bring them back in a satisfying way!!”
“Y…you’ve gotta be kidding me,” Ace grumbled with a sigh. “That big of a reaction just because a fictional character was killed off?”
“You weren’t there to see the struggles they went through! I saw them change from an annoying bully into a fully developed and vulnerable character who wanted to take charge of their life—and the author killed them off!” Jumping to their feet, Yuu marched towards Ace and Deuce’s room where they’d left their stuff and said, “Where’s my notebook? I need to fix this!”
“What are you gonna do?” Grim called out.
“Write a fanfic, because my scrunkly deserves to be happy!”
“Huh? Scrunkly??”
/Final day/
“Oh, Great Seven…what happened in your book this time?” Vil asked with a sigh.
Yuu sniffled as they tried to dry their tears, though it was difficult as more continued to flow down their cheeks. “I…I just finished my last book,” they said, their voice cracking a little with emotion as Grim pat their arm reassuringly.
“All ten books in a week?” Vil said in surprise. “That’s…impressive. Even so, why are you so upset? Was the story that horrible?”
“No…it…it…it was too good!” Yuu cried out, clutching the book so tight that their knuckles turned white as the tears flowed freely now.
“Ah…such pure, raw human emotion,” Rook crooned. “To express it so freely without fear…beaute!”
“Was the book really that good?” Epel asked.
“Yes!” Yuu wailed. “Now that it’s over, I…I don’t know what to do with myself now…”
Peering at the title, Vil gave a thoughtful hum and said, “Oh, that story. I hear there is supposed to be a spin-off book series. The first one should have released just the other day.”
“Really?!”
“Mrrr…now you’ve done it,” Grim grumbled with a sigh. “Here we go again.”

While Sing 3 is still developing can you think of the 5 things you want to see in that movie and the 5 thing you don’t wanted?
Thank you so much for the ask and I'm sorry for the delay in answering. I hope you enjoy and this properly answers your question! - <3 Gooseless
----------------------------
Ok so, I'm personally a bit of a skeptic on if Sing 3 will come out soon (or ever at this point) due to the strikes likely halting all work on it. And obviously, if they worked through the strikes, I will not be supporting the movie in the slightest due to my pure hatred of crossing picket lines for no good reason and AI being used as studios want it to be. However, I do have serval things I do want to see if/when it comes out and a ton of stuff I don't.
Things I want to see (Please Illumination, Please):
Rynny being confirmed. That should surprise none of you. This blog was started as, and still primarily is, as Rynny ship blog. I love those two so much together and I feel like it would complete Johnny's queer allegory storyline very well (ie. familial acceptance, wider community acceptance, personal acceptance by allowing yourself to be yourself). My mutual have been spammed with numerous songs that I have choreographed duets to for these two already and I would just absolutely love to see it.
Noodlemoon being confirmed. I am very vocally a Noodlemoon truther and I adore those two together. Buster's chaos to Eddie's chill would work so well and it makes the most sense for me when it comes to potential partners for either of them.
More scenes of the troupe being a family. They act like a family already and I love the snippets we see, but I would love to see more of their group dynamic. Like Mrs. Crawly is essentially Johnny's grandma at this point, Rosita being the troupe mom, Gunter being a chaotic uncle.
The gang being a family. These boys are my absolute favourite characters. They're adorable together already but I really want Johnny to call Stan and Barry his uncles. Or have Marcus refer to Nooshy as Johnny's sister (feel like that one could be slipped in easily). Marcus is an amazingly good dad to Johnny after the whole disownment thing was patched up and it's clear that whatever mandated therapy they went to is working wonders so I want more scenes of them together (and hopefully Johnny doing more questionable things, like please, let the boy pick a lock).
Gunter getting a conflict. Now, I'm not saying drag Gunter through personal hell. He has done that enough in shorts. But he hasn't faced a personal conflict in any movie yet and is the only troupe member to not do so. I think it's about time we get more of an insight into his character and I think this would be an amazing opportunity.
Things I Don't Want To See (Please No Illumination, Please No):
I swear, do not kill off Nana, Hobbs, Clay, or Mrs. Crawly. They're the oldest cast members, I know. You want more character development, I know. If you kill any of them off however, I will personally lead the revolt. They are all immortal now.
Bring back Mike. I hate him. Just straight up. He bullies a kid!!! That goes for Klaus too and Jimmy. They are irredeemable villians. You bring them back, I protest in front of your studio offices. They all deliberately hurt people, two of which used abuse of power as well. Just NO.
Create a love triangle? Jail. I hate love triangles. Partially due to it typically actually being a lover corner (two people interested in one person instead of the actual intricacies of a triangle), mainly because it's stupid. It's overplayed, in nearly every film saga it seems, and are always pretty pointless. I just do not like them in the slightest and will cry if I have to sit through one.
Do not put Buster in jail. I know we joke about the amount of felonies that man has committed but at this point, if he goes to jail, the legal system in their universe will be busy for the next century. Also, none of the teens need extra trauma. Just leave them be.
If y'all destroy one of the best queer allegories I have ever seen by giving Johnny a canon female romantic partner, I will start a fucking revolution. I literally study cultures and films and character coding, ok? Like that's my whole field of study. Johnny's story being a queer allegory is so important to me. Not only is it incredably realistic in my opinion (I cry at the disownment scene because something very similar was said to me when I came out), but almost every other queer personI talk to how has watched these movies picked up on the allegory and loves it as well. It's very well written and not subtle in a good way. It's great for starting conversations about LGBTQIA+ characters in media. ...Also, he's apparently based on Elton John according to my friend that has the character book, and I'm pretty sure Elton John would be pissed if you fucked that up.
Though, I feel like I should make a disclaimer here. My first few fandoms that I was raised in have taught me how to be an expert at ignoring canon (special shout out to Supernatural in particular). Just because it happens in a movie, doesn't mean I'm going to put that in my works. I'm a fanfic writer after all. I write what I want to happen, not necessarily what does happen according to canon.

