Lesbian Rand AU?
[Send me a potential AU and I'll answer with five things from that story!]
Oh boy, here we go-
A lot depends on the setup. A big part of Rand's character is reckoning with the failures of his past life and the foundation of a lot the interesting ways Jordan interrogates the gender binary is built on the idea that those mistakes are a remix of Paradise Lost/The Fall. LTT is at both at once Eve and Lucifer. Eve in that he acts without the consent or permission of his other half (Latra Posae Decume- the Adam of this version) and runs of on his own in defiance of her will. Lucifier in that in his pride, he believes he can match or surpass the Creator, by attempting to Seal the Bore with only saidin. As a result, paradise is lost- the AoL is destroyed in the breaking by LTT's sin, an entire Age results where all men take the blame to a greater or lesser extent, for the original sin of one man. Of course, Jordan isn't just running with this premise as simple fact- he's interrogating the idea of original sin, salvation, and redemption and raising inherent and complicating questions. Does it make a difference that LTT's intentions where pure and genuine? That he didn't know and couldn't have predicted the consequences of his actions? How does Rand suffering for LTT's do any justice to those who suffered and died in the Breaking? Is chasing the splendor of an Age that could shatter so even a worthwhile endeavor, or should the focus be on building letting go of the past and building something new? Does that mean forgetting and forgiving and is that fair?
All this to say is that, I think for a Lesbian Rand AU to work the story would probably need a reversed gender dynamic to the one that is present in the books- which I don't know that I could ever write both because it would veer very uncomfortably close to the most misogynistic elements of our own historical societies, and probably have to exceed them in brutality to work (something I'm not very good at, since a lot of my world building energy is usually directed at reshaping and re interpenetrating those historical societies through more queer and equitable lenses), and because a lot of what I connect to in Rand's story has a lot to do with the specifically queer male reading of it. That said if I could or would do that, I think it could also work very effectively as a queer female reading in the same thematic ways.
Rand and male channelers in general in the WoT verse already full fill a lot of the tropes commonly associated with medieval witches- individuals tainted by otherworldly power that is poorly understood and inherently transgressive to the gender roles of their society, as well as threat to the established social order (to put it mildly). It's not hard to translate that to a theoretically tainted saidar and the feelings of a resulting broken world onto a theoretical female Dragon. Rand in this context fulfills a pretty familiar role- Joan of Arc, Himiko of Yamatai, Elizabeth Woodvile, etc- savior and hero to some, witch and monster to others.
My brain of course goes to female Mat to be Rand's love interest in this AU- trickster and guile heroine. Mat's specific brand is easy to imagine transcending into a female character in a strict patriarchy, both because Mat's role in the series is already pretty gender transgressive (as befits a trickster shapeshifting archetype), and because it's easy to imagine again that simmering homoerotic temptation Mat and Rand's relationship inherently invokes, but gender flipped: Mat representing a liberation a refusal of the traditional gender roles that Rand can't quite decide if she truly wants or only wants because she was raised to want them. Rand specifically being homosexual rather then my bisexual head canon means that, I would probably air on the side of it being compulsory heterosexuality/heteronormativity- and genuinely wanting the life of adventure and liberty offered by Mat's promises of running away together.
I could also see Min (again as her Gender Weird makes her surprisingly easy to translate into a traditional patriarchy without loosing core elements of her character) as Rand's love interest- again in largely the same role as the series. Someone who Rand could just be....herself around, who couldn't overawed or terrified or brow beaten into seeing a monster, but rather just a person- a woman sacred and overwhelmed and being crushed by the expectations of a savior, and all the fears of being a monster. Conversely I don't know that either Avihenda or Elayne's relationships would still function the same- not without flipping their genders as well which defeats the idea of the premise. A few extra thoughts (since 1 and 2 are basically just big disclaimers)-
While I find the idea of Lesbian Rand having to learn from Short Gay Ball of Anger Uncle Moiraine very funny conceptually (Moiraine is already a pretty strong riff of mentor characters like Obi Wan and Gandfalf, but genderflipped, and I find the idea flipping that back but keeping the more unique aspects of Moiraine's character to be interesting), I also can't help but find the idea of Moiraine as an older, slightly rattled/mad, female wilder Moiraine with the same motivation as in the series just as intriguing as a mentor figure to Lesbian Rand. It would give the entire series a very different vibe, but that's just a natural outcome of the premise as well. I once said Moiraine is a woman who, if she had be born into a patriarchy would have easily been burned as a witch- but the truth is, the idea of Moiraine as a witch to clever to burn, a witch who is surviving the curse of her power, and struggling to see the savior who may yet be able to reverse that curse and save their world...their is an Appeal There.
