i kept going back and forth on if this would be an appropriate thing to post, but i feel like this is another thing that a lot of people should know regarding the situation, especially since all the things i've seen are only visible to the notes of my post that i feel like others need to be aware of.

so since making my post about the no-fly list situation, ive honestly received almost nothing but people absolutely agreeing with it. other than the first reply of that post being someone who called me anti-american, which i deleted, all the notes have been very civil, open, and completely appreciative of what i wrote, and especially it seems like it's given people a lot more respect for both maia and the targeted people of the list.

ive seen people talk about maia's identity and how important it is to acknowledge that what it is was also correlated to what it did. a lot of people being supportive of maia's personal labels and saying that it doesnt matter what you think of them but whats important is what it did. even someone who said they didn't like maia for being a bi lesbian said they appreciated the effort it took to do what it did.

there's a fair amount of tags on the post from people who had their own, or similar experiences related to the list, or general discrimination when it comes to travel. one person who had a japanese teacher who was on the list for protesting the vietnam war. one whos dad was flagged during screening because of his muslim+indian name. one who had a friend whos been on the list since 4 years of age, meanwhile none of their other family is on the list, because they were the only one with an arabic name.

there were people in the notes who were muslim themselves, some not from america aswell, who had very little info even about the list, and when reading about it were absolutely shocked by what was found, but also grateful for its discovery, probably even feeling a lil safer knowing that there is someone who cares about them enough to do something that many, many people wouldnt.

today, someone who was on anon sent a message in my inbox, saying that they appreciated my post for very personal reasons. out of respect i wont share it, but one particular part of it that stood out, among the other details, and something that many, many people in the post notes have been saying is that my post was their exact thoughts on the situation that they couldnt put into words the same way i did.

i think theres another important thing that people are missing about the no-fly situation. something i've seen myself, which many people will completely discouraged and say it's dangerous.

you should not be scared to talk about and have opinions on things you care about. because if you cared about them, then it doesn't matter what others think of you. if you say an opinion and you lose a friend over it, that's their decision. you lose family over it, that's their decision. you lose followers/subscribers/supporters over it, that's their decision. it's everyones decision to do what they feel depending on the reactions they have to what you say. there is nothing you can do about it. there is nothing you can do about someone disagreeing with you. and that's okay.

it's okay if you lose a friend, a family member, and supporters. it's okay if they disagree with you. it's okay that they don't want to be around you anymore. because then that means you can be happy. that means you are finally getting room to be who you are and have no one around to tell you otherwise, to tell you that they think youre wrong and deserve to be left alone.

as time goes on, you'll gain people who will care about you again. who agree with your opinions and agree with who you are. people that want to let you know they value your opinion and will keep you in a space with others like you. by then it won't matter what or who is against you. all that will matter is that youve given yourself a new start. a new area to be free and not worry about those who go against you.

it's okay to show that you care about people. that you want the best for them. that you want the world to be a better place. it's okay for you to surround yourself with those who will respect you and care about what you have to say. it's okay that you've formed opinions based around you and others experiences. that's okay. you're okay.

learn to care about yourself. to care about people who are like you and have been through what you have. to listen to others and understand where theyre coming from. you dont know them and they dont know you. and learn to stand up for yourself. be open about what you believe in. dont be afraid of who wont like you. of who will threaten to leave or hurt you for what you think. your opinions and what you have to say are important. you are important. as important as everyone who is similar to you and thinks what you think. you will never lose that.

to people who are also in LGBT+ like maia, i'm glad you have someone to look up to. to the muslim, indian, arabic, hispanic, japanese, chinese, korean, russian, ukrainian, and many others out there, i'm glad you know just how much people care about you and want you to be happy.

and to the anon, i won't post your ask. but i will keep it with me out of joy that i've made you feel comfortable.

My top 7 movies of 2022

Hey folks! Its that time again! That day youve all been waiting for. That day of the year when I talk about movies I`ve seen and rank them according to my own personal taste and bias! Like 2020 and 2021, 2022 was another year where I decided to play it safe and keep away from the cinemas. So this is my "The movies that I planned to see in cinema in 2022 but watched on DVD instead" list.

7: Thor: Love and thunder There is a difference between not taking things too serious and not taking things serious enough. Thor Ragnarok is the former, Love and thunder is the latter. Sometimes bathos can work and sometimes it is even quite welcome. Its a matter of how it is used, where it is placed and how often it is used. But bathos aside theres also some tonal inconsistency and in the climax a character pulls out an eleventh hour superpower that should have been forshadowed earlier in the movie. Good work from Hemsworth and Bale though, and I like that they gave Portman more to do in this one. Didnt like it as much as Ragnarok but its better than Iron man 2.

6: Death on the Nile Monsieur Hercule Poirot (and his little grey cells) travels to Egypt where he meets his old friend Bouc and is soon forced to solve a murder mystery on a boat travelling on the Nile. Feels similar to Murder on the Orient Express but not quite as memorable. Visually good looking and we get a tragic origin story for why Poirot has a moustache. Yes, Poirot`s moustache has a tragic origin story.

5: Black Panther: Wakanda forever T'Challa passes away, his sister Shuri is left picking up his mantle and the Kingdom of Wakanda is under pressure from other nations to share their vibranium, some even try to take it by force. And as if things werent tough enough already for the royal family of Wakanda they are also being attacked by the forces of Atlantis. It cant be easy to make a movie when the main star dies. I wonder how much had to be changed because of Bosemans passing. Letitia Wright has said some dumb things in real life but here she delivers a good performance, so I cant really complain here. Cant complain about Tenoch Huertas performance either, a guy who flies around in swimming trunks with wings on his feet could easily have gotten silly but he makes it work. The movie is good but doesnt have quite the same WOW feeling that I got from the first one. A result of Boseman`s passing, or is it just hard to make magic happen again? Worth checking out.

4: Turning red Meilin "Mei" Lee, a confident over-achiever, has a good life and is doing well at school until she turns thirteen and has to deal with puberty and turning into a giant red panda everytime she gets excited. Not the next Ratatouille or Inside out, nor does it have to be. It`s fun, enjoyable and feels like a story someone wanted to tell.

3: Top Gun: Maverick Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, now working as a testpilot, is given the job of training an elite group of Top Gun graduates in a mission to destroy an uranium enrichment plant before it becomes operational. Old memories come back to haunt him when he discovers that one of his students, Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, is the son of his deceased best friend "Goose". Yes, it is pretty much a feature length recruitment ad for the U.S. Air force, but that aside, a lot of care and effort was put into this movie. For instance the scenes where the pilots are in their cockpits were made by having the actors delivering their performances while being in real planes that flew for real. The G-force that you see on their faces is the real thing. There`s a lso a touching scene where Maverick is reunited with Iceman. The movie uses nostalgia here and there but nevere so much that it becomes a crutch. Worth a watch.

2: Nope One day, metal objects start to rain over the Haywood ranch where Otis Haywood, together with his son Otis Jr., trains and handles horses for film productions. One of the metal objects hits and kills Otis Sr. Six months later Otis Jr. (O.J.) is forced to sell some of his horses to Ricky "Jupe" Park who runs a western theme park called "Jupiters Claim". And as if thing werent bad enough, a UFO shows up and starts stealing some of the other horses from the Haywood ranch. O.J and his sister decide to put up cameras to document and sell evidence of the UFO's existence, but soon discover that getting the UFO in front of a camera is not gonna be that easy. Nope is an interesting movie. It sets up a mystery and gradually reveals more of it at the plot progresses, and some the reveals are not what youd expect. But it also brings up not only black peoples contributions to the cinema but also how those contributions have been silenced. Like when one of the characters talk about "Animal locomotion", a sequence of pictures, published in 1887, depicting a black man riding a horse. Like many great Horror movies before it, its horror with some social commentary.