Realm of the elderlings ask meme thing
Thanks for tagging me @khutsydoh !! I love thinking about my favorite wet dog of a man
Favourite Rote book: Fool's Errand
Why: I'm a romantic at heart, ngl. The domestic bliss, walks on the beach, late night talks sipping brandy by the fireplace, the Fool reading everything Fitz had written (!!!!! I can't think too much about that one without wanting to explode), Fitz getting every surface of his house lovingly carved by the Fool... Just the truly incredible way Fitz described that bubble of happiness and feeling whole (even if he was still forged!!!) just because the Fool was there with him and Nighteyes. I love it when a character is the most repressed being ever and the love still bursts through because it's just that strong.
After every awful thing that happened in Ass Quest, I definitely think Fitz deserved a time away from the Farseers to rest and find himself outside of all the roles he had to perform for the crown. Though, 15 years in nearly complete isolation except for Hap and Starling are a strech, he really was running away from life like the Fool said. Him coming back to Buckkeep and facing all the people from his childhood as an adult felt so amazing to read. I personally feel a lot for Fitz and his complicated relationships with his family. For him to meet Chade honestly and make him see how much he hurt him was !!!! Him hating Dutiful at first just bc he saw so much of himself as a kid in him and tbf Dutiful is a tangible reminder of all the trauma from his teenager years, so Fitz having to process all that was exquisite too.
Funniest mission ever to have to find a teenager that's unknowingly horny for a cat, but the Fool and Fitz can turn it into a secret identity rom com and I ate it up!!! Happiest book of the trilogy for me and it's because Fitz was happy to be near the Fool.
Top three favourite characters: Beloved in all their facets, Patience, Ronica
Top three least favourite characters: Regal, the Satrap, Civil
Favourite ship of the floating kind: Ophelia bc she's an agent of chaos
Top 3 ships of the people kind: Fitzloved, Althea and Jek (Robin Hobb really missed so much potential), Patience and Lacey
Would you rather be witted or skilled: Skilled
If you were witted, what animal would you bond with: Probably my cat bc we already spend nearly every hour of the day together.
Would you rather live in the Outislands, the Mountain Kingdom, the Six duchies, Bingtown, the Rain wilds, Kelsingra, Jamailia, the Pirate isles or Mercenia/Fool's homeland?: I haven't read the Fitz and The Fool trilogy so idk if I'd like Kelsingra but the Six Duchies seem like the better option just because I hate stuffy society and the cold, which rules out all others.
How were you introduced to the books: I love Chihayafuru and a wonderful artist I followed for that fandom posts about ROTE. I got the sense I would love to suffer about it and asked about the right order to read the books, thank you @leafykat !!!
Share a quote you love:
As I entered to set the pack on my table, the wolf was sprawled before the fire drying his damp fur and the Fool was stepping around him to set a kettle on the hook. I blinked my eyes, and for an instant I was back in the Fool’s hut in the Mountains, healing from my old injury while he stood between the world and me that I might rest. Then as now he created reality around himself, bringing order and peace to a small island of warm firelight and the simple smell of hearth bread cooking. He swung his pale eyes to meet mine, the gold of them mirroring the firelight. Light ran up his cheekbones and dwindled as it merged with his hair. I gave my head a small shake. “In the space of a sundown, you show me the wide world from a horse’s back, and the soul of the world within my own walls.” “Oh, my friend,” he said quietly. No more than that needed to be said. We are whole. - Fool's Errand
Sometimes a family is just two guys and their matchmaker wolf y'know

A selection of unhinged quotes from my political theory professor:
"Socrates has a tiny ghost in his head telling him when things are wrong. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell him when things are right so he’s just really annoying."
*Brings a 1-liter bottle of sparkling water to every class and drinks the whole thing during lecture.*
“The flood happened because God looked down at earth and said ‘I don’t know what the hell I’m supposed to do with this’, and so he nerfed us again.”
“God comes down and asks ‘Where my people at?’ And Adam and Eve are like ‘We done fucked up’.”
“Any schmuck can match their socks to their shoes but the mark of a true gentleman is matching your socks to your mood.” - said because someone insulted his neon pink socks.
“At that point, everyone else would be dead and it would just be Carl Schmidt waddling around Germany all alone.”
Prof: “Is the Illuminati still a thing with your generation?” Student: “Yeah” Prof: “The number one rule of the Illuminati is toughen the fuck up.”
“You can read Hobbes’ Behemoth if you're like a glutton for punishment or something.”
“The neat thing about soup is that you can start with the same ingredients and end up with a new soup every time.”
“If any of you steal my pies I’m going to assume you’re possessed by a demon... I made a pie yesterday. You have NO IDEA how much fruit goes into one of those fuckers.”
“The great thing about Locke is he’s dead. Once you’re a corpse you can be used for anything.”
“I am the crazy leftist professor your parents warned you about. I will make you read Marx and I will say that racism is bad. Sue me.”
"de Sade would be great at being on the internet. And I do mean that as an insult."
Brought a jar to class and put a dollar in it every time he used the word ‘neoliberal’, said he'd give us the money that goes in at the end of the semester. (we each got 3 bucks, there are 15 people in the class)
"Time is a flat circle and I am but a lonely goldfish cracker."
“By a show of hands, who is hungover today? I’ll go first to make you feel better. I am hungover today, be nice to me."
Starts lecture by writing on the whiteboard: “THE ECONOMY IS STUPID”
“Just to be clear, I’m not saying we should guillotine people who open soap shops on Etsy.”
“People don’t get my Simpsons references anymore. You kids today with your sponge bob and anime.”
“If you need help, please ask for it. The worst thing that happens is I send you a super condescending email and you’re no worse off.”
“You’re a shitty libertarian if you accidentally become a Leninist.”
“Anyone seen one of these modern garbage trucks? It’s sick right?! Pretty fucking cool!” proceeds to do an impression of a garbage truck “Marx would love to drive around a dope robot truck.”
"That’s what makes babies just awful. They don’t understand that they don’t always get what they want."
