Angel Dust x Artist!Reader

After one of Charlie’s…interesting exercises, Vaggie suggests that the group should do therapy art, since y’know, it calms the soul. And Charlie couldn’t be more eager to do so!

The lobby was set up with canvases, paints, brushes, everything you could need!

Unlike most of Charlie’s previous activities, almost everyone was willing to participate, although Husk and Alastor kinda stood off to the side and watched.

Charlie was painting a cartoon version of Razzle and Dazzle, Vaggie was painting a sunset based off of the lesbian flag, Pentious was painting him in his war machine taking over Hell, and Niffty? Eh.. You don’t wanna know..

You on the other hand? Stood in front of your canvas, clueless, “Y’know, I could model for you..” Angel says into your ear.

Your head turned to face him “Sure.” You say nonchalantly before turning back to your canvas.

“Wait really?-”

“Just please keep your clothes on.”

Eventually you had moved your stuff over to the other side of the lobby so Angel could pose on the couch.

He had a soft smirk, as he layed on the couch, his arm propping up his face. Although, he began to get fidgety, messing with his fluff.

“Stop moving.” You said with a soft smile.

Angel kept messing his fluff. “Ange!”

“Gee, sorry!” He said, chuckling, moving his arm back to its original position.

“So uh, how’d you get into all this?” Angel asked as the sketching of your pencil went to a stop and you began actually painting it. “College, back when I was alive I wanted to be an art therapist.” You explained.

“Fitting.” He murmured. For the most part, it was silent, a comforting silence though, the presence of each other was oddly soothing.

“Okay.” You muttered, squiggling your signature down at the bottom of the canvas quickly, “I’m done.” You announce to him, turning the canvas around to show him.

Angel perks up immediately, amazed by your skill, he slowly gets up off the couch to get a closer look. “Damn…” He said, his voice above a whisper, “Can I… Can I keep it?” He asked, hopeful that you might say yes, “Duh.” You giggled.

“For once the smooth talker is shocked, that’s new.” You say with a smirk. “And for once the introvert is talking back, that’s new.” Angel replies, but the usual attitude in his voice isn’t there, his voice is barely above a whisper as his eyes are still entranced with the painting.

You take the painting off the stand and hand it to Angel. You look over to a nearby window notice the sun is setting, despite the red sky still being as clear as day, “It’s getting late, I’m gonna head up to my room.” You say. “Yeah… Me too.”

As you and Angel are both walking to your rooms, you don’t say much, until a voice pipes up, “Y’know, I really owe ya for the painting.” Angel says, still looking at it, “Owe me what?” You ask, as you both arrive at your door.

“A date, maybe.” Angel says, pecking your forehead, “Stop by my room at eight tomorrow, if your interested~”

Okay, so I heard/read (can’t remember where) some person say that Husk, back when he was an overlord, was dubbed “The King Of Hearts”, because of all the heart prints in his body, (and bc his powers are connected to card stuff)

So now, I’m stuck imagining him being really popular with hundreds of admirers. He’s stolen more hearts than souls.

Which lead me to this random super crack scenario I came up with, after watching an old 2000s show lmao:

- Cannibal Town had injured people, after the extermination, and wrecked homes.

- Charlie decides to both help and use the situation as a redemption activity; earn enough money to finally support cannibal town’s people. (Ofc, she asked her dad to take care of it, may they fail to get enough money though.)

- Alastor suggests they host a ‘date auction’. Highest bidder willing to donate, gets a date.

Angel: “Gee. I’m flattered and all, Smiles. But, I’m kiiiinda on break today…”

Alastor: “Oh, don’t worry my effeminate fellow! I wasn’t suggesting to use you! Aside from the fact that another overlord owns you, and I don’t wish to deal with their jealous tantrums— I know someone who was quite the charmer, and still is if he puts himself back together! Right Husker?”

- Then Alastor goes on and on about how Husk was constantly targeted by admirers, without even trying. And how, regardless of being stripped of his status, he knows sinners and hell borns would die (a second time) to have one day with the King of Hearts all to themselves.

Alastor: “Trust me, Husker. There were once rumors that the King of Hearts ‘captured’ my heart, so I gambled for your soul because I wanted you all to myself. As repulsive and incorrect as those baseless claims were, it proves that their are still sinners out there, desperate for you, and weren’t happy the day you were taken down.”

- Sooo… They did the auction. Husk reassured Charlie that he was fine with it. (Besides, Alastor let him wear a suit similar to his old one.) Not many sinners showed up, because not everyone could afford to buy out the King of Hearts for the day.

- The bidding starts somewhere around 1,000, slowly getting higher, raising a sign with their number label on it as they scream out one high price above the other, until…

???: “60 grand.”

- Everyone turns to see a really hot, busty, woman in the middle of the crowd, holding up her number.

- Angel’s eyes are wide in disbelief. He’d recognize those jugs anywhere!

Angel: *hissing under his breath* “Tit-fucker..!”

Vaggie: “Wait. What?”

- Like hell Angel was going to let “Tiffany Tit-fucker” buy Husk out for a whole fucking day!

- So he shoves one of the bidders away, stealing their number sign.

Angel: “Um… 60, 001?”

Tiffany: “70 grand.”

Angel: “70, 001?”

Tiffany: “80 grand.”

