↳ pairing: namjoon x female reader
↳ genre: mermaid au | fluff | slight angst
↳ word count: 2,178
↳ warnings: none for this
↳ summary: “I will let you go, not because I don’t want you to stay
But because I don’t want you to stay without wanting.” — unknown
or where namjoon finds a mermaid and needs to find a way to help her go back to the ocean - even if it’s something none of them wants to.
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6 | masterlist
Even being aware of the fact that she couldn’t see it, NamJoon rolled his eyes. “I’m not going to miss it, mom.”
She clicked her tongue on the other side of the line then sighed in defeat, “alright, alright. Just do it safely, okay? I love you.”
“I love you too,” his tone softened, small smile stretching the corner of his lips as he stopped pacing around the room telling her goodbye.
Grabbing his backpack and shoving his phone inside of it, he looks around one more time just to make sure he is not forgetting about anything when his eyes lands on the car keys at the nightstand. He reaches his hand to grab it, chest tightening irrationally when he turns to leave and lock the door behind him - wondering if the feeling is related to leaving not only the place but the small island later that day.
He brushes his hair out of his eyes, stepping outside to walk through the parking lot and towards the car - taking note of the heavy clouds hanging in the sky, sun hidden behind them with a light purse of his lips. It is still not the perfect day but it will do. It has to, actually.
Consisted of stone walls, the Alca Island has its rocks slowly collapsing into the sea; and as NamJoon follows the ocean all the way from his seat at his rented car, surveying its beauty, he also sees why this place - who used to be so crowded, started to rush away its inhabitants and visitors.
He can’t help but muse that it is too dangerous.
There’s a reason why he is going to adventure himself into the Arena in his last day here, a few hours before his flight (the one his mom is so scared that he will miss because to someone so smart, sometimes he is too careless); it was not his choice. Today is one of the rare days of the year where the tides are low and he can walk around to grab material for his research. He was lucky enough to have it happening while he is on vacation, even if it is so close to the end.
Bad and destructive rainstorms are not uncommon in the island - the inhabitants (the ones who managed to earn money somehow and stayed) not only started to warn visitors about how the touristic points just aren’t anymore, also became more strict and careful about visits in general.
Not too soon the place was designated as a World Heritage Site seeing how important it was for the environment (especially for the marine life), and UNESCO in order to help not only Alca but the natives that decided to stay behind as well, started to charge every tourist an environmental preservation fee upon arrival, establishing a few laws so people would actually help and preserve.
Which ended scaring away the ones who wanted to take advantage of the animals and nature resources as a way to make money.
NamJoon is not one of them, sure. The biology student’s research comes directly to support UNESCO. He wants to bring more attention to the idea of helping the natives and nature, as in addition to study the unlimited number of undiscovered sea creatures.
Here he brings only what is important; good intentions, his favorite camera and his love and respect towards nature.
And he was graced with so much already, the natives who he had the opportunity to meet becoming no less than friends to him and helping with whatever he needed.
He had no doubts that this Island was in good hands, even if he misunderstood it a little - or how he decided to genuinely ignore their subservient behavior when they talked about the ocean.
-
Being able to fully inhale and appreciate the fresh salty air, he parks the car not too far from a hidden beach; the closest he could get from his final destination and making sure to guard the place inside his head before he finally started to walk.
An unexplainable emerald sea shined under the sunlight - who only decided to appear a few minutes before setting, a rare kind of beauty that forced NamJoon to hold his breath.
With a low tide, dark volcanic rocks helped the ocean as it created natural pools with clear waters, housing the rich marine life yet to be explored. The young man took his camera from his backpack and dedicated a few minutes of his time to capture every little fish and corals he could see before he was satisfied enough to put it back on its safe place.
Avoiding the unsteady rocky floor, he groped his way across the coastline until he reached the edge of a cliff.
Worrying his bottom lip, NamJoon looked around before realizing that in order to get to the shore below he will have to climb down the cliff and jump into the water.
He crouches down, tightly grasping the straps of his backpack and jumps - hissing when he makes contact with icy water and the tiny crashing waves that reaches calf high.
Walking south, he erases the final distance to face the secluded Arena.
Built decades ago by someone who misjudged the tides, the Arena is a place covered by pools, some filled with salty waters and others barely wet with it - it didn’t take long for them to be abandoned and forgotten seeing as how hard it is to get there and especially how ridiculous dangerous it gets once the tides are high.
NamJoon bites his tongue when he feels the first droplets hitting his head, a warning that he soon - to soon, will have to leave.
