I have a lot of thoughts. I think for 2024 I don't want to be around people who believe writing and fandoms are a competition. I am tired of having to triple check and guess at peoples intentions. I am tired of being wary of people.

Regardless, to an extent, you have to be wary with everyone, but I am tired of it tipping over into a paranoia. I think a lot of people have lost the meaning of fandom. That, or I have a very clearly different definition.

I view fandom as a fun hobby. An outlet. I like treating everyone equally. I imagine us all in a space where we are on equal ground. We are free to talk to whoever unless there has been a block in place or a clear boundry expressed.

We share 'food' (fanfics, fanart, idle thoughts, fun convos, etc) for the sake of Sharing. Not for the sake of being better than one another. Not for the sake of being 'the best' at xyz. We may feel bad when our 'food' doesn't seem as well liked as others, but thats not the others fault. Not even our fault. Some people may have just ate when we put our food out. Maybe some people hadn't even arrived yet. But its there waiting.

We have our friends. Our friends have their friends. We just co-exist.

I don't compare. I don't look at my masterlist, all my notes, and heave sighs that its smaller than so and sos. I don't laugh when its bigger than others. I look at it as an archive for what I was able to do this year.

I do not view people as their follower counts. I don't base my actions towards people around numbers. I base my actions towards others on how they have treated me, my friends, or others. I don't think of this as a numbers game. I don't think of this as something to 'win' at.

I can tell you that I used to, years before I joined cyb*rd fandoms. I can tell you I fell for people coaching me on how to 'behave' in fandoms, that I should only focus on numbers, not people. I can tell you it made me miserable. Made my love for writing and similar take a heavy hit. That it felt fine at first, until I realized viewing people as a number meant thats all they viewed me as. Another step towards some bullshit about 'popularity'.

Why do we want faceless numbers to be more important than genuine connection with others. Why do we make faceless numbers into ammo to use against others. It gives me a headache. I am tired of trying to make human connections based off of a love of a shared hobby only to realize, that oh. They love the 15 minutes of fame, not those who surround them. That oh, this is not made with the love for sharing creation, this was made for views. For clicks. For 'popularity'. I am tired.

Why is Creed going into a books store?

Sabretooth never struck Logan as much of a reader. Logan decides not to strike and instead follows the man in and ducks out of sight, faking looking over book titles as he listens to the feral speak to the man at the counter.

“-ind Frankenstein? The… 1818 version? Apparently thats important?”

Creed asks. The man at the counter responds.

“Oh yes. There are different versions. Many people prefer one over the other. Is this a gift?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you think that the person you are getting it for would be interested in a version with an appendix with the literary references listed or just the text?”

There is a beat of silence.

“One with references.”

Creed mutters out.

“Right this way.”

Logan makes sure to stay out of sight. Who the hell is Creed buying a book for? Who would bother to detail out what version of Frankenstein to buy to Creed? And who did Creed care enough to bother remembering those details for?

Creed buys the book and exits and Logan stalks after, careful not to be spotted or smelt. He needs to find out who is stupid enough to grow close with Creed and warn them. Or save them. 

As he follows a young man suddenly leaps out and slams feet-first into Creed’s chest. The kid flips and snaps out two electrified Escrima sticks and slams those into Creed’s arms.

“Bast*rd! Connard!! What you do with mon brother?!!”

The young man shrieks and Creed swipes him to the side. Before Creed can advance on the downed man, a girl leaps in and knocks out his legs. Creed snarls in anger as the girl snaps.

“Henri!! The hell! I told you to wait!!”

Logan cannot let the two idiotic humans fight Creed alone. So when Creed roars at them, Logan gives his own roar in return. Creed’s attention partially snaps to him and the feral makes a surprising move. He steps backwards, not immediately engaging any of the three that encircle him.

“Not your fight runt.”

Creed snaps at him. Logan goes to respond when he is interrupted by the young man.

“My questions not answered tataille!!! Where the hell you take mon petit frère!?! You kill him?”

There is so much burning rage as the man yells. Creed snarls and shifts away again, only for the girl to circle to his back and draw knives, making sure that the blades make a deadly sound as they escape their sheaths.

“What's a mutant doin’ with mutant hunters, eh?”

