What does our dear cousin think of the MC getting with each of the ROs?
Koda: "That isn't a man," Viktoria snorts out a laugh. "That is mountain. Are you certain his name isn't Everest?" Sharp green eyes turn to look at Koda, blonde hair spilling over her shoulder as she tilts her head. "You seem to be a good man, Everest. I like you."
Scarlett: Viktoria's eyebrows raise in amused shock. "You were able to romance her, little cousin?" Slowly, she raises one hand for a fist bump. "I'm impressed. Romancing a Voltaire isn't an easy feat. Especially not the Ice Queen."
Cyrus/Cyra: She whistles lowly. "You acquired a flaming bird. Could come in handy if you ever decide to visit during winter in Russia." Turning to you, she huffs out a chuckle. "Pa will be quite interested to learn of your new romance, little cousin."
Quinn: "A Grant," Viktoria hisses, eyes narrowed into slits. "I assume they're nothing like their family or else I'd assume you'd have nothing to do with them." She turns to look at you. "As long as they stay away from me, I'll be happy."
Caden: She shifts in place, looking at Caden with an unsettled expression. "If you're happy, I don't have any added thoughts on the matter." Viktoria moves back from Caden, her expression wrought with an emotion you couldn't decipher. "Do you have any hot sauce for my popcorn?"
Sloane: Viktoria simply observes Sloane with a rather bored expression, head tilted ever-so-slightly. "They're a very angry wolf, but as long as they treat you well I don't care." Green eyes appraise the shifter's outfit. "It's bonus that they dress so well."
Blake: "Your little half-demon?" She rubs the back of her neck, actual surprise etched on her face. "I can't believe that you both finally admitted to something so obvious." Viktoria offers you a gentle smile. "I'm proud of you, little cousin. Even if you are a dumbass for taking so long."
Reginald/Regina: "A human?" A slow smile curls her lips, light green eyes softening. "I'm glad that you've been able to find love with a mortal, little cousin. Even if they may not be with you forever, the love they leave behind surely will."

I know nothing of RWBY but every time you post/reblog a screenshot of the bees i smile because nine times out of ten there’s a plant with the bi colors in the background and i just go like “Oh, they are NOT kidding around with this one. Good for them.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blake in particular has been followed around by (heh) the bi flag for the entire show, to the point where I'm fairly certain there's at least one more instance but I just can't remember where exactly it shows up.
But no! They're not kidding and the Bees are canon and everything is right with the world.

Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail
by Ashley Herring Blake
Storygrah // Bookshop.org
For Astrid Parker, failure is unacceptable. Ever since she broke up with her fiancé a year ago, she’s been focused on her career—her friends might say she’s obsessed, but she’s just driven. When Pru Everwood asks her to be the designer for the Everwood Inn’s renovation that will be broadcasted on a popular home improvement show, Innside America, Astrid knows this is the answer to everything that is wrong with her life. It’ll be the perfect distraction from her failed love life, and her perpetually displeased mother might finally give her nod of approval. However, Astrid never planned on Jordan Everwood, Pru’s granddaughter and lead carpenter for the inn’s renovation, who despises every modern design decision Astrid makes. Jordan is determined to preserve the history of her family’s inn, particularly as the rest of her life is in shambles. When that determination turns into a little light sabotage, ruffling Astrid’s perfect little feathers, the showrunners ask them to play up the tension. But somewhere along the way, their dislike for each other turns into something quite different, and Astrid must decide what success truly means. Is she going to pursue the life that she’s expected to lead, or the one she wants?
lgbt++library summary:
This is the second book in the Bright Falls series, and Astrid's story is pitch perfect and truly heartwarming. For those of us who devoured Sarah Dessen and John Green romances as teens the Bright Falls series is the perfect grown-up version (with a hint of spice). The found family/best friend group of queer ladies give the story a wonderful depth and there were some twists and turns that we didn't see coming. Pick this book up if you are looking for a great sapphic romance (or start with Delilah Green Doesn't Care for the full experience!)

"my darling, you will never be unloved by me"
"But I–"
Blake bites her tongue, glancing away and down. A few days ago, Sun had commented—in that half-joking but painfully earnest way he had—that she acted like kind words were just IOUs she had to pay back by knocking herself back down, and she's trying not to do that anymore. She swallows hard.
