Hey, you
If your vague post is full of "now, granted" and "but" and "I guess" and other conceding points
Maybe just don't bother making the post??
Like, why waste the time when we're saying the same thing? Literally. The same thing.
What a fucking joke you are, with a raging hate for me that lives rent free in your head
I love it

Research Tips for Writing Your Book
Are you diving into the exciting world of writing and researching for your book project? Here's what you need to know to make your research journey a success:
Define Your Purpose: Before diving into research, have a clear understanding of your book's purpose and goals. Know the themes you want to explore and the message you wish to convey. This will give your research a focused direction.
Create a Research Plan: Outline the specific areas you need to research, set milestones, and establish deadlines. A well-structured research plan keeps you on track and helps you manage your time efficiently.
Use Multiple Sources: Diversify your sources. Books, academic papers, interviews, and digital resources each offer unique perspectives and insights. This diversity enriches your understanding and adds depth to your writing.
Organize Your Notes: Keep your research notes well-organized. Consider using digital tools like note-taking apps or physical notebooks with labeled sections for different topics. Efficient organization will save you time and effort later.
Fact-Check: Ensure the accuracy of your research. Verify any details that are crucial to your story or argument. Misinformation can erode your credibility and disrupt the reader's immersion.
Cite Sources Properly: Keep meticulous records of your sources and be diligent about citations. Use a recognized citation style (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago) to give credit to the authors and avoid plagiarism.
Interview Experts: Reach out to experts or people with firsthand knowledge relevant to your topic. Interviews can provide you with valuable insights, real-life experiences, and unique anecdotes to enhance your book.
Visit Relevant Places: If your book is set in a particular location, consider visiting it if possible. Experiencing the environment firsthand can help you capture its atmosphere, culture, and nuances more authentically.
Take Breaks: Research can be mentally taxing. Don't forget to take breaks to recharge and maintain a fresh perspective. Stepping away from your work can also lead to new insights and ideas.
Stay Open-Minded: Be open to unexpected discoveries during your research. Sometimes, the most profound insights come from unrelated sources or tangential information that you stumble upon while researching.
Keep a Journal: Maintain a research journal where you can jot down notes, ideas, and thoughts as they occur. This journal can serve as a valuable resource when you're writing your book.
Join Writing Communities: Connect with other writers in person or online. They can offer guidance, share their experiences, and provide emotional support when you face challenges during the research and writing process.
Revise and Refine: Don't think of research as a one-time activity. Continuously revisit and refine your research as your book evolves. New ideas or directions may emerge, and you may need to adjust your research accordingly.
Respect Copyright Laws: Understand the copyright laws applicable to your research. Ensure you have the rights to use specific materials, especially if you plan to incorporate them into your book. Obtaining permissions or licensing may be necessary.
Balance Research and Writing: While research is crucial, there comes a point where you must transition from research to writing. Avoid getting stuck in a perpetual research phase. Once you have enough information to start, begin writing and integrate research as needed in your work.
Remember that your research phase is an integral part of the creative process. It's where the foundation of your book is built, and it can be a fascinating journey in itself. But keep in mind, as you're writing your first draft, you can never know everything, never research everything. A second opinion is always good, and for that, you can ask friends, family, or even me on this blog.