"For how many of y’all does getting stoned and staring at a wall to ponder morality sound like a great class?"
“I once had a student use the topic 'The only way to commune with the aliens is through nuclear warfare' for this assignment, nothing you write can scare me anymore."
“I'm not going to make you read this. It’s 4 volumes, 2500 pages, and mostly about how linen is produced. Moments of brilliance though.”
“I think we should replace the death penalty with public humiliation. ”
"Crude Freudism will get you 80% of the way there 90% of the time."
"I’m going to throw my uncle under the bus here… Actually, I fucking hated that guy and he’s dead so whatever."
"The best thing you can do for your future happiness is to never think about politics. …I say to a bunch of people enrolled in a 400-level political theory class. Y’alls mental health is fucked I guess."
"God tells you not to do the one Bad Thing and Eve is just so sexy that man has to do the one Bad Thing."
"I haven’t worn a 1950’s bra but I’ve heard they’re very uncomfortable. …Not that I’m opposed, I just don’t have the access and I've been banned from three museums so far."
"Course evaluations are available now y’all. I don’t care what you say about me or the class, but make sure you mention how great my hair is."
"Identity politics can be useful, but I think we’ve probably taken it too far since now we’re at the point where Kid Rock is shotgunning 18 packs of bud light on Twitter as a form of protest."
"We basically live in an aristocracy where you can vote. Sorry to disappoint you if you think Joe Biden is a communist."
"Do you know why we didn’t celebrate international workers day on May first? Because America says fuck you, that’s why."

10 Fandom, 10 Characters, 10 People
Thanks @moondal514 for the tag!
Rules: name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people to do the same
This is an impossible task so I'm filling this up with how I'm feeling right now, impulsively, without thinking about it too hard. Ask me tomorrow it would be different. Also the order is arbitrary and means nothing.
1) Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
THEE original gender envy. The boy. I thought I wanted to be with him when really I wanted to be him. and kiss Winry. Manga of all time. What else is there to say.
2) Ellana from the Ewilan & Marchombres Series by Pierre Bottero
She's the best Marchombre that ever was. She writes poetry. She's hot. She has claws. She is my childhood hero and role model. She is the best Bottero character ever. I am in love with her.
3) The Biologist from The Southern Reach by Jeff VanderMeer
I don't know her name and I don't care. If the first tome wasn't from her perspective I probably wouldn't have been so invested. I would never want to fix her because whatever's wrong with her is way more interesting. I wanna go look at tide pools with her even though she'd hate that because she'd much rather be alone.
4) Joy Wang from Everything Everywhere All At Once
Honestly choosing just one character from this movie is impossible, but Joy telling her mother that she's just tired is Top 10 moments of cinema that made me burst into tears. Also: she's gay. Also: she's depressed. Also: what a fucking icon. Also: her costumes.
5) Dean Winchester from Supernatural
Choosing between him and Castiel is fucking impossible but I had to follow my heart of hearts and if I had to choose I knew I had to make this choice. It is very cringe of me to shun THEE gay angel like this and I am very ashamed of myself but he would agree with me, so. I had to. Dean is simply too deeply unwell in such specific ways that I cannot resist the brain worms. Although, without destiel? He would be nothing to me.
6) Captain K.P. Hobb from Dimension 20: A Court of Fey and Flowers
Tragic furry goblin man. His pathetic devotion to a court and its values in spite of their being drastically at odds with his honorable and rigid nature has bewitched me.
7) Fi Carmichael from Planetes by Makoto Yukimura
Everytime I re-read the arc that's centered on her and her family I sob like a little kid. Also she almost died to prevent a terrorist attack just because she wanted to smoke a cigarette.
8) Cliopher Mdang from the Lays of the Hearth-Fire by Victoria Goddard
Kip my best friend Kip. He invited the Sun on Earth, God-emperor of the world, to take a vacation, and it changed the fucking world. Number one most epic secretary ever. He has 50-something cousins. I want to be invited to one meal with him so bad, I just wanna talk to him like for 5 minutes, I know he's the busiest man in the Empire and also he's not real but like. Pretty please.
9) Sam Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings
THEE holder of hope for the whole trilogy. He's in gay love with Frodo and he can't carry the ring but he can carry him. I wish to kiss his forehead.
10) Andrew Minyard from All for the Game by Nora Sakavic
It's really hard to pick one character from this insane series but I mean. I had to.

3, 6, 8, 17, 29, 32, 35, 48 💜
3. What book are you planning on reading next?
I got a book on Appalachian folklore and supernatural mysteries of the South that I am very excited to read.
6. Which book was the last one you really, really loved?
One that has stuck and I've revisited is Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory by Raphael Bob Waksburg - especially the short story We Men of Science. I gave my boyfriend a copy on our first date as a birthday present.
8. Paperback or hardcover?
Paperback. I just really prefer the way they feel.
17. If you could own a bookstore, what would you name it?
"Into the Page's"
Page was my grandfather's last name after he was adopted. I have my father's last name, which I hate, and when I was a kid I always wanted to change it to his name. His adoptive father was a biology professor and gave my grandfather his love of learning and reading, a s my grandfather did the same for me. I'd want to dedicate to him.
29. How do you sort your shelves?
By vibe is this best way to describe it. I don't have many physical copies of books because I sold most of my collection when I was a broke college kid. So I have a happy shelf (pretty much all romance with little to no conflict), a not happy shelf (tragic romances, dystopian novels, and books of essays), and a comic shelf (well loved Calvin and Hobbes collection and Avatar comics).
32. Who's your favorite fantasy author?
Admittedly fantasy is not a genre I read a lot, but the Tree of Gondor tattoo and annual extended LOTR movie marathon day tells me Tolkien is the only answer I can choose.
35. Name a book you consider to be terribly underrated.
This is so specific, but there was a novel I was assigned in high school that my entire class hated because there isn't much plot. It was The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Pretty much just an internal journey after the main character realizes how dissatisfied she is with her place in the world as a woman. It was very big to 15 year old me.
