The brave new world of keyboard gaming
It's been something over 2 years since I got into video games. Most of the games I've played since, I've played with a controller.
My partner got me into games. We played a few highly frustrating hours of Octodad. I tried my hand at Magicka till we've reached the boss my partner couldn't fight alone and I wasn't of much help because I was still struggling to remember which button does what and where is it on the controller. Then some day he showed me The Stanley Parable and I have lost my mind, played it through a couple of times, revived my love for ontology, got the Ultra Deluxe on his Steam account, played through the Ultra Deluxe, showed it to all my friends and family, got a gaming PC, my own Steam and Humble Bundle account. And there I was. Still only using a controller.
Portal? Controller.
Portal 2? Controller, till I got to this one chamber where I was trying to get a pixel perfect jump for two days and then I switched to mouse and keyboard to spent another two day in the same chamber until I made the jump. And according to the internet there is no glitch there, it's just an asshole of a chamber.
Hades? 200+ hours and counting, controller only.
Fez? Controller.
Antichamber? Controller.
And so on until I watched my partner play Control. It is a beautiful game with an interesting story. And it's not too scary for me. (I quit playing Soma at the easy mode cuz the screen distortions freaked me out too much.) It also helps my easily frightened little soul to know how the games looks like from the beginning to the end, and if there are any jump scares. And Control we kind of played in coop: My partner was playing and I was watching and googling walkthroughs for the parts we couldn't figure out together. It was fun few days. And now I know what to expect.
I started playing it with a controller and it was miserable. So I switched to keyboard and kept pressing E instead of W and got frustrated pretty quickly. So I've decided to use the controller for walking and exploring, but then the fights were impossible to get through even with aim assist. Nothing can aim like a mouse. So I decided to use this game to learn how to play with keyboard and mouse only. Was it a good idea? No. I've reached the final boss and after losing to him for a few days, even with the aim assist on, I gave up. For now...
Disco Elysium helped me in getting the gist of making my character walk without using a game pad. The slow pacing helped, of course. (And oh, the trumpets...)
So we arrive in today's world. A friend told me about Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and how it could be great game we can all play together without leaving the comfort of one own home. Sounds great to me! I got the game, I got overwhelmed by the stats in character creation, I got over it, I did a trial run cooping with my partner only. It was fun!
Now I'm a Lvl 8 spore warden with a shroomy companion following me everywhere and hurting the enemies with its farts. I'm in. Brave new world of keyboard and mouse, here I come!

warm - bang chan
when his side of the bed is cold, you find yourself craving his warmth. so what better way to find it than from the man himself?
a/n: was listening to ariana’s album and warm made me think of chan… oh my sweet channie ㅠㅠ i love that little guy so bad
it was late, too late for the city to be alive. not a single sound could be heard, except for a few crickets chirping, a couple of stray barks here and there. overall, a quiet night.
you began tossing and turning in bed, only to find the spot next to you as cold as ice. where is he you wonder. you stand up, making your way down the stairs. you see a sliver of light peeking through the door of the guest room-turned-studio. the light enough to quell your previous worry. there he is you think to yourself.
before you walk to the studio, you make a pitstop in the kitchen. you make chan a nice, warm peppermint tea. just something to help him relax a little more, you thought to yourself. you know he’s been stressed preparing for future releases and with shows coming up, every second counts for him.
with the mug of tea in your hands, you carefully make your way towards the studio. the soft click clack of the keyboard becomes slightly louder. you peek through the door to be greeted with the curly mop of hair. chan is up working late again.
you always admired how dedicated he was to his work. chan never failed to amaze you. he loved what he did, he never felt like it was a burden. he loved making music and he loved performing on stage with his members. this was his passion.
however, there were some days he would get lost in his work. he’d give his all for his members. for him, they deserve the world. you know just how much he loves his kids, like they’re his own flesh and blood. it was times like these when all of you would band together to show chan just how much all of you appreciated him. you, as his partner. the kids, as his members. you loved your boyfriend and they loved their leader.
you find your knuckles lightly knocking at the door before you could think. “channie? it’s me.” you announce, waiting to see if he’d let you in.
“come in~” he answers as you open the door just enough to let yourself in. you were greeted with his cute dimples and the warmest smile. the most prettiest smile exists because i get to see it everyday is what you think to yourself.
“hi my love. whatcha up to?” you ask him as you slide onto the sofa just behind his studio chair. you set the tea down for him on the table as you slide it over to him. you make yourself comfy while waiting for his response. he turns himself around to see the tea on the table. his eyes widen a little as he rolls his way over to you. he grabs your hands while looking at you with his twinkling eyes.
“i’m just working on some demos that i need to turn in by the end of this week. and you? what brings my baby here to my lair?” chan questions you while lightly giggling. you looked so cute to him, all bundled up. your sleepiness so clearly catching up to you before you could run from it.
“just wanted to bring you some tea and i missed you in bed channie.” you mumble, not really able to keep your eyes open with how tired you are. you feel his rough fingers brush away your loose strands of hair. afterwards, his hand caresses your cheek.
through a blurry haze, you see his head tilt while he looks at you. he’s wearing his love goggles again. chan looked at you with an adoration that could light up a whole continent. your brightest star channie. oh how you loved him. this man meant everything to you. a chuckle from his end broke you out of your train of thought.
“thank you for the tea my love. let me drink this and finish up this last demo. then we’ll head to bed, how does that sound baby? hm?” chan suggests while actively caressing your cheek with his thumb. he gives you a lopsided smile, a dimple popping out from that side only. you place your hand over his much larger one to hold it.
“i’d like that channie.” you respond, with your head snuggled into his hand. you close your eyes once more to bask in the warmth that chan provides you. he leans forward to land a kiss on the top of your head. then he plants another one on your forehead, another on your nose, and lastly a soft kiss to your lips. he could kiss you for a lifetime and that would never be enough for him.
about 20 minutes later, you feel yourself being lifted from the couch. your first instinct is to wrap your arms around him while he carries you to bed. he holds you tighter, scared of dropping you. however, you know that he never would.
he lightly kicks open the door to your shared bedroom. he approaches the bed and lightly puts you down on your side, making sure to tuck you in. he climbs into his side of the bed and then he snakes his arms around you. his arms were your home. it was a reminder that wherever you two were, as long as chan wrapped his arms around you, you two were always home.
you hear him so close to you, his breaths while he’s getting comfortable. “thank you for loving me so well baby. im the luckiest man alive.” chan whispers into your ear while he wraps his arms around you tighter.
“loving you is so easy channie. i’ll love you forever.” you mumble back, but chan can pick it up so easily. he closes his eyes and leans his head against the back of yours.
“i love you y/n. for an eternity if you’ll let me.” chan declared. you were his everything. if you asked him for a star, he’d give you the galaxy. his most beautiful moments are spent loving you.
you nod, finally letting sleep interrupt the sweet moment you two shared. chan felt himself smile when he could tell you had fallen asleep. his safe place would always be with you. the love you two had for each other was the loudest thing happening in the quiet city.

jw eating out and fucking his gf while she’s playing a video game
your fingers click away at your keyboard as you play a video game with your friends, ignoring your boyfriends presence.
(#womeninmalefields)
jungwon sighs, looking over at the computer screen, laying his cheek against your shoulder.
it's not like you invited him, he invited himself. he's still upset even though you warned him you'll be playing a game.
he finds himself staring down at your legs, noticing how you're only wearing a hoodie and panties. easy access.
jungwon slides down under your table, accidentally bumping his head in the process and letting out a yelp but immediately focusing back on his target - your pussy.
you on the other hand, don't realise anything. your eyes are focused on the screen as you mutter into the microphone, telling your friends what to do.
you only realise when jungwon slides your panties to the side, greedily licking up a stride on your slit.
he groans at the taste, immediately sucking on your clit in need.
you bite back a moan, legs twitching as your boyfriend stimulates the bundle of nerves between your legs.
jungwon eats out your pussy as more slick gushes out, looking up at you to see your reaction.
you glance down at him for a second before focusing back on the screen.
he doesn't like that, so he decides to rub your clit with his thumb as his tongue enters your hole.
you quickly mute yourself, cursing and taking your headset off to enjoy the stimulation.
"fuck, you're so impatient." you sigh, closing your eyes and letting him lick away.
jungwon rolls his eyes, penetrating your cunt with two fingers so he can speak.
"it's not my fault you're being mean."
you ignore his annoyance and tug him back to your pussy, and he happily complies. slurping up your juices as he finger fucks you.
jungwon ends up fucking you on your gaming chair, harshly thrusting up into you to make you realise how his dick is better than any other activity in the world.
the game is long gone, your friends questioning where you went.

Ellie being needy as hell so you tie her up with a vib while you work on your computer 🤗🤗
omg yes. exactly. exactly!!!!
you’ve been working nonstop lately, trying to finish up a presentation before a fast-approaching deadline. you’re snappier than usual and ellie notices, but she’s nothing if not needy - and she likes to push it sometimes. likes to be a brat, for lack of a better term. so even when she knows you’re trying to focus, typing away at your keyboard like your life depends on it, she finds ways to vie for your attention.
she crawls into your lap, kisses your neck and suckles at the sensitive spot she knows will drive you mad. with every interruption, every stolen kiss and whispered plea (just let me touch you, i’ll make you feel so good), she can tell your patience is wearing thin. and when she strolls into the bedroom post-shower, dropping the towel wrapped around her frame to reveal her damp, naked body, the last of that patience absolutely disappears.
“was it worth it, baby?” you coo down at her a few moments later, when you’ve got her where you want her: cuffed to the bed frame, gagged with your now-soiled panties. “hm? was it worth being such a bad girl, ellie?”
her hair clings to her temples, damp from the shower and her own sweat. she nods, moaning from behind the mouthful of your panties, and you smile down at her as her eyes roll back from the sensation of the vibrator you’ve pressed to her clit. the vibrator you’ve taped to her thigh in just the right spot to keep it against her sensitive bundle of nerves - no hands necessary. thank god, because you need to get back to work.
you turn your back to your girlfriend, her naked body writhing on the mattress, and return to the desk at the corner of the room. the hum of the vibrator is a nice white noise; you find it actually keeps you focused. and oh, ellie’s moans - they’re music to your ears. the sounds she makes certainly have you pressing your thighs together at your desk, but you’ve got a presentation to complete. you don’t let her distract you - not when you can hear the muffled sound of her calling your name, not when her pleased moans turn into gasps and shrieks, then back into moans again. you’re not sure how many times she comes… just that, when you’ve finally finished your presentation and can return your attention to ellie, she’s a panting mess. and there’s a wet spot on the mattress. and she’s still begging for more.

hello! i LOVE your cold reader series so very much, would you be open to writing kind of the opposite? where instead of being like winter, reader is autumn incarnate? cozy and sweet with kind words for everyone, quiet and bookish but not in a standoffish way… thank you in advance! i just adore all of your writing 🫶✨

AUTUMN BREEZE — SPENCER REID!
your coworker’s would describe you like an autumn breeze, calm, cool, and comforting.
spencer reid x fem!reader | 1.0k | fluff | masterlist.
a/n — meet cold!reader’s… autumnal sister? idk i really love this premise it’s so cute
Tumblr media
You step into the bullpen, a bundle of warmth in knitwear and wide-leg slacks, a soft rustling that reminds you of leaves skittering across a pavement in autumn. It's a sound you've always loved—crisp, comforting, familiar.
You carry it with you, like the golden hues of October, brushing against everyone in the office without even trying.
There’s an energy here that contrasts sharply with your calm: the hurried clicks of keyboards, the rustle of files, the undercurrent of murmured conversations.
But you bring something softer, something like the warm light that filters through the trees on a crisp morning.
Your mug of tea—sweetened with a touch of honey, as always—rests in your hands. The scent drifts upward, a subtle comfort that follows the rhythm of your movements. When you pass Spencer’s desk, he looks up from a thick stack of case files. His face is pale from long hours, his tie slightly askew. You can’t help but smile.
“Hey, Spencer,” you call softly, your voice low and warm, the sound steeped in honeyed affection.
He startles slightly, his grip faltering on the stack of files. “Oh, hey,” he stammers, adjusting quickly. “Good morning,”
“Morning,” You back track a few steps and turn toward him, your hand instinctively resting on his elbow to steady him. The wool of his blazer is coarse beneath your fingertips, a stark contrast to the softness of your sweater. “Let me help?”
“Oh, uh, no—” Spencer starts to protest, but you’re already taking half the stack, leaving him blinking in surprise.
“What would you do without me, hm?” you tease gently, your smile widening as you step toward his desk, files tucked safely under your arm.
From behind, you hear Morgan’s voice break through the bullpen chatter, a teasing lilt in his tone. “Careful, Reid. She’s got you wrapped around her little finger,”
You roll your eyes but don’t miss the faint flush that creeps up Spencer’s neck. You’re used to Morgan’s ribbing, just as you’re used to Spencer’s shy reactions to it. “He’d probably drop these all over the floor if I weren’t here,” you say over your shoulder, earning a laugh from Emily and JJ.
Spencer’s face flushes deeper, but his lips twitch with the beginnings of a smile. “I, uh, probably would,” he admits, his voice quiet.
You take a moment to dump your half of the pile onto your desk before retreating back to him, and you take a moment to brush an imaginary speck of dust from his sleeve. He glances down at your hand, his expression unreadable, but you don’t notice.
Your touch is always gentle, always brief—a steadying hand on a shoulder, a playful nudge, the faintest of brushes against his wrist. It’s second nature to you, an extension of the warmth you try to bring into the world.
“Thanks,” he murmurs, his gaze lingering on you for just a moment too long.
“You’re welcome,” you say simply, your expression softer than any silk pillow Spencer could imagine laying upon. “Now, let me guess—this is all reading material for the case?”
Spencer nods, launching into an explanation about geographical profiling and its application to their latest unsub. You listen intently, leaning against the edge of his desk, your arms crossed loosely.
The bullpen noise fades to a dull hum in the background as his voice fills the space between you. It’s one of your favorite things about Spencer—how his passion lights up the room, even in the smallest ways.
The comfortable silence that follows his explanation feels important—the kind of stillness that carries the faintest echo of sound, a reminder of something fleeting and beautiful. You let it settle, neither of you rushing to fill the space.
“You’re always so calm,” Spencer says suddenly, his voice breaking the silence but not the tranquility. His gaze is thoughtful, as though he’s been turning the words over in his mind before saying them out loud. “Even when things are hectic,”
You tilt your head, studying him for a moment before replying. “I think it’s because I try to see the good in things. In people. It helps me feel grounded.”
Spencer’s lips curve into a small, genuine smile. “It suits you,”
Before you can respond, Morgan’s voice cuts through the moment again. “Reid, you planning to finish signing those reports or just whisper sweet nothings into her ear all day?”
The bullpen erupts in laughter, and Spencer immediately ducks his head, muttering something unintelligible. You laugh softly, a sound that seems to relax him just a little.
“Don’t worry, Spencer,” you say, your voice light but sincere. “I’ll defend your honour, promise,”
“Seriously?” Derek teases from across the room, leaning back in his chair. There’s a grin tugging at his lips, but it’s warm, harmless. “Do you ever stop radiating comfort?”
“Can’t help it,” you say with a shrug, meeting his teasing tone with an easy smile. “Someone’s gotta balance out all the brooding around here.” You glance meaningfully at Hotch’s office, and Derek chuckles.
Spencer’s lips twitch, but he hides his smile behind the stack of papers he’s pretending to read.