When Ratio realizes he's fallen in love with Aventurine, he reacts in the most Dr. Veritas Ratio way he could:
By conducting "field work" and making a research paper trying to rationalize his feelings.
A Phenomenological Study of Romantic Attraction And Its Effects On Human Behavior: A Scientific Perspective on Love
Dr. Veritas Ratio (20XX)
Abstract:
Romantic love is a phenomena observed in all human societies and cultures. It has been a point of study for scholars in differents of studies; all of which have provided biological, psychological, sociological, evolutionary, and cultural perspectives on love. In this study, the researcher aims to gather and analyze existing theories and hypotheses on love to gain insight on the mechanisms, biological incentives, and influences that serve as a catalyst for the development of romantic attraction. Verification of literature will be done utilizing participant observation and participatory methods; data gleaned from the results of the experiment will be used to determine the positive and negative impacts of love on human behavior.
...
Scope and Delimination:
This study considers all perspectives, theories, and hypotheses of love including but not limited to Attachment Theory, Triangular Theory, Color Wheel Theory, Evolutionary Theory, Instrumentality Theory and Reward Theory of Attraction.
However,
The sample size of this study is one participant.
This plot came to me after taking a nap. I'm working on writing it but I have to do some legit research, because Dr. Veritas Ratio would not entertain mediocrity and incompetence, so neither will I. The RRL part is gonna be a pain... and the APA 7th edition citation...
This is going to be the geekiest ratiorine fic ever, my apologies in advance.

Which Tamrielic race is the most likely to invent pecel lele/pecak lele
Hi, apa kabar! Firstly, let me clarify what lele is to those among you who don't speak Indonesian (I'm guessing that's most of you). Lele (pronounced "lay lay") is the word for catfish. Southeast Asian catfish is quite different from those monsters you get in the US. They are quite skinny white fish, and the average person can eat at least two for a meal with rice.
Pecel lele is deep fried catfish served with fresh sambal, and looks like this:
Tumblr media
Naturally, I would say that this would be an Argonian dish, just based on the climate of Black Marsh, which would be on par with that area of Southeast Asia. Furthermore, it would be more likely that chilis grow better in Black Marsh and are therefore used more frequently in Argonian cooking. ~Tal
PS: Pecel lele is one of my favourite Indonesian dishes of all time and it's always the first thing I ask to eat whenever I'm back in that neck of the woods. Aduh laper lagi...tolong minta lele goreng dan soda gembira satu juga...tolonnnggggg

Hey! I just wanted to say how much I respect you for being so respectful about other players and their decisions to leave / stay! I've seen so many fans turn on Keira because she 'wanted to leave'. Imo you can't force someone to stay just because, however I am pleased she is staying for a little longer! I just hope she and her family are okay as I read it's for a 'delicate personal matter'.
She has served this club well, and all the players and staff seem to love her! We really couldn't have asked for more! I really liked that we had our APA & KW (WAPA?🤣) out today! I love them all so much and again, ideally start them all in important games!!
thank you! no, there are players that leave for all types of reasons and you can't paint them all with the same paintbrush! for me, keira has been nothing but the utmost professional during her time with barça and in a few short years has become an integral part of our club. so i am appreciative for all that she has done. but i also understand that she is not from barcelona nor la masia, so it's a different situation.
and i cannot wait to see this new midfield rhombus even more this season!