Angel: “80, 00—Fuck it…” *tosses sign to the ground* “No amount of dick sucking is gonna get me that much cash…”

- So, Tiffany buys out Husk, The King of Hearts, for the whole day, and a jealous Angel (and Niffty, just because I want her there) spies on them during the whole date.

I would imagine that he'd find you after a few more weeks pass by after finally knowing that you were in hell. You were good at hiding, he concluded, if it took him this long to even know you were right in the kingdom he ruled upon. So naturally, it took him quite a while to find you.

I think you would be well acquainted with either Rosie or Carmilla. With both of them having some sort of connection to Alastor, he would most likely be the reason on why Charlie found you. With Rosie, as we all know, she and Alastor share quite a platonic relationship. A dear friend of the Cannibal town's little Rose is a friend of his! And of course, he'd tell you all about his adventures with the Hotel. While with Carmilla, I would say that after getting close to her, she'd trusted you enough to bring you to some of the Overlord meetings. Thus, leading you to meet the Radio Demon, whom you befriend (surprisingly). And once he returned after being gone for 7 years, he'd start telling you all about a little hotel that he found interesting.

You were conflicted after hearing about the Hotel. A part of you wanted to go there, holding on to a sliver of hope that maybe, you could have a chance to redeem yourself and meet with your dearest friends. But that thought was quickly shoved away as soon as you realized that if you were to go there, you'd meet his daughter, which may lead you to meet him as well.

Why did you not want to go see him? After all these years, you were looking for a chance. A chance to finally reunite with him. And now, it's right infront of you, so why aren't you rushing to that Hotel? Why were you suddenly acting like a goddamn coward?

It was a feeling that you didnt understand. A feeling that you didnt want to understand. You were content with your life, having a few good friends, being respected as an Overlord (ofc u are an overlord), and being able to do many things freely that you wouldnt be judged for. But why were you so scared of seeing him? Of meeting him? Of being together with him again? Wasn't that the reason you were here in the first place?

Imagine your surprise when you see the princess of hell at your doorstep, beaming at you with a bright smile. Oh how it hurt to see it. You were really confused, yes, but you decided to entertain her as your guest, ofc you still have manners. You didn't know if her arrival was coincidental or not as she stated that she came to Cannibal Town to try and convince them to join the war against heaven.

You stayed behind the shadows as you watched how your dear companions supported the princess's plan. You were not against it, no. But you couldn't bring yourself out to help them, as much as you wanted to. And much to your delight, Charlie understood your decision and didn't force you.

And she was right, more than that actually.

So imagine her surprise when she saw you on the battlefield, successfully defending Alastor against Adam. What surprised her more is that Adam seems to recognize you from somewhere, and that thought made her mind wander off. You were about to flee along with Alastor, but the princess held you down, pleading for you to not leave yet. She has to keep you here until her father arrives. She's not letting go of the chance that her father would see you again, as little as she knows about your relationship. She just knows that he'd be happy to see you.

You didn't leave, but you made your presence unknown until the battle ended. You didn't want to see him. Yes, you wanted to be as near as possible to him, but the pain that claws at your heart, the pit that continuously grows in your stomach, the tightening of your throat, everything prevented you from getting any more closer to him.

But that didnt stop him from getting closer to you.

As you walked through the aftermath of the battle, carefully threading through the chaos that it inflicted. After Alastor suddenly excused himself, you decided to check up on the princess. When your eyes landed on her, you immediately made your way towards her, disregarding anyone and everyone who was near.

And when you finally found her,

He finally found you.

Sooo... Can we talk about Vox and Alastor Cause I'm literally obsessed...

Basically headcanons since of course I seen the post running around where Viv calls their relationship sad and complicated.

Being an 'angst-girlie' I HAVE to gobble this up so here's a few headcanons I immediately thought about.

Mentions of Valentinos acts against humanity so watch out for that. A bit, like a smidge, of kissing and making out mentioned as well.

For Starters

I happily wrote a fanfic for pics that @milariro drew (lovely artist, check em out!) and I think Valentino definitely plays a big roll in the fallout.

So Vox and Alastor were pals yeah, hung out, chit chatted, ate food together, even got close enough for Alastor to feel comfortable doing more intimate actions like cuddling and hugging and such.

I can't help but think of Vox perhaps being on the Acespectrum himself? He's giving "I will but I don't have to" so I get more demi vibes off of him. He probably doesn't give a fuck about anyone else like he does with Alastor so that's why.

I think he could build intimacy with others yes but he's so focused on his work usually outside of his competition.

Vox probably came to hell and started off really small and little so as he grew, he wanted to grow and took his time to try and get bigger. I would say that Valentino could come in here if not later when Vox seemed to develop feelings for Alastor and in doing so Alastor wants to return those said feelings but he's scared.

Scared of what? The unknown.

He probably is someone who doesn't like when he can't see what's going to occur or happen before it actually does.

He's a runner. Imma say that because I can be one. He cares for Vox but he can't stop the way his heart seems to race when they get just a bit too close...

Valentino probably comes in and ruins everything, most likely at a time when Alastor starts to get some sort of understanding on his own feelings and seeing Vox practically become infatuated with Valentino really leaves a void in his own heart.

Of course he wants to support Vox in his endeavors but... Valentino? Out of all people?

Alastor is most likely disgusted by even the thought of Valentino and seeing Vox so happy and eager with him sets. Him. Off.