And now… Drumroll please. My number one pick for 2022 iiis…

1: Everything everywhere all at once Evelyn Wang, a chinese american running a laundromat with her husband Waymond is being audited by the IRS, her marriage is failing and her relationship with her gay daughter could have been much better. Suddenly her husband becomes possessed by an alternate version of himself and tells her that she needs to stop a great multidimensional threat. This movie is crazy, absurd and completely sincere. Its a martial arts movie, a Sci-fi and a family drama. It balances and juggles many things, is incredibly silly but not in a way that undercuts the sincere, serous and heartfelt moments. Yes, once again, feels are my kryptonite but its not just that. Its that it combines all these crazy things AND knows how give me the old feels. It teaches us the importance of being kind. Especially when we dont know what`s going on.

Aand those are the movies I watched in 2022.

Hey, saw your post asking about sources.

I don't know where you can find unbiased news esp at the beginning of a conflict and with Western media having a clear incentive to be biased towards Israel regardless of their words or deeds. That said these are the sources I find helpful: I recommend reading from aljazeera and following ppl who are in the ground of Gaza or closely tied so ppl like eid Yara, wizard_bisan1, motaz azaiza, and plestia etc.

I also recommend looking at communication coming from people biased towards Israel to understand how they communicate, what propoganda is disseminated and, by combining it with information youve verified, how to contextualize any potentially true information mixed in with the lies. It's also helpful because these sources will invite knowledgeable Palestinian or Pro-palestinian figures to interview. Even when they treat these figures with disrespect and try to prevent them from actually speaking, you'll catch something and find another source of information. You can do this with any media that has some kind of a reputation in the West(i.e BBC and Cnn) but you can also look at Haaretz and communication coming from israeli army or political figures.

An example of where this would be helpful is noticing where CNN Says "11000+ killed according to *Hamas controlled* health ministry" but finding out that the so called *hamas controlled* health officials are the Gaza ministry of Health who receive no funding from hamas, have been cited as an authority for information coming out of Gaza for years prior to this genocide, and have been noted by the UN as having a reporting accuracy within 4% even during times of conflict when it is difficult to understand the true number of direct deaths.

Another example might be finally seeing the list of murdered Israeli people from Oct 7th provided by the Israeli government to Haaretz and noticing that 1/3+ of them are military.

But these are just my thoughts. I hope it's helpful!

you weren’t exactly accepted on earth the moment you got there

but it wasn’t long before the avengers spotted you

“state your name and your business here” -tony

“wait, stark, just a moment! are you a [alien species]?” -thor

“...my name is y/n, i had nowhere else to go. and yes, i am [alien species]”

i mean, this would be much cooler if the avengers hadn’t already had a bad run-in with the chitauri army

but at least you weren’t trying to destroy any part of earth

“why don’t you come with us for a while? you might be safer in our custody” -cap

you were very uncomfortable with that, but you believed that whatever you were running from couldn’t get you if you stayed with “earth’s mightiest heroes”

and that you were...sort of

the bounty hunters that were on your trail, they didn’t know much about the avengers

so they were dumb enough to strike first

luckily, the avengers took a liking to you

“this is for messing with our new friend!” -tony as he straight up fries one of these goons

you seemed to fight well with them

it made them want to keep you around more than they wanted clint

I just read a great fic by aisthuu "every love story is a ghost story", didn't see it in your recs so wanted to recommend it! LWJ is a guqin composer and teacher, buys a cheap guqin off eBay which ends up being attached to WWX's spirit from canon era. It's bittersweet, LWJ deals with Lan's homophobia (implicit in a Lan way) and his feelings towards the ghost. This is author's only ao3 fic and honestly I don't remember how I stumbled upon it, but I'm happy I did and hope you will enjoy it too! [I’ve recently read this one, and loved it!]

Ok so I absolutely have to rec "see you yesterday" by glyphic. It's a wip, but it's currently at 101k so there's a whole lot there, and it's terrible and wonderful and beautiful all at once. The way the backstory of canon events is adapted to the modern-with-cultivation setting is brilliant, and then there's the amnesia, and then there's the time loop. This fic lives permanently rent-free in my brain.

It's the only thing that gave me joy during 2020 😆 like proper belly laughs and disney villain style cackling. It is a wip, and it is long but so so worth it!! The author has reworked the entire canon through these message crystals and still conveys complex characters despite the tricky format. It's just so good!! Modern/BTD verse!!

Jilly- Ferret beastkin little creature, was recently turned into a werewolf by vincent as well so she's running around on full moons in a wereferret wolf hybrid creature form. Chaotic and friendly and wants to be everyone's bestie. She has the most energy in the world and is very kind hearted. Banned from most Claires for stealing and from one Home Depot for climbing the shelves. Prone to living life with rose colored glasses on and seeing the best in everything/everything even when there's nothing there. Socialization is a must for her and is why being basemented/kidnapped broke her psych so quickly and developed severe stockholm. Sometimes overly talkative/enthusiastic and can scare people off. Even if she sees someone shes decided shes friends with be noticeably 'evil', will convince herself it must be for some reason/her fault and ignore it.

Ciggy- Undead punk still learning to harness his powers to interact with the world as a ghost. Was sacrificed by a cult he joined for free concert tickets and to get laid. Likes to cause problems on purpose both pre and prior death and he's not above possessing someone once he learns how to. Was called Rooster in high school before he dropped out because he's loud, obnoxious and always screaming. And also has bright red dyed hair. Looking 4 ways to become less ghosty bcs he wants to be able to help raise his infant daughter, whom he died before he could meet. Bit annoying and in your face, likes poking at bruises, his or others. Kind of a sad heart seeking attention through volume and persistence.

Mike: Vampire loser! Sells drugs and lives at raves. Was turned when she was attacked by a coked out vampire (whom she supplied the product to) and has major scarring on her face and chest. Needs a somewhat constant influx of blood so shell sometimes take victims back to her place and chain them up, slowly draining them over time. Feels bad (ish) about it tho so it is possible to survive her if you are nice and or interesting enough. Kind of desperate for a friend and for love. Is a stalker. If she likes you enough/finds you interesting, she might just appear in your house one night and start rummaging through your fridge like nothing is wrong and youve been besties for years. Its best to indulge her and be friendly, otherwise she could turn violent quickly if her feelings are hurt.

Kilaine- Regular human woman, but fucked up. Born and raised by an elite waspy society she had an interest in the human body and pain tolerance since she was young. Quickly learned that these traits were socially unacceptable in most professions, so she became a doctor. The only family she cared about was her younger sister who she lost in a car accident, where they were flipped over and trapped inside while it was afire. While her sister burned up in front of her Kilaine only lost her left arm and had major burns on her body. This tipped her descent into sadism and she is now madly obsessed with bringing her sister back no matter the cost. Rude and offstandish, clinical.

Dragon age verse!

Thurwen- My main Hero of Ferelden with a bad temper and a heart of gold. City elf from the Denerim Alienage, 18 at the start of origins. She's a reaver warrior with a lot of pent up rage which sometimes scares others when she lets it out in battle. Over the years she's grown less moody as she's had to take the role of Commander. Crude sense of humor and violent impulses, very sensitive to the plights of others and tries often to help. Never seen crying in public but only cries to herself at night- major martyr and hanged man complex.