"I know, Dad," she says. "It's just… taking a while to… really sink in." A tentative smile, which falters as her gaze flicks sideways again. He won't get mad. Not at you. "Adam used to say things—" Blake winces. "About you and Mom, abandoning the cause because you didn't care—and, and I knew it wasn't like that but I think, after a while, a- a part of me did start to believe it, and now…" Another wince, and a whisper: "I'm sorry."

The orders came in half an hour ago. Prep for jump. This was it.
The Dando was a mass of activity. Crew and techs hurried about, making last minute tweaks or securing ammo or supplies. The four mechs occupying the mech bay stood watch over the organized chaos, like giants watching the scurrying of ants. Only one seemed to be enjoying the show, the charcoal black bulk of a Marauder II with a painted on shark grin across its nose. Owen ducked into the cockpit of his mech. He sits down in the seat, reaching into his fatigues and pulling out a weathered pair of dog tags and pressing them against his lips.
“Once more into the breech, ma.”
He lets them fall back to his chest, the words “Sarah McEvedy” can be barely seen on them.
—-
Vance sat alone in the cockpit of his mech, praying. The conning drop would be a literal hell, to match the hell of his soul. He ran through the prayer for those who would be dropping, and those they would be dropping to.
“…please forgive those who would stand against us, for they know not what they do…”
“…and may Blake forgive me for what I have allowed to happen as I stood by and did nothing…”
“Amen.”
—-
Victoria rolled her shoulders again, for the fourth time, loosening up. Always limber up before a show, that’s what… Mary used to say.
Shaking her head, she stretches her arms again, especially her right, her ax arm. She didn’t know why but it helped her hit harder. And she planned to hit hard. For everyone she lost.
—-
Anya looked down at the twin bracelets she held in her hand. They were simple things, crude by any measure, made of cord and wire with small disks of metal on each. One with AC, the other with SC on it. She sighed, she had hoped to give Savannah hers before the drop but it doesn’t look like she’ll have the time.
She sighs again, sitting on the rim of the hatch to her Thunderbolt.
“…maybe when we get back.”
( @is-the-battlemech-cool-or-not incase you wanna say anything before the big drop.)

Please (Alex Blake x f!Reader)
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Alex hears something you didn't think she would, and decides to confront you
Words: 3k
Warnings: 18+, smut, praise kink, swearing, begging, dom!Alex
Alex Blake was the bane of your existence. Ever since she’d join the BAU you’d been doing your best to keep it inside, to not show her how much you despised her, to not snap at her. You weren’t always successful at that.
She was infuriating. Nothing but smart and capable and so stupidly organised it set your teeth on edge. The perfect agent. And often the one partnered up with you since you were the one missing your partner.
You missed Emily.
Sometime it was like a physical ache, the way the hole she left behind was there. Alex was trying to fit in to it. Forcing herself into the hole. Making everyone forget Emily. Trying to win you over when she was nothing but her replacement.
She would never be Emily.
None of which explained the way your dreams seemed to turn that anger into something else. Still passionate, still fiery, but instead of shouted words it was nothing but screaming her name. So often you woke up able to taste her on your tongue, gasping her name as she drew you closer to becoming undone. It made it hard to look at her those days.
And if sometimes your hand wandered when you were alone at night to the images your brain conjured up, then that was something between you and God.
But now, on a case out in California, you were discovering a new level of hell to Alex Blake. Sharing a room with her was going to kill you. Her side of the room looked as if no one was living there, neat and tidy, and so perfect it set your teeth on edge. In comparison your side was a mess of files and clothes and your bed unmade.
“You’re humming,” she said, into what you considered to be silence.
“Am not,” you replied, not bothering to look up from the file you were reading. Something about it was niggling the back of your brain.
“I can hear you,” she said.
“Then your ears are wrong,” she said.
“There is nothing wrong with my ears,” she said, “I happen to have excellent hearing.”
“Sure, whatever,” you said. You weren’t going to be goaded into the argument she seemed intent on having.
“Do you think I have hearing issues?” she asked.
“Look, can we not do this tonight? Please?” you requested, chancing a glance in her direction.
“Of course,” she replied. You sighed, looking back to the file, “although you started it.”
You weren’t aware of slamming the file close and turning to glare at her. There was that infuriating curl of the lips, just subtle enough for people to miss but it always made you feel as if she was laughing at you. Or taunting you. One or the other.
“For one night could you not be your insufferable self?” you demanded.
“Interesting choice of word there. Insufferable. Do I make you feel as if you’re suffering?” she asked.
“Pretentious fucker,” you grumbled, turning back to your file.