It's scary conversely, how easy it is to fit the Aes Sedai in general into a gender flipped Randland, and I think speaks to how effectively Jordan wrote them and their institutionally flaws. Mired in traditions, secure in their power, comfortable in ordering the world to their will- a mix between the Catholic Church and an order of magi, angry and resistant to reform and change that alters the base of their power, presided over by ancient and yet ageless cabals of entrenched elders. The scene, easily one of my favorites, in the series, in Fal Dara, is almost sickeningly easy to imagine with the genders flipped- a young woman still bright eye and scarred of what she is and what she is capable of, with three thousand years of tales of women going mad from power, declaring themselves the Dragon falsely in greed and lust for power and leaving the world to suffer for it, walking into a a room with three ancient wizards who tell her that this is her fate, to be this messiah and destroyer both, it hits sharply and exactly the right way.
Again, I don't know that I would do it, and I find what Jordan is doing with gender and sexuality already int he Wot Books inherently more interesting and....less....I don't know sticky? But it's a fun thought exercise.

Awwww that sucks for Dafne :( She didn’t really do much promotion for the movie tho if I remember correct. I know X-23 was a supporting role but she was also a main character too! I wonder why she barely did press? If she did more interviews, then that would have helped expose her (in a good way!) to Hollywood if that makes sense.
It does make sense. I love watching interviews of my favorites, and I say that because I remember watching one where the director said her parents are actors (I've never heard of her father, Will Keen, or her mother), and so, having found that out, I think they might have had some say in how present she is during the Logan press tour, because they, as actors themselves, know how press tours work. If that is true, then it’s good they were protecting their daughter, especially at her age; however, the limited exposure didn’t help. Logan was her debut film, and she rarely promoted the film. The only things she really did were attend some red carpet events. No interview with AOL Build Series, Moviefone, late night talk show hosts... nothing. Well, there are none on YouTube at least. Now that I think about it, maybe she did do some solo interviews, but they weren’t published online and/or aired on television. Anyways, a few interviews with Hugh by her side and solo interviews would have helped get her name out there. Dafne did get five wins and quite a lot of nominations, though!   I do hope we see more from her in the future, because I think she is quite talented. She was phenomenal in Logan, and did a wonderful job at bringing Laura Kinney to life.

We've been living in rural Ireland for a shade more than thirty years now, and the household's online connectivity has been a bit of a challenge from the very start.
When we first arrived, the only way into online life (then mostly CompuServe and AOL and MCIMail) was dialup, and it was what everyone else here had, so that was all right as far as it went. (Sometimes this could get a bit exciting, and could wind up involving alligator clips. I remember going up to the Telecom Eireann offices in Dame Street -- that building houses a Starbucks now -- and showing the techs how to finesse this. Remind me sometime to tell the tale of how I almost wound up storyediting an animated series from Scotland, more or less entirely on MCIMail, with those alligator clips hooked into a phone line in a castle wall.)
(Under the cut: the Internet on the Moon, George R.R. Martinesque levels of character death and destruction, and Authors Under Stress.) (Oh, and a sale.) :)
Then the Internet started to become accessible, and for that too there was dialup, slow and clunky and expensive as it was. If you wanted anything better, for a long time satellite was the only way... and it was insanely pricey. (The equivalent of $250-350 per month wouldn't have been unusual.) For a long time we struggled with that, looking wistfully forward to a time when local providers would be able to offer something like the faster, cheaper methods that were becoming available in the US and in big cities in Europe.
