The Ultimate Guide to API Thread Gauges: Everything You Need to Know
If you work in the oil and gas industry, you are likely familiar with the importance of accurate and reliable thread gauges. In this post, we will dive into the world of API 5B Thread Gauges, specifically focusing on the API 7-1 standard. Let's explore the significance of these thread gauges and how they ensure the integrity of threaded connections used in drilling and production operations.
Tumblr media
What are API 5B Thread Gauges?
API 5B Thread Gauges are precision tools used to measure and verify the pitch diameter and thread form of threaded connections in oilfield equipment. These gauges are essential for ensuring the quality and integrity of threaded connections, which are used extensively in oil and gas drilling operations.
Understanding the API 7-1 Standard
The API 7-1 standard sets forth the requirements for rotary drilling equipment, including rotary drill stem elements, thread connections, and gauges. The standard specifies the dimensions, tolerances, and performance criteria for various types of thread connections used in drilling operations.
Thread Types
API 7-1 covers a range of thread types, including:
API Regular Threads: These threads are commonly used in drill pipes, drill collars, and other rotary drill stem elements. They provide reliable and secure connections for drilling purposes.
API Buttress Threads: Buttress threads are ideal for applications that require high torque transmission and resistance to axial loads. They are commonly used in casing and tubing connections.
API Modified Acme Threads: These threads are designed to withstand high tension and compression loads. They find applications in heavy-duty drilling operations.
API Extreme Line Threads: Extreme line threads are used in extreme conditions and require robust connections to withstand harsh environments.
Tumblr media
Gauge Design and Function
API 5B Thread Gauges are meticulously designed to ensure accuracy and reliability. They consist of precision-cut threads that match the corresponding thread types and sizes specified in the API 7-1 standard. These thread gauges serve as a reference for checking the acceptability of threads on various oilfield equipment.
The gauges are used by skilled technicians to measure critical parameters such as thread taper, pitch diameter, thread profile, and thread flank angles. By comparing the measured dimensions to the specified tolerances in API 7-1, technicians can identify any defects or deviations that may compromise the integrity of the threaded connections.
The Importance of API 5B Thread Gauges and API 7-1
Threaded connections play a crucial role in oil and gas drilling operations. They must be able to withstand immense pressure, torque, and other mechanical forces often encountered in harsh environments. The use of API 5B Thread Gauges helps ensure that these connections meet the stringent requirements set forth by the API 7-1 standard.
By adhering to API standards and utilizing API 5B Thread Gauges, oil and gas companies can:
Enhance Safety: Accurate and reliable threaded connections minimize the risk of leaks, blowouts, and other hazardous incidents.
Improve Efficiency: Properly threaded connections allow for efficient assembly and disassembly of drilling equipment, reducing downtime and optimizing operational efficiency.
Ensure Compatibility: API 5B Thread Gauges validate the compatibility of threaded connections across different manufacturers, promoting interoperability within the industry.
Maintain Quality: Regular inspection and verification using API 5B Thread Gauges help maintain the quality of threaded connections over time, ensuring long-term reliability.
Conclusion
In conclusion, API 5B Thread Gauges, in accordance with the API 7-1 standard, play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of threaded connections used in oil and gas drilling operations. By adhering to these standards and utilizing precise thread gauges, companies can ensure safer operations, higher efficiency, and long-lasting quality in their drilling equipment.

I'm a big fan of extensive reading apps for language learning, and even collaborated on such an app some 10 years ago. It eventually had to be shut down, sadly enough.
Right now, the biggest one in the market is the paywalled LingQ, which is pretty good, but well, requires money.
There's also the OG programs, LWT (Learning With Texts) and FLTR (Foreign Language Text Reader), which are so cumbersome to set up and use that I'm not going to bother with them.
I presently use Vocab Tracker as my daily driver, but I took a spin around GitHub to see what fresh new stuff is being developed. Here's an overview of what I found, as well as VT itself.
(There were a few more, like Aprelendo and TextLingo, which did not have end-user-friendly installations, so I'm not counting them).
Vocab Tracker
Tumblr media
++ Available on web ++ 1-5 word-marking hotkeys and instant meanings makes using it a breeze ++ Supports websites
-- Default meaning/translation is not always reliable -- No custom languages -- Ugliest interface by far -- Does not always recognise user-selected phrases -- Virtually unusable on mobile -- Most likely no longer maintained/developed
Lute
Tumblr media
++ Supports virtually all languages (custom language support), including Hindi and Sanskrit ++ Per-language, customisable dictionary settings ++ Excellent, customisable hotkey support
-- No instant meaning look-up makes it cumbersome to use, as you have to load an external dictionary for each word -- Docker installation
LinguaCafe
Tumblr media
++ Instant meanings thanks to pre-loaded dictionaries ++ Supports ebooks, YouTube, subtitles, and websites ++ Customisable fonts ++ Best interface of the bunch
== Has 7 word learning levels, which may be too many for some
-- Hotkeys are not customisable (yet) and existing ones are a bit cumbersome (0 for known, for eg.) -- No online dictionary look-up other than DeepL, which requires an API key (not an intuitive process) -- No custom languages -- Supports a maximum of 15,000 characters per "chapter", making organising longer texts cumbersome -- Docker installation
Dzelda
Tumblr media
++ Supports pdf and epub ++ Available on web
-- Requires confirming meaning for each word to mark that word, making it less efficient to read through -- No custom languages, supports only some Latin-script languages -- No user-customisable dictionaries (has a Google Form to suggest more dictionaries)