“If you have that much of a problem with me, why did you agree to share a room with me?” she asked.
“I don’t have a problem with you,” you replied.
“Clearly you do,” she said.
“Alright fine. Yes. I have a problem with you. I can’t stand you. I wish you had never joined our team,” you spat, “happy now?”
“If you hate me so much, why do you moan my name in the shower?” she responded.
“I- what?” Panic began to rise in your chest.
“I have excellent hearing, remember.” That frustrating smirk was back in place.
“I don’t moan your name in the shower,” you replied, “and if I did, it’s probably in anger.”
“’Oh god yes Alex just like that. Fuck. Please Alex’,” she quoted at you.
“I never said that,” you replied, but the words sounded horrifyingly familiar.
“You thought I wasn’t in the room last night when you had your shower,” she replied, “but I came back for a file. You weren’t being quiet.”
“No- I…” Your cheeks were on fire.
“It’s rather flattering.” You watched her legs swing off the bed, standing tall, hips practically swinging as she sauntered over to your bed. You scrabbled back, not wanting her to be anywhere near you.
“You’re delusional,” you spat out.
“It makes me think it’s not the first time you’ve done it, either,” she said, “what were you imagining me doing to you?”
“We’re not doing this,” you said, practically falling off the other side of the bed.
“I think we are,” she said, “you don’t get to be antagonistic towards me in public and then touch yourself to the thoughts of me fucking you in private.”
“So now you’re some kind of pervert?” you demanded.
“No, if I was some kind of pervert I would have come into the bathroom and watched you without you knowing,” she said, “instead I thought I’d do the adult thing and ask you about it.”
“And not the reasonable thing like ignoring it?” you asked.
“Not if I want to hear you moaning my name again,” she said.
“You- what?” Nothing about your evening was going the way you expected it to.
“Well, I rather liked the sound of it,” she said, “and I’ve been wondering exactly what you were imagining me doing to make that sound.”
“Are you asking to have sex with me?” you asked.
“If that’s what you were imagining,” she replied.
“We’re not doing this,” you said, shaking your head, “I hate you.”
“Your body language has always said otherwise,” she said.
“Fucking profilers,” you hissed, “I can’t do this.”
“I’ve thought about it.” That damned smirk again.
“What?”
“I’ve thought about exactly how I’d fuck you. Especially after you’d been so argumentative with me. How I’d bend you over a desk and make you beg. How I’d prove how much you want me. How I’d teach you a lesson.” You couldn’t even look at her, the words making your cheeks flame. “Would you like that?”
You hadn’t noticed her rounding the bed, looking at anything but her. With soft fingers, she guided your face towards her, eyes seeking you out.
“I bet you would.”
You grasped her face, pulling her in for a searing kiss. Her hands settled on your hips, pushing you back until you landed back on your bed, bouncing for a moment. She took a slow step, maintaining eye contact, not letting you look away as rejection curled in your chest. Another step, hands on your knees, pushing them apart as she lent down towards you.
“Oh no, sweet girl, you’re not running this show any more,” she whispered, “I am.”
She kissed you all tongue and teeth and you were reminded of every dream and fantasy you’d had of her. You moaned, reaching towards her. She caught your hands, pinning them down to the bed.
“You’ll keep those there or we stop right now and I won’t start again until you’re standing on my doorstep begging me to fuck you,” she said.
You wanted to fight against her, to touch her, to show her she wasn’t in charge but you could see in her eyes how serious she was. Part of you still wanted to move, just to throw it back in her face that she couldn’t control you, but that would be cutting your nose off to spite your face. You kept your hands in place when she drew hers back.
“Good girl,” she said and you hated the way it sent an instant throb between your legs.
She kissed you again, taking her time to explore your mouth. You whined and you felt the way she smiled, clearly enjoying having you already so needy underneath her. It was a fight to keep from touching her, wanting her to fuck you more than to test her.
With practiced hands, she pulled your shirt over your head, drawing back to look at you. You squirmed under the heat of her gaze. Her fingers trailed over the curve of your breast and you arched up, wanting more. Taking pity on you, she cupped your breast, palming it, making you need to take a shuddering breath.
“So pretty,” she murmured, “can’t wait to see all of you.”
You made a small keening noise in the back of your throat as her thumb found your nipple. She smiled, clearly proud of her accomplishment. Her hand disappeared and you pouted until you felt her unhooking your bra, flinging it aside. Feeling her touch on your bare skin was worth it.
