welcome the the sixteenth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

“No, really, he’d love to,” Lance said into the phone, just as Keith pressed the button for the kettle to start heating up.

Those words were enough to raise Keith’s suspicions just a tad. He shot Lance an inquisitive glance while opening the cabinet to retrieve his box of morning tea, but his husband was the picture of innocence, flipping casually through a Home Depot catalog they had received in the mail yesterday.

“Oh, definitely. If you need someone to paint your insides white, Keith’s your man.”

Keith dropped his box on the counter, tea bags spilling out onto the granite.

Keith is having a normal, relaxing morning. Lance throws him a curveball.

this one made me LAUGH. out LOUD. it’s domestic and fluffy and FUNNY dear god, like it’s such a lance thing to do and such an objectively funny prank that i just!! literally just typing this makes the urge to reread it too great my hand has been forced.

Lance struggles with his attraction to Keith during training, and it all comes to a head when Keith corners him afterwards to ask why he was off his game today.

one of my fave vld tropes EVER is lance being whipped and then equally as furious that he’s attracted to keith at all. it’s endlessly funny to me. and then keith being the eyebrows raised, not surprised one??? gets me every time. also keith is a massive sweetheart in this fic and i love him

“A pillow fort sleepover!” Lance cried out, leaping up with such alacrity that Pidge had to grab her laptop to prevent it from sliding to the floor.

“No way, we're not—” Pidge stopped and blinked, exchanging a glance with Hunk, then looking back at Lance again. “... Oh.” She evidently had not been expecting such a tame suggestion. “Okay.”

Or, Lance is bored out of his mind and decides to organize a sleepover with the squad. Nonsense ensues, and Lance works through some confusing emotions—particularly those involving a certain mullet-haired team leader.

okay there are too many good things about this fic i cannot choose which to highlight, and so i will mention them all. ahem: a) lance is a ray of sunshine who regularly uses his power of cuteness to his advantage, b) adorable team bonding, c) shiro is a dorky nerd, d) HEALTHY LANCE AND ALLURA COMMUNICATION, e) krolia and romelle have actual characters, f) lance has allergies which isn’t rly important but he gives me a vibe that he’s allergic to several things and it’s very validating to see it in fic, g) lance validation and feeling expression for the piece of shit game show episode, h) observant lance!! and i) literally the most painful and necessary and well-written klance fight i’ve read in a while! hurt badly but was resolved wonderfully 10/10

4. Terminal Velocity by @speakswords [GORE WARNING]

The only fate worse than being tortured to death is watching, helpless, while the person you love most takes your place.

this is one of my fave vld fics of all time. although fair warning it is very violent for a good chunk of time. the story is EXCELLENT, the entire thing will have u biting ur nails in terrified anticipation and i mean that literally. whole time i was gagged. at the edge of my seat. AND i have several specific lines screenshotted bc the pure fucking devotion and care knocked me out of the water

5. you and me are cosmic dust by Yuu_chi

Knowing that your team loves and trust you no matter what and believing it are two very different things.

i LOVE keith angst. i know this fandom is very langst heavy and honestly i am too but sometimes keith angst is so so good. and this fic is one of them!! excellent read and features observant lance as well. OH and there’s a little sprinkling of suave keith in here too lol

So I am, in fact, a whore for homesick (but happy) Lance. A big family, a sob-fest of a reunion, and can go on for days abt how much he loves them

But I'm also a HUGE whore for langst fics where he was abused or smth (because I can't go one hyper fixation without projecting)

So langst fic, where he grows up on the streets of Cuba homeless but eventually gets picked off the streets and put into foster care. He's still young and cute enough to where he's adopted by the second or third try, but it's by a big family

They're good to him, but borderline neglectful. Not intentionally, but there's six other kids to take care of, and Lance isn't even the youngest so he's not a priority, per se. He gets attention, but rlly only when he does something considered praise worthy.

