which Operator in your opinion has the biggest disparity between game performance and lore strength?

Weak in-lore, strong in-game: Goldenglow is a hairdresser who has never once experienced combat, takes elementary-school level arts classes to control her (admittedly uniquely powerful, but uncontrolled and wild) arts, and generally has no desire to be on the battlefield, to the point that multiple of her lines are about her panicking or being baffled you select her for combat. In game, she's a 6-star caster who can directly target any enemy from anywhere on the map with pinpoint precision, and is one of the best casters in the entire game. Strong-in-lore, weak in game: Santalla, who many people thought would be a 6-star before Black Forest came out, with a reputation for a legendarily strong control over snow and ice, and a kill count on trained Ursus soldiers potentially in the dozens - is a 5 star splash caster, who, while she has an admittedly strong S2 if you know how to use it, suffers from all of the drawbacks other splash casters do - long attack interval, unreasonably high DP cost, etc.

Honorable Mentions: Weak-in-lore, strong in-game: Upcoming Zuo Le, who is a very young Yanese soldier and not particularly strong as of Vernal Winds: The strongest Musha in the entire game, powercreeping the hell out of Hellagur, who is a very experienced and trained war-veteran

Ch'en the Holungday: Ch'en is very experienced in combat. However, I don't think her putting on a bikini and getting a pressurized water gun would logically make her an infamously overpowered unit Penance: Just a judge with no combat experience, incredibly tanky and able to solo the Patriot stage all by herself in-game. U-Official: Her self-stun ability sounds silly, but being able to stun enemies for that long at 3dp and 0 deployment cost is actually one of the strongest abilities in the game and has saved me from leaking on multiple IS stages. In lore she is a stupid streamer who's money hungry and can't do fucking anything, but she's probably the strongest 1 star unit.

Strong-in-lore, weak-in-game: Rosmontis is an extremely powerful telekinetic caster who can tear buildings apart with her arts, but in-game, her subclasses mechanics mean she's handicapped by basically any enemy with above-average defense, on top of being entirely incapable of hitting aerial units.

Scavenger & Projekt Red: Both members of Kal'tsits personal special execution squad - neither are particularly bad units, but being a member of S.W.E.E.P. should probably realistically put you above 4 and 5 stars respectively. Dusk: A fragment of Sui, able to create pocket dimensions to trap people for extended periods of time within her art, a ridiculously powerful ability: Suffers from many of the same problems as Santalla being a splash caster, but at least her module and being a 6-star makes her better. Most accurately powerful unit: Logos, who in-game is the King of the Banshees and has legendarily powerful arts, is probably the strongest caster in the entire game on CN right now.

@nenestansunsthings I would absolutely love to talk about Deepcolor some more so thank you for giving me this prime opportunity. Although I'll preface everything I'm about to say with the classic 'I am not an expert or even particularly good at the video game Arknights'. I'm not doing big brain clears and I'm usually splashing around waves 1-4 of IS3 at the highest. I get through most new and old content with the classic winning strat of big fish with big numbers.

That being said, this is what you'll need to start off on the path of being a Squid Expert. A Squexpert, if you will. Now then:

This here is going to be your perfect Deepcolor.

Obviously she isn't going to be your go-to for DPS or serious tanking or anything like that, your general use for her is going to be as an opener. With her Module it costs 11 DP to get her and her first tentacle on the field (Yes that's the same amount you could use to put Mountain down instead but that's boring) so for most stages you pop her down asap right after your flagbearer and use her summons to block the early enemies around the map until you have DP to retreat them and set down your Big Boys. Easy, cost-effective, simple.

Aside from that, her summons are decently tanky for their cost so you can also use them to bait ranged attacks or the bomb drones or kill annoying spiders in the corner of the map. She can heal them back up too with her S1 if they survive, something none of the other summoners in the game can do so far (Though most of them have a way to refresh their summons, which Deepcolor can't do without retreating and redeploying). Basically you use the tentacles as mini-Gravels. With her module you'll have seven to work with, which is more than enough to get through most maps.

In SSS she's pretty much going to be a very cheap Supporter you can drop in and retreat immediately for free transfer permits, and in Reclamation Algorithm she's good for quickly scouting out around a new map with her summons. Nothing too fancy for those game modes.

The place I bring her out the most is as a starting pick for IS3, since in the early floors you'll usually have deployment slots to spare that she can fill right up with cheap blockers until you've built up your roster a bit more. You can use her S1 in situations where you need the summons to stay in place for longer, but her S2 can also come in clutch if Gopnik the One Punch or the invisible dog show up and you need to stall. For the cost of 3 whole hope you'll have 7 funny little tentacle guys with 35% dodge (50% at M3) that can keep the bear from hell in one spot for a surprisingly long time even with terrible RNG.

She's unfortunately useless against the duck, but you can't win them all.

You'll also find a whole lot of little spots in maps where you just need something that can safely kill a spider, or bait the stun snipers, etc etc. No she won't carry you past the third floor but she'll pull her weight very well while you're starting off.