Just To Keep You Safe, Of Course!
Tumblr media
Part One: https://www.tumblr.com/roseyjean/762194711245144064/just-to-keep-you-safe-of-course-pt-2?source=share
Contains/Warnings: Yandere Ranpo, fluff, slightly ooc Ranpo (I tried my best), yandereism (duh), pet names (sweets, darling), obsession, mentions of past shitty boyfriends, internal rambling, thoughts of kidnapping
A/N: There's other parts to this and they will be coming out soon. I've had this written in my notebook for over a month now 😭 The parts highlighted in green are from Ranpo's POV, just to avoid confusion
I listened to the following while I copied this: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/593KzjbCHKPWEYH6fUGKRW?si=aASGwlDkSJ2iIjwStr3_SQ
Valentine's Day always sucked for you. It was a happy day for couples, but a sucky day for single people. And even when you had had a boyfriend on Valentine's Day, they'd never gotten you anything.
And so, when your apartment doorbell rang, you thought it was a mistake. You didn't have a boyfriend, and you didn't have any single friends who would be coming over to drink alcohol and eat chocolates that tasted like cardboard with you.
You paused the TV show you were watching- something about people in a world with no abilities- and got up, not bothering to look through the peephole as you opened the door. " Wrong apa- Ranpo?"
You stared at him, confused. You knew him somewhat- you worked at the ADA designing and making tools for the detectives to use on their missions. Ranpo would occasionally swing by when he didn't have an interesting case to work on to hang out, or when he was bringing a request. He'd watch or he'd ask you questions. You didn't know much about him, honestly, other then the fact that he liked candy and he was nice and the world's greatest detective.
"I was hoping you were home!" Ranpo said cheerfully, holding something behind his back. His cheeks were.. was he blushing? "Happy Valentine's Day, Y/N."
He pulled a bouquet of your favorite flowers out from behind his back and held it out to you. You just stared at him. He.. brought you flowers? He liked you? Like liked you? Now him popping into the shipping container that served as your shop so often made sense.
When you didn't speak or take the flowers, Ranpo's face fell. "Sorry. I thought that, um.. well, you've never mentioned a partner before, but I guess even I can be wrong-"
You suddenly snatched the bouquet from him, cheeks faintly pink. His blush deepened. "I was just, um, surprised is all. Nobody's ever brought me flowers before." You say, holding the bouquet.
"Oh, really?" He frowned slightly. "But didn't you-"
"Yeah. Um, you can come inside and sit down while I put these in some wayer." You say, turning to go to your kitchen. He walks inside and shuts the door.
Unbeknownst to you, he's been inside your apartment once before. A few months ago, when you first joined the ADA. He wanted to find out more about you- cute, shy, little, you. So he'd broken in at night.
He stood and watched you struggle to get a vase from a tall shelf. You were just so pretty and small and sweet. He loved everything about you, and he desperately wanted you to know that. He wanted- no, no, you needed him to keep you safe. You were smart and strong, yes, but not as smart and strong as he was. The world was dangerous, and you couldn't protect yourself as well as he could. But he needed to be careful not to scare you away. He needed to charm you into falling for him- but his ultra-deduction skills told him you already did like him that way.
"Would you like some help?" He asked.
You look over your shoulder at him. You'd been meaning to buy a small stepstool since your other one broke, but you kept forgetting. "Yes, please."
You move out of the way as he walks over and stretches up to get the glass for the flowers, and you take a moment to admire him. He doesn't open his eyes often- you wonder why- but the rare times you've seen his eyes, you felt your heart might beat out of your chest. His eyes are such a pretty bright green- anime green. You'd hate to admit it aloud, but you've thought about running your fingers through his fluffy brown hair. He's a killer mix of sexy and adorable, and you wonder why somebody like him brought flowers to somebody like you.
He hands you the vase, stirring you from your thoughts. You put the unwrap the flowers and some water and them in the vase before setting them on your counter.
"Thank you for the flowers, Ranpo. They're my favorite, and they're really pretty." You say.
He rests his elbow on the counter and smiles at you. "Of course. A girl as pretty and nice as you deserves flowers on Valentine's Day, after all~"
Your cheeks turn a little pinker and he gives you a dimpled grin. "You're so cute when you're blushing, you know that?" He asks teasingly, Leaning in closer. "Makes me wanna make ya blush even more~"
You blush even more and turn away from him, and he giggles. A part of him says he's being too forward- he might scare you away, and if he does he'll have no choice but to kidnap you and keep you with him until you fall for him properly to find another way to get you to date him- but judging from the fact you're not having any negative reactions to his flirting, that won't have to happen. Which is good- it'd be so much harder to get you to be his when he'll have to tie you up to stop you from escaping him and hide you from the police. And if you're dating, you won't see his extremely slightly possessive behavior as weird.
Because it's not! It's extremely valid! You're just too sweet and naive, you need somebody like him, who knows firsthand how bad some people can be, to protect you.
"Ranpo?"
He shakes himself from his thoughts. "Yes, Y/N?"
You peer at him, concerned. He was just standing there, staring at you with his eyes unfocused (and open), a small smile on his face, for several long moments. You'd been entranced by his eyes for awhile during that, though.
"Are you okay?"
He suddenly grins. "Of course I am! I've gotta go now, sweets, but I'll see you tomorrow."
The pet name sends butterflies tingling through your stomach, and you nod slightly, before stepping forward and pressing a kiss to his cheek. He freezes for a moment before wrapping his arms around you and hugging you tight. Even when you start to giggle and push at him, he can still feel the phantom touch of your lips on his cheek, and it sends his heart racing.
"Ranpo! You're squeeeezing me!" You say, protesting even as he hugs you tighter. He smells like assorted candies. It's a pleasant smell.
"Aww, I'm sorry, my darling Y/N~" He finally releases you and opens his eyes just a smidge. "Bye-Bye, sweets."
He walks away, opening your front door with a flourish and shutting it behind him. You're left standing there, blushing furiously.
He's glad you didn't ask how he knew where you lived. He's sure you'd be either terrified or angry if you learned he'd been following you home every night- just to keep you safe, of course!