How to run The Sims 3 with DXVK & Reshade (Direct3D 9.0c)
Tumblr media
Today I am going to show you guys how to install Reshade and use Direct3D 9.0c (D3D9) instead of Vulkan as rendering API.
This tutorial is based on @nornities and @desiree-uk's awesome guide on "How to use DXVK with The Sims 3", with the goal of increasing compatibility between DXVK and Reshade. For users not interested in using Reshade, you may skip this tutorial.
If you followed nornities and desiree-uk's guide, it is strongly recommended that you start from scratch, meaning you should uninstall DXVK AND Reshade completely. Believe me when I say this: it will save you a lot of time, frustration, and make your life so much easier.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I am on patch 1.69.47 and running EA App on Windows 10, but it should work for version 1.67.2 on Steam and discs, too. This tutorial does not cover GShade.
Before we start
Backup your files, even the entire folder (Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin) if you want to be extra safe; you will thank yourself later. If you do not wish to backup the entire folder, at least backup the following:
reshade-presets
reshade-shaders
Reshade.ini
Options.ini (Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3)
Keep them somewhere secure, for your peace of mind (and sanity).
Tumblr media
Done? Great stuff, let us begin!
Step 1:
If you installed DXVK following nornite and desiree-uk's guide, go to the bin folder and delete the following files to fully uninstall DXVK, we are starting from scratch:
d3d9.dll
TS3.dxvk-cache
dxvk.conf
TS3_d3d9.log (or TS3W_d3d9.log)
Step 2:
If you already have Reshade on your PC, uninstall it using this: https://reshade.me/downloads/ReShade_Setup_X.X.X.exe (replace X.X.X with version number)
Step 3:
Perform a clean install of Reshade (I am using the latest version - 6.4.1 at the time of writing). Please note that you need a version no older than 4.5.0 or this method will not work. Choose DirectX9, click next.
Tumblr media
Once the installation is complete, you should see a "d3d9.dll" file inside The Sims 3's bin folder (Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin):
Tumblr media
It may all seem familiar thus far. Indeed, this is how we installed Reshade in the past before using DXVK, but here comes the tricky part:
Step 4:
Create a new folder outside of The Sims 3's game folder (I created it on my C drive), name it "dxvk" or whatever else you like. Remember where you saved this folder, we will return to it later.
Tumblr media
Step 5:
Now we need Reshade to load the next dll in order to chain Reshade with DXVK. Click on the search bar, and type in "View advanced system settings".
Tumblr media
Click on "Environment Variables..."
Tumblr media
Under "User variables", click "New..."
In the new pop-up window, find "Variable name:" and type in:
RESHADE_MODULE_PATH_OVERRIDE
for "Variable value:", paste in the directory that leads to the folder we created earlier. Once you are done, hit OK, and then hit OK again to save the changes made.
Tumblr media
You can use Command Prompt to check if this new environment variable has been registered by entering:
echo %RESHADE_MODULE_PATH_OVERRIDE%
It should return you the folder's location. If not, make sure you have typed in the variable name correctly and confirm the folder's location.
Tumblr media
Step 6:
Download DXVK (version 2.3.1) from here: https://github.com/doitsujin/DXVK/releases/tag/v2.3.1 and unzip "dxvk-2.3.1.tar.gz" (I use 7-Zip, but winRAR works, too). Remember to choose x32, and move only "d3d9.dll" to the folder we made earlier.
Now we have two "d3d9.dll" files, one from Reshade (lives in the bin folder), and the other from DXVK (in this new folder, outside of The Sims 3 game folder).
Tumblr media
Step 7:
Download "dxvk.conf" here: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/blob/master/dxvk.conf delete everything inside, and enter the following:
d3d9.textureMemory = 1 d3d9.presentInterval = 1 d3d9.maxFrameRate = 60 dxvk.hud = devinfo
Ctrl + S to save the document.
Tumblr media
The first 3 lines are taken from @nornities and @desiree-uk's guide.
The last line is only for debugging purposes. Due to the inconvenient location occupied by the HUD (top left corner of your screen), it should be removed once the installation is successful.
Step 8:
Drag "dxvk.conf" into the bin folder, where Reshade's "d3d9.dll", "TS3.exe", and "TS3W.exe" all live.
Tumblr media
Step 9:
Now fire up the game and check if both are showing up:
Tumblr media
Lastly, check for “TS3.dxvk-cache” in the bin folder:
Tumblr media
If it is there, congratulations! You have successfully installed DXVK and Reshade utilising D3D9 as API! You can now go to "dxvk.conf" and remove its last line "dxvk.hud = devinfo" and have fun! :)
Hope this tutorial isn't too confusing, the last thing I want is to over-complicate things. If you still need some help, comment down below or send me a DM/ask, I'll try and troubleshoot with you to the best of my ability.
Credits:
@nornities and @desiree-uk for their fantastic guide.
@criisolate for promulgating the usage of DXVK in TS3 community.
reddit user folieadeuxmeharder for helping me troubleshoot and informing me of this workaround.
doitsujin for creating DXVK.
crosire for creating Reshade.