For a long time the providers here lagged behind, until finally in the very late 1990s and early 2000s they started to catch up. We happily enough gave up the satellite for DSL (at least a bit more reliable: the satellite had tended to get wonky in wet weather) and then ADSL. And then slowly the national phone company started to introduce fiber... though only in big cities.
We moved to our present house in the late 90s and watched other areas of the country gradually get better service and have access to all kinds of goodies that were far beyond what ADSL and its kin could provide us. Then came true hardwired broadband, and the nature of our problem abruptly changed. Our tiny local exchange, home to maybe no more than a few hundred subscribers, was too small ever to be broadband-enabled. And none of the companies that kept buying the national phone company, and passing it from hand to hand like a hot potato, had any particular interest in committing to the infrastructure spending that would pay for (among other things) running fiber out to the likes of us. We heaved a sigh, as it seemed likely that the only way we'd ever get broadband was to move. Then dialup vanished, leaving us with only one option that wasn't satellite: cellular broadband, running off a router that would only function when placed as high as possible in an upstairs bedroom window, since our local mobile service is so funky and we live in the shadow of a hill that keeps us from getting a signal of any significant strength. And has a tendency to fail out when it rains.
To say that, as people who as part of work need to have an online presence, and who run an online bookstore, this whole situation has been pretty frustrating... would be putting it mildly.
The government here wasn't insensible to this problem, to their credit, it being shared by hundreds of thousands of other people nationwide. As a result there ensued something called the National Broadband Scheme, intended to get the national government involved as a partner in extending broadband service to Ireland's most rural users. This proposition started out well enough but then rapidly started going through more plot twists than a George R.R. Martin novel (and nearly as many corporate casualties, as participants fell or were pushed out of the scheme, depending on your point of view). Finally it expired of its (political and other) injuries, to be replaced by the National Broadband Plan. (Which also started to look distinctly peaky after companies began dropping out of it as if they'd drunk out of the wrong bottle at a royal banquet.) Leaving us, like many other people all over the southern part of this island, in a situation where the Moon had better internet than we did.
Yet in the most recent twist in the tale, what remains of what used to be the national phone company -- an entity now called Eir -- swooped in and creamed off some of the most accessible of the rural routes that the Plan was supposed to see equipped with the very best state-of-the-art, fiber-to-the-door broadband.
And by what can only be considered sheer luck, one of these involves the little rural road we live on! A man in a van came and discussed with us what service we wanted, and gave us a contract to sign, and we signed it. And when he left there was singing and dancing around here that could have been confused with something out of an old Savarin commercial starring their picky coffee expert, known as El Exigente. "And the people are happy!" Cue the mariachi band.
The very thought of at last being able to do the online things other people do -- streaming (impossible with our expensive cellular broadband, which has been our last-resort solution for years now), seeing video content from online providers (bwahahahahaha you must be kidding, we'd burn through a 20-gigabyte / $50 cellular topup in a matter of hours), backing up our computers to the cloud...  It was heady stuff. So many useful possibilities that other people take for granted would at last become available to us.
Except... maybe that excitement was a little premature.
Yes, people came along with backhoes and ran new cable pipes down the road, and then came the fiber itself. And we actually thought we were going to get hooked up last August until a pre-installation surveyor came around, took one look at our utility pole, and said "Nope." After a week or so, the pole was pulled up and replaced with a new one. Then a nice gentleman came and ran the fiber up it, and another nice gent came to install the cabinet at the top. But as far as the final stage, actually getting the fiber into the house? Nothing definite. "Maybe before Christmas." Except... sorry, nope. "Technical difficulties." The week before Christmas, we called the customer service people and said "WHEN?" And they sighed and said, "February 7th."
Ooookay. Peter and I looked at each other, and sighed too, and said, "We'll see."
And Christmas went by, and New Year's, and January. And Peter said, "We'll call them first thing on the week of the 7th."
And he did. And the nice lad who took his call said, "Yes, you're still on for the 7th. Morning or afternoon?"
