Maverick Hunter X should be Ported to HD Consoles, Port Begging for: Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
Port Begging for: Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
Publisher: Capcom
Developer: Capcom
Original Platform: PlayStation Portable
Port it to: PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2
When the PSP originally launched back in 2005, Capcom made some big bets on the platform by bringing over some quality titles, like Darkstalkers and Street Fighter Alpha 3, as well as remakes of the two Mega Man titles - Mega Man Powered Up, and Mega Man X.
Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X kept itself very close gameplay wise to the original game, but was remade entirely in 3D and widescreen, added a lot of dialog and awesome anime cutscenes, added a special mode where you can play as Vile.
Unfortunately the game didn’t sell that well, as was the case for a lot of PSP titles at the time, before Capcom’s Monster Hunter went crazy in Japan. But in the same world where we are getting Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network games like Bionic Commando Rearmed, Resident Evil 4 HD, Strider HD and 1942: Joint Strike, it seems bizarre that MM MHX never got a HD re-release.
The above screenshots were taken with PPSSPP at a high resolution with anti aliasing, and outside of some blurry effects and pixelated HUD, the game still looks really great and would work well on any console platforms out there. It may have done poorly on the PSP, but it would have done a lot better as a digital game across multiple platforms.
Make it happen, Capcom!

Well everything mostly came here for my Christmas gifts, from my sister, she gave me Master Detective Archives: Raincode, I had 100 dollars that I'm gonna save it on stuff I'm going to get when I get back home in Florida, a cousin gave me a 35 dollar Nintendo EShop Card that I used it to finally get Ys VIII & a sick Quake Inspired Shooter, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin & a Best Buy gift card that sadly didn't work with purchasing other gift cards but thankfully my aunt helped out for 20 dollar PS cards & a 30 dollar Steam card & the games I got on Steam are Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, Blades of Time, Magicka, Fallout New Vegas, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Alice: Madness Returns, X-Blades & Lost Planet Extreme Condition, so yeah pretty dope gifts I'm happy to get!

Xbox 360 XBLA titles without Xbox One /Series X Support, still available to buy!
Following our latest video on the Xbox 360 store shutdown, here is the full list of Xbox Live Arcade games still up to buy on the Xbox 360. If you haven't seen the video you can watch it below.
youtube
With the Xbox 360 store closing on the 29th of July, this list baring the odd error shows all the XBLA games in the United Kingdom Xbox 360 Marketplace Shop. That don't work on Xbox One or Series X and will be lost for good at the end of the month. Some have Xbox One releases, but many are Xbox 360 exclusive. Now the final price drop event on 360 is due to happen on the 16/17th of July.
It seems unlikely any DLC will get reduced so the expensive Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends DLC you will just have to pay through the nose for! If we get time we will try to cover on Demand Games and DLCs next week.
Note at present we are still notes games not all games with extra download content on XBLA are listed correctly yet same with Xbox One versions of some games. As we discussed in our previous videos using the website to buy content is next to impossible and we are buy content via the Xbox 360 in console store.
Warning as per our previous video about the problems we had with the Rabbids Invasions Season Pass. We advice users avoid season passes on the service most are broken.
Any mistakes or omissions please do let us know. Drop us an email, comment or send us a tweet. Also let us know about any Japanese, North America or other games not available in the UK on XBLA and still up and we will add them. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is kinda fucked up
So anyway, I finished playing Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 last night because I love modern, current video games that all the cool kids are into. And hoo jeez, is this game really a time capsule.
Tumblr media
Did They Even Talk To Anyone?
For a game centred around a bunch of disabled soldiers with bionic limbs, it is shockingly, stupidly ableist.
First, the plot is centred around the disappearance of Colonel Brubaker - a triple amputee who is a brilliant tactician but uses a floating hover chair to get around - orchestrating a staged mission in a Latin American-inspired dictatorship, so that he can wipe out his team and steal their bionic limbs for himself.
Of course, installing someone else’s bionic limbs on your body doesn’t just risk rejection, it literally, canonically “drives you crazy”. So naturally, this happens not just to the main villain... it also happens to another squadmate, who does the same out of desperation when his unit is all but wiped out. The final couple of bosses of the game both have you killing these characters who have been turned "crazy" by their bionic implants.
So not only do we have a pretty bad depiction of visible disabilities, we also have a super cool depiction of mental health as well, implying that using technology to better live with their disabilities is actually dangerous and risks insanity. Great.
Oh also, this game has by far the number of instances of the word "cripple" I've seen used in a long time. So there's that.
America, Fuck Yeah
So anyway, this vaguely Latin American country. It's led by a dictator named General Sabio, who is perhaps predictably heavily modelled after Fidel Castro. He's basically everything you'd expect - a tyrant, works his people to the bone for his own good, and has a military full of giant robots with extremely specific weaknesses that he rides around in.
Tumblr media
Alas, Not-Castro ends up being an unwitting pawn in Brubaker's plan, who lies to him about the purpose of the whole scheme, and when confronted with the information that he's been duped by the main character, rather than come to his senses, he doubles down and decides he'd rather go down fighting. Truly a great showing for the game's only non-white character.
Women, What Are They Good For
Surprisingly, this game isn't colossally sexist... it's only kinda sexist. The only female character in the entire game is Jayne "Mag" Magdalene. She spends the vast majority of her time off-camera, only showing up at the very end in an injured state, telling the player to go on without her.
Tumblr media
But! She's the only character in the game other than the player who survives the story. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is truly a champion of egalitarianism!
Granted, since this is a video game from 2011, she still gets to wear a skintight outfit with a low cut top, despite being in the military. So I guess a step forward, a step back?
Speaking of...
Sexual Assault is Funny Actually?
So yeah, this is a relatively small one, but let's get this one out of the way. The game's level select screen has a prison rape joke. No I could not make this up.
Tumblr media
In Conclusion
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is obviously a product of its time. It's not a great game, and it's not one anyone cares about. I only played it because I like mediocre video games and apparently enjoy self-abuse.
But it really is shocking playing this game in a modern context just how incredibly dated it all feels. A total lack of sensitivity and maturity in its approach to its themes, and despite being a game about disabled people, it's pretty apparent the developer didn't do much to consult with the disabled community to see if they could maybe improve their language and depictions of people. I don't exactly expect high art from a game called Bionic fucking Commando, but come on.
I know the game's developer, Fatshark, is still around. I would be really curious how the people who worked on Rearmed 2 feel about it today.