Your head fell back as her lips wrapped around a hardened bud. Your fingers clutched at the sheets beneath you, wishing it was her hair. Heat was coursing through your veins, and her body kept you from being able to press your thighs together as you searched for more friction. She sucked, and you couldn’t stop the moan from falling from your lips.
You were a panting mess by the time she drew back, having given attention to both breasts, long enough to make you ready to beg for more. You pressed your lips together to keep from doing just that, still not wanting to give her the satisfaction.
“How’s that, sweet girl?” she asked, “you’re being so good for me. Don’t want to argue with me?”
“Fuck you, Blake,” you panted.
“Someone’s getting fucked tonight, but it won’t be me, sweetheart,” she replied, that infuriating half smile firmly in place.
“We gonna do that later?” you asked.
“I have so many plans for you,” she said, “but that relies on you continuing to be good, doesn’t it?”
You scoffed but her hand was back on your skin and it was making it hard to think. She was watching you, fingers pinching at your nipple, clearly pleased when a curse fell from your lips. You hated how good she was making you feel. You hated how much she was enjoying you being in this position. You hated how much you wanted her.
“Yes,” you finally hissed, if only to have her touching you more.
“Correct answer.”
Her fingers hooked around the waistband of your jeans, not bothering to undo the button or the zip. She pulled them down your legs, kneeling in front of you. She looked up, her tongue dragging along her bottom lip. Your breath caught from how hot you found the view.
Her lips kissed a hot trail up your thigh, grazing over your panty covered core and down the other thigh to your knee. She sat back on her heels.
“Fuck Blake, just fuck me already,” you ground out.
“Patience is a virtue,” she replied.
Her finger brushed across the top of your underwear, taking her time to watch you squirm. You had to bite back your desire to let your anger out again. She was teasing you, probably hoping you’d beg. You weren’t about to do that.
“I’m going to take my time with you, sweet girl,” she said, “really make sure the lesson has stuck.”
She dragged your underwear from your body, cool air hitting heat. Her fingertips were drawing patterns into the skin of your legs as her eyes took their time drinking you in.
“Lie back, sweetheart,” she murmured, “this might take a while.”
Her tongue dragged through your folds and you let yourself fall back against the mattress. A kitten lick to your bundle of nerves had you biting down on your lower lip, not wanting her to know how close you already were. How desperate you were for her touch.
“Taste so good,” she hummed against your cunt, the vibrations only making you buck up against her mouth.
She hooked her hands around your thighs, pulling them even further apart, really putting you on display for her. You couldn’t care, not when she was right there and refusing to give you what you wanted. What you needed, rather. It was a need burning you up from the inside out and she could soothe you. She could put out the fire under your skin.
Her tongue was back on you and your hips snapped up, seeking out more. With strong hands she pushed them back to the mattress and you knew you were wrecked. You didn’t care about fighting her any longer, just chasing your high now.
Your breathing grew shaky as her tongue took its time, exploring you, tasting you, but not giving you enough. You felt breathless, out of control, and your desperation to touch her was mounting. Perhaps she knew. Her hands reached up, tugging on yours until your fingers were threading through your hair, grounding you to her more than to the mattress. The sweet relief was temporary, her tongue back to driving you insane. Your fingers tightened.
Her lips wrapped around your clit, giving a gentle suck, and you moaned her name, long and low into the otherwise silent room. Her chuckle sent a shockwave through your body. You wanted to rut against her but you knew then she’d stop. Just the thought of it had you on the brink of tears. You’d be her good girl until you’d gotten what you wanted.
“Fuck,” fell from your parted lips, “Alex, more. I need more.”
“You know what to say to get what you want, sweet girl,” she replied.
You struggled, knowing what she wanted to hear. You didn’t want to give in. Her finger ghosted over your clit and you had to bite back a frustrated sob. She was looking up at you, watching the struggle pass over your face. Slow circles, never quite touching where you wanted her. You glared at her but she wasn’t giving in. If you held out she would. You were certain she wouldn’t be able to hold out on touching you, not when she was right there.
“Fuck, alright fine,” you ground out after a few minutes passed, feeling like an eternity, “please Alex. Please fuck me.”
“Good girl,” she hummed, eyes lighting up when she saw exactly the effect those words had on you.
You buried your face in the mattress, not able to face her after that. Her finger pushed into you, palm grazing against your clit. You whined, fingers tightening on her hair again. Her lips fluttered along your hip bone before you felt her sucking on the soft skin of your inner thigh. Her finger was slow as it thrust into you and you knew you were about to continue your shame.