THERE'S NO SIGN OF LIFE | Spencer Reid x Prentiss!Reader [3]
Tumblr media
Description: The one where you grieve Emily together (+ the one where you kiss him)
word count: 7.9k
trigger warnings: okay so this chapter is exactly how it sounds, heavy in themes of grief, depression, anger, slight ideation of the world being better without bugsy (as if), DRUG USE (once and not addictively and not by Spencer!), mention of Spencer being horny, mention on blood and drinking.
authors note: this was just supposed to be a little filler chapter for the next one where the real juicy shit happens and long story short it became nearly 8k words of pure angst until the last minute when I decided to stop hurting you all. please don't hate me, promise a big boy chapter is coming up.
previous chpt | next chpt
'Doctor, look into my eyes.
I've been breathing air, but there's no sign of life.'
The team had fallen into chaos since Emily died. Hotch thought that just five little stages of grief weren’t quite enough to summarise what they were going through.
Morgan was pissed off by the smallest things, had flipped shit just that morning because the printer had jammed. He'd gone through two mugs and a keyboard in just two weeks in his tempers that had certainly seen better days.
Penelope’s eyes gleamed with unshed tears she was trying her hardest to choke down, to wipe away so fast she could pretend to still see her computer screen, but Hotch didn’t need to be a profiler to see the way her sleeves were smudged with mascara, sodden through 24/7.
Rossi seemed resigned, tired, his breath smelled faintly of the strong whiskey he saved for special occasions, his hair unkempt, as though he hadn’t slept until the early hours, or if he had it had been unrestful. He took more frequent breaks, came back smelling like the cigars he kept in his desk drawer for the bad days, and he sighed as if the world beat down on his back, like he’d been asked to choose between stopping world hunger or saving the environment. His chest was heavy. His face was tired of losing so many friends he loved.
Spencer was working himself to the bone, his desk piled with books (even more so than usual), his fingers twitching by his side more often, as if his brain cells had been dialled up to a thousand percent, which was saying something when it came to Reid. In fact the only thing out of ordinary was the fact he was constantly checking his phone, the sight of which had Pen dropping her coffee on the rough carpet, which she had promptly then excused herself with watery eyes over. Yes, he actually knew how to use technology, which he had been so vehemently against for years, until the team realised it was because one very important member of the team had been using her sick days for three weeks now.
They knew he was looking after her, that he would bring her dinner and make sure the cats were fed, but they had no idea she had all but moved in with him, Niko and Sergio included.
Yet he found himself checking the screen every twenty minutes or so for signs of an update, even just a thumbs up or a little sign that said seen under his good morning texts. He was scared he’d wandered too far into boyfriend territory, it certainly felt that way when he would come home to see her bundled on the couch, nose deep in one of the books he would leave out for her, how her eyes would light up just the tiniest amount to see him home. She rarely cooked, he knew she didn’t even touch the food in his fridge no matter how much he reminded her she needed to eat when he wasn’t there, to which she usually just nodded at him and buried her head in his arm to escape the scoldings.
Things were different with her here. He knew she was vulnerable, lost, he saw it every time she came crawling into his bed from where he’d set her up in the spare room, or when Sergio made himself home on her lap and she squeezed the cat to her chest in quiet tears. Usually he would have squirmed out of her grip, he had always preferred Emily, but these days he just let her sob with a docile blink at where Spencer watched her from the other end of the couch, and pretended not to notice when his fur was sodden and messed up.
Spencer had felt something for her before, the weeks, months even leading up to Emily dying, but with her here, needing him all the time, holding him tightly when he needed to grieve himself, making herself at home in his personal space, he was sure she knew it too. There was no way she didn’t know how he felt.
But the topic was too heavy, too complex to bring up with her mourning her sister, it would rip the carpet out from beneath her feet, and no matter how heavily, besottedly, how deeply Spencer felt he loved her, he would never do that to her. He couldn’t.
He had always loved mind games, but loving someone so much you couldn’t not tell them, only to not tell them because you loved them so much felt like a whole paradox even he couldn’t wrap his big brain around.
So they stayed where they were. She had good days, though they usually looked like said reading on the sofa with nothing but a strong cup of coffee in her stomach. And then she had bad ones. And the bad ones made him scared, so scared he had no choice but to get help.
Penelope came over the Friday evening with Spencer after work, kitted out entirely with nail polishes and gems, the box set of Barbie movies, a hot chocolate mix she swore by, three tubs of ice cream, face masks, Teen vogue with a Never have I ever section ‘Begging to be answered’ and of course, her Pièce de résistance, her makeup kit and joke fluffy handcuffs for them to tie down Reid and give him a makeover.
“Hello my handsome gentlemen,” She greeted Niko and Sergio who rushed to the door on instinct, knowing Spencer always gave them each a big handful of treats upon arriving home, “Auntie Penny is here for a super girly evening, no boys allowed,”
“Am I not invited?” Spencer asked, faux hurt flashing on his face as he shut the door behind them, though his eyes were quick to scan around his living room for any sign of her. There wasn’t, not even a single pillow was out of place, and he knew it had been another day of skipped lunch and breakfast.
“You are, of course you are, I just didn’t want them to get jealous,” She whispered, her brown eyes taking in the too perfect apartment and the lack of the Prentiss girl, “Is she sleeping?”
“No,” He said without checking, because he knew she rarely slept nowadays unless she was in his bed with him, “I’ll go get her,”
“Okay,” Some of the joy died out of her tone when she heard his voice soften sadly as she set her bags down on the kitchen counter, “I’ll get the hot chocolates ready!” Penelope tried to recover in that perky tone she used to cover up when something hurt her.
He just hoped this had been the right decision, that he wasn’t pushing her too hard.
Knocking softly on her door, he let himself in when he heard a small murmur on the other side, and as he suspected, she was curled into a small ball under one of his blankets, her hair wet, her pyjamas in the laundry basket. She had one of his shirts on and some boxers he had noticed had gone missing, but he would never hold it against her.
She had showered while he was gone at least, and her breath was minty fresh as he crept over the woolly rug and kneeled one leg on the bedside.
“Hey,” He started softly, sweeter than honey, his cadence somewhat hopeful as he leaned over her and stroked her hair that was still damp. “You got up! Did you eat anything?”
She looked up at him with tired eyes, but she reached out with both her arms to embrace him gently, like she’d been waiting all day to have him near again.
“I had a couple biscuits and some coffee,” Her voice was raspy, and it was the first he’d heard her speak in a few days. “I’ll try better tomorrow, I just was a bit tired today-”
“No, no, that’s great,” He rushed to comfort her, to stop the apology that was coming his way whenever she didn’t take care of herself the way he wanted her to, “Penny’s here to see you. She’s here for a girl’s night, if that’s okay?”
Bugsy attempted a smile, though she seemed hesitant, but he thought that was probably just the way her expression was these days, like everything hopeful had been sucked out of her.
“I’ve missed Penny,” She said, and he knew she meant it. She nodded finally, and he leaned over her to give her a proper hug for putting on a brave face, feeling her nuzzle into his chest at the contact. She sniffed the air for a second, before whispering into his ear, “Is that chocolate?”
He chuckled, stroking down her back and pulling her up into a sit. He’d gotten used to her being pliant under his touch, and he only wished her being so receptive to his advances would be under other circumstances.
The urge to grab her face and kiss every bit of hurt out of her was growing harder and harder to shove down with every day he saw her so soft and wounded. He wasn’t good at knowing what to say, but for her, he was trying to be. The only alternative was kissing her silly, until the pit she’d crawled into was warm, just warm all over, and she came back to him in one piece.
“Yes, it’s chocolate. Now come on, before she starts the movie without us,” He breathed gently, helping her out of bed, pretending he didn’t hear the way her joints cracked with the first sign of movement in hours. “Wait a second, pants,” He reminded her, tossing her some sweatpants from the floor, which she shoved on blindly. He didn’t mind her walking around like that if it meant she were comfortable, but he didn’t want her to give Pen a scare.
A ghost of a smile teased on her lips as he led her out the room with two hands on her shoulders, seeing the blonde woman light up like the fourth of July at the sound of the two of them approaching.
“Bug!” Penelope called, mid way through distributing a hefty amount of whipped cream and marshmallows on top of three mugs. Spencer watched the second her eyes widened slightly as she took in the girl’s appearance, trying frantically to cover it with an even wider smile, rushing to hug her tightly. He saw the minute she realised she felt so different in her arms; lifeless, heavy, rooted to the spot, like any contact with someone other than the gentle Spencer-touches she was used to made her lock up.
She looked sick, like she hadn’t known fresh air in weeks, or like she’d pulled three all nighters in a row, or like she would be able to watch a ten car pile up and not bat an eye. She looked dead. She felt dead in Penny’s arms.
The thought of it made her squeeze her tighter, until she felt two arms cuddle her back firmly.
“I see Spencer has been treating you well,” Pen said, because she was avoiding the subject of Emily, and the way Bugsy looked exhausted, and the way she saw how scared Spencer was when he’d come into ‘the bat cave’ that afternoon to ask for her help.
Bugsy attempted another smile, nodding slightly as the blonde drew back from their hug, and she saw the worry she tried so desperately to hide as she took in her face.
The girl’s skin was dull in a way they’d never seen her before, her expression tired, her bones creaky, like someone had reached down her gullet and plucked her soul right from out of her chest, snatched it there and then. Penelope saw why Spencer looked so worried.
“He’s been great,” Bugsy replied simply, her eyes finding Spencer’s where he shadowed behind her, worried she would faint on the spot from all the movement. She’d not been eating anything other than what he encouraged down her throat, but he supposed a handful of biscuits were better than nothing.
She felt the bottomless pit that used to be her heart rip open just that bit further, the way it had done slowly the past few days, eating away at her skin. She knew she could never ever repay Spencer for everything he was doing, knew the odd few times she’d managed to collect herself enough to be there for him when he cried could never amount to how he hovered over her every second he was home.
But where she should have felt guilt, there was nothing, there was just nothing left of her.
He seemed to notice the slip, the way he always did, and she never did tell him how perceptive he was as he stroked over the back of her hair, leading her with a warm hand on her upper back to the sofa where Pen had already laid out the movie selection, had already grabbed the hot chocolates that were quickly melting onto the coffee table, where Niko was waiting with an eager pink tongue to collect his share, where he settled her down and wrapped her in a blanket as if he was swaddling a baby, where he let her take the middle and him and Pen on either side as Fairytopia lit up his living room with hot pinks and rainbows and flowers and magic.
And even though she had yet to crack a smile, a real one at least, she seemed content, not entirely uncomfortable with the evening as Penelope commandeered one of her hands to paint her nails a shiny blush colour  ‘to match the evening’. Spencer thought for a minute she might have just needed some girl time, something no matter how many cuddles and sweet words he whispered could never give her. Maybe that was all she’d needed.
Maybe she would get through this without entirely crumbling.
It wasn’t until the next day when even showering was too big a feat for her, when she had only two mouthfuls of the blueberry pancakes he’d made her before she apologised with watery eyes that he realised how stupid he was for believing it.
It wasn’t until she said she wanted to move back home by herself that he really started panicking.
JJ took her out for a picnic in the park the following weekend. The guilt was eating her up alive about hiding Emily’s secret, and from what Pen had told her, she wasn’t doing good. She wasn’t even doing bad; she was barely hanging on by a thread. Hotch had said she would be a flight risk with her sister gone, had said they would need to keep an eye on her as much as they would the rest of the team, but for Emily’s safety she couldn’t tell her the truth. JJ could only stand back and watch as the girl they all knew crawled into something dark inside herself and barricaded the door closed.
Spencer had taken the nice approach with her, never forcing her to do anything she didn’t want to or asking too directly, as had Penelope. They’d both tried letting her open up by herself, which had only resulted in the girl taking about five steps back and even starting to shut out Reid, something which they all saw tore him up even more than seeing her wasting away in his spare room. He spent more days at hers, crying harder than she had seen him even when he was struggling with opioids. Crying for Emily some of the time, but mostly crying for the fact he was entirely helpless now she had moved out, like the one thing that had held him upright until then had left in a guilty mess of ‘sorry’s and dead eyes.
So she instead took the approach of telling Bugsy she needed help. Because if there was one thing that had always been able to bend her will, it was someone else needing her.
JJ thought about reminding Spencer that Bug would come back if he took the same route, if he just told her how badly he needed her instead of her feeling like she was simply a burden on his life. But she knew he wouldn’t hear it, he would only blame himself more.
So she’d told Bug she was struggling with looking after Henry alone while Will was working away, that he’d been asking for her since she’d come to his second birthday party with the biggest stuffed whale toy he’d ever seen. It was a white lie, Will was home more days than she was, but Henry had been asking for ‘the bug lady’ every time he played with his teddy. And it worked like a charm.
So they sat in the warm April breeze, Bugsy reading on her stomach as JJ carefully nudged a punnet of fat, red grapes her way, hoping she would take the hint and swallow a few.
It wasn’t until Henry came diving over to them from where he was collecting snails by their shells that Bug even showed any sign of pulling herself out of the book.
“Buggy!” The little boy called, his tongue struggling with the complexity of the ‘gsy’ sound, and she looked up at him with a tired smile on her face that JJ saw right through immediately. “Buggy, look,”
She held out her hand, and he gently placed a common land snail in the palm of her hand, no bigger than a quarter, who happily slid over her fingertip with a squishy sensation.
“Thankyou, Henry,” She replied, her eyes trailing over the shiny slime he left behind over her palm, his tiny antenna eyes googling up at her. “What should we call him?”
“Sid’d’snail,” Henry replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world, crouching next to her to watch him crawling over her chipped pink fingernails.
“Hi Sid,” She chimed, and JJ watched her face drop into a completely emotionless expression the second Henry’s back was turned to find Sid a friend.
She felt it clawing at her throat to come out, Emily’s alive, Emily’s alive, come back to us please, please come back to us because Emily’s still alive. JJ was watching her rot in front of her very eyes, and better yet she had the power to stop it with those very few words.
She could put an end to all of this, she knew how badly it had hurt when Ros died, her older sister, her whole world ripped from her the way Emily’s ‘death’ was doing to Bugsy. She would have given anything for someone to have turned to her and said ‘Jennifer, your sister is still alive. Jennifer, it was all a trick, a hoax, a ploy to keep you safe. Jennifer, Ros is still here, alive and breathing and living her best life in Paris of all places.’
But she couldn’t. She couldn’t betray Emily like that, and knowing, no matter how much of a relief it would come, would put Bugsy in more danger with Ian Doyle and whatever other enemies her sister had made at interpol than she could have ever realised.
So instead, JJ just ran a gentle hand over her hair that warmed in the sun, and started braiding parts of it absent-mindedly, like they were two girls in a playground waiting for hometime.
JJ stayed quiet, and watched Bugsy get worse.
Aaron came over to her apartment at 8am sharp. He’d found JJ and Penny in floods of tears in the women’s bathroom when they were due to start the presentation of the latest case and they were nowhere to be seen. Spencer had become detached, quieter with every day that he checked his phone and saw no reply, but had mentioned he’d seen them go into the bathroom together as he got his morning coffee, only for their boss to see the two of them clinging to one another with wet cheeks and before he could even ask, Penelope splurged that Bugsy hadn’t messaged in four days and was refusing to open the door, and that even Spencer asking so sweetly, something that was usually her kryptonite, had failed to draw her out.
Aaron was convinced if this didn’t work he was kicking down the door himself, even if it meant filing paperwork for a necessary home visit.
Aaron Hotchner, surprising to no one, was soft on the youngest Prentiss girl. He’d watched her grow for four years straight, had come to her of all people in his hour of desperate need, and felt every second of her grief as if it was his own because he, like JJ, knew he had the power to stop it all but couldn’t.
He called her name through the door first, her real name, loud yet anxious, along with a firm knock. When he heard nothing back, he rapped on the wood louder, “Bugsy, I know you’re in there. The team are worried about you, they’re worried you’re hurt,”
Nothing.
And it wasn’t just the team that was worried, it was him too, if his heavy fists banging even harder were anything to go off of.
“Bugsy, if you don’t answer I’m sending for the SWAT team and asking them to ram this door down,” He said, with not a trace of a lie in his tone. Because he wasn’t lying, not by a long shot.
He heard footsteps then, and she appeared through a small crack in the doorway, not open enough for him to see the mess in her living room, but enough to see the way her entire face looked like a cadaver.
He fought back against the guilt choking him from the inside out.
“Stop yelling,” She murmured, almost bitterly, “You’re scaring the cats,”
“You’re scaring us,” He countered back, in a tone that was a little too mean, but from what he heard, soft and gentle wasn’t working, “Please, just let us help you, stop pushing everyone away,”
“That’s a little pot calling the kettle black there, Hotch,” She said in an equally harsh tone, her face scrunching into a frown, and she nearly slammed the door on him right there and then.
“Get your work out clothes on, we’re going for a run,” He ordered, and it was only then she notices his sport shorts and trainers. She scoffed in his face. He was quick to shove a foot in the door before she actually could swing it shut on him, ignoring the way he nearly yelped as it trapped between the wood, “I’m not asking,”
“Fuck off,” She spat, and he bristled at her choice language, but he saw the way her eyes told him everything he needed to know. She was a roadkill on a sidewalk waiting to be put out of her misery; she didn’t want to be prodded and poked at and ordered around, she wanted out.
She wanted to go quietly, without a fight. And it was for that reason, he put up more of a struggle.