A lot of arguments now, harsh words and such and really it's from Vox as he's confused and lost as to Alastor's behavior. He probably picked up on it and asked multiple times just for Alastor to brush him off every time so now that smoke is in the air everything is coming out.

Vox probably would confess he's in love with Alastor in this argument, tears, crying and all and Alastor can't help the way he feels about it

He feels he's at fault, and his airy silence doesn't help with all the anguish in the air already

He's scared. He loves Vox as well but something about the situation makes it hard for Alastor to swallow all the information and this leads to the 7 year disappearance

This mother fucker definitely leaves without saying a single thing to Vox and that hurts Vox more than anything else.

What else can Vox do without a single letter or sign as to where his friend went and of course he's going to know he's the reason to a certain extent

It definitely hurts both of them, like... World shattering.

Vox has no choice but to go to Valentino.

I can't help but analyze how Vox seemed... Happy? That he thought Angeldust quit when Valentino was raging. Vox does not love this man...

He of course knows about the things Valentino does... Or maybe... He doesn't? Like maybe he has an idea but he hates to think about it... He's never around when it actually happens to someone?

Valentino probably...has even done things to Vox himself?

Maaaannn like I said these aren't canon ofc but now I'm just rambling. Vox probably goes through similar ways of abuse from Val but he just puts up with it like everyone else? I can see him being so broken behind closed doors and when he's in front of others he puts on the cocky persona of his. It's something he's picked up from Alastor, smiling was a tactic all on its own.

He's unconscious of it but Vox thinks of Alastor all the time; when he wakes, when he works, etc etc and I think that in very little ways Alastor does the same thing.

Alastor definitely thinks of Vox often but he's so much better at hiding it. These two are so broken when they are alone.

I'm hoping they talk more about these two but OMG imagine so heartfelt ass communication after so maybe years... They definitely need it, to air out everything

And imagine that while they are Vox is speaking and Alastor is adamantly listening as he's always done and before he even knows it he's leaning forward, closer and Vox doesn't necessarily realize it until Alastor is just a breath away.

Tbh Alastor wouldn't even know what he was doing, it's like he's doing it unconsciously...no thoughts in mind and when Vox stops for a moment and just right then everything just seems to make sense? Alastor looks at him as if there's nothing but him and Vox would return the gaze before they closed in with a kiss

It's not just a little kiss either, it's one that starts off soft and gentle and leads into something hotter... Something raunchy as they cling to each other and hold each other.

Someone drew a pick with Vox being pinned against the wall by Alastor while kissing and I'll tag them (HERE) when I find them again but yeah it's like that.

It's like Alastor is letting off steam that's been trapped inside him for all those years even prior to his disappearance and he wants to be careful and gentle but he's... Excited, happy to have Vox in his arms again so he gets rough, biting, nipping, sucking until Vox seems to just completely become goop against him because in reality this is all he's wanted from Alastor... To be close to him, to hug him, to kiss him...

To help him, to protect him, to watch him grow and grow together with him.

Alastor still struggles with admitting it but he's just as happy to be with Vox too. (It's giving soulmates?? Soulmate AU ANYONE??! I'LL WRITE IT? PAY ME AND ILL START IT TODAY???!!! Ahem...

But anyway they are married your honor!

I can see Vox coming to the Hotel after he manages to break free of Valentino. Maybe running off and disappearing on him and pulling an Alastor while Valentino rages at everyone else to find him. Velvet is broken between helping and not.

Vox coming to the hotel would be a shit fest to start off but... He is actually really helpful, and he takes the time to rebuild a connection with Angeldust and Alastor and he seems just so much more... Happy and genuine? And sometimes when Alastor notices he can't help but show a genuine smile as he admires Vox.

They would eventually come together to help publicize the hotel and WOAH are they banging!

The radio demon and TV demon have come together to help some crappy hotel rehabilitate sinners? Holy shit!

They reel people in from all over for various reasons whether it be fangirls shipping them or people actually wanting help and to grow...

They are happy together but...

Valentino and whoever is on his side of things definitely managed to also pick up on the sudden booming aura coming off of that hotel and maybe...maybe they'll pay a visit.

One that reminds Vox of everything that Valentino did to him and OMG imagine Vox having a panic attack or something, running off because he knows it's Val? Leaving Alastor to go hunt for him?

A fight would be interesting.

Ok so. I just saw a Reddit comment (idk why I get on reddit fandom cause it always ends up making me mad) saying that the Alastor and Husk scene was probably the first time Alastor was that violent towards Husk because of him talking back to Al in the first place.

Aka, Alastor isn't abusive to Husk, except for that one time. And ISTG that comment made me want to crawl into the darkest pit of hell (ha, get it?).

SO, let's explain why Alastor's treatment of Husk isn't a one time thing.

Husk and abuse: a character analysis.

First of all, let's explain Husk's personality and why he acts the way he does.

Husk's character is presented to us as a grumpy old alcoholic who only wants people to leave him the fuck alone. He doesn't care about the hotel, about any of its members, or about Alastor's plans. He doesn't want to collaborate, he doesn't want to be there, and he doesn't care enough to act as though he does.

But, reality is:

Husk cares. Way more than he wishes he did.

He doesn't show it often, but he cares. He shows it when he calls Sir Pentious, Charlie, Vaggie and Angel out at the beginning of Masquerade, and ofc, he shows it with Angel throughout this whole chapter.