“Fuck Alex, please, more. I need-“ You choked on your own desperation, “I need more. Please.”
She added a second finger, her lips leaving your skin before settling between your thighs again. Her tongue was on your clit, her fingers thrusting, faster now. You couldn’t get enough, wanting her everywhere, needing her in a way you weren’t used to. No one else had known exactly how to play your body this way.
Her fingers curled within it and it was like another world had been opened up to you. Your eyes were squeezed shut, your own hand coming up to paw at your breast. She knocked it away, taking over for you as she made your body sing.
“Oh god, yes,” you groaned, “faster, Alex. Please. Faster.”
It was as if you’d found the magic word to make her do what you asked for. She was sucking, her fingers thrusting now at a steady pace, curling and twisting until you were sure you were about to come undone. Your legs began to shake.
“Just like that. Yes. Fuck. Oh god. Alex,” you groaned, your body no longer your own.
She was in control, complete control, and all you wanted was for her to be kind to you and let you come undone. A third finger was added, stretching you deliciously. Her name was like a prayer on your lips and the word please kept slipping out.
A sharp suck had you exploding, stars exploding behind your eyelids. You weren’t sure but you thought you might have screamed her name, pressing her face to your core. She eased you through it, fingers slowing until it was nothing but her tongue cleaning you up.
She sat back, looking up at you, your slick coating her chin. She rose, her fingers trailing over your sweaty skin until she was crawling onto the bed beside you. You felt boneless, following when she pulled you towards her body. You could taste yourself on her tongue and a fire reignited within you. Pressed against her, you realised she was still completely dressed. You pouted, playing with one of the buttons on her shirt. She shifted you until you were both lying back on the bed proper.
“You were so good for me, sweetheart,” she murmured, “you did such a good job.”
“Yeah well,” you replied, voice hoarse, “had to be, didn’t I?”
“You had a choice,” she said, that half smile firmly back in place.
“Not much of a choice,” you muttered.
Her hand stroked through your hair, undoing the tangles she found. Your eyes slipped closed, finding it surprisingly soothing. She pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
“Now, are you still going to be a brat at work?” she asked.
“Probably,” you replied and her chuckle rumbled through her chest. With your ear pressed to her breast bone, you could feel it. It was a good feeling.
“I suppose the lesson hasn’t quite sunk in then,” she said.
You snorted but didn’t argue.
“All that means is we’ll have to try again,” she said and that had you pressing your legs together again, “tomorrow night.”
“Not now?” you asked, hating how hopeful you sounded.
“Oh no, sweet girl, you’re going to think about the lesson I’m trying to teach you and if you haven’t learned, tomorrow I’ll be working harder to make sure it sticks,” she said.
And she might have been the bane of your existence, but Alex Blake was also the person who ignited your fire. And if that meant you had to push all of her buttons tomorrow, then so be it. You were sure you’d enjoy the outcome.

January 2024 Reading Wrap
First wrap up of the new year! I read 8 books this month, and I'd say it was a strong reading month overall. I read some new releases, caught up or finished series, and read some good stuff! I read 6 fantasy books, 1 nonfiction, and 1 regular fiction. 6 books I read physical copies, and 2 audiobooks.
1.A Winter's Promise (Mirror Visitor Quartet 1) by Christelle Dabos. 3/5 stars. This is a book I've been wanting to read since before it was translated into English. This book didn't quite live up to the expectations I had of it, but I still overall enjoyed it. I plan to continue the series, possibly quarterly. Young adult fantasy.
2. A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft. 4.5/5 stars. Another great Allison Saft book, and this one is possibly my favorite so far. This is exactly my type of fantasy romance and I was very invested in reading this. It's about a young magical seamstress who is commissioned to make the royal wedding clothes for the kingdom's prince. Young adult fantasy.
3.Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard. 3/5 stars. This was a fun read, but not the most exciting or great as it had the potential to be. The story has a fun cast of characters, and enjoyable world, but not a whole lot happened in this book. I can def see Aveyard's LOTR inspirations in this. I plan on continuing this series soon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4.The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake. 2/5 stars. This was a disappointing end to a series and was very lackluster and fell apart at the end. Disappointing because of how much I loved book 2. There were some redeeming moments, but much of this book felt unnecessary or frustrating. Adult fantasy.
5.Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. 5/5 stars. This is a collection of essays by the author about the world around us, life, nature, and the way we interact with the world. Absolutely my new favorite thing and much of Kimmerer's teachings in the book resonate with me very deeply. Read on audio- which I highly recommend. Nature/essays.