“You are coming outside with me, even if I have to drag you down the street myself because this is not how it ends for you.” Aaron barked back, forcing the door open with one of his large hands as if it was nothing.
“Of all people, I would have thought you would understand, Aaron,” It was like she had slapped him in the face, though he thinks maybe that would have hurt less, and it was only then he saw her eyes had welled up, and her bottom lip was quivering. It was a horrible sight, it twisted his guts like he’d been stabbed by Foyet all over again, but it was better than the nothingness that was there before.
“Ofcourse, I understand,” His voice softened, his hands coming up to gently rest on her shoulder like she was breakable china beneath his palm, “You think I don’t know what it’s like to want to hide away and never face a world without Haley ever again? I can’t, even now, imagine the rest of my life with her gone,” His throat clogged with emotion he fought off, because he refused to have both of them crying in her living room when he was meant to be the one pulling her out of it, “But I do it because Jack needs me-”
“No body needs me,” She said emptily, ignoring the way Sergio wrapped his tail around her leg and meowed loudly as if to tell her otherwise.
“Yes we do,” Hotch insisted, seriously, damn near ready to shake her on the spot to knock some sense into her, “We need you, and better yet we love you. You may have lost your sister, but you still have a family waiting for you, Bugsy,”
And that was it, the single crack that broke the dam. Before he knew it she had launched herself into his arms in a fit of tears, clinging to him tighter than he thought she could for someone who looked so weak and perished.
He just held her close, feeling his own stray tears drip down his nose as his shirt got wet through. In another life, maybe he and Haley would have had a daughter, and maybe she would have reminded him of Bugsy, maybe his heart would soften to putty just the same way it did with her. The same way it did for Jack.
And eventually, when she dried her face, and quietened Sergio down, she went to put on her gym gear and one of Spencer's hoodies she’d stolen and felt too guilty to give back, and they went for a run.
If there was one thing Rossi knew better than his whiskeys, it was how to cook a good carbonara. And if there was one thing Bugsy needed more than anything at the moment it was a buttload of carbs and cheese.
Aaron had been taking her running every morning since that day, and even she had to admit the fresh air and exercise did her good, made her feel stronger and less like the women they find in body bags at the beginning of a case, made her feel like maybe, just maybe, she could get through the rest of this.
It wasn’t going away overnight, not by any means, but she looked healthier, and her exhaustion meant she got more sleep too, but what remained was a hunger that she was filling with cereal and instant noodles that Rossi knew he had to put a stop to immediately. Instant noodles should have been outlawed with crack and underaged drinking, he would proudly tell her.
So he invited her over for a cooking lesson, or as he would put it, she could watch him cook and eat as much as she wanted at the end, if she promised to never buy those awful microwave ramen ever again. And she’d agreed, because she felt her appetite coming back every day (and she knew where he kept the good white wine).
“Now as entertaining as this is watching you drain my stash of Sémillon, why don’t you chop up that pork and I’ll get started on the sauce.” He handed her a sharpened butcher’s knife, and the thin slices of seasoned ham, turning to use the stove for just a few moments, “You’re gonna add the cream in until it becomes thick, like cough mixture running off your spoon,”
“Thick and creamy, you got it,” She chimed in, her fingers slicing the meat into strips, “Did you want this as diced or Julian?”
“Do you mean julienne?”
“That’s what I just said,” He chuckled into the pot, his chest warming to hear some of that old bratty teenaged sass returning to her tone. He bet she would have run rings around him if she was his kid.
“Diced, if you would,” David said, using a wooden spoon to stir in the thick cream little by little until the container ran empty.
“Yes, Chef,” She hummed in response, flipping the chopping board around to begin slicing them the other side, “So, I’m guessing if I asked to try some of that Sauvignon I saw in the fridge, your response would be- oh motherfucker-”
David frowned, Maybe not so harsh on the tongue but-” He turned around when he heard a hiss, and he quickly understood why she’d thrown the expletive out there.
Her hand ran red with thick blood, dripping quickly down her arm, ruining her shirt. He didnt even care that his hand carved indian wood chopping board was permanently stained, or that the meat was contaminated, or that the blood trickled a little too quick over his floor, only that her eyes seemed suddenly far away as she did nothing to stop the cut gaping. It had caught her in a trance, one she was not even aware she had been sucked into until he grabbed a towel and headed for her.
“Emily, no! Emily please, I need medical in here, we have an agent down! Emily, please, please don’t, please- Someone get medical, she’s bleeding-”
David’s hands grabbed a hold of her bloodied palm, wrapping it tightly in the cloth, so harshly it knocked her out of the daze she was in, dragged her out from the last time there was blood all over her hand, when it had been Emily’s blood, when she could do nothing but freeze like she had now.
“I’m fine,” She said on a reflex, even though he hadn’t asked, he had just acted, pulling her towards the cupboard where he kept the first aid kit, “David, I’m totally fine, it’s just a little scratch,”
“You have to let me go,” Emily had gasped. "Let me go, Bug,"
“David, I’m fine, stop worrying,” She said again when she saw him fussing, hoping he couldn't see the way she’d started shaking, and if he had, she wondered if she could play it off as the adrenaline rushing to fix the wound.
She knew she was on thin ice with the lot of them after her talk with Aaron. Like he said, they were her family, and family’s took care of one another. She couldn’t live with herself if she kept burdening them so much, kept them from grieving their partner just as much as she was; she loved them too.
Bugsy was trying to get better, she really was. Sometimes it was just a little difficult, like now when she could still see Emily’s butchered body infront of her as if she were little more than that joint of pork she’d been julienning.
“It’s okay to get hurt sometimes, kid. You don’t have to lie and pretend it doesn’t hurt if it does,” David said, sitting her back on the breakfast table, holding the bloodied cloth up where he was unravelling a spool of bandage and some rubbing alcohol.
She shut up then, and she wondered if she was really that see through or if David was just that good at his job. They stayed silent, except for the moan of pain she let out when he doused her hand in the solution, pulling the skin closed tightly and wrapping it taut enough for her to feel her heartbeat in her fingertips.
“It’s okay if you need a little help once in a while,” He continued, his movements gentle and careful, worried he’d spook her with the first real conversation they’d had in a long time. Rossi had always been closer to Emily than he had her, and maybe it was the fact he lost the few chances he had to be a father, or just the fact she reminded him so much of her older sister, but being with her felt like part of the wound in his chest was the one being treated. “Rather than being afraid to ask for help, remember this: When you ask someone to help you, you are actually doing them a tremendous favour by giving them an opportunity to feel needed.”
“Is that a David Rossi original, or did you get that from one of your self help books?” She sniffed, hoping he didn’t see the way her expression had fallen, or her throat caught with an apology, or how she hid it with a small smile.
“Richard Carlson.” He replied, pinning the end of the bandage in tight enough it wouldn’t snag. He sighed, looking at the girl who started guiltily at her fingers, reaching behind her for the corkscrew, “I’ll go get the Sauvignon, you order us a pizza. Just please god, no pineapple, that’s just as bad as instant noodles in my books. That’s like asking Da Vinci about bitcoin, it’s madness,”
And that was the first time she properly laughed in weeks.
While Derek was more than equipped to schmoozing the ladies when he wanted a date with them, he had not been ready for this when he’d asked Bugsy to go to the club with him.
She had been doing better, Rossi had said. She had seemed stronger, that was what Hotch had told him. Spencer said they’d even gone for coffee together. He left out the part where it felt awkward and almost like they were seeing an ex, though that of course would be impossible, because they were never dating. At least as far as he knew anyway.
It had been going fine, they’d gotten two rounds of drinks, had been chatting and she’d even been giggling the more the alcohol hit her. She was looking more like she used to, and it almost all felt like a horrible dream hearing from the rest of the team the state she was in.
He’d turned his back for a second, for two damn seconds, and she’d been whisked away by some frat boy, and come back to him with a crazy happy look in her eye that he didn’t notice until an hour later.
“Where did you go, kid?” He’d asked, and she’d shrugged like it was nothing.
“Needed the bathroom,” She said, and he hadn’t even noticed it was a lie until the light struck her eye for more than a couple seconds and he saw just how dilated her pupils were, like the blackness swallowed her iris whole, and the way she buzzed on the spot with more energy than she’d had in months.
She was supposed to be getting better, and she was trying, really she was.
But she couldn’t stop seeing the blood on her hand, couldn’t stop seeing Emily’s face now she could actually sleep again.
Spencer was half way through his fourth re-read of War and Peace, in its original Russian translation, when he got the knock on the door.
It was 10pm, he muttered to himself, who was bothering him at this time.
But of course, as luck would have it, it was the one person who he hadn’t stopped thinking about, the one person who he hadn’t stopped thinking about for the past three years.
“Spencerrrrrrr!” She chirped, and immediately alarm bells were ringing in his head, her fingers linked with Morgan’s as if he’d all but pulled her to his apartment from the cab.
She wasn’t stumbling, and she smelled a little like alcohol, but not so much that her inhibitions would be completely destroyed, so he knew it wasn’t that. And Derek looked guilty, a serious kind of guilty like he’d suggested they take a drive on a motorbike with no helmet, or go chasing unsubs unarmed.
It wasn’t until she flung her arms over his shoulders, and he’d pulled her inside, Morgan following behind with a nervous clear of his throat that he realised what it was.
“Spencerrrr, I missed you! I missed you so much, Spencer!” And usually he’d love the way she said his name, but this time it was tainted, too false, too electrified. It barely even sounded like her, he hated the way his heart still pounded out of his chest at the fact she pressed herself so close in that little clubbing top of hers, those tight jeans.
“What did she take?” He ignored her little hums of a song he couldn’t hear, the way she pushed herself even further into his body in a way he knew too well felt like a warm hug throughout her entire being. “Morgan!”
Spencer had never snapped at him, not since his own days on whatever it was he was doing, and Morgan ran a hand over his face as she nuzzled her nose into his neck.
“I don’t know, I swear. I turned my back for two seconds to get us another drink, and next thing I know this senior is hitting on her and she’s shoving gum in her mouth and coming back towards the bar- I don’t know what it was, I swear I thought it was gum, man,” Derek rushed, hating the look of desperation in Spencer’s eyes as he yanked her away from him with a small mewl of protest from her mouth.
“Hey, hey, sweetheart, look at me,” He murmured, and she did, and he saw almost immediately the way her pupils were the size of saucers when she stared at him, crazed and intoxicated, “Do you remember what you took? I need to know so I can keep you safe,”
“You always keep me safe, so safe with Spencer,” She giggled to herself, trying to pull him back to her, but he wouldn’t budge, not until he got a real answer, “Come on, I’m going to be fine, it was just a little Molly, nothing to worry about. Kid even gave me a half for like ten dollars because he said I was reeeeeal pretty. Do you think I’m pretty Spence? I think you’re pretty, I think you’re super pretty,”
They felt themselves sigh in relief, because while still a drug, half of one pill shouldn’t really do much, especially if it was the cheap stuff going around frat houses that the DEA was having a field day with.
Morgan looked at Spencer, where he let her shove her face against him once more, wrapping his arms around her back and feeling her sigh in relief that she was back there under his warm touch, and they shared the same thought.
This never happened.
Because if it did, it meant opening a can of worms Spencer had tried for years to shut tight. It meant acknowledging that the reason Morgan came to him and no one else was because he knew Spencer would know how to handle her when she was coming down in an hour or so. It meant acknowledging why Spencer would know that, and why they hadn’t acknowledged it the first time around. It meant their jobs would be on the line, and so was hers, and as much as she was struggling at the moment, they knew she just slipped up, and that this wasn’t who she was. They knew she could be better, that Spencer would force her to get better, because if the only other option was having her turn into who he used to be, then he was handing in his notice first thing Monday morning.
That wasn’t an option in Spencer’s books, nor was it in Morgan’s.
So Morgan left with a little pat on the back of her head, claiming she was a little troublemaker, though he hadn’t quite sounded as teasing as he’d intended and more bitter, and leaving Spencer with her to minimise the damage.
Bugsy let him lead her to the spare room that once was hers, but she didn’t quite care enough to say anything other than, “I missed you so much,” As she pushed her face into his neck more.
He sighed, sitting her down on the bed, knowing where she’d left some of her makeup wipes in his bathroom.
“Stay right here, I’ll be right back,” But she whined again, making a grab for his hand, which he quickly avoided, feeling mean for it the moment he saw her face scrunch in hurt. He stroked her hair behind her ear, watching her melt under his touch, and it almost felt like nothing had changed, like she had never moved out, and like she hadn’t just burst back into his life after popping a bit of molly and turning his evening upside down, “I missed you so much, too, Bug,”
And he wasn’t lying. Not even a little bit.
She looked up at him with those dazed pupils, as big as dimes as they batted up at him dreamily, and some awful part of him always wanted her to be looking at him like that, like everything he ever did in his life was perfect and he was a god among men. Like she was seeing her favourite movie for the first time on the big screen, when in reality he was just wiping her makeup off her face and handing her spare clothes to change into so she could sleep off the come down.
It wasn’t until he tried to leave again to go get her some water that she put up a real fight, one that couldn’t be fought off with a gentle touch (he tried), and she was quick to grab his wrist, tug him closer to her.
“Bug, I’m getting you-”
“Come lay down with me, let’s talk. I love talking to you, why haven’t we talked in so long?” She said like every barrier she ever put up had come tumbling down and her mouth was a free for all for her every thought.
Spencer smiled despite himself, his honeycomb eyes soft as he shuffled to lay beside her, and they stared at one another, heads against the same pillow, and she looked soft than an angel laying on his bed waiting for a response. She looked happy for the first time in a long time, and he hated how much it suited her.
“You moved out, remember, bug? You said you wanted to go home and I didn’t want to stop you,” He said gently, like he didn’t want to upset her. But she just giggled and shook her head like he’d told her a joke.
“Oh, yeah. But I didn’t really want to go home. I wanted to be with you. I want to be with you forever,” Bugsy giggled to herself, wiggling her toes inside her socks and running a finger up his arm gently as she lay on her side, “I missed you so much,”
His brow furrowed, “What do you mean you didn’t want to go home?” But she wasn’t listening, she was tracing over his face with her fingertip, running over his nose gently, past his full lips that quivered under her touch, “Bug,”
“Hm?”
“What do you mean you didn’t want to go home? Why did you leave?” He asked again, and she looked back up at him with a shrug, shuffling closer to him, so close he could feel her breath fan over his cheeks.
“I thought here with you was my home. I wanted it to be.” She said, her fingers finding their way into his nightshirt, “But I felt too guilty being so sad all the time, like I was getting my sad all over you and you couldn’t do anything about it because I was the loser girl with the dead sister you had to look after,”
His eyes burned with emotion, and he willed himself not to cry, because suddenly it made sense why she had pulled away so fast. She looked at him like he’d hung the damn cosmos in the sky; had he not even paid attention to the letter she’d written Emily. She felt like she was dragging him down, the way she felt about everyone in her life, and decided to cut herself free before she took him with her. And look where that had landed her.
He felt like a fool.
“No, no,” Spencer whispered, pulling her into his arms, because he was scared that come morning she would take a million steps back and up and leave him all over again, “That’s not true, that could never happen, you hear me? I liked taking care of you, I wanted to take care of you.”
“Really?” She asked hopefully, her face soft and dream-like, “I liked taking care of you too, when you would let me,”
It was true he had tried to push his own feelings on the back burner, besides the few times the dam had cracked and he wound up with his head in her lap receiving the brunt of the affection that evening. He didn’t know why he ever doubted she would have wanted to do that; when he had his migraines she had done nothing but love on him until he felt full to the brim of her warmth.
He felt himself chuckle, and she shuffled entirely into his arms then squashing out any last molecule of space left between them, and his hand slid over the back of her head, fingers rubbing softly into the nape of her neck which only made her moan loudly, entirely unaware of how sensitive her skin was from the molly.
“That feels nice, Spencer,” She hummed, her thighs straddling his own as she squished herself against him more, “You feel so nice, I love you so much.”
He would be lying if he  said the sounds she was making didn’t shoot straight to his dick, and hoped more than anything that she couldn’t feel how it pressed against his stomach angrily. His heart beat rattled loudly, and he swore she had to be able to hear it.
“I love you too,” Spencer sighed, wishing he could have said this to her sober. Wishing she wouldn’t shut him out so easily, wishing he’d pushed her walls a little harder.
Then she did something he wasn’t expecting. It took all of two seconds for him to close his eyes and hum in content, where her hands were playing with the soft of his waist, and his fingertips stroked her jaw gently, but in a quick movement she planted her lips on his in a soft, sweet peck that he barely had time to register was happening before he pulled away in shock.
She kissed him. She had kissed him.
And he wanted her so badly, wanted her in every way it was possible to have someone, wanted to kiss her so hard his face went blue and his lips went numb and his throat burned with lack of oxygen. But he would never dare do anything when she was like this; vulnerable, intoxicated, unaware that the pill she’d taken had acted like a truth serum.
“We’re so silly,” Bugsy giggled, and for a moment she looked twenty two again, like the girl that had answered the door to him in college in nothing but her boxers and a shirt, with her metal music playing so loud he could hear it ringing in his ears minutes after she’d switched it off. She looked like his Bugsy again.
Spencer chuckled with her incredulously, feeling his face on fire from her action, feeling like a weight had been lifted off his chest that had been immovable for months, because as hard as her come down would hit her, things seemed different now, like they actually had a kicking chance of getting through the grief together.
But before he could say anything else, her eyes had fluttered shut under the warmth of his palm, and she had drifted off to sleep.
He guessed he’d have to tell her tomorrow.