Oh hey, I just sound out that Simon Viklund, who was the composer for most of the Payday 2 soundtrack, also did the soundtrack for Bionic Commando: Rearmed, which I played long before Payday 2 and loved the soundtrack for. And now that I go back to listen to it, the similarities are unmistakable:

Bionic Commando: Rearmed - Blast Review
Developer: Capcom Rrp: £6.49 (Humblebundle and Steam)
This game is bad. Well I found it to be such. I understand that its trying to be like the old platformers of the past such as Shinobi and Battletoads, but that doesn't make it good. In fact those old games were designed to be frustrating, because when they were originally released they were in arcade cabinets and they wanted the players to keep putting coin after coin in. But this game is on PC, I already bought the game and there isn't anything more to get out of me monetarily (since this game has no microtransactions).
Tumblr media
I already know what some of you are thinking, the game was too hard and he never completed it. Well, you'd be partially right, the game is too hard for no reason, but I did complete it. That's why I'm so incensed by this game, I felt no real reward for all that challenge.
If all you want is a challenge then maybe pick this game up, but I'll be happy to see the back of it. Oh, it should be mentioned that there is a hacking mini game that doesn't work on 4K resolutions, if you want to actually do those you'll need to drop the resolution, I ended up playing the game in 1080p because of it. It's no big hardship as this games graphics really don't take any sort of hit from the drop in resolution but it's stupid that the game allows you to play in 4K only for a very vital part not to function.

Raichu Day
So for those who aren't aware, Raichu is one of, if not my favorite Pokemon of all time. Everyone had known Pikachu when the series was introduced to America, but when I saw a series of mini strategy guides that featured artwork of Ken Sugimori, I learned of its evolution, and comparing the art of the two, I liked Raichu more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naturally, over the years I had drawn the critter a number of times. In some instances, however, I decided to play with the name and present Raichu in different costumes. All with questionably punny names.
Tumblr media
This was one of the first: the Legendary Warrior Raigar. Based on the game series "Rygar" from Tecmo.
Tumblr media
And then there was Raiden, God of Thunder from Mortal Kombat. I learned later that the pronunciation was more like "Rayden" (and that very spelling was used for some home versions, maybe to differentiate from the Raiden shmup series?), but it was still an opportunity I didn't want to pass up.
Tumblr media
Nathan "Rai" Spencer, the Raionic Commando. The design is a mix of old and new, taking some cues from both the NES game and the Rearmed remake. On that note, music was made in FamiTracker to coincide with the concept: a mixing of two Bionic Commando series' songs, intended to sound like a Pokemon enounter.
After a few years I ended up making something else punny via a newly acquired Android tablet. It's less of a costume and more of a fusion:
Tumblr media
Raiolu.
Finally, this year I made a Raichu wear the outfit of one of my own characters. The character in question is known as Tetsuba Qailan; he's pretty cool, but I hadn't made much use of him for quite a while.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus he was in need of a few tweaks in design.
So I ended up with this:
Tumblr media
Tetsuba Rai-lan, complete with his own Chou Kagaku (known to some as the "Black Butcher"). Hmm, one of these days I need to finalize the design of his bike Gekizou too.
But yeah, I don't know how many other outfits I'll end up giving Raichu over the years to come, but it's always kinda fun to think some up, even if things can end up a bit of a stretch.
I think the little guy is worth it.

