Two sheets of 2D game assets I made for the small game "Dreamweaver", a contribution to the Metroidvania Month '24 game jam over on Itch.io. There were a total of five areas, three of which were the intro and outro and the final boss arena, which I decided to do in a graphic look - one abstract background and platforms made from text.
For Envy, I made use of Krita's wonderful colouring functions and overlaid my own watercolour textures for an art nouveau look. Paranoia's swamp was created by painting roughly with Painter's oil brushes and using its paper textures. Not seen here, but for the final area I also created nozzles in Painter to paint with pictures, to quickly create a Klimt-esque look of many loosely painted graphic elements.
Not all were used in the final game since jams have tight deadlines, but most made it. I feel like I’m absolutely flying with Lo-Boy development compared to Freedom Lanes.
I implemented and polished a huge amount of features this week that I only show a few of in this clip.
I’ve already implemented the dialogue system in a rudementary way too:
Imagine a Gameboy-knockoff in the black space around the Lo-Boy screen and that’s what it’ll be like when it’s finished.
Well, back to development on the main game for a while! I’ll go back to Lo-Boy here and there whenever I need a break from the more story-driven and systems-based stuff in Freedom Lanes.
Added in melee!! Each character can combo hits (note the different placeholder box colours!) Also put jump through platforms in that react to your weight on them!