Thousands of pictures later, the rain is not so merciful anymore and he is gathering his stuff from half a cave so he can walk back; letting aside the urge to sit down and rest and wait for the rain to stop. He knows better than that, that this is not typical (not for him, at least - because he’s sure everyone else is used to it) and that he really needs to leave now before the tides makes the decision of going high one day earlier.
Walking the way back and almost out of the Arena, NamJoon suddenly stopped when the sound of splashing water echoed in a pool he didn’t dare to come close - just for something in particular, because he thought it was empty.
For a second he thought about turning around to leave when a strange movement of the waves caught his attention.
The rectangle pool was clearly out of reach of the ocean, but especially close to the margins the waves were stronger, heavier. Almost like the pool was its final destination.
It didn’t make any sense as he looked around and even though the sky was darker today and the clouds were heavy, the rest of the ocean - with that spot as an exception, were calm.
Curiosity overtook him and he makes his way around to that place, being smart enough to avoid the margin.
He peeks out to watch the inside and take a note of how this one is way deeper than the others, dirty and shallow green water at the end.
The splash sound is heard again and NamJoon is sure that there’s some kind of really big fish there, already planning on opening his backpack again to take his expensive camera out with him.
Trying to take a better look inside, he decides to go down in the rocky stairs.
There’s only four large steps and he wants to go to the last one.
And that’s when he sees it.
An iridescent lilac fin, struggling against the water.
He reaches his arm out with his camera ready in hand to take a picture of the creature at its full glory - and if it wasn’t for the strap holding the object securely to his neck, he would have missed a money he doesn’t really have right now, all the pictures he took today, and the proof that he is not mad.
Unless someone can take pictures of hallucinations.
That would be enough to explain why there’s a picture of a mermaid on his camera.
He took a good look at his watch too, just to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
The sea creature left out a rough sound, his attention moving back down there.
High tides are the most common thing to see in this place as stated and warned before - so many times NamJoon lost count, but it probably took a good rainstorm and a pretty angry ocean to reach the farthest pool - he wonder how long you spent stuck in here, while watching as you attempt to reach the margin, the far high margin, as you grow weaker.
NamJoon shook his head, trying to make some sense flow to his mind and breathed out a muffled curse.
“Hey you!” He tried, voice too low as the rain became thicker, but you heard and looked up startled. “I’m going to help you out, alright?”
Too distracted as he left his belongings behind, doing his best to climb down the wall that separated the two of you, he didn’t notice you flinching nor pressing your back on the other end of the pool, your small figure finding strength to tremble with panic.
He stumbled forward when his feet touched green mud; a slight frown adorning his face as he concentrated on his steps until he was close enough to crouch in front of you, clothes sticking wet to his body.
You watched him carefully, a strange necessity to trust him demanding space inside your chest as he looked at you with his warm brown eyes and easy dimpled smile.
“I’m not going to hurt you, don’t worry,” he said with his palms out for you to see. You hesitated but the sound of lighting strike makes you shiver and to his surprise you grab one of his hands between yours; still trembling and cold.
“Good, now let’s get you out of here.” Trying to push you up, you pushed him back down. And he urged himself into not slapping his face when he realized you can’t just get up on your feets. “I’ll have to carry you,” he said more to himself, biting his lips and taking one last look around. He crouches down again with his back facing you, tugging your hand that never left his and helping you with a piggyback. “Hold me tight,” he asked softly, crossing your arms around his shoulders himself, having no idea if you were understanding him or not.
Making sure you were secure, he moved even slower than before.
NamJoon felt his arms burn with the force he had to do to push you and him back up to the fourth step of the rocky stairs.
Out of the pool, with one of his arms supporting the rest of your weight - feeling the smoothness of your scales, he carries you to the small cave, leaving you there before swiftly making his way back to grab his backpack, almost hitting the floor because of the way he slipped on a puddle.
He is clueless about what is waiting for him; the ocean stopping its waves in a disturbing manner.
“I’m back,” he announced with a sweet smile. “I’ll just make sure you aren’t hurt and then-“
He loses his words the moment his eyes land on your still figure, concern leaving a bad taste inside his mouth as he steps closer just to breath out in relief when you move your hand to take your hair out of your face in annoyance; but he realized it was too soon when a painful groan left your lips.