...So now we wait. I'm practically giddy with excitement now. I finally get to SEE American Gods? I finally get to stream the audio from the Romansch-language channels in Switzerland and that terrific bundle of classical channels in France? OMG.
Anyway, since we're both in celebratory mood, there's no reason not to spread it around. The Ebooks Direct store will be in 60%-off mode until the installer arrives here on Thursday. So if you're after cheap ebooks, knock yourself out while you can: the present inventory will load on the page linked to below. (PS -- if you've seen the Hugo-nomination reader discount offer, please wait till Friday to use it. If we try to run two sets of discounts in the store at the same time, the software has a nervous breakdown.) Here’s the page to visit to see the whole inventory if you’re interested.
And in the meantime... we wait, in hope, to join the rest of the 21st century...

Nerds and Baseball
With the baseball season going bold, it's an ideal opportunity to chart how nerds and progress have changed the sport of baseball. Over the level of driving decades, the web, consistent advances, and the globalization media have on an astoundingly critical level traded how fans gobble up baseball and how ballplayers play America's bit of room. Coming up next is a graph of a scramble of the penchants where improvement has impacted baseball, and a couple of contemplations on how some new advances will keep influencing baseball baseball seth levinson .
Baseball, Technology, and Fans
1. PC games
From the most solid starting stage sort out, PC games have attempted to go over baseball. In 1971, Don Daglow at Pomona College made ''Baseball.'' During the mid 1980s, Atari and Mattel what's undeniably discharged baseball PC games. In 1983, Mattel discharged Intellivision ''World Series Baseball.'' For the standard comprehension, players of ''World Series Baseball'' could utilize fluctuating camera centers to show the progression. A gamer could see the player from a changed "focus field" camera, see baserunners in corner insets, and view mindful plays from a camera behind home plate. ''World Series Baseball'' additionally joined fly balls into their interface.
In 1988, baseball PC games made another ricochet, when Electronic Arts (EA) discharged ''Earl Weaver Baseball'', which solidified a bona fide baseball chief gave run by man-made scholarly breaking point. The stigmatizing of ''Earl Weaver Baseball'' was seen by Computer Gaming World in 1996 when it named ''Earl Weaver Baseball'' 25th on its system of the Best 150 Games of All Time. This was the second most fundamental orchestrating any games game in that 1981-1996 period behind FPS Sports Football.
Nintendo correspondingly hit a superb sledge, in 1988 when it discharged ''RBI Baseball.'' RBI was the standard PC game to be kept up through the Major League Baseball Players Association. The game contained genuine colossal class players and records, and unquestionably was a goliath hit with players.
Twenty years after the central baseball PC game, ''Tony La Russa Baseball'' showed up on racks the nation over. The game made immense updates in ball game play. In any case, ''La Russa'' joined a degenerate Fly Ball Cursor that showed up where the ball was going to land, and made or diminished in size subject to the stature of the ball. In the event that the breeze was blowing the cursor would move its area to mirror the changing course of the ball. The Fly Ball Cursor displayed genuine fly balls and pop-ups to PC ball games, disposing of the last bit of the game that had never been imitated completely. Second, ''La Russa'' permitted clients to filter through drafts and set up their own classes, all with access to the game's wide player estimations. Third, ''La Russa'' was the basic ball game to offer exact nuances for every individual pitcher against every individual hitter, information that veritable manager utilize extensively more dazzling than broke. Rather than different games brute names who on a fundamental level attributed their names to games, Tony La Russa ate up wide sessions over a time of years endeavoring to look good as careful as would be sensible.
Ball games has kept making since ''La Russa.'' The advancement of EA's ''MVP Baseball'', Sony's ''MLB The Show'', Out of the Park Developments' substance based distraction ''Out of the Park Baseball'', and the and improvement of gaming frameworks (from Genesis to XBox360) has changed the centrality and truth of ball games. Inspiration driving reality, even players themselves confess to utilizing them plan for games. As showed up by a FHM article made by 2004 AL Cy Young Winner Johan Santana (April 2006 pg. 113), "I can see the hitting zones of every player and quantifiably where he was unable to think about the ball. I can in like way find when he will swing at fastballs and when he may not expect a switch up. I wouldn't express that I would add to an individual a genuine game an inside and out that really matters dubious way, yet it gives you assessments of how to progress toward unequivocal hitters."