48. What is your favorite place to read?
A tree nursery five minutes from my house. I go there a lot after therapy to process or journal or just walk. There's a pond there I like to sit at and read. Sometimes write. I actually broke a two year writers block there and wrote a poem about a fallen tree I saw.

➼ ohira reon hcs!! (^▽^)
- summary: lol just headcanons about your friendly neighbourhood ohira reon. felt like making these because my blog is deprived of actual headcanons and not just scenarios under bullet form lol + no one talks about this golden boy so here we go >:]
- warnings: slightly suggestive in some parts, that's all :]
Tumblr media
- he has a slight sensitivity towards cats (or any animal with fur) but he still pets any stray domestic creature within a 15 km radius. he sees a cat on the street, he pets it. simple.
- is a pinterest addict. seriously. this boy’s screentime on any device is just that fucking app/site. shirabu and goshiki once saw him making his boards and they had to swear by their soul that no word of this shall be spoken 🗿.
- is actually kinda popular around students (mainly the girls though) because he’s considered the perfect guy. smart, athletic, kind and also very hot. everyone has a crush on him. his underclassmen have some slight favouritism towards him (´-ᴗ-`)
- used to have a very VERY hardcore harry potter phase that he never talks about because god forbid tendou learn about this (btw he's a ravenclaw and his animagus is an ox according to some quiz. its canon because i said so.)
- his favourite music genres are 70s indie and 2000s rap. although, he was a guilty pleasure for female jazz singers
- IS A FEMINIST. HE RESPECTS WOMEN!!! his momma raised him correctly so he would rather get his kidneys removed using a blunt spoon before even thinking about being misogynistic
- his childhood shows were “my gym partner is a monkey, “codename: kids next door” and “the grim adventures of billy and mandy”. sometimes, he invites tendou and yamagata to rewatch them with him
- he does the hip adjust thingy during class,,,,yeah <3
- he doesn’t really draw but he has what he likes to call a "doodle book”. it sits next to him during class so whenever he’s bored, he can just draw random shit. tendou pretends to be a doodle connoissuer and rates those doodles
- can cook really good and whoever his first date is, he’ll bring them over so he can make them a full course dinner. he’s a malewife!!!
- unironically made a deez nuts joke once and the entire team went silent. it was hell after that
- he has a very VERY strong attraction towards people with glasses. they just look so mature and sophisticated that it gets him all flustered. this one time ushiwaka put on some fake glasses when the team went to an accessory shop for funsies, and needless to say, he couldn't look him in the eyes for like 5 minutes
- shy people protector. you're shy, timid, a social mess? dont worry, he's there for you. will act as your communicator if you're afraid to speak up and will not overwhelm you.
- a BIIGGG fan of comic books. prefers the old school western ones though. think popeye, peanuts, calvin and hobbes etc
- he's not bilingual but he can comfortably have a short conversation with anyone in english. he's working on it though!!1!1
- semi tried to gaslight him into bleaching his hair once. he used an editing app to see what he would look like and ever since then, he could not sleep at night
- his favourite food aside from miso mackerel is sautéed broccoli. tendou didnt speak to him for a week after finding out....
- likes MILFs. i will not elaborate.
- has a very good skincare routine that he strictly follows. when semi asked him what his secret was, he answered "good genes" but the bastard just didnt want to share his routine with anyone
- his favourite media is the indiana jones series.
- coming back to the hc of him being really good at cooking, the girls in his class always ask him to partner with them in home economics because he's THAT good. it also adds to his charm <3
- this one time goshiki brought his old nintendo wii during game night and they started playing rhythm heaven.......reon cried when playing with tambourine monkey because he was too cute (yes, im projecting).
- he despises and i mean LOATHES uggs. he hates them so bad and everytime he sees those shits he pops a vein and starts to emotionally dissolve. he saw semi wearing them once and that was the only time he was seen insulting someone over something trivial
- "boy what the fuck are those nasty moose feet looking boots. no wonder you get no bitches. this is shiratorizawa for fuck's sake, you're either born rich or smart enough to be rich, and THIS is what we represent? you're embarrassing our school's name and tarnishing our reputation."
- semi cried to sleep that night.

For the book asks: 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 16, 22, 23, 27, 28, 33, 40, 43, 47? Thank you in advance, Books. ;)
1. What book did you last read??
"Senlin Ascends" by Josiah Bancroft. I just finished it today and there is a short review here. It turned out better than what it seemed at first, but I still don't like the mc much.
3. Do you read books just because you saw them on tumblr??
Pff no. I seldom see any on my dash that I haven't heard about before. I think booktube is the worst for me in this aspect because people are there making videos and keep selling me on stuff I never thought about reading and then I regret it.
6. Can you ever stop in the middle of a page or do you have to finish the page or chapter first??
I can. I have to. As someone that reads slowly and anywhere at any time I need to stop whenever there is a need to do something else. If I am not interrupted and the chapters are not that long I like to finish them though.
8. Do you lend your books out to friends??
Yes, if I trust them enough. Right now a friend has my copy of "Assassin's Quest" by Robin Hobb and another has "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. However, I have a back up illustrated edition of AQ and I am dreading having to let someone borrow any of the other RotE books just because I love them so much. I know it's a material thing, but I fear I will not be able to replace the books if something happens and I love them so much they are almost a part of me and I am ridiculously worried about that. That is because sometimes when I let people borrow books they come back with a bit of wear which I don't mind as long as it's not too much because I do it myself since I carry books everywhere. But sometimes I fear that they will come too damaged and it's worrying if it's one of my most favourites, you know?
9. How do you find the Booklr community??
By using the search bar? Is there even a booklr community? XD I know a total of 2 people that have specifically book blogs but most people just reblog and post whatever and it doesn't have to be books... I don't know. I have no opinion on this. If anyone wants to recommend me good book blogs around here feel free to do so.
16. What book has been on you TBR pile the longest??
This question was made to shame me. I am not sure. There are some books I bought when I was studying at the university and so far I haven't read them. "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell is one of the oldest, but I still want to read it!
