Merlin fanfictions I would love to write (but I won't because I'm too lazy) 2

I love fics where Arthur hides the fact he knows about Merlin's magic because he wants him to trust him but I would find it even better if Arthur genuinely thought Merlin knew he knows and just doesn't want to talk about it (maybe he saw Merlin use it while asleep and didn't realise Merlin was asleep ? Maybe Merlin told him while he was drunk ? Maybe he believed Merlin when he told everyone he had saved Gwen's father ?)

Morgana telling Arthur about how she always had magic but needed some time to realise it : Arthur could find out about Merlin's magic and think Merlin is like Morgana and doesn't realise he has magic (I just love the idea of Arthur awkwardly explaining to Merlin the fact that he has magic but that it is completely fine, trying not to spook him)

Arthur adopting a child with magic he was supposed to arrest and kill and raising them with Merlin's help

Arthur meeting and becoming with Kilgharrah as a child : Kilgharrah could tell Arthur about magic and the horrible things Uther did. Maybe Arthur could decide to learn healing magic and be less loyal to his father ?

Arthur: *choses his words carefully* No, it's because you're a good man

Merlin: I- *pauses, blinks, sighs* I'm not a good man, Arthur. I-I've done things

Arthur: *tenses, doesn't dare to interrupt because he knows merlin would clam up if he did*

Merlin: *tries to sound resolute* I had to do it.

Arthur: *with pity or compassion* Really?

Merlin: I had to protect you.

Arthur: It's not your job to protect me, Merlin

Merlin: *suddenly tears himself apart from arthur* But it is! *frantic* You're the Once and Future King! Or you will be! I have to protect you, I was born to protect you!

Arthur: *astonished by Merlin's frenzied, almost fanatic, voice. Whispers in dawning horror* What are you talking about?

semi-dark king merlin au, someone from ealdor tells king cenred about merlin and he is captured and held as a slave in essetir. since merlin despises captivity and servitude, he’d rather be dead and free than alive and in chains so he acts out and pisses people (especially the king) off so they’ll think him too much trouble and kill him. at first they stick to beatings until merlin manages to get his chains around a few necks and now has a body count so they kill him…..only he wakes back up a few hours later and king cenred is Intrigued and keeps him close. merlin keeps acting out but no matter how many times they kill him, he won’t stay dead. merlin has this moment after waking up perfectly fine after his twenty seventh death where he is hopeless and believes there to be no escape, not even thru death. a few other sorcerers in chains come and help him clean up and give him a lil peptalk, realizing him to be emrys, and then they revolt and take over the kingdom and crown merlin as king and now uther is like “wtf” bc his neighboring kingdom who was kinda sorta on his wavelength about sorcery, though uther did not approve of keeping them alive, is now a kingdom ruled by magic. he goes to war with them but with magic running free and fucking emrys on the throne, they don’t make a lot of headway. anyways merthur meet on the battlefield, enemies to lovers, you get it

I think Lancelot would be the only knight to immediately protect Merlin when his magic was revealed if he was around in s5. Gwaine and Merlin friendship seems strained he seems to hate magic and all the other knights also hunt magic users with no problem

Yepp, I wholeheartedly agree, Lancelot would either go all out, or he'd try to make them see reason...depends on which way it'd go(or which way it'd have gone, only if writers were brave enough, but damn! I can just imagine Arthur, his wife loves this man, his best friend told him his biggest secret, uh uhh, Lancelot bro, I'd run!)

But others, in Disir episode, Percival was making fun of all the hangings, and people write him as sympathetic, same goes for elyan...

So two people who'd support Merlin are Lancelot (if he didn't die) and Mordred, both would hesitate to draw their weapon, of that I have no doubt. But they'd support Merlin.

Finally getting around to reading recommended reading for Garth and I forgot how bad sidekicks could get the “treat them like Robin” in the 60’s and 70’s and the “make a female that is like totally into him who he doesn’t return affection for and the “everyone is horny, it’s the 90’s baby!,” cause he is getting hit with a lot of these. His personality changed based on the story being told and I really hate it.

Has anyone ever done an au where Arthur's story goes kinda like Jack Frost's from Rise of the Guardians?

Arthur dies in a lake and although his physical body can't survive it, the lake's magic turns him into an immortal water spirit. He's not able to be seen by many but of course, Merlin being magic incarnate doesn't miss his presence.