Kalau lagi senang-senang aja dan everything went well, I tend not to write here (?) which in a way is good, I guess? Karena berarti ku lagi baik-baik aja, but also, jadinya archive journalingnya biased karena jadi akan ada lebih banyak cerita-cerita aku sad dibandingkan pas lagi hepinya.
Anywaysss
Iya sesuai judul post, ALHAMDULILLAH AKHIRNYA PUBLISHED JUGA YOROBUN!!! Sampe konseling akhirnya, ngerasa “kok saya bodoh banget YaAllah, kenapa sih aku gabisa nulis…”. Tapi sekarang sudah lewat masa-masa itu. Papernya bisa ditemukan di sini: https://doi.org/10.1029/2024GC011555
Itu manuscript kena 2x reject pulak. Kena mental sekali saya kan konseling lagi habis rejection yang ke-2 (mostly isi sesinya marah-marah aja sih sama reviewer2). Sampe akhirnya ku doain depan kabah tu si riviewr 2 supaya cepat tobat…. HHHHH.
Udah.
Apa lagi ya. Palingan cerita aja kali ya udah ngapain aja dari sejak keributan Hashim di tanggal 6 itu (the events told here mostly happened in weekend):
Sabtu dan Minggu kemarin Sabtunya main badminton di Iffley, dilanjut perpisahan melepas Hanif pulang ke Indo (nggak for good), terus ke closing art exhibition tentang Cowongan, tradisi Banyumas gitu untuk manggil hujan, bagus deh. Minggu-nya Idul Adha! Solat di OCIS Marston, dilanjut ada BBQ PPI Oxford untuk leavers. Se-weekend-an juga ngabisin nonton Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams (BAGUS BANGET!
Sabtunya pagi Oxford pride march, terus jalan-jalan dikit keliling Oxford kayanya. Minggunya nonton The Fall Guy si Ryan Gosling lucu banget. Udah. Kaya sederhana banget tapi sesungguhnya sangat senang dan fulflilling.
Udah gaksih… sebetulnya cuma lewat 2 minggu doang tapi berasa lama banget yah nggak nulis lagi. Apa karena progress writing juga bobrok aja… Entahlah.
OH IYA!

 “Hello Bad”

“Hello Missa, playing hide and seek again?  Come this was the last round”