She hisses and Logan lets his claws spring out at this. They had been trying to discover the reason behind several missing person cases. Missing persons that were probably mutants. Is Creed involved? He growls low and guttural. 

“Remy’s safer than if he was on the streets. No one to marry where we’re holed up.”

Creed snaps, an ugly smile wrapping his features. Henri snarls.

“You messin’ with Guilds. Gonna rip out your eye for touchin’ Remy!”

The young man flies forwards, electricity crackling in the air. Creed swipes and the kid ducks and jabs. Creed snarls and bats at the kid again. Henri is fast. But not fast enough. He is hit and Logan leaps forward and slices into the opening created. He slashes and claws. Creed throws him away and howls. The girl twirls forwards and buries knives into his joints. Creed growls and snarls. She darts around him and knocks out his legs. She leaps to his chest and then stalls.

“Frankenstein??”

She holds up the book in its plastic wrapping that keeps it safe from the rain. Creed hisses.

“Yeah.”

“For… Rems?”

“Yeah.”

“Ah… Henri! Come on! Lets go.”

“What do you mean ‘lets go’, Bella?? The bastard is here!”

“And buyin’ a book. Frankenstein. Frankenstein cher!”

Henri pauses, swears colorfully in French and then shifts to stand between the now risen Logan and Creed.

She hops off of Creed and drops the book on his chest. As Creed rises she looks him in the eye.

“We comin’ for him. Dont doubt it. Mais, get his book to him. Go.”

ahhh FINALLYYYY this took me FOREVERRRR to do!!! this idea came to me in a dream and i KNEW i had to draw it. i wanted to imitate the g3 style, but i also wanted to make aj and rd look more distinct from each other. a lot of g3 ponies look the same, so i decided right off the bat that i wanted to give them each some little features to avoid making a recolor of the same pony yknow? (this is in no way meant to disrespect the g3 art style ofc, i love the art, thats why i drew this piece SAKFJFJDS i understand why they had 2 do it that way bc yknow. thats how the toys are LMAOOOO)

more specific details include:

applejack is chunkier and has shorter legs, along with the softer features that most g3 ponies have. i also gave her ponytails as a nod to her g4 incarnation!!

rainbow dash is thinner with longer legs and slightly sharper, more angular features (like pointier ears/snout). i wanted to make her mane and tail look more like an arch, just like real rainbows!!

i studied a lot of g3 art pieces to try to get the look just right. i think i did....ok for my first time!! there r some things im not quite happy with but it was a lot of fun!! (except for the flowers. the flowers were a nightmare)

SPEAKING of the flowers, i basically just drew three in each color and then just copy pasted/resized them all LMAOOOO i later went in and added more detailed shading to each one to make them look slightly different

that bridge was actually the most fun part of the background to draw i was NOT expecting 2 like that bridge so much. please look at my bridge everypony i worked rly hard on it

UMMM I'll hold ur hand when I say this but Qatar definitely wasn't an outlier, prolly the most egregious showing since the sprint in Brazil, but F1 always has like 4 races in every season where u kinda wonder if ur watching a sport �� This gonna get long but theres some important context I think ur asking for here also I kinda lose it at the end I'm sorry but yuh.

Saur after Vegas everybody was like omfg daddy Marques is here to save us, he addressed some basic track issues and nobody got fucking paralyzed by a pothole exploding thru their ass hurray, so there was hope that maybe Marques was off to a better start than his predecessors and wud maybe give the fans a better ending to the season. But putting Qatar after Vegas is like quizzing somebody on shapes and then asking them to solve a rubriks cube or whtvr.

Qatar was originally built for motogp so the whole thing is designed to be quick and relentless. That means lots of medium to high speed corners, long straights basically 2 hours of edging ur braking. Most drivers consider it a cool track, very demanding sure but fun to drive. For us fans, though, its an odd 1 because theres no reference points so it can be hard to follow. Think of it as the opposite of tracks like Miami or Monaco. RC did a particularly heinous job here because Qatar was Marques' first taste of a track where u either plug the first leak in record time or the whole thing goes to shit. Like, his job.

