Part III

Three months. It’s been three months since Magnus has been living with a huge ass whole inside his chest. Like he went for a surgery where the doctors cut him open but never stitched him back again.

Only the insane part about all of this is that Magnus doesn’t even remember the surgery he went in for.

He’s so fucking sure something is going on, that’s he’s losing it but there’s no one he can go to—no one he can confide in with this problem because how do you solve an issue that doesn’t even exist outside his mind.

But even if Magnus doesn’t understand most things, doesn’t have enough clues, one thing he is absolutely sure about. That this, all of this, connect to one man.

Alexander Gideon Lightwood.

Ever since that Magnus met the man, he’s been feeling a hundred different kinds of way.

And he knows he has a tendency to exaggerate, has time and again blew things out of proportion for an infatuation or attraction but this isn’t it. While he knows he’s attracted to Alec and would love to climb him, he knows whatever this is, isn’t his libido making him feel.

This is something far deeper, far more significant.

“Magnus?” A voice, the voice brings him back from his thoughts.

“Hmm?”

“Where did you go?” Alec asks. “We were discussing about the issue with the demon towers in Alicante.”

“Yes, of course. My apologies, Alexander,” he exhales.

“That’s okay.” Alec takes another sip of his drinks and winces, like he does every time.

I should have made him that other drink.

He’s been having random thoughts like this all the time.

That Alec would prefer a cocktail over this beer he keeps on asking for.

That he would like chocolate bars.

Or that he would like his coffee better if he’d put two cubes of sugar instead of one.

He doesn’t know why but he keeps on thinking he knows more about Alec than he does and what an insane fucking thought is that?

He finally goes to Catarina with this. It surprises him when Catarina doesn’t dismiss him.

“Weirder things have happened in our world, Magnus. If you think something is wrong, we should atleast check it.”

He pulls Cat in a hug, relieved that she believes him. Because of Cat doesn’t believe Magnus, what choices does he have left with?

They go over all the possible theories but come up with nothing.

And then everything goes to shit one fine night as the lot of shadowhunter stands in Magnus’s loft for a demon summoning.

Magnus remembers a demon summoning between the very same loft, one that hadn’t ended well. He’d hoped that this one would be different.

He’s proved wrong not ten minutes later when a memory of the person you loved the most resurfaces for everyone to see.

A memory of Clary smiling appears from Jace’s mind.

A memory of Simon and Alec laughing together from Isabelle.

Magnus sees a small smile appear on Alec’s face at the memory.

It’s Alec’s turn and there’s a memory of Isabelle and Jace and Max.

He expects Alec to smile at the memory but a sad smile appears on his face and Magnus wonders for a second before his heart breaks. He imagines how suffocating and heartbreaking it must be to be married and not in love.

Alec and Lydia do not love each other is a fact that Magnus picked up on very quickly. It’s a marriage of convenience.

He thinks of Alec’s rare smiles that he’s only ever witnessed occasionally. Alec is smart and beautiful and has a dry sense of humour that never fails to make him laugh.

He’s fighting for a better world for shadowhunters and downworlders. He fights every single minute of his life with the world and Magnus wishes that the man had one place, in his home, with his partner where he didn’t have to fight.

Alec sniffles at the memory and looks away but there’s a second when both their eyes match. Magnus looks away for he can’t see Alec in pain and it’s insane because he barely knows the man.

They’ve formed an easy friendship now but that’s what it is—a friendship. Because Alec is married, even if it’s in name, there are lines that Magnus would never cross. And Alec doesn’t seem the type to either.

Then Simon and Clary’s turn comes and for both of them, it’s a memory of the other one. They exchange a beautiful smile at that.

And then in an instant, everything turns to hell when it’s his turn because this time, it’s a memory of Alec.

It’s from one of those rare days when Alec laughed in a way that made his eyes crinkle at the corners. The memory focuses on Alec’s faces and anyone with a single functioning braincell could feel Magnus’s feelings.

“What the fuck?” Jace yells, followed by everyone else.

Alec breaks the circle as he stands up, his eyes widen, face filled with horror.

“Magnus—what?”

He looks embarrassed and it quickly changes to anger. “How could you—what?” Alec tries but nothing else comes up.