(I find the heart motif on Husk's demon form to be very interesting, actually. I like to think that one of the things Husk hates the most about himself is that, as much as he wants to fake otherwise, as much as he sees it as a weakness, as much as it just complicates everything, he cares. And death taunts him with that, displaying for everyone to see the heart he so desperately wants to hide.)

Also, Husk is very good at reading people. He hates fakeness, he hates lies, he hates people being dense because they're trying to ignore a reality about themselves.

All of these things get on his nerves enough to show that he, in fact, cares.

And he sure as fuck loves (maybe a bit too much) winning an argument against someone who's pissing him off.

So, let's go to Alastor.

A while ago I saw an amazing post (that now i cant find aaaa if someone finds it pls let me know) that talked about how this isn't the expression of someone who's just been beaten at poker, but it's an expression of sadness and betrayal.

This post implied, therefore, that Husk and Alastor had built a previous relationship of trust before the betrayal, either platonic or romantic (which had been just manipulation from Alastor's side, just like he's now doing with Charlie)

If we take this into account, it makes more sense why Husk would care about Mimzy being trouble. Not only for the safety of the rest at the hotel, but also just a tiny little bit, for Alastor's own safety.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very sure that Husk hates Alastor, but there's this tiny, annoying part of him that can't help but care.

So, let's cut to the infamous scene.

Husk didn't confront Alastor because he had never been violent towards him before. Husk confronted Alastor because he cares, and because people being stupid gets on his nerves, and because he finds it hard to hold back when he knows he's right.

Also, it had been 7 years since he had seen Alastor. It's normal that he's gained more confidence to confront him.

AND, despite all of this, he was reluctant in the beggining.

In the first screenshot, Husk gets visibly angry at Alastor because of his dismissive attitude while his back is turned at him. But when Husk speaks again, you can see him visibly holding back, choosing his words carefully with that "I mean".

(Go rewatch the scene if you wanna, it's way more clear that way than via screenshots ksdldf)

Compare this to the much more accusatory way Husk was calling out Chaggie, Sir Pentious and Angel in back chapter 4. Husk is being careful with Alastor.

Despite all we know about Husk's personality that leads him to warn Alastor about Mimzy in the first place, Husk still holds all of that back.

Why? Cause he knows better than to say something that might anger him.

It's only when Alastor touches Husk and calls him his pet that Husk loses his temper.

As we know, Husk has VERY strong personal boundaries (probably some of them come from Alastor's touch itself)

Alastor trespassing his boundaries is what makes Husk stop thinking logically. He's pissed, and he hates Alastor, and he hates how he makes him feel so powerless, so insignificant, like less of a human.

And he bites back.

The comment I saw implied that Husk said the "big talk for someone who's also on a leash" because he thought it wouldn't have any major effect on Alastor, and he unknowingly touched a touchy subject.

But this is even slightly out of character for Husk. He didn't say it because he didn't think it would make Alastor mad, he said it because he knew it would make him mad.

Husk is fucking amazing at reading people. He knew it was a touchy subject. He wasn't thinking about consequences, he was thinking about pissing Alastor off, about regaining control.

(He's a gambler, cmon. Searching for control and power without minding the consequences is his thing.)

This is NOT a "what the fuck is he doing?" face. It's an "oh no, not again" face.

And immediately, he tries to take it back. The rush of making Alastor mad passes away the moment he pulls out the chain, and Husk knows what's coming.

Alastor has done that before. Judging by Husk's body language, there's NO way on earth he hasn't.

One VERY important thing to take into account is: victims have personalities.

Of course, victims tend to have unifying factors in their trauma responses due to similar experiences, but overall: a victim isn't an archetype, it's a person.

There are different types of abuse. Everyone reacts differently towards abuse.

Saying that Husk isn't being abused by Alastor just because he talks back is. Well. Kinda weird, isn't it?

(Maybe I'm exaggerating but doesn't it sound like victim blaming a bit??)

The important thing is that this is how Valentino and Alastor treat Angel and Husk:

Yes, they are different types of abuse. Yes, Angel and Husk's reactions to it are different.

But this doesn't make one kind less valid than the other. And just because Alastor isn't sexually abusive to Husk, that doesn't mean Husk's abuse is "less important" (this isn't a competition, ffs)

Husk's personality, Husk's hatred of stupidity, Husk's reactive nature, Husk's strong boundaries, don't automatically disappear when he's talking with his abuser. He's still Husk.

And yet, we can still see the signs of abuse, such as Husk holding back at the beginning because he knows what Alastor may do if he's mad, or him flinching away slightly when Alastor turns suddenly to look at him, or him trying to take back what he just said immediately because he's scared of the consequences.

And, let's be serious. Alastor is a serial killer. He enjoys watching people suffer. He enjoys knowing that people fear him.

And, since he's on a "leash", as Husk said, I'm very sure this hurts his ego a whole lot. So, it makes sense that he loves feeling that he has control over the souls he owns, that they fear him, to forget he's not completely free himself.

It's not so far fetched to assume that Alastor gets a quick and an ego boost out of seeing Husk like that, terrified and shivering on the ground. So I don't believe he hasn't done it before.

(And I mean, even if this only happened the one time we see it in the show, it would still be abusive?? It would be Alastor using his power to physically and psychologically torment Husk, which is abuse, even if it's only once ((which i highly doubt)))

In conclusion: Alastor is an abuser. There's no way around it. And Husk is a victim of abuse.