Relics Deepcolor has good and/or funny synergy with are:

Glory Pack - Congrats you now have seven stun bombs ready to go anywhere on the map.

Sui's Wrath - And now you have seven random 3K damage airstrikes waiting to drop for 3DP a pop.

Glorious Kazimierz + The Return - 35-50% dodge on all allies in her range means she can really help these bad boys proc when you need them.

Timeworn Poetry Strips - Mostly self explanatory, but also: Unlike Ling, Deepcolor's summoning is only limited by your actual deployment slots. So she can put all 7 of her tentacles down at once with this, which is mostly just very funny to see.

Hand of Flowing Water/Stalwart Aid Books- I wouldn't recommend getting her just because you got these, there are other units that use them way better. Doesn't hurt to have them though.

There aren't any specific operators I can think of off the top of my head that she has unique synergy with, since the whole point of Summoners is just to fill in gaps when they're not soloing stages. But if you put her next to Andreana in your base or on a map I'll consider it a treat for me specifically.

3D modeling recipe

Step 1 - Ideation

1. first Ideated some things I’m interested in – - Maori Culture - Product design - Logo signage - Te wiki o te reo - Birthday Gift

- I then combined these interests and decided to 3D model the “Te wiki o te reo” Logo into earing sized products to gift to my flat mate as a birthday gift as he is well credited for promoting Te Reo.

Step 2 - dimensions

1. First, I started by taking the logo image and scaling it down to small earing sized objects 2. I referenced the dimensions and applied them to my basic hand sketched orthographic drawings of the logo.

Step 3 – 3D modelling/Workflow

I started off modelling the main body.

1st I created the sketch using the sketch tools then applied the mirror modifier to symmetrically model the entire object.

I used the extrusions, combine and mirror functions guided by the orthographic measurements to achieve a 3D model

Next step was to export the file as a stl file for slicing in chitu box as the recommended 3DP was resin style printing.

Slicing:

The file was uploaded and sliced, but 1st the object had to be re scaled to a larger size because chitu box measures in millimetres, whereas my fusion 360 measurement settings were in cm. the fore chitu box slicing software automatically converts centimetres to millimetres

To position the object for optimal printing the object was placed on an angle less than the 45-degree limit. I added plenty support bridges placed in positions where floating islands may occur to avoid printing issues.

Because of a power outage my CAD file was lost when the Computer shut down. However I was fast enough to export a STL for slicing beforehand and create a physical prototype of a 2D image.

The resin printer produced a 4k model, much cleaner than my Tap model that was 3D printed using the standard 3D printing method.

A team from the University of Tskukuba in Japan focused on the investigation of solvents and which ones in particular best facilitate synthesis of polyaniline, an electrically conductive polymer used widely for electronics. In their work they found that a rather common material—that is, iodine—allowed for simple and reliable synthesis of the polymer, paving the way for its use in advanced electronics applications. Indeed, synthesis of polyaniline for industrial-electronics applications has faced a major limitation for a number of decades in the decision as to which solvent to use to best facilitate synthesis of the polymer. Solvents are typically liquids into which other materials dissolve to make a solution. Finding one that’s optimized for the process of synthesizing polyaniline can minimize the cost and complexity of manufacturing and make the material suitable for ink-jet printing processes, researchers said. It also can facilitate novel and useful properties in the polymer material, researchers said. "Polyaniline is an extremely versatile polymer in routine and advanced technologies, but restrictions on which solvents can be used for synthesis have long hindered this versatility," explained University of Tskukuba Professor Hiromasa Goto, one of the researchers on the project, in a press statement. "Our discovery of how to facilitate polymerization in diverse solvents will be useful in basic research and industrial applications." "Electrically conductive paint, advanced rubber blends, and other materials are now straightforward to prepare, which we expect will facilitate product development in diverse fields." Moreover, they found in their research that adding a small quantity of iodine to the reaction mixture allowed researchers to produce polyaniline from aniline sulfate in a single step, they said. Indeed, while many solvents were compatible with the procedure—non-toxic ethanol and dichloromethane, among them—iodine particularly facilitated polyaniline production most likely because it is an electron-acceptor dopant, researchers said. From the data above, I have a clear idea of how I want to illustrate the data within my coding art; I will be creating five seperate shapes/ forms (each environmental factor), then I will bring these all together for my final, in which I will screen print onto a cotton or Linen T-shirt. Within each factor, I will use both the percentage and the gram numbers for each material; The two materials (linen and cotton) will each have their own colour, and the percentage will be thicker and possibly more transparent than the grams.

Each factor has very varied data in size in comparison to each other, especially within the grams. As each factor will create an individual art form, I am able to divide/ multiply the numbers within each set (where appropriate) to make the numbers smaller or larger so that they are easier to use and apply to the coding process, via processing.

The reason for these particular changes within the factors, is that I wanted to keep all of the numbers within all factors to the lower end of 3 significant figures (3sf) or the higher end of 2 significant figures (2sf). I kept the ‘Fresh Water Aquatic Eco-toxicity’ the same as I thought having a low data point could create an interesting outcome, and the number for cotton was already quite high.