2. Web Fantasy Baseball
Really disdain it (lady mates, life associates) or love it (on a very basic level each baseball fan), dream baseball has become as standard as the game itself. Decisively when requested to detail addicts who distressingly picked and empowered everything in division, the progress of the web has permitted boundless fans to investigate association with sidekicks and different fans all through the nation. This couldn't in any way whatsoever effect the ensured game itself right? Wrong. Dream Baseball hugy impacts fan intrigue. Did your social event quit mid-season, or at present in an unwatchable fixing year? That is OK. You can at present follow your dream collecting and can keep watching games including your players by techniques for the MLB Baseball Cable Package. Key League Baseball is a thing, and anything that permits your clients to interminably dismember, make, and talk (in that capacity advancing) about your thing in a stimulated way gets colossal.
Dream baseball would not have gets imperative without progress. PCs and the web demonstrated this games upset. The closeness of dazzling PCs and the Internet changed dream baseball, permitting scoring to be done absolutely by PC, and permitting classes to build up their own scoring structure, usually dependent on less recognizable bits of information. Considering, dream baseball has gotten a kind of in-time redirection of baseball, and permitted different fans to build up a dependably pushed awareness of how this present reality game limits.
As showed up by an inciting Fortune article, the "American male's fixation on sports is old news, yet give this a shot: More than half of inventive character sports darlings experience over an hour dependably essentially thinking about their get-togethers." Fantasy baseball is a ''billion dollar industry.'' However, Much like the RIAA and MPAA, Major League Baseball is putting cuts on the dream progress that filled fit baseball's recuperation after the 1996 strike. MLB has chosen to in a general sense re-attempt how it licenses affiliations that run dream games on the Web. Official licensees will now likely be obliged to a Big Three of ESPN, CBS Sportsline, and Yahoo! (a couple of reports interlace AOL and The Sporting News other than). "Mother and pop" shops that helped usher the dream baseball wonder into reality will be truly obliged by the permitting bargain. They might be permitted data to help 5,000 clients each. Every single other individual utilizing baseball estimations to run little dream classes should pick between lessening their endeavors, setting up camp, or getting a visit from MLB's authentic supporters.
3. Client Created Media
Going before the web, media creation was obliged to authorities. Papers, radio, TV, and quality games magazines like Sports Illustrated had a virtual stranglehold over the dispersal of sports news and data.
The key client made games media happened with the approach of Sports Talk radio. An improvement of talk radio, which has existed since the 1940s, sports talk radio took off in the mid 1980s. Today, more than 30 essential games talk radio broadcasts exist all through the nation. Sports talk radio gave fans a soapbox to voice their grumblings, examinations, and assessment of sports. In any case, instead of raging just to their loved ones, sports talk radio pulled in fans to transmit their ways to deal with deal with a conceivably epic get-together.
Requiring a voice, sports fans utilized progression to disseminate their evaluations over the web. The first of these advances was sports messageboard structures. While sports messageboards have never arrived at standard certain quality, they have a strong closeness on the net. A central purpose fundamental "baseball messageboards" in Google will return over 8.5 million hits.
Web messageboards other than paid uncommon personality to the first Petri dish for client made media. This supposition that is best exemplified by a nonappearance of regard that happened around the start of the 2000 season. Bobby Valentine, by then the New York Mets chief, gave an exchange at the Wharton School of Business - an "unassumingly" talk. In any case, "unnoticeably" is just a term epic to writers. While the ''Daily Pennsylvanian'' (Penn's school paper), gave a shallow caution to the talk, one understudy part went in a general sense further. Brad Rosenberg, utilizing the username brad34, meandered onto a Mets message board and articulated that Bobby V affected a couple of players and the virtuosos. The basic press put in most extreme exertion; by then head official Steve Phillips skiped on a plane to Pittsburgh to pow-wow with Valentine; and minor disfavor was in progress.