Tbh I think everything I said here is pretty obvious?? Like to me that scene always read as a way of the show telling us Alastor's true colors once no one's watching, and the way he treats Husk. Like, it didn't even cross my mind that it might have been an isolated occurrence.

I was reading that lovely little fic of yours (the sentient Hazbin hotel one!~) and I had a wee thought.

The watcher, or the reader in this case, is described as a light (blue i think it was?) butterfly; that glows.

What if one day the watcher goes to the universe, and they look like a blue butterfly, I feel like since the butterfly is seen as elegant and such; the reader might resemble a ballerina, with large blue wings and white hair (ofc this is just my thoughts on the matter) but they seek out the hotel and Lucifer and Alastor recognize them being such butterfly; and confront them about it.

The butterfly that reader is described as doesn't have a specific colour in the fic so that everyone can imagine it any colour they want it to be. I think that reader resembling a ballerina in case of landing in their universe would really fit actually, and yes, if reader ever landed in there, they would have features related to the butterfly form such as wings for example.

If confronted about it, I would say that reader would be as clueless as them, due to not knowing that Lucifer and Alastor were sentient in any way prior to that conversation. (Unless it would be some au of this one, where reader was some sort of a higher being who watched them in curiosity, but then reader would be from their world in the first place). The reason why they would go to the hotel at all would be because it's the only place they really know about, so it was the safest bet for them when looking at it.

That would lead to the two demons leaving that topic mostly alone since they can't get too many answers, only a few (Luci would still be somewhat thankful because he still got some answers, and that's better than nothing). Alastor would probably try to pry more for some time but would give up at one point after realizing that it was pointless.

fair warning this is gonna be long because the autism is peak RN and i am increasingly sleep deprived, ENJOY!!!

He is half indian half british

Was white passing and his face was covered in moles and birthmarks

Aroace alastor headcanons!

Alastor is ofc canonically ace and probably aro and i hc him as both, but aroace is a broad spectum and the following is how I hc him to experience it!

1. Feelings twoards touch

it is well known Alastor doesn't like others touching him- however I don't think he is completely touch adverse! He is constantly touching other people (petting Husk, leaning on vaggie), so I think he is okay with touch as long as he initiates it and is in control of how far it goes. I also hc him as autistic, and I think he especially likes petting furry demons for the soft texture! This sometimes gives them the wrong idea though which leads to...

2. Reaction to crushes

I think Alastor purposefully gets people to have crushes on him because he both thrives on attention of any kind and he wants to use other people's feelings to control them. He wants people to obsess over him and want to please him as much as possible. However, as soon as they try to actually ask him out or make too bold a move, he immediately flies into pure aro panic. This can cause him to reject them extreamly harshly and possibly even attack them.

I think it is possible or at least a funny idea that this happened with Vox. I have seen a lot of great art that I love where Vox is asking Alastor romantically, but Alastor interprets it as a platonic business proposal. I think it would also be very funny if Vox was giving a platonic business proposal, and Alastor thought it was romantic and attacked Vox in a aromantic panic state, leading to a very confusing and upsetting day for Vox.

3. Sexual situations

I think Alastor is sex repulsed but kinky. His reaction to Angel Dust's dick sucking offer in the pilot sort of gives me sex repulsed, though he could also just be Shocked someone would talk to someone as powerful as him that way.

However, Alastor is also a sadist and I think he is horny about it. His reaction of 'thats a lot less hot' when told to get rid of the eggbois humanly tells me that he does think of hurting people as sexy. He also likes to be in control and have people pay attention to him in a way that makes me think he would really enjoy domming (his clothes stay ON!) but I don't think he has tried it very much since he probably mainly enjoys his sadism through Literally Murder. I do think he consentually throws nifty around though, since she likes pain and he likes causing it. He doesn't really see it as sexual though, more just using her as a stress ball, though it does excite him and is part of why he likes her. (Nifty however is extremely horny about it).

4. Relationships

Like stated earlier I think Alastor would reject any explicitly romantic relationship especially if suddenly proposed to him, but I think he does get very attached to specific individuals in a way where he kind of feels he owns them. He wants to be close to them and know about them and (unhealthily he is toxic) control their lives to an extent. He would probably enjoy doing kinky things with people he feels this way about and would want to cuddle and hang out and give them gifts. I think he might be a bit uncomfortable if he had a close bond in this way and the other person wanted to label it as dating, be he would probably accept it as a signifyer of how close the relationship is and kinda like it as a mark of that person belonging to him. However if the person changed their behaviour twoards him because of the dating label he would become confused and upset, since he would have thought they were just labeling what they were already doing, not trying to change the dynamic.

This is theoretical because I think he doesn't really open up to people emotionally and when he starts to like someone in this way he becomes more controling in a way that can become abusive (i think this is how he feels about Husk) and it usually makes the person hate him, not have a desire to date him or anything (though his attention on them may give them a confusing mix of positive and negative feelings).

I hope you like my ideas! Obviously I am happy to see differing headcanons but I tried to substantiate mine with show evidence! Though there isn't much to go off in the show so I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out differently :D

Hazbin Hotel 4 episode premiere review Part 2

I'm gonna preface this by saying that I am enjoying Hazbin in the same way I enjoy Helluva Boss. I've been following the series since the pilot's release, I've gotten more and more excited with every announcement leading up to it's offical release and I've already watched every episode several times.

HOWEVER, just like with Helluva Boss, there are a lot of issues with Hazbin that I feel are very fair criticisms worth talking about.