A lil lesser known fact is that they had Marques on double duty that weekend because the person who replaced him to direct the F2 heat got the boot before her plane even landed and they had NO one else to do it. So Marques had to direct both the f1 AND the f2 Qatar races the same weekend. And thats not all. Just before his inaugural run in Vegas he had just been at the helm of the iconic Macau GP that saw 12 red flags in 40 minutes of qualifying. I wont even tell u how many SC were deployed but only 12 out of 27 drivers finished the race. Ugo my most beloved won so this has nothing to do wid Qatar and Macau and the way its used by the FIA in terms of junior development is a can of worms I cant open rn but like just to show u thats the type of shit Marques had been dealing wid on a weekly basis once we got to Qatar. So truly bro never stood a chance.

When Alexs mirror fell on track the only possible course of action is to get it OFF. Idc if u wanna do VSC or a full SC u need to clear that track NOWWWWW. 3 cars caught strays from that mf before a SC was even deployed. To fuck up that badly that early in the race just showed exhaustion, it showed immaturity and frankly it showed incompetence. Its unacceptable. Wud a different RD have reacted earlier? who tf knows tbh, because these 'mistakes' always happen and they're always dismissed as 'one of those crazy ones' in the season and nothing ever gets done to improve the standards of the personnel ((theres no personnel left btw)).

Then u got the long awaited return of the stop and go and drive thru pens which was super forced and made no sense and immediately showed why those bitches been sat in a corner catching dust because theres literally always better alternatives and they almost never serve actual officiating purposes. 'Precedence' means fuck all if u also have the 'precedence' of not fucking doing that and being way more consistent and delivering better racing. But ohhhh he had to stop in the pits and THEN he had to go back out ohhh he had to go thru an area of the track thats not the right one and lose a bunch of time and become essentially worthless in the race we love when competitive cars do that. Sorry this isnt directed at u I just have a very particular beef wid fans who act like drive thrus and stop and go's are these celestial artifacts that are gonna restore balance in the universe like the harder u throw the book at these drivers the better the product will become. I cud live 200 lives and not have enough time to explain how thats the actual furthest thing from the truth but ur innocent and ily so lets regroup. ❤️ My actual conclusion to ur q is that this is how things have always been and no they're not likely to improve. Unfortunately I gotta borrow even more of ur time to show ur how truly bleak it cud get real soon.

FIA been circulating a bunch of changes to their rules that are prolly gonna be approved at their general assembly in about 10 days. These 'new statutes' include 1) changing the governing bodys ethics rules so that Sulayem can in fact talk to drivers however the fuck he wants and THEY will be held in contempt for criticizing him 2) the 'compliance officer' responsible for overseeing Sulayems spending cannot report to an independent committee and propose an investigation unless directly asked by the Senate President who .. and ur not gonna believe this .. is appointed directly by Sulayem. 3) yes u understood it correctly FIA will prolly become a system where the FIA president and the president of the senate that he chose decide each other's fate in any ethics inquiry.

Sulayem is up for re-election and its becoming more and more likely that hes gonna run unopposed. A sporting director, a technical director, multiple heads of mobility, communications, legal affairs, the women in motorsport commission, several race directors, stewards, a compliance officer, deputy directors. All fired under his watch. Dozens of others quit.

Stewarding has become so abysmal Max received a one place grid drop AND a penalty point as a mitigating punishment for something he literally didnt do under circumstances that didnt warrant any type of punishment let alone a mitigating one like the document literally says that 'unusually, neither car was on a push lap' because if they had been on a push lap max wud have received a 3 place grid drop but 1 and 63 were not on push laps so naturally we have to give Max a one place grid drop and a penalty point for not doing the thing that he would've been punished for had he done it. This isnt even the most controversial or confusing aspect of this years Qatar race. Im gonna kill m

When the GPDA posted that ig statement telling Sulayem to watch his tone and asking where the money was, these proposed changes to the ethics commission and the financial oversight were the FIA's direct answer. This is my Green Day themed patch vest! It’s gonna be a long 3 part post because I literally love this thing, but I’m open to suggestions for other Green Day themed patches I could do (also this was a Beast to write, so you if you see any typos or spelling mistakes please let me know).

A little background:

I thrifted this as a jean jacket and cut off the sleeves to make it a vest. Then I used the fabric of the sleeves to make pockets and inside pockets to the vest, since the original jacket had no pockets whatsoever. This way, I was able to make the pockets as bigs as I wanted (about the size if a cd case). Unfortunately I have no pictures of it before I modified it, but thats what I did to it.

