Alice in Zombieland alternate ending

Everything hurts. What happened? I can’t remember. I opened my eyes only to close them right after. It was bright and I was outside. I jolted up regretting it quickly after. It looked like I was on the roof of a building. I moved to the edge slowly, making sure no bones were broken while doing so.

Creeping over the edge made me jump back terrified; everything was run down either in shambles or barley standing, vegetation had taken over. Everything was rusted. Broken windows and broken roads. It was a city abandoned and forgotten, clearly many years ago. But the thing that was terrifying was the hundreds of thousands of bodies everywhere. They seem to be moving but in a limp disturbing way. Shuffling and groans were heard everywhere, I was surrounded by what looked like zombies. But that is impossible. Right? It didn't matter, I needed to figure out where I am.

I looked up at the sky covered with clouds casting a haze. Almost every cloud was shaped like a rabbit all around the sky, I then remembered what had happened. The unwanted truth.

Zombies were real and my family was dead.

“Ugh, my head.” A familiar voice grumbled. I whipped my head around only to see one of the people I hate most. Justin Silverstone.

“Why am I here? Where am I?” I spat moving as far away as I could get from him. He looked over the edge and dragged a hand over his face sighing.

“What does it look like? It’s a ghost town.” I must have looked confused because he explained further. “Zombies don’t just hide in forest or peoples basements Alice, they go to deserted areas like abandoned towns,” he gestured to the buildings around us. “This is their territory, there’s no blood lines, there's no place they can’t go here.”

“I know what it means,” my blood felt like it was boiling, “Why am I here? Last I remember your team kidnapped me and left me for dead.”

“You and me both, they clearly didn’t find us useful anymore and wanted to get rid of us. Seems like they couldn't finish the job and are letting zombies do it for them. Truce?” He held out his hand. I shook my head. It didn't matter if he wasn't with AI anymore, he once was, that means I can’t trust him no matter what.

“No, I don’t trust you and I won't make a truce. I’m getting out of here without you.” I opened the door to go into the building checking for signs of zombies. As far as I could tell the building was empty, Justin followed me inside.

“No offense or anything but aren't you super inexperienced with this whole thing?” he asked, shoving his hands in his pockets. “This seems unsafe to me, you don’t even have weapons and are about to go to where thousands of zombies are at.”

“I don’t see you doing anything different.” I grumbled.

“What else am I supposed to do? I gotta get out of here somehow. The only way we can survive this is if we work together, we’ll both be dead if you can’t stop yelling at me.”

“I will never work with you.” I spewed in his face and began to speed up, heading towards the stairs. A few minutes had passed and no one said anything, we had finally made it to the bottom part of the building before I stopped in my tracks.

The walls of the building were made of glass with zombies pressed against them trying to break through. They looked even worse up close. Their eyes had sunken into their head, chunks of their skin were missing and they had a pale unnatural tint in their skin. The air reeked of decay making me cover my nose. The door must be locked so they were unable to get into the building. I could hear the glass crackle from the weight of the zombies pressing against it. I turn to see Justin standing beside me letting the door to the stairs close.

“It’s worse than I thought,” he muttered under his breath. I spun around and reached for the door hoping it was unlocked. It won’t budge. I tried banging against it, hoping this time it would move…It didn’t

“It’s locked, why did you let the door close?” I yelled facing him, he put his hands up in the air.

“I didn’t know, okay? I’m sorry!” He shouted back defenseful. I heard the glass start to crack. I turned my head around and saw a zombie on the other side of the building hitting the glass with a rock.

“Great job genius, we're about to get eaten thanks to you!” I screamed. I wasn't sure what to do. I started panicking. There's no way out.

This is it, I'm going to die.

“Hey, I have a plan but I can’t do it by myself.” Justin sounded desperate, "Please.” I looked back to the glass wall, it was more cracked and just a few more hits and it would be gone. I wasn’t sure what to do. Hope for the best, or go with a plan that will probably fail? It’s worth a shot.

“Fine.”

The wall shattered and zombies began flooding in.

El libro con el que mejor me lo he pasado en lo que llevamos de año es "Grave Expectations" de Alice Bell. Un 'murder mystery' que logra ser a la vez clásico -un grupo de gente (una familia, unos 'extraños') aislados en una casa, unasesinato- y completamente inhabitual - hay fantasmas, queeridad y en cuanto al cadáver... no me hagáis hablar del cadáver- con una investigación chapucera debido a sus circunstancias, pero -quizá por ello- tan caótica como divertida. https://alicebellauthor.com/