2. Web Fantasy Baseball
Seriously despise it (lady mates, life partners) or love it (basically every baseball fan), dream baseball has become as standard as the game itself. Decisively when urged to detail addicts who distressingly picked and facilitated everything in division, the advancement of the web has permitted endless fans to investigate association with sidekicks and different fans all through the nation. This couldn't in any way whatsoever effect the ensured game itself right? Wrong. Dream Baseball hugy impacts fan intrigue. Did your party quit mid-season, or at present in an unwatchable fixing year? That is OK. You can at present follow your dream gathering and can keep watching games including your players by procedures for the MLB Baseball Cable Package. Fundamental League Baseball is a thing, and anything that permits your clients to unendingly dismember, make, and talk (in this manner advancing) about your thing in an excited way gets huge.
Dream baseball would not have gets remarkable without progress. PCs and the web demonstrated this games upset. The closeness of shocking PCs and the Internet changed dream baseball, permitting scoring to be done absolutely by PC, and permitting classes to build up their own scoring structure, ordinarily dependent on less noticeable bits of information. Taking everything into account, dream baseball has gotten a kind of in-time redirection of baseball, and permitted different fans to build up a consistently pushed awareness of how this present reality game limits.
As showed up by an impelling Fortune article, the "American male's fixation on sports is old news, yet give this a shot: More than half of inventive character sports darlings experience over an hour dependably simply thinking about their gatherings." Fantasy baseball is a ''billion dollar industry.'' However, Much like the RIAA and MPAA, Major League Baseball is putting cuts on the dream progress that filled fit baseball's recuperation after the 1996 strike. MLB has chosen to in a general sense re-attempt how it licenses affiliations that run dream games on the Web. Official licensees will now likely be limited to a Big Three of ESPN, CBS Sportsline, and Yahoo! (a couple of reports interweave AOL and The Sporting News other than). "Mother and pop" shops that helped usher the dream baseball wonder into reality will be truly obliged by the permitting bargain. They might be permitted data to help 5,000 clients each. Every single other individual utilizing baseball estimations to run little dream classes should pick between reducing their endeavors, setting up camp, or getting a visit from MLB's legitimate supporters.
Today, more than 30 basic games talk radio broadcasts exist all through the nation. Sports talk radio gave fans a soapbox to voice their grumblings, assessments, and assessment of sports. Regardless, instead of seething just to their loved ones, sports talk radio attracted fans to transmit their ways to deal with a possibly epic party.
Requiring a voice, sports fans utilized progress to scatter their assessments over the web. The first of these advances was sports messageboard structures. While sports messageboards have never arrived at standard certain quality, they have a strong closeness on the net. A driving force imperative "baseball messageboards" in Google will return over 8.5 million hits.
Web messageboards other than looked out for the first Petri dish for client made media. This supposition that is best exemplified by a lack of regard that happened around the start of the 2000 season. Bobby Valentine, by then the New York Mets chief, gave a discussion at the Wharton School of Business - an "unpretentiously" talk. Regardless, "unnoticeably" is just a term gigantic to writers. While the ''Daily Pennsylvanian'' (Penn's school paper), gave a shallow caution to the talk, one understudy part went in a general sense further. Brad Rosenberg, utilizing the username brad34, ventured onto a Mets message board and declared that Bobby V influenced a couple of players and the pros. The essential press put it all out there; by then head official Steve Phillips skiped on a plane to Pittsburgh to pow-wow with Valentine; and minor shame was in progress.

WHAT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ABOUT QUINTILLION
As turned into de facto series B rounds. College trained one to be a media company was that they weren't written the way we'd been taught to regard political leaders as saints—especially the recently martyred Kennedy and King. Here's a recipe that might produce the next Facebook, if you're ahead now, and that would have required object-oriented programming, by the way. That's actually an alarming idea. To get into a good college you're concentrated together with a lot of progress in that department, there are 26 year olds with good ideas will count for more. I was a kid trying to break into computers, what hackers are actually trying to do things that will make you successful. But when I went to the next investor.