In the Halo Sinfonía house you could always hear the children’s laughter, music at medium volume so as not to disturb the animals they had as pets, the steps of one of the parents through the kitchen and another in an office, another of the parents reading an old notebook that now looks battered with the cover torn, scratched and a little worn, but he holds it carefully like a very precious treasure.
His husband, always so cute, so adorable, so imaginative, laughs, that’s why she likes him so much, that’s why she chose him.
You can hear one of his children running up to his office and then peeking out is little Dapper, his favorite, he doesn’t deny it, he is after all a small copy of him, his hair, his eyes, his skin tone, even the same grimaces, however his Little nose is a small copy of her dad Missa’s, that makes her tender.
“Dad, apa Missa says it’s time to eat.”
“Oh, well, let’s go then we don’t want the food to get cold.”
When we approach the dining room I can see my three darlings setting the table, Major Chayanne. Why doesn’t his hair look like mine?  I hate his eyes, I see that as always he looks strong, serene, my little Llulah trying to put the jug of water in the center of the table, she reminds me so much of Missa, the same cloned soul, with her hair, her eyes. It would be my second favorite and of course my dear husband putting the casserole with a stew on the table to start serving, how tender he always trembles when I am in his presence, I have already told him that he does not have to cook like someone professional, I will eat everything that I prepared, he looks at me and smiles in that small way but that I like so much.
“Oh sorry I.. I’ll clean it up now” he says after he spills some of the food on the table grabbing a cloth to quickly clean it up.
“Don’t worry, I know you did it accidentally, anyway you could never barely serve something and you can cook without hurting yourself” with a smile I say it, he freezes a moment later he continues cleaning to sit down to eat, finally everything is peaceful as always in every day.  Until that news arrived.

DOI 10.1056/NEJMoa0804633 oft-cited 2008 study where sertraline + CBT works better than placebo + CBT for anxiety. Anecdotally, I'm anxious but not depressed, and it worked well for me - distress felt less immediate and I could think it through. I stopped because I didn't like my dreams, and if I forgot or lost access to the pills I'd get anxious AND depressed from withdrawal. Still, "better than placebo" doesn't equate to "proves chem imbalance".
i'd be very cautious about relying on any single study to make any scientific judgment; i'm especially wary about this in regards to psychiatric pharmaceuticals because so many of these turn out to be non-replicable. there are plenty of one-off SSRI studies for depression that show great results and then when you look at the balance of evidence and take into account methodological flaws and author conflicts of interest and p-hacking and misleading presentations of the data, the picture looks very different to what those single studies suggested. this study is also specifically on children, so make of that what you will. also this is the authors' conflict of interest disclosure paragraph:

Hello darling, I just finished Toying with You, and I’m dying to know bout this research you did. Could you provide a list of sources, cited APA style? (Or, you know, i really just want to know if you watched cams specifically to write this)
Ironically, I recently read a published MLM book with a cam boy as one of the main love interests, and the chat and interactions seemed very similar (though that was missing magic, booooo)
Snitch, whyyyy? 🙈🙈
I...have far too much knowledge of how cam sites work and their offered services at this point. And I admittedly watched soooo many cams specifically for the purpose of that fic, yes. I wanted it to be believable. Unsurprisingly, the chats were pretty much the same on every single one. Filled with cringe and pulled straight from what could be believed to be 13 year old boys' brains, at least what I remember of them, though that's been too long ago to mention here 😂
But you know, if anyone ever needs info, I've got it tightly locked up with all my yacht research that's serving me very well (it's not)
Also, you can't just say something about a book like that and not drop the title on me. Trade for trade? You give me the title, I'll give you websites :DDDD