This isn't going to be another bad-faith rambling about how the show is shit, how everyone who likes it is stupid, and how Viv and her creative team deserved all of the harassment they've gotten for the past couple of years. Like I said I've been enjoying Hazbin and Helluva for what they are a lot, but just because I enjoy both shows doesn't mean I don't think there are many issues with it.

This post is going to be discussing Hazbin's issues ofc, but I'd really like to sit down and write up all of my issues with Helluva one day as well because any issues in Hazbin are almost always 10x worse in Helluva.

So now with that our of the way, here's my critique on Hazbin Hotel as someone who enjoys the show:

What I believe the main issue for Hazbin Hotel boils down to the same issue for Helluva Boss:

Pacing

The pacing in Hazbin is......not great. Don't get me wrong, its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the pacing in Helluva Boss, by like, a lot. But that doesn't mean its, well, good.

The Over-Reliance on the Pilot's Popularity.

So, there's no actual introduction to any character but Charlie and mayyyyyyyybe Vaggie. But the rest of the cast is just, there, and the audience is supposed to know who they are automatically. And even then, the introduction to the premise is almost non-existent in the first ep.

For those of us who have been following the series for years know who these characters are and what the plot of the series is, but for the causal viewer who's scrolling through Prime and stumbles upon Hazbin, there's no proper introduction to what's happening.

It's almost like its required to watch the pilot before watching the actual series in order to have any idea whats happening. And thats a problem because the pilot isn't an episode its a pilot. For like 99% shows, the audience never sees the pilot. Season 1 episode 1 has to start from square 1, reintroducing who's who and what's going on.

The first ep of Hazbin takes place one week after the pilot. Which means they all acknowledge the pilot happened, its not retconed or anything, but it's still not an episode.

The pilot takes the time to establish Charlie's base personality, her motives, how the rest of hell treats her, and the significance of Alastor's presence at the hotel. Charlie getting bullied by Katie Killjoy at the news station does more for establishing Charlie's character and her motives than anything in all 4 episodes of the official premiere. There isn't really anything to show how hell doesn't take Charlie seriously, either. (The closest thing we get is how Valentino talks about Charlie when she's not there) Yeah Adam bullies her in ep 1 but that heaven not hell. S1 ep 1 "Overture" just expects the audience to already know what's happening.

There is literally no reason why they couldn't have just remade the pilot into an actual episode with a few changes and the new voice cast (obv), and then pick up the next day instead of the next week.

Like is the whole terf war still happening? Cause it isn't acknowledged at all in the premiere. Maybe they could have added Alastor's mysterious 7 year "sabatical" into Vaggie's explanation of Alastor to Angel.

It would have been so easy to just remake the pilot into an episode since the pilot does such a good job of establishing whats going on. A well known example of a show doing just that is the Gravity Falls pilot. The pilot is obviously shorter and the supporting cast is missing, but the plot of the episode is still the same and it establishes the personalities for the 3 main characters. Anyway-

2. The Hotel Isn't Even the Central Focus

They introduced the conflict between Heaven and Hell waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too soon.

This is the exact same thing that happened with Helluva Boss. The pilot displayed a clear premise for the series and then when the series officially airs it turns out the premise isn't even the central focus.

It isnt as offensive in Hazbin because at least Hazbin's central focus is on something still somewhat relevant to the plot which is "helping sinners". In Helluva Boss the central focus is "Owo angsty gay relationship drama", which is completely irrelevant to the initial "imps in hell are hits for hire up on earth and shenanigans ensue" premise.

Why are we being introduced to heaven's schemes to do more than one extermination a year before Charlie even gets a chance to prove there are some sinners interested in being redeemed? It would have been a MILLION times more impactful if Charlie got maybe two or three sinners actually looking to be redeemed to stay at the hotel, who were hopeful that they still had a chance to live a better life, only for all of Charlie's hopes to be crushed by Adam's rejection.

If Charlie had people who believed in her, if she saw how much faith they had in her to help them change their lives around, only for her to come back from her meeting not only saying the angels rejected her but that the next extermination was sooner than anticipated, OUGH would it have hurt.

Instead, the hotel is treated like a background or just a thing to do in the meantime while the characters focus on the Heaven vs. Hell conflict or other stuff.

The show just immediately jumps into the whole Heaven vs. Hell thing without really even focusing on the hotel and what Charlie is trying to do, AKA the title of the fucking show. Why even bother calling the series Hazbin Hotel if you aren't going to even focus on why the hotel exists in the first place????

We as the audience need to spend time at the hotel with the characters in order for us to get attached to Charlie's cause before you dash all our hopes away. Then we can root for Charlie as she overcomes Heaven's hypocrisy with the help of her friends. (which kind of goes back to the over reliance on the pilot)

And the cherry on top would have been that this is the perfect set up for some fun ""filler"" character establishing episodes while Charlie works with the sinners.

There's a reason why most people seem to recognize ep 4 "Masquerade" as the best episode out of the 4 despite also being the most graphic, followed by ep 2 "Radio Killed the Video Star". Both ep 2 and ep 4 are more one off self contained stories you would usually see in a more episodic series, and they're wonderfully entertaining because they're still being treated like introductions. Ep 2 takes the time to properly introduce the Vs and their connections to the main cast, particularly Vox and Alastor's rivalry. Ep 4 introduced Angel's situation with Valentino to the audience, which is a major part of his character, and Angel is part of the main cast so this isn't out of place. The conflicts between the Vs and the main cast aren't resolved by the end of either of these episodes, but thats because they're still only introductions.