i wonder - edward cullen x reader
Tumblr media
<<prev >>next
As you tossed and turned you thought you were going crazy.
It was normal to think of someone, but you’ve never experienced someone taking up your entire mind.
You hadn’t touched your keyboard. You only stared at it. You haven’t played since your fingers knew what the Cullen’s grand piano had felt like. You look down at your fingers before closing them into fists. You wonder how much things had changed.
Walking outside, bundled up, you slightly jump from the sight of Edward, once again leaning against his car.
Waiting for you.
“Oh! Hello.” your parent greets beside you.
“Hello. Do you mind if I take Y/N to school today?” he asks politely. You watch the scene unfold without saying anything.
“I don’t mind.” they reply as they look at you, look at him.
“Are you ready?” Edward takes his eye contact and puts it in your direction. You just nod.
Your parent tells you they will see you later before adding, “Young man you shouldn’t stand outside in the cold like that. You will get sick.”
“I have a very strong immune system.” he says with a grin and your parent does nothing but shake their head and mutter, “You kids.”
Edward opened and closed your passenger door for you.
You silently just hold your hands to the hot air that flowed out of the vents. He didn’t say anything either.
You slowly would take looks from the corner of your eye before watching the snowy road in front of you.
No words were said, but he still walked you to your locker to put your coat away.
You tried very hard to focus. You looked down on your eraser covered quiz that the teacher had issued. You sigh to yourself as you brushed the eraser crumbs away.
Lab day.
You looked next to you, your lab partner was absent.
“Y/N?”
You look up to your teacher after you had collected the necessary materials for the day’s lab.
“Yes?”
“Your partner isn’t here. Do you want to work by yourself or do you want to join a group? It’s up to you.”
“Um…” you say and slowly take in your options. Other partners started to already get to work, the small chatter swirled in the science environment.
“By myself.” you say.
“Okay.” they reply with a soft touch to your shoulder and walk to another group, checking up on what they’re doing.
You write your name on the worksheet.
“Can we work together?” you hear and you immediately look up.
Edward’s eyes weren’t shy as he peered down at you.
“S-sure.” you say. You watch his body move to sit in the spot your partner usually sits in.
He then takes control, doing most of the work as he lowly tells you the answers.
“I could’ve helped. I’m not entirely useless.” you whispered as the teacher told a group to stop goofing off.
A small chuckle comes out and he says, “I know. I just want to get done faster.”
“What’s the rush?”
He shrugged before looking at you and you look down.
“Is something wrong?”
You shake your head.
“Then what is it?”
“It’s nothing..Am I..Acting like something’s wrong?” you ask as you write down the answers that he pushed in your direction.
“It’s just…You aren’t your talkative self.”
You just nod silently.
“I have a lot on my mind.” you say.
“What is it?” he immediately asks.
“Nonsense. Things that aren’t really all that important.” you brush off.
“I have a lot on my mind as well.” he says after you both looked at the scale and write down the ounces.
“What is it?” you ask.
He sighed softly, only a bit before looking at you with a soft grin, “Why did you really stop playing yesterday?”
You sit back in your chair a bit, “Because..” you say with a shrug, “I wasn’t trying to make it seem like I was a show off or anything.”
“That was your moment to be a show off.”
“Well..It’s over now.”
“It doesn’t have to be.”
You look at him in question just as the bell for the first half of class ending, rings.
As students went to their lockers and used the bathrooms, you and Edward stayed seated at the lab table.
“What are you doing after school?”
“I have a piano lesson today.” you tell him.
It seemed as though Edward tried to think of something else to say.
“After that?”
“Going home…” you say with a slight shrug.
The class resumed after the small break. The teacher closed the door back.
“Are..Are we finished?” you ask as Edward takes both of your completed worksheets in his hand.
He nods and placed the sheets in the bin. The teacher grins a bit and goes back to typing on their open laptop.
You then pull out homework.
“Where did you move from?”
You tell him.
“That’s not far…” he mused and you nod.
“Has it always been one parent?”
“Divorce.” you answer in a small voice as you fly through the homework. You just did not feel like doing it later.
“Where are you going to college?”
You pause your writing and look up at him with a pitiful expression. He’s amused by this.
“I really don’t want to talk about all of that right now.”
You’ve heard enough of it at home.
“May I ask why?” he asks.
“It’s just..Not my priority right now, alright? I…” you say and look down to the pencil that’s clutched in your hand, “I don’t even know what I’m going to major in, let alone choose a school.”
“Music.” he says as if it’s very obvious.
“I’m afraid it’s not a safe career option.” you say.
His eyebrows furrowed a bit, “Why isn’t it?”
“I guess my lovely parent has nightmares of me being a homeless but talented musician.” you mutter. This makes him laugh a bit.
Walking side by side in the halls, he stops before the cafeteria is in view.
“Skip your lesson.”
You whip around at him as if he was crazy. He just plainly stared at you.
“Why on Earth would you ask me to do that?” you ask.
“We can work on your song for your competition recording.”
“That’s why I going to my lessons.” you say and nudge his arm.
“I can teach you superb notes to play. Something that isn’t repetitive.” he insisted.
“You don’t even know the song I’m playing.” you say.
The people you sit with at lunch walks past, questions that you know you will have to answer to at the table, is painted on their faces.
“Tell me.”
You tell him.
He shakes his head slightly, showing disapprovement.
“Come on..That’s elementary for your skill level.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. I’m not skipping my lesson. Plus, I don’t want to get trouble when I’m supposed to be there and I don’t show up because I was getting my own special lesson from you.” you say and you walk away at that.
They did ask what you two were talking about.
“We had to work together in science today. It’s nothing.” you wave off.
A new chapter was taught in history. In the dark room that was lit up from the teacher’s screen, showing what needed to be wrote down, the class took notes. Jasper was back in his seat in the back of the class.
You slid your coat on and watched as Edward stood in front of you. He did something that surprised you.
He extends his arms and zips your coat up for you. You blinked.
“Thanks.”
He only nods.
“Here to convince me?” you poke at him.
“It seems you have your mind made up.” he says.
He tells you goodbye as you walk to the car that your parent was in.
As they drive, you notice that you’re going in the direction of your home, not to the place where the lesson was held.
“Where are you going?” you ask.
“We have to talk.” they tell you.
“Okay..”
“I feel like we should pull back from lessons-“
“What?”
“Y/N, sit back.” they say as they take a glance at you.
“No.” you say. They give you a look. You sit back.
“Why? Why are you doing this to me?” you ask desperately.
“You need to be more focused on what you’re going to do with your life.”
You cross your arms as you felt like you were going to cry.
“I know what I’m going to do with my life…Just please don’t take this away from me. Please!” you beg.
“What are you majoring in?” they ask as you both come to a stop at a red light.
You didn’t have an answer. You couldn’t blurt out an answer because they will hold you to it.
“See? Maybe this summer we can put you back in but for right now-“
“This summer?! That’s like…” you quickly count on your fingers, “Five months from now! What am I going to do until then?”
“Study. Really get down into what you are going to go to school for. If you’re going in my profession, I can start pulling some strings now but otherwise, get some letters of recommendations ready so you’re not scrambling all around last minute. Then, we gotta start doing tours of schools. There’s a lot to be done Y/N and now’s the time to start getting prepared. You can always tinker around with your piano once your business is taken care of.”
You slump back in your seat and let the rest of the lecture go in one ear and out the other. It was completely unfair.
You press down on your keyboard sadly as you couldn’t think of giving it up.
You barely spoke in the morning as you got dropped off at school. Your parent still wished you a good day. You were planning to have the most terrible day.
“How was your lesson?” Edward asks as you shoved your belongings in the locker and slam it shut.
“No more lessons until the summer. Yay me.” you say and storm off. He keeps up.
“Why?”
“Because.” you huff out angrily, “Because..Apparently it’s only pleasure and not at all business.”
“I’m sorry..” he says.
You give him a quizzical look, “Why are you apologizing?”
He opens and closes his mouth and opens it again, “It’s unfortunate..”
You nod and start to go inside of the classroom but his hand touches the hand that was at your side. You look at him.
“We can practice after school.”
You shake your head.
“Nah..”
“Why not? Isn’t that what you want?” he asks.
“It is but…You’ve done enough as it is.” you tell him.
You felt his eyes watch as you walk to your seat and sit down.
Quizzes were passed back. You read the score.
“6/10”
Your teacher leans down to quietly speak to you, “I know you can do better than that.”
You nod.
Your acting skills were then put to the test when your lab partner gushed to you about why they missed the day before. A college tour.
The teacher walks in and everybody has a seat and new notes on the new lesson were taken.
Edward walked to the spot you two always sit, in the back of the library but you walked in another direction.
You needed time to think. You sat by yourself as you stuck your headphones in and listened to music quietly.
You felt a hand touch your shoulder.
Taking them out, you look up to find Edward.
“Study hall is over.”
You rise and he actually waits as you gather your things.
“Kind of sucks you are a year below me. You have more time to figure things out, if you haven’t already.” you say. A small grin appears on his face, “What makes you think I might have things figured out?”
You take a quick look at him as you both walk in the halls, “You just look it.”
“Look it?”
“Yeah. Like…You have yourself together.”
“Like I have myself together.” he mused.
“Correct.”
“What else do I look like?”
You chuckle a bit, “You just…I don’t know you just seem mature. Especially for your age.”
“I’m mature for my age?”
“Are you just gonna repeat everything I say?” you ask with a smile.
“Maybe..” he says and the brunette that you have seen around, looks in both of your direction. She prolongs her eye contact before books slide out of her hands.
You watch as a boy eagerly picks them up. You look to see that Edward was watching the scene unfold right with you.
You then continue walking.
“She’s not my friend.”
That’s what played in your head. You don’t know why it stuck out to you but it kept replaying as you ate your lunch.
“I wonder if he’s lying.” you thought in your head but you then wondered why you even cared if he was or not. It’s not like you liked him or anything. You just thought he had a good looking face.
“Is Edward Cullen dating Bella Swan?” you couldn’t help but blurt out at the table.
A girl next to you looks at you with a snigger, “As if. I’m surprised a Cullen is even talking to you.”
“Why?” you ask.
“They talk to no one. They would be freaks if they were ugly. That’s what makes them so interesting. Rich, smart, good looking, good family, but they never talked to anyone here.”
“Edward talked to Bella.” you point out.
“Yeah for like a second. Then, it went back to him being to himself.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. She almost got crushed by some van and apparently he was there beside her when it happened.”
So, that’s why they were both at the hospital. That’s why the nurses commented on it being hectic that day.
“Huh.” you replied in thought.
“Yup. Some kid named Tyler who couldn’t control his own van. The van was skidding down ice and everything. She’s so lucky she didn’t get crushed. The paramedics came and everything.”
“Wow. I came right after all of the excitement.” you comment and laughs circled around the table.
You felt a nudge after you walked out of the cafeteria.
You look and display a grin.
“Hey, Alice.”
“Hey, you.” she says and she’s skipping at your side, linking her arm with yours.
“Wanna come over after school?”
You sigh a bit, “I really wish I could. I got a lot of work to do.”
“You do? It was a pretty relaxed day, at least for me.” she says.
It felt like she caught you in a lie.
“It-Its not homework. Honestly..Can I be honest?” you ask. She nods as she encouraged you. You wanted to say what was on your mind but you couldn’t form the words. You opted for something else instead.
“I don’t think I can come over today. I have to start researching for schools. I don’t feel like hearing another lecture.” you say in a tone that screamed pity.
She smiles a bit, “Why don’t we do so together? I might need ideas.”
“Darn you.” you say with a slight point, “Why do you have to have an answer for anything?”
She laughs as Jasper says hello to you. You both walk into the classroom together after you greet him back.
In your last class of the day, you let your parent know that you won’t be needing a ride home.
Edward was there when you came out of the classroom. You nod a greeting.
“Alice told me you’re coming over.” he says as you both walk to your locker.
“Yeah.”
“What changed your mind?”
You open your locker and don’t say anything.
“She asked me. We are researching schools together.”
He snorts. You look at him.
“Alice had her school picked out since forever.”
“So she lied?” you deadpanned.
“I wouldn’t say she lied. You said you wanted to research schools. She offered to do so together. She can still research schools with you even with her own picked out.”
You shrug on your coat and your coat is zipped up from him. He opens his hand. You look at it. You watch as it moves towards your backpack and he eventually holds it in his hand.
You place your hands in your pocket.
“You never wear one.” you observed.
He doesn’t say anything.
Sitting at the family computer, you were bored. You were more interested in Alice’s conversation than the descriptions of what a school was offering on the big screen.
“Fashion?”
She nods.
“You’re so lucky your parents are letting you major in that.” you say.
Her eyebrows furrowed a bit, “You have your music.”
“Yeah but..” you then shake your head, “Not to go get a degree for. I’ve been told, it’s pretty much useless.”
“Nonsense!” she says.
“Exactly.” you sigh out.
“She can’t take lessons anymore.” you hear Edward’s voice speaks out.
“What?!”
You giggle at her outburst.
“Y/N, I’m sorry.” she says.
“You weren’t the one who took it away from me. I will be okay.” you say.
Jasper comes into the computer room, peeking his head in.
“Alice are you ready?”
“Coming.” she says and turns back to you and gives you a quick hug before following him out.
“Where are you going?” you ask.
“We’re visiting a..Family member. Edward..Are you coming?”
You watch him shake his head.
“See you.” Alice says and grabs Jasper’s hand.
The room was silent and you scroll a bit before looking at Edward who was watching you.
“Why didn’t you go?” you ask.
“Didn’t want to.” he says. You nod and look back at the screen.
“You said you wanted to hear me play.” he says.
“Uh huh.” you say.
“Come on.” he says and you see that he’s leaving out. You exit out of the browser and follow him.
He pats the spot next to him on the bench. You sit as you concentrate on his fingers.
It was like an orgasm for your ears. Your eyes were stuck to his fingers. His fingers moved with such speed and precision. The music that produced from him and his piano was the most loveliest sound that your ears had ever heard.
When the song was over, he played around with some notes. It reminded you of a hotel lobby.
“I’m not ready at all.” you whisper.
“What?” he asks with a small chuckle.
“There’s definitely going to be people who play like that.”
“I doubt it.” he quietly but confidently says.
You don’t say anything and you press on the weighted key with one finger.
“Do you want me to teach you that song?” he asks.
You look at him with wide eyes.
“What song?” you ask. He chuckles again.
“The song I just played.”
“Yeah, right.”
“It is a competition. It’s about being the best.” he says.
You shrug a bit.
“When’s the deadline?”
“Next month.”
He nods, “Okay. That should give us enough time.”
“I didn’t say yes.”
“But you want to.”
You retract your hand from the keys.
“How did you get so good?” you question.
“Years and years of practice.”
“You…Not to give you a big head, but you play very good. Like, better than some composers I’ve heard.”
He smiles as he looked at the keys.
“You let me teach you, you’ll win. What’s the prize? Money? Scholarship? What?”
“Money but, I don’t really care about it. I just wanted to be able to have the experience of winning something like that…I want to be able to say, well hopefully say, ‘I won that.’” you admit. He doesn’t say anything but you can tell he soaked in your words. You look away from his gaze.
“You do that a lot.”
“Do what?” you ask and glide your finger across the keys one time.
“You don’t like looking at me.” he says.
You pause your movements.
“What do you mean?” you ask quietly.
“I mean that you don’t like looking at me. You look away from me all the time.”
You shrug, “I’ve never noticed.”
“You’re not even looking at me now.”
You breathe of a small laugh but you still don’t meet his eyes.
“That doesn’t mean I don’t like looking at you.”
“Do you like looking at me?”
“I don’t…Know.” you answer honestly.
“I like looking at you when I’m talking to you.”
You don’t say anything. You instead shift a bit in your bench. You slowly look to him and his expression is warm but he took in your face. His eyes moved about subtly as you both blinked at each other.
You look away with a small but breathy chuckle.
“You did it again.” he says.
“We didn’t talk.” you reply.
“We’re talking right now.”
“You’re intense..” you comment.
“Is that bad?”
“I don’t know.” you answer honestly.
He taught you the beginning part. He made you do it over and over and advised you to practice when you got home. It definitely was a challenge.
“Thank you teacher Edward.” you joke.
He zipped your coat up and smiled, “You’re a very good student.”
You walk out of his house and you look to him, “You zip my coat up but you never thought to zip yours up?”
“I’m not cold.”
“Edward, are you sick in the head or something?”
He laughs. Laughs as if it was a joke made by a comedian.
He opens the car door up and you sit in the car.
He drops you off and before you get out, “Can I pick you up tomorrow?”
Your backpack is in your lap and you say, “It’s fine. You and your siblings have been good to me. I won’t ask you to do too much.”
“It’s not too much on my part, Y/N.” he says and the look on his face was sincere. You just nod.
Over dinner, you had to explain yourself.
“We were studying.”
“Did you study for schools?”
You groan as you set your fork down.
“Yes. I did.”
“Okay. What school?”
“I want to major in music.”
Their own fork clatters as they look at you.
“Y/N. We are not having this talk again.”
“It’s my passion.” you say.
“I know that-“
“Do you? I don’t want to work a job where I’m unhappy.” you say as you poke at your food.
“I don’t think you should hang around that boy anymore.”
“Really?” you ask.
“It’s like you’re distracted.”
“How? My homework’s done, I’m doing what you’re asking, please don’t strip my entire life from me.”
They don’t say anything.
You worked your fingers with your keyboard with your headphones plugged in.
Newfound determination came out as you practiced.
So that’s how it went.
He would pick you up from school, walk you to your classes, you would look up in science as you worked with your lab partner and catch him staring, and he would walk you to his car after school.
You both worked together on the song he was teaching you. He was mature with his criticism. It felt like you were in an actual lesson and he was an actual teacher. He knew his stuff.
You felt yourself improve each day. Your time at the Cullens lengthened to the point, you wondered how come you never seen them eat dinner.
The sky was darkened, mostly due to the ending of daylight savings time and you sat quiet in the passenger seat.
“What’s wrong?”
You look to him focused on the road and you shake your head, “Nothing’s wrong.”
“You haven’t said anything since we left my house.” he says.
“Just…I’m just…Do you and your family eat?” you blurt out.
You watch as his lip curled up in amusement.
“Yes. We eat.”
“You guys must eat really late.”
“Yeah.”
“What’s your favorite food?” you ask.
“You wouldn’t like it…I’m a vegetarian.”
You eyed him but didn’t say anything else.
You reach for the door but he calls your name.
“Yeah?” you answer.
He’s hesitant, but he forces it out, “Next week, after we record your solo, can I take you to dinner?”’
“As…Friends?” you ask.
“Whatever you want.”
“I’ll think about it.” you say with a smile. He formed his own as he watched you walk inside your home.
It was surprising. You dreamed about playing the piano. You dreamed about playing the piano with Edward.
You yawned a little as you felt him put an arm around you as you both walked the halls.
“You didn’t get sleep?”
“Not really.” you say quietly and looked at his limp hand that was attached to the arm that was around you.
At lunch, the question was dropped like a bomb.
“Are you and Edward dating?”
“No. We’re just friends.” you say casually as you bit into your lunch.
Giggles circled and you furrowed your eyebrows, “What?”
It was a study hall day, you and Edward sat really close to each other in the back of the library.
“People are thinking we are dating.” you say with a straight face.
He slowly grinned.
“I heard that too.” he says.
“I don’t want you to think I’m trying to make our friendship weird. I really appreciate all that you’re doing for me. Same with Alice and everyone else.” you say.
“So, have you thought about what I asked you?” he asks and you look down from his eyes.
“Um..Not really. I’ve been too tired…To really think.” you say.
“If you don’t want to, just say no.” he says.
“When I say I don’t know, it means I’m not sure if I want to or not.”
“What makes you so unsure?”
You just stare at your hands.
“Why did you give me that song out of all songs?” you ask, changing the subject.
He notices but goes along with it, “It reminds me of you. It fits you.”
“Whatever that means.” you say with a slight chuckle.
“It’s true.” he answered.
The week went by fast. Too fast.
It was the weekend. He waited outside of your home as you got into his car on an early afternoon.
You aimed the camera at you as it stood up tall on the camera stand.
You wring your fingers a bit before looking at him. His hands are in his pockets as he looked at you.
“I’m..Kinda nervous. This never happened before.” you admit.
“Just pretend you’re in your room by yourself.”
You nod and walk to the piano.
He stands by, ready to hit record.
You roll your shoulder back before positioning yourself and gave him a slight nod to let him know that you were ready.
He gave you a small thumbs up and you play with determination.
You surprised yourself as you owned the keys on the grand piano. You were thankful that he let you use his. The weighted keys were pressed down as the musical sounds filled the room. Your eyes followed your fingers and you were focused. The nervousness that you felt earlier rolled off of you by each second.
When you were finished, you look up to see a small smile and a small clap.
“You hit it right on the nose.”
“Thanks.” you say as you scratch the back of your neck.
Nothing was said as you scooted off of the bench and walk to the camera that was currently in his hands.
“I thought about it.” you say. He meets your eyes.
“Thought about what?”
“We can…Sit down for dinner. Thank you for letting me use your piano.”
“I told you, you were free to use it.” he says but his smile didn’t fade as he broke down the camera stand.
You nod and sit on the sofa as you watch the video of you.
“Are you proud of yourself?” he asks.
A small smile formed, “Yes.”
The rest of the Cullens made conversation with you as you lounged in their home.
You found out that they had traveled to different cities. They had great stories to tell.
You noticed they all had the same eye color. Questions ran deep.
Edward reached and opened the door for you as you walk in.
“Table for two.” he holds up two fingers.
You stare at his glass of water, untouched.
“This smells really good.” you say as the waiter sets your plate down. “Are you sure you’re not ordering anything?” you ask.
“I’m okay. I ate a big breakfast.”
As you chewed slowly, you began to think.
You swallow.
“Edward…Do you…Have an eating disorder?” you ask quietly.
“No.” he says with a smile. A bit of relief forms in you but you’re still confused.
“I’ve been with you almost all day and not once have I seen you eat. Or your family.”
“We just…Have a special diet is all. But really, I’m okay. I ate right before I picked you up.”
You nod.
Valentine’s day rolled around. People walked the halls with small teddy bears and candy from their own relationships.
You open your locker with your coat in hand.
The teddy bear was as big as the space in your locker. You look to Edward. He looks to you.
“This from you?” you ask. He nods.
You hold it up with two hands. The smile stretched across your face.
You set it back in your locker. You hug him. He hugged you back.
“You shouldn’t have.” you say to him with a grin.
“Do you like it?”
“Yes. I love it. Thank you.” you say. Your eyes then look about and you see people are walking past and staring.
“Is there something on me?” you ask in a whisper. You don’t remember dropping toothpaste on your clothes that morning.
“No.” he says with a slight chuckle.
You close your locker after making sure the bear was safe.
“Then, why are people staring?” you ask in another whisper.
You both start to walk and he puts his hand around your back and places his hand on your arm to pull you close, “They’re just curious. You have nothing to worry about.”
A dance was coming up in May.
You had no plans of going. That’s all your lunch table talked about.
“It’s girls ask guys. Are you asking Edward?”
“No. I don’t even want to go.”
“What?!” the entire table asks.
You shrug.
“You’re just going to do nothing but sit in your room?”
“Whatever.” you say as you playfully roll your eyes.
“We have no lessons today.” you say as Edward wasn’t going in the direction of your home.
“I know.” he says. You sit back in your seat.
You sat next to him on his couch in your room after you both finished homework.
“You don’t have a bed?” you ask as you noticed something missing.
He looked around.
You looked around with him.
“Are you going to the dance?” he asks changing the subject.
You look to him and shake your head.
“Why not?” he genuinely asks. You shrug, “We’re just going to be seeing the same people that we see everyday but just in different clothes.”
He chuckles at that.
“It’s your high school experience.”
“If you want me to ask you, just say that.” you say with a grin.
The look that displayed on his face make your heart thump, making you almost retract your statement due to nervousness.
“I want you to ask me.”
“Do we…Go as friends?” you ask.
“We could.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
He gets up and holds out his hands.
You eyed him as you get up as well, placing your hands in his cool ones.
“Does it bother you that your hands are cold?” you ask.
He shakes his head, “I’m used to it.”
His thumbs brush the back of your hands that made you let out a small breath, you look up to him. He was looking down at your hands but slowly looks up into your eyes.
Soon, he keeps one of your hands in his and placed one of his hands on your back.
“What are you doing?” you ask as you grinned.
He twirled you as if you both had done this time and time again.
“We should practice.”
You both slow danced and you both were amused.
He gave you a hug when you were about to unlock your front door.
“You should get in your car. You will get sick.”
“I’ll be okay.” he says near your neck.
Weeks rolled by slowly. Your dreams were consisting of more and more of Edward. You seen him basically everyday. Even on weekends.
You sat up late in the night. Your heart thudded.
You dreamed that you both kissed. Your mind was distracted.
You stopped raising your hand in class. It was as if he infected your mind to only think of him.
The teachers took notice.
At lunch, your friends invite you to Port Angeles for clothes shopping for the dance.
As you waited for one friend to get out of the dressing room, you thought about changing your mind.
It was to the point where your heart started to race when you were near him. Even when you thought of him.
Your first acceptance letter that came in the mail made your parent let off of your back.
“See? This is a great school too.” they say with a pat on your back. You nod.
You received an email. Stating that you won. You blinked at it.
You gasp and run to your parent.
“I won!”
“Won what? A scholarship?” they ask.
“No. The piano competition. I won.”
“Oh. That’s nice.” they say.
“I’m getting a check in the mail soon.”
“Good. You can put it towards your schooling to get the things that you need.” they start to stay on that topic. You tuned them out.
You nervously pace as you clicked on his contact. One ring.
“Hello?”
“Thank you. Thank you so much.” you just say.
“You’re welcome….What did I do?”
“I won.” you say with a smile. He congratulated you, telling you that he knew you had it in you.
“I’m not coming to school tomorrow.” he tells you.
“Oh. Why?”
“Family emergency. I’ll see you after though.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
It was like you were in a daze. The entire family did not show up. The teacher’s words morphed together. It was as if you were in a time warp.
You hugged the large teddy bear that he had given you when you got home. You didn’t know if you were going crazy but it freshly smelled like him. The bear rested right under your nose.
The weekend came and he calls you.
“I want to take you somewhere.”
“Okay.” you tell him.
The meadow was beautiful. You had to tell yourself to breathe. You felt his cool hand interlaced with yours and you let him tug you.
“How do you find something like this?” you ask.
“I like to explore.” he says quietly.
He pulled you to him as he took both of your hands. He looked down at you.
He brings you in closer with both arms around your shoulders, you look up to him.
“I have to tell you something.” he says quietly. You nod.
His gaze burns into yours, “I don’t want to go to the dance as friends.”
“That’s okay…I didn’t really want to go anyway.” you say. He chuckles softly before shaking his head. He then straighten out his facial expression.
“I still want to go with you. Together.” he confirmed.
“As in…?”
He only blinked as he peered down at you. You look away as you notice that you two were in a tight embrace.
The next day, he knocked on your door.
You let him in with a grin.
You both hug. You then take his hand and your parent allowed you to go with him and his family to play baseball.
“Isn’t it going to rain?” they ask him as Edward zipped your coat up.
“We’re trying to stick a game in before it does. he answered. He takes your hand and you’re following him to his car.
In the clearing area, the sounds of thunder was from the sky.
Alice grins, “It’s time.”
You thought that you were dreaming. There was just no way an average person could leap that high or run that fast. You had no words. You were very impressed and entertained.
The soft drizzle of rain dropped down as Alice threw the ball with a fast whizz. You heard thunder but instead of quick flashes of lightening strikes, you look up in the sky and see Edward and Emmett slam into each other. They’re on the ground laughing.
Alice throws, Rosalie is at the plate and cracks the ball with the bat. Once again, the loud struck of thunder surrounds the field but you knew it came from them.
“Y-you’re out.” you tell Rosalie. She gets up and whispered, “You could’ve let me slide with that one.”
“Cheating! You’re out!” Emmett says with a joyous grin. She flashed him an annoyed look.
“It’s just a game, babe!” he says.
You shrug with a soft smile as you help her brush the dirt off of her pants.
Jasper steps to the plate next and flips his bat impressively. Alice throws the ball and Jasper hits it and you watch as her eyes suddenly grow big.
Alice yells a time out that captured everyone’s attention. Before you knew it, your arm was grabbed by Edward as the family circled around you. It was as if they were hiding you.
“Let’s go.” Edward says to you.
“It’s too late. They were leaving when they heard us.” Alice whispered in slight panic.
You heard Alice hiss out in a whisper, “Cover Y/N’s scent.”
“Scent?” you wondered in your mind.
“You’re okay. Just stay quiet, okay?” he whispered to you, to calm you down. You nod slowly.
You look up to Edward looking at you out of the corner of his eye as he glued his hand into yours. You look down, his foot taps a steady rhythm. You wondered why he did it.
You hear Carlisle speak.
“Thank you.”
You peek and see three figures standing in front of the Cullens.
“I’m Laurent, this is Victoria and this is James.”
“I’m Carlisle and this is my family.” Carlisle says as gestures with his hands.
Laurent greets everyone.
You watch as Edward glared at someone. You didn’t want to look who it was.
“So…Could you use more players?”
There was hesitance and Laurent smiles, “Just one game.” he says with one finger up.
“Oh, alright. A few of us were leaving so you can take their spot.” Carlisle says and throws the ball back to Laurent. The girl however, Victoria, caught it with such insane reflex, you held back a gasp.
Slowly, Edward tugs you away. The family moved with his movements. Carlisle kept them talking. The rain started to pour more heavily.
Edward practically threw you in the car and he was already starting the engine before you could click your seatbelt in. You watch as the others form into a game.
He drives in silence.
“I shouldn’t have brought you here. I’m sorry.”
You do nothing but stare at him.
He dropped you back off at home.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” he says again as the rain poured down behind him. You both stood in front of the front door.
“We have to talk.”
“Okay.” he says with a nod.
You give him one last look before shutting the door behind you. The rain poured much heavier. You stare out of the window.
Hours went by. Your phone rings. You answer.
“Do you want to talk?”
You watch your wall, “Yes.”
“Okay.”
“Just tell me the truth Edward…Your family are like…Superheroes or something. They jump really high, run really fast, super fast reflexes, and you all have the same eye color. Those people..In the field, their eyes were red.”
There was silence before he spoke again, “You’re right.”
“What are you?” you ask. You felt like crying. It felt scary in a way.
“I don’t want to tell you over the phone. I want to see you when I tell you.” he whispered.
You set the phone down and cover your eyes with your hand.
“Y/N? Are you there?”
“Yes.” you say after you pick your phone back up.
He doesn’t say anything else.
“Edward….We can’t see each other anymore.” you say softly.
“Y/N..I promise to tell you everything…Just not now. Please?”
“How long do you want me to wait? I just want the truth. I’ve been truthful to you.”
“You have. I just don’t want to mess this up…Us up..I really like you.”
“I like you too….But..I’m afraid all things that we like might not be good for us.”
“Y/N.” he begged.
His tone made you breathe in.
“What did Alice mean by my scent? Why were you hiding me from the red eyed people? Are they dangerous?”
“Yes. They’re very dangerous. Your scent would’ve enticed them.”
“What does that mean?” you ask softly, trying to gain understanding.
He lets out a frustrated sigh, “I want to tell you everything in person.”
“But we will be at school. Our time will be limited.”
“Can I come over?”
“What?” you ask as you never snuck in a boy before. It was almost midnight.
“I’ll sneak through your window. I won’t make a sound. I will answer everything truthfully. I promise. I…Just don’t want us to be apart.”
You think for a moment. You wondered what could go wrong. He’s patient on the line. As long as you’re on the line, he was okay.
“You promise you will answer everything?” you ask.
“Cross my heart, hope to die.”
The statement made you chuckle a bit before he joins you.
You hang up with your head spinning. In a way, you thought back to things and how things used to be. You didn’t know if things were ever going to be the same. You were a bit scared of the soon to be answers to your soon to be questions. Not knowing what to expect, you just unlock your window without opening it. You then have a seat on your bed and hug the teddy bear that he had given you tight to your chest.