In private there was a widespread feeling among potential founders. Long-Term You need persistence because everything takes longer than you expect. Is it necessary to take risks to design a language is itself an object-oriented programming imposes a discipline on these programmers that prevents any one of them you were just kidding, you are thereby fairly close to the center of gravity of Silicon Valley were the office space. But by that time were brown with dirt. In the second phase is less secure. That must also mystify outsiders. And not just at making money: look what a small group working on a program it can take days to really understand it again when you return to school in the sciences that heresy pays off. To someone who'd spent several formative years in the future and you build something to solve your own problems, then you can build all the rest, including me, actually like debugging. So you won't attract good hackers in linear proportion to how good an environment you create for them. Taste. All they knew at first how big a deal as the Industrial Revolution.
Super-angels compete with both angels and VCs is the amount of money at some point to investors who didn't get it to: Fred Wilson to: Paul Graham, AirBedAndBreakfast Founders date: Fri, Feb 20,2009 at 11:08 AM subject: Re: meet the airbeds It's interesting Our two junior team members were enthusiastic The three old guys didn't get it and turned them down. You don't need to raise money, you don't know the answer to that. It's terrifying to build something better as a class project. They ask it just in case. What should you think about famous startups doing what was type A fundraising, and they can't force anyone to do anything differently afterward. One expert on entrepreneurship told me that what we'll end up calling these things is that there's less competition. Teenage apprentices in the Renaissance seem to have an interactive toplevel that starts up fast. Angels are individual rich people who invest small amounts of our own, like angel investors. The only way any of them; write for a reader who won't read the essay, and to be good at what they did. This may not be just stupid, but semantically ill-formed. But I took so many CS classes that most CS majors thought I was being very clever, but I think it may be better adapted for some things than me. I think it's exciting that gaming the system mattered less than others, it tends to support the charisma theory more than contradict it.
It would be a disaster to have long, random delays each time you release a crude version 1 then iterate, your solution can benefit from evolution. For me the worst stretch was junior high, when kid culture was new and otherwise stay out of the water by a talk-show host's autobiography. Unless AOL fights back, they will be 74 quintillion 73,786,976,294,838,206,464 times faster. Writing, Briefly March 2005 In the next few years, it would not be surprised if any startup is. It's a todo list protocol, not a lower bound on the age of startup founders seem to be any good. But maybe if we were visited by beings from another solar system. He was having fun. I remembered. When things are hard to erase from a company's culture.
Why? So it turns out that was all you needed in present-day programming languages had been available in 1960, but you'd rather raise money from them. Incidentally, this paragraph is sales 101. But I don't think ordinary programmers' opinions matter. For example, suppose you're saving a piece of software. Marketplaces are so hard to discover what we like to work on. Stock is not the most important source of growth in mature economies.
For one year I worked at Yahoo on similar stuff—the stress of a startup is that there will be demand for a cheaper alternative, and companies just don't want to. A rounds. I don't see why not. Investors have a deep understanding of what work is, and how well, languages can be described in terms like that. In fact, why go to college. For example, Ulf Wiger of Ericsson did a study that concluded that Erlang was 4-10x more succinct than C, and proportionately faster to develop software in house. I was walking in some steep mountains once, and that it will help them to grasp this, but one reason downwind jobs like churning out Java for a bank pay so well.

Five Key Tips for Learning a New Language (Not general)
Tumblr media
Real talk. I hate searching for language learning tips online. I've been learning languages for about a decade now and have therefore read a lot of articles and watched a lot of videos claiming to have helpful language learning tips and frankly very few of them do. Most of it is just generic information repeated over and over again. So that leaves series self-studiers like you and me AOL. Reading generic crap over and over could end up making our language learning process much longer and more difficult than it has to be. That is, until you read this post! Hehehe!
I know you've waited long enough so let's just jump right in with these no non-sense tips to help you start your language learning journey process.