22. Tell us a little about your writing.
In what way? I can say I have no focus. I have been noticing that the stories I come up with are usually influenced by what I'm reading, watching or listening to and therefore I can't stick to just one. I keep having new ideas and writing a bit for one one day and a bit for another in another day. So it goes and I finish none. I hate that. Anyways, I also like to experiment with blending genres. I feel like I will never be able to write something completelly absent of fantastical elements, but a fantasy mystery or fantasy horror and stuff like that are things that cross my mind often because I like those genres too.
I am also still trying to figure out the kind of characters that I like and all the elements I need in a story in order to be able to love it because I want to implement that in my writing. If I don't love what I come up with I will never finish it or tolerate it enough in order to reread and edit it.
23. How did you get into reading??
I think I answered something like this before... I started reading very early on. I knew how to read before starting primary school and I used and abused my library card when I got one in 1st grade. I was the kid that took a book everywhere, including family gatherings. There was a moment during high school where I didn't read much, but of course I came back to it when I started working after I got out of high school. Reading is in my blood and so is fantasy because my first stories were in that genre. A lot of fairy tales and similar stuff got me into reading as a child. That is also part of why Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen is the only portuguese writer I like so far. She wrote some fairy tale-like children's stories and I read them all at some point and I enjoyed most of them.
27. Name a book that you own starting with (Pick a letter). Have you read it?? Did you like it?? If you haven’t read it, are you looking forwards to it.
You forgot to give me a letter so... I can't help you XD
28. First book that comes to mind, tell us about it. Rant
You know if you say rant I instantly remember "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. I am still so disapointed and mad. I will never be ok. People keep putting that book in the same sentence as Farseer by Robin Hobb and comparing them and I honestly think of murder everytime that happens. It would be lovely if people stopped doing that. One is a masterpiece with a beautifully written world, great themes, amazing complex characters, lgbt+ representation and excelent female characters. The other is smut disguised as fantasy written by a cis white man and it shows. It shows a lot!
If you like this book stop now. I am not going to be nice.
I am always surprised by how many people think this is a high quality book. Some of them woke up from that fever dream and the drugs stopped having an effect after the long fairy sex scenes in the 2nd book, but some people are still into it. Look, I have no problem if you like trashy books as long as you admit that is what it is. The amount of dudebros defending this series and complaining about fairy sex Sarah J. Maas' books in the same breath is fascinating (not in a good way). It is literally the same thing (except that, according to one former fan that woke up, at least Maas is entertaining. I can't say how true that is because I don't enjoy reading porn. It just doesn't do anything for me).
I am convinced the fans enjoy it so much because of the things they imagine in their heads more than anything that is actually written in the book. My prediction is that if the 3rd book ever comes out it will disappoint the rest of the fans that the 2nd didn't disappoint already.
The characters are all Kvothe because this is Kvothe's narrative and he only thinks of himself. That is why they are so flat. That is why all the men cannot see a women without thinking about sex. They're all Kvothe, which I'll give is a complex character at least, but I absolutelly loathe him and everything that comes out of that mouth is tainted.
Stop saying the world building is original when it's just like any other fantasy inspired by medieval Europe. Stop saying the writing is beautiful when the man can't write women or romance. You think this -"Each woman is like an instrument, waiting to be learned, loved, and finely played, to have at last her own true music made." - is beautiful? Are you alright??? Blink if you need help.
Just never mention this book to me again. The sooner people read actual good books the better.
PLEASE STOP COMPARING THIS TO MY FAVOURITE BOOK SERIES. PLEASE!!! I beg you!
33. How do you organise your shelves??
I don't :D Right now I kept the portuguese books separated from the english ones more or less in alphabethical order by author. The nonfiction is separated from the fiction. Sometimes I change it though. Before I had the books I haven't read yet separated from those that I already read.
40. How do you feel when you find a typo/spelling error in a book??
Up to 3 I ignore it. More than that and I side eye the editor and I think the author should get a new one.
43. Free rant, go ahead, we all know you want to.
I already ranted about “The Name of the Wind”. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME???
Well, I’m going to go into generalisations now I guess.
Why are the most popular adult fantasy books being hyped up written by cis white men? Other people are writing books too and have been for years, but here I am finding Patricia McKillip only in 2021. Shame on you all!
Why are people so against critics of their favourite books? Why do people refuse to see flaws in their favourite books? This just in: you can see the flaws, recognize them and still enjoy the story. All is well as long as you are not advertising it as the best book of all time and flawless (Rothfuss and Sanderson fans).
We would be here the entire night. I have lots of book community related complains that no one cares about because people are not really interested in learning and branching out. That is why the most popular books have a similar story as many others, but given different names and a little bit of a make over. I also blame the publishers that insist on publishing the same thing because it sells instead of focusing on more creative works. Fantasy is getting a little better nowadays, but damn thrillers are all the same with a different cover.
47. How many books do you take when you go out??
Only 1 unless it’s too short or I am almost finishing it. If so, I also take my kobo fully charged. The kobo is really helpful in this situation because if all goes well I will never be out of books to read while I’m out.

Positive Book Tag
Tagged by @over-a-rainbow, who created this quiz <3
1. Favorite book of all time?
I should really post this tomorrow on the Glorious 25th of May, but my favourite book of all time is Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. His magnum opus. Vimes's apotheosis. It's a book that's grown up with me, and I find new appreciation for it every time I read it. It's a time travel book that doesn't get mired in paradox and science and instead grounds itself in memory and the lessons of history, it's a book about revolution that acknowledges there's a cycle, it's a book that's as much about one man as it is about a whole city, it's a book about police violence and the meaning of keeping the peace, and it touches on all these themes with masterful effortlessness and insight. The sheer brilliance of Pratchett's prose has made me cry multiple times. Definitely my favourite, I'm not sure if any book will ever beat it.
2. Favorite fictional friendship or familial relationship(can be any kind of family dynamic)?
For friendship, Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin from the Aubreyad. They're naval fiction's answer to Watson and Holmes, Kirk and Spock, at once more realistic and more eccentric than both of those examples.