Getting straight A's, becoming the soccer teams captain, getting a scholarship, those kinds of things. And his siblings realize this too, so its a house full of kids older than Lance doing cool things and getting praise and attention for it (which is the beginning of Lance's insecurities)

Lance gets complimented a total of 11 times after he's adopted. Yes, he counted. And yes, after each time he cried tears of joy.

But he's flinchy, doesn't like being surprise touched, hesitant to share, eats his food like someone is gonna take it from him, and in general, has all the signs of a fucked up childhood.

But Lance is rlly good at playing it off and avoiding subjects (occasionally outright lying) so no one rlly catches on

Except for Shiro and Keith

Shiro has seen all these signs in Keith when he adopted him, and Keith had seen the signs in himself and other kids shoved into the foster care system. They talk it out with the team (minus Lance)

And from there it snowballs into one realization after another, bc after its brought up everyone starts piecing together little pieces of the puzzle that is Lance

And all collectively and actively try to assure Lance subtly that he’s safe, wanted, and reinforce that he can talk to them if he needs to. 

Doesn’t really help, so Hunk and Shiro (separately, of course) try to talk to Lance about it. Doesn’t go over well, if fact, it kind of outright backfires when Hunk (after Shiro tried the first time) tries and is, not quite yelled at, but he sure is kicked out of Lance’s room and is ignored for a full two days 

Keith get’s him alone in the observatory or smth, and they trauma bond essentially 

And then a slow burn from there of team bonding and Keith and Lance slowly falling in love

I headcanon that the first time Lance and Keith hugged in private was after Lance talked about his homesickness and how much he missed his family.

Keith, who isn't a touchy guy, offer a hug for support and he knew people do that to help others. What he didn't expect was to tear up himself because Lance's hugs feel so safe and comfortable for him

Terwijl institutionele investeerders hun vertrouwen in Bitcoin als een legitieme activaklasse laten groeien, staat de Amerikaanse Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) voor een uitdaging in een rechtszaak die de regelgevende status van cryptocurrency airdrops betwist. Laten we duiken in deze boeiende ontwikkelingen die het landschap van cryptocurrencies transformeren. GP Zagreb (day-1): Mina knap brons, na winst tegen Nelson-Levy & Arnaes Odelin.

Mina Libeer (°97; /-57kg; 12° WRL; JS Merelbeke): 3° (4 own)   Nooit fan geweest van het judo van Mina, maar moet toegeven dat ze steeds meer “cool, calm en collected” op de judomat verschijnt, zoals Neil Adams dat dan pleegt te noemen, en soms onverwacht en mooi kan toeslaan op een moment dat de tegenstand het niet meer verwacht. En dat dit ook Timna Nelson-Levy en  Arnaes Odelin overkwam, vond ik best wel opmerkelijk. We zijn nog vroeg in deze nieuwe Olympische cyclus, en daar waar ik overtuigd was dat Mina zich niet zou plaatsen voor Tokyo, lijkt het mij nu eerder waarschijnlijk dat ze Paris wél zal halen; als énige Vlaamse bij de vrouwen trouwens ! Ze zal namelijk nog voldoende en regelmatig in de top-7 van de WTour belanden, en dat moet ruim volstaan voor Olympische kwalificatie.  Opent hier in 1/16-fin tegen Ana Rosa (°97; Dom; 70° WRL) en vecht in 1/8-fin tegen Ophelie Vellozzi (°00; Fra; 172° WRL; in 2020 onverwacht 2°EK u21/-57kg). Beide kampen verliepen moeizaam, zonder veel overschot, maar er was wél telkens dat éne moment dat het verschil maakte: tegen de Dominikaanse scoorde ze na één minuut met maki-komi (waza-ari); de française nam ze handig over met sumi-gaeshi, gevolgd door houdgreep (ippon).  De wedstrijd tegen de absolute top kwam er in 1/4-fin. nl tegen oud-wereldkampioene Christa Deguchi (°95; Can; 23° WRL; 5° WK’21 & 5° GSL Antalya’22). Eén week geleden tegen Jessica Klimkait, nu dus mag/moet Mina  tegen haar eeuwige Canadese rivale; >> video  Mina kan Deguchi nooit bedreigen, maar vecht wel onvervaard met open visier, en heeft de verdienste om de Canadese te dwingen tot haar langste gevecht op dit tornooi; na 5′44″min echter een mooie, lage o-uchi-gari met full control van Christa en einde wedstrijd;    In repechage tegen Timna Nelson-Levy; een pittig duel met opnieuw een verdienstelijke Mina; maar het belet niet dat ze met 2 shido’s tegen 0 (false attack & passivity) de GS ingaat; na 45″sec ontsnapt ze aan een overname, maar voorts bijt ze scherp van zich af; héél knap tenslotte dat ze na een kamp van 7′49″min zéér lucide is bij een transitie naar grond en Nelson-Levy kan wurgen ! Dit is de beste wedstrijd die ik ooit van Mina zag; >> video.   In de kamp voor brons tenslotte tegen Arnaes Odelin Garcia (°98; Cub; 20° WRL); samen met de 4 (!) Brazilianen (Rafaela Silva; Jessica Lima; Ketelyn Nascimento; Jessica Pereira) domineert ze Zuid-Amerika; ze is huidig PanAm vice-kampioene, versloeg vorige week in Budapest Nelson-Levy, maar sneuvelde voor brons tegen Klimkait;  >> video ; de Cubaanse overpowered Libeer en zeker naar het einde van de kamp toe heb je de indruk dat een score van Odelin in de lucht hangt; maar dan een zo goed als perfecte yoko-sutemi-waza beweging van Mina: ippon en Odelin zwaar ontgoocheld. Opnieuw brons voor Libeer op een WTour en het lijkt onwaarschijnlijk, maar schat deze alvast een pak hoger in, dan het brons van Paris, october vorig jaar. Oprecht proficiat ! 