Confusion had adorned NamJoon’s face before a frown took place as the mermaid suddenly began convulsing - the glittering lilac from your scales tinted the same as your skin color, every piece of them becoming rigid until they started to fall. With one hand the young man supported your head, afraid you would hit the floor; with the other, he helped free a new pair of legs, too stunned to swallow the sight of a mermaid turning into a human.
He felt his head spinning, decided to disbelieve his own eyes because there is no way he just witnessed that.
But he did.
You moaned in discomfort when you stopped moving violently, a high-pitched breath leaving your lips. Lungs.
He took off his hoodie with shaky hands and helped you with it, your lilac eyes finding and never moving away from his face; somewhat curious and wary, at the same time it dropped slightly as you grew even more tired.
Ignoring the sudden heat creeping up to his face with your nudity - this is not an appropriate time to feel embarrassed or act prude, he sighed heavily.
What the hell should I do now?
Guess NamJoon is missing his flight tonight.
A/N: I’m using the fact that I moved from the other blog to this one as an excuse to rewrite and go through the grammar mistakes in this! I’d like to remind you though that english is not my first language and I might miss a few things, so I hope it won’t be on the way of your reading and that you can enjoy this series just as much as I enjoyed writing it. And please let me know what you think about it! ~

This was probably the most hysterical Chicago has ever been so far. No one knew exactly what sparked off the sudden violence in the first place, but what people did know was that the longer Prohibition went on, the more often these gang wars are sure to occur. A good ten years into the ban and hundreds of citizens have either been severely injured or murdered; whether it’d be gangsters, policemen, or innocent bystanders who were in the wrong place at the worst time. The many gangs that rule parts of the city continue to do whatever it takes to be the most notorious. Sadly, this was nothing new at this point.
Alca didn’t have much time to worry about what was going on around her as she was still in a pickle herself: she has lost a couple of her members and workers during the crossfires and has spent half of her time searching for a few more reliable men to recruit. On the upside, progress wasn’t going terribly since she managed to bring in new delivery truck drivers and gunmen to replace those that were taken away one way or another.
But there was still one dilemma: a few bartenders have also gone. Few as it may be, but bartenders were essential. They were the ones who dealt with the poison, after all. As always, Alca needed the best of the best. However, with the continuing violence as well as the law doing their best to incarcerate or run every gang off the city, it was starting to get more difficult to find any candidates who’d be willing to work for one of the most infamous gangsters in Chicago.
Yes, today was another bar hopping day for the squirrel. Not mainly to drink per say, but to once again attempt to find potential workers. The speakeasy she decided to go to was that of neutral ground so the chance of her getting harmed by a rival gang was so-so, but you can never be too careful; along with the mob boss were her two seven foot tall bodyguards.
The bouncers outside the main entrance were certainly surprised as was the customers nearby when the squirrels were let in. Some of the stares that were directed at the trio were of unease while others were of awe; nothing that made Alca uncomfortable, though. She was used to it already. The gazing people and toons minded their own business as soon as Alca and her bodyguards made their way to the bar and sat on the stools, distancing themselves from the patrons who also sat there. One of the guards eyed an untouched drink menu at arm’s distance, reached over, and gently slid it towards Alca. The squirrel thanked him before turning her attention to said menu. This place seemed...pretty decent so one drink to try wouldn’t hurt.

In-game Summary: “Miku borrows Chris' kitchen in order to practice cooking, and dives right in with a pretty difficult dish...”
Tumblr media
Chris Yukine: "Hm? What's up with her?"
Miku Kohinata: "Oh, this is way harder than I thought..."
Chris Yukine: "Hey, why the long face?"
Miku Kohinata: "Oh, Chris. I was just int he Home Ec. room doing some cooking, but I'm not all that good at it..."
Chris Yukine: "Cooking?"
Miku Kohinata: "I wanted to try again, but the girls in the Cooking club had things to do, so I couldn't keep using the room."
Chris Yukine: "So what you're saying is, you're more inept than you look?"
Miku Kohinata: "...You don't have to put it like THAT."
Chris Yukine: "Well, don't let it get you down. If you need a place to practice, you can use the kitchen at my place."
Miku Kohinata: "Really?!"
Tumblr media
Miku Kohinata: "We have all the ingredients, so now all that's left to do is to get cooking!"
Chris Yukine: "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Miku Kohinata: "What? Chris, you can cook?!"
Chris Yukine: "Seriously? What is it with you people?! What is it that makes you think you're so much better than me?!"
Miku Kohinata: "N-No, it's not like that at all! I just thought... Well, from what Hibiki told me..."