The Ramirez Family
Poseidon : Sea Transport & Shipping CONTENT WARNING: DEATH OF SPOUSE (CANCER), DEATH OF SPOUSE (CAR ACCIDENT)
The Ramirez family, synonymous with sea transport and shipping, tells a tale of both triumph and tragedy. At its patriarchal forefront is the esteemed retired heir, First Ramirez (84), who steered the Ramirez Transport and Shipping conglomerate to unparalleled success. Bereaved by the untimely demise of his first wife to cancer at 63, he found companionship in his retired attorney First Carter (78), remaining unmarried but enjoying their later years of life with one another. The eldest son, First Ramirez (50), now heads the family empire as CEO. Tragedy struck for the Ramirez family once again when his wife passed in a car accident, leaving him to bury himself in his work while raising their three children - in focusing on his work, he has started to forge a shaky alliance with the Johnson-Fitzgerald CEO in an attempt to find a mutually beneficial means to expand both businesses.
His younger sister and the eldest daughter First Ramirez-Valencia (55) serves as the CFO of the family conglomerate. Her husband, First Valencia (54), complements her in both business and family life, raising four children together, each carving their paths in the world. The middle child, First Ramirez (52) is an esteemed painter finding solace and passion in art, owning a successful gallery - thanks to a sizable investment by First Jones (61). Alongside her wife, First Cassidy (52) they have three sons and a daughter and choose to stay out of the family business to pave their own path in the arts.
The second son, First Ramirez (47), defies stereotypical convention as a stay at home dad and homemaker to support his wife, First Santos-Ramirez (45) who is a professor at NYU - where their only daughter is now attending. Shadows loom over the family in the form of the First Ramirez (44), involved in the dark underbelly of the city as a drug dealer for the NYC elite and members of the various families that the Ramirez family interacts with. His choices stand as a stark contrast to the success and stability that characterize the Ramirez legacy, leaving the family entangled in a web of secrets and challenges.

Arayik Harutyunyan, who led the region before stepping down at the beginning of September, was arrested and was being brought to the Azerbaijani capital, the APA news agency said. Arkadi Gukasian, who served as the separatist president from 1997 until 2007, and Bako Sahakyan, who held the job from 2007 until 2020, also were arrested Tuesday along with the speaker of the separatist legislature, Davit Ishkhanyan, APA said. The wave of arrests come as Azerbaijani authorities move swiftly to establish their control over the region after a blitz offensive that triggered an exodus of over 100,000 people — more than 80% of its ethnic Armenian residents.

Dear children in the wider fandom,
Please take a breath. A really damn deep one.
Tumblr media
And quit waving your fresh degree around like it's worth more than the paper it's printed on. You got a degree in psych? Fab. A bachelor's? Très chic! But you're no authority in the field. You can't practice with it. Go to grad school and get another degree. Learn some more in this field before making such grand, catch-all pronouncements. Open your eyes to the world around you and the people in it. In some states you can't practice in the field until you've reached the doctoral level... so you've still got plenty of content to learn.
Did you know that psychology like all other scientific fields is an evolving one? And that being versed in a trauma-informed lens is one of the most important topics of our field right now? How are you going to serve and work with clients that have trauma histories if your current instinct is to call them assholes who are beyond help the minute you see a fictional representation of one who acts in a way you don't like? Psychology is not a field where you pick people apart with pop-psych buzzwords in order to determine who is good or bad, or who is salvageable and who isn't. It is a health profession. You help people. And if your first instinct is to weed out, to separate the 'wheat from the chaff' before you can bring yourself to extend a helping hand? You're not needed in this profession. You're not wanted.
Also, I would argue that hiding behind your "psych degree" to argue the merits of a fictional character just so you can jump on other people's pages to harangue them about their preference and fondness for this character is not doing the profession or the wider mental health field proud. You're an embarrassment to it really.
I don't see any budding anthropologists on here maligning other users because they refuse to admit that Temperance Brennan from Bones was an ill-suited character for the role she filled in the Jeffersonian or that she was an unfit mother, etc, etc, etc. [this being illustrated all in jest]
So do yourself a favor. If you wanna scream in all caps, go ahead. Write the longest ass diatribe this side of the Mississippi. But keep my profession out of it. You haven't earned it. And even if you had... that's a gross misuse of its purpose. You clearly haven't read the APA Ethics Code (2013).
And maybe... maybe you'd be less stressed if you stayed out of the tags you claim to hate so much? I dunno. 🤷‍♀️