*Remember to run the DX11 batch fix if you are using DX11. I do not use DX11 with my game, when I looked up what would happen if I ran the batch fix even though I don't have this turned on, the consensus was not to do this if you are not using the DX11 option. For those that have never done it, do not fear for it is very simple and will update any CC in your mods folder that needed it to work with DX11. I know the new DX11 API causes issues having something to do with the wall items, or other image texture-related things- that I know of. If you do not have Sims 4 Studio, here is a link about how to install it from their official website. And of course, if you need help please send me a message.

Finally found out why my shrimp were dying.
I do a 10% ( one gallon ) water change every 10 days in my shrimp tank. I’d been doing this for about a month and a half and my shrimp were thriving and breeding, very active and eating.
I went camping for about a week and missed the water change I was supposed to do, so when I got home, I changed 20% of the water instead of 10%. The result was that, within a few days, I’d lost ten shrimp and the rest were lethargic and refusing to eat. I couldn’t test the water because my test strips had gotten wet, rendering them useless.
So I finally bit the bullet and instead bought the $50 api water test kit with a gift card I had saved. Brought it home and did all the tests ( and got a small chemical burn during the process ). Here were the results:
Tumblr media
( with temperature preset to 78° F )
Tumblr media
ammonia: 0 ( ideal )
nitrites: 0 ( ideal )
nitrates: less than 20 ppm ( ideal )
… and ph: 6.0 or less, since the test doesn’t register anything less than 6.0
Tumblr media
I couldn’t figure out why the ph was SO LOW. I had used 20 drops of ph+ about three weeks prior and it had stabilized the ph to where I needed it. It should have remained steady.
Now, I used Clover Valley distilled water for my water changes, since I have copper plumbing pipes and even the smallest trace amounts of copper will instantly kill shrimp. I don’t want to risk either that or dechlorinating drops not working properly, so I just use the distilled water.
I also have shrimp-specific substrate that promotes a lower ph level. However, it shouldn’t lower the ph THAT much, as the tank has been fully cycled since January.
Tumblr media
I went and bought a new gallon today and tested it for ph. Distilled water is SUPPOSED to have a true neutral ph of 7.0.
Tumblr media
However, when I tested it, it registered as 6.0 OR LOWER.
Tumblr media
Not even the smallest trace of green hue in the water, and even paler than the 6.0 test comparison chart.
Just to be sure, I tested it again with the high range ph droplets. Same result: extremely pale water, 6.0 or less. This is not only false advertising, but it also is hazardous to fishkeepers who use distilled water for water changes.
Yesterday I added 20 drops of ph+ to my 10 gallon shrimp tank ( the instructions say to add 2 drops per 1 gallon, therefore 10 • 2 = 20 needed drops ) and it didn’t affect the water. I added another 40 today, and here was the result:
Tumblr media
( ignore my pink plastic glove in the corner )
Water between 6.4 and 6.8. Just minutely beneath the preferred 6.5–7.5 for neocaridina ( dwarf ) shrimp. I may add another ten drops of ph+ if I lose any more shrimp in the next 4-7 days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Multiple sources stating ideal ph of 6.5 to 7.5 ⬆️
And the impact of low ph ⬇️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I lost Micah to the white ring of death, as well as multiple of the juveniles and possibly Yeti, as well ( unconfirmed, as she may have simple died of old age ). I had thought that this was due to the water being too hard, so I was performing more water changes, when in fact it was due to the low ph, which I was inadvertently affecting even further by diluting the water excessively.
So, the mystery is ( finally ) solved. I’m going back to my 10% water changes per 10 days, and will be testing the water an hour after each water change to add ph+ if necessary. Hopefully, I won’t lose any more shrimp 🙏
Keeping fish and shrimp is always trial and error. The parameters will never be 100% perfect and you’ll always lose shrimp simply from the stress of molting ( which is a natural cause of death when not because of the white ring of death or a parameter-caused incomplete molt ) or just because they are tiny, fragile creatures being kept in replicas of their natural habitats. Don’t be discouraged if you have a high loss rate, and don’t be afraid to try again if you need to.
Fishkeeping is, when it comes down to the fundamental, a hobby, and like all other hobbies, you’re not going to become an expert overnight. You’ll mess up just like I did, it’s inevitable. Just remember to always do your research and check the water parameters before taking action!