Chris Yukine: "So it's her fault, is it? Well, I'll have you know I can cook just fine! It's not hard to follow a recipe!"
Miku Kohinata: "Sorry... I just really didn't think you could cook."
Chris Yukine: "I just don't cook much because it's boring, you know?"
Miku Kohinata: "In that case, could you be my taste tester? After all, I'm the one that needs to practice cooking."
Chris Yukine: "Taste testing? I think I can manage that."
Miku Kohinata: "Thank you, that's a big help! Now, today's recipe... Paella!"
Chris Yukine: "Paella? I didn't know you liked Spanish food."
Miku Kohinata: "Well, Hibiki saw it on TV recently and said she wanted to try it. I wanted to surprise her by making it!"
Chris Yukine: "It always comes back to Hibiki..."
Chris Yukine: "So is this your first time making it, then?"
Miku Kohinata: "Yep! I've done my research, though, so it should be fine!"
Chris Yukine: "Yeah? Well, I hope it comes out well."
Miku Kohinata: "Me too! I have a good feeling about this!"
Miku Kohinata: "So... First, I take the clams out of their shells... Then, the saffron goes in the rice, and..."
Chris Yukine: "......"
Miku Kohinata: "Um... Is everything okay, Chris? It's just... It's a bit hard to cook with you staring at me like that."
Chris Yukine: "Oh, my bad. It's just kinda interesting to watch."
Miku Kohinata: "How about you wait in the living room, and I'll let you know when it's done?"
Chris Yukine: "There's really nothing you need me to do?"
Miku Kohinata: "Well, it was so kind of you to let me use your kitchen, I couldn't possibly ask you to do anything else!"
Chris Yukine: "I guess I'll go wait out there, then."
Miku Kohinata: "Hey, Chris? Could you taste this for me?"
Chris Yukine: "You're done already?"
Miku Kohinata: "Not quite, but I want to see how it's going so far."
Chris Yukine: "Well, here goes nothing... Wow! Hey, Miku, this is really good!"
Miku Kohinata: "Really?!"
Chris Yukine: "Yeah! The rice's texture is perfect, and it tastes amazing!"
Miku Kohinata: "That's such a relief! I'll get back in the kitchen and finish up, then!"
Chris Yukine: "Alca-Noise again? Ugh, looks like the old man wants us to head out."
Miku Kohinata: "is everything okay, Chris?"
Chris Yukine: "Change of plan! I have to go, but you can stay for as long as you need to. Make yourself at home, okay?"
Miku Kohinata: "Thank you, I'll try not to make a mess! Be careful, okay?"
Chris Yukine: "Will do!"
Tumblr media
Chris Yukine: "......"
Miku Kohinata: "Welcome home!"
Chris Yukine: "......"
Miku Kohinata: "Chris? Is everything okay?"
Chris Yukine: "Uh, y-yeah! There's just not usually someone here when I get home. It's kind of nice."
Chris Yukine: (Just this once, I'm actually a little jealous of that idiot...)
Chris Yukine: "Anyway, did you finish making the paella?"
Miku Kohinata: "Oh, yeah, I did..."
Miku Kohinata: "Here it is! A delicious seafood curry!"
Chris Yukine: "Huh? What happened to the paella?! Don't tell me you ate it all!"
Miku Kohinata: "So, um, about that... Before you got back, I got a call from Hibiki."
Miku Kohinata: "She kept going on about seafood curry, and, well..."
Chris Yukine: "So you changed your entire plan, just like that? You're her friend, not her personal cook!"
Miku Kohinata: "Well, the recipe used the same seafood as the paella, so I figured I could make it work..."
Chris Yukine: "That idiot! It wasn't paella she wanted to eat, it was seafood! Seriously, what's wrong with her?!"
Chris Yukine: "Well, since you've gone to the trouble of making it, can I try the curry?"
Miku Kohinata: "Oh, sure. Um, go ahead..."
Chris Yukine: "...I mean, this is good too. It's got a lot of flavor, and you seasoned the rice well. It's good curry."
Miku Kohinata: "That's good to hear... Thank you."
Chris Yukine: "You don't have to make such difficult stuff, you know. She'd be happy with whatever you made her."
Miku Kohinata: "Well, I'd like to think so, but..."
Chris Yukine: "It's true! Besides, I already told you it tastes good, right? You're a great cook!"
Miku Kohinata: "...I guess you have a point. Thank you, Chris!"
Chris Yukine: "Don't mention it."
Chris Yukine: "Now, I'm starving. I should probably make dinner."