6.Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands (Emily Wilde 2) by Heather Fawcett. 5/5 stars. This was just as good as book 1, and I loved the new adventure and learning more about fairies. Emily and Wendall are my favorite, and I can't wait to see how this series concludes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7.Beartown (Beartown 1) by Fredrik Backman 4.5/5 stars. I read this book in less than 24 hours and it emotionally abused me throughout. I'm late to the game in regards to this book (no pun intended) but I'm glad I finally read it. Backman never disappoints, and I plan to continue the series soon. Fiction.
8. Mislaid in Parts Half-Known (Wayward Children 9) by Seanan McGuire. 4/5 stars. This felt like the continuation of Antsy's story from book 8, but with some of our main cast of characters on a new quest. Very enjoyable and another solid installment in the series. Is the last time we see the "main cast?". Read on audio. Fantasy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's it for January! I am currently reading my TBR Pick of the Month, The Throne of the Five Winds, but I am only still in the first half of the book, so I will have to finish it up for Feb. I also started a new nonfiction audiobook, but am still in the first half of that as well.
February TBR:
finish The Throne of the Five Winds by SC Emmett
Crescent City 3
Nonfiction Audiobook (finish)
Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard
The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden
What Feasts at Night by T Kingfisher
TBR Pick of the month
Us Against You by Fredrik Backman (?)

OKAY NO I CANT TAKE THAT HURT. follow up (if you're up to! don't feel pressured to continue) if the mc survived the near death experience, waking up after a few days after this supposed.. uh.. war? Attack? how would the ros react? + how would the family react?
Follow up to this ask!
Tumblr media
Everything comes back into focus abruptly, a sharp intake of breath, as if your lungs, that hadn’t truly needed oxygen for decades, were suddenly pressed to feel something natural. A reminder that you were alive, however arbitrary that word may mean when it involves your situation, and alerting the individual that had been slumped next to your bedside to the development.
A familiar gaze, filled with nothing short of relief, settles across your form like a warm embrace after spending so long in the dark, surrounded by nothing but an icy chilliness.
Tumblr media
Koda: “You’re awake.” Large hands gently cradle your face, his soft expression speaking more than he could ever say. Shifting closer, Koda nuzzles his nose against yours, a sharp breath of relief leaving him at the feeling of your responding action, while a beaming grin stretched across his lips. “I knew you were going to be okay. I knew that everything would work out okay.” He gently trails his fingers down your cheek. “I’m not going to wait any longer to do what I’ve been wanting to do. W-Would you like to meet my family?” Whiskey brown eyes widen slightly, hope sparkling like gems within them. “I’ve wanted them to meet the man I’ve fallen in love with for a long time. I-I don’t want to wait any longer.”
Scarlett: She doesn’t move, doesn’t even shift a minuscule amount, reminiscent of a statue as emerald green eyes seemingly take you in. Soaking up everything that they could see. Within the next moment, as if she’s finally settled on something within her mind, she’s on the bed next to you, nestled into your side as she wraps her arms around you. Warm breath ghosts across your skin, Scarlett nuzzling against your neck, and a soft purr escapes, rumbling deep from her chest. Slender fingers, that had found their way underneath the thin hospital shirt, flex, as if she was truly checking you were there, and tug you closer. “You came back to me,” she whispers, placing an almost reverent kiss to the underside of your jaw. “You kept your promise.”
Cyrus/Cyra: Crimson eyes, that had clearly not seen a wink of sleep in a long time, are immediately flooded with gold, a sob erupting from their mouth as they instantly move to cradle your face. “You’re here,” they whisper, drawing as close as they’d possibly dare in your current position. Dipping their head to place a gentle kiss to your forehead, a relieved sigh being all they offered for the next moment. “Thank you. For being here, for loving me, for being everything I never knew that I needed.”
Quinn: Sapphire blue, that had darkened to such a stormy cobalt it was almost unrecognizable, shifts instantly the moment they notice you looking back, that they were given the opportunity to look into the eyes that they’ve fallen so in love with. Words fail them, they wouldn’t know how to properly explain the relief they suddenly feel, the way that their wolf was now howling in joy, and that they no longer felt the crushing weight bearing down onto their chest. “I missed you.” They finally settle on, taking your hand gently into their own. “Never do that again, okay?”