Caz- My circle mage elf inquisitor who was an apostate before the conclave. Blood magic, but make it sneaky. Wary of strangers and new faces, always dealing with the impulse to flee/find a high vantage point. Endless curiosity about the unknown/ the forbidden/ naughty, was supposed to be made tranquil for it but she escaped. Kind of a little creature as well, lived on her own for a while as an apostate in the woods, filed her teeth down to sharp ends to make herself look more intimidating (shes 5 ft tall) and less cute (her elf ears are huge and expressive, which shes embarrassed about)

Dag and Thagna- Carta twins! Professional lyrium smugglers since birth pretty much. Raised casteless in dust town and had to work their way up the chain of command by themselves. Dag is the brother, Thagna the sister. Their father traded them to the carta for drinking money and their mom died in childbirth so they have somewhat of a codependent relationship. Both charismatic and calculating, friendly and agreeable but won't hesitate to put a dagger in your back. Hard to pin down morally or physically, squirrelly bastards.

Reila: Dalish elf who works for the inquisition/ is the inquisitor in some aus. She has an extreme fixation on elvhen history and rebuilding what they have lost. Not a people person, prefers solitude. Takes some time to warm up to shemhlen as she has a hard history with them. Good friends with Caz, who recruited her in the first place. Doesn't understand very many social cues and finds societal expectations limiting and frustrating. Fondness for halla and hooved animals, which she finds graceful.

Elder scrolls verse!

Valkya: Near seven foot nord woman whos over a thousand years old by the events of skyrim. Tall and buff, two handed warrior and compulsive hero there to bask in the spotlight save the day. She was killed at the start of the events of Elder scrolls online and had her soul ripped out and sent to coldharbor and she's just been a pain in the ass about it since then. Her body can physically die and will not regrow pieces. Her soul however will escape and teleport to the nearest source of power where her body will regrow from an aetherial plasm until its whole again. Loud and brash, friendly and jovial. Actually pretty keen especially after centuries of life but prefers to play dumb as it makes people underestimate her. Plus, she really does enjoy mud wrestling and drinking contests and acting generally like a rambunctious frat boy. Ha developed a bit of a substance problem and a problem with acting out, as after being alive so long she would turn to anything to dull the ache inside of her that never goes away.

Espira- My Dragonborn! Redguard from Hammerfell who was briefly in the Ash’abah due to killing undead while protecting her parents water farm as a child. Ran away from them after years and went to Cyrodille, then to Skyrim and was caught crossing the border. Reserved, kind and soft spoken, she's a sword and shield warrior who's committed herself to doing good in the world by helping others. Dislikes killing and anything messy but believes it is often necessary in order to protect the weak. She blacksmiths often to save money on the upkeep of her own equipment, and takes up metal jewelry working as a hobby with the excess material. Prone to trusting others too much and giving too many second chances, as shes always looking for ways to make even the most hardened criminal a second look at life.

Riley- Espiras little brother who she locked in the wardrobe during the event of the water farm attack. In preventing him from doing violence against the undead she kept him from being conscripted into the Ash’abah. He's way more chaotic than his sister, and suffers from a case of little sibling syndrome in which he will often pester/poke at people just to get a rise out of them. Still kind hearted as his sister, he tries to hide it because he believes that the world is a cruel place and the cruel survive. Despite that belief he is often still unable to force himself to be cruel/careless, only making a show of it so that others leave him alone and don't see that he's very sensitive and emotional. Deaf in one ear due to a magic mishap in his youth, he trained and enchanted his most beloved rats to live for years and sit on his shoulder, alerting him to noises he would not otherwise notice.

Felria: Evil vamp :/ chaotic evil dunmer necromancer. Small and devilish and likes dead bodies too much. Manipulative and cunning, she loves acting. She's a trained assassin for the dark brotherhood and is the speaker. Likes dressing up for missions and wearing disguises like its all a play. Loves toying with people more than she loves killing them, will act in ways that cause as much trauma as possible for other people just for fun and she finds the reactions interesting. Considers herself too far removed from most people's perception of morality and of her so it's hard for her to trust someone or see them as worthy of knowing her. Finds the psychology of grief and fear to be interesting and wants to study them first hand. The hero of kvatch.

Herren: Fifty something year old rat woman looking for something to keep her going. Ran away from her wealthy family in her youth when they wanted her to take charge of the household, instead became an infamous jewel thief and swashbuckler. Spent most of her life traveling and stealing and double dealing. She's smarmy and sarcastic, a serial romancer of the highest caliber. Bit of a show off and a hedonist, always looking for the next good party or new product to snort. Her family died off due to the hard times she wasn't there for and she keeps looking for bigger and bigger heists to fill her appetite as she's chronically bored and lonely, though wont accept intimacy and will scoff at it out of the belief she doesn't deserve it. Irresponsible and selfish, lonely and terrified of any sort of commitment. Fun to party with though!

i. so . Hiatus .

i know. i know . i probably mentioned it when i made the announcement post, but my mental health likes to go on one of those rides. yknow the ones where you go like up rlly fast then down maybe and then up then DOWN .... its like that. i needed a break and every time i wanted to come back or thought about it, something would happen and i would get stuck in my own head.

a big reason for getting stuck in my head was (and i hate to admit this ... i hate to admit that i have Insecurities On The Internet) my feelings of inadequacy regarding my writing. i love to plot fics, i love concepts and characters and making little headcanons but i dont ... know if i love writing rn. and i thought for the longest time that like . whatever ill just push thru it its fine ill be fine but it kinda wasnt lmao you can kinda see it in my halloween reqs and what become of them when i get to that but i began to feel like nothing i had put out or would put out would hold up prose wise (and normally i dont feel like this im much more “idc its my life im living it” but thats not a rant for tumblr LMAO). i still feel like that -- like im better as a reader than a writer. but . You Know :-)

when i left, i was in a steadily decreasing mental and emotional state, made worse by a situation at work that really was a case of petty jealousy on my end and rlly isnt very consequential now despite how much pain and resentment it gave me when it Was a problem so i wont get into it. the tl;dr of november and december was me using work as an crutch and distraction -- i know my job, i do it well, it helped me not think about my responsibilities and obligations and inadequacies. of course, as the holiday season grew busier n busier i was scheduled so often that i moved 88 or so miles (according to my apple watch, which i ONLY wear at work since im never anywhere else outside my house) and fell into a cycle of showering n sleeping at my house before going back the next day. (theres definitely something to be said abt capitalism and “grind culture” here but once again its not the time or place snsjkdfds)

at the turn of the new year, i happened to remember a birthday card i hadnt filed away for safekeeping from a friend of mine that id been horribly out of touch with til that point. i started crying because i realized how out of touch id been in general up until that point. the month of january was great for me: i was focused, happy, and in a much better place than i had been before. the end of it brought me down focus wise and im hoping that enough time away from my distractions will refocus me bc i ... need it LMAO and though ive burned out from that level of productivity and gotten distracted again im ... trying to stay positive which i think is the most i can do 😁👍🏼

media wise, i got real into stardew valley (but burned out bc i played it extensively as a way to wind down after work), the pokemon platinum romhack renegade platinum (still havent finished it bc of school n i played it w the intent to see if i could nuzlocke it ... bitch its so hard but its so fun bc of it), briefly assassins creed: odyssey (im one of those ppl who completes an entire region before i move to the next so you can tell i burned out of that one + wouldnt have the time to properly devote to it even if i didnt), got back into genshin impact after pulling for xiao (after not touching it for like . months), and danganronpa. yes . danganronpa 😐 i Know. i stopped playing it after the second trial of the first game bc i was so hurt by the outcome and picked it up in late january only to get sucked in (thank god i had the foresight to buy the second and third games during the steam winter sale). rn im at the start of chapter 4 if anyone wants to come in my asks and um . talk to me abt danganronpa

iii. you realize halloween was three months ago right

i mentioned this in the first section, but i love to plot things. every request is plotted or at least has a solid foundation. i had fun detailing what concept i wanted to go with considering what i was given, and there were some bangers i might touch up in the future. but heres whats going to happen to the requests themselves:

there are two finished requests. one will be posted tomorrow and the other will be touched up (just bc i finished it doesnt mean its good 🧍‍♂️) and scheduled for next saturday. as for the ones i never got around to ...