     Onze andere 2 vrouwen, die Wallonië vertegenwoordigen, sneuvelden helaas in hun eerste kamp. Fiona Vanbiesbroeck (°00; /-52kg; no WRL) : out (0 own)  - voor onze eigenste Fiona, die net cum-laude haar 4de-jaar geneeskunde afwerkte, werd het een eerste kennismaking op het hoogste niveau (met dank aan de FFBJ), maar geen genade vanwege Ana Perez-Box (°95; Esp; 24° WRL): ippon na 3′22″min; Fiona kan niet uit de mislukte uchi-mata van de Spaanse stappen en haar doorsturen, maar wordt zelf nog doorgestuurd (waza-ari) en uiteindelijk ook nog een houdgreep van Perez-Box, die goed volgt op de tomoe-nage van Fiona. >> video. Loïs Petit (°99; /-48kg; 58°WRL; Top Niveau Tournai): out (0 own)  - voor Loïs een heel ander verhaal: zij moet in ronde-1 (1/16-fin) tegen uiteindelijk winnares Wakana Koga (°01; Jpn; 16° WRL): de Japanse wereldkampioene u21/-48kg (2019) werd vorig jaar (2021) als junior, winnares van de GSL Paris, (met winst tegen Shirine Boukli & Melanie Clement), maar werd bovendien ook vice-wereldkampioene bij de Seniors (na een all-Japan final tegen Natsumi Tsunoda); dit jaar werd ze 3° op een volwaardiger GSL Paris (na opnieuw verlies tegen Tsunoda in 1/2-fin). En hier dus raast ze als een wervelwind doorheen de Grand Prix en beslist ze iedere kamp vóór halfweg. >> video Koga - Petit : waza-ari na 12″sec; en Wakana is zo vriendelijk om aan Fiona te tonen hoe je wél uit een uchi-mata stapt en dan iemand doorstuurt.. :-) Einde tornooi voor Loïs na 1′min. 