Caden: Seeing the shift in your aura, in the way that your soul no longer felt like it was crying out for a way to escape, allows their tears to fall down their face in jubilation— no longer wrought with the agony of knowing that they might lose you at any moment. In the face of your gaze, of the light that shone from your very being, they feel the hollow emptiness, the chilling grasp, abate from their heart, the dull atmosphere that the world had become suddenly awash with color. “You’re here,” they say, shifting closer to your bedside. “I’m not going to let anything hurt you again, okay? I’m going to protect you like you’ve always protected me. I promise.”
Sloane: A relieved sound escapes their mouth at the sight of you, somewhere between a strangled sob and a sharp gasp, before they get impossibly closer, pressing their forehead against your chest, relishing in the warmth that now slipped through. “You’re such an asshole,” they grunt, fingers digging into the blanket wrapped around you. “Never do that to me again.” Hazel eyes raise to meet your own, flashing gold in a clear warning. “You can’t ever do that me again. Understood? I don’t know if I’d be able to survive it a second time.”
Blake: “Sleeping Beauty has finally awoken,” they gently tease, caressing your cheek. Their attempt at levity, at the natural way they interacted with you, being completely dismantled by the shadows that hung underneath their eyes, at the red rimmed quality of shimmering violet, and the slightly pallid hue to normally tanned skin. Something they seem to take note of, and their false sense of nonchalance falls away, the weight of what had happened bearing down onto their shoulders. “We really need to work on safety precautions, angel.” They lean down and press a chaste kiss to your lips, humming at the familiar feel of you against them. “I don’t know what I would have done if I’d lost you.”
Reginald/Regina: “You’re okay.” Quickly standing, they immediately almost fall back onto their chair as their feet catch on something, but it’s not an event that stops their trek towards you. Instead, they happily settle on the edge of your bed, taking your hand into their own. “I knew that you would be. It wouldn’t have made any sense for me to outlive you after all.” A gentle smile quirks their lips, but it soon falls away, their grip tightening around yours. “I’m so glad won’t be the case. I’m so glad that I still have you. There’s still so much I want to do and see, and I don’t want to do any of that without you.”
Tumblr media
Helena: Your mother is by your side in an instant, her face uncharacteristically gentle as she cradles your face in her hands. “My little one,” she murmurs, bending down to press a kiss to your brow. “I’m so glad to see your eyes again. I don’t know what I would have done if I’d lost you.” Helena pauses, her expression darkening. “Well, I do, but I’d rather not cause a war if I don’t need to.”
Saraya: “Little light.” The gentle exclamation of the your childhood nickname is followed by a warm presence settling next to you. Your mama’s gentle expression filled with nothing but her love for you, warm hands running through the strands of your hair with all the care in the world. “You gave us all quite the scare—” Her smile falters at the reminder of what had happened, but her touch never falls away. “I love you, my little light, please never forget that.”
Cienna: Your eldest sister raises elegantly from the undoubtedly uncomfortable hospital chair, a picture perfect definition of grace, but the way electric blue eyes seem to sparkle with renewed life tells you the struggle that she had been subjected to in recent days. “I forgot how dramatic you can be, Beastie,” she teases, settling on the edge of your bed, taking your hand in a light grasp. “Almost dying will definitely take the cake for years to come.” Her hold tightens ever-so-slightly, obsidian black flashing within her gaze. “We’ll find out who did this, and I’ll personally ensure that they die screaming. I promise you, Beastie.”
Persephone: A relieved cry erupts from her lips at the sight of you, various kisses being placed across your face in her happiness. You vaguely note that the usual hospital blanket had been replaced by a quilt that Persephone had no doubt made just for you, its warmth, as well as the softness of it, a soothing balm against your aching body. “I was so worried, little one.” Persephone wrings her hands together, amber eyes filled with worry, before she begins to fuss over your blanket and pillows; wanting to ensure you were as comfortable as possible. “I’m so glad you’re okay. None of us would be the same without you.”
Christian: Auburn hair falls across his forehead, the normally boyish curls completely haphazard in their tousled state; his usually well put together appearance being cast to the wayside. “You’re awake,” Christian murmurs, gently taking your hands into his own shaking grip. Forest green, that’s slowly being eclipsed by obsidian, filled with nothing but adoration as he looks at you. He doesn’t say anything for a moment, as if he didn’t know what he could possibly say, but he eventually repeats the only thing that seemed important to him. “You’re awake.”

Do you think Chris has a Lisa or Mom tattoo? He has the SCS one, the Bardsley one and I do believe he has a Blake one as well. He has dodger tattooed on his pec so now I’m wondering if Lisa made the cut.