Maybe I should’ve said no. When Matt asked me out on a true date, my heart stopped. But - we had already gone on a date technically, so what was the harm now?
Shuffling through my clothes, I was facing the same issue as before. Nothing felt right. Even though I knew Matt like the back of my hand, the anxieties rushing through my mind kept weighing down more and more.
|  From Matt: Are you almost ready? No rush, just wondering when I should come pick you up :)  |
Sighing, I type on the keyboard with reluctance.
|  To Matt: Um kinda. Just struggling to pick out an outfit lol  |
The texting bubbles on the screen reappearing make my stomach twist in knots. Should I have told him that? This is supposed to be our first date - he’s not my friend helping me get ready anymore.
|  From Matt: I’ll come over and help? If that’s okay with you?  |
He wants to help. He always wants to help. And who was I to say no?
|  To Matt:  yes please  |
A smile spreads across my face, relief flooding my system as he lets me know he’s on his way. I look around the room, wincing at the mess of clothes scattered across the bed and floor. My hands hurriedly grasp onto the different tops and jeans, rushedly pushing the back into their designated spots.
It would only take Matt a couple minutes to drive over. I didn’t want him to see how much of a mess I had made, based on the fact that I was overthinking so much, but I just couldn’t help it. This going perfect felt like a dream come true.
Even though it felt like a nightmare to remember reality.
Cheaters were awful people - and I was one of them. Even if it wasn’t just one sided, how could I stoop so low? There were signs. I always wanted to be around Matt, even Hayden knew something deeper was going on. He called me out on it and I ignored it. And maybe that was on purpose.
Before I have any more time to sink in pity, I hear three soft knocks on the door. Matt. I take one last glance around my room. Good enough. At least I could see the floor now.
Taking steps towards the door, I open the door to find Matt standing with his hands behind his back. My head cocks curiously as he stares at me with a mischievous glance.
“Hey?” I question, laughing as he stays planted in place.
Matt bites on his lip, maneuvering his hands to the front. A slight gasp purses through my lips as I see the small bouquet of flowers come into view. He got me flowers. When was the last time I even got flowers?
“These are for you,” he says, pushing them forward into my hands.
Taking the bundle of florals, I smile at the fresh scent. I can’t believe he got me flowers.
“Matt,” I gasp, looking up at him with a soft smile, “-you didn’t have to get me flowers, oh my god.” Stepping to the side, I allow him room to waltz in. I shut the door, still admiring the petals beneath my nose as I hear him slide his shoes off.
“I know, I know. But,” he grabs the bouquet from my hand, walking over to the kitchen and pulling down a vase - a vase he had gotten for me when we went thrifting together. Piling the flowers neatly inside, he sets them on the counter, looking down at me with a glimmer of admiration. “I, um, I’ve always wanted to. I was just, I don’t know…scared of overstepping?”
Something in the pit of my gut lurches to my chest. Fluttering waves of excitement rush through me, my teeth biting down into my lip hard as I try to remain calm. I just wanna jump in his arms.
“Oh,” I breath out, suddenly breathless as he inches towards me even closer, his eyes peering into mine with intensity as I feel his nose brush against the tip of my own.
Fuck.
“I’m not overstepping?” he asks, his voice rough and strained.
I swallow thickly, shaking my head subtly. His hand reaches onto my hip. My eyes widen as I realize just how close he is. I want him to kiss me. So bad.
Starting to let myself give in, I keep leaning forward. This was finally it. I’d finally know what it feels like to have his lips on mine. Would it feel as good as I had imagined?
His hand squeezes on my hip. Matt leans backward, my heart sinking in my chest.
He pulled away. He didn’t wanna kiss me.
“Let’s go get you ready, yeah?”
Nodding my head softly, I try to keep a blank expression.
“I, uh - yeah…yeah..”
Why didn’t he wanna kiss me?
___
I kept forgetting about the almost-kiss. And then I kept remembering it. Over and over and fucking over again.
Matt was sweet. Everything about him screamed that he wanted this just as bad as I did. After a short drive, he had taken us to the beach. It wasn’t a very popular one. A sore sight of a rusted swing set and a lack of parking spots made this place deserted.
He had packed a bunch of my favorite snacks. Including Lunchables.
About a month into our friendship, we were at the grocery store, picking up snacks for a movie night. We passed the Lunchables. Matt had explained how Chris always wanted the mini pizza one, but he always wanted the other ones.
“I’ve never had one.”
The statement made his jaw drop. He insisted on getting every type, letting me try all of them. And I loved them.
I loved the food almost as much as I loved the memory.
Waves crashing and salt air. The blanket beneath us is a thin shield from the cold sand. Luckily, the outfit he helped me pick was doing a good job protecting me from the cool breeze. It was simple. Jeans and a cardigan, a cardigan he had let me borrow ages ago that I forgot to return.
Honestly, I had forgotten it wasn’t mine to begin with. I’d never seen him wear the green dinosaur sweater, but I bet he’d look cute.
“Thanks for doing all this.” I remark.
Matt looks over at me, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to my cheek softly. “Anytime,” he breathes.
His lips. The almost-kiss. Why did he pull away? I sit up straighter. Matt’s arm slung around my shoulder gets stiffer as he feels me readjust. “You okay?” he asks.
“Yeah.”
I don't even believe it. My words are blunt and dull, the weight of my shoulders tugging down even more as I feel him hug me tighter, reaching his other arm to grab my hand and clutch it gently.
He’s holding me so delicately. It almost makes me forget why I feel so drained.
Almost.
“Hey, what’s up? Talk to me,” he urges, softly pressing his lips to my knuckles.
A deep sigh purses through my lips. I look over at him, my eyes feeling heavy as my eyebrows knit together. “I just…earlier - I…” Matt squeezes my hand tighter, rubbing his thumb along the back of my palm, “-why didn’t you kiss me? Do you…do you not want to?”
Dry laughs echo through the air. I curl into myself, my heart tugging in my chest as I curl my knees up to his chest. Matt stops abruptly. His hand holding mine drops to the top of my knee, his eyes dazing into mine with an apologetic glance.
“Hey, hey,” he soothes, rubbing his hand over my thigh, “-I want to kiss you, I really do-”
“Then why didn’t you?”
Matt sighs deeply. He looks out to the ocean before trailing his eyes back to me. I feel his hand move, lifting from my knee and cupping my cheek. “I…”
His words catch on his tongue. The warmth of his palm cupping my jaw makes my body relax as I let myself lean into his touch. “Tell me,” I urge.
Shifting to face his body directly towards mine, he puts each of his hands on either of my cheeks. I feel my eyes water. So many emotions are rushing through my system and the way he’s looking into me only makes it so intense. I should be panicking, but the way he’s staring at me makes me feel calm. Dangerously calm.
“I…I don’t wanna fuck this up.” His statement makes my face crinkle with confusion. “Just - even the flowers. You deserve something special, I just…I don’t wanna rush things. You...you deserve it all.”
Oh.
The semi-bitter feeling turns into tooth-rotting sweetness.
I can feel the sunsetting emit a soft glow, curing the soft blow of wind with a gentle warmth. His eyes only aid the soothing sensation, igniting a peaceful heat from inside of my chest, making my body feel dizzy and light.
No bed could amount to the comfort he brought. The energy between us seems to muddle into a wishful beckoning - one that makes my eyes water with an overwhelming, fragile gravity. It’s so easy to fall. It’s so easy to let go.
It’s just so sweet.
A/N: Thank you for reading. Any interaction is appreciated!!! Let me know your thoughts! I’m sorry I love edging sm <\3