Working at a craft store, I get to thoroughly abuse the discount offered to employees. I bought a bunch of cool fabric in the smallest size cuts our store allows. Then I just hand stitched each strip into the inside of the jacket with black thread so it wouldn’t be as visible from the outside.

From left to right in the picture the fabrics are:

ACDCs Highway to Hell album cover, Beetlejuice (The Movie), Aerosmith logo, Nightmare on Elm Street, a bunch if skulls and grey roses, Mandolorian fabric with various characters helmets on it, Pink Floyd fabric with the inflatable pig from Animals, a bunch of overlapping Gizmos from Gremlins showing various expressions, and Back to the Future fabric with the DeLorian on it.

The inside pockets also have their own separate linings. On the right pocket is Scooby-Doo fabric with the gang on it, and some rainbow paw print fabric that I thought was cute. On the left pocket in some Sonic the Hedgehog fabric with Sonic, Tails, Rouge, Knuckles, Cream, Eggman, Blaze, and Silver inside rings, and the other fabric on the left pocket is a black fabric with the Queen logo on it in white.

Again using my employee discount, I got a ton of our different stud trim and messed around with what I though looked cool. I started by just straight up fabric gluing the trims to various seams in the jacket as I saw fit, and then sewing the trim down after that as a precaution (thimbles my beloved).

Okay now for the patch tour. Every time I try to make a patch vest of some kind I get disappointed in myself with the results. So to avoid that for this project since this vest has been my favorite so far, I decided to make it Green Day themed to start. Then I can see where it goes from there. I tried to have one patch for each studio album, so I’m going in order of album.

1,039 Smoothed out Slappy Hours- Paper lanterns is my favorite song from this album. I just painted the song title on black fabric with white paint first, and went over in in color when the white had dried. The letters are are all capitalized and slightly staggered on purpose. The green paint should glow in black light.

Kerplunk- just screen printed the flower and ironed in onto black fabric. I do mostly song titles for the other albums, so I was just trying to do something that wasn’t a song title (although I’m thinking of making a Christie Rd sign).

Dookie- i found this shirt at a thrift store and I already own one, but I just knew it would make a sick back patch. I had some leftover fusible interfacing from a project I did in April, so I fused some to the back of the section of the shirt I cut out to make the patch, and then again to another plain black piece of fabric cut from the back of the Dookie shirt. I used some very strong, washable fabric glue and glued the two pieces together. This made for a very thick, very durable back patch. I rolled a bottle over the two fabrics to smooth it out and really get the glue to stick. I sandwiched the patch between two large flat surfaces, and put some heavy items on top of it for 24 hours. Finally, I pinned the patch down and sewed it.

Insomniac- I had a little bag of letters cut out of old shirts I couldn’t wear anymore, and thought the ransom note aesthetic fit Insomniacs vibe perfectly. Walking Contradiction is my favorite song off of Insomniac. That is often my reasoning behind most of the patches I made for this vest. I have a big thing of modge podge that I bought for a project that never ended up getting finished. I used this modge podge to seal a lot of these patches, giving them a slightly shiny finish. For this, I used the modge Podge as glue and a finish to keep the letters from falling off. When I took this picture the vest wasn’t complete, but I also added a couple stitches onto each letter as reinforcement in case the letters end up falling off.

So, the thing I've found I struggle most with in art is visualizing the way clothing and different fabrics fold in different positions. Ideally I'd do still lifes to study it but my house's lighting sucks and my house is small, rip. Do you have any tips on how to figure out what folds happen where and when? Just curious since we've spoken a bit about art before :)

BUT onto the actual question because i can ramble about my eq rewrite for actual hours: how i draw folds in clothes is kinda dumb, especially when you look at my skeches, but i follow the curves on a charaters body and where the fabric would naturally set and then draw the folds n such from there, i had drawn something to help but halfway through i realized it didnt make much sense, so for the first image is what i intally drew, ft rarity, then an annotated version of my ref for her.