Becoming…an ongoing process for all of us
My counselor sat across from me several weeks ago and his question hung in the air:
What emotions are you feeling as you head toward retirement?
It’s a very fair question and one I have asked myself many times.
I started teaching in 1994, after earning my Bachelor of Science degree at Tennessee Technological University the previous December. I had taken a semester off after getting married in my sophomore year of college and I had needed to complete a ton of remedial classes, due to my 6-year-stint in a church-school where I had fallen behind in Math, but had excelled at the other subjects.
Teachers in my school in the mid-nineties would speak fondly of the “good old days” of education and I, having been warned of these soul-sucking pessimists, would try to focus on the things I could change. Technology was in a great time of advancement and I was very interested in how technology could be used to help teachers work “smarter, not harder”. Technology in education would become my area of specialty, both informally and later, as my sole role in education.
Until 2021, I was very passionate about technology and went to many conferences, often where I was a presenter or panel member. I had even returned to podcasting as a tentative focus and was looking forward to my last few years of working as a digital learning specialist with complete optimism.
But, the Lord had other plans for me. I knew that He had called me into ministry, but I didn’t see a clear path into what He had in mind. I entered seminary, intending to earn a graduate-level certificate in pastoral care. My first class was “Diagnosing Mental Illness for Pastors”. (I remember joking reassuring my pastor at the time that it was FOR pastors, not OF!). The class went well and I found myself brushing up on APA format and looking forward to the next semester, but it just didn’t feel right to register for Spring 2022. I couldn’t articulate why, but my (then) husband didn’t question why. I just started making plans to attend the summer session.
In March, after a very serious and unexpected confrontation, he told me to leave and knowing that it was the right thing to do, I left, taking out a lease on a condo for one year.
The story of the next two years is completely a glorification of how God cares for His children and I have written about it elsewhere in this series.
I started this school term with 5 more years to go until I would have earned the 30 years of retirement credit with my state retirement board. It’s my 30th year in education, but I had cashed out those years when I moved to Georgia in the early 2000’s. Buying those years back had been an option and I had bought several when the separation had occurred followed by the eventual divorce.
I loved my job and my new work partner was fabulous. A follower of Christ as well, we’ve spent many hours discussing our faith and praying for one another. The day I closed on the house I’d started building the week before I met Domenick, she sent me a prayer via text. She’s been such a blessing.
For some months, I had been praying a big prayer: One I didn’t share with many people (though I did tell our discipleship pastor when we met over lunch last spring). I asked the Lord to provide the money to allow me to retire and serve Him full time. It was a complete prayer of faith, because it would mean He would need to provide a fairly large sum of money, but I recognized that He owns all things, and I found myself boldly asking Him for this opportunity.
On the way to a membership class at church, this prayer was answered and within 3 weeks or so, I had filed the necessary paperwork and sent in the financial obligation to retire in May.
Right on time.
Thanks and praise be to God!
My last day of work will be next Friday, May 31st.
My next entry will reveal where He’s called me to learn and serve.
How do I feel? Thankful. Humbled. In Awe.
He is a good Father.
He can be trusted.
Those who seek Him will find Him, just like He said!

