I’m seeing a lot of people claim that the remaining hostages, by virtue of being IDF members are not hostages but prisoners of war. Which, fine, you can make that argument. But if that was the case, under the Third Geneva Convention, prisoners of war have very specific rights, including not being held in close confinement, not being tortured, getting adequate food and water, being given access to medical treatment, being allowed contact with the outside world and their loved ones, and of course visitation by the International Red Cross.

Not a single one of these conditions has been met. They aren’t prisoners of war. They’re hostages. And the International Red Cross doesn’t care about Jews.

Relay races usually involve passing a baton. Owing to the function of batons inside the computer world, this means the relay race is a form of triathlon 

The runner carrying the baton passes it to the lightcyclist, who activates it for the cycling portion of the race. Who then trades it in for a lightjet baton to relay to the pilot, who completes the final aeronautics portion.

Reminding people that Discord is not going to immediately die when they introduce more inane monetization, but also if you want to take back control of the web, moving to another nascent chat service will only delay the inevitable. If y’all really wanna take the web back, IRC is still right there.

The only way to get back to self-sustainable on the web is to get back to the old web. Personal websites, open source software, time-tested self-hosted protocols. Need an individual community center? Forum software for longform, IRC for shortform, it all still exists. It's not just nostalgic or kitsch. This stuff wasn’t just charming, you owned it.