Cue Arthur being distant and wary but warming up fairly quickly to Merlin. Them both being excited and talking about all the things they can do with magic. Merlin creating a cult to make Arthur stronger. And other shenanigans

Okay so fic idea is, what if the people of Camelot had a hard time accepting magic after the ban is lifted?

Arthur couldn’t help the tick of his smile at Merlin’s clumsiness. He walked forward until he was at Merlin’s desk as he said, “Just checking in. Where are your students?”

Merlin, with the swift of his hands and his eyes glowing put the parchments that fell back on his desk. “Mordred is on patrol today, and my other two students can’t come until later in the day.”

Arthur nodded, not sure what to say. He looked at Merlin, who looked fidgety. He was about to ask why when Merlin started talking. “Look, I know this isn’t what you were expecting when you paid for all of this,” Merlin paused, pointing at all the books they had searched for together for the school. “But I swear I’m working on getting more students and-,” Arthur cut him off.

Merlin but Merlin loses it when Arthur dies and instinctively starts a time loop and every time Arthur dies it automatically resets...for angst purposes it could stay tragic..no matter what he does to change the past kilgharra was right. no one can change their destiny nor can they escape it. or by starting this time loop at all he's doing is preventing the rise of the once and future king so by staving off Arthur's death he's actually preventing anyone from ever really living again. a never ending story with one character aware of the narrative but powerless to change it. a puppet with a brain but no autonomy to put it to use. A tragedy of his own making instead the one prophesized

you know how aang took ozai’s firebending away?? what if merlin, emrys, magic incarnate, took morgana’s magic away? like he’s literally the embodiment of magic so can’t he take it back OR EVEN GRANT IT!!! idk bc i think it’d be neat. it would take her edge and power away so she’d be harmless and they’d be able to take her back to camelot to get some therapy before she gets it back

Arthur was taken from Camelot by Merlin at a very very young age. Young enough that it never fully registered with him that Uther was in fact his father (not helped at all by Uther's general disdain and cold treatment of him). So when Ector told everyone that Arthur was his ward and the son of people who'd been killed in a recent bandit raid he just...believed him as well. It never even clicked with him that such a thing didn't make sense, especially as he grew older and simply forgot about living in Camelot. An easy enough thing to happen due to his age being barely four at most.

So he fully viewed Ector as his foster father and Kay as his older brother and genuinely thought he was just a peasant boy being raised out of the lord's charity. And Merlin was...a comforting presence that had been there his entire life. Not anything worth questioning, in the eyes of a child.

And then the day came when his journeys with Caliburn landed him in Camelot and...all that came afterwards.

It was a nasty shock, but Arthur never blamed Ector or Merlin for his lack of knowledge on his parentage. If anything...he wished he could have continued to not know about his relation to Uther, with how wretched the man was.

merlin lore pissing me off because what the fuck does “sorcerers learn magic, warlocks are born with it” even mean what the fuck??? does that mean ANYONE in the merlin universe can use magic if they put their minds to it or do you still have to be born with some amount of magic and the difference comes from how easily it comes to you????

has anyone written a merlin au where arthur finds out balinor is merlin’s father, and that’s how he learns of merlin’s magic?

and i mean only arthur knows. merlin and balinor don’t have a clue.

like balinor starts to get through to arthur, telling him how he can still fix the mistakes that have been made. to do so he shares that he had to leave the love of his life in order to protect her and their son. he had to shield them from the dangers that the anti-magic propaganda had created for him. on the run from hunters who either felt entitled to use his power, or set him ablaze in cold blood.

he describes a town much like the one merlin brought him to once. the woman he speaks of falling in love with someone so similar to merlin’s mother that he sees it.

he notices how merlin and balinor laugh the same, ponder with furrowed brows the same, and how they prefer to eat with their hands instead of utensils.

he connects the dots with a flurry of nightmares. he realizes that merlin has magic in his blood and he’s terrified of what might happen if the truth gets out.

and when balinor dies, he yells in horror. not just because an innocent man was dead, but because it doomed merlin unfathomably. the one man he wouldn’t be able to hold back his own tears for.

and he couldn’t stand to break merlin’s heart with the news. so, when he eventually learns of merlin’s magic, he understands a little more what it takes to make someone lie for love.