For a while now I've been auctioning off my video games, soundtracks, even an anime shirt or three. I'll be moving soon to include practically anything else in our basement, and that includes our PAX swag.
We attended PAX [Prime] for four years (2009-2012) before ultimately deciding that, for a variety of reasons, the experience was no longer working for us. However, during each of those years, we scoured the convention floor, played games and collected all manner of free (at least monetarily free) stuff. At the end of each PAX, our booty would be carefully boxed for storage. [Pictured above: the PAX 2010 collection]
Now the results can be yours. If you're into unusual and rare video game memorabilia, or just the time capsule of where popular domestic gaming was, this is for you. And there are indeed some interesting items. Fake moustache from Bionic Commando: Rearmed? Yup. One Ring on a Chain from Lord of the Rings Online? Check. Lenticular art card for Katamari Forever? Sure. There are also some ultra-rare items, such as the die-cast metal GM-authorized toy cars from the XBox Live Arcade game Scrap Metal, and the complete set of three Firefall miniature figures (but you will not get my shot glass!)
All of this should be coming to my eBay listings sometime over the next week or so. For those interested, good luck and happy bidding!

Ninja Gaiden on the NES and its sequels (or, if you prefer, the SNES trilogy repackage) are incredibly tight platformers. For my money, they remain the absolute highlight of the franchise. Put these alongside the Xbox/360 trilogy, and the NES titles still contain better stories, better characters, better music composition — hell, better everything except for graphics. (Sadly, both trilogies contain brutally unfair difficulty at times. Of all the things to carry over... )
But it’s the “stories” thing that I want to call attention to, because it’s impossible to overstate just how important the STORY of these games was. Ninja Gaiden on the NES introduced the world to the idea of CUT SCENES. They’re inescapable today, but back then? Seeing story-based scenes that sometimes interrupt gameplay or take place in-between levels, furthering the narrative... it was revolutionary. Yes, the storylines may seem pretty basic compared to what we get today, but keep in mind that this kind of storytelling in video games was mind-blowing to people in 1989. The notion of there being a plot outside of the instruction manual was like, WHOA. The idea of there being “plot twists”? In a VIDEO GAME? Unheard of.
Man, I hope someday Tecmo sees fit to remake the whole trilogy. Do it in modern 2.5D like the “Bionic Commando Rearmed” games, give the cut scenes full quality voice acting, and really let modern gamers immerse themselves in this world of ninja magic, revenge, demons, genetically engineered beasts, and CIA subterfuge.

Note
and all those instances of japanese hiring americans to make their games, weren't they all a failure anyway? especially the boom franchise.
Not always. Yes, Capcom hired GRIN to do the awful fully 3D Bionic Commando reboot, but we also got Bionic Commando ReArmed out of that (also by GRIN), which still rates as one of the best Xbox Live Arcade games ever released, I’d say, and an early example of “hey what if we HD-ized this classic game and actually made it EVEN BETTER?” actually working.
I mean, who knows, if the Mania team tried making an original 3D Sonic game, maybe it’d be a train wreck? Maybe it would be Edgelord Dreadlocks Bionic Commando all over again? Heck, maybe Sonic Mania 2 will be similarly poorly received like Bionic Commando Rearmed 2! We just don’t know!
Game development is not just magic. It’s not a coin toss, either. It’s a very difficult balancing act and any small thing can make it tip over and fall. The real issue is that the game industry has bred a hostile environment where even a single failure means you don’t get a second chance to pick up the pieces and try again.
Imagine a world where Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link was the last Zelda game we ever got. That’s the kind of game industry we’re in right now.