There are a lot of old jokes about people who program for a living and then code at home as a hobby. I don't actually do much of that, but I do play plenty of programming-esque puzzle games (eg, everything by ZachTronics). Fun challenges without the arbitrary difficulties imposed by figuring out how some fucking API works or explaining things to clients.
I picked up Human Resource Machine many many years ago, completed (including optional optimization challenges) 38 or so levels in about 20 hours of playtime before getting stymied trying to optimize the last three, then ran out of juice.
It's pretty fun, basically you make little drag and drop assembly programs that your character follows to transform a given input into a specified output. It's by the Tomorrow Corporation, most famous, I think for World of Goo. So it's a really cute, surreal experience.
Finally picked it up again last weekend. Went through the same amount in about ten hours, and finally finished, with every achievement, after a few more. I admit it, after I got the prime factorization speed challenge, I finally just looked up how people were doing the size one. Had to kick myself for missing the obvious trick. I also looked up hints for the speed challenge on "digit exploder" (separately output the digits of the input 1 to 3 digit number, no leading zeroes), because I thought there might be some more clever trick than just a fully unrolled program, but nope. My 125 behemoth cleared it handily (though obviously isn't record setting; I got 138 steps; somebody has a 126 command 119 steps entry).
Those two (optional side levels) had actually stopped me from even trying the final level last time, so I was surprised when my first attempt beat both challenges.
Still in the mood for puzzles, so I might move straight on to the sequel (7 Billion Humans; apparently parallel programming inspired), or try out some more Zachtronics games, like SHENZHEN I/O or TIS-100.

I also have not checked the needed mods that any of these mods may need so.
(Please note that there may be spelling/grammar mistakes in the names of this mods!)

recipe for the indonesian style sambal that i made earlier !
disclaimer: this is technically not my recipe, i got the idea from @/ravethecrave on tiktok, but i modified the recipe a little bit just to use what i have, i think it’ll be easier for u guys to follow too ! :)
Ingredients:
- half a red onion or one shallot
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 6 cherry tomatoes
- 6 small chillies(i used cili akar/bird’s eye chilies, these are on the spicier side. you can also use cili padi/cili api, or cabe keriting, depending on what you can find)
- a pinch of salt
- 2 tsp of light brown sugar(you can also use palm sugar/dark brown sugar)
- a pinch of msg
- half a can of tuna in water(or any other protein)
- a blender or mortar & pestle(you can also mash using a fork or spatula)
Instructions:
1. start by chopping your ingredients into small pieces. this makes it easier to mash later.
2. boil the tomatoes, chili, garlic and onion until soft. remove them from the water and set aside.
3. in the mortar, add your salt, sugar and msg. if you’re using a blender, do the same. if you’re using the same pan from earlier, drain the water before adding these, with the heat off.
4. add your boiled ingredients from earlier, and mash or blend them. make sure to press the grains of the sugar, salt and msg into the ingredients. this gives more flavour.
5. once mashed, mix thoroughly. give it a taste and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
6. put the pan back on the heat and add your tuna or protein of choice. mix well and allow it to cook/heat up.
7. you’re done ! this is usually enjoyed with rice, but can be eaten with almost anything<3