i will not be finishing those requests. i hate to be That Person, but i feel like we all expected this 🧍‍♂️ what i will do is post all of my notes for each request in batches -- requests that have an @ to go with them will be mentioned in the post proper, but anon asks will be pictured. (there are some asks that came from blogs who are now deactivated but i wrote down all the prompts and remember most of those askers so ill cross that bridge when i get there) there will most likely be an excerpt or two simply bc i think i mightve written a few plot points or interactions in the form of bullet points. i rlly am sorry about doing this but i remember looking at my notion doc with all the prompts and feeling ... like i wasnt measuring up n it wasnt just to myself or to some intangible concept of “other” id constructed but it was instead to those who requested n actually WANTED to see and hear and read my writing and i ...... im gonna admit thats another big reason i avoided this site.

regardless, youll definitely get what i have (and likely more than just my bullet points and illegible handwriting).

tl;dr: im sorry. what i have in terms of plot, concept, and interaction for every request will be posted, but i cant say ill ever complete them and mean it.

iv. so what now?

well i mean . im not entirely sure how sold i am on haikyuu in the content creation department (as a creator n to a lesser extent, as a consumer). as mentioned previously, its no longer my primary focus. it doesnt mean im not into haikyuu anymore; i have a lot of love for those boys but i cant rlly say im even caught up w recent fandom activity and also havent even finished s4 pt2 LMAO thats on my to do list

and despite all that, i still want to share my plots n concepts and snippets and maybe even fics. it wont happen anytime soon. it might not even happen. but i mean . its better than me saying i wont write ever again shjdkfs but either way ill probably use this blog as a personal blog w the occasional ask game for dialogue prompts (those are always so fun i love making up aus to fit like . the most mundane prompts)

as for my works (past and any potential future), ive opened an ao3 acc here n ill be editing n possibly expanding on my old works to post there. tumblr, to me, is The x reader hub, but i figure more x reader fics on ao3 is never a bad thing.

ill be deleting/posting drafted posts to the queue since they were all meant to be queued anyway as well as (sorry again 🧍‍♂️) deleting or answering asks in the inbox. (moots if you get a notif from me saying i rbed your post from months ago ... mind your business) im very hard to get ahold of and its ... a problem. expect an overhaul of the nav n shit to reflect my new direction n also because i feel like i cant tell if my passion for carrd is shared by the majority HSDKLFS maybe its better to read my info in a normal post ykwim .......

and of course . if youve read all this n decided im no longer worth the follow, i sure as hell cant stop you. thank you for wanting to, at some point, hear what i have to say -- it means more than you think.

im back! i wont be as active as i used to due to a lessened interest in haikyuu in general, but i have an ao3 acc now where all my past work will be edited, possibly expanded, and reposted. any future work will also find itself there. my halloween requests will be posted in batches as incomplete concepts, plots, and snippets of scenes; i wont be promising to finish any of them.

there are still fic concepts im attached to and want to finish, but i cant promise any more writing on my end. this blog will be a personal blog with maybe writing, not a writing blog with my personal thoughts all over it.

logan lark’s adventures in trying to appease his parents

CHAPTER 3: i am actively trying to throw away my shot but it isn’t fucking working

Summary: Logan Lark is a fairly average high school student. By all means, he should be impressing his parents on all grounds. Except...he doesn’t exactly have a social life. So after his parents give him puppy dog eyes, he decides to join the local theatre's youth production. Good grief...His life is about to get weird isn’t it?

Warnings: Potential ooc behavior, Roman is a theatre brat to the highest degree (Sorry Roman stans), Remus being Remus, Anxiety/Panic Attacks, Talks of anxiety/medication, Throwing up (Not detailed)

By almost all accounts, the next week got easier each day that passed. As Logan got acclimated to the chaos and worked on his notebook, things got much better. Part of this could be attributed to his time spent in the tech booth with Virgil.

Their goal for the week was to pick their audition song and perfect it so that by Friday they could perform and Thomas could quickly and efficiently cast the show. Their performance was in November, which was absolutely way too soon for Logan but Janus had assured him that it was more than enough time to put on an adequate performance. He took Virgil’s lifeline offer surprisingly often. Sitting in the booth and quietly practicing his audition worked out some of the stress in him. Sometimes Virgil would look up from his switch and make a comment on his performance or suggest something is changed, but aside from that, they were quietly comfortable with each other’s presence amongst all of the chaos that was the rest of the theatre.

When he left the booth, he was nearly swarmed by the others. It became routine. In the morning, he would spend time with Virgil, Patton, and their friend Emile. Oftentimes conversation was light, and the commentary was helpful and constructive. At lunch, he and Virgil would move to the tech booth and eat there together to get some peace and quiet in before inevitably being bombarded in the afternoon. After lunch, someone (usually Remus) would make their way up to the tech booth and drag them out to the boy’s dressing room. Virgil would sit in the corner and occasionally mess with one of the twins, or hiss at Janus in greeting, and Logan would be worked to the bone. He had decided to audition with Hamilton’s rap from My Shot; Doing the first and second halves, but cutting out the middle. Janus was extremely dedicated to being sure Logan’s performance would make an impression. Logan wanted the opposite, but he couldn’t argue with Janus’ dedication to making the entire show perfect.

Though, Roman’s attitude didn’t really change that much. For four days, he stayed at a zero. By Friday morning, he actually enjoyed his routine in part. Aside from Roman. Actually, Logan thinks if Roman was completely removed from the situation he may actually be happy with his current predicament. All this has just been practice though. When Friday afternoon rolls around and his audition is getting closer and closer, he tries to focus on the other performers. When it’s Roman’s turn, he pays special attention. Now he sees why Roman has an ego about these things. His audition was very good, and he felt natural on the stage. He would make a wonderful Hamilton, and he really looked the part. Despite him and Remus being technically identical, he looked worlds different. His clothes were ironed perfectly, and he had obviously dressed a bit historically today. His wavy hair was combed to let his face shine through in the stage light, and he was...dear lord, was he wearing eyeliner? Logan shook it from his mind and listened to him sing. Just like the days he’d seen him practice, he was very good. Obviously star material. If he didn’t get Hamilton, Logan would eat a page from his notebook. Figuratively, of course. That would be bad for his digestive system.

On either side of him are Patton and Virgil. He’s not really focusing on auditions until Roman’s, and after he phases back into his overthinking. He’s not nervous, he would never be nervous. Logically, there is no reason for him to be nervous. He’s just being vigilant. That’s it.

Virgil nudges him, “I can practically hear your thinking. You okay?”

“Oh-Uhm-Yes,” Logan says quietly, staring up at the performer on stage, “I’ll be fine.”

Virgil digs into his pocket and pulls out a little cube, he hands it to Logan with a kind expression, “See if that helps your anxiety.”