The problem with ep 1 and ep 3 is that we're charging ahead with the whole Heaven vs. Hell conflict with characters we still barely know.

The issues with ep 1 mainly tie back into point 1. with how there was no proper reintroduction to anything in the series, and the show immediately crushes Charlie's dreams before we are even properly introduced to them again. Adam being an asshole to Charlie and them moving up the next extermination date has no impact because we as the audience barely knows who these characters even are.

In episode 3, the hotel and the team building stuff is the B plot while Alastor and his meeting with the other Overlords is the A plot??? In the third episode of the series????

I was confused with why ep 3 featured a Velvette and Camilla duet and a Vaggie and Camilla duet because we barely know who Velvette and Camillia are. Why did Camilla get a whole ass power ballad about protecting her daughters from an exorcist if we barely know who Camilla is??? Why was she paired with Vaggie, a character we've already grown attached to for the past 2 episodes??? Vaggie had some nice character moments in ep 3 but it was overshadowed by Camilla's presence because we don't know nearly enough about Camilla for a parallel between her and Vaggie to feel appropriate.

Velvette had some fun banter with Vox in ep 2 but only for like a minute, why is she singing about being better than everyone else?? Vox and Valentino had way more screentime than Velvette so far, so why should we as the audience believe that she's the "backbone of the Vs" and thats why she's feels like she can be disrespectful to Camilla and Zestial? The show doesn't even directly acknowledge that Velvette is the newest and youngest of the overlords, thats information given to us from????Instragram??? Why is Velvette the "backbone of the Vs"?? I'm not saying they should have done a whole backstory episode before this scene, I'm saying there should have at least been a scene foreshadowing Velvette being the mastermind behind the Vs' power or something.

And both the issues with Camilla ad Velvette tie back into how they're talking about starting a fucking WAR with HEAVEN?????????? We barely know anything about the conflict between Heaven and Hell why would a war between the two being a real threat in the mind of the audience??? And what does any of this Overlord drama have to do with Charlie's mission to rehabilitate sinners??? They don't care about the new extermination date because of Charlie's mission they just don't want to fucking die.

Its way too soon to be talking about all this with characters we as the audience barely know. None of this had anything to do with the hotel or Charlie's goals.

So in conclusion to this section, the writers at Hazbin have done the same thing they did with Helluva, which is: They expect the audience to care about the characters and the plot without actually giving us a reason why. Because the pilot was so popular and was the only thing we had of Hazbin for 4 years, they decided that the pilot's popularity was good enough to take the place of actual character establishing work. They felt like since the pilot already generated a large fanbase, they didn't need to do any of the work to get the audience to care about the characters and the plot because they already do. So now the writers are charging ahead with all this fluff and drama, talking about things that are irrelevant to the premise without re-establishing anything because they felt like the pilot are did that for them. Long time fans are gonna eat this all up regardless because we've been waiting for more episodes for YEARS, but Hazbin is going to have a very hard time gaining any new audience on a mainstream platform like Prime Video because the show is incomplete. No casual viewer scrolling through Prime is going to want to click off of Prime, log onto YouTube and watch the 45 minute pilot in order to then understand Hazbin Hotel the series. Causal viewers are going to watch the first episode thinking "Oh I've heard of this lets see what the hype is all about" and then be super confused on whats happening and who all these characters are and quickly loose interest. No one wants to do homework in order to enjoy a show. At least with Helluva Boss the entire show is on YouTube and the official playlist with all the episodes includes the pilot so new viewers don't have to leave the platform. Hazbin already has a second season confirmed right out of the gate, and the fanbase is already large enough to keep the show going (hopefully), but honestly I fear Viv and her team are gonna have a really hard time getting their numbers to grow because of these choices. Lets see how all this plays out.

There's one more thing that I wanted to bring up because it is a glaring issue but people have been talking about it since the pilot so I'll keep it brief.

Character Designs and Color Palette

Yes, Viv's artstyle suffers from "Tumblr Sexyman Syndrome".

Every other character wears a suit and bowtie. Which makes sense for some of them, Charlie and Vox in specifically. Charlie is a princess so she dresses formally and Vox is a business man. (Although why does Vox wear a bowtie and not a regular necktie?)

Alastor, Sir Pentious, and Angel however? Why? I get how a suit and tie could fit into their respective aesthetics, but there are also different outfits from their respective time periods that could have made more sense and would have easily solved this issue.

By having every other character wear the same outfit, we loose the sense that all these characters are from different periods of time and places. Which is a shame because Hell is the PERFECT setting to have all these different time periods collide in a way that makes sense.

No one questions why a 1940s gangster from New York, an English inventor from 1830s London, a radio host from 1930s Louisiana, a housemaid from the 1950s, a Vegas gambler from idk when, etc... are all in the same location because they're all in Hell. They all died at different periods in time but they all ended up in the same place! It was such a missed opportunity to have fun with this hogpoge of different aesthetics and it sucks because it would have been so visually interesting and engaging!

It also doesn't help that almost everyone is wearing red. And not just red, but the same shade of red as the fucking SKY. Like look at this shit:

I'm genuinely shocked that this wasn't corrected while redesigning the main cast. Viv went to the School of Visual Arts (SVA), one of the top schools for animation on the East Coast. I refuse to believe she didn't learn how bad this in school.