Just thought I'd mention...
Tumblr media
All the bundles over at Ebooks Direct (including the Whole Store bundle) are still being held at their pre-holiday sale prices. Two reasons for this:
(a) It's still the holidays, and I don't feel like raising them. (shrug) After the New Year, things will change. But not right now.
(b) I still haven't pulled together all the cash I need to take my writing computer into the shop and get its keyboard replaced (and deal with various other issues while it's there). So if anyone wants to assist with that by buying a bundle, do feel free.
Thanks, all!
(And the usual wistful reminder: these bundles [like all the rest of our books] are not available in the UK due to Brexit. Sorry, folks.)

It was just some random day when he met her. He remembers it though, he was at the market. She was there. Bundled in a jacket, some college pull over and a really nice pair of jeans. Damn him for being a collector, but he couldn't help but stare.
Did he have that pair?
Had he seen these before?
It was for far too long because the girl turned and saw him eyeing her. What the fuck.
"Do I really look that good? If you want to stare all day, just ask for a picture." Her voice was sharp, accusatory as she placed her hands on her hips and glared at him.
"What? No, no no. I-It's not what it looks like-"
"Yea? It looks like I just caught you fucking oogling over my ass, dickwad."
"No! No no! It's the jeans! I uh... I collect jeans and they look real nice!"
People started glancing and she cocked her brow.
"Jeans.... you collect jeans."
"Yeah... just a hobby or whatever."
Her eyes narrowed and sighed, "Orslo jeans. The standard ones."
His lips quirked, "Orslo... They look like their 1930's ones."
'What a weirdo,' She thought with a smile.
She was making some apple chutney brie tart. Didn't know what apple would go best. He helped her. For days he never stopped thinking about her. There was nothing extraordinary about her, at least to everyone in the world. He just wanted to know more, because this girl was cool. Cool in a sense she lit up the stalls with her smile. Cool because she knew her jeans. Cool because she was very particular on choosing the brie she liked, not what would go best with her apples. Cool because she remembered him the second time they met.
And like that, twice a week, Wednesday and Sunday, they would meet and get groceries. She would talk about how she liked to cook and how she for some reason could never bake chocolate chip cookies, how she was still looking for the perfect pizza in Chicago.
For weeks they would shop. For weeks he would listen to her about everything and nothing. She knew he was a cook and she asked him to come over.
"Want to come by for dinner? Tonight? I-I got some stuff I can make, but I don't wanna offend you with my cooking."
He laughed. He laughed because he hadn't in a long time felt this giddy.
"Im serious! You're some hot shot chef, I like making mac n cheese with too much chili peppers on top... but... I'd like for you to come over. Would that be okay?"
"Yea, that sounds good. What time? I can come by and help if you want?"
She didn't want him to help. She wanted to impress him. She really did.
"If you come any time before 6, you better bring a bottle of wine. I want to cook tonight, you just.... sit and be pretty."
"Pretty, you want me to be pretty."
She shrugged as they headed out, "Yea, you and those baby blue eyes."
She was a force that somehow managed to pull out every laugh he had. From the faces she made at the smallest mistakes, to the way her nose wrinkled whenever smelled something she didn't like, to the way her cheeks were full with joy when she was happy.
And he did come before six. He didn't know what kind of meat she had, so he brought both white and red. And he did sit and look pretty for her. Black capped tee with relaxed jeans. As big as a perfectionist as he was, he found it endearing with the oddly shaped vegetables and mess everywhere. And still, she had not a speck on her simple black dress. She spoke so animatedly as she cooked, hand on hip as the lined cross back apron swished around her.
From what he remembered, she burnt the potatoes and made her steak a bit too rare. But all that mattered was that they were together. She laughed it off, embarrassed, but he didn't care. It was good. Being with her made everything taste good. Life was so sweet that the bitterness of the potatoes faded away.
"I liked it." Was all he said and she couldn't help the smile.
They kissed that night. They fell into bed that night. And from then on, it was like that always. The warmth, the joy, the complete and utter mistakes they made were nurtured and taken care of.
Some days he would cook and it was her turn to sit and be pretty. He would get her sweet wine, because for some reason, she only liked to drink that. She didn't like the expensive things, she preferred the pastrami recipe from The Beef to the one he would make. She liked the rye bread from the bakery in chinatown than the one from the french bakery he went to, she liked the cheese from the supermarket than the one at the farmers market.
He would laugh. He would remember all these quirks that he didn't understand, and he would make sure he got it right every time.
Even after having her try all sorts of things, he kinda learned she didn't like rich chocolate, or imported flavors. Not that she wouldn't appreciate it, but it caught him off guard.
Not everything was meant to be perfect.
She could snack on fries from McDonalds instead of the ones he would make and he didn't care. He would snack on it too.
At some point, he moved in. Closed his lease and found that the warm kitchen was much more comfortable with her funny microwave that you had to hit to turn on, than the updated one he worked at all those years ago.
Sometimes, at night, he would cut up a bowl of carrots and make a side of ranch. Yes, ranch, making sure it tasted like the one from their favorite chicken wing place. She would be working, staying up late with her leg propped up on the chair and eyes glued to her screen.
Sometimes he would come home so tired from his shift that she would stay up, fresh clothes set aside for him and a smile on her face as she kissed him and waited for him in bed.
To Carmy, joy didn't come from perfecting his food anymore. It came from her. The way it radiated around her and uplifted him everywhere.
He told her about his aspirations to own his own restaurant and how she wanted to be the best teacher she could.
"It doesn't matter how long it takes for us to get to where we want to go. As long as I'm with you, I've got a smile on my face." She said.
And she did have that smile.
When they loved as lovers do, every inch of her was his to appreciate and make sure it never left him. He always touched her because he just wanted to feel her, no reason.
When Carmy kissed her, he always made sure it always felt like it was their last. Even if it was a peck.
When they would walk, he would switch hands behind his back incase he didn't like how close someone would get, or if they went to the other side of the road.
Always opened doors for her.
When she was sick, he knew she liked congee with a lot of ginger. She liked his home made sprite when her stomach was upset. When he was sick, he never realized how much he appreciated when she would take the day off just to make sure things were okay. A small fight because he didn't want her to worry or for her to miss work.
When they would actually fight, he would always make sure to tell her: "I'm not leaving you, I'm just going to cool off."
And he would come back.
When she was sad, oh you bet he was there. One time she came to work with him, she threw her self into peeling potatoes. Which then turned into her cutting onions and he got worried when she wouldn't stop crying. She said, "It's theraputic."
Kiss on the forehead and a smile home. It became a regular occurrence when she was sad.
When Carmy made a mistake, yelled at her or didn't know how to explain his anger, she would back away. Give him the space he needed then would come back and they would fix it together.
One morning, in the light of the sunrise, life had gotten away from him. They were growing older. Five years and they had been in this routine. She was still young still finishing school, he paid off his debts to Cicero and The Bear was thriving. Five years. It had slipped from him so quickly that he forgot.
He had so much to give her back.
From the nights of stress of building, money issues, she still stayed there. Still found a way to make him smile. Found a way to make it all just go away.
He called Richie that day. Asked him to come find something with him. Also asked Natalie to come with. No diamond in the world could shine as bright as her, but he made sure it was close enough.
Everyone knew about her and Carmy. Carmy and her. She was this missing piece to everyone's world.
The only spitfire that could render Richie speachless. The only other person who could handle the boys when Nat was tired. The only other person who could understand the way Sydney needed things done.
It was just her.
Now she wasn't a cure all, this hidden pearl. No, she was just who she was and it worked. It wasn't without the ocassional fuck up or mistake that left her stressed beyond all hell. No, it was what made them work so well.
The day Carmy proposed was the day Sydney asked her to run to the farmers market to grab more shallots for the dinner rush- everyone knew she was just closer to it than anyone at The Bear. The day Carmy proposed, she bought figaro shallots and zebrune shallots because they both looked the same and hoped they would work. The day Carmy proposed, she was a mess. Hair frizzy, bag hanging off her shoulder and her glasses skewed - her eyes just didn't want to wear contacts that day. The day Carmy proposed, the restaurant was empty, silent even.
It didn't cross her mind as she hurried to the back and she saw them. Carmy standing there alone, black capped tee and casual jeans. Hands behind him on the back of the stainless steel counter.
"Hey, honey bear... I bought shallots."
As confused as she was, she only thought about the shallots.
"Syd said you guys needed some and I couldn't remember which one you needed so I grabbed both types and-"
"Hon."
That's all he said.
The day Carmy proposed, he knelt down in the empty kitchen that didn't have its usual cold light. But the warm one that she liked and he had installed just for her.
"Marry me?"
It hit her like a truck.
She said yes, not verbally but with an attack of a hug and a searing kiss to him.
And they laughed that day. Laughed at the fact she still thought the shallots mattered, at the fact her nails looked like crap and the fact that everyone. All their friends and family, had all been there waiting for this one answer.
And for Carmy, this was it.

Let It Snow
Pietro Maximoff x Reader
Fandom: MCU

Note: Takes place in an “Everybody is alive and lives at the Avengers Facility” AU. Wanted to kick out one more Christmas/Winter imagine before getting into the New Year’s stuff.
Warnings: None?
Word Count: 1.5k
Reader Is: Gender Neutral, an Avenger.
Tumblr media
To be honest, you didn’t notice it at first, the slight chill in the air. You continued your work, typing away on the loud, typewriter-style keyboard on the fancy, expensive computer Bruce had built for you (with Tony’s money, of course).
And then it got…worse.
Your toes were numb and you were shivering, despite the long sleeves you were wearing.
You slid your feet into some slippers and walked out into the hallway, arms huddled around yourself as you wandered from your room, down the hall to where the thermostat was. You gave the up button a cursory press, waiting for the screen to blink to life and tell you what it was set to, but it didn’t.
Huh. Well, that was something, wasn’t it?
“(Y/N). Hello.” Vision materialized beside you, causing you to jolt in shock. “My apologies, I did not mean to startle you.”
“It’s fine, Vision. Do you know what this is all about?” You asked, shivering and motioning to the busted thermostat.
“It appears the furnace is broken. Mr. Stark and Dr. Banner are attempting repairs now, but it may take quite some time.”
“Oh. Gotcha.” You nodded, “Thanks for the info.”
“Of course. I do recommend you bundle up. It seems your body temperature is steadily decreasing.”
“Will do.” You saluted and pivoted on your heel, just in time to catch a face full of Pietro as he sped down the hall, sliding to a stop.
You ever so gracefully fell on the floor, staring up at him, disgruntled. “Nice one, Sonic.”
He chuckled, offering a hand, but you got up on your own, dusting yourself off. “What is the problem?”
“Furnace is busted.” You explained, patting his arm as you began walking away.
Pietro started walking backwards, keeping pace with you. “Where are you going?”
“To get into something warmer. Might be a while.”
One of his eyebrows quirked up. “Well, you know, I’ve heard skin to skin contact is the fastest way to warm up, if you need some help with that. I do have ‘improved homeostasis,’ as Banner puts it.”
“I’m good, thanks.” You deadpanned, shutting your door in his face. You could feel him lingering there for a moment before running back down the hall to his room, you presumed. You chuckled and rolled your eyes. Pietro was a flirt. Always had been. But things like this never worked out with people like him. Not in your experience, at least.
You changed into a cozy, zip-up onesie, feeling a lot warmer than before, especially with the hood over your head. You got back to your tying for a while. A few hours at least…until the lights went out.
“Great!” You threw your hands up, rolling away from the desk in your dark room.
In a huff, you stood up and walked to your window. It was a blizzard out there, inches and inches of snow on the ground. There was a knock on the door and whirled around to answer it. Part of you expected it to be Pietro standing there, but instead, it was Steve with a flashlight.
“Oh, hey. Is this because of the blizzard?”
“No, Tony says he snipped the wrong wire.” Steve shook his head. “Or something. Might be a while before it gets fixed.”
It was already getting late, and you were planning on going to sleep soon, but now, you weren’t so sure you should if you didn’t want to wake up a popsicle. “Okay, thanks for letting me know.”
You said, turning back to grab your phone and your water bottle to refill it before you figured out exactly what it was you should do in the meantime.
***
About an hour later, Pietro found you on the couch in the living room, shivering and reading a book by the light of a tiny, battery powered reading light. You were bundled up and, due to the lack of windows, you were pretty sure it was the warmest room in the facility. But as the temperature continued to drop, it didn’t seem to matter where you were.
“(Y/N), what are you doing in here?” He said, concern etched deep into his accented words. You met his eyes, wrought with worry and only offered a shaking shrug.
“I don’t want to g-go to sleep until the h-heat comes back on.”
He shook his head, crossing the room slowly for once, taking his time with each step. He sat beside you, not even bundled up beyond a hoodie and some sweatpants. For the first time in your life, you envied his powers. Carefully, giving you every opportunity to shove him off of you, he gently lifted your blanket, guided your book to the coffee table, and crawled on top of you, settling his body atop yours and sandwiching you between himself and the couch. He pulled the blanket back on top of the both of you, adjusting his head into the crook of your neck.
You were stiff at first, but at his warmth, you all but melted, eyes closing in bliss, your arms relaxing around him as you chased that feeling. His warmth. His scent, that sharp, woodsy cologne he was so infatuated with.
“Is this alright?” He asked, voice low and raspy.
You nodded, relaxing further into his hold, letting him warm you up. You pulled him closer, relishing in the feeling of your shivers slowly stopping. “Pietro…”
“I won’t say anything. The others don’t have to know.” He assured you, meeting your eyes before settling down again.
“I’m not too worried about that.” You whispered, suddenly overcome by it all. His proximity, his voice, the way his body felt melded against yours. It was right, what they said. Fitting like puzzle pieces.
“You’re not?” He asked, mischief at the edge of his tone. “Who are you and what have you done with (Y/N)?”
You scoffed. “You know, contrary to popular belief, I don’t dislike you, Pietro.”
“I don’t dislike you either.” He replied with a chuckle. “Kind of the opposite, in fact.”
Your heart picked up a quicker rhythm, cheeks flushing. You were kind of thankful the two of you were cuddled up in the dark. You hoped nightvision wasn’t one of his secret powers, or you were sure you’d never see the end of it.
“Please say something.” He murmured at the silence.
“You…”
“I thought it was obvious.” He muttered, words quick, flat at the edges.
You let another moment pass, choosing your words.
“I’m sorry. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to—”
You touched his face with a cold hand, guiding his chin so you could attempt to look him in the eyes in the silvery rays of light streaming in the window. “I like you, too.”
He grinned, breath catching in his throat. “You mean it?”
“I have for a while.” You confessed. “Since that first training session when you bulldozed me on the track.”
“I did not bulldoze you!”
“I don’t know, I felt pretty bulldozed, laying there, flat on my back, feet knocked out from under me.”
He chuckled. “I was trying to impress you.”
“Mission accomplished.” You laughed at the way frustration crept into his words. “I could never forget about it. My very first week on the team and already, someone was out to get me.”
“Oh my God.” He rolled his eyes, the words sounding unsure on his tongue. He shook his head, gaze softening as he reached up, a careful hand brushing the hair out of your face. “Are you warmer now, drága?”
“Much.” You nodded, brushing the tip of your nose against his. “I do have another idea for warming up, though…”
He smirked. “Such as?”
“Do I have to spell it out for you?”
“Please do.”
You rolled your eyes, and looped an arm around his neck, tugging him down to you and crushing your lips to his. He hummed in agreement, calloused fingers hooking your jaw, keeping you close as his kissed you tenderly, passionately, lips soft and perfect and experienced. He was the perfect distraction from the freezing room around you.
Then, suddenly, there was a loud thrum and the power kicked back on, bathing the room in light. You squinted, the appliances in the kitchen all beeping as they came back to life.
Pietro shielded his eyes with a hand, still hovering over you. You stared up at him for a long, quiet moment, still not entirely sure it had happened until he dipped back down and pressed a long kiss to your cheek, his stubble tickling your skin.
“Now let’s get you to bed, hmm?” He asked, helping you off of the couch as the facility gradually warmed back up. The two of you walked down the hall together and you yawned.
“What were you two doing down there?” Bucky asked, standing in his doorway. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
“I was just letting (Y/N) know the heat was back on.” Pietro shrugged. “I am the quickest, you know.”
“Uh-huh. Right.” Bucky nodded, suspicious, but backing away into his room anyway.
You got to your door and stopped in the doorway, turning to look at Pietro. His hand grabbed at your waist, tugging you in for a kiss that you gladly returned. When you parted, you watched him speed down the hall, hoping that when you woke, it wouldn’t all be some sweet, winter dream.