“I’m not anxious, there’s no reason for me to be anxious.” Logan scoffs, taking the little cube and running his thumb over the side with a small silver ball. The movement does make him feel a little better.

Virgil smirks, and flicks his shoulder, “You’re smarter than that, Logan. C’mon.”

He’s right, and Logan knows it. Anxious feelings can be totally irrational and are oftentimes a result of doing something new or stressful.

If he bombed this, it could be very stressful indeed. Janus would certainly not be happy after he put all that work into helping him. Roman would probably laugh, or make some comment about how he knew this would happen. Why did he even care anyway? He didn’t. He was simply falling victim to a very stupid bout of anxiety. When his name is called, he hands Virgil back his cube and makes his way up to the stage. He takes a deep breath, says he is auditioning for no one in particular, and then is cued in. He performs how he was coached, completely ignoring his anxiety and doing the best he possibly could. When he’s finished, Thomas looks very pleased as the crowd claps. Someone even wolf whistles and Logan is fairly certain it’s Remus. He sits quietly for the rest of the auditions, Virgil passes him back the cube.

The cast list won’t be out until Monday, so all the kids have the weekend to spend enjoying their summer. Well, if they don’t enjoy theatre. Logan managed to be very productive on his days off. His chart was filled and he indulged in sleeping in on Saturday. For two days he was not checkmated by social interaction at all, and it was a paradise. He managed to burn through four books from the local library, and was working his way through the fifth when his phone went off. He picked it up, not expecting a text from Virgil.

‘hey. logan i just saw the cast list and...god i really hope you dont get straight-up murdered.’

This had confused him heavily, and then he realized what Virgil might mean and he felt anxiety bubble up into his stomach.

‘How did you see the cast list? Isn’t that classified until tomorrow?’

‘joan and i are tight, they let me see it.’

That makes sense, Virgil seemed close to Joan and Thomas. Closer than he was, at least.

‘Are you willing to tell me who I am playing?’

‘you have to act shocked tomorrow if i do.’

He started to panic, and he looked up at the sky as if pleading with God to make this a dream or a prank.

‘Okay? Please tell me I didn’t get Hamilton.’

‘...sorry…’

His phone goes off a number of times after this, but he had to put it down. The lead? He was playing Hamilton? Alexander Hamilton, the leading man of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton?

The bubble of anxiety in his chest welled up and made him so nauseous that he couldn’t speak for fear of throwing up.

He didn’t expect this, he didn’t even want this. He had been so anxious at the audition, and now he was the lead? What was he going to do? He couldn’t perform half as well as Roman! Why did Thomas choose him in the first place!? The idea of standing on that stage performing with an ensemble made him queasy, but Alexander Hamilton had solos. Songs where he stood alone and faced a crowd of eyes just pouring into him, staring at him. Staring into his soul and seeing that he was just a fake. A hack. The lights would be so bright that he would be able to see into the audience and make out faces. Then, after the audience decided they hated him, he would disappoint Thomas who had picked him to be the lead despite first hearing the songs on Monday. He would be hated by the other performers, a wildly untalented newcomer coming in and taking Roman’s spot as lead-And oh god, how would Roman feel? Virgil was right, Roman was going to kill him. It would be righteous too, Roman deserved it. He’d stolen away the lead role in a show he was passionate about. Why couldn’t the production have been something like Shakespeare? Or, even better, there should have been no production at all!

He manages to stumble his way to his bathroom before he throws up, and he hopes his mother didn’t hear him. His hands are still shaky as he cleans himself up and tries not to think about the play. He still feels nauseous and panicked. He spends thirty minutes calming himself down. His heart rate and breathing had risen substantially, and when he had finally calmed he realized he had even been crying. Managing to pick up his phone again, he looked at Virgil’s messages.

‘logan?’

Then a minute later, ‘logan are you okay?’

A few minutes later, ‘shit are you panicking?’

And a minute ago ‘text me back asap’

It’s nice to know it was concerning behaviour to Virgil as well. As he thought about his strange spiral of thoughts and forced himself not to think about them all at once, he realized what had just happened. What would continue to happen.

‘I am okay. I believe I just had a panic attack. I haven’t had one in years.’

‘youve had one before?’ Ah, right. He hadn’t discussed this with Virgil. He hadn’t discussed a lot of his past with Virgil.

‘When I was in middle school I had joined debate team, but I realized that public speaking gave me terrible anxiety. I used to take medication to help, as the panic attacks happened semi-regularly. Eventually, I stopped doing debate, and I stopped taking the medication as I thought that would be the end of it. I suppose that was reckless thinking, as it may just be a form of performance anxiety overall.’

‘why then, pray tell, are you fucking doing theatre?’ Logan smiles a little at that, he wondered too.

‘I thought it would go away.’ Logan can almost see Virgil rolling his eyes at the comment, ‘I will speak to my mother and get more medication.’

Then he thinks of Virgil's behaviour and asks, ‘Also, and I apologize if I am overstepping, do you not have an anxiety disorder?’

‘yeah ive got regular anxiety and social anxiety. its a bunch of bullshit. why do you think im on tech?’ He feels a little bad for Virgil now, anxiety disorders are not very pleasant. He only has bouts of anxiety situationally, he can’t imagine it being near-constant.

‘I assumed it was because you enjoyed it. I will go and speak with my mother immediately.’

‘was being sarcastic L. anyway, tell me how it goes.’ Logan stops when he reads this. Tell him how it goes? That is an invitation to message him regularly, right? It sounds like it, or at least to tell him about a problem that has been irking him. That...that is a thing meant for friends right?

‘Are you sure? I was under the impression that our speaking was reserved for the theatre.’

‘i mean, it can be. but we can be out-of-theatre friends too. if you want. no pressure.’

This...this was a very welcome surprise. He supposed that despite his rebound into performance anxiety, making one of his first friends in a very long time could prove enjoyable. Scheduling conflicts aside.

‘I would enjoy that. I will update you.’

When he asks his mother about going back on his anxiety medication, she immediately jumps into a very motherly mode. She pulls him into a hug, and pets his hair, asking if anything is wrong, if he’s okay, the whole nine yards. As much as any teenager would hate to admit it, he loved his mother very dearly. This affection was...a lot, yes, but he could endure it for her. She was only showing her care. It was late afternoon, so the doctor was still open. Out of some insane luck, they managed to get an appointment that afternoon and he had his medication by later that night.

‘Virgil, I am happy to inform you that I am now in possession of medication for my anxiety again!’

‘that was super quick, congrats, im happy for you L.’

They talked for much longer, and Logan felt pleased by his gain in mood. Surprisingly, he was even able to talk about the books he had read with Virgil. If Sunday was on his chart, Logan is certain Virgil would get a twelve for today. Even if that broke his scale.

He made it a point to ask his father to stop and get coffee the next morning. Partially for him, yes. The medication was new to his system again and had made him slightly groggy when it started taking effect. Though it was partially to get a “thank you” gift for Virgil. He had asked what kind of coffee he liked the previous night when they had talked, and ordered his favourite. He offered to pay for his and Virgil’s coffee, but his father simply shrugged.

“You’ve had a hard week, I’ll buy it for you.”

He smiled softly, appreciating his father’s kind gesture more than he would ever say out loud. When they arrived he even gave him a hug, which was hard with two coffee cups but he made it work.

Before entering the auditorium he took a deep breath, and reminded himself that everything was going to work out. Which may be a lie, but he would have to enter to find out wouldn’t he? With a push, he made his way in. He regretted it almost instantly. He could hear Roman yelling backstage, probably having seen the cast list. To be fair, Logan didn’t know who Roman was cast as, but he hopes it wasn’t all too bad. Quickly, he manages to avoid any kids who are in the auditorium seats and slinks his way up into the tech booth.