Creating The Code:

I am going to create each factor individually on processing and then save these as individual pdfs. From this, I may import all pdf files into photoshop to create the abstract work, or I will play around with processing to see if it’s possible to create what I am looking to generate.

My coding design below, takes inspiration from the ‘class birthdates sample data’ that we collected as a class. I really liked the circular ring design that the code created. I’m wanting to develop this further to illustrate the factors and the  differences between the linen and the cotton t-shirt within these factors.

Through generating these code images, I have come to realise that you can not see the differences within the materials; linen and cotton, which is one of the biggest aspects within my concept. 

I will need to repeat this process, creating floats for each individual circle ring, and alter either the shape, colours or opaqueness/ transparency of each material. Or, I can simplify this and just create basic ellipses/ or another shape, by substituting in each number from the data within each factor.  

Development One:

Within this development, I have created each factor individually; Primary energy consumption, Water consumption, Global warming potential, eutrophication, and fresh water aquatic eco-toxicity. 

Within each of these factors, I have shown the variation between each t-shirt material; Linen and cotton. I have done this by using different colours; green for linen, blue for cotton. Then, I have further refined these into percentage % and grams g; percentage being more transparent and having a thicker stroke of 5, compared to grams, with no transparency and a stroke of 2.5.

However, within this development I have come across an error within the code, where one of the rings in each sketch appeared black and had very little stroke weight; I need to ask Tim or Olly for help on this.

To develop further:

To develop further I want to bring the five circular sketches (factors) together to make a more abstract, and creative design. Whether I achieve this by bringing all of the rings into a new processing file and change the position on the page, and then put them into the draw function so I can play with mouseX and mouseY. 

Alternative ways of developing could be to eliminate either the grams or percentage from the table data, as they are essentially the same thing. From here I can change up the design, and create each factor’s sketch using only two circles, where I can then trial different ways to layout the factors; whether that be taking inspiration from a Venn diagram - overlapping the circles, using transparency, strokes and stroke weights.

Development Two:

Within this development I have decided to eliminate the percentage data from the table; allowing me to focus on the differences between the linen t-shirt’s impact on the environment and the cotton t-shirts impact.

Development Three:

Now that I have this design formulated, I can begin to bring these together on processing instead of via photoshop. This will just allow me to eliminate any negative factors that may effect the quality of the design, e.g blurriness, size mishaps etc.

I began by creating individual pdfs, using the OneFrame pdf export via; 

File --> Examples --> Libraries --> PDF Export --> OneFrame.

From here I created a new processing document, and wrote the code all together to form design one, as seen in the photoshop file above;

This will be my final screen print design, however, I will be developing this design further for mockup examples and aspects within my booklet, such as; Code design into different environments; Fabric/ t-shirt company, t-shirt tag, website mock up, shop window of thrift store, poster on wall etc.

My only concern is that the design is too fine, which will be hard to get precision.

Colours will be exact to what is on the screen/ rather than using blue or green ink for a craft store

Obviously the image below is a lot more technical that the method I would use; print off sticker on vinyl shine paper and heat press onto T-shirt using baking paper and iron. But the image below gives you an idea of how heat transfer works.

So, to develop this design further, I want to create the titles of each of the factors and bring these into the design, next to the factor’s circle it belongs to. This will make my code easier to read, allowing the viewers to understand the environmental differences between a linen t-shirt and a cotton t-shirt.

Additional process:

Currently this design illustrates the environmental impact between a cotton t-shirt and a linen t-shirt. Linen is green (122, 204, 90), cotton is blue (91, 170, 207). From this, the design illustrates that a linen t-shirt is more environmentally friendly than a cotton t-shirt in terms of Water consumption, eutrophication, and fresh water aquatic eco-toxicity. Linen is also very similar to cotton in Global warming potential, in terms of environmental impact factors.

Development Four; Typography in processing:

In this development, I will be adding typography via processing. This will include; the environmental factor titles, the number of grams (g) within each material and possibly a project title.

charAt() - gives us an individual character at a specific index, there is an array; numbers, objects, its an ordered list of ‘stuff’ we access each individual element of the array by its index; starting with 0 and counting up. So to draw the first character of text, use the formula: text(s. charAt(0), x,y);

I found that the text looked a little bit blurry when the sketch opened up and when the sketch was exported as a PDF. 

Because of this, I think I will go back into photoshop to create the titles so that the work/ mockups I produce are executed at high quality.

Below are possible contexts/ environments/ applications for my code; these are just initial concepts: These are just concepts, no typography developed yet.

T-shirt; simple t-shirt design, t-shirt tag e.g. 100% cotton, 100% linen, and/ or t-shirt worn during an environmental march, in a thrift store, etc

Poster; in the window of a thrift store, in a shopping mall to create awareness.

Logo; for a t-shirt company, or fabric making company.

Website; mockup for t-shirt or fabric company, perhaps even Greenpeace?

Booklet/ zine; including all of the above aspects; could be photographed on a on a table, someone holding the book, etc.