GAMER!BSF!GRAYSON who has a massive crush on you.
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: gn!reader, fluff (just in case you thought there wasn’t)
- He was never really into Minecraft, but you suggested a server to decompress from competitive online games.
- He loves it.
- Would definitely break your bed and put it next to his, saying some cheesy shit like, “I get lonely.” You don’t humor him, though eventually you give up because it resets your spawn point.
- He sees it as you liking him back.
- He would have a diverse playing style, but that’s only because it’s you. Oh, you want flowers? He’s spending an unholy amount of time getting the right ones. Need a lot of iron? You won’t see him in a few hours.
- He leaves you cute little signs if you aren’t on at the same time.
- Will learn how to build cool things just to see your reaction. He’d deny any remarks about him watching a tutorial.
- He isn’t sure why, but seeing you in a Nightwing skin has him flustered. A lot of bonus points if you have no clue that it’s him.
- He definitely has a mouth on online games. It’s honestly surprising how many insults he can come up with.
- Though, if you do some dumb shit, intentional or not, he wouldn’t utter a word. It wasn’t your fault you walked into an obvious claymore.
- If you’re doing good, expect praise. Or really, really questionable things.
- “Oh my God, you’re so hot,” with an unneeded breathy tone or, “Please kiss me.”
- He’d convince you to get matching gamertags.
- If you verbalize wanting anything, like skins or even a game, he’ll get it for you. It doesn’t matter that you don’t want him to waste his money on it, you’re getting that overpriced Valorant bundle.
- Sometimes, you both just sit in Discord calls, talking or watching something.
- Or falling asleep.
- Well, you specifically. He loves it. Loves when your voice gets noticeably softer, more tired. He always talks more quietly, as if he’s trying to lull you to sleep.
- He’s a night owl—usually you aren’t. He’d just busy himself with things, keeping his headset on just in case.
- He perks up like a dog when you unexpectedly mumble something, asking him how he could let you fall asleep.
- He’d just grin.
- Obviously you come over to hang out, or vice versa.
- Who knew he’d lose a game of Mario Kart just so you can tease him?
- He likes when you both do your own thing, barely any words uttered. He’d lounge on his bed, Switch in hand, while you play on his computer.
- He’d get distracted, though, opting to just stare at you. How your hands work on his keyboard, how your brow creases in focus. You honestly forgot he was there, so yes, he’s going to observe you with little hearts in his eyes.
- They aren’t often, given his busy schedule, but sleepovers. You don’t plan on it; you keep saying you can pull an all-nighter.
- Ends up with you “resting” your eyes for a moment.
- And Grayson, being very smart, would sit close enough just in case your head fell onto his shoulder. When he knows you are absolutely knocked out, he’d press a soft, light kiss against your head, shifting carefully to get you more comfortable. It’s hard to continue playing when you’re not doing it, too.
- He’d take you to any nerd-related event.
- He isn’t sure why you keep bringing your wallet—he’ll pay. It’s all worth it to see your giddy smile.
- Though, he can’t complain if you get him the giant Lapras plush he’s been eyeing the entire time.
- No, he doesn’t think it’s your child. And he definitely doesn’t cuddle it at night. Nope.
- Super busy conventions means hand holding. It’s also an excuse to put his hand a smidge too low on your back.
- He looks confused when you point it out. Do you want to get lost?
- Expect a ton of pictures. Moreso of you. He’s just too lazy to ask someone to take one of both of you.
- He’ll stand in a long ass line for a signature from whomever you want. He’s only pissed off because VIP passes slipped his mind. Silly Grayson.
- If you happen to be a cosplayer, he’s in charge of fixing your clothing, taking pictures of you with fans. Hell, he’d even touch up your makeup, if you want.
- You didn’t ask. He’s good at his makeshift job, nonetheless.
- A touchy person holding you a little too personally? A glare. A touchy person still holding you a little too personally? He’s still going to take the photo, just after he moves their hand off of your waist.
- God forbid anyone harasses you.
Note: I lowkey want to do a NSFW version of this but idk 😭

In the Avengers compound, the living area was unusually quiet, save for the occasional sneeze or cough from you all bundled up on the couch, swathed in your favorite blanket. Your trusted stuffie sat beside you, offering silent comfort.
Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow herself, moved around the room, ensuring you had everything you needed. Your occasional whimpers caught Natasha's attention every time, making her heart ache.
"How are you feeling, sweetie?" Natasha asked softly, brushing your hair off your forehead. You sniffled, your eyes watery.
"Sick, Daddy," you murmured, your voice hoarse. You clutched a lollipop lozenge, the soothing taste providing a small comfort. Natasha smiled gently, adjusting your glasses for you.
"I know, sweetheart. Just rest, okay? I've got you." She tucked your blanket more securely around you.
The bond between you two was unique. In a world filled with heroes and battles, you two had found solace in your relationship. Today, as you battled your cold, Natasha's protective instincts were in full force, ensuring her little girl felt safe and cherished.
Natasha's fingers danced across the keyboard, rapidly typing up a report for Fury. Every few minutes, she'd glance over at you, ensuring you were okay. The juxtaposition was stark: the fierce warrior, known and feared by many, caring for the young, vulnerable girl who had a power greater than most could imagine.
A soft snore broke Natasha's concentration, and she looked over to see your chest rising and falling rhythmically. Smiling softly, Natasha reached over and gently brushed a strand of hair from your face, careful not to disturb you.
Taking a deep breath, Natasha continued her work, answering calls with a hushed voice, ensuring the noise didn't disturb your slumber. Every so often, she'd pause to jot down notes or sip on a cup of tea, the room filled with the sound of rain gently tapping against the windows.
Despite the pressing demands of her job, Natasha's priority was clear: ensuring you felt loved and protected, especially on days like this. The bond the two of you shared was unbreakable, built on trust, care, and a love that transcended the ordinary.
As the day carried on and Wanda came rushing in. "How is she Tasha?" Wanda asked in a panic, seeing the little one's sleeping form.
"She's got a cold. Trying to give her medicine was hell, but she enjoyed those lollipop lozenges you got. I wanted to make her soup, but I know she'd want yours more." Nat told her girlfriend. Wanda smiled, giving Nat a kiss.
"I'll get it started right away." Wanda got up going to the kitchen which was attached in an open layout with the living area.
Wanda's nurturing nature made her a perfect fit as "Mommy," complementing Natasha's protective instincts as "Daddy."
From the couch, you stirred slightly, your brows furrowing. Natasha was by your side in an instant, placing a gentle hand on your forehead. The medicine seemed to be doing its job; your temperature felt slightly lower.
A short while later, the aroma of homemade soup filled the air. Wanda emerged from the kitchen with a steaming bowl. "I made her favorite," she said, placing the bowl on the coffee table.
Together, they carefully woke you, who blinked up at them sleepily. "Mommy?" she murmured, her voice raspy.
Wanda smiled warmly, brushing your hair back. "Hey, sweetheart. I made some soup for you."
Your eyes lit up a bit, and you nodded weakly, allowing Wanda to help you sit up. As Wanda fed you the soup, Natasha couldn't help but feel a deep sense of gratitude. In the midst of chaos and battles, they had found a semblance of home and family, and she cherished every moment of it.
°○°○°○°○°
Natasha observed from a distance, her brows furrowing with concern as she watched you shiver from the cold sensation of the fever patch. The bond between you and Wanda was evident in moments like these—Wanda's gentle reassurances calming you despite the discomfort.
Once the patch was in place and you were comfortably nestled back under your blanket, Wanda sat beside you, softly singing a lullaby, an old Sokovian one. The room was filled with the warmth of their love and care, a stark contrast to the chilly patch on your forehead.
Natasha approached, placing a hand on Wanda's shoulder. "You're amazing with her," she whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to Wanda's temple.
Wanda smiled softly, her eyes never leaving yours. "She's our girl, Tasha. We'll always do whatever it takes to keep her safe and happy."
°○°○°○°○°
"In a little bit we should give her a bath." Wanda mentions taking the empty bowls to the kitchen, Nat following behind.
"You cooked dinner, let me take care of the dishes." Nat said, putting her hands on Wanda's hips, kissing her shoulder. "Go be with our little one. I'm sure she wants Mommy cuddles." Nat mentions Wanda turning, kissing Nat on the lips,
"Thank you Daddy." Wanda whispered going back to the couch and moving onto the couch, having you lay on top of her.
°○°○°○°○°
Once the kitchen was in order, Natasha joined her two loves on the couch. You, now clean and wrapped in a fluffy towel, snuggled comfortably against Wanda's chest. Wanda softly stroked your damp hair, humming a lullaby as the trio settled into the quiet comfort of their makeshift family.
Wanda got you dressed in comfy pajamas and helped get your dry. “How about we watch something little one?” Wanda asked softly, kissing the crown of your head.
“Please Mommy, can watch Bluey?” You ask as Wanda gets your paci, popping it in your mouth.
“Of course we can little one.” She smiled softly, pushing your hair out of your face, tucking it behind your ear.
°○°○°○°○°
The soft glow of the TV illuminated the room as you snored peacefully, still wrapped up in your favorite blanket. Wanda's emotional admission filled the air with a mix of vulnerability and love. Wanda smiled, tears pricking the sides of her eyes.
"What's wrong Wands?" Nat asks, noticing her girlfriend's mixed expressions.
"I always knew I wanted to be a mom. I just never thought it'd be like this, but," Wanda looked up at Nat, the tears spilling over, "I wouldn't trade being her Mommy for anything in the multiverse or having you by my side as her Daddy." Wanda reached a hand out, Nat lacing their fingers together and smiling,
Natasha's eyes softened, and she squeezed Wanda's hand reassuringly. "We may not have expected this journey, but it's our own unique adventure, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Y/N is lucky to have you as her Mommy, and I'm grateful every day to be her Daddy with you by my side."
Wanda nodded, wiping away a tear with her free hand. "She's our little miracle, isn't she?"
Natasha leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Wanda's forehead. "Absolutely, and our family is stronger for it.”
°○°○°○°○°
The three girls all ended up falling asleep with Bluey playing in the background. As morning came, Steve, Bucky, Tony, and Bruce made their way down to the kitchen for breakfast finding the three girls there all the Avengers knew of the girls special relationship and your needs at times. "They probably had a long night, Wanda was telling me as we came back from our mission about Y/N being sick." Steve mentioned.
Bruce, pouring himself a cup of coffee, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Nat mentioned it to me. It's good they have each other, especially on days like this."
Tony, flipping through a digital newspaper on his tablet, chimed in, "We've all seen how strong their bond is. It's heartwarming, really. Makes the compound feel a bit more like home."
Bucky, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed, glanced over at the sleeping trio. "They're a team within a team. It's nice to see they've found their place here."
Steve smiled, looking at the scene before him. "Let's give them some space. I'll whip up some breakfast for when they wake up. They'll need it.”
Steve decided to gently wake Nat first. Who stretched out, bones cracking and popping from the way she slept. "Hey I made breakfast for you three. How's Y/N?" He asked softly. Nat leaned over feeling your forehead.
"She's going to need more medicine." Nat stood up. Going to the cabinet, grabbing the grape flavored liquid medicine along with a sippy cup of apple juice. Moving back over to the other two as the boys watched their dance with practiced ease. "Baby girl, it's time to wake up." You stirred in Wanda's arms, which made Wanda wake up as well. Nat smiled, kissing Wanda. "Good morning love." Wanda smiled back,
"Mmm morning sweetie." You rubbed your eyes, coughing up a storm.
"Owwwww" you whined. "Daddy..." Nat moved back to the couch, scooping you up,
"Medicine first baby girl and then your apple juice to get the yucky taste out." You pouted, but took the medicine, making a gross face and took the apple juice and sucking it down.
"Easy baby." Wanda rubbed her back,
"Yes Mommy." You eased up on your juice.
Steve watched the exchange with a sense of admiration. Despite the challenges and the morning's routine, there was a tenderness to it that he found endearing.
"Need anything else for her?" Steve asked, referring to the medicine.
Natasha shook her head. "We're good for now, thanks, Steve. Just need to keep an eye on her fever."
Bucky approached with a gentle smile, ruffling your hair playfully. "Hey there, kiddo. You had us all worried."
You gave a weak smile, leaning into Natasha. "Hi, Uncle Bucky.”
Tony, holding a tray with breakfast plates, smirked. "I made sure there's plenty of bacon. Thought it might tempt a certain little one."
Wanda chuckled, "You know her too well, Tony."
As the group settled around the dining table, the room was filled with the comforting sounds of a family breakfast, laughter, and the unmistakable bond that held them all together.
°○°○°○°○°
Wanda held you close, you were nestled against her, comforted by the warmth and love of your Mommy. Natasha had gone off to shower first as the room was filled with the hum of conversation as the remaining Avengers continued their breakfast.
Steve, sipping his coffee, remarked, "We've got a briefing later today. Nothing major, just some updates on potential new threats."
Tony, scrolling through his tablet, nodded. "Yeah, I've been monitoring some unusual activity. Might be worth looking into after the briefing."
Bucky, leaning back in his chair, added, "Well, if it's anything like last time, it'll be a team effort."
Wanda listened intently, her focus shifting between the conversation and the little girl in her arms. "Just another day in the life, huh?”
Wanda and Nat switched spots so Wanda could take a shower, you whined as she was shifted around after having fallen asleep.
"Shhhh it's okay Detka, Daddy's got you." Nat ran her fingers through your hair, calming you back down and grabbed a paci, rubbing her knuckle gently over your lips first to make you open up and then stuck the paci in.
"There, there, sweetheart," Natasha cooed softly, her fingers tracing gentle patterns on your back. The pacifier worked its magic, and soon, your breathing evened out, your little chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm.
Steve, observing the tender scene, remarked softly, "You two have something truly special."
Natasha looked up, her eyes reflecting gratitude. "We do. It's a bond unlike any other."
Bucky nodded in agreement. "It's clear she feels safe and loved with you both. That's what family's all about."
As Wanda returned from her shower, refreshed and ready for the day, she smiled at the sight before her. "Thank you, dorogaya.”
Natasha nodded, carefully handing over your sleeping form. "Anytime, milyy. We've got each other's backs, always."
°○°○°○°○°
As the meeting began, Nat kept a hold of you who unfortunately for everyone had to be awake. You never enjoyed being forced out of little space for missions and debriefing. So a grumpy half little half adult was currently in Nat's arms as the secretary of state droned on and on and on.
Natasha tried her best to keep you calm, gently rocking you back and forth while the Secretary of State continued with the briefing. Your discontent was palpable, your little space clashing with the serious tone of the meeting.
Steve, sensing the tension, cleared his throat. "If we could just summarize the main points, please. We have a lot to cover."
Tony, ever the provocateur, leaned over, whispering loud enough for those nearby to hear, "Think Grumpy Bear needs a timeout?"
Bucky smirked, "Or maybe just a nap."
Wanda, sitting beside Natasha, reached over, gently stroking your hair. "It's okay, detka. We'll be done soon.”
After hours of them being force fed information it was finally over and you were the exact opposite of happy between having to pretend to be an adult and being sick made you fussy beyond belief as everything Nat and Wanda tried currently wasn't helping so when they got back to the common room, Nat set you down as you started throwing a tantrum that turned into a full blown meltdown. Wanda wanting to intervene, but Nat stopped her. "She needs to let it out.”
Natasha's experience with you over the years had given her insight into your needs, especially during moments of distress. As painful as it was to witness your meltdown, Natasha knew that suppressing it wouldn't help.
The common room fell silent as the Avengers watched, their concern evident. Steve approached cautiously, "Should we give them some space?"
Wanda nodded, her eyes filled with worry. "Yes, but it's hard to see her like this."
Bucky, leaning against the doorway, sighed, "She's been through a lot, even for someone her age."
Tony chimed in, "Is there anything we can do?"
Natasha shook her head, her focus solely on you. "Right now, she needs us—Wanda and me. We'll handle it.”
Slowly, as the minutes ticked by, your cries began to subside, replaced by soft whimpers. Natasha approached, offering a comforting embrace, her voice gentle. "It's okay, sweetheart. We're here."
Wanda joined them, her own voice soft and soothing. "We love you, detka. Always."
You clung to your Daddy, sniffling and hiccuping out a 'sorry for being so cranky.' Nat just soothed you, "no baby it's okay." Nat spoke up rubbing her back, "you're sick and forced out of your preferred heads pace at the moment so it's expected. We still love you.”
°○°○°○°○°
You started nodding off, Natasha smiling at the scene as she got up, picking up the littlest Avenger. "Come on baby girl." Natasha held you close, grabbing all of your things and bringing them down the hallway.
The two loves of her life walked through the door as she finished getting changed after her shower.
"What are you two doing up here?" Wanda asks.
"Shhhh...she's finally gone down for a nap." Natasha responds, setting you on the bed. Making a cocoon of blankets and pillows, putting your stuffie back into your arms. Wanda leans down and kisses your forehead.
"Oh she's getting warm again." Wanda goes to the bathroom grabbing a cooling patch to put on your forehead, making you shiver as it got put on, but you didn't wake up, only turning over. "Nat I love her so much. She's too precious for words." Wanda spoke softly as Natasha wrapped her arms around Wanda's waist, trailing kisses up the witches neck and jaw.
"You're such a good Mommy to her. You were meant for this." Natasha whispered.
"And you are the Perfect Daddy for her." Wanda responds, turning to cup Natasha's face, kissing the older woman's lips.
"Let's go watch something that isn't Bluey while she naps." Wanda says turning on the little baby monitor so they could watch over and listen while they headed back to the common area to watch something together finally having some time for just them.
As they made their way back to the common area, Natasha intertwined her fingers with Wanda's, the warmth of their bond filling the space between them. The weight of the day seemed to lift as they settled onto the couch, the soft glow of the TV providing a welcome distraction.
Wanda snuggled into Natasha's side, her head resting against her shoulder. "I'm so grateful for moments like these," she murmured, her voice filled with love and contentment.
Natasha pressed a kiss to Wanda's forehead, her heart swelling with affection. "Me too, my love. It's moments like these that remind us of what's truly important.”
Natasha and Wanda were actually able to make it through a movie before they heard you stir. Wanda gave Natasha a kiss before getting up. "I'll get her." As Wanda was heading out she heard the whimper from you,
"Mama...?" Wanda smiled, picking up her pace just a bit. Opening the door to their shared room, you sat up, rubbing her eyes and looking a bit like a disheveled mess as she sniffled and coughed. "Mommy!" Her calling out started a coughing fit that made Wanda grab the little trash can near the bed.
"It's okay baby, cough up the yuckies." Wanda rubbed your back as you coughed up the phlegm and mucus. "That's it baby get it all out. It's okay, sweetheart. Mommy's here," Wanda whispered soothingly, gently wiping away the tears that had welled up in your eyes.
You sniffled, clinging to Wanda tightly. "I don't feel good, Mommy," you whimpered.
Wanda pressed a kiss to your forehead, her heart breaking at her daughter's distress. "I know, baby. But Mommy and Daddy are right here with you, okay? We'll take care of you."
Natasha appeared in the doorway, concern etched on her features. "Is she okay?"
Wanda nodded, giving Natasha a reassuring smile. "Just a little coughing fit. She's doing better now.”
°○°○°○°○°
Your two girlfriend's took care of you the rest of the night and by morning you woke up feeling much better as you rubbed your eyes. As the other two stirred beside you, you smiled down at them.
“Thank you for taking care of me, my loves.” The two redheads smiled up at you,
“Always dorogaya.” Wanda's voice full of sleep as Nat sat up and kissed your cheek. You felt so much gratitude towards your girlfriend's for always taking care of you when needed.