This is one of the only areas in which Helluva Boss is actually better than Hazbin. The imps all have the same color palette, red white and black, but because they regularly travel to other rings of Hell, earth, and interact with other beings in Hell like, sinners, succubi, hellhounds, the Sins, etc.... they stand out. The imps don't blend into the background (as often) like the Hazbin cast does.

But because the Hazbin cast can't travel to the other rings of Hell according to the lore (which I don't mind), then it was up to Viv and the other designers on the team to find a creative solution to make the characters stand out against the bright red sky. Instead they made it infinitely worse than the pilot by putting everyone in red.

At least in the pilot, Charlie wore pink and black, Vaggie wore grey and white, Angel wore white, Nifty had a splash of yellow etc... But now literally 90% of the cast is in the same shade of bright red as Alastor and the SKY. Like we get it they're in Hell they don't need to wear red to convey that because the SKY is red and has a fucking PENTAGRAM IN IT. We know the hotel is in Hell it doesn't need to be red either

The best scenes in the show visually so far are when the characters aren't outside or in the hotel. For example:

Charlie in the Heaven clocktower, Angel dancing in Poison, Angel and Husk outside the bar (I know I just said when they aren't outside but that background has enough variety of color that it actually works very well)

I am honest to God baffled how this wasn't corrected. Its like, Character Design 101, how was Viv allowed to get away with this?

Those are my first impressions on Hazbin Hotel the official series. I know there are only 4 episodes out but the fact that the series started like this is genuinely concerning. Viv was given the opportunity of a lifetime, what started as a indie project was picked up by a well respected studio and distributed by Prime Video. She gained a massive fanbase right off the bat and had all the tools to make this series something special. People are tired of the oversaturation of remakes and reboots and sequels and prequels and spin offs and live actions and whatever that seeing a new show with a whole new concept and setting and characters is exciting! Not many big studios are willing to invest in bold new ideas anymore. People are starving for something new, but when the new stuff is, well, this, its pretty disappointing.

I'm going to continue watching Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss because despite the many glaring issues both shows have, I do still find them entertaining.

I don't mind all the swearing, (even when it does get annoying), I don't mind the sense of humor, I'm not too offended by the Tumblr Sexyman artstyle. I'm a musical theater lover, so I don't mind the musical numbers, especially with such a stacked talented cast. I can personally handle darker, more intense topics like Angel's abuse.

I was excited for the series to premiere, I'm excited for future episodes, and I honestly believe the reason why I still find these shows enjoyable is because I love doing breakdowns like this. I love analyzing the media I consume, I love understanding how and why shows fail, and bad shows have more to analyze than good shows do lmfao.

And don't get me wrong, there are things about the series that I really love as they are! But that's for a different post lol.

I know in the past I said I was prepared to not engage with the fandom at all because there was too much drama and the hatedom is honestly equally, if not more annoying than the fandom, but I couldn't resist doing a whole long ass post about the show, jaja. Starting a new list because I was tired of reblogging the last one every time Angel said OOO THIS.

Angel struggles with crying because of his family roots (agreed with poisonedxbeauty on this). I think that's pretty obvious, considering the way he holds Charlie and Niffty out when they're crying like, "Uh...what do I do with this." As someone who had an abusive grandfather in the mafia, I know how Italian families can be, especially ones with crime roots. Crying would lead to him getting abused by his dad and taunted by his brother. Molly was the only one that would comfort him when he cried, but since she isn't in Hell, he isn't going to let himself cry if he can help it.

He wasn't born in Italy as some people head canon. Definitely born and raised in Brooklyn. But again, raised with parents that both spoke Italian. So when he was in the house, or even out doing crime, they would speak their native tongue (it made it easier for people to not know what they were talking about).

Some of the cigarettes that Angel smokes are from a very special pack, given to him by Valentino. I'm saying this because in Addict, the smoke that comes out of the cigarette is clearly red, and it's arguably given to him by Val because it's when he sees Val in the mirror, he panics and throws it out, and it crumples into the shape of a heart (which is Val's signature icon ofc). He uses these so that he can get that amazing high even when not with Valentino, but is able to recognize that even when he is at the hotel, that is Val still having a hold of him, so he tries to not do it nearly as much.

I'm sure you've noticed if you thread with me, but Angel's lower eyes open a lot more than they do in the show. However if Angel is REALLY fuming, his eyes can glow red, like he is becoming more demonic and violent. Taking this from Addict, when him and Cherri both have glowing eyes on the "just concede and give in to your inner demons again."

He has definitely taken Fat Nuggets on one of those professional Petsmart photoshoots. Look at the pictures in his room. Literally wall size posters of Fat Nuggets.

Angel has always been attracted to Alastor (depending on the thread/verse, that definitely dies down once he realizes how shitty Al is to Husk), but he absolutely fucking dies at hearing Alastor without his radio voice. This man screams in my brain every time we hear Alastor's normal voice. He thinks it's so fucking hot.

NSFW head canon: I already head canon that the tip of Angel's dick is in the shape of a heart. But after talking to e-m-p-error about it, definitely agree that his p*ssy would be the same. His heart on his chest (while it isn't boobs, we KNOW this), is clearly still an apparent errogenous zone. So I'm going to assume that his other feel good parts would also be heart-shaped.