The elemental splits time! (I've promised this way back then) (I'm not refering to triple splits only)
(Up until Gentar arc cause it's subject to change)
Let's start:
-Og trio (Petir/Angin/Tanah) or (Halilintar/Taufan/Gempa) in S1Ep2
-Middle Child Trio (Tanah/Api/Air) or (Gempa/Blaze/Ice) in S3Ep25
-(Halilintar/Taufan/Gempa/Blaze/Ice) in Movie 1
-Hepta Split (Halilintar/Taufan/Gempa/Blaze/Ice/Duri/Solar) in Movie 1
-Cooking Trio (Petir/Tanah/Daun) or (Halilintar/Gempa/Duri) in GL1Ep8
[R.I.P for those who thought it's Ep10] [They also have a short redebut with 2nd tier in Movie 2]
-(Angin/Tanah/Daun) in GL1Ep9
-Nova Prix (Petir/Angin/Api) in GL1Ep15
-(Petir/Angin/Daun) in GL1Ep17
-Trio TroubleMaker (Angin/Api/Daun) or (Taufan/Blaze/Duri) in GL1Ep18
[TTM had a redebut in 2nd tier, hence the 2nd tier name]
-(Tanah/Api/Daun) in GL1Ep22-(Petir/Api/Air) in GL1Ep23
-(Petir/Api/Cahaya) in GL1Ep24
-(Halilintar/Taufan/Gempa/Duri/Solar) in Movie 2
-Temper Duo (Blaze/Ice) in Movie 2
-(Ice/Gempa) in Movie 2
-(Halilintar/Solar) in Movie 2
-(Halilintar/Gempa/Blaze/Ice/Duri) in Sori Ep3
[The slightly 'better' Cooking Trio]
-Traffic Light Trio(Halilintar/Duri/Solar) in Sori Ep5
-Photosynthesis Duo (Duri/Solar) in Sori Ep6
-(Halilintar/Gempa) in Gentar Ep1
[No new splits in Windara, how shocking.]
And S2 comic ver.:
-(Blaze/Ice/Duri) in Issue 1
-(Halilintar/Taufan/Ice) in Issue 14
-(Taufan/Solar) in Issue 20
And the total for all is:
-Halilintar: 13 - (14 for comic)
Taufan: 8 - (10 for comic)
Gempa: 11
Blaze: 10 - (11 for comic)
Ice: 7 - (9 for comic)
Duri: 9 - (10 for comic)
Solar: 6 - (7 for comic)
In conclusion: I rooted for Blaze (and failed), Daun has way more than expected, the results might be different if counted trio only, and Hali solo's as usual.
Why?
-Maple Anon (Justice for Cahaya)
You are very dedicated on counting these times theyve appeared
Did you like skim through every episode for these or through the boboiboy wikipedia
And tbh, im surprised cahaya has 6/7 appearances as split
Hali aint the popular boi for nothing ,he appears 24/7
*cough* bois main element *cough*
I stand by that

Iblis bukan hamba yang berilmu.
Pernah dengar seseorang mengatakan:
So, iblis bukanlah makhluk yang berilmu.

How to Learn Effectively?
(Tips and tricks!)
1. Apply Pomodoro technique, that is, study for 25 minutes and then take rest for 5 minutes. Do not look at your cellphone in this time, rather go, have a walk to refresh your mind. After 4 sessions, take a long break. Or you can modify it according to your convenience, e.g., study for 50 minutes and take rest for 10 minutes. It's okay to study less, but you have to get deeply absorbed into what you're studying.
2. Imagine the topic as you're studying. Use analogy and visualization. For example, "What is API?" Imagine a restaurant where the kitchen is the backend, and where you sit to eat is the frontend, now API is the waiter who takes your order, goes to kitchen and bring you ready food!
3. Take notes as you're learning, then freshly rewrite it in an organized way on your notebook.
4. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. For example, a math or figure drawing requires practice. Now do it without having a look at the solution. You'll make mistakes, but then you'll get to see your weakness, where you need to improve. Practice is boring but it's the most effective way.
5. Try to have at least 8 hours of sleep at night. Sleep helps consolidate memories by strengthening synaptic connections formed during the day, making temporary information more likely to be stored in long-term memory. So, it's a must for effective learning.
6. When you're bored, pick an interesting topic. When you're stuck, skip the topic and move ahead. But don't give up.
7. Study consistently. No matter how little you study, it's better than not studying at all.
"My advice is, never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time." — Charles Dickens