“Alexander, listen,” Magnus swallows, knowing that if Alec leaves, he’s never going to be able to fix this. Even though he doesn’t know what this is—he needs Alec to stay. “I know this must all be confusing. It’s for me as well but I think that there’s more to what we’re seeing. There’s something between us and I—-“

Alec raises a hand.

There’s a pin drop of silence before Alec stares at him, fire in his eyes as he says, “Don’t ever come near me again.”

Isabelle and Jace’s eyes sadden suddenly, as if they know, and he’s sure they know why Alec is so shocked about this. Isabelle puts a comforting hand on his shoulder before they all leave.

Clary tries to stay but Magnus asks her to leave.

He needs time.

He falls to the floor, clutching his head in his hand as he tries to figure out what’s wrong. He yells out of despair, of feeling like he’s living with half his organs, half his mind, half his memories and all the pain let’s him to lose control and Magnus unleashes his magic onto the world. He needs to get Alec out of his brain so he wracks inside his brain and takes out all the memories of Alec, from every pit and crevice inside his brain and throws them outside.

A few second in, Magnus is surrounded by blue magic around him, memories and memories of Alec around him. Magnus’s eyes widen as he goes through them.

There are hundreds of memories and he knows for a fact that while these are his memories, he doesn’t remember living them.

There’s his first meeting with Alec. First—first meeting.

Alec and Magnus playing polo.

Alec grinning as he cooks French roast for them.

Dancing.

Alec almost dying. Multiple times.

Magnus in Edom. Alec in Edom.

Smiles and happiness and love—so much love.

The one that completely breaks Magnus’s heart is the one where they’re getting married.

And their wedding night.

Alec becoming Inquisitor and kissing the daylights out of him when he tells him.

Then the memories turn more somber. Darker. Sadder.

“I want to go home.” “This is home, Magnus.”

He doesn’t even have to wait, he knows the words already on his lips.

“I wish I had never married you, Alexander.”

And Magnus remembers.

He remembers why it’s been feeling like he’s living without his heart—because he was. His heart was living outside his body, in a world that’s created by Magnus’s anger and despair.

One moment of weakness and Magnus’s entire life changed.

By his own doing.

“Alexander,” Magnus falls to the ground and cries for his husband. “What did I do?“

After a few hours of lying on the floor mourning his life, Magnus goes to Cat.

He tells her everything and cries in her arms. “Cat, Alec—Alec is my husband. I remember. I remember him. Please I need to—I need to fix this. I need him back,” he cries.

It’s an ancient curse is what their research tells them. Now that he remembers, it’s easier to find the source.

“I need to talk to Alec…I—“

A huge gasp leaves Catarina’s mouth and he turns.

“Catarina what? What now?”

“It’s 11:55pm.”

“And?”

“Fuck!” Cat exclaims.

“Catarina, what?”

“I’m sorry, Magnus. But tomorrow morning, you won’t remember him.”

“What?” He says in horror.

“The memories will be lost forever.”

No, they are not. (Technically, all Shadowhunter lineages are distantly related in some way, but very distantly). The only Shadowunter protagonists that are related are:

 dahlia  can  be  very  charming  and  insightful  .  there’s  something  about  her  that  draws  the  attention  of  everyone  in  the  room  when  they  speak  .  inspiration  .  conviction  .  however  ,  it  doesn’t  come  without  its  faults  .  dahlia  burns  out  easily  without  a  set  routine  .  but  she’s  decisive  through  and  through  .  there's  a  difference  in  the  way  she  presents  herself  while  working  vs  when  she's  not  .  she  takes  her  work  seriously  .  committed  to  whatever  she  sets  her  mind  to  .  and  within  her  line  of  work  ,  dahlia's  become  more  selfless  .  stoic  .  not  readily  showing  her  emotions  as  she  once  did  when  she  was  younger  .

A Found Parallel

This is a random post that I decided to make because of a parallel that people may or may not have already realized, but in case you haven't, let me tell you what it is and who is who in the parallel.

But first, a question.

Have you noticed that the core four Shadowhunters in The Mortal Instruments series (Jace, Clary, Isabelle and Alec) mirrors the Merry Thieves in The Last Hours trilogy (James, Matthew, Christopher and Thomas)? Like the main core four group is composed of a Herondale, a Fairchild and two Lightwoods.