His literal first ever tattoo. His mom's astrological sign.

aro week 2024 reading challenge (with recommendations!)
i decided to only read books with arospec character during aro week, so i created a little challenge for it on storygraph! come join if you'd like <3
some recommendations (books that i have already read) under the cut! (this is by no means exhaustive, and there are a lot of books with characters that are both aro and ace bc i tend to read a lot of those. would love to hear your recommendations bc i do want to diversify what i read as well!)
main characters:
the priory of the orange tree & a day of fallen night (samantha shannon) - LOVE these books so much. both have a main pov character that is aroace. not explicitly labeled in the story bc it's fantasy but especially in adofn, it's really clear
vespertine (margaret rogerson) - ya, aroace mc, not explicitly stated on page but it's obvious imho
loveless (alice oseman) - is anybody surprised
tarnished are the stars (rosiee thor - all books have arospec characters) - ya, aroace MC, not one of my favorites but the rep is nice
common bonds - a short story collection with arospec characters everywhere (my favorites were "discography" & "a full deck")
the thread that binds (cedar mccloud) - this just the definition of cozy fantasy for me. multiple arospec characters (sorry i don't remember the actual identities and can't find info), qpr, found family, and so much more (there's also a prequel out now but i haven't read that one yet)
werecockroach (blake polenth) - idk what to say about this, cockroaches kidnap everyone except the mc and friends, aroace + agender mc
hazel's theory of evolution (lisa jenn bigelow) - middle grade, aroace mc but it's not the focus, really heartwarming "wish i had this when i was a kid" vibes
two dark moons & three seeking stars (avi silver) - ya, i LOVE these books, aroallo mc & found family but with lizards
baker thief (claudie arseneault - all books have arospec characters) - aroallo genderfluid mc, wasn't a big fan of the story but i really liked the characters
by your side (margherita scialla) - a queerplatonic short story, i'm not the biggest fan of short stories but it's about two people deciding to be in a qpr
convenience store woman (sayaka murata) - i'm not really sure if the mc is supposed to be aroace but that's how i read it. it's supposed to be funny but i thought it was depressing as fuck lol
elatsoe (darcie little badger) - ya, aroace native mc (it only explicitly says she's ace tho), this one was a lot of fun, it's basically a murder mystery in a really interesting world
goddess of the hunt (eileen shelby) - poetry collection about aroace artemis (we stan)
side and background characters:
summer of salt (katrina leno) - ya, very minor aroace character
sorcery of thorns & the mysteries of thorn manor (margaret rogerson) - ya, minor aro (aroace?) character (i have a special weakness for margaret rogerson bc i was at her book signing and told her i appreciated her writing aro/ace characters, and she wrote "aro/ace pride" in with my dedication lol)
aces wild (amanda dewitt) - ya, aroace sc, i LOVE him you don't understand. this is about a group of ace teens but gabe is my favorite, i would die for him. also i need amanda dewitt to write a million other books about these characters
hell followed with us (andrew joseph white) - ya, very minor aro character but this book is BRILLIANT, everybody should read it (after reading the trigger warnings)
wren martin ruins it all (amanda dewitt) - ya, mc is ace so that's the focus, but there's a side character who doesn't use labels and isn't interested in dating at all
a grim and sunken vow (ashley shutterworth) - ya, this is the third book in the series, demiromantic sc, absolutely loved his storyline (he appears in the first books as well but i hated him lmao)
and books i haven't read yet but am hoping to read during aro week (i'm therefore not 100% sure this information is correct):
city of strife (claudie arseneualt) - is supposed to have multiple arospec characters
every bird a prince (jenn reese) - middle grade, aroace mc
archivist wasp (nicole kornher-stace) - aroace mc, no romance
the black veins (ashia monet) - apparently no love interests!!! sounds like a dream
fallen thorns (harvey oliver baxter) - aroace mc
let me know if you have any recommendations! <3

23 Republican Senators & 124 Congressmen signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court asking for a 50 state ban on mifepristone, a drug safer than tylenol that is standard treatment for abortion & miscarriages, "due to safety concerns". The brief DARES to argue that banning the life saving drug would save women from 'reproductive control'. (x) These 147 people would rather have women die of sepsis than let women control their own bodies. If your representatives are on this list, call them and tell their office you will be voting against them in the next election because they asked SCOTUS to throw the US medical drug system into chaos at the cost of American lives.