“Good morning, Virgil.” He says, setting down Virgil’s coffee in front of him.

Virgil looks surprised, “Morning, is this for me?”

“Who else would it be for?” Logan asks, making Virgil smirk.

“Thanks, you should hurry down and look at the cast list though. Roman might rip it to pieces.”

Logan nods and hurries out, but makes the decision to leave his drink with Virgil in case of any...emergency.

Ducking into the backstage area, he finds Patton trying to calm down Roman, who is very very angry. Remus is laughing again, but Logan doesn’t know what is so funny about his imminent demise. Janus is the first to notice his presence and gives him a sympathetic nod.

“Patton, he hadn’t even heard of Hamilton until a week ago! What kind of lead even is that!?”

“Look, I don’t understand it either, but when Thomas gets here you can talk to him! I’m sure Logan is going to be shocked when he gets…” Patton had noticed him and was now staring, “here…”

Roman notices and turns on him and shoves the cast list into his face, “Look at this, Logan! You! You are playing Hamilton! Are you happy!?”

Logan sighs deeply, taking the list and looking it over, “Not in the slightest if that makes you feel any better.”

“That actually somehow makes me feel worse!” Roman shouts then sits down in one of the backstage chairs to pout.

Janus holds back his laughter, “Wow Logan, this is totally not hilarious at all, Roman should totally be pouting like a little kid and throwing a fit.”

“Guys! Seriously! It’s not a bad thing! Logan’s audition was amazing!” Patton says as cheerfully as usual and walks closer to Logan to point at the cast list, “Look, I’m playing Eliza! That’s super awesome! We’ll be doing a lot of scenes together so I hope we can become better friends!”

Logan just nods, going back to reading. Him as Hamilton, with Roman as his understudy. Along with being his understudy, Roman was going to play George Washington. Logan liked George Washington’s part, and though he didn’t understand his being Hamilton, he’s glad Roman got a large role. Janus would be playing Aaron Burr, which made a lot of sense. Janus would be wonderful as Burr. Patton, as he already said, would be playing Eliza. This was...a bit of a problem, the more Logan thought about it. Patton would be playing his love interest. He...he would think about that when it mattered more. Remus would be playing King George, which Logan was glad about. Remus seemed to really want to play the villain. Though Remus’ name was next to another character’s name as well. Maria Reynolds. Remus Grimm playing King George and Maria Reynolds. He would be in a scene where Remus would have to actively seduce him.

Just as he started to wrap his head around this, Remus slung an arm over his shoulder.

“Ain’t it just great that I get to be a monarch and a whore!? I, personally, couldn’t be happier. Make money, get dick, I always say!” Remus says excitedly.

Logan chokes on his own spit, and has to cough a bit before he can reply, “I can see how the seduction angle appeals to you.”

“It won’t appeal to me if you get sick and Roman ends up Hamilton!”

Logan visibly cringes and Remus chuckles, “So you better not drop out or something, dork! I can do a lot of gross shit but acting out the seduction of my twin brother is way too gross.”

Thinking for a second, Logan turns to look at Remus, who is smiling at him. His teeth are so sharp. His eye shadow is bright violet and a mess. He really does look like he had recently been at a rave.

“I’ll be sure not to disappoint you, Remus.”

listen. listennn. i love heist movies almost just a little bit more than the next person (nervously shoves huge oceans 11 obsession behind my back) and the great pretender basically?? feeds me that. the humor is excellent, the story is fun, and i just think that the blond cocky one should kiss the dorky dark haired one. i havent finished it but it has EVERYTHING u could want. french thieves, con artistry, hot characters, and RIVALRIES.

2. Assassination Classroom

ok. i. havent actually even finished season one of this. but listen its really good so far and if you havent watched it yet id be really really REALLY surprised. koro senseis kinda cute but i wont think about the implications of that too hard

3. Hello World (movie)

I WATCHED THIS ON MY BIRTHDAY AT 4 AM IN THE MORNING BUT THIS MOVIE IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT AND WHILE I HAVE A LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP W THE PLOT, YOUD ENJOY IT IF YOU LIKE THE IDEA OF TIME TRAVEL AND LIVING IN A SIMULATION (the girl love interest gets like. 0 screen time and that fact will upset me til i die)

4. Kimi No Na Wa (movie)

(oh god these are all mainstream im so disgusting dont look at me yall have probably seen this all) this movie made me cry real tears. the character development and relationship development in this movie is actually excellent and youre going to want to rewatch this about 70 times. by FAR my favorite anime movie and the fact that some people still havent watched it is HAUNTING. its about two people who keep switching bodies randomly over the course of many years.

5. YURI!!! ON ICE

ok ivE BEEN YELLING ABOUT THIS ANIME FOR THE PAST WEEK AND I KNOW YOUVE PROBABLY WATCHED IT BUT PLEASE GOD I JUST LOVE THIS SERIES SO GD MUCH IT HAUNTS ME

this... is technically not an anime LOL. its american and while the art style is very anime-esque, its ultimately modelled w 3d software and made by a texan studio. If we were to count this as an anime, then this would be the longest ive ever sticked with at a whopping 9 seasons. Ive followed rwby since i was like. 10 years old and im not gonna say much about it except that youll love the premise if you love bnha AND that the animation gets WAY better with time.

Honorable Mentions: Doomed Heavy Metal by Khemmis - Missed the list mainly because as good as it is, it’s a rarities/covers/live collection, not new original music.

Forever Black by Cirith Ungol - New music by a band whose last release is older than me, and honestly, fucking great stuff, it just didn’t grab me personally for long enough to rate one of the top spots. Still worth mentioning.

#5: Free IH: This Is Not The One You’ve Been Waiting For by Illuminati Hotties - The self-described Tenderpunk pioneers are back with a fantastic follow up to Kiss Yr Frenemies. This one sees them exploring the punk side of their heritage a little more, although there’s still plenty of tender emotionality to go around. #4: Dream Quest Ends by Smoulder - A fantastic EP by relatively new trad-doom metallers Smoulder, featuring two original tracks and a Manilla Road cover. The vinyl version comes with this EP on one side and their 2018 Sword Woman EP on the other. Honestly this one would rate higher if it weren’t for the fact that there’s only two new songs on it, but those two are probably the best tracks on the whole thing. Dream Quest Ends is an incredible track and frankly worth the price of admission on it’s own, and Warrior Witch of Hel is a crunchingly heavy song for when you feel like drinking bloodwine from the skulls of your enemies. https://smoulder.bandcamp.com/

#3: Stay Alive by Laura Jane Grace - As a trans woman, I feel like I’m contractually obligated to love LJG’s stuff, and this one’s a very solid release. While Free IH had some songs that were pandemic-influenced, this album feels like a deep-dive into the solitude and trauma of the quarantine and the sickness that’s been sweeping the world this past year. The album steeps in the feelings of hopelessness and loneliness without getting lost in them, and comes out with a message that is, if not hopeful, at least determined - stay alive, and get through this. Something we could all use right about now. https://laurajanegrace.bandcamp.com/album/stay-alive #2: Hypnotized by Midnight Dice - I discovered Midnight Dice progenitor band Satan’s Hallow too late to support them so when I discovered most of the band had reformed under Midnight Dice, I was over the moon to say the least. This EP is both their longest and their strongest to date under the new moniker. The songs are fast and punchy, paying homage to trad metal greats of the past, while giving the genre their own spin driven by a truly excellent vocal performance. Starblind is a particularly excellent track and has been playing in my head on repeat for large portions of this year. While some albums on this list delve emotionally into the current zeitgeist of 2020, Hypnotized is escapism at its finest, raising a defiant fist and refusing to give up hope. https://midnightdice.bandcamp.com/

