all the while society conflates "being an adult" with "having a proper job" and "having money to make arbitrary Adult Purchases" disabled people who can't work - or can only work part time or can only do entry level baby jobs - will never be 'allowed' to be adults
you can say "being an adult is looking after yourself you don't have to have a job!!!" all you want but most people who say that will still assume anybody who doesn't either can't or won't 'look after themselves' actually. and every 'marker' of 'adulthood' that's observable and thus actually counts or whatever loops back around to... having a job and 'contributing' something

it's about the journey from little ghost (derogatory) to little ghost (affectionate)
spotify / youtube
of course i have a playlist for the oc ship from this book that rots my brain! naturally!
ship manifesto:
rivals to lovers | sparkly mercenary x stoic assassin | snarky banter | boys with Issues | 'oh shit i have feelings' | knife threats as a love language | acting like exes before they even kiss | 'you're an idiot' 'i'm your idiot' | sunshine chaos man x grumpy violent one | 'i'd rather have you than revenge'
Valloroth taglist: @cherrybombfangirlwrites @memento-morri-writes @foxboyclit @lawful-evil-novelist @at-thezenith @morganwriteblr @fayeiswriting (ask to be added/removed!)

oh my god the drunken love confessions I love them all 😭😭💞
but my favourite was ”Don't tell my sober me that I told you I love you. It was a secret.” 🥺
I loved that one as well and I really really want to use it in a fic 🥺😭💞 I can so easily imagine Olli saying that as Aleksi is helping him back to bed 🥰 he thinks he's being sneaky and Aleksi just smiles trying not to freak out (he has to wait until Olli is asleep and maybe even whisper back his own confession 🥺)

Reminder that I sell writing and editing commissions. Very few topics are off-limits including but not limited to common themes of contention like excessive gore/torture, underage, "weird" kinks like inflation, and niche interests.
Also, a reminder that I am not limited to only creative writing and am happy to edit or write for you a technical piece; whether it be an article, a bureaucratic email to someone who owes you money, a professional and concise document of rules or guidelines for a company/chatroom/etc., and any other technical work. Technical writing commissions do cost more but trust me when I say I'm the man for the job. I have lengthy experience with helping people write things for negotiations, making a point, helping edit and proofread research papers, etc.

Fuck, getting married makes taxes three times more difficult. Only ended up getting like $250 more than I would have on my own at the end of it, too.

so as per prev tags i read A Sensory Experience of Metal and Other Metal and having finished it i basically think what i said before but more so: i thought certain things abt it were vividly diverting and delightful and other things were really very sketchily penciled in!
in some ways i do think the biggest thing that's stood out to me abt the various m/m books by, uh, fandom-nurtured authors that i've read lately-ish (thinking vaguely of FM and, uh, other FM here, in addition to op. previously cit.) is how mediocre their female characters have imo been—in some ways that's to be expected bc supporting characters in romance are very often mere ciphers, and if both members of your central pairing are men, then, well... but i do feel like people could be briefly sketched and still feel realer and more like there's a logic of their own to them, beyond just Necessary NPC? like, i have some issues with both heyer and sayers (antisemitism foremost among these) but both of them managed to make it feel as though their romances were happening within the context of a believable society populated by believable bit characters (sayers' artist lesbians!).
(as per prev post also some thoughts abt what gets fleshed out vs what's just wooden set dressing in general, and some wondering abt the extent to which a fannish apprenticeship tends to encourage those flaws, but those i think i more or less covered in prev tags, if somewhat incoherently/inconclusively.)

The thing about working in civil rights is you need an optimist's heart and a pessimist's instincts.
I've got the first part down. Hope has always come easily to me. I believe that people are fundamentally good, just misguided in various ways or misdirected by institutional forces that don't have their best interests at heart. I think prejudice is mutable and while eradicating it is challenging, the successes outweigh the losses. Solidarity is the strongest force available, and the real fight is making those commonalities obvious and meaningful.
The second part is where I struggle, and that's the bit that the field is demanding at the moment. We're actively losing ground and the most recent Supreme Court term was a bloodbath. I'm in meetings where we're talking about folks from Florida as potential refugees. There are abortion pills in my fire safe. We don't know what happens when circuit courts and states try to implement all this bad case law.
I feel like I'm missing something obvious that would tell me how to focus and get things done in this climate.