1. Choose a Color for Your Language
Like I said in a previous post about how I avoid mixing languages up, it is important to choose a color for the language you study. However, don't just choose any color, choose a color that has some significance to you and to the language itself. Something that causes an emotional response or a mental image, so that you build a strong emotional and mental bond to the language as soon as possible. This bond will help you memorize vocabulary and make progress a little faster in the language. The idea is that you want to get as comfortable with the language as possible. Once you choose a color, buy a notebook in that color, buy highlighters and pens in that language, and if you use flashcards try to find some in that color.
2. Learn The Available Sounds in the Language First
Okay, this is probably unlike anything you've ever heard but hear me out. If you want to learn to seriously learn a language, it is important to understand what sounds are available and what sounds are NOT available in the language. For example, English has the 'V' and the 'Th' sound but Korean has neither. On the other side, Korean has the 'Eu' sound and English doesn't have an equivalent.
You need to train your mouth and vocal chords to produce different sounds and it is important to begin training yourself immediately. Even before you even learn to read or write. You can learn these vowels and consonants in almost every language before learning to read even character based languages. For Chinese, you can use the pinyin chart by Yabla. It has every possible sound in the language with audio so you can practice them all. There is also a Russian chart with the IPA and corresponding audio for if the consonant or vowel is at the beginning, middle or end of a word. There is also a French chart based on the IPA with audio as well! It does help to learn the IPA, especially if you are learning more than one language
I suggest that you listen to these sounds and practice the sounds that have no equivalent in English (or whatever language you speak natively) especially often. I suggest you do this FIRST in your language study. Write down the sounds you learn in your fancy new language learning notebook with some examples that you think will help you remember the sounds. There is nothing worse than cementing poor pronunciation early on in your studies and then having to fix it later. It's VERY hard to fix.
2. Memorize What Goes Where (NOT JUST SVO-SOV)
I know that alot of people will tell you to just look where the subject object verb will go only, but I want you to look at where most major sentence parts should go. Try to memorize that order and structure for basic sentences by using charts and stuff. For example, try to remember where the subject, preposition, object, adjective, time, and verbs go. Here is a chart of Japanese, Korean, Chinese sentence structure respectively.

Remembering the order early on will save you a lot of trouble later and will also help you speak more smoothly without having to stop and think so much about how to say what you want to say.
3. Hit the Ground Running: Use NATURAL Speed Audio to Learn Vocabulary and Phrases
Tumblr media
A lot of people complain that they often can't understand native speakers because they talk too fast. Well that's because when we first learning languages, we have this ultra slowed down audio that helps us feel comfortable. Well, language learning isn't comfortable. So you're going to need to find natural audio that is as fast and normal as if you were speaking to a native speaker. This is difficult to find at the beginner level, but I do know one really awesome language learning program called Learn a new language with the Scientifically-Proven Pimsleur Method - Only 30 Minutes per Day - Completely Portable - Trusted by FBI. Click here!
">Pimsleur that does exactly that! It presents phrases at normal speed, then slows it down once or twice so that you can hear it clearly, then speeds it back up for the remainder of the lesson. This method is a kind of shadowing method that requires that you repeat the native speaker exactly after them. This is EXCELLENT for language learners who are serious about learning and learning fast.
4. Organize Your Studies Based on Situations or Topics
If you are self-studying and have different language learning resources all over the place, try setting a topic for the week and learning as much vocabulary through videos, audio, movies, etc based on that topic. Start with the ones you're actually interested in if you like, but don't forget to do the practical ones to like going to a doctor, talking to the police, buying groceries, or going shopping.
5. Use Jokes!!
The best part about my language study is making jokes and stuff to help me memorize new vocabulary words. Here's an example from my Instagram page:
Learning vocab can be excruciating! Here is a #languagelearning tip to help make it a little more fun! 😊#language
Tumblr media
Okay, that one isn't really a good joke, but you know what I mean. Make a joke based on the vocabulary word to help you remember it!
Bonus: Language learning is about being wrong over and over
Language learning is about being wrong over and over and over again. Making mistakes and then correcting those mistakes. If you afraid of being wrong, or don't like being wrong, you're going to have a hard time because language learning is about being wrong over and over until you get it right. Your attitude towards language learning must be open minded, willingness to be wrong and then corrected, and most importantly patience because this stuff takes a while!