#1: Endarkenment by Anaal Nathrakh - The critical reception on this album seems pretty split between “AN has gotten formulaic” and “AN has honed their formula to a razor’s edge of brutality”. As you might expect given that it’s my #1, I fall in the latter camp - this album fucking kills. I’ve always appreciated that Anaal Nathrakh pulls no punches with their furious lyrics, but doesn’t descend into the normal blood and gore splattered brainlessness that a lot of death metal does. This isn’t anger for anger’s sake, it’s a defiantly nihilistic thrust at the heart of the ignorance and evil of the world, one that acknowledges its own futility but strikes out anyway. All the elements of the album, from the guitars and the drum machine to the screams, growls, and clean vocals come together in a brutal package, an auditory embodiment of apocalypse to spit in the eyes of god. https://anaalnathrakh.bandcamp.com/album/endarkenment

you work in fundraising, so i was wondering if youve been following or have any thoughts on the mit media lab and jeffrey epstein fundraising mess? mostly curious about your perspective on ethics in fundraising

The whole thing went down at a moment when I was having some Real Life Transitional Action going on, so it’s taken me a while to catch up, and I still can’t say I know it as inside-out as some – I’m not following the Epstein thing in general but the MIT Media Lab aspect of it in specific is something I’ve done some reading on.

I’m going to put this behind a cut because it’s long and also I talk about Epstein’s sex crimes, which may be traumatic for some people.

The thing is, it’s not actually that unusual for nonprofits to help a donor conceal how much they’ve really given. The New Yorker article about it talks about a lot of practices that are actually considered standard for most nonprofits as if they were super duper shady. Things nonprofits do all the time:

1. Accept donations from individuals who are “disqualified” in their database. Disqualified just means they don’t have a dedicated gift officer and nobody is interested in asking them for money. It doesn’t mean offers of money are categorically refused. And nonprofits are so reluctant to reject money that there is frequently no classification for “we will not take money from this person ever.”

2. Accept “anonymous” donations where they actually know the source. This just means that the individual doesn’t want credit publicly. Usually they are still credited in the system. There’s nothing particularly shady about this; a donor has a right to choose how they are identified.

3. Consult a donor about use of funds. Like, why wouldn’t we? There are certain legal and ethical boundaries – donors should not be allowed to choose who is hired, fired, etc, and usually that’s in the agreement they sign when they give. But the donor can direct funds. This is why a new emphasis is rising on “unrestricted” gifts -- where the donor gives to an unrestricted fund and then has no more control over it. It lets the institution funnel that money into an area of the most need, rather than vanity projects and endless construction just so they’ll have a building to name after someone.

4. Make use of a wealthy, connected donor to solicit other donors. This is extremely common and there’s no real issue with it. It’s like asking your buddy to ask his bowling league to help sponsor your walkathon. It doesn’t reflect super well on some of the people Epstein brought into MIT Media Lab, but it’s not an ethical issue institutionally speaking.

Here’s the only problems, realistically, but they are doozies:

1. The development staff knew Jeffrey Epstein was a convicted sex offender and that his offenses involved children and they still took his money. This is morally indefensible, to my mind, but...it’s not illegal.

2. They clearly tried, or considered trying, to hide the source of the money from MIT’s larger administrative body, which means they knew what they were doing was morally indefensible. However, the letters we’ve seen indicate that they didn’t want to commit any illegal acts in their attempts to do so.

3. They actively solicited him while listing him as disqualified. This is a breach of best practices, but it is something that happens, and morally not even an issue if you’re soliciting someone who isn’t a monstrous human being. Again, nothing they did was illegal.

And that’s...troubling. Not because I think it should be illegal for criminals to give to nonprofits, but because there is no body, governmentally or otherwise, that said “this is wrong and there will be consistent consequences.”

I think we can admit what happened is pretty fucked up. But it also highlights that there is no standard code of ethics for soliciting or accepting gifts from morally depraved individuals or ethically dubious companies, especially if they wish to remain anonymous and therefore aren’t associating themselves publicly with the institution. Having any kind of business dealings with Epstein should have been off the table absolutely, because there’s no way he wasn’t using MIT Media Lab to his benefit, and benefits are not something we want to offer to people who rape children.

But there is no written guideline that all charitable organizations have signed, no membership organization that can oust someone who violates their code, that says “Here’s where we draw the line.” That policy is set individually by the nonprofit’s administration, which is almost always white male executives over the age of fifty. And often it isn’t “set” at all -- just handled on a case by case basis. Nowhere have all the universities of the country come together and said “We will agree on this ethical guideline for who we will and will not accept money from.”

So public censure is all we have, and public censure can be very uneven in its targeting. And that’s becoming more and more untenable.

And....well, it’s sort of my job to be the band aid. Which is really untenable.

One part of my job, a part I’ve rarely had to exercise but a part that is really troubling, is preventing my organization from fucking up the way MIT Media Lab fucked up. It’s discovering a prospective donor is a war criminal or a sex offender or a con man and convincing my bosses not to ask them for money.

And it doesn’t always work. Because they are my bosses and I can’t order them not to accept money from monsters.

There’s a really telling moment in the New Yorker article:

Ethan Zuckerman, an associate professor, had voiced concerns about the relationship with Epstein for years. In 2013, Zuckerman said, he pulled Ito aside after a faculty meeting to express concern about meetings on Ito’s calendar marked “J.E.” Zuckerman recalled saying, “I heard you’re meeting with Epstein. I don’t think that’s a good idea,” and Ito responding, “You know, he’s really fascinating. Would you like to meet him?”

That is the attitude fundraisers sometimes take, and in some sense can be forced by the situation to take, about morally dubious individuals. They know the person; they avoid knowing the reputation, because that means not only that someone they consider a colleague is a monster, but they’re going to have to grapple with either taking money from a monster or leaving it on the table for someone else to take. Someone was going to take that money if they didn’t, and FOMO is a powerful motivator when you have fundraising quotas to fill.

So…MIT Media Lab’s fundraising team fucked up. But also a lot of the talk of how they fucked up seems focused on very common fundraising practices, rather than on the fact that a group of people looked at a convicted child rapist and made the decision to take his money. I think both fundraising ethics and fundraising best practices should be routinely and thoroughly examined, but I think there’s also a question surrounding wealth and desperation that’s going largely unexplored.

And it comes back around to the idea that nobody should be this rich, and that if the rampant greed of the wealthiest people in the world had been contained at some point, nonprofits wouldn’t need to decide between turning down money and climbing into the pockets of child rapists to get it. And I don’t know how to fix that, I just know that it’s there and it’s a big problem.

MIT Media Lab taking Jeffrey Epstein’s money was wrong, but it was also a symptom of a larger issue that is much, much worse.