For familial relationship, I think it's Harry and Thomas from the Dresden Files. Whenever they're in the same room together it's gonna be either laughs or tears, but never a dull moment.
There's also a whole host of great familial dynamics in the First Law, and the Age of Madness especially, but my favourite of those is King Orso and his mother Queen Terez. Not entirely without problems, of course - what parent-child relationship is? - but I love how they get each other, and how Orso has so much of Terez in him while also being much softer and personable. Abercrombie's done an amazing job in creating a new generation where the kids don't just feel like copies of their parents, but there are shards of their parents in them nonetheless that shine through in really interesting ways. Plus Orso's support of his mother's sexuality is chef's kiss, and one of the few times Abercrombie has brought me close to tears.
3.Favorite trope?
Probably the Battle Butler/Bodyguard & Super Intelligent Rich Kid dynamic. Artemis Fowl, Black Butler, and the Dresden Files all feature this trope and I can't get enough of it.
4. A character from a book/series you feel the most alike?
Hmmm... Probably Fanny Price from Mansfield Park. I'm vastly less pious than she is, but I completely related to her deep sense of principle - the way she completely kills the fun of the impromptu theatre is intrinsic to who she is, and it aggravates me that all the TV/film adaptations have her join in x__x; - and I totally understand her sense of duty and loyalty. As much as I dearly love Elizabeth, Catherine, Anne, and all of Austen's heroines (except Emma :P), Fanny speaks to me.
5. A pet from a book or series you would most like to have?
Mouse from the Dresden Files is an obvious choice. He's a big floofy pile of love, and what more do you need? His one goal in life is to be the best doggo he can be, and he is extremely good at it. Best boy Mouse.
6. A place from a book or a series you would like to hang out at?
Right now, it's Hogsmeade. There's no place as safe or comforting as the Three Broomsticks, and thanks to lockdown I'm absolutely dying for a decent pub lunch, with Butterbeer on tap. (I would have chosen Mac's, but Hogsmeade is cosier and you're less likely to have your lunch interrupted by world-ending shenanigans).
7. A series or author your willing to give another chance to?
Robin Hobb. I really hated the audiobook for Assassin's Apprentice, but I know I would like her books if they had better recordings. I wish I had more time/attention span so I could actually sit down and read them, but that's just not gonna happen :(
8. And the book you have liked the most so far this year?
Ahhh, this is difficult. I've read a lot of good stuff this year. Far from the Madding Crowd, The Shattered Sea trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, Troy by Stephen Fry, Maurice by EM Forster... My favourite though has got to be either Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, or Middlemarch by George Eliot. They're kind of at opposite ends of the realism scale, though, so it's extremely hard to pick a favourite.

Note
Okay, we got your opinion on everyone’s favorite candy and if they like sour things.
So, on a scale of 1-20, what is the New Moon Troupe’s level of tolerance when it comes to spicy foods?
Thanks for the ask! I actually already made this scale but with 1-10, so that's what I posted. I hope that's ok and you enjoy! - <3 Gooseless
--------------------------
Johnny: He grew up eating pretty spicy food as both his parents have a high spice tolerance and he definitely inherited it. 8.7
Ryan: I headcanon his step-mother to have made sos ti malice for him a lot as a kid and for his favourite food to be sichuan cucumber salad so he has a pretty high spice tolerance. 9
Nooshy: Not as high of a spice tolerance as her younger brother by any means as they did not grow up eating much spicy food at all. 7.8
Ash: She will put hot sauce on just about everything she can and absolutely loves spicy food. 9.2
Meena: While she enjoys spicy food and is used to eating it, she does not have as high of a spice tolerance as some of the others. 7.5
Porsha: This girl has had spicy food like twice in her life and hated it both times. 4
Buster: He would think milk is spicy, let's be honest here. He will still eat spicy food because he pretends to have a spice tolerance however, but never gets further than like three bites. 2
Eddie: He has an about average spice tolerance and has a fair bit of spicy food but it's not like his favourite. 6.6
Nana: She loves spicy food and strengthened her spice tolerance during her travels as an opera singer back in the day. 8.1
Hobbs: He doesn't love spicy foods but has gotten used to it due to working for Nana for years. 6.9
Rosita: I headcanon her to have cooked a lot as a kid and learned her family recipes from her abuela as a young kid. As she got older she began experimenting more and modifying the recipes to her taste by upping the spice level in the dishes. 7.9
Gunter: He had literally never had spicy food before meeting Rosita and so his spice tolerance is currently extremely low. But it is getting stronger. 4.2
Marcus: I headcanon him to have had like zero spice tolerance as a kid but deliberately trained himself to have one as he got older and started dating Johnny's mum (the daughter of a chef) since he was exposed to spice a ton more. 8.6
Barry: Not only does he enjoy spicy food, he also enjoys torturing Stan by stocking up their apartment with spicy food only. Barry developed a spice tolerance after getting used to Marcus's cooking. 7
Stan: The odd one out of the gang, Stan's just never liked spicy food despite all the others loving it. 4.6
Clay: He loves spicy food and is always willing to try new food that others, especially Ash, offer him. 8.5
Mrs. Crawly: Mrs. Crawly would only season things with a pinch of salt and like a flake of pepper. 2.5

20 Questions: Writer's Addition
Thank you @steelblaidd for the tag! This was fun to do. :D
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
56.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,122,771.
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Ao3 says nine, but six of them are variations of Pokemon. xD I've written for Pokemon, Miraculous Ladybug, Fablehaven, Harry Potter, Calvin and Hobbes, and a few others on various platforms.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
1. The Investigation with 3876 kudos. 2. A Good Actor with 3070 kudos. 3. Chat Got Your Back with 2142 kudos. (I did not realize this one was this far up on the list.) 4. Shipping with 2099 kudos. 5. Cheaters with 1902 kudos.
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do, but not as often as I would like to though.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably my most recent one-shot, Blanc Lie, which is a darker fic focusing on if Chat Blanc had won.
7. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Of my completed stories, I'll go with Are You Kidding Me?.
8. Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?
I haven't for Miraculous, but I do have ideas for a Miraculous and Pokemon crossover one day. :)
9. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I've gotten a handful of negative comments before, but I honestly don't pay them much attention, if someone doesn't like my story that's fine, because everyone has their own taste in stories.
One comment that always has annoyed me though was on a non-Miraculous fic, where the commenter said they didn't finish the whole fic, didn't like it, and then proceeded to explain why the story was wrong because canon had said otherwise.
Why this frustrated me was because if they had actually finished reading the story, they would have seen that the "missing" element of canon was actually included, and was one of the main aspects of the entire fic!
It was several years ago, but it's funny to look back on. xD
10. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
No.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Several times, actually, both were Pokemon stories and took place several years ago. My Amourshipping story "Memories" has been stolen twice, both times just a reposting on Wattpad. Fortunately the website took them down as soon as I reported it.
The other story that was stolen was one me and my friend had written together, a PMD fic called "Team Rival". Not only was it stolen, but the person who stole it continued writing it and even brought in another author who didn't know it was stolen. It was a longer and frustrating process to get them to take it down because they kept acting like they were in the right even though they had stolen my work.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had a handful translated. :)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes, but not with Miraculous. However I do have plans to collab on a Miraculous fic in the future. :)
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
The Love Square! LadyNoir being the best corner, of course.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
All currently published ML WIPs of mine I plan on finishing. As for WIPs I've started but I haven't posted there are two that stand out:
Soulmate Seer: This was an AU where only certain people can see red strings of fate, Alya being one of them. This fic would have been from her POV, and I had the world fully developed and a basic plot line planned out, but I don't know if I'll ever finish or post it.
Aladdin AU: An AU based loosely off of Disney's Aladdin, with Marinette taking on Aladdin's role and Adrien's with Jasmine's role. I had a lot of the world planned out, including how the kwamis were tied in to everything, but I haven't had motivation to work on it for a long time.
16. What’s your writing strengths?
World building and character building. Backstory, lore, all the small details... it's just so much fun! I always find myself going way in depth when planning these kinds of things out, even if it's not central to the plot, and it's a lot of fun, and I'm usually very happy with what I come up with.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Pacing, and by extension, flow. I have a lot of ideas but sometimes I find myself lingering too long on one scene, or trying to put a transition where it doesn't work, or having fics turn out way longer than I thought they would be (looking at you, Withered Wings), or having parts of the plot that are rushed when I look back at them.
18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?
I like including other languages, especially when it makes the most sense for the character. Like in "Crimson and Noire" I have Master Fu's use Chinese for his transformation phrases and to activate his powers, because I imagine that's what he's been saying his entire life, and I don't think it would make sense for him to switch to French after 100+ years just to transform, especially when it isn't necessary for those around him to know what he's saying.
19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Pokemon! :D
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
How am I suppose to only chose one???????
Overall, probably Crimson and Noire, as I put a lot of time and effort into planning it, it's going to be my longest fic ever, and it includes a lot of elements I've always wanted to use in an ML fic.
Honorable mentions would be my Waiting series, United, and Withered Wings.

Review: Hannibal
This show has been a rollercoaster and not in a good way. I’ll come right out and say it: I hate this show. I came into it totally fresh; I had heard people liked it and knew absolutely zero about it. I haven’t even seen Silence of the Lambs. I’m fresh off Death Stranding so I was getting really curious about Mads Mikkelsen and I can totally see the influence. Some of the scenes where Mads is slicked up with inky black liquid look straight out of the game. The story however is a total mess. Now, whether this is because Bryan Fuller’s intentions were dashed (the whole 5 seasons thing) or if there was something else at play. I can’t be sure, but what I do know is that even if you can’t fulfil your vision, that doesn’t mean you just do whatever and throw caution to the wind. You’re still telling a narrative and if you go rogue then everyone will know it.
So let’s start back with season 1. Probably the most classic of the show. I started by, of course, watching the pilot. Instead of reshooting the first episode, Hannibal decides to go straight from it’s pilot to the show. Which in and of itself isn’t a problem, except there are quite a few inconsistencies that just aren’t addressed. Will’s classroom and the design of Hannbal’s office are notable examples. Also, they flat out say Will has Asperger's which the show ultimately sweeps under the rug for whatever reason. The story plays out pretty cleanly in season 1. Now, I wanted to quit watching after the first few episodes because it was too high art.  The imagery didn’t make much sense and this wasn’t really my type of show. Seeing Will fall for Hannibal’s tricks and getting placed in jail in season 2 really started to peak my interest and I proclaimed that it finally had my attention. Unfortunately, half way through season 2, Will is released from jail and the show completely spins wildly out of control from that point on. After Will works with another serial killer to get Hannibal killed while in jail, he is suddenly befriending Hannibal once he gets out. We learn that he has a big plan to try to ensnare Hannibal, but it all feels empty and even as a viewer, I simply know that it is just a shit plan. All reason goes out the window as the show tries to tell me that careful Hannibal who tortured Will and put him in jail through season 1 and most of 2 is now just spilling his guts to his protégé. Also, the show wants me to believe that Will is considering running away with big H because he is just as enamored, as if I didn’t see this man struggle with every fiber of his tortured soul to not become Garrett Jacob Hobbs.
All of this leads up to the blood match of the century at Hannibal’s house where the plan, duh, goes awry. This is where the worst season of all, season 3, certified fresh 98% on Rotten Tomatoes comes in like a flaming pile of garbage on a train. We whisk away to Europe and don’t give a fuck about following up on all our bloodied main characters we’ve grown to care about in two seasons. Suddenly the few ‘smart’ characters who speak in riddles multiplies to the point where not a single character isn’t speaking in code when talking to one another. Alana even gets this fucking insane line where she says bone marrow got in her blood stream so now she thinks differently. It’s insane. The only saving grace is Jack and that’s only because he’s the only consistent character throughout the show. He has a clean narrative and understandable motives. He’s the only character the script didn’t treat like an amorphous blob that changes on it’s whim as if it were Zeus having a bad hair day. After Hannibal is captured, the show dips down to a slow descent to it’s ending. It once again tries to make me question Will’s loyalty while simultaneously giving me no plot to support any major changes and just telling me that he’s changed right before he does. It’s totally asinine. I had pretty much shut completely down by the last 3 episodes. I think it’s borderline hilarious that the show honestly wants me to think that baiting the Dragon with Hannibal is the ONLY viable option to catch him. They don’t even consider any other possibilities. It’s just lazy. Let the whole show go over the cliff for all I care.