Bonus: en wat voor één: een finale tussen twee Olympische kampioenen, oftewel: Distria Krasniqi (°95; Kos; /-48kg) versus Uta Abe (°00; Jpn; /-52kg)  >> video : waza-ari + osai komi, net na halfweg; >> IJF verslag  =  JudoInside verslag

Summary: The cage is far, far too small to fit Lance, but the Galrans still force him into it. He’s then loaded like a piece of cargo on a ship bound for a cruel, painful destination and the journey to get there is just as harsh. As Lance floats in and out of consciousness over the days he comes to the conclusion that he’s dreaming when Keith of all people appears in the cargo hold (on a ship in the middle of space) to rescue him. But maybe that’s because it’s no dream at all. It has to be a nightmare because there is nothing crueler than false hope like this. But it seems so real and maybe… maybe he’s not dreaming after all.

Story snippet:

Something was there.

It was making soft tapping noises.

Feet.

Footsteps.

But the cargo hold was still pitch dark which meant they hadn’t landed which meant it wasn’t the Galrans which meant something else was there and Dios what was in here with him what was it going to do what was—

The sounds grew louder.

Closer.

Lance moaned low in the back of his throat.

The sounds immediately stopped.

And oh no.

Oh no no.

He’d just alerted whatever it was that he was in here too.

And, and now it was going to…

Lance didn’t want to go to the commander to be tortured to death but…

But he was less terrified of that than being eaten alive.

He doubted the cage would protect him.

He let out another low sob at the very thought.

Dangerous.

Not dangerous.

What was the cage, exactly?

The sounds started up again, quicker.

Closer.

Would it be quick?

Would it hurt?

Would—

“Lance?”

The sound — his name, that was his name — was accompanied by a flare of light and Lance may have screamed as it seared  against his eyes, closed as they were, and that was followed by a “holy fuck!” and the light shut off just as fast.

But as much as the sudden light had hurt, Lance ignored that pain.

Because he knew that voice.

And it didn’t belong to some creature of darkness and nightmares.

Although certain hairstyles could be considered a nightmare.

Lance let out a sound between a sob and a laugh that hurt both his body and his throat and made his head pound but he didn’t care.

Because somehow, against all the insane odds, he was being rescued.

He was being rescued by Keith.

A Game Called Blood and Bones

Summary: 

“You need someone to deliver your message and get the money, right?” Lance asked. “And someone to stay as your hostage?” He swallowed, eyes darting to Pidge. “Take… take me instead.” The alien captain stared. And then he threw back his head and laughed. “You?” he came down from his mirth. “Why would we want you when we have her?” “Because,” Lance kept his voice even. “I’ll… I’ll tell you all I know about the Blades. And, and the Coalition. Information goes for a lot, doesn’t it?”

Except… Lance doesn’t know any actual valuable information. And the aliens are not happy about that. Not happy at all.

Story snippet:

“Now,” the knife brushed against his throat and Beard loomed over him once more, blurry this time through reflexive tears that lined Lance’s eyes. “Let’s try this again.”

Lance didn’t dare nod and even as he swallowed he felt the knife prick his throat.

“Okay,” he whispered.

The knife lifted away.

“So, so the Blades of Marmora…”

His fingers curled into his palms, nails digging into his flesh.

He tried to brace himself.

“They’re made up of Galrans.”

Silence echoed.

Lance said nothing more.

He did scream though as the knife impaled his other thigh.

[WIP Langst Mini Fics and Ideas #1]: “Who Am I?” (Scene ?)

It’s been a year since I last updated any of my VLD fics and written any of the prompts I have piled up in my inbox. Heck, I’m not even updated to any of the langst fics or whump fics or any fics in the VLD fandom. So this time, I’m going to post all the WIP langst fics and ideas I have stored in my folders.

Who knows, your opinions might jump start my motivation to continue writing.

This was one of the scenes I was planning to add in the fic “Who Am I?”

This fic was set before the end of season 2

“When I grow up, I wanna be a space pilot!” Lance said it with all the conviction of a child declaring his dream for the whole wide world. The setting that they were resting along the shore and watching the clouds passing by only added to the childish effect of those words.

“Space? Like...outside of the earth?” Leo looked at his brother with wide eyes full of amazement for his older twin.