Psychiatrists learned the wrong lesson from the gay rights movement.
Five decades ago, the world’s most powerful psychiatric association changed the course of LGBTQ civil rights history when it removed homosexuality from its influential bible of mental health disorders.
At annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association during the early 1970s, activists and internal reformers compelled the association to host panels and discussions on the merits of the relevant research, fostering a rigorous debate about whether homosexuality should still be considered a pathology. The science won in 1974 and set in motion a parade of legal victories for the gay rights movement, including the right for same-sex couples to wed.
APA members gather in New York on Saturday for this same crucial meeting. The summit should again serve as a watershed moment in the care of LGBTQ people. This time, the pressing question facing American psychiatrists is how best to treat children who are distressed about their gender. In response to emerging analyses of the available research, health officials in several European nations have sharply restricted the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in this population— in some countries to research settings only. But the APA still endorses the use of these drugs as a front-line intervention for minors.
In 1974, the science lined up neatly with the demands of gay rights activists. But today, the science of pediatric gender medicine is uncertain, so it doesn’t back the cause the of groups leading the contemporary LGBTQ civil rights movement in the United States.
GLAAD has gone so far as to insist that the science is settled regarding pediatric gender transition. It is not. In fact, the field of pediatric gender medicine is woefully compromised by a critical lack of quality research. Evidence-based-medicine experts insist that we simply do not know whether gender-transition treatment is safe and effective for minors.
Understandably, APA leaders — and other empathetic everyday people — are wary of repeating the mistakes of the past and are inclined to stand with LGBTQ advocates, particularly as conservative groups fight for all manner of restrictive laws that target kids who identify as transgender.
During the past decade, nations across the globe saw a surge in children and adolescents with gender-related distress, a population with a high rate of other psychiatric conditions, autism and self-harm. This phenomenon has occurred amid an overall crisis in youth mental health. It is not a betrayal of gender-distressed young people’s complex needs to demand the highest possible quality of evidence to determine whether prescribing them medications that could rob them of their fertility and sexual function are in their best interest. It is the APA’s responsibility, free from ideology or politics, to make such demands — which are, in fact, in service of these young people’s well-being.
The APA’s signaling on best practices for the care of such young people is of paramount importance. The offices of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals are often the entry point into gender-transition medicalization. And in U.S. gender clinics, a therapist typically must approve a minor’s referral to an endocrinologist for puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones.
The APA has been notably silent on a landmark report published last month that was commissioned by the British National Health Service. Called the Cass Review, it concluded that pediatric gender-transition treatment is based on “remarkably weak evidence.” The report is supported by seven independently conducted systematic literature reviews — the gold standard of scientific evidence. Their findings were in line with those of six previous such reviews, conducted by European and North American investigators and published since 2019.
The program for the 2024 APA annual meeting lists only one panel that touches on pediatric gender-transition treatment, titled “Channeling Your Passion and ‘Inner Outrage’ by Promoting Public Policy for Evidence-Based Transgender Care.”
The panel notably includes Jack Turban, a University of California at San Francisco child psychiatrist and a vocal supporter of broad access to gender-transition treatment. This week, he lashed out at the Cass Review on X and asserted that the associated literature reviews “scored some of the studies incorrectly.” Turban didn’t mention the reviews deemed a few of his own widely referenced papers to be low quality.
The APA’s meeting has a proud history of transforming open debate over LGBTQ-related research and care and should do the same for trans-identifying kids. This should include asking themselves whether LGBTQ activism that once enhanced the understanding of science about this population is now clouding it.
The 1972 APA meeting included a panel featuring a gay psychiatrist who wore a gruesome costume mask and wig that disguised his identity. He opened his mouth and regaled a rapt crowd with his searing story about the agony of working from within the closet.

At the 1973 APA meeting, one psychiatrist panelist proclaimed, “All my gay patients are sick!” to which another replied, “All my straight patients are sick!” This rejoinder pointed to a fatal flaw in the research that had supported considering homosexuality a mental illness: Those supposedly scientific papers were largely based on psychiatric patients, not the general gay public; therefore their conclusions were weak and inconclusive.
The APA board was finally convinced. At the end of that year, it voted that homosexuality was not a mental disorder. The organization’s full membership effectively ratified this decision when a majority voted down a referendum to overturn it on April 8, 1974.
In March, I asked APA President Petros Levounis, who like me is a gay man, if the organization was taking into consideration the recent review papers on pediatric gender medicine.
“We do look very closely to international research,” Levounis, a psychiatrist, told me. “But this is something that has to also come through U.S. channels before we finalize our opinion.”
Now is the time for rigorous and open scientific debate in the United States about this vital subject among the nation’s psychiatrists. The APA needs to remember the power of its annual meeting to foster such a transformative free exchange of ideas. It needs to trade silence for science.