To simplify, here is the "who is who" part. Jace is the parallel of James, Clary is the parallel of Matthew, Isabelle is the parallel of Christopher and Alec is the parallel of Thomas.

I don't really know how to explain why I easily connect them with one another other than the obvious facts like both Alec and Thomas are gay, Jace and James both have golden eyes and weirdly both names start with the letter J, Matthew and Clary are both stubborn but loyal and fierce and then Isabelle and Christopher are both fascinated by things (Izzy with history of weapons and Christopher with science!).

Personality wise, they also have connections and parallels with each other. Jace and James are both like headfirst into battle, Matthew and Clary are the fierce friends who are always beside the Herondales, Isabelle and Christopher are the silent yet supportive friends and then Alec and Thomas are like the awkward sweeties who stutters in front of attractive men.

Also, I personally made up a quote that goes "It always takes a Fairchild to save a Herondale" or vice versa. It could go either way, depending on the story but I just notice that Matthew is always cautious everytime James turns into a shadow and goes into Belial's realm with him every time and in the TMI series, Clary was the one who severs Jace's connection to Jonathan (if my memory serves me right?). Like even in TID, Charlotte kinda saved Will by taking him in and my made-up quote applies to it in a sense.

Now, I kinda rambled in this, I just had to share it. Do share if you have observed some parallels between the characters of TSC from one period to another. I would really love to know.

coming up first we have the first Magnus to Alec letter. Listen this shit changed my life and was probably one of the highlights of my fall semester last year I’m not kidding it was that bad. Magnus and Alec made it better. that photo of them and the kids on vacation is my everything. Magnus calling Alec love. it’s everything. anyway we knew that was first

second we have the other Magnus to Alec letter. this one wasn’t hitting as much but it was still Magnus to Alec hence why it’s up at the top. it was still great. highlights include Magnus calling the kids m and r bc I think it’s cute, and Magnus calling Alec my love again. Also the entire last paragraph !

next is unobjectively the best sobh entry if we are not counting my extreme tmi gang bias. which is Livvy speaking to Julian!!!! I love the inflection the actress used and I think she encapsulated Livvy so so well and I LOVE IT. Kitty angst I am here for it. this was so gearing up for what the wicked powers will be. too bad it’s a decade away. anyway this entry slayed the house down!!!! ty needs kit.

next was a super fun surprise and def one of my favs : emma and Julian visiting the tmi gang in nyc!!! even tho it freaked me out because I am so scared of Janus I got to see my BEST FRIENDS jace clary and Alec <3 Simon and Isabelle could’ve been included but I’ll take what I can get. they ordered pizza my favs for that I love my tmi gang takeout food fiends. yeah this was sm fun

BIOGRAPHY

Theresa Gray is the daughter of the greater demon, Belial and an unmarked shadow hunter, Elizabeth Gray. For much of her early life, she had no idea of what she truly was or her parentage. Her parents were killed in a carriage accident when she was just three years old and from then on, Tessa went to live with her aunt Harriet, along with her brother Nate. Her aunt Harriet was overprotective of her and spoiled Nate, but Tessa found her comfort in books, dreaming of the adventures she read about. 

At 16, her aunt Harriet died and upon her death, Nate arranged for Tessa to come to London. When she got to London however, that was when she met the Dark sisters. It transpired that they took her as a kind of prisoner, forcing her to discover her true power of shapeshifting and realise that she was far from mundane. Luckily, she was rescued from them by a young shadowhunter named Will Herondale and he took her back to the London Institute with him. 

During her time with the London Institute, Tessa fell in love with Will and the two ended up in a relationship together and ultimately married. They had two children together, James and Lucie and ran the institute together. They shared many years together until Will died of old age. Tessa endured watching her family die of old age whilst she remained and for a long time, sought refuge in the Labrinth. She finally returned, however, and now is a scholar warlock, along with helping Magnus with High Warlock duties.