“Yeah! I am going out there! Flying with the stars! And meeting pretty aliens!”

Leo and Lance laughed when they imagined this.

“That’s impossible, Lance!”

“Why?”

“Other planets are very, very, veeeerrrryyyy far away from us.” Leo stretched out his hands in an attempt to measure the sky, “It’s impossible for you to meet aliens.”

“There is no such thing as impossible, Leo! Always remember that!”

“Ahuh~”

And the two of them settled in a quiet company. Just listening to the waves created from the ocean and letting their feet be splashed a little bit. They were really closed and Leo loved this moments were they were just spending time talking about their dreams and stories spun from their own imaginations.

“What about you, Leo?”

“Hm?”

“What do you want to be?”

“Well… I surely don’t want to get out in space but…”

“But?”

“I want to make a novel about your adventures in space!”

And so they made a pact. Lance would set out there someday and Leo would write his tales of heroism.

They were partners in crime.

That was until two became one...

Lance laughs faintly. “How about we save it for—for the next time we meet in person?”

“When’s that happening, by the way? It’s been a while.”

“Meaning you miss us dearly, don’t you?” he teases. Keith grumbles at him, and he grins to an absent audience. “But, ah, I don’t think we’ll see each other anytime, um, soon, unfortunately.”

“Things are getting busy on your end, huh?”

Lance hums. His gaze slides down to his right leg. To torn skin and shredded muscle, white bone peeking out. To blood, to a soaked-through suit, to the pool under his shin painting the snow-dusted ground a stark red.

He smiles weakly. “Something like that.”

‘“Lance.” Keith pushed himself up, looked more directly at him, and Lance jolted out of his thoughts just in time to turn away. He pretended it was just to take another bite. But the food was going cold and the taste grew bitter and bland on his tongue. He chewed slowly as Keith watched him with a frown. 

“It’s okay to not be okay.”

The comment was so out of the blue that Lance dropped his fork and turned to Keith, brows furrowed. They hadn’t been talking about that at all, and Lance was sure that he had done well to act normal. His room wasn’t messy and his grades hadn’t really dropped that much and he still wore his shorts and T-shirts when it was hot so what gives? “What do you mean? I’m fine.”

“But it’s okay if you aren’t.”’

I don’t think I ever posted a link to the first work in this series, but here’s the second! I’ve decided to start a Lance-centric fic series of unrelated one-shots, all based off of the meaning of tarot cards.

I don’t actually know much about tarot cards, but the title for the first one (The Eight of Cups) just kind of happened, and I decided to just keep it rolling. Obviously since the first fic was posted almost five months ago and I’m just now getting the second out, updates to the series will be...slow. But! since none of them are related to each other it’s fine!

Ok so I have a couple fanfic ideas, and if anyone can write them PLEASE DO SO!! And if you know any fics that fit any of these descriptions please send them my way. THANK YOU!!

Ok so these are gonna be for a whole bunch of different fandoms, and when I think of some others, I’ll add them as I go. All plots and ships can be adapted, just a loose idea of what I want to happen. Some I can’t think of characters so that’s up to you.

Song fics:

1. My heart I surrender - I Prevail

Ship: Bakudeku (Boku no Hero Academia)

Plot: Either Bakugo or Deku or even both (doesn’t really matter, fits both, will be referred to by K/D/B) are having crisis over feelings or something happening to the other, and to get over said thing and get back on rhythm, the class does a singing contest/karaoke, starts off alright then K/D/B either choose this song or say they want to sing an original song - could also be a band au. Sprinkle a little bit of angst of childhood memories and badabing badaboom you got a bkdk story.

2. Astronaut - Simple Plan

Main focus: Lance (Voltron)

Ship: I think no ship would be better but if you want a ship, I don’t care who.