Miku Kohinata: "Oh, actually... Chris?"
Chris Yukine: "Hm? What is it?"
Tumblr media
Chris Yukine: "Mmmf?!"
Chris Yukine: "...Sandwiches? What happened while I was gone?!"
Miku Kohinata: "I figured all that fighting would make you pretty hungry, so I made them for when you got home."
Miku Kohinata: "I didn't have many ingredients left, though, so they're nothing special, but..."
Miku Kohinata: "But now that you're here, you can taste-test them for me! Here, open wide!"
Chris Yukine: "I can eat by myself!"
Miku Kohinata: "Oh, don't be shy. I won't tell anyone. Now, here comes the airplane! Say aaah!"
Chris Yukine: "A-Aaah..."
Miku Kohinata: "So? How does it taste?"
Chris Yukine: "It... Well... I mean it tastes like a sandwich. It's fine."
Miku Kohinata: "Like I said, they're nothing special, but I'll be sure to make them extra tasty next time!"
Chris Yukine: "Next time? This wasn't a one time thing?"
Miku Kohinata: "I'd love to do this again! Well, if you'll have me, that is."
Chris Yukine: "I don't see why not, I guess."
Miku Kohinata: "Thank you! After all, everyone needs someone to come home to every once in a while."

MyndYou uses AI and passive data to detect cognitive decline in seniors
As pandemic-driven social distancing and self-isolation measures permeate society, safeguarding vulnerable people’s mental and physical well-being is more important than ever. The vast majority of elderly people would rather “age in place” in their own homes than move in with family or into a multi-residence retirement facility. This trend had already led to a surge in technologies aimed at enabling loved ones and caregivers to monitor seniors and engage with them remotely, but the COVID-19 crisis has lent an air of urgency to the endeavor.
A quick glance across this landscape shows fall-detection contraptions, targeted social networks, and more. Artificial intelligence (AI) in particular is gaining a firmer foothold, with AI-powered social companions and fancy wearables designed to track all manner of activity or changes in behavior.
Fledgling Israeli startup MyndYou is using AI to help care providers assess and monitor elderly patients from afar, with a platform centered on passive data collection, automated engagement, and remote intervention. This week, the company announced that it had raised $4 million in a series A round of funding and unveiled a new partnership with the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA), a U.S. membership-based organization for care professionals.
Though there are plenty of remote-monitoring tools aimed at the senior market already, MyndYou is hoping that a combination of simplicity and automated engagement will set it apart. For the future, the company is aiming to classify specific conditions by looking at all the data it gathers for each individual.
How it works
Elderly individuals with smartphones can download the MyndYou For You app, which uses sensors from the phone to passively monitor and analyze patterns in daily activities. These include speech (when the user is on a call), walking, and driving. Changes over time could indicate deteriorating physical or cognitive faculties, and these insights are sent directly to the individual’s care managers, who can then engage their client with targeted interventions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above: MyndYou mobile app
Studies have shown the impact of cognitive decline on driving abilities, with altered emergency stops, U-turns, speed, and lane changes potential signs that something isn’t right. MyndYou passively records GPS and accelerometer data from a user’s smartphone while they’re driving to analyze any shifting patterns.
In the future, MyndYou will also track clients’ sleep patterns, which will require additional sleep-tracking hardware that connects to the user’s phone. The company chose to omit sleep-tracking contraptions for now to streamline the user experience.
“Sleep is an important parameter, but we chose to postpone it as we wanted the initial solution to be as seamless and simple as possible and not to require any additional hardware devices [that] may concern seniors,” MyndYou cofounder and CEO Ruth Poliakine Baruchi told VentureBeat.
The general idea is that users install the app as early as possible, establishing a “baseline” with which to compare future anomalies. However, the app is really just one spoke in MyndYou’s remote-monitoring wheel, as smartphones have less penetration among the elderly. MyndYou has also built a voicebot and virtual care manager, called MyEleanor, that calls individuals and can serve as a “hotline” to asses risk and manage symptoms. The bot can proactively call to check in on clients or respond automatically to anomalies detected by the app, while care providers can use the MyndYou dashboard to call patients directly on any phone, including a landline. MyndYou has developed what it calls a “proprietary analytics engine” for monitoring changes in a person’s health by analyzing their voice only.
“Using the brain as a sensor gives us an advantage, as our models are not condition-specific and do not require a new model for each type of disease,” Poliakine Baruchi said. “Our engine is general, so the same engine is used to analyze a variety of activities. This allows us to build a fingerprint of each person’s complexity and correlate changes in specific activities with different health conditions.”