Hey what if the way Oli contacts Pearl on Hermitcraft to play Pearldle is by praying to the Santa Pearla statue in Empires?
I like this so much I wrote it.
Oli walks through the slightly run down streets of Sanctuary. The server is largely abandoned, its members have moved on to other lives in other worlds. He has too, for the most part. But it’s been left open for them all to visit, and so he does. He has a keyboard in a case secured to his back, hands tapping a rhythm on the strap across his chest. He comes upon his target, the Church of Santa Perla.
It’s only been a couple of months since Sausage was here (like Oli, he visits often), not long enough for anything more than weeds popping up along paths. Most of Sanctuary reads as neglected, not abandoned. The exception is the Church. Twisting ivy engulfs the walls, sprouting small white and purple flowers. It is not because Sausage doesn’t take care of it, but rather because the plants refuse to do anything but thrive in the Saint’s presence. They know how much she loves her greenery.
As he enters through moss covered doors, Oli blinks in the light produced by the glow berry vines that swing from the ceiling. This whole place is so much brighter inside than out. What isn’t shining from the berries comes from the central figure on the dais. A statue of the Saint herself, covered in as much plant life as anything else. It’s different however, not vines or weeds or ivy, but sunflowers. Somehow they sprout from the stone visage of her dress, flowing impossibly like fabric and glowing with holy light. The only part that is not covered is her face, carved in a serene expression. She is content among the life that thrives in her holiness.
Oli takes a deep breath and kneels at the statue’s feet, nose filling with the grassy scent of sunflowers and the sweetness of the glow berries. He looks up into her face and speaks his request.
“Santa Perla, goddess of the harvest, mother of sunflowers… do you want to play Pearldle?”
The statue shifts and blinks, hands that had been clutching the stone stems of a bundle of wheat move to rest on her hips.
“You have my number Oli! You can just call me! Being prayed to feels weird!” The statue groans, exasperated.
“Would it help if I sang the jingle?” He offers, moving to sit on one of the leafy pews and taking his keyboard out of its case. The statue of Pearl blinks, considering.
“Yes. And tell me your first word.”

˖˙ ᰋ ── pairing: Paige x Azzi
˖˙ ᰋ ── rosie’s note: hi hii, this is somewhat an apology fic. i wanna drop some fics all december but idkkk. i love pazzi as moms and i love little evie, and that airport pic made me smile! happy reading lovelies 💌
˖˙ ᰋ ── themes: fluff, teasing
enjoy!!!
Tumblr media
The first pang of frustration hit Paige as the flight attendant’s voice echoed over the intercom. “Ladies and gentlemen, due to weather conditions, Flight 386 to Minneapolis is delayed indefinitely. Please stay tuned for further updates.”
Paige groaned, rubbing her hand down her face as she leaned back in the stiff airport chair. She’d been stuck in the terminal for hours, itching to get home for Christmas. This wasn’t just any Christmas; it was her first chance in weeks to see Azzi and Evie. Azzi had been holding down the fort with their daughter while Paige played overseas, and though video calls and texts helped, it wasn’t the same.
Her phone buzzed on her lap.
flight still delayed?
Paige let out a sigh, her thumb hovering over the keyboard. What could she say? She wasn’t even sure she’d make it home tonight.
yeah, they’re saying the storms getting worse
might not be able to fly out til tmr :(
i’m sorry baby, it’s okay we’ll make it work just get here when you can
i’ll figure it out dw, give eve a kiss for me
She ran a hand down her face, feeling the weight of disappointment settle in her chest. Azzi had told her to take her time, but the thought of missing Christmas Eve with her wife and daughter made her stomach churn. Evie had been counting down the days until she was home, and Paige had promised her she’d be there.
“Not happening,” Paige muttered to herself, standing abruptly and grabbing her duffel bag.
She approached the airline counter, waiting impatiently behind a handful of equally frustrated travelers. When it was finally her turn, the agent didn’t even look up as they spoke.
“Sorry, ma’am, all flights are grounded for the night.”
Paige gritted her teeth, leaning against the counter. “There’s gotta be something you can do. Another flight, a private plane, a damn sled—I don’t care. I just need to get home tonight.”
The agent glanced up, unimpressed. “There’s nothing I can do. The FAA has grounded all flights in this weather. I understand your frustration, but—”
“Yeah, yeah, I get it,” Paige interrupted, stepping back and glancing down the line of counters. Her eyes landed on another agent at the far end—a younger one who looked far less jaded by the onslaught of holiday travelers.
Paige approached them with a calm smile, adjusting her duffel bag on her shoulder. “Hey, uh, I’m hoping you can help me out. My flight got delayed, and I really need to get home tonight. My family’s waiting for me.”
The agent blinked up at her, their eyes widening slightly. “Wait… are you Paige Bueckers?”
Paige grinned, leaning on the counter. “Guilty.”
The agent flushed, glancing around nervously. “Wow, uh, okay. Well, all the commercial flights are grounded…”
“But?” Paige prompted, her grin widening.
“But there’s a cargo plane heading out in a couple of hours. It’s not exactly meant for passengers, but…”
“I’ll take it,” Paige said immediately.
The agent hesitated. “Are you sure? It’s not gonna be comfortable—”
“I don’t care,” Paige cut them off. “As long as it gets me home.”
—————
The cargo plane was every bit as uncomfortable as the agent had warned. Paige sat bundled in her coat, her duffel bag tucked under her feet, as the freezing air seeped through the metal walls. It didn’t matter, though. Every bump and jolt of the flight was a reminder that she was getting closer to Azzi and Evie.
When they finally touched down, Paige didn’t even wait for the engines to stop before grabbing her bag and sprinting off the plane. She flagged down a cab, her heart racing with anticipation as they drove through the snowy streets.
By the time Paige’s cab pulled up outside the house, it was nearly midnight. Snow clung to her jacket and hair as she stepped out, her duffel bag slung over one shoulder and her backpack on the other. The driveway was packed with cars, no doubt belonging to Azzi’s parents, her brothers Jose and Jon, and Paige’s little brother Drew.
She grinned, imagining the chaos waiting inside. This was family, the kind of loud, vibrant love she and Azzi thrived in.
—————
Inside the cozy home, the scene was the picture of holiday warmth. The smell of freshly baked cookies wafted from the kitchen, where Azzi’s mom was icing a batch of gingerbread men. Her dad was leaning against the counter, chatting with Drew and keeping a watchful eye on the boys—Jon and Jose—who were loudly arguing over a basketball game.
In the living room, Azzi was curled up on the couch with Evie tucked under her arm. The little girl’s head rested on her mom’s chest, her wide eyes glued to the Christmas movie playing on the TV.
Evie suddenly looked up, her pouty expression catching Azzi’s attention. “When’s Mommy coming home?” she whined.
Azzi sighed softly, brushing her fingers through Evie’s curls. “She’s trying, baby. The snow’s making it hard for her plane to fly.”
“But I want her here now,” Evie huffed, crossing her little arms over her chest.
Before Azzi could respond, the front door burst open with a gust of cold air. Everyone turned toward the entrance, startled. Paige stood there, her hair and jacket covered in snow, a duffel bag slung over one shoulder and her backpack in hand. “Hi Family!” Paige grinned.
“Mommy!” Evie squealed, scrambling off the couch and sprinting across the room. She threw herself into Paige’s arms, nearly knocking her off balance.
“Hey, munchkin,” Paige said, her grin wide as she hugged Evie tightly. “I missed you.”
“You’re home!” Evie cheered, clinging to her neck.
Azzi stared from the couch, her jaw dropping slightly. “Paige?”
Paige’s blue eyes found hers, her smile softening. “Where my hug at?” she teased.
Azzi rolled her eyes, finally getting up and crossing the room. She wrapped her arms around Paige’s neck, standing on her toes to kiss her softly. “I thought your flight got delayed,” she murmured against her lips.
“It was,” Paige said, her hands settling on Azzi’s waist. “But I pulled some string y’know.”
“You pulled some strings?”, Azzi echoed, but her lips were already curving into a smile.
Paige smirked, squeezing her waist. “What can I say? I had to get home to my girls.”
“Paigey!” Drew’s voice cut through the moment, followed by the sound of footsteps thundering down the stairs. Jose and Jon were right behind him, and before Paige knew it, she was being pulled into a round of hugs and handshakes.
“Man, you’ve been gone forever,” Jose said, clapping her on the back.
“You bring us anything?” Jon added with a grin.
Drew smirked, holding his hand out. “I know you got that NIL money, P. What’s up?”
Paige laughed, shaking her head as she pointed toward Azzi. “Y’all act like Az ain’t got brand deals, too. She’s the one you should be harassing.”
Azzi crossed her arms, giving them a mock glare. “Don’t even think about it. I already bought you all a crap load of gifts,” she warned, though her smile betrayed her amusement.
—————
Hours later, after the house had finally quieted and everyone was asleep, Paige and Azzi lay tangled together in Azzi’s childhood bed. The moonlight painted soft shadows across the room, and Paige couldn’t stop herself from running her hands up and down Azzi’s sides, savoring the warmth of her skin beneath her sweatshirt.
Azzi sighed contentedly, her head resting on Paige’s chest. “You’ve gotta be exhausted,” she murmured, tracing absent patterns on Paige’s stomach with her fingers.
“I am,” Paige admitted, her voice low, “but I missed you too much to care.” She tilted her head down, brushing her lips against Azzi’s temple. “Layin’ here with you? This is all I wanted for Christmas.”
Azzi’s lips twitched into a soft smile. “Very smooth, Bueckers,” she teased, but there was no missing the way her body melted further into Paige’s.
Paige tightened her hold on her waist, her fingers dipping just under the hem of Azzi’s sweatshirt. “Smooth? Nah, I’m just honest.”
Azzi laughed quietly, a blush creeping up her neck. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you love it,” Paige countered, her voice taking on a playful lilt.
Azzi tilted her head up to meet Paige’s eyes, her gaze softer now. “I do,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Paige smiled, brushing her nose against Azzi’s before capturing her lips in a slow, lingering kiss. The kiss deepened quickly, Azzi’s hand sliding up to cup Paige’s cheek while Paige’s fingers splayed against her hip, pulling her closer.
Azzi broke the kiss with a gasp, her forehead resting against Paige’s as she tried to catch her breath. “Everyone’s right downstairs,” she reminded her, though her tone lacked conviction.
“So?” Paige murmured, nipping lightly at her bottom lip. “They’re asleep. You really think anyone’s gonna hear us?”
Azzi tried to keep her composure, but Paige’s hand had slipped under her sweatshirt completely, her palm pressing against bare skin. “You’re terrible,” Azzi whispered, her voice unsteady.
“Terribly in love with you,” Paige shot back, earning an eye roll that turned into a quiet laugh.
Before either of them could take things further, a faint, sleepy voice called out from the hallway. “Mommy? Mama?”
Azzi groaned, flopping onto her back as Paige chuckled under her breath. “You jinxed it,” Azzi muttered.
“Better me than her walking in on us,” Paige teased, sliding out of bed and grabbing her sweatshirt from the floor.
She opened the door to find Evie standing there in her fuzzy Christmas pajamas, clutching her favorite stuffed animal. Her hair was tousled, and her eyes were half-closed.
“What’s wrong, munchkin?” Paige asked gently, crouching down to her level.
“I had a bad dream,” Evie mumbled, rubbing her eyes.
“Come here,” Paige said, scooping her up effortlessly. She carried her back to the bed, where Azzi was already holding the blankets open for her.
Evie settled between them, her tiny body curling against Paige’s side as Azzi tucked the covers around her.
“Can I stay here?” Evie asked, her voice small.
“Of course, baby,” Azzi said, kissing the top of her head.
Paige pressed a kiss to her cheek as well, her heart swelling as Evie yawned and nuzzled closer. She glanced over at Azzi, who gave her a knowing smile.
“Merry Christmas, mama,” Paige whispered, her hand reaching over to lace fingers with Azzi’s.
Azzi smiled, her thumb brushing against Paige’s knuckles. “Merry Christmas, Mommy.”
They lay there in peaceful silence, their daughter’s soft breaths filling the room. Paige thought about all the miles she’d traveled, the delays, the chaos—and how every moment of it was worth it to be right here, wrapped up in the love of her family.