Plot: Langst. You know the standard, Lance is ignored, his homesickness, depression and anxieties are bass boosted to the max, and no one notices -if ship is included they are the only exception- and he is reading into things too much. Standard langst, I really don’t care what kind you write. Anyway, on one particularly bad day, Lance is yelled at more because everyone is having a bad day, because Lance decided to take a night off from putting everyone to bed because he wanted to have a day for himself, Lance is feeling especially down, goes into the earth room, or could be singing to child, or to calm himself down, but either way he is singing astronaut by Simple Plan, you can decide if he has a guitar for this, but someone overhears -could be ship or just random person- and realises that ‘Hey, Lance isn’t ok’, and tells the team and they realise they have taken him for granted and so on so forth, end it however you want.

3. Gone too soon - Simple Plan

Ship: Malec (Shadowhunters)

Plot: Alec dies, could be on a mission or from old age, Magnus grieves and plays this to help get over it.

If mission: Jace, Clary, Izzy, Simon, Raphael and whoever else, they all go over to see how Magnus is doing after the funeral, and they walk into him playing it on guitar, while wearing alecs clothes, a slideshow of his memories of Alec and all Alec’s belongings around him, he is singing when he starts to cry and hyperventilate, and everyone rushes over to him to comfort where he just breaks because Fuck this is the hardest goodbye he has ever felt since his mother died.

If Old Age: start off with Alec in hospital or something, him and Magnus laying together in the bed, Magnus wakes up and realises that Alec is gone, fast forward to the funeral, Alec was the last one of that generation to pass, Magnus visits the cemetery whenever he can, one day he takes a guitar, or not, and sings the song he wrote to them all because these people were his family, one he had been looking for for centuries. Finish with Magnus walking away, and the ghosts of the shadowhunters sitting on their gravestones all embracing as they realise that Magnus has finally accepted it and will begin to heal and move on.

Movie Au:

1. The Greatsest Showman

Ship: Literally any ship, I live for Greatest Showman/Circus AU’s - cannot get enough of them, wish there were more for my ships.

2. The Broken Hearts Gallery

Ship: Bakudeku with past Tododeku

Side ships: Kirishido, Ochiida, and Shenki

Plot: I know this movie has literally just been released in cinemas, I saw it today, but on my way home from watching it I was trying to think which ship would it fit with, and that ship is all I could think of. So Deku as Lucy, collects random crap from past relationships, lives with Shinsou and Ochako, Iida basically lives there too -moved in with Uraraka if you want- Deku is dating Todoroki -plays Max. They work in an exhibit together under Aizawa, or someone like that, when on the opening night of an exhibit, Monama -Plays Harvard- tells Deku that Momo has come back and that she and Todo are getting along. Deku gets drunk and has to introduce Todo as director of exhibit, makes a fool of himself, later that night after being dumped by Todo, and fired, he gets into what he thinks is his Uber, but is literally just Bakugo’s (Nick) car. Literally just follow rest of storyline. Marcos: Kirishima, Marcos’ wife: Mina, Chloe: whoever you want as Bakugo’s ex that shows up for a total of like 5 minutes, max.

Second movie:

Akaashi as Mary, Bokuto as Joey, Kuroo as Dustin, Kenma as Tammy, everyone else up to you.

Third movie:

Kenma as Katie, Kuroo as Luke, Hinata as Angela, Bokuto as Mickey, Lev as victor, everyone else up to you.

“A Collection of Langst Volume Three” Fic List!

I did end up making some changes to it as originally I had Patreon exclusive fics in it, but after some thought I chose to remove them as that’s not fair to those supporters and readers. I may have one as a later stretch goal, but that would be it. Stretch goals to be announced ~2 weeks.

This time around there will also not be a zine exclusive fic until the zine reaches a certain number of preorders (I’m thinking 25) and then a second zine exclusive fic will be at a higher stretch goal (perhaps 75). That’ll just give us a little more incentive to purchase, help advertise the zine a bit as we can host polls for the zine fics during the process, and it gives me just a little bit of breathing room :)

Real quick; since I had this question a couple times last preorder session; no, unfortunately you cannot order copies of older Langst zine collections as I go through a different publisher for the zines than the books and they don’t accept smaller quantities. Sorry! You do also have to order during the preorder block as I will not be ordering extra stock for after.