This is all about enabling early intervention — the sooner a condition is detected, the sooner it can be addressed. For now, MyndYou is focused on giving health care professionals general insights into their patients’ well-being, raising flags if it detects changes from an established baseline. But in the future, it may be able to deliver more granular insights based on specific conditions.
“As our data grows, we will have the ability to deliver condition-specific insights that further guide clinicians and staff — indicating not only that a change has occurred, but the nature and possible sources of the change,” Poliakine Baruchi said. She added that the company is already tagging the data it gathers into “categorized anomaly groups,” such as cardiopulmonary exacerbations, infections, fall risk, and so on.
The kind of feedback nurses, care managers, therapists, and medical assistants can receive ranges from an overview of anomalies that have been detected to their perceived severity and the dates and times they occurred. From the same dashboard, the care provider can also view a “walk analysis” of the patient.

Above: Anomaly detections in the MyndYou dashboard
Carers also view details of all the automatic calls that have been placed, including auto-generated transcriptions of the conversations with MyEleanor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above: MyndYou call transcript
It’s worth noting that MyEleanor isn’t designed to replace human care providers. It’s more about helping scale engagement by making it regular and automated and drawing attention to anomalies that might be missed during a casual conversation.
“Through calls with MyEleanor, providers have the opportunity to introduce consistent and expanded engagement directly to their patients’ homes — all the patient needs is a landline — for screening, symptom management, chronic care management, and more,” Poliakine Baruchi said.
Founded in 2016, MyndYou operates on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, charging on a monthly per-user basis. In addition to the U.S. market, the company also operates in Japan after signing a deal last year with the Mizuho Information & Research Institute (MHIR) to develop a proof of concept.
MyndYou already has more than a dozen “accounts” using its technology, mainly physician practices and care managers supporting “high-risk” populations. However, the company also announced a pilot program this month in conjunction with IT services company Involta, which is testing the platform as a way to automatically track employee well-being. MyEleanor checks in with workers from time to time, keeping tabs on subtle changes in their voice.
So MyndYou does have broader aspirations, but for now the focus remains largely on the elderly. ALCA has said that managers will use the MyndYou platform to passively detect general health changes, though the timing of the tie-up hints at the current anxiety around elderly people’s risk of complications from COVID-19 — which is what ALCA members in New York are using the MyndYou platform to address.
COVID-19 screening could involve MyEleanor calling a client who reports shortness of breath, with a follow-up call the next day revealing that the symptoms have worsened. And even if the person doesn’t verbalize their shortness of breath, this could still trigger a voice anomaly given that it would impact the way that they talk. Armed with this data, the human care manager may call the client and ask them to contact their doctor. The next stage of the ALCA collaboration will see MyndYou’s smartphone app incorporated into the care management setup.
“The ability to screen and engage with the highest-risk individuals is very much needed these days to keep people physically safe from the outbreak, socially engaged, and supported,” Poliakine Baruchi said.

There hasn’t been too many strange occurrences since that weird robot-ball thing she saw a few weeks ago. She never managed to see it again, and whenever she asked Reika on occasion, she joked and told her not to worry so much about it. The robot really did end up being harmless, as it didn’t cause any trouble the whole time she’s seen it or even after it left.
Until today. HQ suddenly picked up a strange energy source earlier today while she was in class. With her, Chris, Shirabe and Kirika stuck in school, they had Tsubasa and Maria investigate. They turned up with nothing and instead, flew out of the country when everything was cleared. They had their own missions to take care of, and had the most leeway due to their status and not being held down by school.
“It's my choice to make that vow to grab hold of justice. Don't make me break my promise by letting go.”
Song as her guide, Hibiki ran out into the field, expecting an enemy of some sort to make its appearance and yet, no one was here. There were people she helped along the way before getting here, so it was obvious people were here when things happened. They picked up a signal, one enough to know it’s from a person, the other from an unknown source. There was obvious destruction; the roads cracked and broken while the same could be said about the surrounding buildings. Even if this was a portion of the city that was still being worked on, Hibiki kept her attention high. All of this must have just happened.
Tumblr media
There were no counts of the Alca-Noise, so it couldn’t be them, but wandering around carefully did end up leading her towards a figure in the distance. “Excuse me! Are you alright?!” A voice in her headset told her to be careful, as there’s no guarantee that this person is good. It would be just fine.