Working for Lightwood & Morgenstein, one of the most prestigious law firms in the country, was an honor. Yes, sometimes it was a big headache, most of the time pain in the ass, but for Jace Wayland, it was a dream come true. He adored his colleagues, working with Alec - when he wasn't trying to be the most perfect lawyer in the whole world - was fun, and Isabelle was a goddess among humans. He was on his way to become partner in the firm, as both Alec and Jonathan were going to get the business from their parents; he was earning more money he ever imagined when he was a little orphaned kid hoping for a nice couple to adopt him. He loved his job and adored everything that came with it, but…

That Christmas he seriously thought if it was really worth it. Maybe if he would have lived in a small town, working as a jack of all trades, instead of being a lawyer in a big city, he'd still have the girl.

Jace swirled the whiskey in his glass, the ice clinking as it repeatedly hit the wall. He was staring blankly ahead, sighing. It wasn't like it was a new thing. He expected Clary to leave him, ever since they got together, but the longer they were a couple, the less he was prepared for it. So, when it happened, it hit hard.

Clary had to visit Luke because of some issues she didn't elaborate with the lodge, and what was supposed to be a weekend in her hometown, turned into two weeks just around Christmas.

There was a sharp pinching sensation in Jack's chest as he grabbed the little box in his pocket. It was supposed to be romantic.

He inhaled sharply, and gulped down the whole glass of burning alcohol, before asking for another round. The bartender looked at him concerned, but didn't comment. Good.

Clary and him were like two magnets - he assumed the opposite sides, always pulling each other, but it turned out, they were the same sides all along. Pushing each other farther and farther away until they had no connection to each other at all. It only took one little trip during Christmas to break them apart.

The outside world didn't stop moving. As he blankly stared ahead, outside of the window, he could see the snow falling softly, kids playing and making snowmen, fake Santas collecting for charities. It was a cozy little scene, almost picturesque. He could imagine Clary here. Painting the scenery, being her fiery, lovely self.

It was no surprise she broke up with him. Living in the big city seemed always like her dream, but after rejections and rejections from big studios where she could exhibit her paintings, he felt she started to be disappointed in the whole thing. Being here, reconnecting with her childhood best friend, exhibiting her art in the local community center to sell them and raise money for the lodge was good for her. It worked for her perfectly.

Maybe a bit too perfectly, if Jace allowed himself to be bitter about it. Two weeks here, and she already had a job, a new boyfriend, and a place to live. When they got together, she didn't want to move in with him for almost two years, even when it would have been better for her financially, yet she was already living with her new partner after exactly one day after breaking up with him.

That's what really shows how much better this relationship was for her. If only he didn't buy the ring… if only he didn't come here to ask her to marry him.

His head was throbbing and his heart was aching, but he just wanted Clary to be happy. He didn't make her happy. No point to pretend anyways. He just had to swallow back the lump in his throat just like he swallowed everything. And that time he didn't mean it the dirty way.

"What is a pretty boy like you doing here, all alone?" A voice broke the silence. He was not in the mood to be nice to anybody, especially to someone he didn't even know, so he just ignored the unknown person, hoping he would take the sign.

He didn't.

The person sat down beside him, even when there were a lot of empty seats in the bar. Jace could feel the curious stare, but the longer they waited, the more annoying it became.

"What?" He bit back irritated, not able to take the stare anymore.

"Just wondering how somebody so angelic could look so morose…" the guy commented. The stranger was an attractive man, relatively tall, with mysterious, beautiful eyes and perfectly styled hair, looking like he would fit more on the runway than in the only bar of a small town.

"Mind your own business! Wonder about something else," Jace said a little more forcefully, biting back the colorful swear words he wanted to say. He knocked back the remaining alcohol, but gritting his teeth, he didn't order another round.

Closing his eyes, he sighed. Sure, he was a sarcastic asshole most of the time - it came with being a lawyer -, but this behavior wasn't him.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to-" he started, looking at the guy from under his eyelashes.

"It's okay. I can see you had a bad day, but talking about it might help," the stranger said, more gentle than Jace deserved.

He snorted, shaking his head, "I doubt talking about how my almost fiance broke with me on Christmas day would help. But thanks".

"You are right, that does seem like something that requires more than just one talk. Maybe a second one tomorrow at Moon's Dinner? I'm Magnus, by the way."

Jace couldn't help, but laugh. It was a small, ugly little thing, but it felt freeing. This guy… he was something else, all right. Maybe exactly what he needed.

"That's a date," he joked, and Magnus winked.