i think hte main thing to remeber and what helped me the most is that clothes are worn over the body, so although wrinkles and folds follow how the body moves there is somehting under there, so you need to make space for it so like in this one you can imagine kind of how raritys body is positioned and all that (( her arms a little wonky buuuut ))

then!!! i wanted to talk about faces!!! for side profiles... i really struggle with them T-T because i try to give each character theyre own silhouette and the best help i can give is that if you need to you can change the proportions to make it look right,,,, i wish i could talk more about it but honestly i just wing it. BUT YEAH honestly a lot of minor art choices i dont think about are built up from years and years and years of sturggiling with it, so much that honestly when i drew pinkie last night i caught myself off guard haha

I actually think myself to be pretty good at debates. Its just that i really cant discuss anything with overly emotional people. I know it sounds kind of mean but it stresses me out when I present my logical and well constructed arguments and the other person starts crying?? ahhh. that's understandable though. it can get frustrating when others get are clouded by emotion to listen to any other viewpoint. whenever i'm trying to convince people like that to see my side of things, i usually just try to play to their emotions, vocabulary, etc. to show that i'm just trying to have a genuine conversation with them. usually when you find the right language and tone, they begin to understand there's no threat and start engaging back. that happened a lot with aizawa, actually.

it can be a tedious and very much like walking on eggshells at first, but it's satisfying to see, and makes it easier to understand each other in later conversations. and, when i think about it, it's a little ironic how you have to control your own stress and frustration when the person you're debating starts getting stressed and frustrated too. huh. just noticed that.

anyways. that bit about the anger with debating human rights is absolutely true though. i still don't get why people try arguing those at all.. it's sickening, but sentient flash sacks will be sentient flash sacks, i guess.

I guess you should just try to keep the other person calm? As in, try to take a less argumentative tone, so that both of you are calm enough to present your points on a logical sequence to the other. If they're still worked up, then the only thing you can do is back off.

Another interesting alternative to consider is having these debates over text. Like RD pointed out, it is indeed less taxing emotionally to debate on text compared to in person. And I certainly prefer it to in-person. So...if you really care about debating with the other person, you could try to do it over text.

Seeing the reaction Fire emblem fans have with villain makes me ask myself question. Such as... was there ever a good fire emblem villain that's not commically evil ?

lyon and arvis work rather well as tragic villains for different reasons.

for its brevity i'd say ludveck in RD works really well as an antagonist for elincia who well evil isn't comically so, and in fact ludvecks evil works because its an altogether more grounded evil.

lehran and his whole plan to basically end the world because of a disillusionment with life and the nature of people also works well as a sympathetic villain within the confines of RD's themes.

zephiel and hardin, zephiel definitely more so, are fundamentally villains built on the tragedy inherent in their pasts that led to warped perceptions of the world around them.

hell, despite the whole child murder thing going on in fe4 geanology goes out of its way to emphasize how many of the people opposing seliph in gen2 aren't strictly bad people on their own just complacent in a terrible system.

this is all to say, that fire emblem has a lot of good villains built on not being comically evil. in fact especially in the past thats what fe's bread and butter ultimately was for its villainous cast. one of the reason i liked a lot of the c list minor boss villains for instance is that they often had lines reminding you of their own humanity more often then ya'd think. fe9s random comedy pirate boss in ch9 who show up just to pillage some houses at the maps top gets to lament how such a death is hardly unexpected for a sea dog like him.

in that sense i, personally, blame awakening for botching the ball hard in this regard. its cast of minor boss characters are much more universally despicable/comical in nature [which was always present but awakening leans much harder on that] and a lot of its sympathetic villains were underwritten or confusing in nature. not helped by the spotpass gang of 'characters that really should be dead but somehow arent, and now are getting a reprieve that doesn't really gel with previous characterization'.

walhart and especially aversa being the worst for this, because well gangrel being alive is somewhat disbelieving, hes still fundamentally a self serving asshole who's only helping out for his own skin and is only controllable because hes been forced to eat some humble pie. theres a consistent through line there. aversa despite otherwise being a sonia/fe4 hilda type suddenly gets to play the tragic victim of cult magical brainwashing and it is soooo fucking clear that they just wanted an easy out for her own behaviour. say what you will about fe12's eremyia, but fe12 doesn't pretend her actions are suddenly justifiable/forgivable just because gharnef was pulling some strings with magic.

anyways, this is to say that well i've come to terms with fe13 it has undoubtedly influenced modern fe in a number of ways and villain writing is one of the more notable ones in my opinion, often unfortunately to the detriment of the series own writing.