And all of this isn’t even getting in to how atrociously this show treats women. Alana Bloom starts as being the only person in Will’s corner who they force to be his love interest in one of the most un-sexually charged scenarios I’ve ever seen. They then, completely against character, make her Hannibal’s love interest for what I thought was an alibi, but I guess was genuine and again, not set up in the slightest. As previously mentioned, she does a 180 due to some bone marrow and is then a lesbian for another grotesque sex sequence that they just seem to love making her star in for pseudo prime time pornography. I mean, I guess I’m happy she ends up married with a kid? Beverly Katz is separated and pinned up like a museum display because she just happened to be smart. Every character hates Freddie Lounds and the show obviously wants you to hate her too, but when you think about it, why? What has she done other than be a strong independent woman who is chasing a career in the gruesome and trying to tell what she believes is the truth when other’s sweep the severity under the rug. The show hates her so much that if you start to break it down and remove her character from the show, the plot literally doesn’t change. She exists to be a punching bag. The only saving grace about Bella is the fact that her passing doesn’t push Jack’s story along at all, but her choice of passing was not only taken away by a man, it was then decided on a date not of her choosing by another. She has not a single bit of autonomy, even while being presented as a strong woman. Abigail Hobbs seems interesting enough, but in reality she’s nothing more than a way for Will and Hannibal to process their emotions and surrogate dad feelings onto. She is then “killed” off and, surprise, brought back only to be killed off again, only to BE BROUGHT BACK to find out she was a dead figment of Will’s fucked up imagination. Margot Verger is one of the most appalling examples of how this show treats women in the fact that she is not only sexually and physically abused, but she is also sterilized. Then, in season 2, when you think she finally can exact her revenge on her brother since he is rendered invalid, you find in season 3 that she did none of that, continued to let him torture her until someone else come’s down like a savior angel, Hannibal, and gives her the way she absolutely could have done herself to give her an out. The show literally wants me to believe that both Margot and Alana could not have considered the path to freedom without Hannibal’s help. They want you to believe these are not capable women because the show doesn’t believe women are. Unless it’s plot necessary, but only for that long. Du Maurier was smart enough to leave before Hannibal went to kill her in season 2, but for some reason in season 3 she comes back willingly to let him take her and torture her. Then she, I GUESS, cooks her leg up for him to visit as one of the final scenes of the show!?!!? Chiyoh was locked up for 20 years, supposedly, because she couldn’t leave behind the man who killed Hannibal’s sister, and when she is finally free, her whole character revolves around her being a good shot and wanting to help Hannibal because ??????? It makes absolutely no sense. Then, season 3 went ahead and went we need a woman who is blind to the fact that her partner is a serial killer, might as well make her blind for real. It’s repulsive, disgusting, and I don’t know why anyone enjoys this drivel.
Verdict:
Tumblr media
P.S. my favorite character is Chilton. He’s one of the two consistent characters (hey, Jack!) and the fact that he just keeps getting brutally mutilated,  but can’t stay away from serial killers is downright pathological. He also shined so brightly in the scene just before he gets shot through the mouth in the interrogation room. I never would have guessed I’d be rooting for him. I was actually worried when the Dragon caught him, but there’s no squashing that cockroach of a man!

oops i finished this book 2 or 3 weeks ago~
The Mad Ship Question Time:
1. What were your favorite moments?
Wintrow embarrassing Sa’Adar by being the more clever speaker
Althea at the Trader meeting
Cerwin Trell being a doofus while trying to court Malta
Malta and Keffria getting ready for Malta’s presentation
Kennit’s secret island
This was a dreadful moment, but the drowning of the Ringsgold was intense and interesting. Hobb was pretty skillful to make the humans insignificant to the serpents, but still make me empathize with the humans’ horror.
Paragon getting back in the water
Malta and Amber’s conversation
Etta learning to read and Wintrow learning to fight. And Kennit just being an absolute left-field weirdo for the whole process.
Wintrow freeing She Who Remembers
Malta realizing that romantic relationships do not have to be built on hostility! She begins to see the truth about her father. It hurts her, but she still takes the kinder, warmer path.
Selden coming alive as a character. Poor kid was just as stifled as Malta in Bingtown.
Malta drowning in memories.
Malta being very over the Satrap’s whiny antics in Trehaug, plus her surprise over how much she knows about boats.
2. Favorite quotes?
Ugh, I took pictures of favorite passages this time, but they’re so buried in my other notes that I can’t find them. I really like quotes from these books!
3. Did the reread change your opinion of the book? In what way?
Wintrow’s sincere support of Kennit felt weird on a reread. I can see him buying into Kennit’s persona eventually, but because Hobb wrote it from Kennit’s POV, it was very out-of-the-blue. I wish we got a little more of Wintrow’s perspective in raided Divvytown.
I guess I willfully forgot how Serilla was treated on the trip to Bingtown. I had completely convinced myself that the Chalcedean captain treated her kindly. Frankly, I don’t know that this storyline is necessary. I think Hobb handles things okay. We understand Serilla’s nightmare situation without it getting exceptionally graphic and her lingering trauma makes a lot of sense. But I still hate it. It’s good to acknowledge that these things happen, especially in a such a misogynist society. I just don’t know if I can feel okay about it. It’s such a brutal experience. I’ll wait to see how things go in book 3 I guess.
Also, I forgot Tintaglia is freed in this book. Like that’s wild! We have a whole book left with a dragon on the loose.