I dont think I ever said anything about this, but when I replayed the skyrim romance mod after it got an update a while back, it seemed like someone read my random comments about it and like....actually tweaked the mod?? which is really cool imo. putting this under a cut since I think the mod still generally has a bad rep, even though it seems like theyre working on that in some capacity. I didnt really even know what the drama was about in the first place.

literally everything I talked about that could be fixed within a reasonable amount of time was fixed. back then (~3-4 yrs ago) I was a little more tolerant of the “bad boy, borderline abusive” type and while the character himself seems to be intentionally pushy, it seems to be a bit better. if I remember correctly, I think they cut the rapey bits and just worked around it so that bishop was still a brat about your player not wanting to have sex, but not a scary horny nutcase. theres a big difference between “youre gonna have sex with me one of these days wench!!” and “ugh, fine, be like that!” its def not A+, but it is an improvement that still suits the character. I obviously wasnt too bothered with the earlier version back then (had some stuff I was going through), but now I can see the concern, and to me its less cringey. Id have to replay it again to see how I feel exactly, but Im sure its better at least.

they re-did the whole interaction with cael so instead of him talking about how he could give you orgasms like youve never seen, hes cautious of you yet still kind of flirty. a real sweetie. I mean, I like the new bit, but he could also let me know hes dtf a little bit. lmao thats just me though.

the one thing I did not like too much was that they added animations for the sex scenes, and that you had no choice but to sit through them (unless you said no to sex altogether). since I literally set the camera so that I could not see the sex anims, I did get to hear bishops VA during the scenes and Imma just say.......... you should hear them. even if its just the once. lmao. I read that theyre gonna cut out the sex mod dependencies so that you can just have fade to black scenes, and I am for that 1000000%.

now I just hope it gets ported it to the special edition, because it seems waaay too hard and time consuming to do it myself. I tried to start but the list of tasks was just too long to justify working on when I have homework and other stuff to do.

outside all that, I can see why there was such a bad vibe surrounding the mod at first. it all made sense when I read about the drama on reddit, but the harshness was a bit... much?? from what I read, the creator made some bad choices and eventually acknowledged/fixed them. her reasoning and intentions for making them could be questionable, but people are human, idk what else to say. Im just... not grabbing a pitchfork over this and I fail to see any reason to continue that now lmao. she obviously still wants to hold everything together for the mod and do things better so... Im not gonna hold a grudge even if she made bad choices. she ultimately canceled the kickstarter, and this is all ultimately over a mod. a skyrim mod. you either wanna play and support it or you dont because of very valid reasons. its up to you. but either way it just will never be that serious.

I honestly got the impression that she might be a bad person from stuff I read until I got the chance to read about everything, and then I was like wow.. she fucked up, but the worst thing she did was undone the same day it happened so...like... yall couldve just went on about your lives and left this woman alone.

anyway, long talk. it seems like the mods at a standstill, since it hasnt been ported to the SE yet and I dont think the creator herself has made any announcements about actual updates coming soon. but I actually hope things stay positive for the mod.

Update: so I downloaded the beta for the SE. it wasnt working for me as the dialogue would seem to break anytime after I used racemenu. I literally cant play skyrim without changing my hair, and the person in charge of the beta said to try playing it on a no-rush new game so... I kind of gave up. I had started over twice after already sinking 4-8 hours into those 2 new games, specifically for the mod, and I just didnt feel like doing it again.

Replaying the bits that I could, I will say it is... kind of cheesy. Doesnt bother me much though. I used to write bad fanfiction, so its not the worst. Its just not impervious to being... cheesy at times. Idk how to put it lol. Maybe you could say its tropey? Like something youd read in a romance novel with those dramatic traditional cover illustrations. Not bad. Just, if you hate that kinda thing, you might not be into it. Im not very critical because the alternative is like. 1 other mod? So I just dont mind.

Outside of that I kind of have no idea what my complete opinion is on it now. I intended to find out, but gave up due to modding issues. I was a little younger when I first played it, so I may have different opinions on it now. As I mentioned before my opinion of sex and certain character traits used to be different, and its changed a lot since then. Its still kind of changing even now. I still go “yeah... that was the trauma” about stuff I used to think was not so bad.

To be honest I didnt even remember having an opinion of it as cheesy a few years ago, but now after replaying for the 3rd time Im like... from what little Ive seen so far, its some pretty sharp cheddar lol. So if it is a lot worse than you felt you were led to believe from reading this, Im sorry, and you can inbox me about it. Especially since I may not ever even play the newest version.

I found out last night while I was with my boyfriend of 3 years that he was cheating on me with someone from snapchat and I cant stop thinking about it. It's seriously taking its toll on me So anything at all would help really. I just need to stop thinking

Here is a list of things that i do to distract myself when i need to take my mind off things !

1. Draw while watching/listening to a positive youtube channel or podcast! My recommendations are Good Mythical Morning(YT), Conan Needs A Friend(podcast), GameGrumps (particularly their power hours, YT) OR you can watch shows! I like Parks and Rec, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, or Fraisure, or MASH, john mulaney stand up, Scooby Doo, or The British Bake Off!!

2. Shop online! Treat yourself to something or buy something that fixes something youve been annoyed at so that you feel better, (broken apple pencil, more watercolor paper, etc! Something that makes you feel better! You deserve it🥺

3. Clean and listen to music! Reorganize your room, trust me , nothing feels better than having a really clean nice room when you arent having a good day:)

4. Sleep. Sleep is my #1 distraction, but it doesnt make me feel much better afterward. I wouldnt recommend you use sleep as your main distractor but its always good to go to bed a little bit early 🥺💕💕

i am always open to plotting!! let me see what i can find, i’ll organise it by character,,,no dancestors for now but if u wanted to plot with one of them, feel free to send another ask!!

i dont really have any DETAILED plot ideas, these are more just starting points..sadly none of my ocs rly have future arcs planned out so these are all pretty casual...and these are not an exhaustive list! im open to any and all plot ideas so pls dont be afraid to ask!!

for faldur,,

he’s always open for ex matesprits or ex kismesis, as well as casual pitch flings. theres pretty much no guidelines for these ones, if it’s someone who’d be interested in him, and they’re jade or above, it’s fair game!

an ex mate might be someone who found him too intense and broke up with him, someone who indulged his narcissism and boosted his ego til his other quads were forced to intervene, or something else entirely, as long as there was a reason they had to break up (i currently dont want him to have a red quad 4 Reasons)

kismesis flings…hes open to anything. he hangs around bars often and will flirt with Anyone he finds attractive, so if someones open to that kinda thing its good to go. this could also lead to general friendships! he has no friends currently. boo

on the topic of friends, book friends! a little known fact is he spends a lot of time on book forums, and someone to geek out over books with would be a nice change of pace.

bitchy highblood friends. just like a bitchy seadweller squad would be fun, tbh.

enemies! got a seadweller who would find him obnoxious? hell yeah! enemies is pretty open ended, i’d be willing to have faldur fucked up to teach him a lesson (within reason, he IS a seadweller and he is strong. he does fight a lot) alternatively, u got a lowblood (or highblood tbh) who needs a reason to be afraid of seadwellers? faldur attacks ppl who so much as look at him funny, so thats a valid option too

MAFIA TIES…faldur works as an assassin for when people need something really fucked up done to someone. do with that what u will

OH I JUST REMEMBERED fleet recruiters/anyone from the fleet/similar organisation who sees potential in him. faldurs constantly torn between redemption and leaving it all behind to join the fleet, so that could be interesting!

friends from university! anyone in sciences, forensics, medical science, criminal studies…he probably studied with them! his backstory is that he disappeared from university one day when he got kidnapped by a mafia boss, and managed to wrangle his way into them keeping him alive. an old friend who noticed and is suddenly Very Confused upon seeing him again like 5 years later

someone he went to uni with who’s now in the law industry, and the conflict that might arise from them being on two totally different ends of the spectrum…could be a fun dynamic!

on the same wavelength: old flames from university. ex quadrants, ex hookups, ex crushes. people he was romantically involved with before suddenly disappearing
